Win2000 pro wireless network properties box missing

Q: Win2000 pro wireless network properties box missing

The wireless network properties box is missing. I have a Satellite pro 4600 with Linksys card for wireless and every thing worked once before. I replaced the hard drive with a new one and rebuilt the system. After installing the Cisco PEAP supplicant software to be able to logon at the college the box is now missing. I've tracked the problem to the PEAP software overwriting files on Win2000 sp4.
Or so the masters at M/S claim. Their advice was to reinstall Sp4. This didn't work. All of the information I have for configuring wireless cards for Win2000 show this box and it was there the firt time I set up the system. I have reformatted the hard drive twice then Installed Win2000 pro and the Sp3 and Sp4 using two different Install cds. I did not install the PEAP supplicant and still no box.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey, how are you?

So I'm trying to connect to the internet via wireless. I have this sheet that tells me step-by-step instructions on how to do this (connect to my work network). The problem is that when I right-click on 'Wireless Network Connection,' only the Networking and Sharing are the only options that show up. I need the 'General' 'Wireless Networks' 'Advanced' tabs to continue my set-up. Am I clicking on the wrong thing? This also happens with my 'Local Area Connection'.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I've had real trouble locating this particular window in Windows 10. The only way I can get to it is if I create a manual entry for a wireless network. In Windows 7 you used to be able to get to it for existing wireless networks that I had previously connected to. Does anyone have any idea how to get to it? Many thanks

Is there a freeware program to view WZC profile information from the command line? I found one that allows you to display the profiles themselves, however to display the profile properties I haven't found one.

I could also use direct registry edits if I had to, using the reg command. The problem being, that it would appear that the information is stored in binary format, which I've got no idea how to even manually pull the profile name from. The only thing that information seems to give me, is the abillity to later manipulate the order of the networks, that is maybe. I don't need that part yet, but will later on. I guess, since viewing the profiles is so slow, direct registry edits "might" be preffered. This is WZC I'm concerned about, not any third party utillities. I'm using Windows XP, and it's SP2 or later.

A:View Wireless Network Properties from the Command Line

Researching further, it looks like nobody knows how to pull the information from the registry. I've got Windows XP, so netsh wlan won't work. It looks like this is leaving me now with 2 solutions to get some of this information.

Solution 1: Use some kind of programming API to get the information and display it from the command line. I've therefore heard that there seems to be an interface called the WZC native API. If that's true, how would you use it in AutoIt or in a BATCH file or in a VBScript? I've never used anything like it before, so I need detailed explanations of what the code does, except for that doesn't mean I need to know all the internals of every function. But I need to know how to use it. I know BATCH files well, but I don't really know the full VBScript or AutoIt languages, though I can make some of it's code out anyway.

Solution 2: Somehow maybe use AutoIt in another way to read the properties from the dialog box. I know from research that this is probably possible, but I don't know how to do it. And what I need to do, is hide all that visible clicking going on, even if I'm doing some clicking. That is - hide it from the end user. It's nice to see it moving on the screen, but I'd rather not see it if I were the end user, in this case.

Now keep in mind, that at this point, all I'm trying to implement in these programs, is a way to do exactly what you can already do in Windows XP by default (but it has to be compatible with Windows XP Home, Pro, and MCE), except for from the command line. This is just one small part of a larger picture. I'll then be able to use that command in my other parts of my code that I need it in. So my general rule that I need to follow, is if you can't do it in the Windows XP dialog boxes, you can't do it in this program. If you CAN do it in the Windows XP dialog boxes, you CAN do it in this program. But everything is from the command line, in the end result. If Windows XP already provides a command line, which in this case it doesn't, I should use it. If that's not possible, I should use the registry, but I guess that's not possible if nobody knows how. If that's not possible, I guess I'll try to use a VBScript, and if that's not possible, I'll try to use AutoIt. But the end result is a command line program.

I hope this starts to get me down the right track. It took this weekend to find this information so far.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1, on an HP G60-120US laptop.  I have an Atheros AR5009 wireless adapter.
I have no problems with internet access.  However, in Network and Sharing Center I left click on "change adapter settings", right click on Wireless Network Connection, and then left click on Properties I get an error box that says "An unexpected error occurred."  I tried to do a clean boot using MSCONFIG but that did not work.  I tried to uncheck the "Load startup items" box but after restarting it was shaded solid again.  I then tried to check the "Diagnostic Startup" radio button and then click on "apply" but it jumps right back to selective startup.  Can you please help me clean my laptop?

I am trying to configure a home network to share printers and files, but for some reason one of my two computers cannot see the other. My laptop cannot see my desktop when I go to "Network" but it can see my other wireless devices. My desktop can see everything on the network, including the laptop. I have checked all the firewalls, including McAfee settings.

One thing that I found to be strange was that in Network Properties for my wireless network, the desktop shows "networking" AND "sharing" tabs, but the laptop is missing the "sharing" tab. I think that this might be the problem.

Also, I forgot to mention that the desktop can ping the laptop, but the laptop will not ping the desktop.

Thank you for the help

Do you have another wireless utility running? If so, it probably has an option (such as "use Windows to manage wireless") to turn itself off and turn Windows XP's Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) on.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about since I mostly avoid using WZC.

Hello all,

Weird problem. I hooked up a linksys device to one of my laptop to change settings on it. Now that I have unhooked it. For some reason, there is no longer a network tab under the properties of my wireless card! I have enabled the wired and wlan config in services but it still will not come back! I'm trying to configure a wireless connection with the internal wireless card like I normally do. The tab is just no longer there! I have no idea why and I'm lost.

Any ideas? Remember this is Vista there is no wireless zero configuration just the wired and wlan config.

Is your copy of Vista updated to SP1? What version of Vista are you running? Is your system clean and free of viruses and other malware. By Network tab, do you mean the word "Network" in the start menu?

He said that I would have to access the BIOS directory to figure this one out. He said he couldn't help me with it because tehy sell a card for $150 and I needed to buy it. But he also said I was welcome to figure it out for myself.

I accessed the bios at startup and found a couple of descriptions in the BIOS refering to "wireless". They all were "enabled".

Can anyone help me get this icon to appear so I can use my work computer at home?

My HP laptop crashed due to a bad HD. I replaced the HD and installed Windows XP professional. Everything seems to work fine except I have no wireless network connection icon on the Network Connections screen - hence I can't connect to my wi-fi. Since the hardware is unchanged except for the HD, I must be missing some firmware or software - like a driver. Or possibly a bad setting in the SSID or something? I have installed SP2 and SP3. What can I do to correct this problem?

A:Missing wireless network icon

Probably what you need to do is, as you suggest, install some drivers--at least the wireless. Download them from HP's web site. Check in Device Manager to see what you are missing.

Hi

I've recently installed Microsoft XP Professional edition. I used to have a working wireless network adaptor and but now it's missing. I cannot see it under Device Manager. I've seen other posts that suggest updating drivers but if the OS cannot see this hardware how the hell do I make Windows find it?

Can anyone help?

It's a Toshiba laptop. According to Toshiba tech support the wireless network adaptor is an Intel Pro 2915.

Hey guys

My mother got a hold of the family netbook and deleted the drivers for my wireless network adapter. I can't seem for the life of me to get the drivers to come back and I went online and found them but that didn't work either.

My netbook can't even see that there's a wireless adapter in the computer. What can I do to fix this? I have a Samsung N150 Plus NetBook with windows 7 starter.

Thanks :/

I read through a couple of posts on this site and took the suggestions.

My wireless network adapter is missing from my device manager. I checked the BIOS and it was disabled so I enabled it. But it had an ! next to it and a warning that the adapter would not boot if there was an ! next to it.

What should my next step be?

A:Wireless Network Adapter Missing

That would indicate you are missing the driver. That would either be on a cd or you can go to www.hp.com and put in the model number of your pc and download the right driver.

I just reinstalled windows on my laptop and finished installing all the drivers but noticed my wireless internet wasn't working. It gave me the same message "missing driver - missing wireless network adapter". So I downloaded the driver for that (Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card) and now my wireless internet works... However I'm still getting the "missing driver" message every time I start up my computer.

I've been in my device manager and looked in Network Connections and it definitely says "Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card" right under it along with "1934 Network Adapter" and "Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller".

So am I missing something? Any help at all would be appreciated.

God knows how this happened, but I've been yanking my hair out attempting to fix it.

I'm running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 9300.

Upon restart a few days ago, I was unable to connect to any wireless connection. My Wireless Network Connection Properties box looked as such:

After re-installing the Intel/Pro Wireless 2915ABG program/drivers/etc., when I click on "Configure" it goes to the adapter's properties screen. (woohoo!)

However, I have no TCP/IP protocol. I click on "Install", choose "Protocol" and receive the following error:

"Could not add the requested component. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified".

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's making me positively nuts.

Thank you!

A:Wireless Network Adapter Is Missing From Device Manager

The wireless adapter does not appear under Network Adapters in Device Manager and there are no warnings or errors anywhere in Device Manager, right?

Check in you BIOS (Setup) to see if it somehow got disabled there.

If you can access the adapter through a cover on the bottom of the laptop remove and carefully and firmly reinsert the card three or four times (this will usually wipe any possible corrosion off the contacts).

Hi.

Can you give us the exact model number of your laptop? If you're not sure how to check, close the lid and flip it upside down, then check what it says after "Aspire" for example, mine is the Aspire V3-531G).

Also, did you download official drivers from the Acer website? If not, just give us the model, and I'll give you a link to an official driver download.

You guys Rock!!! You helped me fix my work PC today and one of my coworkers asked me to post this for him regarding his home PC.

He has Win2000 and lost all his desktop icons, start menu and task bar. He has to do a ctrl-alt-delete to do anything.

All of the previous fixes here appear to be for XP machines.

Any advice I can pass along?

Thanks again for the help.

Hello, I just receive my new desktop with a brand new windows 8, after I successfully installed and activated windows it seems I can't connect to my network neither access its properties. I am actually using my phone as a wifi adaptor through easytether and I already tried to (re)install different driver for my Ethernet card but it makes no difference. I don't think easytether could be the cause but I can't connect to any bank website, facebook, hotmail, I can't download and install google chrome and I can't use windows update (I though it could have fix few of the issues). I don't know if I posted this thread in the right place since so many things are malfunctioning but I'll be glad to have a bit of help here. cheers

Anyone have a guess Ben helped me rule out ATI properties display missing software Hi When I select Display from the control panel menu or when I right click on the desktop and select Properties nothing happens more precisely I sometimes see an instantaneous flash as it tries to create a window of some sort which is immediately removed I can adjust the screen resolution using the Catalyst control center GUI but the standard Microsoft options to control Wallpaper screen savers themes etc are absent from that GUI display properties missing I am currently running without the Catalyst control center only the driver Problem does NOT occur in Safe Mode Machine Windows XP-Pro SP nearly up to date on Windows updates ATI GPU with latest - driver Much debugging as been related to the Catalyst control center but display properties missing the problem persists even after removing the display driver all catalyst software and running Driver Cleaner run in safe mode and rebooting using default VGA driver Problem is present in a brand new admin user account as well I have also removed all startup programs except maybe the mouse using various startup utilities as well as editing RUN portions in the Registry This machine has never had a malicious malware attack so far as I am aware I don t know when this started but I noticed the inability to set my wallpaper when I recently tried a screen saver program which left me with a blue desktop background Google-ing the problem finds many identical complaints but none of the associated fixes address my problem such as registry display properties missing entries relating to disabling display option tabs or disabling control panel features such as addressed by some of Kelly s Korner register scripts and others Probably unrelated but when I let Windows Update load of the most recent security updates I m mostly up to date one of them kills Internet Explorer which kills Windows Update so I had to do a restore This is potentially a much bigger concern than the missing display GUI Any suggestions will be most appreciated -bob nbsp

You may want to carry out a virus scan, for which Malwarebytes is eminently suitable: Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Your user account may be corrupted so you could try creating a new account to see whether that has the same problem.

go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.

When restarting my PC my monitor wouldn't always start up again. I finally got fed up, took it in to a shop, video card was defective. I had it replaced with a Celestica Radeon 9200. They called me from the shop, said the computer was ready, but that the display was all messed up. I didn't think it'd be that big of a deal to fix, so I took it home. The resolution options are available as a tray icon so that was no problem. But, when I go into display properties, I have no tabs - no desktop, screensaver, bappearance, or settings - all I have is themes. Is this because my old video card messed up Windows (XP Pro)? Everything else seems to be running properly. No viruses, adware or spyware. Is there a registry edit to get these tabs back?

A:Missing Tab in System Properties

Here is a solution that I found.

System Restore Group Policy restrictions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOM
System Restore tab may be missing in My Computer Properties. Also, when you run System

Restore (rstrui.exe), you receive this message:
"System Restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on System Restore, contact your

domain Administrator."

-or-

System Restore Properties page says disabled by Group Policy

RESOLUTION
Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT and press Enter

Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore

In the right-pane:

Delete the value DisableConfig

Delete the value DisableSR

For Windows XP Professional, you can accomplish the above using Group Policy Editor as well.

Click Start, Run and type GPEDIT.MSC

Navigate to this path:

=> Computer Configuration

==> Administrative Templates

===> System

====> System Restore

Double-click Turn off System Restore to Not Configured

Double-click Turn off Configuration to Not Configured

More Information
Turn off System Restore corresponds to DisableSR registry value. With this Policy is turned ON,

the System Restore tab may be missing in My Computer Properties. Also, when you run System

Restore (rstrui.exe), you receive this message:

System Restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on System Restore, contact your

domain Administrator.

Turn off Configuration corresponds to DisableConfig registry value. With this Policy turned ON, the

System Restore tab will remain displayed but the user cannot configure the SR options. It reads

disabled by Group Policy

"Remote" tab missing in My Computer properties

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you right-click My Computer icon in the Desktop and choose Properties, the Remote tab

may be missing. As a result, you may be unable to configure the Remote Assistance / Remote

Desktop settings. To restore the tab, follow these steps:

Click Start, Run and type this command:

regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\remotepg.dll

If you receive an error stating that the module could not be found, or stating no registration

helper is registered for this file type (which indicates a corrupt DLL), extracting a new copy from

XP CD should help. Make sure that you extract the updated copy of the DLL file if you have

applied the XP Service Pack in your system. Register the DLL again.

(Extract the DLL from a Slipstreamed XP CD, or copy the remotepg.dll from ServicePackFiles\i386

folder to Windows\System32 folder)

To extract the DLL from Windows XP CD, type this in Command Prompt

EXPAND X:\I386\REMOTEPG.DL_ -R C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

Where X:\ is your CD-ROM drive letter. The above command assumes Windows is installed in C:\

drive. If not, change the drive letter / Path accordingly.

Example

EXPAND H:\I386\REMOTEPG.DL_ -R G:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

It's kinda' long but it work.

hello tech;
i have a problem with networking three different operating systems through a
linksys wireless G router.
when xp and 2000 are connected they share the internet without any problems. As soon as i add the system with xp64 everything locks up.
i put the static ip address in the router, and all system are set to obtain an
ip address automatically.
also is it possible to run two routers from a dsl modem using the same ip address.
or can i install windows xp on the xp64 system and use xp as the route to
the internet, if so would it be advisible to add another physical hard drive with
xp on it.

any help would be appreciated.

A:problem with network xp64,xp pro, win2000

No you can not run two routers off that modem, but you could dsiable DHCP on the second one and give it a different subset.
I wish I could answer the 64 bit issue but ince my machines will not handle the 64 bit OS (even though I have copies of server and XP) I guess I will just have to wait.
It should work just like 32 bit XP. Can you post the ipconfig /ALL RESULTS?

A:Missing Location tab in folder Properties

Hello Kheyno, and welcome to Vista Forums.

There may have been a mistake made when moving the Videos folder. This should be able to help though.
Backup anything that you do not want to lose in the Videos folder to another location.Restore the default Videos folder location (Option Three).Delete all Videos folders including any at C:\Users\(user-name) and in the Start Menu.Type shell:My Video in the Start Menu search box and press enter.Restart the computer to apply. It may take a couple of times before you see the default Videos folder back. Now try to move the Videos folder to the other location again if you would still like to.Hope this helps,

I'm using a Mac Pro (desktop) but running it exclusively in Windows XP 64-bit. Until recently, all 16 GB of RAM was working correctly. Now however only 8 GB of RAM shows up under system properties and DxDiag. However, CPU-Z from CPUID shows 8 slots of memory each with 2 GB (which is indeed what is loaded). Why is there this discrepancy and how can I make the machine use all of it again? Thanks.

A:Memory missing from system properties

Has the machine been moved? Even though some software is correctly reporting the memory it would be worthwhile opening it up and checking all the sticks of memory are firmly pushed down and correctly seated in the slots. I'd guess the different software has different methods of querying the system properties. Some might actually query the memory, others might just query what the bios reports which might register the ram details even if it isn't functioning properly.

I was looking to change the settings in my windows7 internet properties security tab because when I try to force quit and restore windows explorer to fix a missing windows icons issue, I was getting a message that "These files can't be opened: Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened"
I found the following link to help fix my issue: [Updated] These files can

But I am unable access some important options because the security options box is missing some items, as seen in the screenshots below

Does anyone have an idea what may have happened, and how I can restore functionality? I can't for the life of me figure out how this happened. I never use Internet Explorer, just Chrome and Firefox. If not for the missing icon issue, I probably never would have found out about this issue.

A:Internet Properties missing functionality

Hello and welcome hombre I am a little puzzled as to why you have internet properties yet mine opens as internet options.

But I guess that might be a regional variation though I don't know why?

But one you can try is running this and run it for about three scans

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
