I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The left Hinge is pulling the upper portion of my wife's computer off , as the very heavy touchscreen applied too much torque to the notebook case . I have read in the forums that is is a very common issue with this model. My il-laws bought the same computer for my wife and her brother, and the same thing has happened to both computers. Is there any way this can be fixed? I have seen in the forums than many other people have this same problem, but I have not seen anyone post anything about any solutions to it. Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

A:HP Envy Touchsmart Notebook M7 J010 Left Hinge problem

As you said this is a common problem with HP Envy's. I pulled apart my laptop to replace the fan in it and having the same problem as you j decided to take a look at it. What it was was a broken Skrew Hole (Sorry I'm having a mind blank) but where the skrew connects to the motherboard has been broken. This is a small peice of plastic. There is no real way of fixing this however there is actually a skrew right beside that one. Apart from when your moving the screen and the look of it, it woint damage your computer and nothing will come falling off it e.g screen, surround. I'm sorry but that's all the information/advice I can offer

I don't see any minidump file in the one you just post. Please go to C:Window and make sure that the minidump folder is there with .dmp file in it. You might want to check if you have set system to create minidump file.

Hi,

I've included all the files you have asked for to diagnose the problem.

The laptop had Windows 7 Home, but then I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) three days ago (through Windows Anytime Upgrade) thinking it would eliminate the BsOD. It hasn't. This began happening recently, but now it happens frequently. I have not installed any new programs when this problem began. My version of Windows Ultimate is a full retail version I purchased.

I purchased this laptop from my brother, but it shouldn't be more than a year old.

Thank you for your help,
Myers

You have three glaring problems

Your Avast , old drivers, and Zone Alarm (NETIO.sys).
I would remove avast and replace with Microsoft security essentials and the win 7 firewall. Remove Zone alarm.

The most recent crash was probably caused by an interaction between ZAP and Avast.

I've had my HP Envy Notebook for only 3 years. I paid $1300 for it and have taken great care of it. A few weeks ago, I noticed the left hinge rotating differently than the right one. A few days ago I noticed that the rotation was getting worse and I also noticed that the bottom of the case was separating from the keyboard deck at the left corner near the hinge. After reseraching this issue, it appears that the hinge on my laptop is broken and that this is a big design issue with HP laptops. HP should pay for this. I should not have to pay for this especially since the problem is widespread and pervasive. Laptop cases should be sturdy enough to hold up for the life of the computer.  I need help from HP and I want them to pay for this.

Sadly, my HP ENVY m6-1350sf Notebook PC that I purchased in April 2014 with Best Buy needs the right hinge I believe needs replacing and now the casing on the screen is starting to pull apart. Obviously I'm way beyond the warranty but I am willing to pay HP to fix my poor laptop whom has travelled all around the world with me since it was brand new. I don't trust Geek Squad to fix it locally - they ruined my Lenovo in 2012 when the casing started coming apart by super gluing it back together. Please help ...

I have been informed that this is a known issue to HP and have had my notebook repaired twice previously once under warranty and the other time outside of warranty HP were really good about fixing Pavilion Hinge Broken Notebook DV6 the issue for me Pavilion DV6 Notebook Broken Hinge for free even had a local HP service company do all the work The hinge has now broken again third time in years I have found a forum that is looking at a class action against HP regarding this default apparently the issue isn't restricted just to the DV I am not looking at anything so extreme nbsp I was wondering if HP would just continue to fix the problem with my notebook or make any other offer Not sure I would want another HP notebook though nbsp the overheating short battery life and drain and broken hinge have all really made this notebook anything but portable or reliable - and that it isn't confined to the DV makes me very weary of buying any other HP notebook in the future Would they possibly look at giving me a refund part for the notebook I just don't want to have to take it in to get fixed every months or so most others are reporting similar time periods for the broken hinges Opinions nbsp Will give them a call tomorrow too Just sick of these issues I bought HP expecting high quality and competency they have the name and the premium price their product the DV has really disappointed me

A:Pavilion DV6 Notebook Broken Hinge

I am having the same issue and mine wasn't under warranty so I called hp parts store and they charged me $109 for a new bottom bezel since the hinge tore the bezel apart. I have been using hp for years but if this is a known issue I am very upset at having to pay this much to replace it.  The computer was never dropped and it busted through the bottom case suring normal usage.   I think hp should stand by this problem since it is a known issue and refund me for the cost of the part.  Also I see the left side still doesn't sit as flush as the right side and I think I'm going to be in the same boat as the previous poster and it's just a matter of time before it happens again. Very disappointed in hp on this.

Hi, When opening my notebook this afternoon to find something on the internet, I noticed that the top cover had a crack (new since earlier this morning). It is close to the hinge on the right-hand side. The top cover opens up when moving the lid now, so it should be fixed before there is any more damage. Please advise my options. Thank you

My son's notebook screen started coming apart at the corner and I found that the VERY THIN long arm on the hinge had snapped and the cover had broken where the brass inserts go into the lid. All of the other hinge screws are loose and this thing is about to come apart completely. It's out of warranty, but from reading elsewhere on this forum it appears that this was a manufacturing defect and HP is continuing to fix it. Hopefully that is still the case and someone from HP can get in touch with me. Thanks.

I bought my envy j115tx 15" touchsmart end of Aug 2014 . Its nearly 4 months old and recently the left hinge on my laptop has dropped out of position and has pushed the back casing of the laptop out, disrupting one of the fans.It has not been dropped. I noticed it had become creeky when opening the lid of the laptop, I can see the back casing popping out when opening the the lid and the Kensington lock is out of alignment (as it pops down with the back casing) Been using HP servers at work and recomended but this is my first HP product for personal use and the hinge design seems to be a serious flaw here. Need a solution guys... have read similar posts about same issue..whats going on?

This laptop currently has a Mobile DualCore Intel Core i3-3130M, 2566 MHz processor and I am looking to upgrade it to the Intel Core i7-4702MQ 2.20 GHz processor (Spares# 723522-001). It is listed in the service manual however I am unsure as to if the System Board will support it. The System Board is the original as is the processor and what makes me unsure is that the current processor (i3) is a FCPGA988 socket and the new one (i7) is a FCPGA946. Does anybody know where I can find more information on this? Also, if it requires a MB upgrade, does anybody know which ones will work in this chassis?Any help is appreciated! Thanks! ~DT

Hello! All 2.5 inch SSDs should fit your laptop if you are replacing just the 750GB unit. You may need to use a special adaptor to secure the SSD depending on what thickness it is, but rest assured, most SSD manufacturers include these.

My daughter's HP Pavilion 15-p051us notebood developed pretty severe cracking around one of the hinge locations. In looking at this, the cover doesn't seem strong enough to transfer the load of repeated opening and closing to the hinges over the life of the product. Also, the hinges seem as though they may be somewhat 'tight' as far as force needed to open the cover. Have there been other reported problems like this and/or any kind of recall that deals with beefing up the cover in the hinge areas ? Thank you

Help my left hinge is broken like so many others and I'm out of warranty! I just spent 2 hours on the phone with HP only to discover I will be charged $220!! It's clearly a design error since it's happened to literally hundreds of others with this computer! There needs to be a recall it's not fair to have to pay for something that I've never dropped, etc. I've also read where some have gotten theirs repaired free of charge without being covered under warranty

The warranty has ran out on my M6 laptop. A little over a year after it ran out, the left plastic hinge part of the frame began to crack and break due to the pressure caused by opening the laptop. While looking for replacement screen bezels online, I noticed that this was a common problem for this specific laptop. Is there a way around the expired warranty for this problem? I am having a hard time finding the replacement part, and I am afraid the same problem will just continue to happen again over time. Having the plastic part broken won't allow the screen to open without risking cracking the sceen. What are my options and who can I talk to? I'm a college student so this is sort of an inconvenience...My warranty ran out 9/10/2013 and it began breaking January 2015. Thanks

I didn't really notice this problem until a few months after having this computer I have been making bi-weekly payments on this wonderful laptop since fall of last year through a local Circuit World I soon started to notice that even if I opened the laptop slowly or gently there was this awful cracking noise coming from the computer I had gotten used to it and assumed it was a minor thing as I have experienced with other laptops in the past It wasn't until I had run my hand over the left corner of the laptop that I noticed that the bottom cover had been starting to pop out or at least not connect itself correctly to the top cover as the right side did nbsp nbsp I have never once damaged this laptop via tossing dropping or rough handling This computer is very expensive and takes a lot from my budget so I have made sure to take the most absolute delicate care Cover Bottom Hinge of Left "Popping" Envy 17 HP Notebook an of this Left Hinge of an HP Envy 17 Notebook "Popping" Bottom Cover computer including handling and virus protection nbsp Unfortunately with this computer now being excessively harder to open than it should and the damage that I'm afraid this left hinge is causing it has become more than just a little problem to me and I fear that it will only worsen over time I've noticed that in another forum a customer had their HP ENVY replaced but I'm wary that I cannot recieve the same treatment because of my purchase throught Circuit World nbsp I will talk to the employees at Circuit World about getting it fixed or getting a replacement if that applies to me but for now I'm looking to see if there is a simple easy fix to this problem at least one that could save time or money because the left hinge problem seems relatively easy to fix I'm just not going to take chances with damages to my own computer This also seems to be a problem that isn't solely happening to me but very many other HP ENVY owners Thank you

Bill_Ving Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about wireless networking poor performance and wanted to help. My immediate guess is that you might have mixed-mode networking going on.  This happens when you have two different PCs networking in two different modes -- one using "G", the other using "N".  The wireless router (or access point) can optimize performance for either mode, but not for both.  So, the "G" mode drags down the performance of the "N" mode PC, but even worse, with the router set for mixed modes, it performs more slowly than with either PC connected by itself. Here are some other troubleshooting steps you can try: HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 8) | HP® Customer SupportGood Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------Please click "Accept As Solution" on the post that solves your issue to help others find the solution. Please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on the left of the Reply button to say thanks fopr my help.========================================================================

Hello, I am new to posting so please forgive my communication method.

I have a Older Sony Vaio notebook where various keys (6, delete, hyphen, and others) are no longer working, but most of the keys on the board do work. I did a net-conference with a Sony technician who told me just to take it to a professional and pay for a repair - I would like to avoid.

Is there any advice, guides, or manuals on how to troubleshoot the problem?

Thanks

If you can do a bit of DIY and also work with a soldering iron, you could try and get individual keys for your laptop, or replace the whole keyboard yourself.

I have 3 Notebooks with Win 7, only two of them seem to have such a DVD you can use to make a repair install with. Can I use the DVD with Win 7 on it althoug supplied for another Notebook to make a repair install? The Notebook to be repaired only has such so called recovery versions, I cannot use to do a repair install, if I see it right.

A:Repair install with DVD of another Notebook?

Here is a guide ... http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html .

Hi;
I have a 4-1/2 year old Dell Inspiron 8100. It's working fine except that occasionally there is some interference on the display. I have found that "twisting" the base of the computer causes the problem to appear or disappear. It looks to me that there is a loose/broken ground to the display.

Can anyone tell me how difficult (or easy) it would be for a technical oriented person to repair this problem?
However, while I say I am technically oriented, I have a low threshold of frustration when it comes to such things. If the procedure is tedious or very time consuming I would probably not attempt it myself.

I have just upgraded this machine with a new fast 80G hard drive and a new battery, so it is certainly worth repairing the machine.

Thanks

FW

I have an Avaratec 6220 notebook computer and it's always worked fairly well up until recently. The LCD inverter went bad and so I had to wait a couple weeks to get one in. Finally, last night, it came and I was super excited about using my notebook again. However, it's always had overheating problems so I had bought a cooling mat for it and always used that. However, last night I plugged the cooling mat into the USB after I had booted up the computer. Everything was fine after I changed the LCD inverter, but when I plugged the cooling mat into the USB port the computer shut off and hasn't turned back on since. Anyone out there have any ideas on what could have went wrong and what needs to be fixed?

What a bummer though, I was excited it was finally fixed.

I made a Google notebook to keep the minutes of a meeting my business partners and I held last weekend. I made them all collaborators on the notebook so they could all make any changes or annotations they felt necessary. However, when they go to access this notebook they are prompted for a password.

There is nowhere (at least that I can find) to even choose to password protect the notebook let alone change the password. I'm pretty confused as to what password the notebook could be. The only thing I can think of is that it's asking for the password to my gmail account, which I don't really want to be handing out. Any ideas on this one gang?

Hello,

after I switched a broken cpu fan, my notebook acts as if WLAN is deactivated. It shows the icon with the red x in the taskbar and lists no wireless networks. Normally a switch for wlan and bluetooth can be accessed via keys Fn+F3, but that doesn't work anymore.

It could be that I damaged something during the repair. However, the device manager says the wireless adapter works fine, which makes me hesitate to just buy a new one.

In the control panel under "network and internet" there is no wireless connection listed that I could activate.

Any ideas?

Does anyone know how to repair the touchpad buttons on a Notebook N1L19EA as the left one has developed a left/right seesaw action unlike the right button which remains firm to the touch ? Unit still under warranty but Support refuse to do the repair without wiping the HDD and resetting to factory ... which is a load of ******** given that it will cause me untold hassle and time to get the laptop back to where it is now (from a software point of view). Any assistance would be gratefully received. A:Returned Acer Notebook for repair-now issues

Since this computer came back from warranty repair with problems, I would contact them and have them fix it. You can try holding down the FN key and pressing Num Lock key. or just use the backspace key.
As for Validation, This requires an updated version of ActiveX which you can get at Windows Update. you can also run the ActiveX Analyzer to see what version of ActiveX you have. You should have ActiveX 9.

New here and so I hope that I am posting in the correct place My new notebook an M -MX was in the warranty depot as we thought it had a dvd burning problem however that was not the case it was the media Anyway before it was sent into the toshiba warranty depot the level tech phone support said to get the computer to be like it was when I unboxed it days earlier new and old with now notebook ghost problems?? notebook Ghosted this was last month And so to my frustration all of my programs were removed however before doing this the software techie at the office Ghosted it to my Western Digital Storage Unit and then sent it off to the Warranty Depot While it was in the shop I used my yr old toshiba satellite which I am now typing on at this moment I was finally able to get the software tech from the office to reGhost my new toshiba new notebook Ghosted with old notebook ghost and now problems?? M on this past Saturday and left it with him for a couple of hrs and then returned to pick it up as there was not much in the way of programs on it and so it wouldn t take long to Ghost the Images back Well in my Western Digital Storage unit are Ghosts of this year old satellite that I am presently using After the techie new notebook Ghosted with old notebook ghost and now problems?? got my Restore Disk installed and tried to reGhost the image onto the New M it crashed He was using the wrong Ghost he new notebook Ghosted with old notebook ghost and now problems?? was using the one that was from this unit I was not happy especially after he claimed that he now had it Ghosted with the proper Image and I tried it out and it was very sloooooow to Boot He said it was my Norton I keep a log and had brought it with me and showed him how long the Boots took before it was sent off to the Warranty Depot with all the few programs that I had installed on it He had been doing other work and coming back to my unit while it was Ghosting and when it was finished I also asked him to plug in my gig SanDisk flashdrive and he went into My Computer and clicked on the drive and it simply hung there with the Timer showing Needless to say I am not happy and am wondering if the fact that he Ghosted the wrong image from my year old Satellite on it could have done any damage He said he would call me this AM and hasn t so I left a message with him I used my USB SanDisk before and there were no problems now he is trying to tell me that this drive has a peculiar install program that can cause problems I googled for it and found nothing I talked to the computer retailer a small outlet that I frequent and they indicated that it is simply plug and play Why the tech mentioned a problematic install program is beyond me as all i was trying to do was read the contents Is there a possibility that this notebook has been damaged by trying to Ghost this satellite to it He did do a full disc system restore the second time he did the Ghost Imaging however the computer is acting SlOOOOOOOOw to boot the SanDisk simply hangs there with the timer showing I would appreciate any comments as I am frustrated as to what is going on here I mean I would assume a techie would label the Ghost image with a name so that he knew which computer it belongs to Thankyou for your time nbsp

A:new notebook Ghosted with old notebook ghost and now problems??

Something you might want to try (it's a pita) is a repair of windows - this may fix some of the slowness issues you're seeing. The install program he's talking about is probably the U3 component of many larger USB pen drives. I think it's on most of Sandisk's newer large drives. A repair of windows might also take care of this. I seriously doubt that putting the wrong image on the machine and then putting another image on could do any damage to the machine itself - the folks here at my job do it all the time.

We've got a desktop hooked into a linksys B router, and a notebook that accesses the internet wirelessly thru that router. lately we havent been able to get a decent connection with the notebook, and if we've gotten any at all, it gets dropped soon. is the desktop getting the majority of the bandwidth, which is eliminating the notebook from getting enough? if so, is there anyway to limit the amount that the desktop is getting?

My wife has a two-year-old Samsung notebook. Recently when she unplugged it the machine cut off, even though the battery said 79% charged (it wouldn't charge any further). I figured that the battery was bad so I bought another one from Amazon.

This one charges to 100% percent and does exactly the same thing. I'm perplexed but think there's something going on with the motherboard that won't let it use battery juice, even if Windows 8.1 says it's 100% charged.

I've tried the hold the power button down for 1 min with the battery out trick to no avail.

Any ideas? I'm stumped and think I might need to get her another notebook.

Thanks, Robert

My own notebook (Asus EEE PC S101), running Windows XP service pack 3) was twice redirected to an unknown website when I wanted to visit the Guardian newspaper website. I was using IE version 8. Then the notebook froze. When this happened, I had to switch it off without using Cleanup, which I have used safely for a long time. When I had switched it on again, I used Firefox to go to the Techsupport Forum. I followed the instructions to download dds.scr and began running it. Then the notebook froze again. It still tells me "Two logs shall be created on your desktop" Now the cursor does not move any more either. I write this from another notebook, but I cannot create a logfile,m as everything is frozen on my own notebook. Help, please,

Hey guys I've been looking all over the internet to find a solution but failed to find any I hope you can help me out A couple of days ago I fell asleep in front of my notebook Asus X H which I have for about a notebook my work doesn't repair and system start Can't year now and when I woke up I couldn't connect with the wireless Hoping it would solve anything so I didn't have to go downstairs Can't start my notebook and system repair doesn't work to fix it I decided to restart my notebook I don't recall seeing a BSOD but after it showed the Asus logo there was nothing just a black screen This time I timed how long it took and after minutes it said quot Windows is loading files quot This doesn't take too long but then I get a black screen again but this time with a cursor for about a minute Then I get the Windows background with the cursor and after a minute or two the System Recovery Options screen appears There I'm asked to select a keyboard input method which is Belgian period in my case When I click on next another window gives me two possibilities - Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows Select an operating system to repair - Restore your computer using a system image that you created earlier As I didn't create any system images I go for the first one As there aren't any operating systems loaded it tells me to click on the Load drivers button As I don't have a clue what I should do choosing Load drivers I just click on next Then the following options are presented to me - Startup Repair - System Restore - System Image Recovery - Windows Memory Diagnostic - Command Prompt When I click on System Restore it says it's not possible because I should specify which Windows installation to restore If I go for System Image Recovery it just doesn't do anything I think Windows Memory Diagnostic is just irrelevant and the Command Prompt doesn't make sense to me at all Last but not least we have the Startup Repair which I tried an awful lot of times but it just seems to do nothing at all I downloaded and burnt Ubuntu and ran it on my notebook to recover some files I really don't want to lose I also downloaded a torrent of Windows Ultimate -bit and burnt it but it didn't make any sense to me at all I did the same as I did with Ubuntu namely raping the escape button as soon as I started my notebook and selecting P TSSTcorp But it seems I just can't fix the problem and I hope you guys can help me out somehow PS My notebook came with a -year guarantee but I'm not sure if this problem is part of the guarantee I hope it does and also if I send it back I'll have to cope without a notebook for a while and if I can fix it with your help I wouldn't have to wait so long Thanks in advance

guys I have a couple questions.
I pulled a hitachi travelstar 40gb IDE from a dead notebook. I have it lashed to my win7 labrat. the drive spins, the drive ID's itself fine, firmware looks on the surface to be ok, disk manager shows 'healthy', drive letter assigned ok, disc is 'active'. but it will not format... "cannot format volume". Same result if I pop it in a system and fire up a windows install disk, hit format, i get no error [not sure an xp install media will do that anyway], it will attempt to format and just die there... endless loop on the initial track apparently.

what is the best tool to use to attempt to repair sectors or ??? I looked at hitachi tools and they don't appear to be oriented toward track & sector repair, only interrogate/test/report. and they are ancient...

thx for any advice

A:Solved: Hitachi notebook drive repair: spins, ID's, won't format

Run the Hitachi/IBM Drive Fitness Test to determine the health of the drive, dont worry about the utility being old.
It may be a case that the drive fails and is beyond saving even with drive re-generator utilities such as HDDRegenerator (not free) , in which case retire and bin the drive.
try HDAT2, which is free

With the price of drives these days, I dont waste time trying to do anything with old dodgy HDDs that have bad sectors etc, I just bin them and replace

A friend of mine told me to watch out since he had the same computer and it had broken off. I noticed today that theroght hinge is actually starting to come out and the base of the computer is also getting loose. This is very strange since I barely move my computer from the desk since it is so big, plus I have a smaller one that I use to take to classes so I don't mess with this one for stuff that is unnecessary. I wanted to know how this can be repaired.Thank you!

Last year while my daughter was at school she started reporting to me that her HP Envy Touchsmart laptop's case was pulling apart at the corners nbsp Then she started reporting hearing rattling noises inside the case then the fan stopped working nbsp nbsp I called HP support and was told by one person the laptop was under warranty but that wouldn't be covered because of normal wear and tear nbsp I called back later and then was told the laptop was not under warranty nbsp I called back several times and got a variety of answers all of which added up to between and for repairs on a laptop that I spent on nbsp When she came home for a break from school I took apart the laptop and removed the debries from Touchsmart HP Hinge Envy Problems 15 the fan I had purchased a replacement fan which I didn't need and the laptop stopped overheating nbsp Next I tackled the hinge problem which by this time had progressed to be both hinges nbsp The weak plastic connections on the bottom were in bad shape cracked and peices missing nbsp So being the brain surgeon I am nbsp I decided to use epoxy to more firmly affix the hinges to the HP Envy Touchsmart 15 Hinge Problems case nbsp That fix has now failed nbsp I have seen and posted on other threads that this type of failure is despite what HP support says fairly common in the whole line of HP consumer grade laptops nbsp Before this I had mainly used HP business grade laptops and had thought that the quality there would also be in the consumer grade laptops nbsp My mistake nbsp Besides the whole HP Support not seeming to be able to give me a firm answer to if they had a permanent fix for my problem and what it would cost me to fix nbsp I didn't like the fact that they required that the hard drive go in with the laptop nbsp Besides there being personal private information on the HD I've seen them wipe the drive as a matter of course nbsp For a mechanical repair their should be no reason the HD is required nbsp I haven't attempted to open the case to examine the problem closer yet nbsp Soon nbsp I've got till the end of July when she goes back to school nbsp The epoxy repair was performed in January of before she went back to school and let go in March nbsp nbsp At my prior job we were an HP reseller and I have an Elitebook w that is very well constructed so I thought that the HP Envy would be of similar construction quality when I was looking for a laptop for my daughter to use throughout her college career nbsp I am fairly disappointed with the build quality for this laptop nbsp Is there any good way I can get HP to repair this for a reasonable price nbsp I personally believe that HP should go back to the drawing board on the design of the hinges and how they are fastend to the case nbsp And should issue a recall to fix the problem gratis nbsp The hinge connections to the bottom should not disintegrate under normal opening and closing of the screen nbsp nbsp Thanks for any assistance given with this matter nbsp

Hello,  I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 15 a little over a year ago. The hinge seems to have come unglued fromt the inside. I read that the HP Envy is prone to this, since the hinge is glued in production as opposed to being fastened with a screw. I'm a graduate student, and I'm unable to use my HP for schoolwork due to the faulty hinge. The computer has been handled carefully, and it's never been dropped. This is my first HP. It was great when it was working; however, a laptop that costs nearly a grand and works only for 1 year due to the construction is extremelhy dissapointing.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how it was handled by HP. I purchased it through costco, so I should have an extended 2 year warranty on the device.  Thanks in advance,  Alexandria

My laptop is a few years old but I have seen that this a chronic problem. The case is coming apart on both sides by the hinges. The hinges now do not work properly. Let me know what I can do!

I have an HP ENVY TouchSmart M7-j020dx, and the hinge on the left side has broken loose and has made the plastic casing bulge upward everytime the laptop is opened.  How can I have this repaired?

The left hinge is broken on my HP Envy 17" Touchsmart notebook.  The bottom plastic casing is also coming away. It is hard to open and close the laptop without causing more problems and I'm worried about the screen cracking.  My local tech service has been trying to source replacement parts, but has found none available. They have identified that this is a common problem with this model, and I see there are hundreds of postings with the same problem.  Please could you help?

Hi HP Team, This is the second time that my hinge has malfunctioned. My HP Envy was sent in for repair a year ago under warranty, and now warranty is up and the same problem has occured. I notice many people have had problems like this with similar models. I'd like to know whether I'd need to pay to have it fixed again, despite it being the same problem that was supposed to be fixed. I have the order confirmations of the previous repair and can send that if needed. It is unacceptable to me to have such a fault laptop, considering how much importance it has for my school work. Please contact me ASAP. Thanks

Had to take apart my laptop last night. Found the left hinge had broken away from the plastic. Found a number of threads about this exact topic. Would have replied to one of those but it appears they are closed. Need to know where to get a replacement part. If this is the wrong forum please move to the correct one.
