I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Nero Burning ROM crashed during burning and now my DVD drive is unusable. I cannot open the drive, I cannot shut down the computer because it says "Waiting for DVD Drive D:" and the drive runs like it is still burning despite the program doing the burning is no longer open. It isn't even in any process. What can I do to make the drive stop?

A:Nero Burning ROM crashing caused perpetual burning from DVD Drive

Go to Task Manager...shut the system down from there.
Turn system off....hard shutdown if necessary...disconnect the optical drive.
Sounds to me like it's a hardware problem moreso than a software problem if you cannot manually open the drive.

I would be gratefull for help, just a week or two my inside and outside (USB) recorders started to work extremly slow.
Using Nero 14 i can see the real recording speed 800 - 1 500 kB/s when using 16x (22 160 kB/S). My usb samsung blu-ray recorder also work very slow - data fo 25 Gb disc takes about 4 hours.
It is a new machine, 16 Gb RAM, 3770K on board so it is a fast one but recording...
I tried deinstaling IDE i decice manager.
I tried Ashampoo, CDburnerXP - all the same.
During recording HDD 0 (c shows 1% usage.
No software in background - just Kaspersky

DVD and Blu-ray have no errors - veryfication ok, surface test also - only very slow.
Tested media: TDK, Sony, Panasonic (all 16x for dvd and 6x for blu-ray)

Please help

When I burn cd/dvds with Windows 7 built in burning software and windows media player all my burns are successful. When I try to use Nero, CD Burner XP or imgburn, it fails. My computer is plenty fast enough(2.8ghz, 4gb ddr2, 250gb sata hd) and I tried reinstalling windows 7 without nero or deamon tools and tested with CD Burner XP, it still failed. I am using Sony blank CD's and also tried a few other name brand. I am burning at the lowest speeds. I purchased a brand new dvd burner and the firmware is up to date. The error I am getting is "Could not write to Disc". It fails randomly anywhere from 3%-30%. Any ideas? Again, windows 7 native burning works fine but other software does not. Same pc, same blanks, same burner, same hardware just different software. Any Ideas at all?

Ok, i'm new to this CD Burning. I have Nero Express, and i'm having a little problem with it.

I've copied an Audio CD to a CD-R, and it plays fine, but there are still space on it, and i wanted to put a MP3 (it converts to CDA really nice also) together with the already burned tracks, but i can't. Everytime i put the same CD, i get the folloqing message:

"This midia cannot be recorded
Please Insert another midia."

(Sorry if it's not right, cuz i translated from portuguese)

Can i do what i want?? How??

Sorry if it is hard to understand, it is hard to explain.

Thank you

A:Audio CD Burning with Nero Burning Rom

You cannot append any audio files to an disc that has been completed. Once a disc is completed it cannot access the remaining space. Especially with Nero Express. Once a disc is burned it is "closed (finalized)."

This is just a simple explanation.

I believe Roxio's Easy cd creator lets you add files to your disc as long as you don't "finalize" it. Until you finalize it you will not be able to listen to the music.

Have been burning CDs through Windows Media Player forever; no problems. Suddenly, when I choose 'Burn CD', nothing happens. No error messages.

BUT, when I choose a previous playlist to burn, it works. The non-burn problem seems limited to only recently downloaded music playlists. These same playlists do play on my computer, so they're obviously recorded and working.

Hi to all,
Here's a strange one, I've just re-formatted my hard drive and re-installed xp ( not the first time, I prefer this to restore ) anyway I've tried to burn three music disc's using new blank cd-r's. I go through all the motions ( using nero 5.5 ) I do my compilation as normal, hit burn and nero " burns " the disc. When I try and play the disk on my walkman I can skip through the track numbers but get no sound. When I check it out on my pc in my computer it says Free space 0 bytes, Total size 0 bytes. I am sure this is not a hardware problem so what else could it be ?

I've been recording sucessfully with the same set up and software in the past, any suggestions welcome and appreciated.

A:burning a cd

Perhaps you are running out of disk space ?
Burning programs use a temporary folder for all the stuff that's being burnt.
If the temporary files fill up all the diskspace, then you can't burn any further.
Make sure you delete the temporary files after burning (If the program doesn't do it
for you)

Call Microsoft, tell them you lost your disk, they might be able to send you another if you can prove to them you bought it. If its a store bought comp without a official XP install disk then you will have to call the manufacturer of the computer and ask for restore disks for your model comp.

Chances are , that when you burn your cds, you click on "Burn Disk", when you should set it up to "Burn Session". I've never tried this with a dvd, so I'm not sure if you can burn sessions on a dvd. I know you can burn a +R dvd, and not finalize it until later. Maybe that's how you do it on a dvd? I think this only works with +R media..............

A:DVD burning

Well for number one I'm wondering what size those 13 files were in aggregate, what did the DVD maker produce and what size was that production (because sometimes the original files are included on the disc) so if the size of whatever was burned to the DVD was 4.08 gigs or larger, that's a full single sided DVD and the reason it only used 13.
Number 2, I'm assuming DVD maker made slideshow video(s)? IF so that's pretty standard operating procedure. A lot of DVD players (you'd have to check the specs to be sure) will play back data discs with folder structured jpeg format photos so that's one possibility.
Otherwise you need to do some pre-processing of your photos to allow for selecting a set for playback much like selecting a chapter in a movie--you'll need to author a DVD in the same way where each chapter would be one set of your photos you want to playback. Specific sofware programs like Premiere Elements and Studio allow for arrangement, chaptering and authoring all in one continuous multi-stepping process but you can also put together video clip slideshows of your photos in groups and save them as DV-AVI files from Windows Movie Maker. Then with a program like DVDFlick you can arrange those video clips as desired and set the program to create a new chapter or "next" point with each video. The makers of DVDFlick are working on a version that will also alow you to write a menu on the disc as well but for now that program is limited by that aspect. Of course the two pay-for programs above allow for easy menu selectable chaptering which is probably more along the lines of what you're looking for.

One of my kids wanted some video of skateboarders, so I downloaded quite a few small free clips but am having a problem burning them to DVD.

They are .mov, .mp4, .wmv, and .m4v formats. I have quite a few burning programs both downloaded and preinstalled but none seem to want to work.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I burn CD/DVD's often but have been having the issue of not being able to see whats on the cd/dvd unless I reboot my whole system. Can anyone tell me how to rectify this issue??

A:CD/DVD Burning

I can't say I have ever heard of that before. My only guess is that your system files have become corrupt. Technichally your in the wrong forum for that though and should post in software, but if that isn't the problem it would be hardware.

My recommendation would be too reinstall your burning software first, just in case those files have become corrupt.

If that doesn't solve your problem, I would try repairing windows. You will need your windows installation disk for this.

If you perform the wrong action you will wipe everything off of your computer.

To repair windows: Insert your Windows installation disk into your CD-Rom and reboot.
If your Bios are set to boot from CD-ROM it it boot from disk, othrewise your would have to change your bios. After windows boots from disk it should ask you if you want to reinstall, repair, or install a fresh copy of windows. Make sure you click to repair windows. Then select your operating system and tell it to repair.

Burned CD and notice it saved songs as MP3. However, when I put CD in my CD at home, the CD doesn't play songs 'right away.' I have to wait a few seconds for each song to play.
Should songs have been save in MP3 format, or should they have been saved in another format, etc.?
I am new at this so not too sure of what I am doing.
The burning was done in Windows Media Player 10 (can't install 11 on this notebook for some unknown reason).
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Yes, it's a two second gap. And I think in Windows Media Player 10 you can't edit the gap times. You can in iTunes though.

Hope someone can help. I'm rather new to burning music. I've joined a club so I can buy tracks. I don't have a problem with arranging and burning my playlist, and the cd plays just fine. But every cd that I burn starts from the end when I put it in my stereo, car or any other device. Since its at the end of the songs it won't play until I select the track 1 so it will start at the begining of the songs. I've used a couple of programs for burning and everyone of them do this to my cd. Right now I'm using windows media player 10 (my os is xp) How can I fix this when burning so the cd will start from track one when I go to play it? thank you, -rjmitch

You may want to visit the TSG rules:

Category I Offenses
Minor and Sometimes Unintentional Annoyances

Circumventing Copy Protection - While we believe it's reasonable to make backup copies of CDs and DVDs that you own, a lot of people break copy protection for the wrong reasons. The law is still vague, at best, as to if it is legal to break copy protection in order to make such a backup, even for personal use. (The DMCA, for example, seems to make it illegal.) As a result, we do not allow discussion of how to break copy protection at this time. If we can find a nice way to draw the line, we may reconsider this in the future as laws get sorted out.

Hi all,

First of all I hope I'm posting in the right forum!! Anyway, I am the using Nero StartSmart 'Burn DVD-Video Files' to try and create a DVD that will play in a DVD player from a .avi file. The problem is that when I drag the file I want to burn in the appropriate section the 'burn' option is not highlighted. I then tried the 'Make Video CD' option; in this case the file is then too large for the blank DVD disc.

Could it be i need to convert the .avi file to a different one?

Any help is much appreciated!

Hello, I have a HP CD-Writer Series 82000e plus and I have having trouble burning a cd.
I have had "Buffer underruns" which I understand somewhat. I don't know if it is caused by the writer or the disc is to fast.

The writer burns at 4x600 kbs, or 2x300 or 1x150 kbs. I am assuming that the 4x600 is the slower speed. I have noticed that when the cd starts to burn it gives a burn time of approx. 16 minutes, however when time gets within 4minutes left it fails.

I might mention that I am using nero smart start-with cdRomburn..

It was suggested that maybe the discs I am using are high speed discs. I don't know enough about that to figure this out. I am using memorex CD-R52x700mb's 80 mins.

I wonder if someone could give me some advice.

A:Burning CD's

The slowest speed is the 1 x 150.

What are the specifications of the PC that you are using to do the burning with?

The buffer under-run is where the PC cannot keep up with the data required.

Also you should never use the PC for any other task when burning.

Is this an external or internal CD drive? What WIndows version?

To back up a DVD film, you use DVD shrink to store the film on hardrive, then use Nero Burn or Roxio to copy the film in a DVD. Using DVD shrink, you could also change the total size of the film to the size of one CD, then you could use Nero to burn it on a CD. You could also want to try DVD Ripper to rip a DVD to a CD.

If you're referring to copying DVDs then yes you would . If you're asking burning .iso files no just right click on the file and choose Burn image to disc .

You would need two drives to copy the DVDs though . Unless you want to copy the files to the hard drive then burn the files to a DVD . You could use Windows 7 to do that . A lot of people use third party software like Roxio or Nero .

Is that normal or should it be something other.Any help Please.Should I have used another program for the job?
Thank You.

A:Burning iso to hdd

I would have used ImgBurn.

It's a 2 part procedure:

You first create an image file from the contents of the original DVD. It should be saved on your hard drive as an ISO file, not 7 zip.

You then write (burn) that ISO file to a fresh blank disk.

Above is a link that takes you through it, including getting ImgBurn.

I know nothing about DVD Fab, so don't know where you went wrong.

It is possible there is an ISO file inside that 7 zip file. You'd have to unzip it to find out. If it is an ISO inside, then all you'd have to do is burn that ISO to a disc.

Then of course confirm that it will in fact boot your PC and begin the install procedure.

There are several out there some freewae adn some you have to pay for. DVD shrink and DVD Decrypter are two freeware programs. but they are discontinued and are not being updated. of the pay for programs I prefer the combo of CloneDVD2 (from elaborateBytes or slysoft) and AnyDVD. CloneDVD2 does the transcoding and burning but does not bypass any copy protections. ( which is why the program is legal.) AnyDVD is installed and runs in the background and strips copy protections from movies or audio CD's on the fly. you can get the combo of CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD at and if you buy them together you get a discount.

I tried to put a file that was 23 MB on a CD-RW that I had already saved to and it said that all the files were "read-only". Not only that, the whole drive seems to be "read-only". Does anyone know how to change that? Also, I tried to put a NEW cd-rw in the burn drive and the drive doesn't recognize that there's anything in there. When I put it in the D drive it says that the cd isn't formatted. All I want to do is put this one video file on a cd and it seems like a terrible hassle. Help?

A:CD burning...

Yes it can be changed.

Put the disc in the drive.
MY Computer> Right click on the drive > Open> Right click the file> Properties> at the bottom change from read only.

Copy that file back to your hard drive.
Format the disc and then send both of your files back to the disc a once.
BUT dont "trust" CD-RW discs. They are shakey at best. Do yourself a favor and copy this to a CDR if you really need to be sure.
