I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Looks alright. Don't know why you're getting such a high output PSU though, unless you get more GPUs.

besides changing the case if you change the mb and if the os is oem, then you will also have to replace it. looking over the specs, I would not put any money into it - Too old.

I have a pretty old computer.. it was made by a local company in 98, its a p3 551mhz, 128 mb ram, 20 gig hd, win98se, RAGE IIC AGP as my video card.

Now, I was wondering if it would be better overall to upgrade the ram to 256 mb, install a p4 3ghz(give or take) processor and get a new graphics card or would a new computer be better?

A few months ago I called the store where I got my computer and they said that I couldn't upgrade any video cards.. i was a little skeptical on their answer because a have a friend who upgraded his graphics card on his computer, also from 98 but different company, last year and it worked fine.

A:[Upgrade] Time for some new parts.

There is no system that will run bf3 perfectly on ultra.
It runs fine on high on my own system which is terribly outdated. (minus a somewhat recently upgraded graphics card)

I have never heard of something 'requiring overclocking' such a thing would be absolutely ridiculous.

Some things that might be useful in getting suggestions though.
What is more important for your hard drives, speed or storage space?
My honest opinion is you should just keep the ram you have for now, or just replace with 8 gigs of the same.
Your biggest hold up is you are using a 32inch display.
This is going to make graphics all the more picky.
I personally have access to a 42inch display but actually use my little 24 inch asus as it seems to render cleaner.

I upgrade in the following

CPU Every Second Release as performance is normally 10-15% better with AMD

Graphics Upgrade When Needed/ Meaning If i notice capability issues and/or Problems with games on Ultra Settings

Ram Upgrade only if there is an improvement that is noticeable with System/PC which 9 out of 10 there is no difference Only on BENCHMARKS

Motherboard Upgrade only when CPU has changed to a different Socket Type

PSU Upgrade minimal/ when its required and 100% needed i will upgrade

I as most people don't have money just sitting there. I just don't get why you would get every next release for such a small improvement Meaning lets say someone had the FX-8150 and then decided to buy the next FX-8350 for such a small increase in speeds

I wanna know People's Thoughts on this and would you consider yourself to be a component Upgrade *Freak

*sorry if this offends anyone

Hello Updated the CPU on a M58p (9964, small form factor version) to a Q9650.  Updated the heatsink to the 43N9874 part (see FRU number on the fan housing) which looks to be the correct part from the description at:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd002482  However, I can't keep the system cool (tried reseating a couple times with different thermal greases, no real change).  I saw another part on the list, 41R6454, which is listed as a "95W thermal kit".  Is that somehow different than the heatsink?  I can't find a picture of it anywhere to know if its maybe the 'missing' part to keeping this system cooled down. Thanks!

A:Difference between parts for a M58p CPU upgrade

Just a follow up... Still don't know what the other part number is, but I've been able to get the system to 'keep cool' by moving the thermal sensor from its original location next to the speaker, back to behind the CPU heatsink.  No idea how a thermal sensor out in front of all the heat producing parts is meant to signal the system to increase the fan speed, but placing it just behind the heat sink now has the fan rpms changing with increasing CPU load and keeping the system in the upper 30s at idle, and upper 50s under load.

A:Recommended Parts for a new Processor Upgrade.

The only one who can tell you IF you can use that cpu is acer. Big box systems use proprietary parts ie the mb is made to acer standards NOT industry standards.

Unless that cpu was an option for your system when you purchased it, my guess is that the bios does not support it however you need to check with the system maker.

In addition the 955 is a 125W cpu so most likely the mb does not have the necessary VRs to pw that cpu; again ask acer.

Hi!
I want upgrade my PC some parts including "Processor,VGA etc" so i want select most suitable parts. So are there're any special utility software for that? If so please tell me it name or download link.

A:How to select suitable PC parts for Upgrade?

Software, no. The hardware manufacturer, Google and common sense; yes.

In your case you start with the motherboard,

Support for the Intel? Desktop Board DG31PR

and then see what its CPU support is,

Intel? Processors and Boards Compatibility Tool - Search Results Page

As far as a video card goes, as long as you have a PCI-E x16 slot available and enough room inside the case depending on the size of the card, whatever you want based on what you plan on doing with it and how much you're willing to spend. Depending on what card you want, you may also have to factor in a new power supply if the current one isn't up to running the video card (as well as everything else inside the computer).

My friend has an Acer X3400 (slimline so smaller than standard desktops and normal stuff will not fit in it) and is playing SWTOR and needs a new video card has it runs on a on-board Geforce 9200 and will need a bigger power supply prob. as it has only a 220 power supply in it - I was like wt... has his computer is only a year old. Coupe Questions:

1. if went from 4GB of RAM to 8GB (the max it can have) will we beable to allocate RAM to the video card?,

2. what video card (remember good for gaming) and power supply do you recommend?

David

A:Acer X3400 parts upgrade

You shouldn't allocate system ram for a video card while playing games but you can in many cases I think. The new video card should come with it's own ram for its exclusive use. You'll need to find a half-height video card to fit in that case. Most gaming cards aren't half-height.

There are plenty of small PSUs that can provide power for a small video card. Which power supply he gets depends on how much space is actually available for a new PSU and the power requirements for the new video card and probably a few other factors I haven't considered yet.

If that is the back of your friends computer I don't think the power supply easily comes off. The power socket seems to be built into the case. You'd probably need a BTX case & power supply and then you could go nuts with a new video card. Even if you did get a new case, you wouldn't have a back plate to put in place. See the number 10. It seems to be built into the case and would make replacing the power supply difficult. That may be an ATX motherboard in a BTX case; I can't tell from here.

Before you throw out your old, dead hard drives, dismantle them and recover the magnets inside.

Some of the most powerful magnets known to man are inside.

A couple of cute little motors too, but they don't like to come out easily.

A:Fun parts inside old parts

I agree, just don't put the magnets together with your fingers in the middle of them !

Not sure if this belongs here.

I've looked around in old boxes and stuff (cardboard) of my dad's and have noticed a whole lot of old parts laying around.

Instead of letting them just sit there getting outdated I want to do something with them, make something. Whatever but have had no ideas.

SO what do you people do with old parts?

A:What to do with old parts?

If they're usuable like CD-ROMs, floppy drives, hard drives - recycle them in new builds. Even older, lower capacity hard drives can be used as external drives with a USB to IDE adapter.

If not, sell 'em on ebay. That's what I do.
I used to run a computer salvage business years ago.
When I retire from the military in the next few years, I might get back into it.

I am looking for spring loaded push lock fasteners that are used to secure heatsinks and coolers to video cards, chipsets, etc. I am familiar with the following items, but I prefer straight spring loaded pins without the bow.

I am familiar with everything located here;

http://www.performance-pcs.com/cata..._in_description=1&keyword=push+lock+fasteners

and here;

http://www.xsfans.com/4pack-ziotek-...6.html?zenid=e601f24968cc7718e8d18c314b77cc3a

I know I can secure the coolers with thermal adhesive so you don't have to recommend that since I have plenty of thermal adhesive.

If you happen to be familiar with a company that stocks the pins without a bow, if you would post a link to the website it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Everybody,
Ok I was thinking about buliding a low-end computer just for Internet use for my father. I already have a mointer, keyboard, mouse, speakers, cd-rw drive, 250w p/s. I dont want a floppy drive in it. And the motherboard doesnt have to have intergrated ethernet becuase I also have an pci ethernet card. I dont want a dial-up modem in it either.

So basicly what recommendation for a case, motherboard and cpu. Also the motherboard has to have intergrated sound and video. I am guessing a celeron cpu? Also what ram should I get in terms of how many mb or gb's. Is 256mb of ram enough?

Thank you very much techspot members

So, decided I should do a little outside the case upgrading. Problem is, since most of my expertise is on case hardware, I have no clue whats good, or where to buy said items im looking for, so hoping someone can help me out.

Parts I'm looking for is new speakers, new mouse/keyboard, and a webcam. I'm looking for something good, reliable and does the job, some fancy perks would be nice, but nothing wallet breaking. I don't wanna spend $1000 on them, but preferably less then say ooh $300-$400 max, any less and it be better.. The ones I have now, are your basic Walmart bottom barrel ones, they work, but my mouse is already going out and my speakers sound like they're on the way out as well. So any advice, on what kind, where to buy online, so on and so forth would be greatly appreciated.

Sent my IBuypower PC in when it wouldn't boot. They told me the motherboard, video card and liquid cooling system all dead. Around $500 just for parts. Machine cost $1200 and is 2 years 8 months old.

2 issues is smarter to a whole new machine or rebuild with oem parts. Their service was horrible so I'll have to do the rebuild.

Also can I place the hard drives from this machine into an external case and still run the programs and access the data.

PSU, Mobo and Case must be ATX

Type of RAM module must be supported by mobo

FSB of RAM and CPU shouldn't be higher than mobo's FSB

CPU socket type must match that of the motherboard...

graphics card you want must also be able to be used on the motherboard (PCI-E or AGP, etc)

mobo and PSU have same number of pins (for mobo power socket)

Is this all right, or am I missing something else? Thanks!

The power-on-but-no-post symptom could be remedied by powering the barebone up outside of the case. It could be a shorting somewhere.

Updating the BIOS of your new board may correct the wrong CPU read-out.

A:Need advice on these parts

Can you provide a link to the desktop you purchased? Dell Inspiron 660's have various options that can be chosen by consumers through Dell.

---------------------------------------------------------

If your budget is up to $300, I highly suggest the EVGA GeForce GTX 660Ti. It's what I'm using in my custom PC and have been able to run all games on high.

Having said that, you need to make sure of a few things with this graphics card, and any others you might be looking at purchasing:

1) Is your PSU powerful enough?

2) Will the card fit in your case?

3) Does your PSU and motherboard have the necessary connections to power the card?

---------------------------------------------------------

I owned a Dell Inspiron 530s which I tried upgrading the graphics card for a couple years back. The dimensions of the graphics card I purchased were too big for the case, and my power supply wasn't strong enough to power the card even if it could have fit.

Thanks Danboy

A:Computer Parts

well if you are building a computer, the basics you need are

1. a tower with a decent powersupply 500wats or better 50-60$
or more

2. motherboard and processor of your choosing that is in your budget 180-500$ or more

3. the fastest ram that will work for your motherboard that is in your budget at least 512 megs = 30=100$

4. a hard drive. i feel for right now 40-80 gig is plenty 40-200$

5. at least a cd rom. and a floppy drive if you have a windows that needs floppies for cdrom 20-50$ floppy drive 5-30$

6. (opitional) if you want high speed internet you will need a lan card (unless built in to the motherboard) or a modem if you have dial up internet. 10-40$

7.(opitional)sound card if you do not get a motherboard that does not have a sound chip built in you will need a sound card. 10-300$
the above is in my opinion what you need for a basic computer.

most computer parts come with an antistatic bag. so just keep dry and in a place where they wont get crunched (or you can start puting the computer together your parts should be safe in your tower )

A:Check these parts before i buy...

All those parts look good and compatible to me. I can't really advise you on a PSU though.

Edit: Go to http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ and it will tell you the minimum wattage for the system. Then go to new-egg and get a good PSU of that wattage (preferably a bit higher).

Edit2: It says 300 watts but I would get a 350 or 400 to be safe.

I've finally decided to get a new computer. I want to game on it, so I was originally going to go with an Alienware, but they seem kind of overpriced to me. I thought it'd be cheaper if I built one myself, and I'd learn things too.

So, if I have a budget of about $2000, what's the best system I can make? I don't know anything about recent advances in hardware, so I don't know what processor or video card or RAM or what-have-you is the new standard of awesome.

Thanks a lot for any suggestions

A:New PC, are the parts compatible?

No idea on the site, but we can help you with compatibility anyway.

You've listed the GPU as a GTX 560, but the link is a GTX 560 TI -- which is different. The TI is very good, whereas the non-TI might be found wanting in some games. The build looks nice, but I think we need to know what games you would like to play, and at what resolutions. Reason for this is you might find your graphics card choice to be a little underpowered, dependent on your expectations.

Do you plan to overclock your system, or run it at standard clocks?

It really depends what you want the machine for - The weak points I see with the current machine:Video card is low end so not really suitable for gamingPower supply is cheap and not something I would trust4gb RAM is somewhat low these daysOnly has a mechanical hard driveSo I'd look into upgrading one or more of the above depending on what you want from the machine.  For gaming you would need to get a better video card (and a power supply from a reputable brand, don't trust the one it has with any sort of decent video card).  An SSD to hold your operating system and programs would help it start up and launch programs faster (and generally feel more responsive in general use).  RAM is bearable if you aren't doing loads of multitasking but if you find yourself running low on RAM it could be worth looking into bumping this up to 8gb.As to what parts to go for it really depends on what you want to upgrade along with your budget.

By using defraggler, i recently found out that the page file on my os disk is split into two parts. I wonder if this may impact system performance and if so, if there is a fix. The file is 1.5 gb.

A:Pagefile in two parts, why?

Not sure at all...what you mean.

Are you talking physical location on the hard drive...or are you referring to two locations for "pagefile" on the hard drive when looking via Explorer?

All files...may not necessarily be in one contiguous location...that's what fragmentation is.

I just bought a new monitor to replace my old Samsung 191T LCD.

I want to pass on the 191T to my daughter, but the menu buttons on the screen don't work. I'd like to pass on a fully functional monitor. I took it apart and found that the flex ribbon cable connected to the PCB Assembly (for the panel menu buttons) was loose and one of the wires from the connection had broken off.

I essentially need that flex cable or preferably the entire flex cable and assembly.

I tried googling for LCD parts, but didn't really find anyone selling parts. In fact, several LCD repair places wouldn't sell parts. Anyone know where I can find parts besides eBay.

Hi everyone I am building a new system and I am deliberating over a couple of components I was wondering whether to go for this Leadtek graphics card http www ebuyer com product or this Inno one http www ebuyer com product They are both gts I am just wondering which one is better and what warranty I will get on each of them Also I am thinking of getting this cooler http www ebuyer com product but I am also thinking about this one http www ebuyer com product I may wish to do some overclocking on to parts buy Opinions so I am not sure which one I Opinions on parts to buy should get Also I am getting this case and PSU http www ebuyer com product However I have been advised to possibly get this PSU but I am not sure http www ebuyer com product I would just like some thoughts on these because once I have decided I can then go ahead and buy the parts to build my new system Thanks for any advice it Opinions on parts to buy is much appreciated Gareth nbsp

A:Opinions on parts to buy

I'd get the Leadtek card. I've never heard of that other brand, but Leadtek has a pretty good reputation. Plus it's 10 cheaper.

As for CPU coolers, I'd choose the AC cooler. The Freezers are really good.

That case comes with a decent PSU. Coolermaster makes good stuff. Technically the Corsair is a slightly better unit, but I don't think you'll be gaining THAT much by spending the money you don't have to.

A:building a pc i have parts what else do i need??

Personally and experience I would not use that board at all I would go with Asus.MSI DFI or even Chaintech Do a search on newegg for a board .The board you picked is real cheap and you get what you pay for remember the motherboard should be as good as the cpu you place in there and a good motherboard will last a lot longer and give you better overall proformance .ALso go with a good brand name power supply like Thermotake OCZ Antech to name a few jsut becuse the powersupply says 550w dont mean it is this all has to do with effiecenty.. As for your ram any brand Kingston ,Cosiar OCZ Geial all very good brands.

Hello,

What's a good program to split a PDF file?

For example, I have a 100 page file, but only really need pages 65 - 90, how do I save these pages separately?

Thanks.

A:Splitting PDF into parts

1) You can do it quite easily in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Use the "Document-> Extract Pages..." menu item. Then Drag and drop pages into another document from the "Pages" navigation tab.

2) There are many, many 3rd party products for splitting PDFs. Just do a web search on "Split PDF".

well I recently found a poor little computer sitting on the side of the road. being the person I am, I decided to take the little guy home and give him another chance at life.

thing is, I quickly got bored with the terrible components and have since come to the conclusion to put the damn thing out of it's misery.

here is my question to you though.

What can I do with these old crappy parts?

Can I take a Hard Drive and RAM from one computer and put it into another and how do I use both HHD one is 98 and the other is XP.On the 98 HHD I can't get online but can with the XP

Also in the computer with XP (thats the one I am wanting to put parts into) there are 3 slots for the memory how can i tell which sticks have more RAM So I can install more RAM

A:Take parts from one computer and put into another

You can install the ram ONLY if it is the correct type ie ddr1, ddr2, etc.

Next you can connect a drive to a working system and copy data files. If you think you will be able to boot the system from the drive you add, almost all of the time that will fail.

A:Opinon On these parts

Budget build, use budget RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184
Big no to ECS motherboards, if you're going to use one, go ahead and buy a Dell or something. If you're reasonable, get this instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128379
Same goes for the Case+PSU thingy. Get a quality PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008 and one of these cases: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144217 (least recommended, still, okay) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146025
Montitor, better bang per buck here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009166
Gaming PC needs a decent graphics card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161252 or if you want to save, and don't fancy Stalker CS, then this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125244 (use the rebates to your advantage)

Hi,
Im upgrading my pc with the following parts and just want to double check they are compatible before buying them.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148025
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/155158
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/2161/14...archtype=genre

Also, is there any better alternatives at a similar price? (I live in the UK)

Thanks
Eomel.

A:Are these parts compatible?

They are compatible, HOWEVER, the motherboard needs a BIOS flash before it supports the CPU. It is also possible that it's impossible to flash the BIOS without a natively supported CPU, like this one: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135662
Motherboards supporting AM2+ CPUs straight out of the box are expensive, so your best shot is either borrowing one of the 7309v90 BIOS supported CPUs, (check here: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1472&maincat_no=1#menu ) or crossing your fingers and hoping the Kuma will be recognized as an Unidentified CPU, and works for the time of the BIOS flash. Or then get that 5200+. It will be a bit slower but... Up to you.

Trying to cut cost by using old psu but not sure if its safe to use on all this new gen equipment.

Also does this all look gravy for compatibility? Any suggestions or recommended changes? Is windows 7 better to have to run quadcore/games better or can i stick with xp? thanks

Hi guys, its me again, quick question if the following parts will work on my mb.

http://www.foxconnsupport.com/cpusupportlist.aspx?type=mb&model=A74ML-K&cputype=

This is the processor support list for the mb.

And i found this, rather cheap but used processor on ebay :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMD-Pheno...Computing_CPUs_Processors&hash=item3cd5d3ac2f

Will this processor work together with my MB?

On top of that, will this graphics card work?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Asus-AMD-...raphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item1e7e1af9fe

Lastly, if they do work together and my MB, what power supply do you reccomend?

CPU: http://redirectingat.com/?id=951X49...com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103649 $119

Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...5&cm_re=Radeon_HD_5770-_-14-121-355-_-Product $174.99

Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...3&cm_re=WD_Caviar_Blue-_-22-136-113-_-Product $44.99

RAM: http://redirectingat.com/?id=951X49...com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231193 $95.99

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066 $49.95

Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004&Tpk=550VX $89.99

Unfortunately the graphics card, CPU, and motherboard are no longer available on newegg.

A:Certain parts no longer available

What is your question? Do you want suggestions for substitutes or are you asking someone else to find it for you?

BTW, the motherboard, CPU and RAM links are bad. Notice they all start with "redirectingat.com," not newegg.com. Regarding the graphics card, perhaps you can find another HD Radeon 5770 you can live with. Also, there are other outlets besides Newegg.
