I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. I just bought a laptop loaded with windows vista home premium. I am having problems in seveal areas. I can't import my calendar and contacts into Outlook 2000 that I had downloaded from my old computer, I get an error message saying the WAB LL is missing. That great but what do I do about it?
My MS office Powe Point 2000 seems to have limited functionality. I tried to build an organizational chart and got no where. The function doesn't work, I'm sure I'll see more of the same as I explore the functionally,
I have tried to reloading and running the find and fix function to no avail.

Bob C, or anyone... I'd appreciate your help.

I had to uninstall Ofice 2003 and put 2000 on the machine instead.

I backed up a PST from Outlook 2003 basic edition in the format compatible with Outlook 97-2000.

I installed Office 2000 and set up Outlook 2000.

When I attempt to import the PST into "Outlook Today" "Personal Folders" folder, an error message comes up as follows:

"The source and destination folders for this operation cannot be the same"

This happens when I import it from Applications data/Microsoft/Outlook on the local machine.

I've read related threads but still am unable to import the .pst file from an external hard drive into Outlook 2000. When I try (using File -> Import & Export -> Import from another File -> .PST) I first get the error, "Properties for this information service must be defined prior to use." followed by, "The file c:\...outlook.pst is not compatible with this version of the Personal Folders Information service. Contact your administrator."

I am logged in as an administrator, I have ensured the read-only property for the .pst file is NOT selected, and I have first copied the .pst file to my local hard drive. I was using Outlook 2000 before and am now as well, so why the version issue? Any ideas? Any help is most welcome.

I am planning to purchase a new computer that runs Windows 7. The e-mail program in my old computer is Outlook2000. My e-mail provider is Earthlink.

I need to import all of my contacts and e-mail files from the old computer into Windows Live Mail on the new computer (I think that this is the current e-mail program supported by Microsoft). I also need to be sure that my existing Earthlink e-mail address will be the one that people will contact me on my new computer.

Is anyone aware of an efficient way to move emails (inbox, sent, etc) from Mozilla Thunderbird to Outlook 2010 (not Express)?

Tbird2OE is amazingly slow and introduces some problems of its own.

A:Thunderbird to Outlook 2010 - email import?

What's slow about it? Thunderbird is a pretty basic, simple e-mail editor. If it opens slowly or doesn't respond, I suspect you have other problems.

Also, there's no way to natively import e-mails from Thunderbird into Outlook, so you'd have to hunt for a 3rd party tool.

Have you tried adding the backup PST files as secondary data files. Once you do this you can view them and move the emails over to the new PST file.

To add the backup PSTs, go to the Tools menu and choose 'Options'. When the setup screen opens, go to the 'Mail Setup' tab and then click on 'Data Files'. Depending on your version, there should be an 'Add' button either on the right side of the setup screen or on the top. Click 'Add' and navigate to where you have stored your backup PSTs. Choose the PST with your previous email. After you have added the data file (PST), close the setup menus and check your folder list. You should see a new "Personal Folders" added to the bottom of the folder view list. Expand it and you should see your old emails. You can then highlight and drag them to your new Inbox.

Hope this helps you retrieve your email.

Got an Acer with Vista & Windows Mail -- my old Dell had XP Pro and Outlook. I had no problem backingup Outlook to a Seagate external and connecting it to the Acer .. but Windows Mail does not seem to import Outlook .. only Outlook Express. My wife's computer has Outlook Express .. so I thought I would email her my backup file and import it to Outlook Express and then back that up and email it back to me and import that to W Mail ... but the email will not transmit with the backup file attached "not enough memory" the backup is 1.5m.

My next strategy is to go into my old computer and edit folders or do a few partial backups so I get a small enough file(s) to attach to email.

Any other suggestions ...

How do I import email messages into Windows Live Mail? Help!!! Thanks.

A:import email messages from outlook into windows live mail

I wish I knew what to advise you on this topic, but I also find myself in the same position. I recently purchased this new laptop, with windows 7 installed on it. I also decided to upgrade my Microsoft Office from the 2000 version, to the Student/Office 2010. Several hours after roaming through the Office program went by, and then I noticed that Outlook Express is not included with that program, but can be purchased for an additional $149.00

Windows Live setup didn't go well either. I tried to run the wizard, and set up an email account, but I never could get the sign-on to acknowledge the password for the windows live, or the email account/s Gmail, or others that it stated would import all contacts from the old account (Outlook Express).
I'm not using Windows Live becuse of this, but to be more honest, i'm not really sure what the importance of the program is, other than using it for Video email of sort. I just let it stay closed, and go on without Windows Live right now.

Hope everything works out for you, and maybe we can both benefit from any responses on this topic.

Have a great day,

I currently check my emails online from This brings up an online email client where I can create folders, save settings etc and store my messages. Is it possible to import all my folders & messages from online into Outlook or Windows Mail?I currently use Vista Home Premium and Outlook 2007.Thanks in advance?

A:How Do I Import Online Email Messages Into Outlook Or Windows Mail?

According to the page below, you can set up an email client for your mail access. Hope this helps. you get the client set up, let it download your inbox. THEN create a folder for temporary use, move the inbox contents to the folder. Next create folders with the same names as your web based mail folders. Move the messages from one folder to the inbox, open up the email client, download, then move them to the newly created folder. Repeat this process for each folder. Finally, move the contents of the Temp folder back to the inbox. If you have any questions about the client you set up, all you have to do is ask, and someone will answer them.

Windows Mail came with Vista after Microsoft discontinued Outlook Express. On Win7 and Win8/8.1 I've had better success with Windows Live Mail, part of Windows Essentials, than with Outlook for most folks. An issue with one yesterday on Win8.1 and its Mail was that for ease it worked best to have a Microsoft account such as or so I removed that tile and setup Windows Live Mail to use with his local ISP account. Now if you are confused by names, join the crowd, Microsoft seems to love confusing us like they did with Works and Works Suite.

When I check my Sent Items to see if it has actually sent I will see the message duplicated hundreds if not thousands of times. The recipients will receive the message but mostly just once, some have reported getting it three times. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I have done quite a few office 2000 business addition installations, but this one has me stumped. For some reason even after email addresses have been put in to the TO or CC fields and sent, when starting to retype those same names they are not auto populating. Any ideas?

A:Outlook 2000 email addresses

My first thought is the Outlook.nk2 file. If it doesn't exist, i don't know if it will recreate itself or not. I do know that this is the file where outlook saves the auto complete addresses, and the path to the file should be:

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

But, before messing with that i would look through the outlook email options. In outlook 2003 go to tools, options .... on the preferences tab click "email options", in the email options window click "advanced email options", and then there is the option to "suggest names while completing To, CC and BCC fields" . So you'll want to find the similar option in outlook 2000. if this option is turned off, turning it on may force the creation of the outlook.nk2 file. if not you should be able to create it yourself or copy it from another system or user profile. hope that helps, as i don't have a system running outlook 2000 available to test it on.

I have Outlook 2000 SR-1, and use Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2 (to the extent it is relevant). When I go to address an email by scrolling down the list of contacts that show up by clicking on the email "to" button, only some of my contacts come through, despite the fact that all of my contacts contain email addresses. I have checked the Microsoft website, and their fix on this (OL 2000 (CW)/Q197907) for Outlook 2000 is limited to Outlook installed with the "corporate or workgroup" option, which mine is not. I was unable to find any additional help for this version of Outlook and would greatly appreciate any insights. Thank you very much.

A:Outlook 2000 SR-1: Problem with Contacts in Email

Hi lawyermom
Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Do you have more than one Contacts folder in Outlook?

Open the Address Book in Outlook, are there folders or groups listed under Contacts?
If so, look in each to see if the missing Contacts appear.
If Contacts appear in other folders, you can Copy them to the main folder.

When using the To: button, you can also click the drop down arrow and switch to the other folders (if they exist) to select those Contacts.

Let us know what you find.
This may be of interest to you: This link shows how to reconfigure mail support in Outlook 2000.

An advantage of having Outlook configured as Corporate/Workgroup, is the ability to create additional profiles in Outlook. If errors start occurring in Outlook, you can create another profile to see if the errors occur in the new profile, as well.

Recently, my deleted emails reappear within a few minutes (in the inbox).

When I check the delected files folder, there are 1 or more copies of the email in there depending on how many times I deleted the email message.

This started sometime after I applied a major update to Zone Alarm and have been wondering if there is something in that update that is causing this.

Any way to configure my searching to be more precise in sent or received emails? Outlook 2000 won't let me set the date range I want to search nor let me select the fields I want to search. When I go to advanced find in my email I seem to be stuck with searching "subject field" or "subject field and message body" or "frequently used text fields". Same with dates-only a few date range choices are allowed. What a waste of search time when I only want to search for the word "popcorn" used in one message body last Halloween week. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

A:Advanced Find in email for Outlook 2000

If you're just looking for the word "popcorn" in the body of the e-mail. Outlook can do that.
Click Find on the toolbar, then under Options click Advanced Find.
On the Message tab sheet, type popcorn in "Search for word(s):"
For the "In" drop down menu box, change it to "subject field and message body", then click on Find Now.

Outlook can also search in date range. Let me know if you still can't find the word popcorn.

I had a new hard drive put in, was told that they copied the ocntents of the old drive to the new one. Now I cannot receive emails in Outlook 2000 (even though all of the settings are correct). Want to uninstall Outlook 2000 then reinstall, however, when I search for *.pab it is not on my hard drive. The strange part is that I can open my Outlook Address Book, in fact, I can execute c:\Program Files\Outlook Express\wab.exe and it opens the correct address book. I really need to back up the pab file before I uninstall Outlook for fear of losing my address book with the uninstall/reinstall.
Any ideas on how I can find the pab file or at least, where the wab.exe program is going to find its information, would be greatly appreciated.

PAB is used if you are running Outlook Through an Exhange. If you have a standalone machine, more than likely you will not have a pab.

I am an Exchange 2003 Admin. I have a user who is receiving Repeated Read receipts for an old email (sent in june 2008) in Outlook 2000. I have checked sender's PC. evrything looks okie. The read receipts appear to come randomly. sometimes once, sometimes twice or thrice in a day. Its the same read reciept evrytime.

I have not been able to find out the root cause or a resolution to this.
Note: already tried new profile, outlook reinstall, used MfcMapi etc.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

A:Repeated Read receipts for an old email in Outlook 2000

Hi satish.kallem
Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Is the user using an .ost file or a .pst file?
If it is a .pst file, create a second .pst file and make it the Default Delivery Location.
Close and restart Outlook 2000 for the changes to take effect.

Then Right click and Close the original .pst file.
Close and restart Outlook 2000. Does the repeated read receipt stop?

If so, reconnect the original .pst file to Outlook 2000:
File > Open > Personal Folders File (.pst)
Browse to the location of the .pst file and select it.
The original Personal Folders should then appear in Outlook 2000.

Change the Default Delivery Location back to the original .pst file, if desired.
Close and restart Outlook 2000 for the changes to take effect.
Let us know if that works for you or not.

when i send e-mail in Outlook 2000 and select the names of the people i want to email. I just get...yourname (email) the TO bar...I was wondering how to display the name and email address all at once. Similar to the way AOL does Please help me!!!!

A:Display email address in outlook 2000 instead of just names when sending

Unless you're using your company's global address list, you must have saved the e-mail addresses yourself (either in your personal address book or in Contacts).

If so, the name is just a short identifier for that e-mail address. You can change the names to include the e-mail address by editing it the name:

In Contacts, right-click the contact, click Open.
Change the Full Name line to read:

Contact Name: E-mail address
e.g. John Smith: [email protected]
In the File As line, make sure it says the same as above.
Click Save and Close.

Alternatively, use:
File, Address Book, double-click the addressee, click the Name tab.
Add the e-mail address to the end of the surname and make sure it appears the same in the Display line.

If you're using a global address list, I'm not sure how you'd change it, maybe someone else can jump in and help you?

They are written in two different formats that are uncompatible. The Oulook Express has a file sytem totally unique to it.

I had the same problem about 6 weeks ago going from XP to Win7.
I had to transfer address book to notepad and put it into Outlook one at a time. The old mail sits in the old PC.
I have heard you can transfer the OE mail files over to Windows mail or gmail etc. Then transfer files from the new mail server to Outlook.
File system is changed over with the mail transfer- I haven't tried it though.

I did a Google and found this. I didn't find this page six weeks ago.

Hi Kevin,

First you need to answer a question... Which installation of Outlook does this user have? To find out, on the HELP menu choose About Microsoft Outlook. In the ABOUT MICROSOFT OUTLOOK field you should see "internet mail only" or "corporate or workgroup" listed.

If "internet mail only" is listed, try this article.
Internet Mail Only option

If "corporate or workgroup" is listed, try this article.
Corporate or Workgroup option

Just in case those don't work, try one of these articles, based on what version of Outlook you are importing the mail into.

When we saved over 64 bit, it saved old settings to c: windows.old. So maybe I can access old data if needed there.

A:Windows 7 import only gets one email in WLM

This is in relation to another post of mine where I have written over a windows 7 64 bit OS with a 32 bit OS and it stored the data I needed to get in a windows.old folder. I have been able with much trial and error to import the emails over and correct the folders so they were the same as they were in WLM. I also was able to get the contact list over and it seems to be working like a charm. I have migrated to Thunderbird for those who are interested, as I have loved its use for years.

I am having to reinstall programs and settings on a newly formated HD running Windows 7. I am connected to the HD of an older computer via sata/ide interface. Is there a way to import WLM accounts from this external HD to new computer?

During Win8 setup, the only option it gives you for email [email protected] Once you use it, it asks if there are any other email accts. you would like to import. It worked good. Now I no longer want to import emails from the site. For the life of me I cannot find a way to turn off the Import. Help Please, Thanks in advance, Roy

Hi Roy,

I'm not sure I understand your problem completely, but you can delete additional e-mail accounts associated with your Microsoft account here.

If this is not what you want, please explain your problem clearly with the help of screenshots / photos.

I exported all my email accounts, contacts and messages prior to reinstalling Windows Vista after having problems with Vista that I couldn't solve.
I easily managed to import the user accounts and contacts but Windows Mail can't seem to import the email messages for some reason. They were exported as IDS files and Windows Mail doesn't recognise them when I point to the folder where they're saved.
Can anyone please help me, I have messages that I really don't want to lose

A:Cannot import email messages

Do you just point to the folder or do you open it?

What process did you use to export the messages?

Because Windows Live Mail (WLM) cannot handle messages with embedded pictures (converts the pix to attachments when you forward), I uninstalled WLM 2012 and installed WLM 2009. But 2009 did not pick up my contacts.

How to I import them, or tell WLM 2009 where they are (they're in a folder called "Contacts" and they're in .vcf format)?

Does anyone know if there is a "folder limit" or "size limit" in Windows Mail?? I have hundreds of folders with e-mails located inside and when I had to rebuild Windows Mail because my spell check didn't work, I backed up my e-mail folders in a empty folder on my C drive as well as on my back up drive and when I went to import them all back, I only was able to import a portion of them.. Others, when I go to import them manually, they say they imported over, but when you open the import file, nothing is there.. Any suggestions on how to get the rest of my folders to import over?? Thanks kolmtiger

I have saved my gmail contacts as a .csv file in excel. But, it does give this error message:

Attachment 236078

Although the data is there in excel:

Then I try to import to Windows Live Mail as so:

And it says "importing"..... and then nothing else. No contacts come in and no other message.

Please can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

A:Import email contacts to WLM from gmail - how?

Sorry - didn't see this thread.

Yeah, the import in WLM and Outlook suffer the same problem. there is no "select all".

So you have to tick each field you want to import.... each time you perform an import. It does remember some fileds, but not the ones you might expect, such as name.

anyway, the default mapping should suffice - just tick all fields and try again.

I recently installed a second larger hard drive in my Dell PC running WinXP, SP3, and now would like to export/import email messages from the original hard drive to the new one. I successfully did an export/import with the Addressbook, but the emails are less straightforward. Both HDs have OE installed.

Hello, Group; I'm new here. Just got a terrific new lappy with Win 7. My old lappy crashed and for my email addies all I have is a folder (now on the desktop) with all my 800+ addies; each is a "contact file" and it was not exported from Vista as CSV nor WAB.

Can somebody please tell me how to get them into Windows Live Mail?

A:unable to import Vista email addies

if you have office outlook you can import the contact files one by one then export the CVS when your done then import the CVS into live mail

Can anyone tell me how I can import a report generated by Access into an email attachment?

I have a function that imports the reports into Word but the formatting is ruined. Any ideas?

Thank you.

A:Import Access report into email attachment

One option is to use the Snapshot .snp format. The problem is that the person on the other end has to download a small viewer program if they don't have access installed on their computer.
The other way is to use Adobe if you have Distiller.
