File Access Tracker for Windows 2000

Q: File Access Tracker for Windows 2000

Does anybody know of a program that we can use on Windows 2000 server that will monitor and track file access. I have found a few programs that use Active Directory's file auditing but none that can be configured for specific files or folders. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I tried the recommendations for fixing this below:

Follow these steps to grant full permissions to the folder where the files are stored: 1. Right click on the folder on the external drive and click on
properties. 2. On the property window, click Security tab.
3. Now click on Edit and then click Add.
4. Now type everyone in the box and
click OK.

5. Then check Full control check box.

6. Click on Apply and then click OK.
You may also try the below mentioned steps:
1. Click on Start. 2. Go to Control Panel. 3. Select "SOUND". 4. Double click on speakers. 5. Click on advanced tab and then uncheck enable audio enhancements.

But then I received the error message that I don't have rights to edit and add.  Why would this be?  I am the administrator?

Thanks!

A:Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.

Hi,
Please first take ownership of the folder or files, then give yourself full control permission.

Hello,

I have a problem to access file server on Windows Server 2000 from a Windows 7 PC. For your information, due to some reasons, both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are in different domain.

I have tried all suggested solutions which are :
i. to unchecked both attributes in 'Network Security : Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC)' for both clients and server.
ii. to apply 'Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated' in 'Network Security : LAN Manager authentication level'
iii. to make sure the time setting for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are the same.

But still, i couldn't access the file server. In fact, each time I entered domain\username to authenticate, it will give out this message :

Since I am kinda new to this troubleshooting things, it would be great if someone can tell me why does this happening. Is it because of the different domain?

thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 unable to Access file server on Windows Server 2000

To connect to the server you would need to enter the credentials of the domain user on the server that would have access. For example if the domain was 'home' with a user 'Josh' then I would put:

home\Josh

As the username. If you want to get advanced you could try and form a trust with the other domain in active directory so that the other domain has permission to access the server

hopefully someone can help me with this...

yesterday I clicked on the file and the program opened up but the file didn't but down the bottom it indicated "done" and there were no error messages

I then copied the file (which showed the same file size as the original) and tried to open that up but no luck

I then was successful when I opened up an old mdb file I had.

Hello!

I secured a database in MS Access 2000, however after having users join the MS Workgroup, some of the users cannot open the database due to the appearing error message: Could not use 'Admin'. File already in use. When you click the help button on the error dialogue box, the succeeding window references the message "Could not use <name>; file already in use. (Error 3045)"

Does anyone know how to clear this? At the time, there were absolutely no other users accessing this shared database.

Thank you!

My Outlook 2000 cannot access the pst file all of a sudden and the file is on the hard disk. There is an error message on startup of outlook and it says that the file cannot be opened. Please close other applications that may be using the pst file. There are no programs using it. I copied the file and renamed it and used import but the same message came up. It has been fine for a long time. I repaired the program and the same results came up.

I have a Windows server R Sp and XP SP workstations with Office Occasionally users are able to access the same excel spreadsheet at the same time can why 2 only? file read excel users access 2000 no with an without receiving a file open notice until the second user tries to save the file Then they receive a message stating why can 2 users access an excel 2000 file with no read only? that the file is in use and that they can do a save as Usually if a user tries to access a file that is already in use they receive a file in use popup and they are given the choice to open read only notify or close This issue does not happen all the time and is not specific to one particular file And the file was never setup for sharing I ve checked my security and permissions for the shares and I don t see a solution I ve suspected file corruption and copied the data into a new file and replaced the old file thinking that would solve the problem and no luck Is there something I m missing nbsp

We have the following situation.

There is an NT 4 machine that hosts an Access 2000 mdb file.

The file is opened by 10 users from time to time concurrently. When we had office 97 no problem appeared (ok, just simple message that someone else is using the resource). When we moved to access 2000, problems happened. The database for some reason locks and nobody can edit data because its read-only. The funny think is that nobody is using it and access 2000 still reports that the file is read only. Maybe the network connections drove crazy access 2000? I do not know. If you have any idea please help.

Thanks in advance!

A:{Advice Offered} - Access 2000 mdb file is read-only!

Try this:

1. Use windows explore to navigate to the file itself. When you get to the file, right click on it and go to Properties. Look at the bottom of the window and make sure the file is not set to Read Only. If it is, remove the check for this attribute.

or

2. Open the database but make sure you are the administrator of the dB. Go to Tools, Security, User & Group Permissions. Check all your settings.

Question:
Was this dB designed to run over a network connection or is it just used that way?

I'm not sure if either of my suggestion will fix your problem but it is a place to start. You might also want to Microsoft's Knowledge Base. It is located at: http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?fr=0&SD=GN&LN=EN-US

Good day guys,

I need your help/advice about what the best battery tracker for windows 7. Im using a HP G42-476TX and I used to use HP assistant downloaded from HP. But yesterday, after 2 and a half years, my battery died on me, last I checked the cycle count was about 721/300. So as you can see i've used my laptop quite a lot. So today, I just bought a replacement battery (not original HP) for half the price of the real thing, and for some reason, HP assistant cannot detect the battery, so here I am asking for an alternative software. Hope you guys can help (i know you can ) Thanks in advance!

A:Syshost.exe Tracker Trojan/Virus on Windows 7 - Please Help

Informational bump: my local service center is only open today this week (don't ask me why), and I need the issue fixed long before next Monday, so I will be taking it in one hour.

I know there are a lot of other people in this forum with various issues, and I'd never expect any special treatment just because I'm in a rush, but anyone able to respond within an hour or so to try to help me deal with this issue myself without breaking the bank would have my eternal esteem and gratitude . A:Windows 2000 - Can't access internet

Hello, S4nDr0
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

We need to create an OTViewIt ReportPlease download OTViewIt by OldTimer.
Save it to your desktop.
Double click on the icon on your desktop.
Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
Push the button.
Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:OTViewIt.txt <-- Will be opened
Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized

We need to scan for rootkits with GMERPlease download gmer.zip and save to your desktop.alternate download site 1
alternate download site 2

Unzip/extract the file to its own folder. (Click here for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 2000 users click here.)
When you have done this, disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
Note: There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
Double-click on Gmer.exe to start the program.
Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan...click NO.
Click on "Settings", then check the first five settings:System Protection and Tracing
Processes
Save created processes to the log
Drivers
Save loaded drivers to the log

You will be prompted to restart your computer. Please do so.
Run Gmer again and click on the Rootkit tab.
Look at the right hand side (under Files) and uncheck all drives with the exception of your C drive.
Make sure all other boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for "Show All".
Important! Please do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.
Click on the "Scan" and wait for the scan to finish.Note: Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan.

When completed, click on the Copy button and right-click on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and right-click again and choose Paste or Ctrl+V. Save the file as gmer.txt and copy the information in your next reply.
Note: If you have any problems, try running GMER in Safe Mode

I have Office 97 loaded on a Windows 2000 Pro computer that is shared by several people. Microsoft Access will only run immediately after install, but only until switching users. The error is: 'Microsoft Access couldn't find file 'C:\Winnt\System32\System.mdw'. The file is there. If I switch back to the original user (the one logged on at time of install), the same error occurs until I reinstall and so on and so on. As long as you never switch users it works fine. Do you have any idea what might be going on here? Thanks

I have updated all my service packs and all the latest

I can ruin my entire system if I am not careful.

When I attempt to add a clip art object to my form in Access XP
I received the following message: "The OLE server isnt registered. To register the OLE server, reinstall it." This only happens with Access not other applications in the suite. What is weird is some of my data bases were created in Access 97 and already had clip art applied and they converted fine. Any thoughts or suggestions.

A:Access XP Windows 2000 network

The clipart gallery is probably not installed properly. If I recall correctly, you need to find the location of the clipart gallery executable (the name of which escapes me at the moment), and ensure that that is the same location referred to in the Windows registry. It probably isn't. The easiest would be to install to your hard drive.

Hello,

I have a Acer M1610 running windows vista 32 Bit and I downloaded the trial version of AVG Internet Security 2013. I have bought a license number and when I tried to enter it on the administrator account I received the following message.

C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG2013\avgcfgex.exe
Windows cannot access the specified device, path,or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
Access is denied.

Can anyone please help me fix this so I can enter the new license code.Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I'd try downloading/installing it again...your package may be damaged.

Hi there phegmmaster! Welcome to BC! Try this, go to Kelly's Corner ( http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm ) and download #12 on the left side ("EXE (lnk and regfile) Fix for Windows XP"). It's a .reg file. Save it to your desktop then double click on it to merge it into your registry. Then reboot.Let us know the outcome!

Hello experts! I get the following message when I click on my internet explorer:

windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them.

I am the adminstrator on my machine, which runs on XP. I have tried the following:

1. installing IE8 - did not work.
2. uninstalling my AV software (McAfee) - made no difference, now I can't re-install it.

I am fairly certain there is a virus(trojan) lurking about, especially because I am re-directed to websites other than the ones I click on; my System Information is empty; and random sites pop-up when I am on the internet.

Right now, I have accessed the internet by using iexplore.exe on my flash drive.

Thanks!

Hello I_hate_trojans!,This infection is preventing almost every tool to be run. Please try to follow the steps below carefully and in the order given! If you encounter problems, just let me know, thats what I am here for First of all, download the following files and put them on a flash drive:Win32kdiagCombofixJunction.zipWith malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have the Windows Recovery Console pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.Go to Microsoft's website => http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994Scroll down to Step 1, and select the download that's appropriate for your Operating System. Download the file & save it as it's originally named. Note: If you have SP3, use the SP2 package.---------------------------------------------------------------------You should now have a flash drive with win32kdiag.exe, junction.zip, combofix.exe and the MS Recovery Console installer package--------------------------------------------------------------------Now plug the flash drive in your infected computer and proceed with the steps below.COMBOFIX---------------Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our toolsDrag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it (you can do that while both files are still on your flash drive).Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console.
At the next prompt, click 'Yes' to run the full ComboFix scan. When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply. At this point your desktop should be accessible, please read the following steps carefully and DO NOT leave the needed tools on your flash drive, because that will cause the steps below not to work. ----------------------------Please save Win32kDiag.exe to your desktop. Click on Start->Run, and copy-paste the following command (the bolded text) into the "Open" box, and click OK. When it's finished, there will be a log called Win32kDiag.txt on your desktop. Please open it with notepad and post the contents here. "%userprofile%\desktop\win32kdiag.exe" -f -r---------------------------We need to scan the system with this special tool: * Please unzip the following file:Junction.zip * Place Junction.exe in the Windows directory (C:\Windows). * Go to Start => Run... => Copy and paste the following command in the Run box and click OK: cmd /c junction -s c:\ >log.txt&log.txt& del log.txtA command window opens starting to scan the system. Wait until a log file opens. Copy and paste the log in your next reply. In your next reply, please include the following:Combofix.txtWin32kDiag.txtJunction log

I have a Windows 2000 Server in my home office. Two people need to access this server remotely.
What can I do so these two people can gain access to files that reside on the 2000 Server?

I once had a static ip address that enabled the two users to gain access to the server.

Thank you for looking.

A:Setting up remote access in Windows 2000 Server

The simplest way is to configure an FTP server on the server. That doesn't require any special handling. If you don't have a static IP address, you can use DynDNS or a similar service to map your dynamic IP address to a static URL.

Ok I had to put windows 2000 on my moms PC, which is part of a network, and now EVERY computer on the Network sees an "Internet Gateway". WHY???? The only computer that can see shared files is my moms with the windows 2000. theres 3 more computers all running windows xp. how do i fix this? File sharing is now available, but I myself believe the internet is being slowed down. THe Internet gateway that windows XP is picking up is reading 8.0 mbps. My connection has gotten as high as like almost 2, but it should not read that.

windows 2000, at startup, tries to open a file called 1.tmp. This file cannot be removed manually as it is in use. Does anyone have any idea about what program this file is related to?? thanks

A:windows 2000, cannot open 1.tmp file

Sounds like it could be spyware/adware. Download HijackThis and post a log file for the experts to look over.

Can be downloaded from www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

Be sure to save the EXE file in a non-TEMP folder and run from there.

I am currently running a Windows 2000. I am facing a serious problem with spywares and adwares. But these threats are already eliminated by Microsoft Anti-Spyware.

But at the same time, when I am running normal mode, during Start UP and at anytime time after that... when I opened any .exe (for example msword.exe); a "program error" appears and close it back.

This "program error" happens everytime I try to execute an .exe file.
I can only run certain .exe programs in safe mode too.

Please help me... I can't do much things when .exe files cannot be open or run

I would like to know if there was a way to forward messages based on content to a file outside of Outlook 2000, like Access 2000 in particular, maybe even Excel 2000. I know that a rule can be set up to forward messages to personal folders, but I would like to know if it can be done to an outside file. I didn't know if it had to do with messages being in pst format.

No. Not possible to my knowledge or without VBA.

I think it might be easier for you to set Access to import from the PST file at a given time each day. Of course, you'll have to have exited Outlook at that time or the PST file will report that it is in use.

My advice. Ditch using your Windows server as a router and get a hardware router to put in between your cable modem and your server. Then if you want to have your server act as a VPN server, either enable VPN pass through on the hardware router or set up a set of port forward rules.

I installed a simple peer-to-peer network using Win 2000 Pro workstations, with an NT Server 4.0 machine acting only as a firewall. I have not set any password protection on any machine and all users have full administrative access to all resources on the network. However, when I try to browse for available resources I must enter a password and user name to have access to the machine in which the desired resources are located. How do I disable this password protection so that I am not confronted with a windows logon dialog box? I am using Fat32 on shares, therefore there is no local file security.

A:{Advice Offered} - Windows 2000 browser access problem

All users have full access you said. Did you set up the names that people are logging into the workstations with up in User Manager on each machine?

You are actually logging into the NT Server at the beginning of all this, right?

A:Windows 7 canít access Windows 2000 share

Hi, welcome to the forums

I have had similar issues networking Windows 7 & Vista. 1 thing I tend to try is to remove the password requirement on Vista, in your case 2000. If your router is secured and no other traffic gets onto the network it may be worth a try to see if it temporarily solves the issue, allowing for time to look into the credentials issue.

You know when you right click something and hit properties, and in one of the fields it says "Type of File"? Like when you right click Program Files and it says it's a "File Folder". Well, I need a program that'll let me change those, preferably within that properties window, such as just typing it out or something.

The thing is, I need to change a file into a File Folder. Due to certain circumstances, I ended up changing a very important folder into a recycle bin file type, and I need to change it back. It still holds all the files, I can even still access the files in question via buttons on my IE toolbar and "open with". However, I can't see the folders or the files in that folder, it just shows a recycle bin and it's options. Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

I am attempting to access an application.exe file on my desktop. Each time that I click on it the Windows message, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." pops up. I am the system administrator so this should NOT be a problem but apparently many out there are dealing with this as well. I can delete, move and even copy the file but I cannot run it. There is no option for override with password or grant permission. It just says that I cannot run it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, the system I am running is Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

A:Windows can't access file. May not have permission to access.

Hello KyRy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might check to see if you can right click on the file, click on Properties, click on Security tab, and make sure that you have Read & execute permission allowed (checked) for your user account or the administrators group.Permissions - Allow or Deny Users and Groups
If not, then you might see if you may be able to install and use the free program Unlocker on the file to have access to it afterwards.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I'm setting up a server at work and I really don't know the ins and outs of security settings etc.. So this is a pet project of mine.

Basically, I want any computer (regardless of network name) to be able to access a share, but be prompted for a user name and password to open the directory.

Usually (it would seem), Windows 2000 just plain old denies access to anyone who does not have user account ont he server. If I can get it to prompt for a user name /pass before this, then that will serve my purposes quite nicely.

A:Ask users for login/pass to access network shares in Windows 2000?

I believe the NET command in XP/2k permits passing a username/login.

Also, when mapping a network drive to a network share, you have the option of putting in a user/pass.

When the Windows 2000 PC dials into a Domain,
the Windows 98 & 95 are asked for a password when trying to access files on the Win2000. I can supply the Users domain password and everything works fine.

However, when the Windows 2000 PC is not dialed into a domain, the Win98 & Win95 PC's receive "\\Ashtec is not accessable. No permission to access resource".

What do I have to do to either the Win2000 or Win98 & 95 PC to access the Win2000 files, while not on a domain?

I have a client who uses this very very bad in my opinion industry-specific software It runs on a Windows Server in Terminal Services The problem is that whenever a user opens 2000 Locking on a Server? File Windows Disable this program there is a session file created by it unrelated to the operating system s login This isn t a problem as it s deleted when they log off except for when this nasty program stops responding or closes without warning Then there s a user file left over If you try to delete it it says that the file is locked or in use access denied If we restart the server after painfully having everyone log off I can delete the file fine So my quesion is is there a way of un-locking a file without restarting when this happens And is there a way to disable file locking in Windows Server I ve found a bit of information about quot opportunistic Disable File Locking on a Windows 2000 Server? file locking quot but Disable File Locking on a Windows 2000 Server? it doesn t seem to have helped this specific problem I figure if we can find some way to disable file locking at least I could run a batch program every so often to delete out-dated log-ins before they run out of licenses and need to reboot Any help info etc is appreciated nbsp

go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.

Hi guys,

my system crashed a few days ago and came up with an error to say that the SOFTWARE file was corrupt. I put in another hard drive and managed to copy the C:\winnt\system32\repair\SOFTWARE file over the corrupt one, just so that I could get it to boot into Windows - which it did. But obviously none of the software works.

Is there any way that I can fix the SOFTWARE file to save me having to reinstall all of the software again?? All of the fixing tools seem to cost a lot of money.

We have a practice billing and scheduling on the host PC, and do not have the disks, so can not be copied onto other PCs. What would I need to set it up as a server. Having purchased an existing practice, money is an issue. So, even simple file sharing could work, but would it be secure enough for patient info?
I would appreciate any tech steps to setting up either options. Again, thank-you. Emy

As far as I know, Jack, the only way to do get this to work correctly would be to map a network drive. That's what I would do. Create a folder on the Windows 7 and 2000 machines that you want to use for sharing. I'm sure there's a post here somewhere about it already but I'm too new to know where it might be.

Any help referencing that post?

Do a couple online scans from this list

http://forums.techguy.org/t110854.html

SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
AdAware SE http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
SpyBot S&D http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their
definition updates and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything
they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
SpyBot - After an update run immunize and make sure teatimer in enabled

Do these before the next step.

Then get HiJack This http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html, put
it in a permanent folder, run it , DO NOT fix anything, post the

Hello,

My computer has been disabled by a massive virus/malware infection. I managed to delete almost all of the bad stuff except "System.BrokenFileAssociation" which is located in "HKCR\.exe". I am unable to see this program (yes, I have made hidden files visible), and it still paralyzes all and any action I'm trying to undertake.
How can I get rid of it? Please remember that I cannot run any programs except the Super AntiSpyware scan. My operating system is Windows 2000 Professional, and I am staying offline (I'm writing this from a Mac laptop.)

Many thanks,

A:Fixing broken file association in Windows 2000 Professional

Hello and welcome to the forums

Can you try the following to restore access to run exe files:

Open the File Types dialog from any Explorer window -- use My Documents or My Computer (Tools | Folder Options | File Types Tab). Scroll down to where .EXE would be in the alphabetical order and make certain .EXE is not there (if it is, then edit it there by changing the association to Application). Finally, select the New button, type in EXE for the extension and select the Advanced button. From the list pick "Application."Click to expand...

Do you have a proper anti-virus on the system? SAS is primarily an anti-spyware scanner and not a fully fledged anti-virus solution.

When i start a file search as soon as i enter a letter a prompt box springs up showing previous searches starting with that letter. I have tried deleting the items shown in this box by right clicking and pressing delete or transfering them into the search box and then highlighting and deleting them but this only removes them from that search. Next time i use it they are back again. I have run searches on them but this revels 'no result' in all areas. I can also reduce the size of the prompt box by dragging the lefthand grey corner across but again this only works at the time and the box is there in all its glory next time. Is there any way i can delete them permanently or stop the box opening? The little critters are driving me mad!!! Any help gratefully received!

My problem is that i want to remove these archived items. But i cannot seem to get rid of them. I try deleting them but they are back the next search i do. I have carried out searches on them which show 'no result' in all areas. I have deleted cookies related to them. But still the little critters won't go! I can reduce the size of the prompt box by dragging it across from the bottom right corner but again next search there it is as large as life again! Pleeze how can i get rid of these or at least close this box permanently!

How can I set up this restricted user so that they can only view and have access to ONLY their files and NOT have access to other folders in other user accounts.
I tried using the "MMC" but their was no option available. Since I didn't install using NTFS, there is no security tab in the properties section of the folder. Any assistance would be appreciated, thanks.

A:Windows 2000 Pro System Don't Boot ; Registry File Failure Error

With the cdrom booting up you select 'install', then you will be prompted to enter the repair console in the next screen. Do not enter the repair console here but continue on by selecting 'install' again. Then you should be presented with the listed operating systems on your pc . This should give you the option to repair those installations. This way it will rewrite over the entire operating system but will leave your installed programs intact. The only difference I have seen using this method is that it wipes out every windows update..

Dear All,
I have a problem where i am having 2 application server clustered and both using a common file folder (residing on one app server and access by other through mapping network drive). This common shared folder is storing some files used in application. Now my problem is that because of sharing folder this way, my application starts running slowly and performance is hampered. It application actually stop running as file is not getting opened. If i remove the clustering and just work with one app server (ofcourse file folder residing on the same server) it works fine. Can somebody tell me what can be the problem if i access the files through mapped network drive. I am using windows server 2K with 2 GB RAM.

Appreciate the help on this.

Hi, I am trying to import a mailing list that was originally in excel, it has over 2000 entries. I successfully imported the file into access. Now I am trying to import to Outlook. I went to file-import/export- I went through the wizard, even mapping destinations if that window popped up, then I click finish and it shows a status box, it takes a really long time, then all the wizard boxes and status boxes disappear, with no message confirming that the files were imported, and the contacts do not appear. Then sometimes it has the error message that outlook has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. I even made a two entry excel document and tried to import and it did the same thing. I have done the detect and repair option, also reinstalled office. WHAT DO I DO???? I need this mailing list in OUtlook bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please help!

Hi,

I have an access 2000 database that I cannot view in design mode in 2003. In access 2000 I used to press the shift key and open the access 2000 database. It would then open up the data base for me instead of starting it in start-up form. But now when I try that in 2003 it just gives me the startup box, basically what a user would see when entering information. I was wondering how I would be able to view the database in access 2003 as if I was pressing the shift key and opening it up like in access 2000. I imagine it has something to do with the macros?

Is there a way of setting up the database in access 2003 (so I can view the data inside) instead of starting up the form

Thanks,
Cathy

Can anyone PLEASE tell me how I go about making a field a REQUIRED field. I have created a data access page which will be access by several users via our intranet. I want a error msg to pop up if a particular field is left blank. HOW do I do this via the data access page?

A:Access 2000 Data Access Page

Go into the design view of your table. click on the field that you want to be required. At the bottom of the screen there are some properties about the fields. In the required field change it to yes.

This will automatically make a pop up box that warns the person entering data that they cannot move onto the next record without entering info in this field.

Good luck.
