The hinge on my much-loved Notebook has become 'loose'. Can I find repair help locally? Baltimore, MD area. What is the correct term(s) to use to describe the problem?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I sometimes wonder about techs using tools such as Seatools, HDD regenerator etc to diagnose/repair hard drives. Do any of these tools beat Chkdsk in any way?
(besides data recovery tools, I guess those have no match in Windows).
IMO, always use the tool provided by the vender. At the time you need this tool, you don't need a 3rd party screw-up to 'help you' really mess it up.
How to repair a corrupt 64gig flash drive
Hi, This really depends on how it has 'gone wrong'.
If it's a hardware failure then nothing you can do will sort it out.
But if it's a software/format failure then;
Save everything you want off of it with a program such as 'Recuva'.
Then Format it again by;
Right-click on the Flash drive's icon in 'explorer' or 'Computer',
Choose 'Properties' from the list,
Set the option of FAT 32,
Untick the 'Quick format' option, so that you are using the slower full format option.
Note that all the files that were on it will be gone, so be sure to save any valuable files first, if you can.
Earlier in the WoF I said the following:
I have a Corsair H80i in one computer, and a Prolimatech Samuel 17 in another computer CPU wise... The pump for my Arctic Accelero Hybrid for my GPU just failed last night. RIPClick to expand...
I decided to be more investigative, and opened the pump housing up, this is the horror I found:
And in the puddle of fluid that came out when I turned the pump over:
When I send power to the impeller it does freely spin (it is an induction pump). I'm thinking I can fix this sucker.
Anyone have and tips or suggestions for cleaning the system and then repriming it with fresh coolant?
Oh god... I tilted the radiator up to get more fluid out...
Error 0x4001100200001012 attempting to boot from the System Repair CD created on a Dell.
Apparently, this is specific to Dell and their Hack with DataSafe. You can use any System Repair CD generated on some other platform and it will give you access to restore your System Image. Google using that error code and you'll find lots of info. A Windows Install disk will work too.
I have a SR cd from another system and it works just fine :whew:
Don't get caught up a creek w/o a paddle - - if you plan on using a System Image to recover a system,
make sure you have the tools which will allow that image to be restored - - DON'T ASSUME!
background: I'm seeing SMART data that corroborates my laptop HD is degrading and I wanted to prove I could restore when the replacement arrives. As this Dell laptop is a pain to open up, I didn't want to go down in flames due to procedural errors or lack of familiarity. ( I'll never by another Dell )
Hello I have a touchsmart 300 and it has no sound from the speakers or headphone jack. I have tried the troubleshoot thing and it dont recognize anything wrong with them. please help. ive tried updating the driver and it says it is updated. so lost. thanks.
Did your pc have working sound when new?
Check the volume level, it's easy to turn it right down or mute it.
Check if the speakers are selected by going to the speaker icon in tray near the current time.
Right click on speaker icon, choose 'playback devices'.
A new box appears, with a speaker and it should have a green tick over it.
Right click on the icon and choose the option 'test', you should hear audio tones.
If you don't have a green tick, right click on icon and choose 'enable'.
I'm wondering whether I can overclock my ASUS R500VD notebook it has an INTEL sandy bridge core I5 3210M 2.50 GHz processor 4GB (max 8) of ram running puppy linux and windows xp home edition SP2 32 bit I have benchmarked it and ill email the results to anyone who replys and gives me their email and if you're wondering why I'm running windows xp read my article in the Alternative OS section of the forums called "If all else is too hard try puppy linux" bye
Nope sorry, the I5 3210M isn't OC enabled.
So, I noticed when gaming my computer would give of a permanent marker type smell, I thought maybe it was just getting hot, but as the smell got stronger I decided to see what was up, my friend told me to check the fans, and low and behold, a fan had stopped moving. (Pretty sure it's a GPU fan but not positive.) So I dust it out, because there was a ton of dust in it. And now it refuses to spin. help? I have pictures of the affected fan,it's the one of the bottom right.
Yeah that's a GPU fan, did you build the system yourself or was it premade? Check if it's still under warranty because if it is RMAing it will be easiest.
Guys I am looking for a new notebook, and I have general idea of what I want, but I am unable to find anything comparable so far (in reasonable price range, I.e. about 1,500$). Here are the specs which I've in mind:

GT760M (or similar range GPU)
SSD Boot drive + 1 TB HDD
15.x 1080p display
I have no preference for any brand, although, in last few years I've bought HP notebooks, generally because I have good connections there in case there is some issues

Hey Mark. I would connect to the Net by cable and allow it to get any OS updates and/or driver updates before I change any settings. While online, try to connect wirelessly to see if it finds any updates quicker.
I have a corrupted micro SD card. With huge trying I could to recover it's data using **recuva** tool, but now my files are corrupted also. They are video file with some famous extensions such as 3gp, mp4, flv, wmv, avi. My video file players are *VLC* and *Media player classic*. The *media player classic* says, "can not render the file" and *VLC* doesn't show anything.
Is there a way to repair these video files?
Don't think so. With the corrupted micro SD, there's no way to edit them to make them valid again - - sure hope you have another copy elsewhere (aka backups?)

Did this laptop come with Windows 7 Ultimate or did you purchase the OS and thus installed it?
Best bet for you is to get the HP Recovery CD or DVD for your model it will have all the drivers needed for your model. Basically it will install the HP Factory Windows 7 along with everything that's suppose to go with it. This process takes a few hours to run.
So contact HP Tech support tell them you need the Recovery CD/DVD for Model HP laptop. There is a cost for this so be aware. Then you won't have these issues saying graphic driver stopped because you don't have the correct drivers etc. The HP recovery will have all those installed.
Also with every HP system you get recovery with it but it's on the HD in it's own partition so whatever got installed might have blown out that partition and now you have an issue.

Hi I have an all in one hp touch smart 520 pc and I have had it for about 2 years now and it doesn't do well with games and I was wondering if I can install a new better graphics card? if so can you recommend me one ?
I did some research and I found this
1 PCI Express x16 module socket for MXM graphics card
2 PCI Express x1 mini card sockets
One PCI Express x16 Module (MXM) socket
MXM version: Type B
Power source = 19V
UMA or MXM Graphic card not exceeding 35W TDP
That is direct from HP. I asked today, because of your answers, HP support and I got the answer, that a Type II video card shut work as a upgrade on the inglewood motherboard. And don't worry. Bestbuy in Canada will upgrade the card in the store. But thank you anyway!
Yes, the MOTHERBOARD has those slots, no it is not upgradable after purchase, but good luck with that ]
apperantly the hp touchsmart 520 was never meant for gaming of high caliber and it cannot be upgraded :S
credits to that site.

Hi, I have run chkdsk couple times and keep getting about 4 bad sectors. With bad sectors I cannot backup my image on any backup program even windows. It will fail about half way through it. Does anyone know of a program that will bypass the bad sectors and back it up. Thanks. I am open for any solutions here.
Hi all just need a little help from you smarter people.
I have lots of devices on my wireless all work fine until this Hp notebook starts it seems to kick everything else off the network. So now called the death machine by all the family. Is this just a setting on the notebook that causes this? It happens on all networks that it joins to and stops as soon as the computer goes back into sleep.
Any help would be most appreciated
Likely you have an IP address conflict - - two machines with the same address.
This will cause problems with everything attached to that same router (wifi or wired).
Make sure ALL devices do not use manual settings but rather use automatic DHCP for both IP and DNS
I am currently looking for a cheap gaming advice gaming notebook Need for laptop It would be mainly used to play WOW and Starcraft II I don t necessary need something super Need advice for gaming notebook compact as long as it s easier to transport than a full desktop tower screen because I often go to LAN parties From what I have seen new gaming laptop aren t cheap I recently found a used one on Ebay so I am wondering if it s worth it or if you have any other suggestions Here is the link so you can check out the specs http www ebay ca itm Dell-XPS-M pt Laptops Nov amp hash item d e b It seems all I would need to do is to replace the video card There is a GTX SLI on Ebay for less than so I am thinking that for less than I Need advice for gaming notebook could get a decent gaming notebook do you think it s a good idea I have never installed a video card in a notebook before but I know how to install one in a desktop so I Need advice for gaming notebook m guessing it should not be that difficult Any advices Thank you nbsp
I don't think I could do that. Too much of a gamble.
You'd also need a new battery, the screen has issues that can't be fixed, and a couple of 'should be ok' comments in there too.
That's my two yen.
New system just built a week ago:
Asus P8Z77-V Pro
F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2 DDR3-1600 8GB(4GB*2)KIT CL9 1.25V
GIGABYTE GTX670 2GB OC PCI-E WINDFORCE3X GV-N670OC-2GD
OCZ Vector 2.5" 128GB SSD Indilinx Barefoot3 HD1237 VTR1-25SAT3-128G
The problem is, every 2nd or 3rd time I boot up I get a message by that white flag on the bottom right with a red X on it saying 'restart your PC to repair drive error (Important).
I have attached two screenshots at the bottom showing the messages I get within windows, then a short video of what happens when it reboots.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
I'm not familiar with SSDs. It is safe to run a check on it, and what software would you recommend?
UNfortunately I let a person use my EDUP Wireless USB Adapter & I believe the person removed it without using the safe to remove process or by shuting down the pc correctly. Is there "any" chance it can be repaired? I do have the CD that came with it.
I've tried reinstalling it on my pc where I've never had a problem with it in 4 years.
Needless to say I'm rather angry about it because her mother don't believe her daughter did it.
Well, I'm guessing it is not possible. I tried this http://www.ehow.com/how_6144867_fix-issues-usb-wireless-adapters.html
& although it seemed promising, it obviously didn't work.
Anybody else got any ideas?
I assembled a desktop maybe years ago the board finally went South It s an ASUS P C E 478 Pentium Need source for socket or IV repair motherboard motherboard uses a Pentium IV socket CPU dual channel DDR PC RAM - has slots I ve got modules for total gb RM I m not a gamer just fool around with home video amp pictures some online Need source for Pentium IV socket 478 motherboard or repair sports watch an old tv show surf the net simple things like that It s always been plenty fast for everything I do When it happened all the lights flashed rapidly and it beeped rapidly when I tried to start it Now the switch has no effect - the board powers up as soon as power is supplied to the machine Can t force quit the machine either Nothing on the monitor at all A Need source for Pentium IV socket 478 motherboard or repair tech shop checked it and said the board is bad Sounded like they checked it by swapping cpu s RAM etc I had tried a new battery first had hoped they would test the chipset etc but doesn t sound like they did much if any of those kinds of diagnostics I do have an ASUS setup disc I got with the board when I bought it that ASUS says I can use Need source for Pentium IV socket 478 motherboard or repair to reinstall the BIOS haven t tried that yet While I was poking around inside making sure there were no loose cables or other obvious simple problems I cleaned it The CPU heat sink came off the CPU so I have to get some of the heat sink grease and reattach it before I try to start it again Assuming I do need a new board I ve found that boards that will accept that old Pent IV and my ram are scarce So far just some real cheapies on Amazon and eBay Would like to find I e a refurbished direct replacement or at least something basically comparable Or even a reputable shop that may be able to repair the board if I send it to them Would much appreciate any leads or advice The machine serves my needs and I d like to avoid the cost of a new CPU and RAM Thanks nbsp
I see I failed to specify, but I need an ATX rather than a micro ATX. I did a quick search on the basic LGA 775 specs and the one I happened to see was a micro ATX, altho I imagine other forms were available?
If yours is an ATX, I'll very gratefully take you up on that.
You wouldn't happen to have a setup manual? I'm far from being very knowledgeable,
more of the typical "know enuf to get myself in trouble" level.
I would imagine I might be able to find and download a manual if you don't have one.
My zip is 89046, Searchlight NV. I'm here temporarily for a 2+ year solar-steam generating plant project, then RETIREMENT!!
Thanks so much!
Address removed for your safety. Note from mailpup: Give address in private "conversation" with Matthew.
I'd prefer FedEx ground, they deliver to me.
Let me know how much, throw in some extra for your packaging and time/trouble.
And how to send the money. If you do PayPal, add extra for their cut of course.
Or I can mail a Postal MO or whatever.
Not a huge rush, I can access my "civilian" email at work if I don't overdo it.
I'm using Windows 7 and a ASUS X54C Notebook.
While my laptop is charged, no matter how I shutdown, whether it be on start command or closing the lid, the laptop refuses to shut all the way off, the power just stays on. I already set the options to shut it down whether the power is being charged or not when closing the lid.
Try doing a factory restore, after backing up your important files
I'm using Windows 7, a ASUS X54C Notebook and a DLink WBR-1310 router.
For some reason when I reboot my notebook, the wireless compatibility doen't want to automatically connect to my wireless access point. I have to manually click the wireless icon on the task bar to let the troubleshooter connect my notebook to the internet.
I already have the options under properties and services.msc via WLAN AutoConfig enabled to connect automatically at start up, but that doesn't seem to help.
Anyone have any ideas?

I fixed a friends W7 wireless connection last week but don't remember the steps, good luck.
I have a HP Presario CQ62 notebook that just totally died.
I closed it up after using it normally, came back and opened the lid and it was dead. No lights, not even power supply indicator light. Nothing happens when the power button is pushed of course.
I thought and hoped it was a faulty power supply and a flat battery, but I have a spare power supply so this was able to be ruled out.
Not that it's relevant here, but it's running Windows 7 64 bit.
Anyone got any ideas where to look for a solution to this? As it won't fire up on battery or power it has to be after those.
Remove the memory and re install it... Remove the battery and try AC power only. With the battery out and AC out, hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Re install the battery and see if the laptop powers up
Hi, so I have a very basic Notebook very cheap MSI A6300 nothing amazing.
So any way It needed a wipe I did, and now it can't find its graphics card, it should say ATI Radeon HD 4270 but it just says Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.
I am thinking its come loose or its been hit or something, I have run MSI Live Update 5 with no hope. It can't find it either.
Should I take a look inside? (Never rlly messed with laptops/Notebooks before, I do all my work on a desktop)
If you need anymore information or specs then I will get them asap! =D
You might be just missing the driver for your graphics card, try searching Techspot (or Google) for "MSI A6300 drivers", download the the video drivers for your notebook.
Hope this helps.

Look on EBay for the exact motherboard. The part number is usually on a tag under or near the memory. The memory is under a panel at the bottom or under the keyboard. You can use the memory and CPU from the old board
This is an example:
I am having trouble fixing an HP G60 230CA Notebook PC. The Laptop uses a 32 bit Windows Vista OS. It takes about 4 min to Start up and it takes about 2 min to open or close any programs.
In safe mode it runs normally for about 45 sec then enters the same state as normal mode.
I removed the hard drive and used a SATA to USB wire to connect it to another PC to run Malware bytes. Malware Bytes detected and removed a trojan but the problem hasn't changed.
How ole is the computer. How old is the hard drive? How much memory is installed? What scans have you already run to search out the cause of the problem?
First thing I would do is save all my data and images to recoverable media, and run a clean re-install.
I was running Win XP which finally failed and I was able to enter in safe mode (only, no networking) and ran all the tests I could think of. Hard drive is ok and so I attempted to repair WinXP from the installation CD. However, the PC failed to shut down and restart so I eventually force closed it. Now it won't even load past the initial black windows screen, don't even get the option of going into safe mode.
Is there any way I (or someone) could access the hard drive to retrieve the data? I guess I could reinstall the OS but don't want to do that yet as I'll definitely lose the data.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Sure, there are many ways. Depending on what you want in the end decides how to proceed.
If you have a lot of space free on the drive, you could boot off a linux dvd and create a new partition. You'd have to shrink the existing, then make a new one. Then you could just copy over the data from the old one to the new one. Then reinstall windows onto the old partition, and copy your stuff back (then delete the partition and expand the remaining to fill the rest of the space).
You can also just boot off a linux disk and copy it to a thumb drive or whatever.
Or you could remove the hard drive and place it in another computer.
Also, I'm not convinced you lose the data if you install Windows again. I'm pretty sure you can install without formatting the drive. Your programs won't work, but it shouldn't overwrite any of your data. This is a non-ideal solution though.
I need some tips on my system rebuild I am a skilled modder repairer but this is my first motherboard cpu replace I have seen many northbridge types listed when PC rebuild/repair looking for motherboards but no mention of what northbridge type the processor is when looking at it I am PC rebuild/repair NOT dropping my OS I intend to get PC rebuild/repair the mobo gpu and ram up and bring the os up before cloning it to the replacement hdd Also the mobo I am about to list states it s dual channel memory but so is my current mobo and it has four cards so which is better four or two This PC is regularly used for watching videos and movies and playing games will be switching from console gaming with bethesda games to pc permanently Trying to keep the rebuild under tops not accounting for extended warranties however Yes Reusing all stock parts that I am not replacing will be posting replacements below Only accessories I am adding are a BT dongle and Micro usb adapter for turtle beach x and using PS controller on pc No parts purchased as of yet better to be patient and plan it out that rush in and srew something up Currently running Win Vista x and I will not up to win Have found a couple aftermarket cpu coolers but unsure which would be best to use I do like the blue led on the zalman but lighting isn t important as cooling Parts Below ZALMAN CNPS MAX-B mm Long life bearing CPU Cooler Blue LED or COOLER MASTER Hyper EVO RR- E- PK-R Continuous Direct Contact mm Sleeve CPU Cooler Compatible with latest Intel and AMD FM AM Intel Core i - K Sandy Bridge GHz GHz Turbo Boost LGA W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX I K ASUS ENGTX DCII DIS MD GeForce GTX Fermi MB -bit GDDR PCI Express x HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card CORSAIR Gaming Series GS W ATX V v SLI Ready CrossFire Ready PLUS Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply ASUS P Z -V PRO GEN LGA Intel Z HDMI SATA Gb s USB ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS CORSAIR Vengeance GB x GB -Pin DDR SDRAM DDR PC Desktop Memory Model CMZ GX M A C B or CORSAIR Vengeance GB x GB -Pin DDR SDRAM DDR PC Desktop Memory Model CMZ GX M A C Want to make a note I forgot I would love to get ahold of a new case if Asus has released it unsure of it s exact name but it is on the CG model desktop they announced in I have done some research and found that on a dual channel system running four sticks actually increases the latency due to increased load on the bus Solved that question SO in continuing the question strand How can I be certain that the northbridge type is the right one for processor Which Cpu heatsink will perform better fit better for this rebuild upgrade And lastly are there any compatibility issues I might have missed nbsp
If I remember correctly all Northbridge functions were consolidated in the CPUs beginning with the Sandy Bridge line so you should be good to go there.
My Problem is: i have a HP TouchSmart TX2 laptop. and when ever i shutdown my laptop i cant turn it on again. i need to hold on to the power button for about 30sec.
then i can turn it on. by now i still can use it. but it really makes me worried.
Model : HP TouchSmart TX2 s/t: tx2-1115au
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
Ram : 4GB from original
HDD : 320GB from original
Your computer might just be going into standby mode instead of actually powering down, check your shutdown settings.
Does anyone know a good brand for notebook cooling pads?
Im looking for one, and maybe you guys have one that you're very happy with?
Outstanding cooling pad.
Recently, my laptop (Compaq Presario CQ50) battery passed away and unfortunately, the day after, the same thing happened to my AC adapter. Actually, the adapter itself works perfectly, except for the socket inside the laptop.
It seems this part is loose and no power can now reach my laptop. I don't care running my laptop only plugged to the wall outlet since I'm using it only in the living room. It's old and the replacement battery is quite expensive (I could not charge the battery without a working ac adapter anyways).
I was wondering if it was possible to buy only the socket and also how to replace it?
I am trying to help a friend out He has a Presario F notebook part KC UA ABC that is running win ultimate retail It has stopped working When the notebook power supply is plugged in that blue light goes on and there is power Presario won't up F700 boot notebook to the notebook but there is nothing after that I can hear the computer trying to boot the fan is working and its a bit warm around that area but i think that might be normal I plugged in a known good external lcd but that didnt help But there might be a key to press like FN to get an external monitor to work i dont know in this case since its not my notebook He doesnt even get the bios info all he gets is a blank screen so maybe an external Presario F700 notebook won't boot up monitor wouldnt work either I should point out Presario F700 notebook won't boot up that when i attempt to boot this laptop i dont get any beeps at all Help would certainly be appreciated Thank You nbsphttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/presario-f700-notebook-wont-boot-up.171069/
my file system displays raw, it cannot be formatted,,
not accessible . how can i use this again?
ive searched solutions for this problem but everythng didnt worked.
ive tried the disk management method, tstdsk, chkdisk is not applicable
i also tried the easeus software, icare data recovery software, reclaimme, partition magi, killdisk, and many other recovery tools i found online.
can anyone help me what to do? pls help :dead:
thanks in advance
Could you tell us what flash drive you have? And how it got to be raw in the first place?
And are you sure repartitioning it doesn't work? If so then my guess is that it's probably corrupt. If you received it like this straight from the store then I would turn it back in for a refund and get a new one. Otherwise I'm curious as to how it got this way in the first place, as that may shed some light to a viable solution.

I'm looking for a little 10-inch laptop for schoolwork and browsing, not gaming or anything intense like that.
Looking for what recommended minimum specs I should be on the lookout for.
I'm considering this little Samsung 10.1" Netbook featuring Intel Atom N455 Processor (N145)
My local pc folks are selling it for $400 CAD tax included, including $73 upgrade from 1G ram to 4G.
I'd rather buy from a local store than purchase online, if not for reliability of purchase and continued support options.
What is the ratio between Canada and US when it comes to money? According to that link the system is on sale until 8/11 for $219.00.
The biggest issues for me would be that the Best Buy offer only has a) Windows 7 Starter installed; not even Home Premium, b) no need for 4 gigs if the operating system is only 32-bit because only a 64-bit OS will utilize 4 gigs and more RAM, c) the Intel Atom is slow.
So, IMO, it isn't worth $400 locally as is and again no need for 4 gigs if the OS is 32-bit. Shop around more and search for a Lenovo x120e system.
Im not very good with computers, I only really know how to turn it on and type.
I got a HP Pavilion dv4 1465dx notebook last year. The RAM is 4.00 GB, and the Harddrive is 194GB free of 286 GB. It uses Windows Vista.
My sister has all of Sims2 games and expansions.
I always try and diskcleanup and get rid of unneccessary things when I can, but ive always wanted to play games with my friends but couldnt since I got it and BEFORE my sis put sims on it. Often I feel like my older desktop is faster than this.
I was wondering if there was anything I can do? When i googled many people said 4.00 GB RAM was enough to play games so im not really sure why its so slow.
Download and run free Surperantispyware and tell us what it finds. What antivirus program is installed?

Hey Techspotters I recently acquired a new Compaq Presario CQ - SA notebook with a year warranty Problem is after two weeks the display appeared with vertical and cracked internally CQ56 notebook Compaq LCD 101SA horizontal white lines and in the top left hand corner a bright white and blue blobbed image appeared and has gotten bigger from top left heading to bottom right I immediately informed Compaq Compaq CQ56 101SA notebook cracked LCD internally HP who arranged to have my laptop collected and sent for repair under warranty I subsequently received a call from HP Engineering Dept that the LCD screen had been cracked inside there is no physical external damage Compaq CQ56 101SA notebook cracked LCD internally due to undue pressure or knock to the screen and that it was deemed as accidental damage and not covered under warranty Now I can categorically say that to my knowledge nothing untoward has happened to this laptop it is weeks old I open it and then I close it and it has had normal use for the weeks that i have had it HP wanted to fix it Compaq CQ56 101SA notebook cracked LCD internally or alternatively return it free of charge unfixed No amount of persuasive talk from me would change her mind so I opted to have the notebook returned to me Now I could fix this as a new LCD screen is relatively cheap to purchase - online but I fear that if I do this it will invalidate my year warranty Has anyone else had any similar issues with Compaq and HP notebooks or have I just been extremely unlucky here and suffered a night gremlin notebook attack I would very much appreciate advice on what my rights are or if anyone else has had similar with HP Compaq Many thanks for taking the time to read reply Regards nbsp
I've had to install a new lcd screen in a toshiba about 3 years ago. I was very careful to not leave striped screws or scratched paint near any of the screw holes. a year later my hdd died and my laptop was still under warranty( extended which i purchased) and they installed a new hdd.
That was a few years ago and a different company. I'm not sure about other experiences, but in mine I believe since I didn't visibly damage anything they couldn't have known if I opened it or not at any time.

Sounds like your hard drive has failed to me.
You need to look in the BIOS to see if it is detected.
With older Sony models, you pressed F1 as the laptop was powering up.

CPU motherboard for cost repairing a CPU socket on a Sandy Bridge motherboard Sadly i didnt know my motherboard had a damaged CPU socket until the reseller told me and therefore they also refused a refund wich also was the reason i sent it back to them in the first place same day as i recieved it when i later on read on hardware forums that intel recalled all Sandy Bridge motherboards Sadly these kinds of damages is not covered by the warranty and I have also Repair motherboard CPU socket - Whats the repair cost for Sandy Bridge? been told that i wont get a refund and its my word against their and really I dont see how I could have damaged the CPU socket when i didnt even had ordered a CPU yet But not much to do against a big company and therefore i would like to know what the cost is to repair a CPU socket on a motherboard I have read on some other forums like xtremesystems that moderators there telling that its about a cost on repairing or replacing the motherboard CPU socket and I would like anyone here to confirm this for me or what other kind of prices there is for repairs that is not covered by the warranty and sadly my reseller didnt accept the motherboard and told me i damaged it which i didnt but i cant proof that they are lying so Is it true that there is about a cost for repairing or replacing a CPU socket on a motherboard and if not what is the cost nbsphttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/repair-motherboard-cpu-socket-whats-the-repair-cost-for-sandy-bridge.161233/

Hi - I have a Gateway EC18 with a very loud fan and wouldn't you know it, the warranty just expired.
So I went to the gateway support site and typed in the serial number and looked at the vendors for parts but no fan is listed.
Where should I look for a replacement fan?
do you think this is what you are looking for?
There isn't any picture, but the model number matches up. I'm not sure how easy it will be to take apart. I have broken down a few laptops and they are complicated. In the mean time, I recommend you get a laptop cooling stand.
Okay so I'm not technologically savvy but I'm guessing to make most of the games that I download to actually run, I need a better graphics card?
Whenever I play games with decent to good graphics, my system just won't function right. They lag until my computer freezes and stuff. So I just wanna know what I can do to actually play games.

hello im new member to this forum.. i hope i will get a appropriate solution to my problem
The problem is my brand new laptop (acer d260) dont turn on.. its brand new. using it for first time. never switched on before.. dont even see the power light glowing after i plugin the batter charging Adapter..
Are you sure your wall socket is getting power?
So I am at my buddy's house this weekend out of town. His old computer is on the fritz and I quickly diagnose that the boot record is corrupt. He can't find his old windows XP installation disc.
I call up the closest repair shop to see if they can sell me an old copy. Instead the ***** repair guy at geeksquad tells me I need a new hard drive. I laughed after I hung up the phone.
I might have been born at night, but it wasn't last night.
my acer powered down by itself like the power had run out but it hadnt....so i had to force shutdown...since then it wont switch back on the connection light just flashes twice slowly instead of several times like normal and the screen remains black... i have tried all the remove battery and ac tricks and nothing is working ,,,,any ideas ?????????
Have you wiped the RAM and the deep sleep settings by unplugging it from the AC adapter and also removing the battery, then waiting half an hour?
Before going to work this morning I put my computer on hibernate, when I came back my wifi networking was down. It is not that I am connected to a network but cannot open internet, my wifi network does not start up. The little red light does not turn blue! I have no idea why it is not working, any suggestions appreciated.
Hey, reasons for the light not to turn blue could be a problem with the physical hardware itself, being that it somehow shorted or something along those lines.
Another reason could be that it is not being supplied power, once a computer goes into hibernation mode it is given the right to stop power to that device, and possibly once starting back up, there was no power given to the Wireless? Have you tried to shutdown the computer normally and try it again? Another reason would be that the wireless settings and everything are all controlled by a service, and maybe the service failed to start. Rather then get you to go to the exact spot and try and turn on the service, just restart the computer. If that doesn't work and you want to try and manually start the service, reply back that you would like to do so and I will try and step you through it.
Other things to try - Reinstall the drivers for the wireless adapter, you will need to go to HP's website, type in your DV9500 as well as the other numbers on the bottom of the laptop on a white sticker, located near your prodocut key usually...
if you are comfortable with opening the laptop up, on the bottom side of the laptop, one of the covers will likely have the wireless card in side, it is connected by 2 wires, a black and a white, if you go to take the card out remember where each cord goes. You can take the card out, boot up the computer, shut it down, reseat the card, and boot up the computer, see if anything comes up..
WARNING: If attempting to remove the wireless adapter card, please be aware that if the card is not damaged, you could damage the card, make sure you are grounded when working inside of the laptop, as well make sure that there is NO POWER to the laptop, this means Remove both the battery and the power cord..
Nothing else comes to mind of what it could be...
If you can't get it to work, try safe mode with networking, if still nothing, I would suggest to bring it to a shop to see if they have a way to test the physical card in a similar laptop or possibly have a new card to test in yours..
EDIT: This is something I found on the Mobile section of this forum where a fix was found on other HP Dv**** Models,
WARNING:Please read the full post that suggests the fix, as it does warn that this CAN cause further damage. This test raises the computers core temperature as well as other components to try and warm them up if there are any cold joints on it, But may damage components due to high temperatures. WARNING
i have an hp pavillion dv 6 entertainment notebook ? can i enhance it with new 3 d card?? it has a built it mobile chip set !
General speaking, you cannot upgrade the video card or GPU in a laptop.
I have a Dell Inspiron that was dropped about a year ago and it hasn t really been right since The d c jack was loose after the fall and it eventually got to where it wouldn t power up at DC jack AC after on not working repair Inspiron Dell all I sent Dell Inspiron not working on AC after DC jack repair it out to a shop that specializes in D C jack repairs and it came back Dell Inspiron not working on AC after DC jack repair after presumably being repaired The battery was totally charged when I got it back and the machine did start up with Dell Inspiron not working on AC after DC jack repair the A C adapter plugged in However it got as far as the screen with the Windows XP logo and the screen went blank although the battery light was still on I tried starting it back up again without the A C adapter This time it booted up like it was supposed to and reached the desktop but was running very sluggishly When I plugged the A C adapter back in the screen went blank once again I m beginning to wonder if the problem was totally a d c jack issue or if horrors it s a motherboard issue It does still seem to be charging with the A C adapter Any thoughts nbsp
I'd say it is likely the fall did more damage than just to the jack. The jack was something easy to see but internally there could more damage.
i am running win xp and using a dsl modem...i reset it lately

I have an Asus X56TA laptop. It worked like a charm until yesterday, when suddenly, without any warnings, my left hinge just broke off when I was closing the screen.
It seems that the hinge just got _completely_ stuck. Really, like it was made of solid concrete. So when the screen worked as a lever, it easily broke off.
To illustrate my problem, here are some pictures:
Anyone has any tips what to do with this? Is there any chance of making the hinge work again? If yes, I thought of using some very powerful glue to "repair" the hinge. The plastic cover is 100% OK, so I only need some usability
I also found a brand new hinge for my notebook model on eBay. Is it possible to remove the broken hinge and install the new one?
Thanks in advance for all the tips.
i borrowed my cousin my noebook, when it came back it does not operate. when i power it on the power light shows up but nothing shows on the screen, i used RS 232 to connect to external monitor but still nothing is displayed. he told me he properly shut down the machine before he returned it to me, but it looks like he is not telling me the truth. please help.
probably opened the machine and messed up with the video card.
Wondering if anyone can help me?
My old notebook's (XP) screen died, so I bought a new ASUS one running Windows 7.
I put the old notebook's hdd into a USB to IDE enclosure hoping to get bookmarks, music etc off it.
When it's plugged in, "USB to IDE" shows up in devices, and it is also an option when disconnecting USB devices, but I can't see the drive in order to access it in "Computer" and see what's on it.
Anyone know how to get the stuff off the old drive?
Look in Disk Management to see if the old drive is visible there. It may just need to have a drive letter assigned to it.
We have a laptop that we use downstairs that died and needs to be replaced. I have been looking at netbooks my husband at notebooks.
What we really need it to do is:
connect to our network
I would like to run victuals on it but not a deal breaker
use for very lite travel mostly by car
lite pic editing (resizing and little things)
I am thinking a netbook would be perfect, won't take up too much space and easy to travel with ( and...well they are so darnn cute!) Hubby wants small notebook. His one complaint is he has heard the video is bad on netbooks. I have seen a few and don't think it is too bad, I mean it isn't great for watching movies but how often does anyone watch a movie on a computer?
Anyone have an opinion net or note? Any bad net experiences?
I own two myself but I am having issues with ASUS one. The one I am not having issue is ACER. Both are pretty much the same in features. They can run Office 2010, Play Youtube Videos up to 480p. Best you get one with 802.11g,n and the latest N450 suppose to handle HD better. Slight improvement from last year models. Best to get 2GB of RAM 160GB is standard most of 250GB. Small screen though to view though lite enough to carry anywhere. if you get one the battery with 6 to 9 cell is better than 3 cell. Otherwise you'll have to keep it plugged in for power to have it charged.
hi well i im planing to buy a logitech x540 sound system but it needs a sound card 5.1 or somthing i use vista and i have a emachines e625 laptop can please tell me how to find out or what it is im a noob i only know the basics but this is the first time i have really wonderd about my sound card thanks for your help and support

on your laptop you got only one output and one input
the output is for headset and may be used with stereo speakers, or 2.1 system, means there are 2 speakers for left and right and a sub.
but now comes your problem.
what you are plannig to buy is a 5.1 speaker system and means it got 5 speakers and a sub.
that means it have more than one connector. it haves tree connectors:
one for sub and the center speaker,
one for the front speakers left and right,
and the last one for the rear speakers left and right.
you will need a 5.1 usb sound card if you still want to have the logitech x540 speaker system and use it on you're laptop.
So my laptop can't boot...or it can't even get the power on, the "power" / "charging" light blinks 8 times and nothing...
where can I find some instructions or do someone know what's the problem?
Did you check the HP forum?
So I'm having problems installing Windows XP on my HP laptop.
Thew windows setups says that it can't find a hdd?! -same **** that the bios says
The only little thingy with it is that the laptop can boot from the hdd with vista...so why
can't it find the hdd?!
I have tried with an other hdd and there is still the same problem :/
So what to do?
Try resetting the bios to its default settings, or even try a bios update, using a USB stick
I have an HP Pavilion dv5000 CTO Notebook. It had been working pretty good for a while and all of a sudden, I picked up a virus. I got rid of the virus but after a few reboots, I notice I could not evern get to the Windows XP splash screen without it freezing. I've tried hitting F8 to login to Safe mode. I have tried putting in my recovery CD. Nothing works. It freezes and I am forced to do a hard shut down and start all over again. I am taking any and all suggestions (that make sense) at this point. Thanks in advance
laptops are notoriously hard to pinpoint a fault with, from what you say it sounds like a HDD issue,
download the makers test tool and run checks on the drive, it may be coincidental that the virus hit at the same time the drive was on its way out.
Yes the laptop will look for the HDD before booting from a cd/dvd and will freeze if it cant find it...
Calling all experienced techs/ I need you! motherboard repair
I hope someone can help me I have a vaio pgn s580 series and during hardrive replacement the plastic piece that connects to motherboard came completley off exposing the 4 pins or connector contacts I thought i could just put them back on however i broke the one off completely and Im so bummed is there any way i can work around that i still have plug . or is just smarter to use and external hd or can I use the dvd connection with right adapter. I hate to think that my vaio is toast calling all experience work arounders
being an "experienced hacker" has nothing to do with your motherboard. you might be able to use an external hdd for your os but im not sure. i have never do that before

Hello, at Christmas i bought a notebook PC. It had features like a webcam, and they did not work. So we took it back and bought a hp pavilion dv6 PC. My browsing history is deleted, i have Norton if that could be the case but i have the "NEW" Norton which is suppose to be better the sales man told me. Please post a comment when you get a chance .
Please follow these 8-steps and post all the logs here for review and further advice.
I am looking to repair laptops. I would like to also go to the motherboard component level. I am getting old so would not want to spend school time. Right now I am just above a novice laptop repair person,
I know some of you might say that motherboard repair is too costly. Well I am not in business of repairing. I just help friends, family..... and my father-in-law. :;O(
Can you suggest good books, dvd's, online coarses...
Check this site out hope it will be of any help to you.
This laptop came with home basic - but the install is in such a state. I want to reinstall it. Unfortunatley I don't have a home basic install DVD and the recovery partition has been deleted.
I was trying to install xp - but it blue screens - there is no option in the bios for AHCI - which usually does the trick. Interestingly the bois lists the HDD as IDE but per the gateway web site this model has a PATA hard drive ? (confused)
So does anybody have any idea how I can install xp pro on this Laptop.
Or does anyone know where I can get a copy of home basic - as I have a valid license key ?
If you are reinstalling it would be good idea to delete your old partition; then create a new one/format it during xp setup and reinstall. If there is no hardware related issue then this should work. Goodluck
I just joined Techspot. Lot of interesting topics!!
My Laptop crashed last evening, i was trying to repair windows xp, but not able to repair it, i was successfull upto the read and accept the windows xp Liscensing agreement.
When i hit F8 to confirm, it takes me to the next screen, where it states select the windows XP installation to repair. In there i dont get the C:\WINDOWS "Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
Instead of that i get all the partitions(which treats as a new installation).
Can anyone please suggest a way to repair my windows xp, i have got lot of data stored in the hard disk so still looking for options to repair rather than to reformat.
Suggestions will reali help.
get a recovery disk and do a system recovery(from disk)
i need to upgrade my notebook from gateway its a solo2500
What is the current configuration? Particularly, how much memory do you have?
I have a cnmbook, I just recently charged the screen, when i switched it on the screen is just white with no graphics, I have many of these mini book, the ones that are fully working I taken out the screen's when I put them back they all appear to be white screens, am not sure what it is, I tried unplugging the cables, dose anyone know any thing about this model and how I can resolve the problem
In any case - you have a no POST issue?
Hy, I have now spend more then 20 hours searching for a solution to reset my bios password. I forgot the password as it my old laptop and I need to login to bios to adjust few things. First thing I did was pulling out the cmos battery, the date and time is reset but bios password survives. I tried unlock 6 based on my system hash code 03377 with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestion what else could I do ?
There is a password that cannot be reset by normal means built into the CMOS as an anti-theft measure. There are options on how to reset this password but it is tricky. The best thing you can do is to contact HP support to get it reset.
My almost 3 year old Asus X52 F3SV Notebook suddenly froze and shut itself down today. It will not boot past the 'Asus' logo screen. The furthest it got was 'loading windows', but quickly rebooted once that screen showed up.
It has been running quite hot lately, but i cleaned the fan out last weekend, and it had been running without problem since then.
I'm running Windows Vista Premium, with no other real problems until now, with up to date windows updates and regular Spybot and anti-virus scans.
There were random multicoloured lines running through the Asus screen on the first reboot after freezing. Could it be my graphics card? (Nvidia 8600m). I did not hear any crackling/popping sounds, so I really hope it's not dead yet.
I've looked around these forums, but couldn't find a similar problem/solution.
Try running Bios defaults
This settings area can be called:
even just Setup
You can enter it by pressing the keyboard key that is displayed on your screen when first turning on your computer
A Fn Button like F1, or F2, or F10 or some other Fn key
(whatever the computer states on screen when you first turn on your computer)
Once in Bios Setup, locate Setup Defaults (sometimes called Optimized Defaults)
Apply it, then Save and Exit Bios Settings (which is usually F10, but it will tell you in the Bios Settings screen)
If that doesn't help try reming and re-seating your Ram cards (even your hard drive)
You can download your Manual to find the locations of these components, but they are usually located under the laptop, under the covers
If it is your Video card (onboard) then that was be a big concern
You may need to locate the disassemble guide online, then blow out all internal dust
It may also require a CheckDisk scan
You can read HERE on how to do that outside Windows
Hello I m in the market for a new PC laptop and I m curious about my options for the -- question new graphics cards about Getting notebook graphics card The laptop I m getting will be high-end around to most Getting new notebook -- question about graphics cards likely and of all the sites I ve checked out mainly HP Sony and Dell the best graphics card that I ve seen available for any notebook is the GB Nvidia GeForce GT M there s also the GB ATI Mobility Radeon but I ve read that the GB GeForce is better So my question is -- is the GB GeForce the best graphics card out there that a notebook PC can use or are there better ones that I could buy separately and install myself or have someone install If so I have two other questions First what is Getting new notebook -- question about graphics cards the best or some of the best graphics cards out there that I could buy and have installed on my laptop when I get it and where can I find them Second how would I go about having the graphics card that I purchased separately installed Could I do it myself -- remove the one the came with the laptop and install the one I bought separately or can you install more than one on a single laptop Or would I have to take it to a shop to have them install it for me Any help regarding all or any of these questions will be very very much appreciated Thanks in advance nbsp
I would suggest checking out Alienware (http://www.alienware.com). They are probably the most well known power-house computer manufacture. Check out their M17X laptop and all of the upgrade options.
With regard to installing your own graphics card, I think it really depends on the laptop you get, and from who. A lot of companies are making it easier to get at certain laptop parts, with individual panels on the bottom. I know it's often pretty easy to swap out RAM and I think even hard drives, but I'm not too sure about graphics cards.
Find a laptop you like, and maybe check out some articles about it on the web, or possibly some youtube videos. Many reviewers (including here on Techspot) will give you a picture or two of the bottom, and show you how accessible things are.
I know this didn't fully answer your question, but I hope it helped some
Hello I m in the process of searching for a new PC notebook I m in the market for a to inch display and I ve come across a couple laptops that mention having an quot extra-wide quot display or a quot -degree ultra-wide viewing angle quot and things to that effect I wanted to ask some questions about this Does this extra-wide display entail a better picture or resolution or something like that or is it just wider Will an extra-wide display like this make widescreen bars the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen when watching a movie more likely Will the wider display cause these bars to be bigger or appear more often on movies or games or anything else where they wouldn t have on a regular width display My computer will have a - inch display it will be p and will be Need notebook help "extra-wide" displays with PC Blu-ray enabled I m very concerned with getting the best picture possible so I d like to know if the extra-wide display will contribute to that but I m also heavily Need help with "extra-wide" PC notebook displays annoyed by widescreen bars at the top and bottom of my movies and whatnot so if the primary effect of the extra-wide display is simply a wider screen that will have more bars more often then I d like to know that Any help here is greatly appreciated Thanks in advance nbsp
It really depends as much on the graphics card as the screen itself, and there is no reliable way to know. You have to see it setup and play with the display settings.
However, If you select a true high end laptop should be fine. Others will make the images look stretched, but user quickly get used to it. One would think that 1080p would be a guarantee of good screen performance, but it is not.
If you are getting a computer that is in the upper third of its price and model range, you usually get the good screen combination in my experience... HP, Dell, Sony, and Lenovo anyway. You will have to avoid budget laptops.
I tried to install windows onto my laptop. It went through the set up process, but when it got to the install part, I got an error message stating that Windows could not find a HDD installed on my computer. So, thinking something was wrong with the HDD, I bought a new Wester Digital HDD. After installing the new HDD, I again tried installing windows, with the same outcome. Someone has told me that Compaq is bad about putting "blinder" codes in their BIOS to hide the HDD from being overwritten. I called Compaq Tech Support, but because my warranty is out, they wanted an arm and a leg to "help". Is there any truth to this? Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
If this is a SATA hard drive, you need to install SATA controller drivers at the F6 prompt. Since this procedure needs a floppy drive and you probably don't have one, go into the BIOS and see if you can change the controller from SATA or AHCI mode to IDE mode. If have this option, then Setup should continue.
HP DV6000 notebook,
has a nvidia go 7200 vid card
was having issues with secondary monitor, so went to reinstall the drivers. a bunch of posts suggested using these custom video drivers from http://www.tweakforce.com and i foolishly figured it couldn't break anything.
Restarted after install to no image and post beeps: one long and 3 short which im assuming is something video related.
I pulled the hd figuring i would just delete the driver files, but even with the hd unplugged i get the same beep which leads me to believe that the driver install somehow altered the bios.
Suggestions? i don't even know a way to reset a notebook bios.
I should note that i think it had a phoenix bios, though not 100%
I am working on a HP laptop with a Wireless-G Notebook Adapter. It shows I am connected to a wireless network. The lights are on on the card its self but I can not connect to the internet. The laptop is running XP. Any help would be great.
What encryption are you using on your router?
Is there any messages in the system tray like "limited or no connectivity"?
What router are you using?

Nice machine and configuration.
I would first try removing two memory modules, and attempting a boot with the third.. then if that doesn't work, change modules until you have tried all three.
It is difficult to trouble-shoot a machine like that... but we are seeing a LOT of ealy failures in the large laptops hard drives from 250 GB to 500 GB, so suspect that your hard drive might be bad. A good test would be to try any other known good hard drive from 80 GB on up to 500 GB... can you borrow one, then try to format and install it.
If still dead when you change memory and hard drive, it is time to get it back to HP for warranty work.
Anything you do that is not memory and not a hard drive will void your warranty.
Hi and let me just thank anyone who reads this beforehand I recently purchased a Gateway P- u laptop Operating System Windows Vista Home Premium Build Service Pack vistasp gdr - System Manufacturer Gateway BIOS Ver PARTTBL Processor Intel R Core TM Duo CPU P GHz CPUs GHz Memory MB RAM Page File MB used MB available Harddrive Model Hitachi HTS L error? - drive hard hangs randomly Notebook A It was a dream for the first or so days One time I was drain testing the battery and the computer shut itself off due to a dead battery Notebook randomly hangs - hard drive error? I mistakenly thought Vista would automatically put it to sleep or something I plugged it in and everything was good to go Later that night or the next day my computer crashed I did not find the reason but the following day when I tried to turn it back on I had to go through the quot repair your computer quot option and everything seemed fixed Later I got a Lexmark X printer and after installing the software my computer refused to work It booted once but hung within a minute of logging in and after that I received a system service exception x B error for all options repair normal boot last working configuration safe boot Finally I had to use my recovery disk to get it working and upon installing the software again I thought it was causing problems so I entered safe mode and removed it Two days later and I m still having problems with hanging except now I can hear my harddrive behaving strangely When I was using AVG to scan my computer it hung and I had to restart Using CHKDSK it repaired some files including an avg log but it froze at stage at I forced shutdown and tried again and it froze at the same empty sector I m logged on again and everything seems to work but occasionally my drive would make these repetitive clicking noises and then go silent and my harddrive usage light will just light periodically The computer is hung at that point and I can still move my mouse but that s it I can t go to repair your computer option when booting up because I get the system service exception Speedfan s SMART analysis says my drive is healthy and so does Vista s Computer Management but I m at a loss as to what to do - how can I tell if its a hardware failure for sure Also I haven t been able to get iTunes to detect my iPhone after I used Gateway Recovery not sure if that has any correlation Thanks in advance and sorry about the lengthy post nbsp
Bad drives are not "unheard of".
I once bought a laptop where the hard-drive crashed in a matter of two weeks...
the seller just replaced my computer with a new one.
Sounds like you are still under warranty. I would suggest that as your first option.
Back up your data files, if you can...
Something like Apricorn's utility -might- help you, even if you cannot recover data through other means.
My 127GB usb key stopped working when a format process was interupted.now, though visible in windows explorer, i can't open or format it.a message pops up asking that i should connect the device. Also, the MBR has been lost and the drive detailed properties display 0 MB for its capacity, unallocated and reserved space.
SOME ONE SHOULD PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS STUFF.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELPFUL POSTS
"Also, the MBR has been lost and the drive detailed properties display 0 MB for its capacity, unallocated and reserved space."
That is bad, however, a complete format should fix it.
Google and download HP USB format utility, try formatting with that.
What brand and model is your flash drive?
My "quotes" button is missing O.O.
Here's the issue: I have a 2004 Emachine, T2642. I haven't used it for 2 years because its broken, but now I'm taking a PC repair course and would like to try to fix it. Very early in the lessons for the course, btw.
The problem is, when I hook it all up and plug in the power cord, the green power light on front of the tower is already on and doesn't turn off when I hold it for many seconds. Even tho the green light is on, nothing at all appears on the monitor.
Any solutions? Thanks.
alright man lets see if i can help.
take off your side panel,
and check that everything is connected and seated correctly,
such as cables plugged in right(the cable connected to the motherboard), ram seated correctly, hardrive fully connected.
This might sound silly but I am being serious. I am currently learning to upgrade and repair laptops (self thought) and I would like to get an old laptop, one that no one wants or can repair. Does anyone know where I can get such thing? I want it to disassemble and reassemble (just for practice). I need to be able to pull apart a computer without breaking anything, and put it back together without missing a part. Thanks in advance, and it's fine if you can't help.
e-bay quite often has laptops sold as for spare/repairs.
one of my fans cuts off after 4 seconds and zv5000 pavilion will not boot. How much to fix fan??
Is it just the fan cutting out or does the whole machine turn off as well?
Do you see anything on the screen at all in the couple of seconds it stays on?
I have a LaCie 500gb external harddrive that I use to back up my laptop and store large files. It has its own power supply and connects to my computer by USB. The other day I plugged it into the power supply and noticed it wouldnt turn on and there was an electrical burning smell coming from the plug on the harddrive. Is it possible that it is just the plug damaged and my data is still ok? Can I remove the data from the harddrive somehow? Would it be worth trying to get someone to repair it or should I just buy a new one?
I don't know alot about this sort of thing and any help is greatly appreciated!
Yes Ur Harddisk Is Damaged Nothing will be retrive from It

i once spilt a glass of baileys onto th keyboard of an inspiron 1300, i took the KB off and soaked it in hot soapy water then rinsed it out and left it to dry, worked fine when it was put back on....
I often scrub dirty keyboards in a bath of hot soapy water and leave to dry, makes em nice and clean and they always work.
