I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)

can you connect the pc directly to the router with a cable and then
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

http://go.pardot.com/l/66982/2015-01-26/2361i
enter you details
Download this file "DOWNLOAD WI-FI INSPECTOR Vx.xx "
( the site now appears to allow webbased emails like gmail, hotmail, outlook and yahoo now )

There is also a xirrus gadget, But that does not have all the fuctionality "DOWNLOAD GADGET Vx.xx

http://download.cnet.com/Xirrus-Wi-Fi-Inspector/3000-18508_4-75758254.html
Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

A user guide is available here
http://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/xirruswifiinspectorguide1-2-0

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)
Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

To post a screen shot of the active window.

Windows XP
Hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application (Start> All Programs> Accessories> Paint) and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

I have a HP Notebook 15. I restarted my laptop this morning and when it came back on, all options for connecting to the internet via WiFi were gone. I am able to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, and everything works this way. There are no options whatsoever to connect to WiFi or reset the connection or anything, however the WiFi itself is working because other devices in the house are connected to it. I followed a HP technical support online page, which provided step-by-step instructions of various ways to reconnect to WiFi but nothing worked. I tried restarting the computer, updating the driver software, making sure it wasn't in airplane mode, and troubleshooting. Nothing worked. What should I try next?

Actually my wifi adapter can catch all other wifi signal except my wifi router.

A:my notebook wifi adapter don't get my wifi router

There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.

Everyone's had the problem of wanting to disable the wifi miniport, or enable it to share wifi.

I have a different problem. I would like to change which wireless device the wifi miniport uses, as the external USB wireless adapter I was using died. I cannot see the wifi miniport adapter without that device attached, it seems. I don't even know if the wifi adapter even as options to select which wireless card to use even if I could get it to appear.

Is there a way to do this without having to resort to reinstalling Windows 7?

I am fairly familiar with netsh. No command line option seems to be available to switch network adapters for the wifi miniport.

It also appears that it will simply not switch to the only wireless network adapter detected, and I know it will host a virtual wifi network, I've done ICS/AdHoc before.

A:How does one change which wifi adapter the wifi miniport uses?

I tried the solution in this link: How to change default Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport adapter?

This did not work.

So, there are many articles out there that will show you how to use cmd prompt to create a wifi hotspot (eg: this article Internet Connection Sharing - Create WiFi HotSpot)

However, is there anyway to do this with TWO separate wifi adapters? That is, use one adapter to connect to your router and the other to act as the router? Some articles seem to indicate this is the ideal setup but no one seems to specify how to control which wifi adapter is used to create the wifi hostpot in command prompt.

Thanks for any help.

If I can get the basics to work, the next step is to try to integrate a VPN so that I can basically use my PC as a VPN router (but with no physical ethernet connection).

Hello,

Maybe someone here can help. I have a new Dell Latitude E6400.

The WIFI connection will connect and then disconnect every couple minutes. All the other computers in my house that use this wifi stay connected fine and always have. For some reason, this computer will only stay connected for a few minutes and then will disconnect. If I hook in to the router using the ethernet cord - it works fine. So I know that it is not the router or the ISP. My wireless router is a Wireless G router - which I would assume is compatible with this new computer.

What should I do to try and fix it?

A:Wifi keeps dropping

I would update the wireless adapter in your laptop - go onto the manufactures website - support and search for your model, then download and update the latest driver
If that does not help
i would take the wireless secruity off the router and see if that stops the problem (as a fault finding exercise, will we needto work out how to put it backon)
if not
I would then change the channel used for wireless on the router - use 1or 6 or 11

Hello, my Lenovo Z50-70 keeps dropping WiFi. This can happen as frequently as every 5 minutes or as infrequently as once a day. But it happens every day. When the WiFi conection drops, I have to manually tell it to reconnect, even though I have it set to automatically connect to networks. Then it take 2 or 3 minutes to connect. It's not a range issue as it happens anywhere in our house. It also only happens to this one device (doesn't happen to our other Lenovo, any of our Macs, iPhones, iPads, game consoles, or any other connected device) Any tips or suggestions?

Wifi drops out when laptop is used within 1m of Virgin Media Super Hub, but seems okay at 3m. Is this normal?

A:Wifi dropping out

Premature conclusion. Wifi still drops out at 3m separation from hub. However, it doesn't drop out at all when at a friend's house. The only difference that I can make out is that the network is congested at my home, and is sparsely populated at my friend's place. But this congestion has never bothered my Toshiba laptop, nor my partner's tablet, which both remain connected when the HP Envy drops out and reads "no wifi networks available".

I have an Ativa Wireless G Router hooked up to my Gateway desktop PC running Windows Xp. Before I had no problem connecting it to my laptop but lately when my laptop boots up it will show that it is connected to it with an excellent connection. Then by the time the laptop is completely booted, the connection disintegrates from excellent, to good, to low and eventually none. It seems like this only happens when my laptop connects to the wifi though. I can connect my phone running Android perfectly but once I try connecting my laptop the whole connection goes down, even on my phone. I tried resetting my router and my modem but nothing seems to work. Thanks in advance .

{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Direct link to the program is here http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifi_download_redirect.php
Then run and install the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

I assume Intel 7260 wifi adapter is installed into your Lenovo laptop. If that's true wait new wifi driver. Also disable power saving option for this card, there is a chance it's a reason of your issue.

My wifi keeps dropping the connection randomly. I can only get it to reconnect by using ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew which fixes it every time. Please help, I am running Vista Ultimate.

A:Wifi keeps dropping connection

Do you have this problem with an ethernet connection?

Do multiple computers have this problem?

Have you checked for wireless interference?

Make sure you have the latest driver for the wireless adapter. If it is an integrated adapter on a laptop it should come from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

Make sure you have the latest firmware upgrade for your router. Then reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

Hello I'm a fairly new Vista user living in school housing. I'm on a wireless network and every 1-3 hours about my connection will drop. I dont believe this to be an issue with the school's Wifi as my roomates connection never seems to drop. I can always hop back onto the network but it's becoming annoying when I've been right in the middle of something. Unfortunately I'm not very computer savvy so I'll tell you what information I have but it probably wont be enough.

I'm not on a laptop, this computer was built.
When I looked up my Wireless adapter all i can find is 802.11n Wireless LAN.
I have already tried updating the drivers for this.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me

I got a new pavilion dm4 with windows 7in April, and I had no problems with connecting to the Internet untill a month or so ago. When I start the computer and it connects to my wifi, the connection will work for anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. After that my computer seems to have dropped the Internet cOnnection, but it says that I still have a connection in the network panel. When I try to load a web page, it freezes up or something, because nothing happens and it eventually tells me I'm not connected to the Internet, even though it says I still have a signal. I have to restart my computer, then I will get maybe another 10 minutes and it happens again. I'm pretty sure it's not the router because my Mac has no problem with the connection. Any ideas on what's wrong would be appreciated.

hi

whenever i am playing games on my laptop
the wifi drops a lot..
i know there are inteferences like phones and microwaves and such, but
is it possible that is because of heat in the wifi card area on my laptop?

I am having this trouble since a long time..
changed wifi settings, a lot of things around..
just cant seem to fin the issue

A:Wifi dropping because of heat?

I doubt it's because of heat or interference, unless you have a really really cheap machine.

IF the game does not need wifi to work, the most likely is because of power mode options. That is computer puts the card in power saving mode since there is no need for it, and its performance degrades.

My friend's Aspire E 15 keeps dropping from the wireless AP. I've tried:1. Updating the drivers2. Disabling the OS's ability to turn off the adapter to save power3. Throttling the connection to strictly 802.11b It's dropping even though she sits within 15 feet of the AP. None of the other devices connecting to the AP have a problem. I don't think it's a loose antenna because I've tried shaking the laptop gently from different angles to see if that would disconnect it, and it didn't.  Further, and curiously, she has the same number of bars for reception from 1 foot away from the AP, and when on the other side of the house. It dropped her twice in a 30 minute period while I was there.  She has to manually reconnect to the AP for some reason.  Windows 10. Any ideas?

A few months ago I upgraded from laptop from Windows to and have been using it with no internet issues A few days ago I did a complete fresh reinstall of Windows so WiFi on my laptop dropping keeps but only it basically wiped my computer then installed I've found a lot of benefits to doing this - it's speeded things up dramatically and I'm happy However my internet connection has become patchy It appears to be random but every now and then my WiFi will just drop out Sometimes it'll reconnect after seconds sometimes it won't reconnect at all and I'll have to manually disconnect and reconnect It might happen a few times an hour or a few times a day but it does appear to be getting more frequent I don't think it's a router problem as there are a lot of other devices using WiFi and none of them drop out at all The other devices are my phone the wife's phone the wife's Chromebook WiFi keeps dropping but only on my laptop the TV the Sky WiFi keeps dropping but only on my laptop box WiFi keeps dropping but only on my laptop wired and my daughter's Kindle Not all of these will be turned on and sometimes the phone's are using mobile network but I do know only my laptop has these WiFi issues My uneducated diagnosis is that perhaps it's a driver issue caused by reinstalling Windows and not having the right driver files or updates Another thought is that perhaps there's too many things connecting and for some reason it's causing an IP conflict with just my laptop I attach a list of connected devices I recognise my laptop called DESKTOP for some reason and my wife's phone I have no idea what the Ghz device is it could be the Samsung TV and I think the two ethernet things are the Sky Box and a NAS box I have I attach the reg txt file that I saw another user recommend in a different post Since posting I've changed the lease time from day to days Is there anything that people can advise me to look at Thanks in advance

A:WiFi keeps dropping but only on my laptop

Which is your wireless station as there are 2 bt ones both on channel 11 and one stronger than the other that can kill your connection. BT home hubs are a pain as they are normally set to auto so they swap channels on there own problem is if there is another one close they both switch back onto the same channel so block each other again. If you have an andriod phone get wifi analyzer from the store this shows whats close and whats the best channel to set your router.

disable ipv6 set dns to 208.67.220.220 & 208.67.222.222

Hello,

I have some issues with my home network. I have Macs (2 laptops and 1 desktop), iPhones (4S,5,5S), an Android (Droid Razor Max HD), an iPad (3rd gen), a Raspberry PI and a desktop PC running Windows 7. I am able to use the network very well with all devices except for the Windows 7 tower. It seems to disconnect randomly and when all other devices are working perfectly fine. I am using Comcast xfinity modem/router which works well for everything but the windows 7 PC. Any suggestions or requests for files/logs would be greatly appreciated. This has been driving me crazy. This problem appeared sometime around the end of November possibly because of an Update? I am running the latest driver for my Wifi Card (TP link 4800).

A:Good wifi signal keeps dropping

Wireless interference is the most likely cause of the disconnects. Do you detect any other wireless networks? If so, are any on the same (or close) channel as yours?

If the signal is actually dropping--can't be detected--the router is probably defective. Make sure that is has ventilation and is not overheating.

This is in my new computer, but firstly about my old computer
It worked perfectly on there, then I moved it to this one and now it randomly drops every couple hours

It's the same OS, same driver, same card, same router, everything is the same
No other computers on the network are having this trouble

To fix it I don't need to restart or disable the card and re-enable or anything...
I just disconnect from the network and reconnect

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

TL DR WiFi no work Keep disconnect Driver uninstall Reinstall Now WiFi keep become limited What do Let me first tell a little bit of history about my laptop Dell Inspiron R I got it a month and a half ago and lived in a dorm dropping limited / constantly becoming WiFi room with only WiFi constantly dropping / becoming limited one LAN port I used the LAN port and downloaded a Virtual WiFi Router program to share the connection with my roommates There were no problems at all Then I came back home two weeks ago and connected using WiFi the modem is in my brother's room and we have no cable long enough to connect to it That's when problems start occurring The WiFi would drop every three or four this was not so serious But in recent days it would begin dropping every hour give or take another minutes This problem becomes more common when I'm playing League of Legends where it would drop every minutes or so What I don't understand is that it drops the connection for seemingly no reason When I check the WiFi list the connection is still there it's just that I'm not connected and have to reconnect manually Another weird issue is that it takes me about a minute or two to reconnect usually it's instant In addition it will attempt to connect for a long time just says there quot Checking network requirements quot then it will say the connection attempt has failed BUT it actually succeeded in connecting I've Googled and found out that others are experiencing the problem too and managed to fix it by changing the power management settings making it so that Windows will not shut down the WiFi to save power This did not work Yet another suggested uninstalling the driver and restarting the laptop and I did just that Windows reinstalled the driver while rebooting Now the connection stopped dropping which is good but is now constantly becoming limited which is bad I would browse the internet normally and realize none of the pages are loading then check the network symbol which seems fine until seconds later when it shows that it has become limited Now it took me about minutes to type this and the WiFi has been behaving but the moment I start League it starts going crazy every minutes In light of this problem my brother told me to use his room when I'm gaming as we had an extra cable The connection doesn't drop while using the cable but another issue cropped up Every seconds to a minute something happens I'm not sure what but when using Google Chrome it will suddenly become unselected When playing League it will suddenly tab out to the desktop without any notification or any background program running This stopped happening when I returned to my room and used the WiFi again and back to constantly limited connection This might not be a network problem but I'm throwing this out here just in case anybody knows how to fix it So now I have no idea how any of this happened I might suspect that this is a router problem as I had no problems whatsoever in my dorm yet I am also positively convinced that my laptop is haunted If anybody can help and or needs additional information just ask for it Even if the problem cannot be fixed I would at least want to know the cause because if it's the laptop I'd have to get it fixed before returning to college EDIT The connection just went limited again and I used the Network Troubleshooter The issue given was quot The default gateway is not available quot and it was rectified by resetting the WiFi adapter

If you can send a screen cap of your ipconfig we can get an idea about how you are connecting to your network.

from the command prompt type IPCONFIG then screencap that, you may have to expand the windows to display everyting..

Then when you post select add image in the message icons..

The internet connection tends to drop out whenever I try and carry out network heavy tasks such as streaming video. Whenever the laptop loses connection, other devices remain connected and able to access the network. I have tried updating the network device drivers, using windows and the HP assistant but with no improvement.

Hi I had to get a new computer a few weeks ago after a terrible accident with my laptop which had been running vista bit with no problems what so ever The new computer has a built in a b g adapter that i believe is by realtek and is running vista bit My router is a linksys WRT N My network connection drops seemingly randomly sometimes staying connected for a few minutes sometimes for hours The only predictable thing about it is that it will always drop when the computer is left alone long enough to sleep or pull up a screen saver and it will always drop when there are more than a few pages loading at once or if there i have loaded multiple videos in a row such as on youtube Haha in fact it dropped while typing this post The only way to get it back is to go disable then re-enable the adapter at which point the connection will stay active for Vistax64 Dropping Keeps Connection Wifi who knows how long again before dropping Any thoughts Linksys of course has no drivers available for anything bit but I would like to upgrade my internal to a wireless N card I just cant seem to find anything yet that supposedly plays well with vista bit home premium Thank you so much in advance for any assistance

Make sure that you have the adapter power setting to maximum performance. It might be a problem with the network adapter going to a power save mode.

Windows 10 (had the same issue on Win 7) HP EliteBook Laptop Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 I am constantly dropping the wifi signal on this laptop. I dont believe it is the modem as I have checked my phone when I have lost the signal and the phone can still surf the net. I have also checked other devices and they seem to be working fine. I notice it the most when I am playing a game or streaming video. But it also happens when I'm surfing the net and checking email.  So far I have tried updating the drivers, making sure everything else on here was up to date, I installed a driver locator from hp to make sure that everything was all good (it says it was) I looked through device manager to see if there were any issues, and now I'm out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated, this is starting to get annoying

A:Constantly dropping my wifi signal

Here are a few options:

Change the power setting on the device:

Device Manager
Locate your wireless card and right click>Properties>Power Managment,
uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power"

If nothing then:

Open Command Prompt(As Admin) and type:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconifg/release
ipconfig/renew

If nothing still then:
try resetting your Winsock settings and disable IPv6 (unless you need it)

Reset Winsock:

Start up notepad and copy and paste this into notepad:

@echo off
netsh winsock reset
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log
echo You now have to reboot your PC!
pause

Then save it on your Dessktop as "winsockreset.bat" (or whatever you please) just make sure it's a .bat file,
Save on desktop
Close Notepad
Run it.

Try Them out one by one and see if any of those fix the issue. Goodluck and let us know!

Hello,

A friend of mine just bought a HP Envy dv6-1148ca and the LAN and WIFI keeps dropping out.
He has re-installed W8 twice with the same results.

System specs:
W8 64bit
AMD A8-4500M
8GB RAM DDR3 800MHz
750 GB HDD
AMD Radeon HD 7640G
Ralink RT 3290 802.1 bng WIFI adaptor - Driver v5.0.2.0 Date:2012-08-08
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller - Network adapter, Driver v8.3.730.2012 Date:2012-07-30

Searches showed others with HP laptops having the same issues, no one seems to find an answer to this problem.

Secure sites seem to be more stable, but do drop out.
Some sites won't start at all, others start but drop out after 1-3 hours.

We have reset the Power Management to not 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' and still the same.
Other laptops on same network are having no problems, including other HP laptops, different models.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

A:HP Envy dv6 dropping the LAN and WIFI connection

You might be barking at the wrong tree. There might be an IP conflict. Try doing a power cycle on both modem and router. Unplug both. Wait for 30sec. Then plug the modem back in and wait till it completely boots up. Then plug the router back in. Let me know if that works.

Hi All

I am using an OLD dell tower running XP pro. I am using an MSI US60SE network adapter to connect to my Wifi.

It connects fine, but every 30 mins or so it loses connection & I have to go to "Change order of preffered Network" to click it again and it connects.

Any Suggestions?

A:WIFI Dropping out & keep having to choose preferred network

can we see an xirrus screen shot - when working and again after it disconnects - make sure we know which screen shot is for which condition

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector.aspx
Direct link to the program is here http://info.xirrus.com/Wi-FiInspectorConfirmation.html

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

A user guide is available here http://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/Xirrus-Wi-Fi-inspectorguide-1-2-1-RevB-6.aspx

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)

Vista or Windows 7
you can use the "snipping tool" which is found in Start> All programs> Accessories> Snipping Tool

Windows 8
you can use the snipping tool > Open Snipping Tool (From the Windows 8 Start Screen, type "snip" and press enter.
>Press the Esc. key.
>go back to your Windows 8 start screen - Swipe from left or press Window Button
>Press Ctrl+PrntScr button to use Snipping Tool

Hello everybody. Wish I didn't have to keep coming back here but I got problems. I got the XP Security 2012 pop up thing. Some site told me to to make a Registry file, change the name of the virus. I was unable to get back online but I finally got my Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to pop up and ran a scan. I was able to get back on line with wifi but it keeps dropping and then it says "Acquiring Network Address". My wifi had been dropping the past couple of days before the XP Security popped up. Google now redirects me to sites like yellowpages.com and other search engines. I've ran HouseCallTrendMicro and it didn't find anything and Microsoft Security Essentials. Please help. Thanks.

I have an Asus x e running Windows Home Premium x I recently replaced the HDD minutes connection dropping WiFi for 10-15 every so. or seconds 10 with an SDD and decided to start over with a fresh Windows installation After installing Windows WiFi connection dropping for 10-15 seconds every 10 minutes or so. I got all of the drivers for my laptop model off of the Asus website and installed them Ever since upgrading to the SSD and reinstalling the OS my WiFi connection has been dropping for a short time about - seconds every minutes or so It drops waits - seconds and then reconnects This is super frustrating and has become very disruptive at work I also have a desktop computer and an iPad neither of which have this problem so it seems to be a problem with the Windows laptop rather than with my WiFi router It is worth noting that I never had this problem with the laptop before upgrading to the SSD and reinstalling Windows If anyone has any suggestions as to what might be causing this and how to fix it I would really appreciate it

Hi
My M17 is constantly dropping out since upgrading to windows 10,i have since rolled back to 7 and it works fine. However i prefer 10 so i keep going back,it starts off every now and then and gradually gets worse untill as of now it wont work at all.
Its fine when i plug an ethernet cable in.
Is there anything i can do as i dont really want to go back to 7 as i used to have BSOS problems which i have never had with 10

thanks

A:alienware wifi keeps dropping since windows 10 upgrade

Not sure what model you have but older windows 7 laptops might not have windows 10 drivers available and are stuck using the generic drivers. It would be better to rollback to 7 until you can upgrade to a new computer. Check Dell drivers and downloads to see your model is supported with win 10 drivers. If not, rollback to 7.

From my own research, if you have an intel centrino N - 2230 network adaptor and use windows 8 64 bit, you need a new driver. That adaptor has wifi connectivity issues that are known to intel. Check here : http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-025332.htm and then contact an HP tech via chat and they will download and install the correct new driver from intel's website. I tried doing it myself and it did not work. The tech did it for me via online chat and remote assistance. Do to let them tell you it's a hardware issue. It's a network adaptor issue that requires an updated driver. Let me know if it works for you.

Hello there,

Im encountering this strange problem for a couple of months now and at first i thought it might be an ISP issue.
But i realise it may not be.
The wifi icon occassionally has an exclamation mark on it indicating no internet access despite being connected to the network.
When i run my mouse over the icon, it starts identifying with the network and i get access back again.
I notice it drops after i leave the PC dormant or dont move the mouse. This has disallowed me to download anything large without disconnecting halfway.

Has anyone experienced this before?

First off what OS are you using? You specified Windows XP. If you are using XP, you are in the wrong forum. We need the full system Spec's on your machine. That means you will have to download Speccy from Speccy - System Information - Free Download

I've had this laptop for several weeks and each time I unplug the power cable to use it running off the battery, the wifi connection drops. The timing of when it drops is variable, but this happens consistently. I know from my other devices there is no issue with my Wifi service itself - my other devices remain connected at all times. The laptop will show as either no internet connections available at all (again, not true as my other devices confirm there are), or, my own Wifi is showing on the laptop, but as unavailable. This never happens when the laptop power cable is plugged in. I only ever unplug when there's sufficient power - usually from 100% battery. Please can someone advise?

I have a Netgear CG3000D-RG cable modem through Charter, and the connection is absolutely perfect when connected with an ethernet cable, but any device connected with wifi constantly drops out (even in the same room)...sometimes every 10 or 20 minutes, but just as often it will happen over and over constantly. Disconnecting and then reconnecting fixes the connection entirely until the next drop out. It doesn't get slow or anything, it's either on or off.

Any ideas? Maybe a setting I'm not aware of? Or is this a hardware failure? The last thing I want to do is "rock the boat" with Charter because I'm afraid tampering with equipment might make my whole connection unstable again, like I've had so much trouble with in the past.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)
Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

Hi Something strange is happening to my surface pro running windows Pro bit At first I was trying to surf on the dropping reconnecting keeps wifi surface manually after pro 3 on net and received something like server connections timed out I then checked on my wifi status by hovering my mouse over the wifi icon at the system tray and it said quot internet access quot This is usually a good sign But still unable to load any external pages on the firefox browser I then had to run the diagnosis over the wifi network and the wifi came back alive By the way by disconnecting and reconnecting the wifi wouldn't fix the internet connection issue after minutes or so the internet was down again I had to run diagnosis over the wifi network and it worked wifi keeps dropping after reconnecting manually on surface pro 3 again After this I tried to check to see if there was any updates that I need wifi keeps dropping after reconnecting manually on surface pro 3 to install I found that it's in the middle of downloading quot upgrade to windows pro version quot This is the latest major upgrade from Microsoft By now I kinda got tired of running diagnosis on the wifi network I got to hook it up with the ethernet wire connection Now I can access the Internet and the windows update started downloading without any interruption But I can't rely on the ethernet cable for the stable internet connection My question is would this wifi dropout issue be caused by this windows update download Or are there any tweaks that you may suggest I should try By the way I have also disabled Hyper-V on this machine Any help would be greatly appreciated Cheers

A:wifi keeps dropping after reconnecting manually on surface pro 3

If it is only with Windows 10 that it is dropping connections, but not in Windows 8.1. You are one of many that Microsoft is not supporting for that unit.

The Surface 3 Pro has had more problems with it, then Windows. Majority of them are power plug adapter problems. It does not surprise me that Microsoft is forcing users to upgrade to their newer model.

A lot of people are going with the Lenovo Yoga, because it has better support and a whole lot cheaper.

Every few minutes, my laptop looses connectivity with my router which requires me to reconnect manually.  Other devices behave normally.Sometime, when I run the trouble-shoot function, this resets the adaptor, which will often resolve the issue for a temporary period of time. Lastly, despite attempting to make adjustments to the power settings, the laptop will go to sleep after just a couple of minutes.  This is even with the settings set to "Never".  Don't know if this is connected to the general issues regarding wifi connection. Appreciate some help.

I keep having trouble staying on the wifi at a local coffee shop (Panera). Once I connect, it stays connected for maybe 10 minutes. Then constantly drops off. Disconnect, wait a minute then reconnect, and it might work again for a short time.

Reboot the laptop, and the process starts all over again.

Never have any trouble on any other wifi. Another laptop that I will occasionally bring stays connected for well over an hour. Same with my phone.

Can anyone offer any suggestions. Thanks.
Here are the specs to the laptop.

My setup is that we have a main family computer which is connected to our broadband via an ethernet cable and this has the router the when out dropping room in WiFi is leaving a router attached which shoots out our wifi to our iPhones my MacBook Pro my PC which receives the WiFi through an antenna thing and my brother s laptop The internet on our main PC is fine on my PC it can connect but sometimes has trouble finding the network and may need a jigging around of the antenna My brother s laptop has similar problems but is basically OK They are positioned in various parts of the house I bought a MacBook Pro for school work the other day and tried connecting to the network The MBP would find the network easy and it would have a bar signal strength However when attempting to connect I am greeted with a quot Connection WiFi dropping out when leaving the room the router is in timeout quot error I can only connect when I am sitting literally right next to the router next to my main family PC I can confirm that the MBP can receive WiFi connections well as I tried it in the Apple Store but it seems to not want to connect to my wireless network unless next to the router if I attempt to move out of the room the router is in the WiFi will drop as soon as I go into my room the room where my PC picks up the WiFi signal basically fine but with a few minor niggles So to reiterate my phones laptops and PCs all pick up the signal fine The signal works basically fine for my PC brother s laptop but my MBP just won t pick it up unless in close proximity This is obviously not ideal for me as I don t want to be able only to use the internet in my cramped PC room Any solutions Thanks nbsp

I have two laptops here at home that I run through a wireless router for my internet. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite series laptop running Windows Vista and is giving me absolutely no problems whatsoever. My wife's on the other hand is losing connection from the internet about every hour or so. It's not happening at any certain interval but sporadic. When this happens she has to use the Repair my Connection option several times to get the internet back working again. Her laptop is a Sony Vaio running Windows Vista 64 bit.

I wondered to start with if the 64 bit was the problem. I've updated my routers internal software. It's a Netgear wireless router. Anything else I need to add? Help?

How far away from router? What make/model WiFi adapter?
Also if you are really on 8 you should upgrade to 8.1.

I'm using a new Asus AC68U router. My home network includes, among other items, my desktop and my laptop (a Dell XPS 15). The laptop occasionally drops the wifi on the 2.4 GHz band. Everything else on the network handles both bands fine. The laptop has been holding well on the 5Ghz band. How do I determine with the 2.4 Ghz band if the problem is the laptop, the router--or both? How do I diagnose this problem? I should mention that all the laptop and Asus drivers are up to date. Thanks.

I am desperate. really really desperate, I don't know what to do anymore

I spent a lot of money on a new gaming pc and it has been a complete nightmare from the start. I have wireless network at home so I had to het a usb wifi adapter, the Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter.

Its setup cannot complete because it is stuck eternally at "detecting adapter"

I sought online but it's only people reporting the problem and NOBODY giving a solution. pleas pleeeaaaase somebody help.

A:Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter stuck detecting adapter

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

A:Wifi adapter could not bind IP protocol stack to network adapter

Hi Ron, Welcome to Sevenforums.

Try this to start

Control Panel > Administration Tools > Computer Management > Services & Applications > Services.

Scroll down this list to find 'WLAN Auto Config'

Double click on 'WLAN Auto Config' On the general tab, select from the start up type drop down menu, select 'Automatic'. Under Service Status click on 'Start'. Then 'Apply' these settings and exit from all open control panel windows.

This should then allow Windows to set the required bindings.

My new notebook running Windows 10 constantly drops wifi connection to router on the 5.2GHz band. The wifi adapter is an Intel 7265 AC unit and I have updated the driver from the Intel site. Android devices in the same area have no problem so it doesn't appear to be the router/channel.Troubleshooting suggests "Default gateway not available" or "Protocol missing". Windows fixes problem only for it to reoccur. When connected on the 2.4GHz band there seems to be no problem. Regardless of proximity to the router, the same issues arise. Any suggestions to remedy this appreciated as its spoiling my enjoyment of an otherwise great machine

Ok, I realize that Windows 10 is not supported on this laptop at the moment.  The question I have is WILL it eventually be supported?  Will there be new drivers for the intermittent wifi issue?   As of now, I'm using the last driver that Lenovo published for the Broadcom 802.11n.  It's version 6.30.223.256 I recall there was a similar issue when Windows went from 8 to 8.1 and then it was resolved.   Any help with keeping my wifi consistently connected would be greatly appreciated.  Are there any 3rd party drivers that might work? The rest of Windows 10 seems to be working well and I'd hate to roll back to 8.1 only to lose the new system if new drivers/solutions are going to be offered.

After about 3 failed attempts to upgrade to windows 10 from 8.1 i inadvertently clicked on that annoying prompt to try again, and it completed the upgrade this time.
Everything is fine with it, except the Wifi and ethernet keeps dropping. If i do the troubleshoot repair or disable/enable my ethernet adapter then it works again for a few minutes before dropping again.
I have installed every upgrade recommended by the Dell website but it still persists. I have the Inspiron 7537
Can anyone recommended any steps to fix it?

Hello, my computer has had wifi issues for about a year. It used to be solved when I disable and enable the wifi adapter but recently it results in it being unable to search for wifis near it. After I restart the computer, it goes back to normal but after a while I may lose connection and have to repeat the process. The driver I'm using is up to date according to Windows (Broadcom 7.35.344.0)  and reinstalling older versions still result in the same problem.  Possibly related, I formatted my computer recently because it had booting issues and I wasn't able to install the wifi driver before that.

The inspiron when connected to a different WiFi network had no issues. Help.

A:Inspiron n5110 with Win 7 Home dropping wifi connection frequently

Hi santas22,

Please try the following steps:

Remove all 'wireless profiles' manually:
- Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks > Right click to remove all wireless networks listed (Windows will detect the networks automatically and will allow you to establish connectivity again; use the 'network security key' if using a secured connection)

If the issue persists, please share details of the wireless card installed in your notebook. To find that information, click 'Start' > Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotations) in the 'search text-box' > Tap 'Enter' to open 'Device Manager' page > Expand the category 'Network Adapters' > Capture and share details of the wireless devices listed underneath this category.

Do reply with the findings. I'll take it forward from there.
