I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Dear all, I am going to buy a HP Z240 tower workstation. Do anyone know that the decibel of this computer? Is it louder? Do you know which HP workstation works quietly? Many thanks! I am trying to install Windows 7 on a HP Z240 SFF workstation but when I boot from the Windows 7 USB media, it does not show the HDD even though it is connected. it would be great if someone could help me out with this issue. Thanks in advance.
Hello matt_william, If you are using a retail version of Windows 7 Operating System. You may have to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver while installing the OS. On the HDD partition windows, you will get LOAD DRIVER option, you have to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. Please find below link to download Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=8323799&swItemId=wk_156996_1&swEnvOid=405... NOTE: THIS ACTIVITY NEED TO BE PERFORMED ON ANOTHER UNIT. TO USE THE INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY DRIVER DURING A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLATION: 1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved). 2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. 3. Navigate to C:\SWSETUP\SP73487 and unzip "f6flpy-x64.zip" to a USB key for a 64-bit installation. 4. Use the newly created driver installation media during operating system setup to install the drivers. Once you copy the driver on another USB media, connect it with unit on which you are trying to install OS. Click on Load Driver and navigate to USB and install the driver. Once the installation is complete, You will be able to access HDD and will be able to install OS. I hope that answers your question. I just got a HP Z240 Tower with a 400W power supply, 32 GB of RAM and 512 GB M.2 SSD. Is the GeForce GTX 970 Graphics card compatible? My PCIe v3 x16 slot is available.
Greetings, The 400 power supply could be an issue. A stock GTX 970 lists a recommended 500 watt power supply. You have to verify the 10.1 inch to 10.5 inch card will fit in your chassis. You should have the required UEFI BIOS if the system is brand new and you have a PCIe x16 3.0 slot available on the system board. Hi all, I got a Z240 SFF workstation with a 512G HP Z Turbo Drive G2 intalled on M.2 slot as a boot drive. I recently add a 1.2T Intel 750 PCIe SSD on PCIe slot 4 for additional storage. However after the Intel 750 SSD was intalled, the computer began to shutdown automaticly after couple of minutes running. The issue will be fixed after remove the Intel 750 SSD. The system is running 64bit Win10, with Samsung NVMe Driver. The Intel 750 SSD can also be read and write when installed and Intel Data Center Tool shows that the SSD is healthy. I think the auto shutdown issue is related to overheating on 750 SSD. I am wondering if the motherboard of Z240 SFF is compatible with Intel 750 SSD. Does anyone have Intel 750 PCIe SSD installed on their Z240 SFF or any other Z Workstation? Thanks! Does anyone know an adapter with two display ports that fits into this Dell Precision T7610 CTO Base, that also have a very good quality?
Here is the spec for the T7610 from the Dell manual, it doesn't relate to the "CTO Base".
Discrete (PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16)
up to 4 full-height, full length (maximum of 600 W)
This suggests you can use many different video cards. . You say "display ports". What are you referring to? "DVI", "VGA" or the actual newer Display port interface?
Dell also has a support forum, staffed by mostly users like this forum. That is another alternative for specific Dell hardware help.
My 3620's current PSU is 290W. I have a hard time finding any other power supply to upgrade. Can somebody provide a list of PSUs compatible with 3620?
There is a 365W power supply for this model - note though that these are not standard power supplies, so aftermarket units won't work.
I have a self built Tower pc with windows 7 pro on it and i wanted to use and learn more about windows 10 but i do not want to upgrade my Windows 7 box to windows 10. I have another box that i can use for windows 10 but my question is how or where would i get the copy of windows 10 and install it? since i do own a copy of windows 7 pro.
Make an image of your Win7 system and then upgrade. With the image you can always roll back.http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/394411-install-windows-10-another-pc-tower.html
My hard drive crashed and I had to replace with a new one. I upgraded to Windows 10 and utilized HP website for the drivers. The problem is that some of my USB ports will not work and I'm getting 3 "Base system devices" 1 "PCI serial Port" and 2 "Unknown Devices" that will not install in my device manager. I tried all of the drivers on the web site and I cannot find the original discs that came with the machine. The rear USB devices and the hidden wireless keyboard/Mouse port are not working.
Hi: The PCI Serial Port needs this driver...You may have to manually intall this driver if the auto install didn't work for you before, by browsing to the driver folder from the PCI Serial Port>update driver>browse my computer for driver software>browse to C:\SWSetup\sp74499. This package contains the Intel Management Engine Software version 11.0 for the supported Workstation models and operating systems. This package installs the latest Management Engine Interface (MEI) and Serial-Over-LAN (SOL) drivers, as well as Intel Management and Security Status (IMSS), to support Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) versions 8.x and 9.x. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74001-74500/sp74499.exe The Base system device needs this driver... This package contains the JMicron Smart Card Reader Driver. This driver enables the integrated media card slot on supported models running a supported operating system. Initial Release. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp65001-65500/sp65111.exe For the unknown devices, please post the hardware ID's for those. To find the hardware ID, click on the unknown device. Then click on the details tab at the top of the unknown device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 3rd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window. W10 is supposed to contain the USB3 drivers needed, and I have no idea what you have to do to fix that. There are no drivers you can install from anywhere. can i install any version ?
can i install linux or windows 7 using vmware on windows 10 ?
Thank you in advance
VMware workstation is at version 12.1 and can be installed Windows 10,8,or 7 64 bit only, They stopped making 32 bit versions of VMware Workstation at 10.1 and that can be installed on Windows 10,8,or 7 32 bit computers.
Yes you can run almost any version of Windows on it and also most versions of Linux, I think it is even possible to run Android 86 but I'm not sure I haven't tried Android yet
Dear HP experts,Thank you for your time I need an advice to istall windows 7 Ultimate x64 on HP z420 workstation . I have tried alot but an error of ((No device driver were found)) is always shown.Just like the attached picture.Things i have do- changing sata mode from RAID+AHCI to IDE ......which is my only options-changing IDE sata mode from compatable to enhance- disabling EFI boot Sources-disabling legacy boot sources.all these steps lead me to one way, which is no device driver were found. in my best move the installing continue but without a hard drive shown to format or delete. Any AdviceThanks
If you have more than 1 disk in your system, and you have RAID+AHCI set, then you likely need to jump into the raid controller BIOS at boot time (by pressing "CTRL C" if i recall correctly) and define a virtual disk or VD (which can wipe existing data so be warned). Then when windows install loads, you will see the virtual disk that you have create earlier and can thus select this VD for the install to continue. This assumes the install media has the (chipset) raid drivers which i think is the case. If the install disk does not have the required (chipset) raid drivers, then you may need to place them on a usb drive and point the install to it using F8, at which point you will see your VD and can continue with the install. If it all sounds like too much, you can remove all but one HDD and then RAID function will not be relevant as it will fall back to simple AHCI. If you still don't see the lone HDD, try and add the chipset drivers using the F8 method. I had similar issues a while ago on my Z210 and solved it by using default BIOS firmware settings, then created a VD and lastly placed Intels RST driver, specifically the F8 driver on a USB and during the Windows install process pressed F* and pointed to the USB drive where the driver was seen and loaded at which time my VD was visable so all could continue.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z420-Workstation-troubleshooting-in-Install-Windows/td-p/5580870

MOTHERBOARD - Intel Workstation board S5520 SC
GRAPHICS CARD - Palit Nvidia GeForce GTX 275 (986 MB) Dual DVI out

Hello. I am currently working on getting a fresh installation of Windows 7 on our HP Z240's in order to create our standard business image. I was able to install Windows 7 Enterprise but am having one issue. Whenever the workstation goes into sleep mode it will do a hard shutdown. I've installed the latest drivers found here for the chipset, graphics, NIC and sound. The issue still occurs. I've done the same on three different workstations and have experienced the same issue between all three. The OEM Windows 7 installation has no issues on the same exact workstation. Can anyone assist me with this? Thank you!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z240-with-Windows-7-Hard-shutdown-before-sleep-mode/td-p/5673196
When running an SCCM 2012 R2 task sequence to install Windows 10 on a Z240, the network driver is working in Windows PE during the download and apply Windows image. I'm using Auto Apply Drivers step and after it's completed, the computer restarts into the Windows 10 OS, tries to set up the devices and then the task sequence fails because there is no network driver detected that it can use. I've tried to import multiple types of network drivers from both HP and Intel with no success. I've tried to specifically apply the Z240 driver package instead of using Auto Apply Drivers with no success. I've also tried to install a Windows 8.1 image instead and it still fails at the same point. I'm confused because it works fine in PE, but not after restarting and booting into the Windows OS. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Missing-Z240-Network-Driver-after-booting-to-Windows-in-SCCM/td-p/5600498
Gday fellas My Tower Install New Clean partner has just bought himself a new tower I put a fresh install of Vista onto it We both prefer firefox over IE so I installed the latest version Now for the fun and games we both use Internet Banking he can successfully log into his online bank but every time he tries to view his transactions in any of accounts it's a no go So I uninstalled FF put the version I have on by this time he was in bed he has to work I tried logging into New Tower Clean Install the same Internet Banking site using my login details I could do everything and anything in there Problem solved or so I thought Tonight he tried logging in to his online bank made it through all the login criteria got to his accounts and the same thing he cannot see his transactions When he logs out of the Internet Banking he gets quot http verb used to access this page quot So I tried creating a new profile for him all it created were security certificate warnings Because he is currently playing on his new tower I cannot fiddle so I need to wait until he is off his PC However this does not solve the dilemma of why I can login to the online banking access my transactions using FF and he cannot Up until hopefully I can find out with your help why he cannot use his online banking with FF I have told him to use IE When I uninstalled V of FF I used Revo Uninstaller Pro which deleted all registry entries etc so that when I installed V I knew I wouldn't be compounding the problem Any ideas
I would have to think it was a setting in his bank account settings that is different to your settings. You use his computer to log into your bank.Same bank, same browser, sounds like an account settings thing to me.http://www.vistax64.com/browsers-mail/297871-new-tower-clean-install.html
i am attempting to install nt 4.0 on a 350 mhz, 128 ram, pentium 2 system. it has been entirely formatted under fat 32. when i get to the third floppy disk, the following STOP error occurs:
Stop: c000026c unable to load device driver \device\floppy 0\ ntfs.sys device driver could not be loaded
error status has 0xc 0000221
restart and set the recovery options in the system control panel or the /CRASHDEBUG system start option
when the above blue screen appears, the system freezes and i have to reset ( control-alternate-delete ) does not cooperate
kindly advise.........thanks with a star
p.s. maybe it has to do with partitioning with NTFS instead of FAT32
NT4 doesn't support FAT32 at all.
You will need to repartition if you have created a large FAT32 partition. Create the partitions from within the NT4 install and it will allow you to create the largest system partition it can support, which is about 8 Gb for NTFS, and 4 GB for FAT. You can then partition the rest of your HD as a data partition.
Hi all I decided to help out XP- tower pre-loaded internal another install with you into an HD, ?? Can an older friend upgrade their computer I had an old tower lying around minus a Hard Drive and I figured that I could remove my friends Hard Drive from his PC and pop it into my Tower and away he d go Well it didn t work The PC seemed to boot fine and showed the initial text but when it came to the Windows XP loading-part of the boot process the monitor flashed white for a millisecond then Can you install an internal HD, pre-loaded with XP- into another tower ?? went blank and the power light turned to amber then off altogether I disabled my ATI Graphics card then tried again with no luck so I looked in BIOS but couldn t get it to detect the drive which is a Seagate Barracuda GB drive I did however notice that the HD was listed as Secondary Slave I was able to move it up to Primary Slave by moving the jumper but couldn t set it as Master I even tried with the jumper removed In fact I don t recall whether or not there was a Secondary Master there is a DVD CD Combo drive installed so maybe that was set as Secondary Master I m afraid I can t remember I then tried connecting the HD to the same cable as the DVD CD drive with no luck The HD is an IDE and my original HD was also a Seagate IDE drive Also FWIW the last time I used my Tower with an IDE HD installed only months ago it all worked perfectly After a few hours I called it a day So when I returned home I realised that the DVD CD drive was probably throwing a spanner in the works and I should have unplugged it to see if that would get a result Finally it dawned on me that my friends internal HD would have all the drivers pertaining to his particular set up Mobo etc but not the drivers for my mobo and maybe that s why Windows didn t boot up I m left wondering if it s even possible to do what I m trying to achieve or would my friends IDE Hard Disc need to be wiped before installing it into my Tower I have the ABIT VIA- M driver disc that came with my mobo but don t really know where to go from here other than to try to install the drivers for my Mobo onto my friends HD before I remove it from his PC and install it in the one I want to give to him is this the right step nbsp
90% of the time it won't work - if the new computer is nearly identical to the old one then it will work although you might have to run the repair function with your installation CD to rework different drivers. I have done it before with success but most of the time reinstalling is the better option.

Have rebooted and attempted serveral times with the same result. Any suggestions?

After installing Widows 10 my workstation does not work... I would like to reinstall Windows 7... I don't know what keys to click to start the clean install process... HP does not have phone support, nor can I get into chat... I am desperate as I don't like using my laptop... TY, Lynne
Lynne_29 To reinstall Win7 on your workstation, you need genuine HP OEM Recovery Media, not a USB or DVD that was made from an ISO download, or purchased from Microsoft. Saying that because the HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, and the DVD set is bootable. To use that, all you do is insert the first DVD into the optical drive, close the door, and boot the PC. If you are using different media, we can not help with that.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Clean-install-on-my-HP-Z400-workstation/td-p/5714017

hi, I am going to upgrade my graphic card to ATI 5770 so I need a new power supply which has power about 550--600 watt. But the most frustrating problem is that I failed to find a proper power supply with the correct dimension.
I have an HP pavilion e9300 which uses a very wired power supply tower-150mm(W) 86(H) 140(D). But so far all the PSUs I found is the standard size --150mm(W) 86(H) 150(D) which cannot fit in my setup.
So could any PC God give me some suggestion, please??
Is any PSU with the size of my tower or can I just simply install a bigger PSU which can still successfully power up the comptuer?
Thx in adance.
If the power supply will physically fit your case, it should work fine with your computer. Will the extra 10mm interfere internally with anything inside the PC?
I need to retrieve some old info from my old tower. Is it possible to hook the old tower to the new one and use it as a big memory bank? And if so, how do I do it?

I am a user of Winnt 4.0 Workstation & Win 2K Professional,
Whenever I am installing any application get a message
YOU DO NOT HAVE ADMINISTRATIVE PREVILEGES ON THIS COMPUTER PLEASE HAVE ADMINISTRATOR TO INSTALL THIS PROGRAM
How can I give a previleges to Other users to Load / Remove any Applications
There are a several ways. The easiest is to place each user in the administrators group. This could cause problems later when they accidentally make system changes that crash the PC. You could install using the SU (switch user) utility from the resource kit. This allows you to provide the administrator account and password for the installation without putting the user in the admin group (this requires you to be present or to provide the account and password to the user). Since I don't package many applications anymore, there are several members here that can better give you step-by-step instructions to do this.
I have Vista Ultimate (IIS Enabled), SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition

installs no problem. When I install SQL Server 2005, I get an error

I have tried FULLY, MANUALLY removing all SQL products and registry
entries. I have used Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I have tried
Microsoft's recommended way of manually removing SQL Server 2005.
If I manually run SqlRun_Tools.msi the error comes up right away.
The error is:

Hi Team, We are trying to install win7 on Z240 but due to some issue the SSD does not gets detected we have also tried installing Win7 via CD/USB but still no luck can someone help me regarding this issue.
If secure boot is enabled in BIOS, try disabling it and enable legacy boot. Also in case you are using NVME SSD, then you may need to inject the corresponding driverhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/Z240/td-p/5529208

Have a new Z240 Workstation with a Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2 nVMe SSD.Windows 10 will install to the SSD from USB no problem but the machine fails to find the OS post install. The Samsung 950 Pro SSD does not show up in the UEFI section of the BIOS, but it does show up under Legacy devices.Secure Boot is not enabled. If I add a SATA HDD, Windows Boot Manager gets installed on the SATA device and the machine will then boot Windows 10 from SSD. Hello, I am working on installing windows 7 enterprise 64, on a z240 SFF. I am missing the USB drivers for it. I have the driver disk that came with it and I have installed every driver that is on there, along with going to HP support software and drivers web link and downloading everyone from there. There has not been one driver that has solved this problem, so I was looking for some sort of help on finidning one.l I tried a few other drivers for different model of towers but no luck. please help
Hi: Please post the hardware ID for the USB controller that needs the driver. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/z240-sff-USB-driver-missing/td-p/5746056

When you run HP service packs, they will expand and place their contents under an own directory within C:\swsetup.Specifically in your case, if you run sp74202.exe, you should see a new directory C:\swsetup\SP74202 has been created with the contents of the service pack within. Alternatively you can use 7-zip to peek inside the service pack exe without running it since the exe is a self extracting zip file that runs the installer once decompressed In any case, a newer ME update exists here but i'd first apply the latest system firmware update available here. When looking at the HP service pack links above, it's good practice to selectively click each "Description", "Enhancements", "Installation Instructions" "Release Notes" "Fixes" and "Revision History" tabs and read the information (some of it is repetative but you'll soon learn where to focus your attension). The contents of these tabs contain important and relevant information on what has been improved, fixed, which system it's for, how to install the update, etc. And if a previously installed SP is not listed in the "revision history" tab, that release may have been pulled by HP due to some fauly behaviour or other issue! Pay particular attension to the prerequisits as in some instances firmware updates have to be stepped (that is you can't always simply apply the latest). And if you read such boaring stuff, the system firmware (BIOS) Installation Instructions tab would have given you a clue where the sp files are expanded to Have you tried simply enter the command (as specified) via a command prompt window but changing directories to where the FWUpdLcl.exe file is located? Just keep in mind that sp74202 is the initial ME firmware release so nothing sould update So best to apply the latest system firmware (BIOS), then the ME firmware, then maybe the latest ME software (under chipset drivers). Best to bookmark this page which lists all the downloads for your z240 Windows 10 64bit tower system so check it out periodically.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Updating-Firmware-for-Z240/td-p/5575077
Hi, I'm wanting to install 2 x 3.5" HDDs in my new Z240 SFF Workstation. There is a bay that already came with an insert and one of the new drives slots into that just fine. However it looks like some sort of insert/caddy is needed for the "External/internal shared 3.5" bay", as it is too big for the drive itselt to slot in. It looks like this bay is sized for some sort of optical disk. I've called HP and their spare parts people here in Australia, but no one can find the part needed. I am trying to setup my new HP Z240 workstation, but cannot get the graphics card to operate at any resolution above 1024 X 768. The graphics card is an NVIDIA QUADRO K620. It is connected to the monitor with a DVI-D Dual link cable. The monitor is an HP w2408. The monitor has two inputs (DVI and VGA). I have the VGA input connected to another HP computer with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 card (this computer/card/monitor displays at 1920 x1200). When I checked the adapter modes (using the list modes option), the best mode listed is 1024 x 768. The NVIDIA spec sheet lists the max resolution with DVI-I as 2560 x 1600 or 1920 x 1200. What can I do to get the max resolution from my monitor (1920 x 1200)?
Update. Problem solved. When I realized that the monitor in DVI mode was not being recognized as PNP, it pointed to the monitor as the problem. Installed new monitor, everythng works as it should. Evidently the VGA input to the old monitor functioned properly while the DVI portion was defective (card or cable connection). I have an alienware x51 tower running windows 7 thats a couple of years old. I had the HDD replaced a month ago and today I had a BSOD which luckily recovered after the tower restarted.
Here is the BSOD dump:
Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033
Additional information about the problem:
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Any hints as to what specifically this dump is referring too would be very helpful.
Thank you for your time!
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply
Hello, My company recently purchased some Z240 SFF workstations and put in aftermarket multi-media card readers in the 3.5" slot. The card reader uses the internal USB 3.0 header, so I had to unplug the USB 3.0 cable for the for the front usb ports in order to get it to work. The media card reader works just fine in Windows, however, I get a POST error message on startup: "Cable detection Error 41A- Front USB2 Not Connected. Front USB cable has been detached or unseatted from the motherboard. Press Enter to continue." Is there anyway to disable POST messages? I can't seem to find anything in the UEFI/BIOS to do this.
One of the HP engineers who has been very helpful to us here has recently posted on a related question, and he has access to the schematics and the internal design details of these workstations. His post is on this thread, HERE : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z420-USB3-0-Head... Dan tells how to jumper the header to make it believe the cable is still connected, and it would not matter whether you jumpered at the motherboard end or the far plug end, as long as you got the correct pins/plug holes jumpered. Note his caution.... that seems to suggest that the pins on the motherboard are not as stout as the ones we are used to seeing. A proper sized insulated wire jumper with a short segment of wire exposed at each end can be used as a jumper at the far plug end of a cable, rather than the little plastic jumpers we use at the motherboard pin end of thins. If you carefully figure out the wire colors this should work. The wiring of such headers/cables within a HP workstation family are usually the same, and things can stay the same from one generation to another, in my experience.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-POST-Message-disable/td-p/5761989

HiI have bought a z240 tower which runs really well with win 7 pro. Recently, I wanted to add an SATA extension card, but without any success. I am looking for a simple SATA controller without RAID functionality (which unnecessary slows down the boot procedure). Unfortunately, HP does not offer any SATA boards as accessories - Is there any recommendation for such a card from your side? I've bought a LogiLink PC0059A card, unfortunately, the system does no longer startup when connecting drives to it. The hp BIOS screen appears as usual, then the card shows the attached drives, after that the hp bios screen appears again and reamains without any reaction (reboot required). I'm thinking about buying this to run on my second harddrive. First, Is this a good windows version? Is it comparable to 2000? Is it better than Me? And finally is it worth 15 bucks? Any help with these questions would be great!!!! Thanks for your input!
If you have windows 2000 running on your system, then I personally would not purchase and install windows NT 4.0 unless you want to take a look at it and learn something about it.
It is possible that if your hardware is too new, then you may have problems finding drivers for it. Also NT does not have USB support.
You cannot compare NT to ME they fit different purposes - business vs home.
The righ comparison would be win95 or NT...( but still fit different purposes)
If you would like to upgrade the OS and find something better then ME, then get XP Home.
I've just crashed a Dell Precision 220 using the resource CD and now part way through the process its asking for the windows NT workstation CD which I don't have (inherited office resources!!). Is there anything I can do or am I stuck? Txs!!

Hello The environment is as follows Windows Pro with certain security updates installed causes an issue for Standard users using VMWare Workstation where the mouse clicks that are meant for a VM are not registered by the VM every time sometimes it takes to 8, updates, click mouse 8.1 Pro Workstation User, issue security Standard with VMWare Windows Windows clicks to register in the VM and then other times you have to move the mouse outside the VM window and bring it back in for the mouse clicks to register This Windows 8.1 Pro with VMWare Workstation 8, Windows security updates, Standard User, mouse click issue issue is not present for Administrator users I have already narrowed down one update specifically that causes this issue by uninstalling Windows 8.1 Pro with VMWare Workstation 8, Windows security updates, Standard User, mouse click issue all security updates the problem went away as I installed one update at a time back on to the system update nbsp KB triggered the issue Windows 8.1 Pro with VMWare Workstation 8, Windows security updates, Standard User, mouse click issue I thought this was a resolution to just keep that update off my end users machines but when I installed the rest of the security updates excluding that update the issue returned I could uninstall and reinstall and narrow this down further but my main concern is that one this may create security issues that these updates are intended to fix and two that would create a lot of administrative overhead especially if more security updates in the future will cause the issue to return I would like for Microsoft to investigate this issue and either fix the problem with these updates or come up with a new update I can deploy that fixes this problem if such an update already exists I would greatly appreciate to be pointed in its direction either by KB number or download link so I can deploy it to fix this issue Thankshttps://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/59526f6a-8f89-4c49-a208-221922176c3b/windows-81-pro-with-vmware-workstation-8-windows-security-updates-standard-user-mouse-click?forum=w8itproappcompat

Hi, I had a look inside and the Z Turbo drive appears to be connected to the motherboard (location 23 on the motherboard map in the manual) and not using a SATA port or any of the four main PCIe3 slots. Only one of the PCIe3 slots is being used and that is for the NVIDIA graphics card, and only one of the SATA ports is being used and that is for the Slim BluRay drive (connected to SATA3). That means there are 3 x SATA ports available, and 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5" bays available, by the looks of it. My question is, is it possible to put 3 x HDD/SSD drives in it, i.e. 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5"?

If you are using VMWare Workstation with Windows 8.1 you will have to reinstall it. I attempted a repair first but that didn't work so I removed and reinstalled, and now all is working just fine. VMWare player worked without having to do a reinstall. . . good luck.
I did an uninstall/reinstall of VMWare Player 5.0.2 after upgrading Windows 8 to 8.1.
VMWare and the VMs ran OK but the Windows upgrade messed up the virtual network adapters.
The upgrade to Windows 8.1 also reset many of the preferences in my local user account, including such things as File Explorer settings, RDC default folder, Send To items, etc.
Overall relatively painless, but probably a bit confusing and frustrating for anyone non-technical, as once again the upgrade attempts to force you into creating a new online user account.
I run almost everything in VMs though, the only software installed on the Windows 8.x host is MS Office HS 2007, VMWare, and WinZip. So I wasn't expecting too much difficulty with the upgrade.
So far I do like the upgrade changes though...
Hi Recently had a computer 7 Z400 HP workstation Windows - get a blank screen on HP Z400 workstation - Windows 7 reboot it would loop in the Windows Professional bit startup repair utility I was unable to repair from an image so I had ordered the Reinstall Repair disks from HP While waiting I googled the error and found symptoms similar to others who had a rootkit virus and they mentioned getting to the desktop by choosing the boot option of not verifying signatures and then cleaned the virus with TDSSKiller from Kaspersky Those suggestions worked in our case and TDSSKiller found the infection in MBR Program said it was removed and I did an additional scan with MSSE MS security essentials and everything looked good Her computer shut down over the weekend for windows updates and on reboot the virus was back I followed the same procedures but I believe the malware virus is still residing in the master boot record I need some guidance on additional steps to clean it up thank you Gabe

Hi All We have some HP laptops at work running at Windows The laptop is connected 8 Workstation Freezes. with Windows to the domain and works perfectly fine It has some Group Policies applied on it and some network Workstation with Windows 8 Freezes. drives As soon as you disconnect it from the network domain laptop just freezes It does not Workstation with Windows 8 Freezes. really freeze at all but you cannot do a single thing You can only do ctrl alt delete and all the applications installed on it won't work at all Based on my analysis the reason that it freezes as soon as we disconnect it from the network is that it is looking for the apps that can only be found when connected to the network But after you connect back the ethernet cable it works fine again like nothing happened Any troubleshooting tips you think I can do on this one I dont really know where to start We have windows and XP implemented on the network but it does not experience the issue if you disconnect it from the network It just works well and synchronizes back on the network when you connect the cable back again or connect it thru our wifi network Helphttp://www.eightforums.com/general-support/37011-workstation-windows-8-freezes.html
Hello I have a gx 960 tower with a retail install of windows 7 pro 32 bit. Everything is working , but when i look in the device manager i see that pci serial communication controller hasthe drivers for the device are not installed code 28 errorHardware IDs:PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&SUBSYS_02761028&REV_03PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&SUBSYS_02761028PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&CC_078000PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&CC_0780For the support page i have installed AMT SOL/LMS and Intel for AMT HECI drivers but that did not make this device start to work what ever it is.anyone have any ideas on what should be installed if anything , or just forget out it if everything is working ?
I finally traced it back to this file here - Intel ME5 Host Embedded Controller Interface Driver
I installed it and all drivers seem to be installed from looking at the device manager.
I have no idea what it does but that seems to solve the problem

have you tried safe mode to see if it boots into windows
try a cmos reset
try a new data cable on the hard drive
try re-seating the ram, make sure it is seated, the clips clicking over does not mean that it is
check if it stays up without rebooting with the drives disconnected
if it does just reconnect the hard drive and see if it stable
Issue: Whever the system is booted/rebooted after POST, while transfering control to OS, the system goes into a pause/halt (keyboard and mouse doesn't responds)Workaround: As soon as one of the monitors is turned off, seems control passes to Windows 7 ("Loading windows" on black screen shows up) and boots normally, now the monitor can be turned on and dual display works as usualAdditional info: While the system is paused, if the NUM/CAPS/SCROLL lock is pressed in a particular sequence (even though the lights actually don't respond), it looks like the key-press sequence gets stored in buffer. This is verfied once one of the monitor is turned off, the same keypress pattern lights up on the keyboardSetup: z240 with 2x23" monitor connected to Display-ports, HP smartcard keyboard and mouse connected to rear USB. BIOS version 1.11 (SP74759)Has anyone experianced similar issue or anyone has a fix for this?
Same here.New Z240 workstation with Xeon E3-1245 v5 and two monitors HP Z24n, both attached on the motherboard's DisplayPorts.OS: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Sp1 with latest patches and drivers (including monitors' one), BIOS (01.27 Rev.A) I found two workarounds: power down and restart, or briefly attach another DVI monitor. I will try your trick to power off a monitor. P.S. Initially I had the same problem using two Samsung DVI monitors and HP DisplayPort->DVI adapters. I thought it was a problem with the signal conversion and changed monitors. Probably this post is an instance of the same problem:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z-240-Video/m-p/546...http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/z240-boot-issue-with-dual-monitor-setup/td-p/5531610
It appears that newly shipping Z240 Tower workstations DO NOT have an internal USB header anymore? The System Board Overview graphic in the Maintenance & Service Guide (Oct 2015) shows #7 as a USB 2.0 internal header. However, the location where the header should be on the system board is actually a 1x6 pin header (P150) listed as "MEDIA". The other USB 2.0 Header, #5, is taken up as the front USB cable. So is there an updated manual that shows what is actually on the system board? The Z240 Tower QuickSpec is dated March 2016, so I'm hoping there is a newer manual out there somewhere. Any idea what the P150 MEDIA header is for? Is this for the old media card readers? I have the optional SD card reader, but that is attached to #8 which is the internal USB 3.0 header. Any way to attach deveices that need an internal USB 2.0 header?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-internal-usb-header-and-updated-Maintenance-amp-Service/td-p/5598284

This should be easy but I can't find the PCI Serial Port Driver for HP Z240 VEN_8086 DEV_A13D. I think that's the AMT driver for this puppy.... I think its called sunrisepoint or skylake chipset? Things that make you go hmmmmm
Hi: You need this driver...the AMT SOL driver is included. Hi there nbsp My work machine is a HP Z SFF PC Last month the machine began randomly hanging and displaying blue screen errors There isn't much in the way of discernible patterns but it tends Z240 SFF blue crashes and HP screens random hangs, to happen when the machine is in use rather than idling and I can consistently reproduce it when using the Prime stress testing utility When I set it to maximise CPU heat as soon HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes as I stop the test the machine blue screens indicating a cooling issue The machine's fan is very quiet although on occasion it gets very loud after a restart and then quietens down I would expect the fan to get louder as the CPU gets hotter during the HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes stress test but this doesn't happen so I wonder if the fan is malfunctioning and if this is a known issue with these machines or if there is any possible resolution nbsp Please see below for the output of BlueScreeView which displays the error codes produced by recent blue screen errors nbsp nbsphttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z240-SFF-random-hangs-blue-screens-and-crashes/td-p/5658407
Hi, I?d like to install a media card reader (e.g. HP 468494-005) into the shared internal/external 3.5" drive bay of my HP Z240 SFF workstation but it doesn't fit. It probably needs a carrier of some kind, because the casing is just a bit too wide and there are no holes for the standard screws. I couldn't find any instructions on the HP website. Don't you have a snapshot you can revert to? Is this a work machine in a work environment?
Hi, a workstation on our domain running windows 7 64 bit downloaded updates from microsoft. There was about a hundred of them. Since they installed the machine won't connect to the network shares. It can access the internet easily enough.
The Workstation Service won't start. It comes up with an error 1068: The dependancy service or group failed to start.
I used System restore to go back before the updates and everything worked again. Installed the updates and the problem re-appears.
I have 2 wireless network adaptors so I disabled one. I'm no expert at this sort of thing and any help would be appreciated.
You'll probably want to find update causing that. Do not install all of them at once, go in "packs" of 10 (for example) so you will be able to narrow down issue to 10 updates and then find one in fault. Also disregard optional updates for now.
Hi I have just purchased a HP Workstation Z with Windows with on 8.1 Problems Workstation reinstallation HP Windows installed and I started installing other programs onto it I think it is when I installed Microsoft Office I already installed Microsoft Office once on my laptop the desktop background suddenly changed to the one I used in my laptop Afterwards when I restarted my desktop it kept saying that my Windows is already activated somewhere else So being frustrated I decided to reinstall my desktop by clicking the reinstallation button in the Setting Menu I think I ve messed everything up after that because when it restarted it couldn t perform the reinstallation It kept saying Attempting to recover and Problems with Windows 8.1 reinstallation on HP Workstation Diagnosing your computer I rang up HP support for help and they instructed me to perform the reinstallation by using the disc They told me put in the disc restart the desktop and press F F as the computer restarts to go to the command menu I tried both F F but it didn t take me to any menus but kept saying it is attempting to recover etc I m not very good at computer and the HP support doesn t seem to give me much help What can I do now to have my Windows reinstalled nbsphttps://forums.techguy.org/threads/problems-with-windows-8-1-reinstallation-on-hp-workstation.1156654/

A customer brought this problem to me, and I've never really dealt with SCSI before. This is an HP Workstation, dual processor capable, SCSI workstation. 2 18 Gb RAID-0. THey were installing XP servie pack 2, and someone rebooted it right in the middle. So now its in a constant loop whenever it loads Windows. They need the information off the drives, and I've tried BertPE, ClusterKnoppix, and even ERDCommander 2005 to see if I can access the drives. None of them can do it. The hardware is fine, I just need a way to get the information off the RAID drives. Help anyone? I'm going to try to install XP on a IDE drive, and use it as the master drive, see if I can get the information that way. If anyone has any other ideas, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!
I recently tried to set up a 120 Gb hard drive as a slave on one of my NT 4 machines but the drive is not showing up when i boot up.
does anyone please know A if NT will support this size of drive, and if so how I go about setting it up please.
It might be more of a issue with whether the BIOS on the computer will support it.
Before NT starts, does it show up?
Try going into your CMOS and make sure it is correctly detected by your computer.
If this doesn't work, you might check to see if there is a flash update for your BIOS to support such a large drive.
I installed windows nt workstation 4.0 on my computer (toshiba Satellite 2615DVD) and i installed the video drivers for nt 4.0 from toshibas site but i can't get more than 16 colors! it did say something about driver installation being messed up, try again, but i tried again and again and it wont let me get more than 16 colors!! what should i do?

I wan to know how to uninstall or remove Windows 8 ( windows 8.vmk file) in VMware Workstation 8, does I just need to delete the file located in C:\Users\my user name\Documents\Virtual Machines\Windows 8 (see picture below)
or does it have its own way to remove or uninstall it?
I do know how to install it but not to uninstall it, I hope somebody could help me
That works but it will complain about missing files, that's why you need to remove them from within Player.
Right-click on machine:
You can do what you intended afterwards, if some left-over files remained.
Welcome to the forums!
I wasn't sure wther to post in the vista forum or the NT workstation forum but as the current OS I am using is Vista I will post in this.
I was wondering if it was possible to dual boot Windows NT 4.0 Workstation with Windows Vista (Windows Vista being the current OS, which is one of the problems as it blocks me running setup). I tried running setup in safe mode which it let me do, it then copied files needed to install to the hard drive, and when it restarted nothing came up and vista booted as normal.
Any Ideas, or is it not even possible and am I wasting my time LOL.
Not sure that would be worth the time or effort.
As the system is running Vista now probably isn't gonna run with NT4. Different hardware
requirements and not gonna find the drivers.
You can't run the install from within Windows. You would need to boot to the cd to run
the setup process. Depending on the disk that you have you will need the setup floppies
Also earlier version of windows will need to be installed first and then later version .
So IMO this would be a waste of time to even attempt. Not saying that it will even work.
Just my thoughts on it.
I ve got a number of systems that have Windows 3020MT media Recovery Tower on won't 10 Windows work downgrade installed by default So I ve switched the firmware to UEFI as Windows 10 Recovery media won't work on 3020MT Tower per Windows 10 Recovery media won't work on 3020MT Tower I then booted the DVD from the UEFI boot dvd option and then try to install the OS but didn t get the option I also checked the following article but I don t get the option to Install as per step instead I get options for recovery repair same as you d get when running a recovery disc I ve tried the firmware with or without Secure Boot enabled that doesn t make a difference I ve also tried creating a UEFI USB stick from the DVD and using that same result Finally if I go through the advanced options I can select the built in option for Recovering the OS from disk the problem with this is that it installed a clean Windows install no drivers no Dell specific tweaks no Office trial installed which I simply want to activate Thought I d try the forums before calling Dell support on Monday Any ideas
I'd say skip the Dell media and use the installer from Microsoft ...
No drivers, but those few that are likely to be installed are easy enough to install.
No Dell-specific tweaks - other than Dell branding (which I doubt there is anyone that would 'want' that specifically), I'm not sure what you are referring to.
Office trial is just the free version apps with the Click-to-Run app installed - when you "activate" Office through the Click-to-Run with an existing key, the files for the version you activate are downloaded from the web anyway, so there is really no reason to let that deter you.
Hi all To install W developer edition current version as a VM with vmware workstation you have to download upgrade to version Version X and earlier won't work Vmware player current version gives same problem as vmware workstation x When you install choose W W8 vmware Install in use you of workstation must version -- vmware 8 as the OS there isn't a W option yet not surprisingly and select I will install the OS later Then select the DVD device in the vm serttings as a virtual ISO you don't need to burn a physical DVD and boot from the device Then it will install more or less as W Ignore any prompt for Install W8 in vmware workstation -- you must use version 8 of vmware a product key if it appears I wasn't asked for one but some people seem to get a request for a product key when attempting to install Install W8 in vmware workstation -- you must use version 8 of vmware W as a virtual machine You can download a free trial version for days from the vmware site it may be that eventually version x will work or the next upgrade of W will work so unless you want to upgrade to version of vmware workstation I'd start with downloading the trial Then it installs OK I don't have enough privileges yet to upload screenshot but it installs fine I've also posted a suggestion on how to remove disable the metro gui for those that want a more quot classical quot Windows look - you can see the post in the W Forum until I can get approval to post in the relevant section on this Forum on customising W http www sevenforums com chillout- -apps-gui html Cheers jimbo
