Toolbar not showing running programs or open IE Windows

Q: Toolbar not showing running programs or open IE Windows

I have lost an indication in my toolbar area of any running programs or open Internet Explorer Windows. Am using WinXP ..... The only Toolbars seemingly available to me are: Quick Launch, Address Bar, Links, Desktop and MediaPlayer.....I often open multiple copies of IE and I like to see what is open.......Any suggestions or links to interesting task manager type programs that would afford me quick access to what is running on my PC??

Thanks,

Preferred Solution: Toolbar not showing running programs or open IE Windows

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Toolbar not showing running programs or open IE Windows

Try this:
Start/Run type: rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

A box will open up giving you three options, the one you want is the middle one.
Select it and then ok

I recently installed free version of GIMP Photo Program to try it and I actually haven't done more than open it once. I mention this because it's the only recent change I've made as far as photo programs go.

I went to open one of my screenshots and it opened with GIMP, which I don't want. I went to Start/Default Programs so I could set the default to one of my other options. Those options would be IrfanView, Photoshop, Windows Photo Gallry, Fastone Image Viewer, Paint or Paint.NET or this GIMP.

The only options which show up under Start/Default Programs/Det Default Programs are IrfanView and Windows Photo Gallery. Why don't the other photo programs to appear there?

A:None of my photo programs are showing up when I open Default Programs

If you sceroll all the way down there should be an Other ... entry. Use that to browse for the executable you want.

Hi I solved the issue: When trying to reinstall Avira Antivir, i noticed that although all should have been previously unistalled Avira Desktop was still registered as installed by the avira installer but not by the windows. Then, I downloaded avira registry cleaner, removed antivir completly from the system before activating the cleaner. The problem persisted. Then I manually searched the registry for anything related to avira and found a key that still targeted the old repository. After manually deleting it and then reinstalling avira antivir, everything worked as it should.

I was hit by a trojan 6 months ago disguised as Microsoft Security essentials.  After running countless programs I cannot quite remove all symptoms of the problem.  Typically computer runs fine but after time allows me to run open programs but will not open anything new.  Cntr-alt-delete will not work and I eventually have to power down with the power button.  The problems went away for a couple of months until updating IE to 11 which seemed to awake some issue.  I have used the attached png to try to eradicate the issue and the DDS is attached.  Thanks for your help

In Vista, I have multiple programs which, when I open them, never start yet opening task manager shows them in processes taking up an entire processor yet never doing anything. This happens with multiple programs. I use to think that it related to when it was validiating an original CD, but has happened on a few programs that run without a CD. Sometimes if I keep ended the process and running it again it mysteriously gets passed this. I have tried two video cards, an Nvidia Quadro 4400 and Nvidia 8800GT in case it was games/graphics related, and have done all hotfixes related to this. I run Vista Aero 32-bit, 2x Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz processors, 4GB RAM. Doesn't seem to affect MS or Adobe products which are the other apps I use regularly.

Got a little problem with HiJack This! I have the latest version and all that.

For some reason it is not showing processes that are currently running like it used to (eg explorer.exe...). I have tried different settings in 'Configure' but nothing helps.

I have nothing on the Ignore list. I'll post a screen shot of the 'Main' page under 'Configure':

I did an update to AdWords Editor and my screen flashed afterwards and now most file type icons have reverted to no icon. Some are still there but most are not. They are missing in the folders and desktop. I have already deleted the IconCache.db several times and rebooted. The default program associations are working fine. Every file opens as it should. Even if I do change this, the icon does not return. I tried changing .txt files to open by default with Word but still nothing. Please help.

I have a toolbar on my taskbar titled "Programs". It has about eight folders in it. I made another toolbar, and placed it directly adjacent to the Programs toolbar, to obscure the eight folders and force it to be a dropdown menu.

Trouble is, as soon as I lock my taskbar, right next to the arrow that displays the eight items of my Programs toolbar in menu-form, one of the eight items is showing up as an icon, as if the other toolbar isn't close enough to the Programs toolbar in order to completely obscure the eight items.

Here's what I mean in graphic form:

It's bugging me to no end. Anyone else had this problem/resolved it?

A:Toolbar on taskbar should only be showing an arrow but is showing icon

Hello thewonkits, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I notice this happens when using small icons for a toolbar. If you like, you could unlock the taskbar, right click on the dotted separator line to the left of the two top far left toolbars (one at a time) click on View and Large Icons, then lock the taskbar to see if that may look ok to you. It will make the top row a bit bigger though.

Hopefully someone may know a better way to hide that bit of icon poking out when locked.

A:My Programs Wont Open After A Few Hours Of The Pc Running.

What are the specifications of your system (what CPU?, how much RAM, how big a hard drive, etc)?

If it's a major brand, we can figger this out from the make and model of the computer.

What do you use for antivirus and antispyware protection? Do you have a firewall running?

Hello,

I've been have some trouble with my comp for a little while now. Sometimes it runs really slow and I've been have trouble opening up some programs and links. At times I double click on Internet Explorer and the screen slightly flashes, but does nothing. This also happens with other programs or links. It also gave me a message about a month ago that my virtual memory was low. I also could have a connection problem. My gut feeling is there's something unwanted running on my computer, but I'm not sure. I don't know really what to do. Please help.

Thanks,

Cheeko

A:comp running slow, can't open some programs

might be spyware. lets take a loot at some things first. Rightclick on the bottom of your screen (taskbar) and open task manager. How many programs do you have running on a fresh restart? 40, 50 , 60, 1000. let me know.

How much RAM does your system have.

And we can proceed from there :)

When I open one of my programs, I can see the icon appear in the task bar, but when I click on it to be able to use it, it doesn't open. I can see other programs being highlighted when I click the specific icon for the problem icon, but it never comes forward.

I can however click the icon, use Alt + Space, and select maximize and it will function as normal, but as soon as I click the "restore down" button, it acts up again. I've ran sfc /scannow and it seemed to fix the issue for a few minutes, but then acts the same way again. Typically it is one application (AS400), which I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail, but also happens seemingly random to other programs such as notepad, firefox, and IE.

Thanks in advance.

Hi I was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced a problem that I have on my computer from time to time Sometimes my computer will not allow me to open any new windows open of programs folders? and number running web pages, Maximum folders or run programs if I already have too many browser windows folders and other programs running on my computer at the same time e g outlook This could be as simple as the following configuration Outlook running several Maximum number of running web pages, programs and open folders? internet explorer windows open a few folders open Maybe a couple of other items open If I try to open another folder or new internet explorer web page beyond what is already open it will sometimes allow the new folder or web page to open but it will be missing the menu bar at the Maximum number of running web pages, programs and open folders? top or it will do some other type of strange behavior similar to that The same type of problem sometimes occurs if I am trying to open additional programs as well The problem goes away if I close out all of the open windows browser pages outlook etc and then reopen them all again It is almost as if the computer has temporarilly reached a maximum threshold in it s memory or something I m not sure What s strange is that I ve noticed this happen on a few different builds ranging from low to high powerd computers Same problem on all of them I find it strange that the problem will go away if I close everthing out and re-open everything It is almost as if I have somehow cleared and reset the computer by doing this What is also strange is that it doesnt always happen with a specific number of items that are opened its not consistent Sometimes I will only have several things open at a time of the problem and other times I may have things open Sometimes it does the problem and sometimes it doesnt it is infrequent but has become an annoyance I m currently running Windows XP Pro with gb ram and an AMD Phenom II X Black Edition Deneb GHz I would think it should have plenty of power and memory to prety much run a good number of pages open folders and programs as I want to open I hope I have explained the problem adequately I would be curious if anyone has ever experienced this before and if you might know what causes this problem Thanks nbsp

A:Maximum number of running web pages, programs and open folders?

Try running a Full Scan with SAS and MalwareBytes.
Download them from the links in my signature.
Follow the below instructions Carefully:
1. Download HiJackThis from the link in my signature
2. Run a Scan.
3. Save a Logfile(On your Desktop)
4. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING BY YOURSELF.
(Fixing Anything Might cause Unwanted System Instability,BSOD's and Even Render your System Unusable)
5.Copy and Paste all the contents
6. Paste them in the reply Window

hi all-

hope everyone is having a restful weekend--have a quick question for the experts. one of my desktop computers has had a problem for a while now, mainly, that when you have multiple programs open, and when you minimize one of them (i.e. explorer), instead of a tab showing up at the bottom of the screen so that if you want to go back to the program you can just by clicking on it, nothing shows up there--the program is still running (it appears on task manager).....i was wondering whether anyone has a fix for this!

thanks again in advance for your help

cheers

Hello all I recently did a new custom build and am having some problems with programs not showing up I am used to Windows Ultimate but for my new computer I selected Windows Professional little bit cheaper but I am seeing why I have installed a couple of programs that do not show up in my start menu Most notably Windows Live Essentials Windows live mesh shows up but not windows live mail or Windows live messenger I have been able to go into the folder and create a shortcut to my desktop and add 7 Programs Professional Windows showing up not that to my start menu but I am finding that the more that I install the more that just seem to vanish I have installed Logitech webcam software and it again Windows 7 Professional Programs not showing up is no where to be found besides the installation program folder the only one showing up in the start menu or desktop is the Logitech vid program Reason for my question Is there a way to change the settings on Professional to match the out of the box settings on Ultimate Basically when Windows 7 Professional Programs not showing up I install a program I would like to have it show up as an item in my start menu and not have to be found somewhere in my Programs files Also when I redirect my libraries to my storage drive they like to appear as hidden folders I then have to go into my folder options and set the option to always view hidden folders I would prefer this not to be the case Thank you for having a look and possibly helping out

A:security protection, xp antivirus 2012, lots of blank windows open and no programs will open when i start my computer

to BC.We'll begin with thisStep 1.ComboFix:Download ComboFix from one of these locations:Link 2Link 3* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your DesktopDisable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. Here is a howto for some of the applications.
They may otherwise interfere with our tools

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.Step 2.Things I would like to see in your reply:The content of C:\ComboFix.txt from step 1.

Hello

When i turn on my laptop, the Windows toolbar does not always open/show the speaker and wireless network icon, when explorer.exe is opening (only about 50% of the time). This means i cannot connect to the internet, when this happens. When i go to the network options, the wireless network adapter says it is "not connected", and it is not possible to make it connect. The only solution i have found, is to restart the laptop, and hope explorer.exe opens the wireless network icon this time.

I do not think it is a driver problem, as it seems like it is the Windows toolbar that is bugging. It is like it "forgets" to open half of the icons.. I have been searching different forums, but i can't seem to find a solution :/

I have embeddeda screenshot of the icons that do not open at startup:

A:The windows toolbar does not open my wireless network at startup

See how the icons are configured
Right click the taskbar
select properties
on the taskbar tab
in the notifications area section (middle of the dialog) - click the customize button
what are the Behaviors for Volume and Network?

If you want them to always show - set the behavior to "Show icon and notifications"

there are two other things you might want to try on this dialog
1 - always show all icons and notifications
2 - restore default icon behavior

If those suggestions fail - try searching SevenForums tutorial section.

good luck.

My problem all started about two or three weeks ago when Windows Security Center popped up saying that my computer was infected with various viruses So when it prompted me to remove the infected files it requested a password of some sort that I Add Windows up like Can't Programs programs or open Remove didn t have so i just ignored Security Center when it came up Then my computer wouldn t let me open Mozilla Firefox I had to use Internet Explorer and then somehow I hit a button that would search for something using my default internet meaning Firefox So I found a way to get around the block Security Center was making But whenever I would try to do anything some window would pop up Can't open up Windows programs like Add or Remove Programs from Security Center saying I was infected and it would ask me if I wanted to block whatever file it was I decided to just ignore Security Center whenever it came up Then Can't open up Windows programs like Add or Remove Programs I m not sure when it happened but a window would pop up when i turned on my computer and it says quot rundll exe Application not found quot So now when I try to open up something I have to search through my program files to find something that will be able to open whatever it is that I need I have been able to open up Firefox but if I try to open up something like Security Center or almost anything from Control Panel it won t let me open it For instance Can't open up Windows programs like Add or Remove Programs when I try to open up Add or Remove Programs from Control Panel a window pops up saying quot C WINDOWS system rundll exe Application not found quot I am able to open up most files but I cannot open any Windows programs Also I use AVG Free to scan my computer for viruses but the last few times I have scanned my computer halfway through the scan my computer will shut down on its own Now my computer does shut down randomly sometimes but the last few times my computer has done this it was during an AVG scan I know this is a lot of random information but if you can somehow figure out what is going on and what is wrong I would greatly appreciate it

I have a trading program that I need to see all windows at once on. When I click the show desktop icon in the bottom right hand corner, these windows are all naturally minimized.

How do I get all the windows to show back up in the same position I left them in without having to click on every single window thumbnail?

A:Showing all open windows for a program

If you are using Windows 7, you don't have to actually click the Show Desktop button at the bottom right corner (you can simply hover over it with your mouse cursor and in a second, you will see your desktop). When you move away from the button, your programs will be there again.

The above method is only if you just require to see the desktop. If you need to actually perform tasks on the desktop, you will need to click on the Show Desktop icon, but then you will need to re-open all your windows manually. I don't know of a program that would do this for you. Sorry.

I open a program and it opens on the monitor. I think restore the size, rather than having in maximum size.

The program disappears, but is still in the task bar.
I click on the program icon in the task bar to make it appear in the monitor, but the program shows to open on a non-existent monitor on the left of my monitor.

I have checked Display adapters in Device Manager and they are working ok.
I have checked Control Panel\Display\Change Display Settings and all looks ok.

Everything has worked find until recently. No real changes, however I suspect Microsoft Windows 7 is doing some dirty tricks after I have made multiple complaints about their poor customer support on the phones.

How old is that card? Have you downloaded the latest driver for it? Have you checked for a chipset and BIOS updates? Generally speaking when something screwy like this is going on a gpu driver update, and/or chipset BIOS update will fix the problem. Most of the time.

Sorry mods.

That is an insidious program. If it was on your computer at any time it is hard to remove. Go to their website. They have a removal tool, use it. Somewhere there are remnants of the program. If I am wrong the tool will not hurt.

You probaly downloaded something, in the past, and it was sponsored by Kaspersky.

-Samsung R580
-Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
-4GB of DDR3 RAM (even though it doesn't feel like it)
-Intel Core i3 Processor - 2.13 GhZ

I finally got it back from being fixed because it was locked with Pheonix FailSafe and now they stopped supporting their servers so I couldn't get the unlock key from their website. So I sent it back to Samsung's Tech fixers (...) and they somehow got incontact with PFS and unlocked. But when I got it back. All documents were gone. Everything was fine except the documents. And this computer was so slow since. I don't know what they did it honestly takes like 15 seconds to open up Chrome. It use to take like 2 seconds being honest.

Anyways when I click on the Start Menu, I have my 5 pined programs but no recently opened programs will show. I've opened plenty of programs since, but no showing.

Hi vedantadeshika

Have you tried to boot into Safe Mode yet? If not, try that. As the PC is powering up, start tapping the F8 continuously until you see the Safe Mode menu. Choose "Safe Mode" from the list. If you didn't password-protect your Administrator account, you might be able to start things in Safe Mode using that account, and from Add/Remove Programs remove your theme-altering programs. From the Start/Run box, you could also try typing msconfig ...And in that program disable theme software from running at startup.

Should that not work, see if you can get System Restore to run & use a restore point from before your theme-altering episode. Try the following instructions from the Microsoft Knowledge Base article --- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449

I think you might want to make backups as soon as you can, too, if you have data that you cannot easily replace.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

You can do a "repair" install from Programs & Features of the Windows Live Essentials program. Just uncheck the install of new stuff and it should say it will do a repair of Windows Live Mail.

EDIT: If the repair doesn't seem to be working from Programs and Features you can go back to your original "wlsetup-web.exe" file that you downloaded from Microsoft. Don't download the version currently available unless you are ready to upgrade to the 2011 version (with the ribbon interface). Once again uncheck the new stuff and let it repair the old (Mail).

A:toolbar malware keeps showing up? how?

Unfortunately installing anything can try to install other software such as toolbars.
You must read each screen in the installation process and make sure to uncheck anything that is checked by default to install other software.
In some cases in the Terms it states other software will be installed...I would cancel the install if I ever see that.
It can also make a difference where you downloaded the installer from.
Some sites may package the installer with things you don't want.

Also, only the "Current Items" are listed (no "Past Items") I've tried clicking restore defaults but no luck. Here's a screen shot -- I'm clicking the down arrow on the menu but only a small black bar appears beneath the field.

I've installed several programs during the past couple of days (Thunderbird for one). Could that be causing this? It's been quite a while since I used that function so I don't know when it went on the blink.

Any suggestions?

Barbara

What does the page before that have? Do you have the box checked to get you to that screen you have a screenshot of?

My laptop (Toshiba Equium) has recently been to the menders, but is already slow. When I do Ctl Alt Delthere are usually about 50 things running - and I didn't start tem, apart from Firefox. No wonder it's slow. Can I get rid of any of these?

A:Windows XP-wy have I got 50 programs running?

There are some obvious processes that you can kill. Many applications have a "quick launch" feature which, when you boot your computer, start of a part of the application so that when you want it, it will launch much faster. Media players and office applications can be killed, for example. It also helps to have only one or two active screens open at the same time for different applications. You can review the Startup List tabbed at the top of the BC page, which will describe the application, etc., and whether it is necessary, unneeded, or optional. Remember, though, if you are not absolutely sure about something, it is safest to leave it alone. Naturally, if you still have questions about some of the things, you can post them EXACTLY as they appear in the menu, and our Members may be able to give you guidance.Regards,John

To get to the dos prompt, just go to run and then type in command. It brings up the familiar command prompt of the dos based windows days, but with a scroll bar: Sweeeeet.

I have googled this exact term and all i really get is either running Windows programs in a mac or emulating OS X PPC on Windows.

Im not exactly in dire need, but this would be interesting.

Im not looking for OSX emulation/virtualiziation, been there, too slow.

Im looking for a simple way to run Mac OSX programs in Windows environment with no virtual OS.

The program almoste likely uses the OpenGL graphic engin.
Since there is no support for OpenGL on Windows XP, your program will not run at all in XP. I have found that the same thing happens to a lot of my old games.

If you realy can't live without it; you should set up your system to dual boot XP and 98 and put all your old 16bit stuff on the Windows 98 patition.

Take Care.

I have windows xp home edition, all of the sudden things are not working right, if i try to search files and folders I get the little dog but nothing else. Media player no longer runs I get a quick hour glass and that's it. I can't run system restore or even system updates. Also I can't import pictures and such to powerpoint I get an error of some kind and it shuts down and asks if I want to send a report.
I would normally wipe out the HD and start over but I have no more uses of my XP license. So if any one has any ideas I could use the help

I want to be able to restart Windows without to OS) How start programs (other running Windows than by choice either without startup programs running or with startup programs running The reason is that I have an old Palm m PDA handheld that updates using Palm HotSync Manager via a USB serial port cradle Serial Port It works very well and I don t have a need to replace it with something more up to date but the problem is when I try to run the hotsync while other programs are running I get a Windows BSOD at some point before the hotsync finishes I have to reboot every time and the hotsync never finishes However I find How to start Windows without programs running (other than OS) that if I shut How to start Windows without programs running (other than OS) down almost every optional running program before running the hotsync then I can run the hotsync to completion without the BSOD happening As a workaround to simplify things I figure that when I m ready to run the hotsync if I reboot Windows to a state where no applications are running I can run the hotsync and then reboot Windows back to its normal startup state with all the normal startup programs running This all seems very labor and time intensive regardless of how I do it One way I thought of doing this more cleanly though probably not saving any time is to create another user account with no startup programs and run the hotsync from there and switch between the two Is this reasonable Or is there an easy or easier way of accomplishing what I want to do short of buying a new PDA Thanks FrankP S I don t want to mess around with msconfig

A:Getting a new Windows 7 computer with programs only running on XP

If you want to install XP in a normal manner (rather than through virtualization), you could put it on a separate partition on your existing Windows 7 hard drive OR put it on an entirely separate drive. The latter method is less likely to give you headaches.

If you want to use virtualization software, no, I don't think you'd need separate software for each of your programs.

Windows 7 is capable of running a lot of XP software and that would probably be preferable.

Ok Gringo, Hopefully this is the correct place to do this. I really dont think this new problem is malware related, but perhaps something has changed last week while we fixed that problem. It specifically started after running the Temp File Cleaner by oldtimer. That program caused the computer to freeze. I let it sit for a few hours hoping that it would work through it on its own, but had to unplug the computer to get it to reboot. It is then that I started having these problems.

After about 5 reboots I am now running pretty good on this machine, but I am afraid to reboot again and get froze out.

Hello v16butterfly, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if downloading the .reg files for the listed lnk (LNK) and exe options in the tutorial below may be able to help. It will restore their default associations.

Hope this helps,

Hey,
I booted the PC and had this awful surprise of noticing that I couldn't open ANY program at all.
At the first reboot I could open some programs like explorer, altough it was very slow.
At around the third reboot I couldn't open anything, and whenever I clicked CTRL-ALT-DEL it appeared a black screen and after a few minutes it said something like - "Can't open the commands on CTR_ALT_DEL", not like this but you get the point.
Some programs seem to be opening but then the cursor comes back from "loading" to normal.
I really need help, I've been searching for a while now and didn't find anything useful.

Lenovo computer was installing windows update all night so in the morning I turned it off (stupidly) and now it starts up and let's me log into my account fine, when I click on a program like chrome a grey screen flashes and then it goes back into the normal screen. This happens for any program. It sometimes just keeps flashing grey. Any advice? I'm quite a novice with things such as this!

A:Windows 8, programs won't open

Do you have any system images you could restore from? That might be your best solution, if you do. What, if any, other recovery media do you have? Once this issue is fixed then making a system image should be THE FIRST thing you do once your system is working again.
If you do not have a system image or recovery media then using "system restore" might be your best choice, but this sometimes doesn't work, and if system restore goes wrong it can leave windows unable to boot.
What, if any, other information can you give about your problem.
When you try to "open a program" how are you doing it, from the taskbar? from a desktop icon? Can you try finding the exe file fro the program within the folder it is in and openig it from there, see if that works.
Can any programs run at all? What about task manager (ctrl-alt-del) or internet explorer? Can your file explorer run (if it can't you won't be able to browse your documents at all)?
Can you try installing a program and see if that works? Perhaps try uninstalling chrome from the "programs and features" options in control panel and then reinstalling chrome, or leaving chrome as it is for know and installing another program?
Can you try downloading minitoolbox from here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/ and see if it can be run? If it will open then tick the option to "list last 10 event viewer errors" and the option to "list installed programs", it will produce a text file containg those lists.
Knowing whether programs run if launched in a way other than from the icon/takbar, and if programs built into windows can run, and if you can install a program and have it run, and if minitoolbox (a run-on-demand exe file program, rather than an installed one) can run, will help diagnose your issue.
It is important to note that turning off a computer during updating can be really damaging to it, in future make sure to let the computer complete it's updating before you turn it off, it might be helpful in future if you set your update settings so that they do not install until you give them permission "check automatically but ask me before downloading or installing" so that you can have them happen at a time which suits you (when putting updates on a setting where they ask your permission before installing make sure to check for updates and see which are being offered every tuesday evening and wednesday morning).

Two programs I use, Paintshop Pro X2, and FilemakerPro 5.0, will open after booting and function normally once. If I close either program and try to reopen, there is no reaction other than momentary spike in CPU usage. I haven't noticed this in any other programs and I have reinstalled both programs.

DEP is on for essential services

Rebooting to open these programs is a real nuisance. If anyone can help, thank you.

So earlier today my PC turned off and I think it might've been from me bumping the power strip but I'm not certain It turned back on by itself and when it did open will programs 7. No in Windows I couldn't open any programs except for Internet Explorer -bit and SUPERAntiSpyware which I'm guessing is No programs will open in Windows 7. because it boots on startup When I try to open programs while looking at the task manager they will occasionally pop up under processes for a split second but they disappear and nothing happens I No programs will open in Windows 7. don't know if this is relevant but I did have a virus sometime last week but I'm pretty sure I got all of it Ok so I've tried Running a quick and complete scan in SUPERAntiSpyware Doing a system restore Doing a startup repair Attempting to make a new user to see if I can do anything on that but the option in the control panel wouldn't open And none of them worked I've been looking for something to help for the last six hours or so and I'm super frustrated I'd really appreciate some help

Recently my computer has begun freezing for a second or two very frequently throughout my usage of it. It also cannot open programs (e.g., Sound Recorder or other software such as El Gato Game Capture HD). Any idea what is going on? A lot of my programs (including my doucments, Mozilla Firefox) give me the "not responding" words for a second or two to coincide with the intermittent freezing of the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Download HWMonitor from here:

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Make sure to download the .zip file to your desktop.

Once downloaded to your desktop unzip the hwmonitor.zip folder to your desktop.

Open up the unzipped folder and run either the 32bit Software or 64bit Software. How to tell the difference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218
Allow HWMonitor to run while the PC is at an idle state. After about five minutes of running at idle take a screenshot and save the image to your desktop.

Now allow HWMonitor to run while gaming or doing heavy processing for about five minutes. Take another screenshot and save the image to your desktop.

In your next reply please include both screenshots.

Hi. I use an apple iMac with boot camp and Windows XP, which has been working perfectly up until now. This morning when I turned on my computer, about 12 Notepad documents opened and at the start of all of them it said either "This program can not be run in DOS mode" or "This program must be run in win32" and then it has hundreds of lines of random characters. I can't open anything like MSN or even Firefox because it just comes up with one of those notepad documents (I am currently using Mac OS). I have tried System Restore but when I click on that it also comes up with one of the documents. I can't open ANYTHING!!!

Please help me.

Aeontrix, Go to the link below and scroll down to line 12 (left column) and click on "EXE (lnk and regfile) Fix for Windows XP" to download a reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

If you can't access the Internet use another computer to download it onto a floppy or CD and transfer it to the problem computer. If you can't run the file do the following:

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a Command Prompt window. Enter REGEDIT.EXE and press Enter. Once regedit is open click File>Import and locate that reg file fix, hilite it and click Open.

Hi All,

I have strange issue in my Windows 7. Usually, every time I turn my computer on, I open AutoCAD, opera web browser, yahoo messenger, and winamp. But recently, I can't open all that programs. Sometimes I can't open opera and yahoo messenger and when I open AutoCAD, the AutoCAD is freezing, and when I go to windows task manager, it shows that AutoCAD is running. Another case, If I try to open AutoCAD first, It works normal, and when I open yahoo messenger or opera, I only see time circle cursor means something loading, but nothing happen.

Anyone knows what's going on with my windows 7?

Looking forward for your response.

Thanks all

A:Some programs won't open in Windows 7

Stop Yahoo Messenger from start-up. Others are having problems with Yahoo Msgr.

Download SysInternals AutoRuns from Microsoft TechNet - SAVE to Documents -

http://live.sysinternals.com/autoruns.exe

RIGHT-click on autoruns.exe, "Run as Administrator"

Click on "Logon" tab. Look for "Yahoo Messenger" entry; un-check the box to disable it.

You can still run it once at Desktop. Un-checking the box disables it from auto-start-up.

suspecting my programs might be corrupted i reinstalled my programs but no use.

i checked my temp and it shows 60 C in my bios setup.
I am running a windows 7 32 bit ultimate.

Is there any work around for this? I use this utility all the time and I need it. Is there an alternate command-line program to run this program?
