I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:window within window opens small

If you are talking about a program that uses MDI child windows (like many of the Office applications), the "small" (child) windows usually have their own minimize/maximize/close controls in the top-right corner. You can also try double-clicking the title bar of the small window. This will maximize the child window within the parent window.

my "taskbar and start menu properties" window's text is SO small. Some of my application window's text face the same problem. The text is tiny that make it impossible to read. I've reset the screen resolution, the text size from 100% to 125 ... but they increase the size of text and the icon on the desktop only, not the text in the window. I'm totally confused now. I miss the simple XP in the old time ... I'm using win7 premium, i don't know whether 32 or 64 ...

A:Small window and small text

The old-style display properties panel is now located at Control Panel -> Personalization -> Window Color -> Advanced appearance settings.

Whether these will have any effect will depend on the theme that you are using. If you are using an Aero theme, chances are this panel will be useless for you. If, however, you are using the Windows Basic theme, i.e. have Aero turned off, then this panel will work just like in XP.

These settings have nothing to do with whether your OS is 32- or 64-bit.

Finally, most programs have their own tools to change the font size. For example in Firefox you can press Ctrl and move the mouse wheel while holding that key. you will see the font size change.

Hope that helps.

When I launch IE7 it opens full size, as I like it to. However, each subsequent IE7 window I open is small. I would like all instances of open browser windows to be the same size. How do I do that?

Thank you

A:Small Window

For a second IE Window>

This works for me.
Open Internet Explorer
Shift + click a link to force it to open in a separate window
Alt + Tab to return to the first window
Close it, leaving only the small window open
Drag the window edges/corners to adjust the size
Close the resized window

Another way,
Open one IE browser window. Click on a link to open a second.
With the second, drag the corners to the edges of the screen.
Do 'Not' hit the maximize icon. Close the first window, then the second
(the order of closing is important).
Make sure you do File, Close; do 'Not use the X button!

Another way,
Maximize Internet Explorer On Opening
http://www.theeldergeek.com/maximize...t_explorer.htm

Either way the next time you open a second browser window, IE saves the new default window size.

If none of those ways work, read the article in this link

A:small window

Hello Dwhiskie,

If you mean in Internet Explorer, then you can press F11 to have it full screen. You can also drag the window borders to how large you want the window, or press the square button to the left of the red close window button at the top right corner, or double click on the window title bar to maximize the window.

Hope this helps,

not unless you resize the window to where you usually hit the desktop.

I'm suprised that you don't have it full screen, it should run decent enough as long as you have low detail.

I've been told that IE 9 is a very good browser and even more malware-resistant than Firefox which is what I've been using. The first thing I'm seeing though, when trying Internet Explorer is that every site it opens it does so in a small (minimized) window which is VERY annoying and which Firefox never did. Is there a way to configure IE so that it opens a site in "full page" status? Oh, I've tried to enlargen the minimized windows by dragging the placeholders; but when I do it again, still the small windows open when clicking a link. VERY FRUSTRATING! And, it make me want to stay with Firefox which at least doesn't have THAT problem. If anyone knows of a way out around this, I'd surely like to find out. Thank you.

A:IE Only Opens In Small Window?

Window positions are determined by a registry binary blob, and the usual way to fix it is to close all instances of the application, open a new application window, size it the way you want, close it, and then open the application again. Are you stating that you've done this, and the problem still occurs?

Hi,

For some reason, IE 7 now is opening in a small window instead of "maximized". Small annoyance, but I would like to reset it to open in a full window.

Thanks,

A:IE 7 opens in small window

There are a number of reasons why IE may open as a small window. For instance; if you launch from a shortcut and the page you are targetting has the size properties set at runtime or if you have it set to run minimised.

When you open IE from the start menu or quick launch toolbar, maximise it, click File > Exit then re-open it from the start menu or quick launch toolbar does it still open as a small window and what is your home page?

When I choose to forward an email in Outlook 2003, the new window comes up abpout 2" x3" and I have to manually make it bigger, every time. This is a fairly recent behavior. If I make one of these windows larger or full screen, subsequent new fwd windows will be that size for a while, then they revert to 2x3. This is annoyiong as hell. How can I permanently fix this?

One solution is to drag the window to the size you want it and click File . . Close ( or Exit ) . . not by using the X in the right corner . . the next time it opens it should open to the size you closed it on.

Hey,
I was wondering if there's anyway to run a game (say starcraft) on XP in a small window rather than the default maximized. My friend has a mac and I know he can do their fancy "show all" thing where his game will be in a small window and still playable instead of maximized. Did that make any sense? I hope so. I look forward to any replies

I am using Nero to burn the contents of a few hundred folders. I am having to do it small pieces at a time. The problem is that the listing of folders already on the cd takes up the entire space available for dragging and dropping to add to the compilation, even with the window maximized. So whatever I drag and drop ends up as a subfolder of the last folder in the window. Is there a way to select folders and move them via a menu command so that the folders remain seperate? Thanks!

A:Nero window size too small

Hi. I may be wrong about this. I have Nero, but it's been a while since I used it. But, it seems to me that the window is separated into two sections, one pane where you browse your PC and select files/folders, and the other pane that displays the contents of the CD. I think you can select the files on your PC that you want placed on the CD, then click once on the tiny CD icon at the top of the heirarchy tree, then click the Add button (I think the Add button has a green downward pointing arrow). This allows you to specify the root of the CD as the destination for your selected files. So, while you're not using the "drag and drop" feature, you are at least able to tell the program where you want the folders to go.

Hope this helps.

When I start the progam (wonderware viewer) it opens in a small window at the top left of the screen. I's only a potion of the actual screen that should be showing (the part that would normaly be on that part of the monitor. The rest of the monitor just shows the desktop. Other things open normaly.

I have a program that opens several smaller windows...[that] will not get larger when I try to use the mouse to stretch them.
A window will pop up on the lower left side of your screen that says "Taskbar and start menu properties".
How do you make that window larger?...
as previously stated, I have a program that I use..that when it opens..it has two smaller windows like this one...within it...I have the same problem with those smaller windows as you will have with this one...I cannot make them larger by placing the mouse prompt on the sides or bottom frame of the window and stretching it.
Hope this makes sence to you.
Thanks Again!

I have had this happen before but I can't remember what I did to fix it. I first noticed that I couldn't update Adobe Flash because the install window/box was cutting off the confirmation check box. I can't use system restore because the window/box cuts off the tool buttons. This closed thread addresses the same problem.

whenever I restart my laptop, This little thing on the uppermost left side of my laptop appears
would this be a threat to my laptop? what can I do about it?

A:A small window opens when restarting

You can start off by checking task manager and disable all unnecessary programs at startup to see if that box goes away. If so, start re-enabling them, one at a time, until your problems returns. I have other ideas but I think you need to eliminate a startup program as the root cause first. Of course, a malware infection cannot be specifically ruled out at this time either. Good luck.

Hi,

I have xp pro on this computer and every time I click on a link on a web page, a new i/e window opens but the problem is, that window is half the size of my monitor and I have to maximize it every time. When I open a fresh i/e window by double clicking on i/e, I don't have that proble. It's only when I click on a clickable link on a web page. How do I fix it ?

TIA.

A:I/e Opens In A Small Window By Default

A quick way is to expand it to the size you want, or full screen. Now hold shift and exitfrom the File/Exit. When you try again it should stay on the last defaulted size.

A:Link Window Opens Small

Start IE, right click any URL and select Open in a New Window.
Go back to the first IE window you opened and close it.
Return to the second window and manually drag it to desired size.
(Do not use the maximize button)
Close this second window, using the close box.
All IE windows should now open to that size.

Hello,

I have a Gateway laptop running Windows XP SP3. When I open the services window, either through Administrative Tools or by running services.msc, the service description text on the left side of the window is very small. I don't know how to fix this, but it is too small to read comfortably or click on "Start/Stop" for each service.

I have tried decreasing/increasing the DPI size and setting it back to normal. I also tried reinstalling SP3, along with the Microsoft Management Console, but to no avail. I have not seen this issue with small text anywhere else on my computer.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Hello Everyone,

Lately I've been getting this small blue pop up window appearing in the lower right hand corner of my screen whenever I go online. At first it only appeared whenever I went on any site that had anything to do with purchasing something, like ebay...but now it just appears randomly all the time.

Its not part of the browser because it doesn't go away even if I close the browser window.

I've attached a screen shot with some red arrows pointing to it.
If you notice, the top right corner of the little window cuts off its own "X"..so I can't even close it.

Thanks in advance for your help guys!!

Trying to help my father. He has SBC Yahoo DSL with their browser, but also has the same problem with IE 7.0. Every time he is on a web page and clicks on a link that opens in a new window or tab it opens up in a very small window. He then has to click on maximize or drag it open to get it full size. We tried dragging it open and then closing it hoping that it would save it but that didn't work. We also tried another suggestion to click on view then refresh the holding down ctrl while closing- same problem. It only happens when a link opens in a new window not when a link opens in the current window. He has a fairly new computer with XP.
Thanks, Kurt

A:Links Opening In A New Window Are Very Small

Hi Kurt. The click and drag to maximize thing usually works. However, when you close the new window for the first time you must use File>Exit to close it, not the quick close X in the upper right hand corner. If that's what you're doing, have your father open a few hyperlinks in seperate windows, drag them full screen then close all the windows, including the original, via File>Exit from the toolbar. It "should" stick. If you've already used that method let us know.

A:Solved: Size of Window on Opening is too small

oh, thats bad, i used to fix these problems a lot, it's due to settings of last window state not saving in registry, try this & You can easily return to a full screen again

1. Close all instances of excel that are currently open, except for one.
2. go to file (or the arrow drop menu) and choose new file.
3. Close the first instance of excel that was originally open using the “X” in the top corner.
4. Resize the existing window by dragging the top and sides until it is as per your need.
5. Click the “X” in the top corner while holding down the Ctrl key.

The next time you open your excel, the window will once again appear full screen.

Hello all,

This situation just manifested itself a few days ago and I cannot seem to find the answer to it.

Before it happened, when I clicked on my shortcut for Microsoft Explorer browser window it would always open up into a large screen (not maximized, but a full screen). Now, it opens up in a small window and I have to maximize it or drag the corners out to the edges of my monitor each time to make it into a big screen. I really don't know what changed this all of a sudden and, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get it back to where it was.

Any ideas or help out there would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Here's a nice selection of fast & efficient window managers in case KDE, Gnome & the likes run too slow.

IceWM ( Nodsu's favourite )

FluxBox

PekWM

You can also mix them, for example use fluxbox with Gnome ( instead of the default MetaCity WM ).

There are quite a few of those faster, more "subtle" WM, if you have any good ones, post them here.

When opening a video with wmp 12 the "now playing" window always opens as a very tiny window or, if "fit player to video" is checked, adjusts itself to the size of the video. When manually adjusting the size of the window and then closing the application and opening a new video, the "now playing" window goes back to being tiny. I have tried checking and unchecking both "fit player to video" and "fit video to player on resize" under "video" on the right click menu. With previous versions of windows media player it was possible to adjust the window size and have all the videos adjust to that size. Is this a bug or a new feature? Or is there a way to change back to the old way? I'm using windows 7 RC x64.

A:Windows Media Player 12 Now Playing window too small

I think this is expected behavior. Have you tried playing the video in the Library view?

edit: I think I found something of a workaround but maybe its not entirely what you want. If you open Windows Media Player (without opening a file) and switch to the Now Playing view, hold the ctrl button while resizing the window. Then exit and open a file. On my computer it will pop up at the same size I had just resized it to.

Does anyone have "small" Favorites Menu opening Start window? any suggestions to the following problem I m running Windows with IE If I go to quot Start - Start Menu Favorites opening "small" window? Favorites quot and select any of my favorites including my homepage IE opens the browser as a quot small quot window not fit to screen If I navigate to my quot User - Favorites quot folder and click from there it s the same thing However if I click on my IE icon in my taskbar my homepage opens quot full quot every time I would like my favorites to also open to fit the screen I have tried the obvious maximizing it then closing it normally dragging the edges of the small window to fit the screen and then closing with quot x quot and also with quot ctrl-file-exit quot and quot shift-file-exit quot - the only suggestions I ve been able to find so far but nothing is working In my start menu - programs I have right clicked on both the and bit IE Explorer icons and selected for them to open maximized but it hasn t helped I recently had a run in with the quot SmartHDD quot virus but this problem existed long before that issue I have done a reset on the browser after the smarthdd issue I reinstalled the browser but I d assume there may be something other than the browser causing this problem Scans with AVG Spybot Malwarebytes Superantispyware are not showing any problems with the pc Any suggestions aside from installing programs that will open windows maximized any warnings against using programs such as IEmaximizer Thanks

A:Start Menu Favorites opening "small" window?

Close all but one (1) IE window. "Grab" the corners of the remaining window with your cursor and "stretch" it to the desired size but do NOT maximize it! Now close the resized window. The resized window MUST be the last window closed in order for its size to be remembered.Or you can install IE New Window Maximizer and forget about it!http://www.jiisoft.com/iemaximizer/The above is a quote from M/soft Help desk - The MVP people seem to think this program is OK to use -Hope this helps -Regards -

I downloaded a couple of arcade game demos from Kraisoft very good actually but the problem is that they only appear in a smallish box in the middle of my screen There are no options in the game menu to go to full screen mode I sent an e-mail to Kraisoft about it and they sent me back a brief reply saying quot The problem with the games running not in full-screen mode is typically caused by multi-monitor out settings of video card You may need to open display properties choose quot Advanced quot in Attributes tab and adjust monitor out settings to turn multi-monitor out of quot What does that mean I went to Display Settings Advanced and there are a lot of tabs there but I don t know which ones to open window on screen Games small only laptop my in a tweak I have XP Home One box shows a diagram of two screens named and Only is activated It is set at x or something similar That s the maximum screen resolution available when I m using the computer normally The non-activated screen is set at x much smaller anyway Why do I have two screen options at all As must be obvious from this post I m rather lost so if anyone could provide a few simple instructions on how to get the games to play in full screen I d be really grateful Thanks nbsp

A:Games only open in a small window on my laptop screen

Most laptops have a SVGA (video) output to connect to a projector for presentations, or to a monitor (so you dont have to stare at the laptop screen when at home). Typically to disable, you should be able to go into the display settings (where you see the two monitors), click on the secondary monitor, and select disable. Otherwise, you must click advanced, and locate the option to disable the secondary output (typically a check box).

You should be able to contact your system manufacturer for specific information and steps. Otherwise, please provide the model number of the laptop.
Thanks,

I have tried all the common fixes with no success,

I have tried opening one window then another and draging the second window to the full screen size and then closing the first and second windows while holding the ctrl key

I have tried to reset IE settings, all that has done is NOTHING to help.

This started happening after I just did a fresh install of Windows 7, it happened last time but it was so long ago I forget how I fixed it back then.

Surely I am not the only one to have this issue and surely there has to be a fix that works, I just wish I could fine it!!!

I appreciate any help

Run a full scan with Malwarebytes

Then run SFC -SCANNOW Command

Do you remember when this started? If so try to System Restore to a point before the problem began. The programs which were installed since then might be causing the problem.

I would also want a Clean Boot and to scan logs and utilize System Resources given in these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

Hi, a small blue windows appears quickly only when the computer is connected to the internet, and then the computer shuts down. The window appears too quickly to read it thouroughly, but it may say something about dumpreg. I've attached the logs, editing the name of one of my friend's folders to "...," as the folder name is my friend's real name. The viruses appear to be in the startup folder, but when I go there I can't find them. Thanks. p.s. I like the caveat that appears in the DDS download about the volunteers at bleeping computer not being paid staff, so common courtesy is appreciated. Must have gotten a lot of disgruntled responses (and maybe still do before from people who want you to "hurry up and fix my bleeping computer!"

I am having an odd issue that I am unsure how to fix. Attached is a simple picture of what's going on. Essentially my window will not fully maximize and there is a strip just above my taskbar that shows my desktop background. This occurs using internet browsers or programs like Powerpoint or Word or anything, really. That small strip above my taskbar is always present unless I go full screen into a game or video or something of the sort. I can drag the window around and it will fill up that space, but as soon as I maximize the window that space opens up again. Googleing the issue didn't help at all so I figured perhaps someone here may be able to assist. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Hi

I am trying to remove or change my name from on a laptop in the Windows 7 Home Edition Registry. I found I cannot remove it or change it in the HomeGroupProvider ServiceData in the Registry. If you try to Delete it or change it I get - Unable to delete all specified values - any ideas??? it show up in three different ones. NetworkName , Owner and OwnerMachineName and three different HomeGroupProvider ServiceData places.

Do not want to reload Windows 7 since do not have Discs and Activation number on bottom is too worn to see it all.

There should be a way to access these values and change in the Registry. Something is not allowing it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

P.s. - I read somewhere that a 3-pack of Home keys can only be used to 'upgrade' an old copy of xp etc.. is this true? Or can I buy a 3-pack and use the keys on all my computers for fresh installs?

You cannto use a Windows 7 Home key for a Windows 7 professional install. If you wanted to find out the key, you should've downloaded Magical Jellybean Keyfinder and written down the key from there BEFORE you reformatted. that key is long gone now and unless you have the COA on the cd box, then you will have to buy a new key. Also, you can use your upgrade cd to perform a clean install as explained in this tutorial: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Hi Everyone,

I am not sure which Windows update caused this, but ever since that download, whenever I close a window, the little blue disc keeps turning until the window DOES finally close. (Hope you understand what I'm saying.) This happens after closing EACH window, ALL the time.

Essentially, it takes a few extra secs for the closed window to really close. It's irritating/frustrating because I don't know how to fix it. I've put as much of my comp's info in my profile as I know or could find. Have been working with comps for six or so years. Not a total dummy, help alot of friends , and always reaching to learn more.

Have never seen this problem anywhere or it would be fixed by now, lol Can't STAND the waiting it causes til I can move onto something else.

Any suggestions?? PLEASE???

CompInfo: Vista Ultimate, IE8--See Profile for more.

I thank you for your time.

A:Closing a window causes little blue disc to turn til window finally DOES close

Assuming that you are using IE go to>tools>internet options>advanced>resest and see if that helps.
Second try with clean boot to see if some software is behind the problem

If it works follow the instructions to find the precise cause

i couldnt think of how to describe it for the title easily and I am about to go home to maybe tomorrow I will work it out.

My Vista box is currently demonstrating curious behaviour. When I open IE7 I select a favorite and it opens a new window with that favorite in it. If I do a search with my default provider in the original window, the search results appear in a new tab in the second window.

The second window does not display this behaviour. It works normally with my standard settings - open favorites in the current tab.

Again, favorites chosen in the first window continue to appear in the second window. Search results too.

Running IE7 in safe mode stops this behaviour but I have not installed any new software and I have removed all my temporary internet files/addon settings etc.

Any ideas would be great. Funny old game eh

Been messing with this for days. When I open the Control Panel I do not have the option to switch the view on the left side pane. All that is there is the See Also window. I went to view, Toolbar, Customize and added the views icon to the toolbar. As long as I keep the customize toolbar box open and move it up or down I can see it on the toolbar. Once I close the Customize Toolbar window the view icon grays out on the tool bar. My back button is the same way. I checked in another users window and the control panel is fine. In the Control Panel window click on the Tools tab > Folder Options, click on the "Show common tasks in folders" button and click OK or Apply. That should restore the Category and Classic View options.

A:Window's Will Not Connect?

Hi MissGoody, and welcome to BleepingComputer. If you have the Windows installation disk try running the Recovery Console from the CD.Note: You may need to change the boot order in the BIOS so that the CD-ROM is the first device in the boot order to be able to boot from the Windows installation disk.To run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, follow these steps:1. Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the]Recovery Console.4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.5. At the command prompt, type the appropriate commands to diagnose and repair your Windows XP installation. For a list of commands that are available in Recovery Console, type recovery console commands or help at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.For information about a specific command, type help commandname at the command prompt, and then press ENTER..6. To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654
