Q: New Laptop but Warranty Period shows expired

Hi All, I have bought my new laptop HP Envy AE101NX yesterday (25-May-2016). However, when I open HP support center application and recovery applications, where we see the warranty period information it is showing incorrect information. The store supervisor informed me that it is in 2 years warranty period. The information being showin in these apps is 6 Months and that too Start Date : XX/08/2015End Date : XX/02/2016. This Feb-2016 is already passed. I could not understand how come the warranty is already expired, even though it is for 6 months for some reasons. Can anyone please advise on how to get this fixed? I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I purchased my laptop HP 14 R212TX on 18th October 2015. My HP Support Assistant as well as the HP support website shows that my warranty is expired.I had a One Year Warranty for my laptop. I have the invoice with me.I don't think my warranty should have expired. Please look into the issue urgently. P.S. Also I have tried the Warranty Dispute procedure two times and stil no response from HP.

I had the wireless part of my mouse plugged into my laptop and it fell. The hard drive inside was shifted, when I opened it the screen was all glitchy and had ink leaks on the screen. My warranty is up, how much would it cost to fix it?

Hello, I bought another refurbished HP laptop from Colorado Computer Outlet back on May 17th and am having a problem with one of the memory modules but when I checked on the HP site, it shows that the warranty started on March 17th and has already expired. My nephew is running a HP laptop with windows 7, he switched it on and got a blue screen followed by a Micsoft Screen saying that he has to activate windows, tried the product key but no luck.

Its about a 2 year old laptop bought new and was working fine over the weekend, any help much appreciated.

I am trying to upload some prom pictures from my camera and keep getting this error, semaphore timeout period expired. The confusing thing is that when I uploaded the pictures from my other cf card it worked perfectly. When I started with the other cf card it uploaded 25 files and then the error message. I tried again and it only uploaded 1 picture before the error and now will not at all. Help me please

Hello, My grandpa is trying to get his photos off of his SD card.
I just set him up with a clean install of XP Pro on his desktop
He has an on board usb card reader like 15 - in - 1 or something like that.
He puts in his SD card and trys to acsess the drive D: since that is the slot for the sd card
Then the window locks up for a few min then he gets a pop up message saying:
"The semaphore timeout period has expired."
He has already tried other camera cards with no change.
Any ideas?

hello again dang this thing is a pain new issue today trying to save a tiny rtf file to external USB drive and get quot semaphore timeout period has expired quot message and have to save to local drive instead also get the message if i drag and drop into the expired period timeout has semaphore desired location perhaps related to the issue i occasionally have the machine semaphore timeout period has expired loses connection to the external drive and either the folder shows empty it's not or doesn't show as even being connected little blue light on the drive will sometimes go out sometimes not but still no access EDIT i have two verbatim USB drive attached one or the other of them will occasional disappear from This PC and when i look at device manager there is an error on that drive i disconnect and reconnect and the drives show semaphore timeout period has expired up and the error in device manger goes away there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why this happens when it does and i try to save something to the drive that's when i get the quot semaphore timeout period has expired quot i have tried to update drivers using windows search online and it always says i have the best drivers loaded the drives have been checked for errors and windows reports none there is still quite a bit of available space on them gigs on each and when they are connected and live i can access files with no problem it just decides to seemingly drop the drive randomly thanks for any help

I was lazy and didn't back up my system recently...very bad of me, I know. My activation period for XP ended today and now I can't get back in until I call Microsoft. Unfortunately it's Sunday night and I need to get into my desktop!!

When I reactivate tomorrow, will everything be there? (Please say yes)

If you had specialist software, you'd be able to access the data but you'd be limited as to what you could do with it

I have a toshiba satelite 205 that has a SD slot. When I insert the card to transfer files I get the error: Semaphore time period has expired......
I read somewhere that if you lock the card that you can view the files, but you still cannot write to or from the disk. Does anyone know of a fix for this? Please help, I really need to use this disk.

Whenever I try to copy large files over a wireless network (Laptop > Desktop) I get the following error:-

I've done a search on Google and have found that a number of other users are having the same problem, but no-one seems to have a fix for it.
 
Can anyone help?

This issue may be a little complex and require some steps to troubleshoot:
 
1.    Update the driver of wireless network adapters in both of your computers.
2.    Temporarily disable all the firewalls and anti-virus applications, then check the issue again.
3.    To exclude the factors from other services and applications, do a clean boot to check the issue and perform Step 4.(KB929135) How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vistahttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;929135
4.    With clean boot, try to apply the hotfixes contained in the following KB articles:(KB932045) Error message when you use a network connection to copy a large file from one Windows Vista-based computer to another Windows Vista-based computer: "The connection has been lost"

There is another message on these forums with almost exactly the same title. It's closed, so I couldn't post there.

I'm getting that exact same response from Win'7 in a try /catch scheme.

i.e., "...The semaphore timeout period has expired..."

I am quite confident that the serial port is really there, as he will open and will transfer data from time to time.

It's the whims of the hardware that have me so confused.

The exact same code worked perfectly last night. In fact, it has worked for weeks.

The statement which I believe is causing the error is...
TheUsersChosenSerialPort.Open();​

Much like the other thread mentioned, the port is a BlueTooth connector, and Win'7 is reporting him okay, and so on.

I welcome responses from those with useful knowledge on this topic.

Hi: The same thing happened to me. You will have to call HP to have the warranty date adjusted.  If you live in the USA/Canada, Call this number and explain the situation.   1 800-474-6836  The customer services rep will send you a link to upload a copy of your invoice or sales receipt showing the purchase date. Once they get that, they will adjust the warranty start and end dates accordingly. I seem to recall they adjusted mine within 3 days of getting the receipt info I scanned to them.

I bougth the laptop about 6 months ago and now suddenly the screen died. When i contacted customer support a guy came to my house and examined the laptop. He then told that while the rest of my laptop is still under warranty the warranty of the screen has expired. How the hell is this possible that the rest of my laptop is covered in the warranty but the screen warranty expired?

Try this that I found it may work for you as I have had no trouble at all
***YOU MUST HAVE THE WINDOWS FIREWALL SERVICE RUNNING FOR THIS TO WORK***

1. Find C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe
2. Right-click and Run as Administrator
3. Copy this line:

4. Right-click in the Powershell window to Paste and then press Enter.
5. There is no need to restart. The fix should implement right away.

1. Right-click the Start button -> Click Run
2. Type Services.msc and press Enter

The same code works on Win7 and Win8.1 but Win10 doesn't allow me to do a hard-reset by sending vendor specific HCI command.

A year ago this month, June 2015, I PURCHASED a  M3800. I emphasize "purchase" as the laptop wasn't shipped until July 20th.    I have had recurring problems with start up from the get go - Sometimes it would start up, sometimes not.  Often times, removing any USB attachments and/or holding down the power button for 10 seconds resolved it.  While it was on, it worked like a champ. LOVED IT!  By Dec 2015 it died. Contacted Dell support, shipped the M3800 back and within 10 days, received my M3800 with a replacement motherboard.  Well, it's now June 21st, 11 days past my warranty  and guess what? DEAD ... Well, not entirely, the power button LED lights up momentarily when I press it.   I've tried multiple solutions, including removing the battery to eliminate static electricity, and still nothing. Any ideas would be seriously appreciated. Thanks heaps!

This can happen when the total path length of the source file
and the total path length of the destination file are greater than a given

Hi been awhile since I last posted. In the house we have a desktop and 2 laptops on the go in the house.The desktop is wired internet while the laptops are run on wifi.This worked fine until my isp UPC upgraded my internet speed from 50mb to 120mb.. The desktop and one of the laptops still works fine but the acus laptop has web access for between 20 mins to 45mins before the wifi drops off and becomes limited access. The wifi needs to be renabled to regain access to the wifi which lasts another small while until it gets limited access again.

The laptop specs are:
Acus K53e
Windows 7 home premium 64bit
intel Centrino N100 wifi adapter
Ram 6gig

At the moment its running for 30 mins then wifi cuts off for a few seconds before starting up again.

Hello recently my laptop Dell Inspiron running WinXP Media Edition s been failing it freezes anywhere from ten seconds to five minutes after I log in I m unable to install an antivirus because the laptop freezes during installation Safe Mode seems to be well safer although even so it has frozen I m unable to install the antivirus Kaspersky in Safe Mode because Windows Installer is disabled and none of the of short freezes Laptop after a time period solutions I ve found Laptop freezes after a short period of time online seem to do the trick And I suspect that even if i could get the installer to work it d freeze halfway through anyway I have no idea what s causing the freezing it might not even be a virus at all I ve noticed that the laptop always freezes at the quot Copying new files quot stage of the Kaspersky installation although whether that has something to do with my own timing or that procedure I can t guess Also the time that the computer did freeze in Safe Mode I was attempting to rename a file The computer is completely frozen Num Lock Scroll Lock can t be activated deactivated the mouse doesn t move etc I can t even shut down without either pulling the plug out or holding onto the power button nbsp

That model has been out for about three years? How long have you had your Inspiron 6400?

We need to know the configuration, including hard drive size, brand, free space, as well as memory installed.

It could be that the CPU cooling is too full of dust, hair, fiber, etc. to cool adequately... or that the hard drive is failing, or that you have inadequate memory. But it could simply be an infestation that needs to be cleaned out.

Have you tried re-enabling Windows Installer? Have you attempted to use MalwareBytes, SuperAntispyware, ComboFix, Windows Defender, Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor, or other top-flite spyware detectors and removers?

Check your BIOS settings and look for a settings about restart when error occur and try to disable it to see the blue screen error. You can also try login in safe mode, by pressing the F8 key while your computer is booting and check if the blue screen error still appear.

So, my Dad wanted my old laptop because I don't use it anymore. I factory defaulted it however, a message popups stating the following, "Sorry, this trial version expired on October 23, 2042." I'm not sure whether it's windows 7 or not. I really would like some help on this because there seems no other way around this without getting past this. I don't have the case anymore and the box.

I have run through the steps and attach the logs and Anti Virus has been replaced with one that works and isn't out of date.

I got message saying your window about to expire while turning . The pop up keep coming, I left my laptop on for sometime and it got lock when I tried to turn back on it wont, only the fan noise and led is on. What could be the issue please help.

On my end, I tried using the model as some may not be marketed on some regions using the international warranty look up page.  Listed location would include UK and you can call in Lenovo UK 0333-777-3991 for details .

Everytime i leave my laptop idle for around 1-2+ hours it would BSOD and shut down. This problem started occuring about 2 weeks ago. The only time i get the BSOD is when i leave it idle, no other random BSOD. Please help me take a look and solve this persistent problem. Thanks for the assistance in advance.

I bought this laptop on ebay new for my than Warranty and less laptop out only i the ran a year. had mother and had kept it in my closet for a few months I gave it to her as a gift and a few months later i was watching her use it and noticed she was repeatedly shutting down the laptop and turning it back on i asked why She said the internet wouldnt work unless she did that multiple times So i had a look at it and made sure all of the drivers were installed they were and counldnt find out why it was doing it other than a hardware issue possibly So i asked her where Warranty ran out and i only had the laptop less than a year. the warranty was tried to see if i could get hp to take it back but the warranty said it has expired She didnt use this thing for a year i kept it in my closet for months is there some way hp takes in certain cases and looks past the warranty date nbsp I cant really afford to buy her another nor can she and she is stuck with this nbsp thing The laptop is still in very good condition we just need the internet to work on it Is there anything that can be done

Hello I just bought a refurbished laptop from staples and i'm wondering, do I have a one year warranty. Where do I send the laptop if it is not working? My husband had the computer in Ecuador for a few months and said it had never worked properly and had been showing signs of a faulty drive. Hi. I have an ACER EXTENSA and want to upgrade its memory from 4GB to 8GB.But am unclear of laptop warranty. And if it has to be done by the ACER service department.

Hello everyone This is my first time posting on these boards and I was hoping someone might be able to give me some tips for troubleshooting an issue that popped up yesterday with my Alienware laptop It is days past it s extended -year warranty and Alienware would only refer me to other services to have it looked at such as a diagnosis for I have been building my own systems for years and years and I m hoping someone out there days Troubleshooting Alienware off (20 3-year Laptop warranty) :( might have some insight into ways i can troubleshoot my laptop so I can hopefully repair it myself and avoid the overpriced quot diagnosis quot fees Here are my specs Aurora m Processor AMD Turion Mobile ML GHz MHz FSB MB L Cache Operating System Office software not included Genuine Windows XP Professional Chassis amp quot WideUXGA x LCD with Clearview Technology - Conspiracy Blue Memory GB Dual Channel DDR SO-DIMM at MHz - x MB System Drive Single Drive Configuration - GB Serial ATA Gb s RPM w NCQ amp amp MB Cache Optical Drive x Dual Layer CD-RW DVD RW w Nero Software Video Graphics Troubleshooting Alienware Laptop (20 days off 3-year warranty) :( Card Dual MB NVidia GeForce Go GS - SLI Enabled Wireless Network Card Internal b g WiFi Card Warranty -Year AlienCare Toll-Free Phone Support w Onsite Service AlienRespawn AlienRespawn v Recovery Kit amp Windows XP Edition What happens is thus When I try to boot up the computer I can hear the fans HDD CD go on but there is nothing on the screen I tried plugging in other monitors to make sure that the onboard monitor hadn t randomly died or that the connection s were loose but I received no video on the additional monitor either When I usually load up the quot power quot button usually glows blue now it blinks orange off and on I don t hear any audio that would signify windows started but since I have a password on my windows log in it might be that it s simply not loading past this point I tried putting in my password to a blank screen and hitting enter but nothing happened My guess is it is either one of my video cards my motherboard or very possibly a HDD issue I m really doubting this last one Does anyone have any idea how I can troubleshoot my issue to help to nail-down what is going on Thank you so so very much for the help -K nbsp

Hi,

I just got a new intel Ultrabook off a tiny foreign co on Amazon; and I'm just using it for browsing the internet mostly, but the browsers keep crashing particularly when downloading (small) files like pictures.

I'm worried that the processor may have been tampered with or it's been infected/in a botnet. Can I do anything to check these things?

Also- if not any recommendations on cheap repair shops in London etc?

First, see if the slowness and crashing applications are due to a startup or service conflict: Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Keep only your antivirus software set to run on startup. Make sure the antivirus services and the startup software itself are selected to start on boot.

Hi,
 
I'm planning on buying a notebook. Being a computer tech, i'd like to open it up and take a look inside.... And in the future if there is any upgrade/maintanence to perform, i'd like to do it myself.
 
Will this void the warranty?
 
And if i say i didn't open it, is there any way dell will find out that i opened it?
 
Hopefully some Techie here has already done it and knows the answer......... :).

No, but I can only speak for the models I am familiar with (see signature). After reading tons of posts on this forum I never recall this being a problem on any model.

You will be given a case number and they will send you a POP email or Proof of purchase email. All you need to do is to make a screenshot or scan of the official reciept then send it to the email they are going to provide.
