Hope this is the right spot to post this! I have an HP pavillion notebook. The harddrive crashes due to a power surge in Italy. I had the recovery cds, but then found out my cd dvd player was inoperable as well. The computer place could not fix it. SO I brought it back to america. Now I cannot find my recovery cds!!! I wanted to put in the new hard drive and replace the cd dvd player, and recover my system. Now what can I do? Hp says they no longer have these recovery cds. Is my computer useless. I just bought it 2 yrs ago but it was refurbished. I spent quite a bit of money on it..about 1400 or so and do not want to have to throw it away and buy a new one.
Thanks for your help!!!!!!
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I managed to install windows 7 on a HP Pavilion g7-2293nr Notebook PC that came with W8 installed originally. I cannot access the internet or any USB connectors. I have been attempting to install drivers using the DVD drive, I tried about 25 HP drivers - non of them work. Where do find the right drivers???

You might NOT be able to do that -- simply because laptops use specialized hardware which often requires specialized drivers -- and not every Win8 laptop is downgradeable to Win7. You should check the HP Support forums -- the HP reps there have access to driver downloads that are not available to the public: Contact HP Customer Support | HP? Customer Support
Hello, I want to upgrade RAM in my laptop to 2*8GB. Does motherboard support this amount of memory? If understand correctly, the model of my motherboard is HP 183E (U3E1) but I failed to find its specification in web. Thanks in advance.
Here are the official specs: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03362719 The motherboard basically is the laptop model. Laptops are designed from the ground up by the manufacturer so there is no set of motherboard specifications separate from the laptop itself. The specs say 8 gigs maximum, but it is a 3rd generation Intel Core processor. However, the Service Manual, which is usually more reliable than the specifications, also says 8 gigs maximum and does not specify a compatible 8 gig module. Service Manual Even Crucial says 8 gigs maximum and they conduct ongoing tests because if they can sell you bigger modules they want to be able to do that. http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/pavilion-g6-2132tx So, bottom line, I think it might take 2 x 8 gig modules but it would be a big gamble and I would assume it can only take 2 x 4 gigs. My laptop has been crashing the last 2 days for no reason. Sometimes Vista does not even start and all I see is the dreaded BSOD. Attached is the minidump. Appreciate any and all help
Hello KingofQueens and welcome to the forums
We have a great BSOD team here at VF and I'm sure they'll be able to assist you. To help them, and speed things up a bit, lets try and get some more details
1. Have you got any RAID configurations set up? If you don't know what it means, then probably not!
2. Can you please fill out your system specs? Use Speccy if you don't know what they are
My laptop was getting very very hot, and than the screen went blank with coloured dots on the screen.Could not shut down nor start up..The repair engineer said that the problem is the sholdering on the mother board which has melted or come loose.
Hp had put the fans to maximun capacity so the problem was not immediate visable. Phoned hp who blamed Nvidia for this as the part is Nvidia's. I bought this laptop in Malaysia and we are living in UK.
Uk says that hp malaysia should deal with this., though HP is international.
This is manufacturing fault, and i beleive that there should be a re-call or Hp should repair this fault. We are not to know where the Hp gets its part.
Any one ....what do I do....or How can it be repaired.
Case in USA, where it went against Nvidia....what about in UK or Malaysia.
Can we sue these countries???:
Can we get this series laptop repaired ......the screen after getting heated up has gone blank and has coloured dots accross it.
Can we sue Hp or Nvidia for this motherboard shouldering problem

Hello I was wondering if someone could help me I have a HP Pavillion laptop and my screen is black It won t boot up using F safe mode Laptop and HP external HD Pavillion or F F HP Pavillion Laptop and external HD A friend of mine told me that I could rule out if it was truly the monitor by trying to HP Pavillion Laptop and external HD hook up a monitor to the laptop and see if i saw anything NO LUCK there either I will be shipping the laptop back to HP since it is still under warranty not even a year old Although since I had personal information on my HD I removed the HD before shipping which was OK by HP When I get the laptop back would I be able to boot up from an external HD As I was thinking of possibly getting one so that if I ever ran into this problem again I could always use my desktop with the external HD while the laptop was getting repaired Or does anyone have any other suggestions Please advise Thanks Audrey nbsp
No, you can't boot from an external hard disk. I still recommend the hard disk, since you can do image backups with something like Acronis True Image and restore in a few minutes from the external disk.
i recived this laptop yesterday which i bought online and as soon as i turned it on it was just really slow on every thing, and i was trying to do some work and when i tried saving it i went to new folder and it just froze there and i lost my uni assignment and some applications dont open, i thought it would run smooth and fast as its a brand new laptop
Dear Customer. There is different ways of steps to improve performance on your computer .I would recommend checking your hard drive space ? you should have at least 15% free space available, preferably more for best performance. If you have a lot of large media files (movies, photos, music) stored on your hard drive, moving those to an external hard drive can help speed things up. Also empty your recycle bin to free up space. Here are some other tips: Update software and drivers using HP Support Assistant and Windows UpdateUpdate the BIOSDefragment the hard drive (do NOT defrag if your computer has a solid state drive [SSD], because this can damage it)Run a virus scan and remove viruses/spywareClose any apps you aren?t actively using, and try not to leave a lot of things open at onceUse Task Manager to identify what is using the most system resourcesClean the computer fans and vents to reduce heatUpgrade memoryThese solutions are explained in detail, along with other helpful suggestions, in the following documents: Computer Is Slow (Windows 10)Computer Is Slow (Windows 8)Computer Is Slow (Windows 7) Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Hi, Looking for an alternative charger for my HP Pavillion x2 laptop. I read & aware HP restrict what chargers can be used and looking for something that is more portable than the current mains charger Ideally a battery pack and usb-c cable if HP certify anything like that ? Thankshttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Pavillion-x2-Laptop-Charger/td-p/5644751
I turn it on and it starts on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, continuesly.
I took out battery, turned on only AC plugged and still do same thing.
Wont boot on.
It could be over heating. Do you have a can of air spray ? . Spray around the fan vents.
Is this model no longer supported by HP ? When turned on left side gets very very warm. Last time this happened HP help had me download a BIOS program to correct fan operation, can not find this info now. Any ideas ? Hi,How do I enable USB Boost to charge my smartphone even when the laptop is switched off through the BIOS?I know that this model supports USB Boost Charging through one of its USB 3.0 ports, because it is mentioned so in HP's website in this product's specification. I know that it has nothing to do with the power settings of Windows OS.Regardshttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-USB-Boost-in-Pavillion-AU003TX-Laptop/td-p/5737594
I was planning on giving my laptop away to a friend, so I attempted to clean the hard drive. However, my battery died moments after I had started the process. When I plugged in and re-started my laptop it went to a black screen that says "missing operating system...." in the top left hand corner. (That now happens every time it is turned on)It seems that my os was accidentally deleted. Is there any way for me to re-install Windows 7 and get this laptop back up and running? I bought this laptop a few years back and do not have the original recovery discs..I have checked HP's support website, but have not really found anything that helps. I am open to any suggestions or positive feedback.Thank you for your help!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Recovery-Disc-for-Pavillion-g6-laptop/td-p/5788148

Let's start with this procedure:
Also, you can monitor the system for excessive resource consumption. To do this, open up Task Manager by right clicking on the Task Bar.
Then select the Processes tab.
Then select the "Show processes from all users" button (in the lower left)
Then select the View menu item, then select "Select columns"
In the Select columns window, place checkmarks next to I/O Reads and I/O Other.
Click OK to accept the changes.
Resize the Task Manager window so you can see the most of the columns.
Wait for the system to freeze/take up the resources.
Look at all of the columns to see if there's anything that looks excessively high - if so, let us know the Image name of the process.
NOTE: If the image name is svchost.exe - right click on it and select "Go to Service(s)" and let us know the Services that it highlights
FWIW - System Idle Process is supposed to have high CPU readings - anything else with high CPU readings is an issue.
Leave it open on your desktop while waiting for the freeze and see if you can spot the offending process when it freezes (or shortly before).

I have a HP Pavillion 5450 Laptop that is completely dead: Well, it does show signs of hope, even if it does have WinME on it!
When I power it up, the LED comes on, the fan comes on for about 10 seconds, but I get no BIOS, or display. Also, when I try to shut it down, In have to unplug it to do so. I have tried reseating RAM, removing battery.
It wont boot to a floppy either.
I am going to look at motherboard and HD soon, but does anyone have any suggestions for this problem?
Anything is helpful and appreciated!
I have a hp Pavillion DV9610US laptop would a fried Hard Drive prevent the computer from booting up? When I press the power on button the power button lights up and the charging button lights up
But the hard drive button does not light up. It acts like it wants to start I can hear fan but it just keeps powering off and on? Could it be the hard drive has fried as the the cause of not booting up? Please help. Thank you.
Can you get into the BIOS, try tapping the F2, or the Delete key to get into the BIOS. Is the hard drive recognized? if it is then go to the Mfg's website and download the diagnostics software, burn to a cd then boot from cd, and run software. If the hard drive isn't recognized then you will need a replacement.
If you don't know the manufacturer of the hard drive, flip the laptop over and remove the cover for the drive.
So I've been having this problem with this laptop for about a day now. I bought it from a sale and it had no HD. So i Ordered the Hd, caddy, and hard drive connector bar. I connected it all up and I was getting a PX-E61 error saying that my hd wasn't connected (nor showing up in bios). So i tried pulling the whle thing apart and reconnecting and came to found that the laptop went to reboot and no all the lights come on and stay on and it shuts down after a few secs w/ no pic on the screen at all. I've tried pulling everything off, but it still won't boot. Is my mobo fried ??? Please help.
Try reseting the BIOS, you can do that removing the battery for 5 minutes and try to install the HDD again. I had to do that when I installed a new hard drive.

Anyways, I was on my laptop a few days ago and an error screen came on. It just said that something was wrong and that I need to restart my computer. It shut down and restarted automatically. It was a blue, windows looking screen. Once the computer was restarted the was no wifi connection. It looks as if my wireless key is off. I have found from personal experience that HP is decent on responding to upgrade questions. They should be able to tell you what can and cannot be upgraded and then buy the parts from a cheaper source.

I am going to uy a new HP notebook (selected Pavillion family and preferable HP Pavilion 15-bc002ur).But i have IT restriction to install MS Windows 8.1. On HP site I have not found the drivers for this device despite it's mentioned in the list (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ad/windows-10/win7supporteddevices.html) Is it any chance to find MS Windows 8.1 drivers for this or similar device?I need HP with i7 CPU, SSD drive (alone or with HDD), not more 15 inches LCD, not less 8Gb of RAMI heard that Ultra HD resolution may be not supported well on MS Windows 7-8.1.Is it truth? Thank you!

Typical if it offers to run a Disk Check and then it gets lost in a loop trying to complete it.
Check in BIOS setup that HD is even detected. If not try physically reinstalling HD to reseat contacts. You can google a video how to do this for almost any make/model.
If HD is detected run the HD maker's HD diagnostics extended CD scan to see if it can be repaired.
If neither works, replace the HD.
The password is not known for an old HP Pavillion laptop. After 3 try's the error code of 65535 is given. I have seen other posts where someone is able to give a password by knowing the error code. Thanks for any help.

I have a brand new computer and not liking the touch pad that randomly changes the fonts. Is there a setting where I can prevent this from happening.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/new-HP-Pavillion-17t-laptop-touch-pad-is-there-a-setting-to/td-p/5672396
Last night I took my brand new HP Pavillion 17t Touch Laptop out of the box and it is sooo slow. Boot up is slow. Running any operations is slow. Using the internet is slow. I tried transferring files from Carbonite to this new computer and just the process of accomplishing that setup took me half an hour. This morning I had to reboot and it took 5 minutes. I only know enough about computers to be dangerous so I don't mess with to many settings myself. This unacceptible performance out of a new computer. It is definately the slowest computer that I have ever owned. Any solutions that anyone can offer (reminder, I need step by step instructions)
MLubb Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about serious problems with your brand new HP PC and wanted to help.Since this is a relatively new machine, instead of struggling for hours to fix it yourself, why not just let HP fix it -- for free!! You should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about diagnosing and repairing your machine remotely.I did this recently and the HP Tech was able to remotely access my PC from the Internet and do the needed repairs. If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------Please click "Accept As Solution" on the post that solves your issue to help others find the solution. Please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on the left of the Reply button to say thanks fopr my help.========================================================================http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Brand-new-out-of-the-box-HP-pavillion-17t-Touch-Laptop/td-p/5591042
I have an older zv5000 laptop that looks sharper than my new pavillion dv5 and the glossy screen reflects everything - good for watching your back, but not for reading your screen! Anyone have a suggestion or two. Can you recover or uncover the screen? Is there some sort of angle adjustment on the screen?Or is it just mute? .... Thanks for any help,Mind Field
The glossy screen can be troublesome at times, really not much can be done about it. If your experiencing too much glare try just tilting the screen a little and it should help a little, my other suggestion is to run at maximum brightness on the screen, while this can make the battery drain much quicker it does help with reading the screen. I had alot of trouble adjusting to the glossy screen on my old Dv9000, but after awhile you will stop noticing it, just takes some getting used to. - Jedanhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Laptop-pavillion-dv5-glossy-display-is-too-reflective/td-p/19502
I have been trying to search this problem and the results that come up do not work and are dated as far back as 2011. Once my computer goes to sleep mode and upon waking the wi-fi connections are lost, also when trying to connect back it takes a good minute to 2 for it to regain connection. Please help trying to uncheck the first option under device management does not work... under wi-fi adapter. And external hardisk was also connected to it and pendrive also. Now what to do it is not getting on ?.please help..!????http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/my-laptop-hp-pavillion-g6-suddenly-shut-down-and-not-turning/td-p/5677821
I'm stuck on 1024x768 with a 16:9 monitor. I can't get any of the drivers to install properly, all of them give the complaint seen in the attachment.
The reason I'm on Windows 7 is i had a head crash on my old Hard drive and HP refused to give me another copy of Vista for anything less than $200. I still have my old Activation code but they didn't quite understand that.
so here i am with 7, just trying to get my computer back up to 100%. any help?
This is now resolved.
If you have the old code, i know some might see this as wrong (maybe) but couldn't you acquire a cd off the net? either way just run compat mode for vistahttp://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/16360-resolution-issues-w-hp-pavillion-dv6810us-laptop.html
I'm trying to help out some friends who bought an HP laptop. Unfortunately that was their first wrong choice... it turns out they have the lowest customer satisfaction rating out of all laptop manufacturers!
Anyway, almost every time I start up, the laptop starts up, I can login, then something like this shows up on my screen. The computer freezes and I have to hit the power button to shut it down.
Nothing looks out of the ordinary in the event log, and the HP Driver Utility says all the drivers are updated. I think this is a sign the video card is bad. Can anyone second that, or is it a different problem entirely?
Thanks for your help!
If it's under warranty, or whatever you call it where you are, don't touch it, take it back to the shop.
If it's not under warranty, has it had any upgrades recently, any changes?
ok so i have a dv hp pavillion with win vista home premium actually the laptop is a series but that shouldnt matter to much just for some of you to pinpoint the problem more accurately First of all thanks for reading and trying to diagnose this wierd problem Problem is as states i originally found a problem with my laptop shortly turning it off one day the problem was that when i closed the lid on the laptop shortly after it would shut down as in not sleep but i could hear the hdd awkardly turn on hear the fan then it would kick off and power problem hp pavillion Laptop lid dv9000 i could hear the hdd loose power like if you were to unplug a from a usb connection passed it as a power issue and quickly went into the power settings to make sure that hybrid hybernation was turned off that sleep was the only option for lid Laptop dv9000 hp pavillion lid power problem closings and there were no timers on and everything is how it should have been and dismissed the problem once again shortly after noticing this problem it the power issue when i close the lid became more of an instant thing like it would try to sleep only to have the computer go into a state loosing power all together as i shut the lid or something to that effect so i thought that the lid option or some sys driver may have failed or became corrupt over several years of using my laptop so i decided to venture into the old manual and box get the system restore disks and proceed unfortuantely this didnt fix the problem either so i have elimenated several things so far one itts not the power options two its not the OS itself so i thought it may be something else and started to just shut the computer down when i had to close the lid but to my suprise even if i shut the comptuer down via the Fn Fx button or the start shutdown option and waited untill the computer fully shut down and then closed the lid it still did the same thing as i would close the lid it would power on only briefly then shut off as if it would totally loose power so now i am at a standstill and am asking for some help as i have no idea what this is other than the lid switch or something more familiar with these laptop models and it being something more of the internal hardware any help will work and i can post any type of diagnostic data needed thanks ps the laptop is officially a dv cl with a C D ghz processor gb of ddr mhz two hdds one has been replaced the os drive a gb wd black mb cache and the second is the factory installed hitatchi gb storage drive both independent from each other nbsp
Have you tried restoring the laptop to the original purchased state? Or even doing a Windows Restore to an earlier time?
My laptop touchpad stopped working and I tried uninstalling the driver and letting Windows re-install it. This worked, but then after using the laptop for a while, it again failed and I once again uninstalled/reinstalled the diver and itis now working. Is anybody else have the same problem? Is there a fix/patch? Should I roll back my driver? Villagehttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Pavillion-13-laptop-touchpad-driver-keeps-failing/td-p/5660200
Since the last remote update to W10 was installed 19.10.16 my laptop will not print. HP wireless printer completely checked by professional and error free. If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

I JUST BOUGHT THIS COMPUTER AND I THINK I NEED TO ADJUST THE TOUCH PAD SENSITIVITY. WHEN TYPING I GENTLY TOUCH IT AND THE CURSOR FLIES OUT OF CONTROL ON TO ANOTHER PART OF THE PAGE. THIS IS A TOUCH SCREEN COMPUTER SO WOULD THERE ALSO BE A WAY TO MAKE IT HARDER FOR THE SCREEN TO RECOGNIZE THE TOUCH?

I am servicing a HP dv1300 laptop and a portion of the keyboard produces nothing. I have tried many things but can't understand why the keyboard dose not work as a basic BIOS standard unless its a mainboard problem.
That was my conclusion.......I would like to be wrong about that.
The Laptop was purchased in the US.
Can't do much with it without the keyboard and I have tried an external keyboard........same result......I have dissconnected and reconnected the keyboard to no avail.
Any tips on this.........Thank you

I had some problem with my laptop. So I thought of factory resetting the laptop.I did a factory reset and now my laptop is up with Windows 8. I have 500GB hard disk. Earlier, C disk used to show up as 440+ GB as capacity. Now after factory restore, it is showing as 104GB. Can some one please help me. ?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Pavillion-Laptop-Hard-disk-capacity-showing-as-104GB/td-p/5783793
Just registered so I could also say thanks to the member who came up with the cost-free solution to this problem. Put a towel around the laptop until it overheated enough to turn itself off. Waited for it to cool. Started right up w/ no issues.Woo hoo! My wife asked me how I fixed it, after my computer guy said it couldn't be done in a cost effective way. I told her I used a bit of witchcraft. lolhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/HP-Pavillion-laptop-black-screen-blinking-Caps-lock-button/td-p/5612682

Whilst working the computer froze. I removed the battery to switch of. When switching on the next time I got a message "scanning and repairing hard drive". This progressed to 9% and then made no further progress. After 10 hours I finally removed the battery again as there was no other way to do this. What can i do to revert to correct operation'/

At first time, the DVD player was working, and the second time when I tried to insert DVD to the player, the player made some sound like Krik Krik, and sipt out the DVD. Eveytime, different DVD used and the DVDs or Audio CDs are working with other Computer DVD players and CD players. My boss just bought it for classroom. But no DVD or CD player, it is not useful. What is the solution for this? My boss bought it one month ago. Maybe less.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-All-in-one-Pavillion-B-amp-o-DVD/td-p/5651418

Solved the problem myself. Opened the tower and changed the port that the SATA drive cable connected to. At least after doing that and restarting the computer I was able to get into BIOS. Showed no hard drive as being recognized. Went to HP's site and found that Seatgate had a problem with some of the hard drives (500, 700, etc.) After calling a technician with HP it was decided that the hard drive had failed (no indication of it failing-it just stopped!!!)
HP is sending a new hard drive and a recovery disk (the recovery partition was on the hard drive that failed. No cost. There was still 50 days left on the warranty.
I guess we were LUCKY!
Thanks for looking at my computer problem.

Hi, Shutdown the notebook. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu. Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive. Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated. Can you also post back with the version of the operating system currently installed on the notebook. Regards, DP-Khttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/HP-Pavillion/td-p/5596611
Hi, I have hp pavillion a6317c pc, I unpluged it for 8 months, now it wont boot, power led stays on, green light on the back stays on, fans on, no signal to the monitor, try to turn it off but power light stays on, had to unplug it to turn it off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi and Welcome to TSF!
See if you can boot it without the battery.
If that doesn't work unplug the battery and power cable.
Then press and hold the power button for 45 seconds.
Replug in the power and battery to see if it will boot.
Trying to help my daughter out, She has a laptop HP Pavillion DV6 that will only boot in the safemode. She called HP and of course she is 60 days out of warranty. Any suggestions? She's try to restore it to a point about a week ago but the same thing keeps happening, just boots in safemode.
Thanks for any and all suggestions,
Does the computer give out an error when your daughter tries to boot the computer to windows normally? Go to the safe mode menu again and this time, choose "Boot the computer to last known good configurations". See if this helps out at all. I would also recommend performing an In-Place Upgrade(Windows Repair) on the computer. You will definitely need your Windows 7 CD in order to perform this process. When was the last the computer was able to work successfully?
Hi. I bought this laptop used from someone online. I know it is old. It uses the FS1 socket, and has an A4 processor. So I can't expect too much. But it just locks up on me aall the time. As soon as I try to open anything, it just locks up. The day I got it, I was able to open Google Chrome and watch some Youtube videos. The next day, nothing. I think the HDD is screwed, and I would like to replace it with an SSD. My problem is, it will not detect my SSD. What can I do to get my SSD installed in this thing, so that hopefully I can use it for some basic things on the go?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/pavillion-g6/td-p/5752267

finally something to contribute a few years ago i bought one of those after thanks giving walmart laptop specials don t get me wrong its been a good one only paid mobile sempron gig hdd upgraded immediately to gb ram only burns cd s and plays dvds but ill soon fix that along with hdd found i may be able to upgrade CPU a Hp pavillion ze2000 little too maybe someone can confirm that anyway apparently some of these overheat and they recommend Hp pavillion ze2000 a new bios flash sp some how they think that the CPU fan running slows Hp pavillion ze2000 the computer down and somehow makes it overheat i did the flash because they recommended it and told me that it would make it work better after the flash the CPU fan hardly ever came on did it twice to make sure i did it right tech support told me to clean it I m very meticulous about my computers did it anyway as suggested and took a vacuumed cleaner to it which was kinda fun but wondered if i was going to zap it with static electricity from the vacuum it would get so hot that the palm rest would be more than just warm but kinda hot the touch pad would become very erratic but it never shut down on me i got a cool pad just so i could use my computer good investment though i do like it finally installed cpucool so i cold see what temp it was getting up to C with cool pad man searched around and found older bios sp ran the flash eureka it works now still a little warmer than i would like but fan on at approximately - C off at around C under regular load with cool pad much lower temp mid to high s they tried to get me to buy a new fan also works fine I ve only had one laptop but it seems that they run just a little warmer than equal desktop probably air circulation limitations sometimes i think they just go down a list of things that s why i was so happy to find this site experience but if anyone else has one of these its actually a ze wm if you look on the tag they did have one thing that did some good for me sp core speed adjustment download raises clock speed from multiplier x to like almost mhz multiplier x cpuid it fluctuates from one to the other I m thinking it lowers the clock speed to force cooling right anyway hope this helps someone out that is wrestling with tech support i wonder if i can put a fan in it with its own temp sensor can you do that with a laptop hmmmm thanks nbsp

I have a HP Pavillion that when I turn it on, all I get is a white screen on the monitor. I tried to boot with the original recovery discs and while the cd drive spins, the light just goes to yellow and nothing happens. I tried to boot up in safe mode with the same results.
I ve never done this before and I m a little scared I m going to screw something up I need to completely reformat my old computer Its an HP Pavilion that s Pavillion HP Old Reformat about yrs old It was given to me by a family member who has had different computers since she got this one and has mixed all the CDs together so doesn t know what is what So I do not have original CDs I don t think back then they gave you CDs for XP anyhow It has an extra hard drive a friend put in - that apparently was never installed correctly as when you turn it on you get a message about it not being installed properly But it works From reading stuff online it seems to do a real reformat you must boot from the CD that came with the computer Windows XP Now as I said above I don t have this But what I do have is a Dell Operating System CD that came with my new Dell which also runs Windows XP Will I be able to reformat using only this CD Will everything be okay with it I m think I read that you may need a CD with drivers on it again don t have it Is that going to be a major issue Will the hard drive that my friend installed be okay Last but not least is there anything else I should be aware of Should I not even attempt this
You could attempt it as it can't hurt, but I would be very surprised if it worked as the Dell CD will be set up to run with Dell hardware.
If after you install Windows it won't boot properly try booting into Safe Mode.
