Preferred Solution: 1.10 GB free space in Safe Mode, in Normal 804 MB free space?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just guessing here but not everything lots in Safe Mode so it is not using the same that it does with a Normal boot up.

My monitor going to sleep mode if I connect to my nvidia VGA card card.
LG monitor saying "SLEEP MODE ACTIVATED" Red light is blinking
BUT
I connect to my on board VGA it's working properly....
Please Help

Advance thanks .....

A:VGA card on Sleep Mode

The "sleep mode activated" message is normal on the monitor if it is receiving no signal from the PC (VGA card). You need to connect it to on board VGA and tell your system which card to use (or which order) in the BIOS. I cannot tell you how to get into BIOS since I do not know your PC brand/model.

I recently cloned my old 160gb hdd on to a new 1tb hdd, then proceeded to format my old hdd. After formating it had lost 128gb only showing 32gb. Hi I have a 450GB hard drive and had only used up less than half of it.. or so I thought. Yesterday for some reason my disk space had been reduced to 38GB remaining. I ran WinDirStat and it told me my hard drive had 191 GB used space (which means I should have plenty of extra space) but when I right click the drive and look at properties it tells me that I have 416 GB used space! Help what is going on here?

A:Where is my disk space?

Download MiniTool Partition Wizard and check the drive that way. You may have a section of the hard drive not currently associated with a drive letter or you may have a defective hard drive. It's a free program and it will show you right on the screen every part of your hard drive (even if it is not showing elsewhere in other programs).
Also, you should probably run Disk Cleanup from within Windows. That will clear out old temp files.

HI, I was wondering if it is safe to use an atx psu on a motherboard with an eatx power connector. The motherboard has a 24-pin eatx and a 4-pin atx 12v connector. I bought the motherboard and started using an atx psu and everything seems to work ok then realized after it was an eatx power connector on the motherboard. Are there eatx psu's? Thanks

A:Safe to use ATX PSU on a motherboard with an EATX power connector?

EATX is a form factor (12"x13") not a power connector. I'm assuming you are talking about using a PSU with a 20 pin (old ATX) connector with a newer motherboard that has a 24 pin (current ATX) connector. If that is the case you will need to consult your motherboard's manual. Some 24 pin boards run fine with only 20 pins some don't. The issue is that each pin in only rated to carry a certain amount of current (Amps). If you overload one of these pins your risk burning or melting the ATX connector on either the PSU, Motherboard, or both.

I am working on a Toshiba L750 laptop with Windows 7, it was booting to the desktop for a few seconds and then turning off, if I boot into safe mode it works fine. Thinking it was software related I am in the process of reloading the software using the recovery partition software but it seems to be now doing the same now it loading the various programs on top of windows.
Any suggestions gladly received.

A:Toshiba laptop turning off but OK when in safe mode.

I would suspect the graphic card driver, or that the screen resolution is set too high.
Safe mode boots the pc with the minimum, but working MS drivers.
You could try safe mode, then device manager, and uninstall the graphic card driver. Then do a normal boot .
Windows should fall back to a reliable MS driver running in SVGA mode, or just above that. It should be stable.
I would also run 'sfc /scannow', to try to correct any simple Windows O/S problems.
Best source for the drivers would be Toshiba's site.
( Of course it could also be overheating but not if it's fine in safe mode.)

As you can see from the screenshot, somehow I have acquired a partition of unallocated space of approx 195 GB...I want to delete this partition, adding the extra GB to my main, OS:C partition, but I cannot figure out how to do it...Can someone help? Thanks a lot,

A:Deleting Unallocated Space Partition

It is already deleted, that is why you can't.

What you can do is grow your C partition into that space (forget whether it is called merge or grow or expand).

Hello all,

I've recently bought a HP Pavilion 15-n252sq laptop, with Free Dos - unfortunately I can't install Windows 7 over it, due to the following error I keep receiveing in the Installation screen:

"Select the driver to be installed" - and regardless of the paths I have and the available folders, I can not seem to proceed wtih the W7 installation.

Please notice that, I've tried to use both a W7 DVD and also a bootable USB drive (and yes, connected in the USB 2.0 port and not USB 3.0 ) - but I always get to the same point where I have to select drivers.

Please also notice that the BIOS doesn't allow me to make any modifications except for some minor ones (like select boot priority, or enable USB 3.0), as the rest of the MAIN features are greyed out .

Can anyone please help me with this issue?

Regards,
Adrian

Hi all,
I am writing because from few weeks I can not solve this problem of connection:
if the computer is in safe mode there aren't problems, while in normal mode, the following programs don't connect / update:
Internet Explorer 11, Dropbox, Malwarebytes, Mozilla Thunderbird, Flash player update, Java update, StartUp Delayer.

While Firefox, Chrome, Emsisoft Anti-Malware (Antivirus), Online Armor (firewall), and other programs work and update normally.

I've tried and tried various "solutions" found in the Web and in the Forums, but without any result.

I noticed that Dropbox and StartUp Delayer "tell" me that's is probably a Proxy problem.
I honestly have never used a proxy, and tried in every way possible to disable any proxy, but nothing changed, same issue.

I tried uninstalling antivirus and firewall, but the issue still remain, the same as resetting the connection settings and even Windows Firewall (which is usually disabled).

This problem is present both with ethernet connection and wireless.
I use a HP dv6000 notebook with Windows Professional 64bit.

I thank you if you can help me, because I really don't know how to fix this problem =/

Thank you,
Elia

A:Windows 7 - only connect to internet in Safe Mode with some softwares

I MIRACULOUSLY solved this situation!

Among the many details I forgot to say that for the connection I use a router, and after several attempts to copy the settings from a computer connected to the same network, I tried to enter the DNS entry of the parameter TCP/IPv4 (in connection properties) 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.7 ..and all began to work perfectly.

I can not explain, howeve, why the other computer works even without these two values.

But I'm happy that this (strange) situation is solved, and hope this can help someone else

Have a nice day,
Elia

The computer has 2 750gb hard drives in it but I noticed it was awful slow for a dual quad core computer with win 7 64 bit and 16gb of ram so I checked in the bios and I don't really see a way to turn it completely off unless the hard drives are reformatted in some way. You can't just take drives that have a RAID array on them and expect them to work when you turn RAID off. You'll need to re-format.

Anyway, the Dell BIOS has an option for HDD mode, it's in there.

This guy over at Overclock.net says that his 4770K gets up to 60C when gaming. Your radiator might be dirty and may need to be cleaned. Hi friends,

I want to overclock my AMD Athlon II X2 245 Processor Bus frequency in BIOS doing so will cause any side effects to my system? can I do so?

My Configuration:

Motherboard: ASUS M4N68T-M V2
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 245
RAM: 2GB DDR3
HDD: 80 GB

A:Is it safe to overclock CPU

It's almost always safe to attempt an overclock on a CPU, however it is unsafe to be careless with your overclock.

You're likely to be limited by your CPU cooler if you are using the stock heat sink, and it is not good for your CPU to overheat. However you can probably still get a decent overclock that should make a noticeable difference

Increase the clock speeds nice and slow, checking the temperatures each time whilst running a stress test (such as Prime95). I'd recommend keeping the temperatures below 80 degrees (Celsius) at 100% load, maybe a bit lower if you live in a hot place (the temperature may increase during the hottest part of the day). When you've reached a nice temperature, run Prime for at least 12-24 hours to ensure that the clock is stable.

I just noticed: Bus frequency? Why not adjust the multiplier? I'd do that first.

Personally, I wouldn't use anything smaller then a 64GB SSD. A 32GB SSD will be good for a cache drive but not a boot drive. I think the 128GB & 256GB drives work best. They give you a lot of room for OS + Core Programs.

Prob basic stupidity, so bear with a troubled mind! I've been dumped with an Aspire 5020 to get up and running by a mate. Hard drive was fritzed so I got a second hand 80 gig drive and installed it. Went to install XP on the drive, but it would only format to 62%. I decided to partition it, with the operating system on C. Created a partition of 10gig. XP then installed with no problem.

Now I cannot see anything but C drive (10 gig) in My Comp, but if I open Disk Management, C Drive shows in the top section, but the rest of the drive only shows up as 60 gig unallocated space underneath.

Could some very kind person tell me how I can allocate a drive letter/format this unallocated space please?

Many thanks!

A:XP Pro 64: unallocated disk space

In Disk Management, right click on that unallocated space and create new primary partition. That should do it.

Edit for additional thoughts:
Before you do that, I can't remember if XP64 will allow you to expand a partition into unallocated space or not. If it does, I would urge you to consider giving the C partition more than 10 gigs. Sure XP will install and run fine on less, but a few months down the road you'll be running low on free space. Might be safer to give it 20. Or even consider just having the drive 1 big partition... If XP's disk management won't let you expand it, you might make and boot off a gparted disk and expand the partition that way.

Hi, I've recently bought a new laptop because the former one had huge, unfixable overheating issues even if I used a cooling pad, didnt play games etc. It was a Acer Aspire 5738G.
My new one is a HP Pavillion G6.
I haven't had any major overheating issues with it yet and it has an average CPU temp of 40-45C when I'm only surfing, which I know is completely normal/safe. When I play games like GTA San Andreas or other older games it goes to around 55C and reaches 60C if I've played it for more than one hour.
Yesterday I tried L.A. Noire, which is a pretty new game and it didnt take more than 5 minutes for the CPU to reach 70C, which gave me haunting memories of the Acer Aspire.
Is this normal/safe? Should I lower the settings?

CPU: Intel i7-3612QM
AMD Radeon HD 7670M (1 GB DDR3)

A:Reaching 70°C when playing a game like L.A. Noire normal?

70c is not to bad try keep the laptop cool as possible. just keep the heat vent clear and you should be fine.
some model of HP do have overheating issues.

A:Is this temperature safe...

Are you using the stock CPU cooler or an aftermarket one? 70C on the stock cooler is probably expected and won't damage your CPU. 70C on the GPU is very normal.

hellow,

when i start my pc, my temperature is always around 68C and my cores between 64C and 70C

is that normal?

A:PC temperature normal?

that's not healthy at all.it could probably be thermal compound/grease, remove the heat sink of the processor and scrub out the old thermal grease for your CPU then apply a new one.

windows 7 is taking up a load of space on my ssd 60 gb and its close to full now even with all 3rd party software on a different drive, I was thinking of deleting language packs and possibly amd drivers which come stock, any tips or advice on how I would go about doing this. I have already uninstalled windows media center and internet explorer as I dont use them anyways

A:Save space on SSD

Honestly, I would say get a bigger drive. 60GB isn't really enough for windows and core programs. You can uninstall all you want. Eventually you will run into the same problem.

Check out this benchmark of Skyrim,

It has the HD 6750 included- At 1920/1200 the game performance drops just below playable FPS. So I am sure it is safe to say it will run Skyrim.

I checked the voltage with both BIOS and Intel desktop utilities, it's 1.6V when set at default BIOS settings. The RAM is APACER 1333Mhz (2 sticks, 4 GB each), and the motherboard is Intel dh67cl.
Why is the default voltage for my RAM 1.6V? Should the default voltage be that high?

A:Is 1.6V safe for RAM?

Well the only major difference between 1.5V and 1.65V RAM is that the 1.65V is a little hotter. also It draws more power.
I'm not a big RAM expert though, I only know the basics of latency and timings and stuff, so I'm sure someone else will be able to help you out.

BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. v6.01 9/29/10

If its an OEM machine its likely that the options required to overclock your cpu in bios will be locked. Gpu should not be a problem with some third party software.

Read some overclock guides here at techspot, watch your temps and you should be good to go.

So I have intel core i5 2320 3Ghz processor and when I dont do anything with computer just surfing on net I got about 40C-45C temperature. I cheack temperature with Speccy program. However when I playing game like gta 4 I got form 70-75 temperature and one time I got 80 but its was just for one time. So and I have fews questions, its normal, its safe ? And when I playing game like crysis gta 4 I got fps drop in some places, but I hear that is normal when fps drop in some places on gta and crysis, fps drop is not so big. On other game no fps drop like postal and mafia II. But maybe it can have influence for performance I dont know so that why I ask you.

A:It's this temperature normal for processor and games performance?

Slowing down depends on what's happening on-screen, e.g. the FPS during an explosion or a lot of smoke/dust would be lower than normal. But at high temps, thermal throttle would kick in, slowing things down.
Anyhow, to the thread's main question:
The "normal" temps depends on ambient temps, really. 30C, while hot for Antarctica, is a miracle for Sahara. Knowing your ambient temps and system configuration/placement would help.
But if you are uncomfortable with those temps (should be, IMHO), refer to the Cooling Guides in my signature for help.

Marnomancer.

I tried using the promiscuous scanner to find out if the network adapter is in promiscuous mode. Ironically, the application requires the sniffer to be activated for the promiscuous scanner to work. Wouldn't this make the whole scan pointless as now the network adapter has enter promiscuous mode anyway. So it is useless.

If I see * asterisks signs, under the 31 bit group does that mean it is in promiscuous mode?

Any information about this would be appreciated.

Hi there everyone.

I recently purchased a new PCI sound card, Asus Xonar DG 5.1, for my computer. I am pretty new to actually putting things in my computer lol and so I am asking for help . I have a GeForce GTX 280 and those who know about this card, its a pretty big video card and so I hardly have space for the PCI slot. I put in the sound card like this:

I was just wondering if this is safe and okay to do? Is it possible for the sound card to melt from the heat of the GFX card and the computer itself?

Thank you very much!
Sunny.

Hi,

Restored laptop (Acer Aspire 5735, OS Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit) to factory settings a few months ago and noticed that there was a lot of space being used up on C: drive even though I hadn't started installing programs and putting files back on to laptop.

Used SpaceSniffer to see where all the space was being used up and it only found the C: drive to have size of 38.1GB even though it should have 69.6GB. Also ran WinDirStat and that also said C: drive had size 38.1GB.

Any suggestions on why there seems to be 31.5GB missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
thanks!

A:Missing hard drive space after restoring laptop to factory settings

"it should have 69.6GB"...
Is the drive 80GB unformatted? Did you format the drive when starting the restore? This is known as a "destructive" restore. If you didn't, it is possible that the old Vista files are still on the drive, along with the new files, taking up the space

SO I install a 120MM fan... which is 5.000 rpm let's say.
What is the difference with a 120mm fan of 1.000 rpm?
More means better COOLING -BUT- more SOUND? Which is the "normal" speed of a fan?

Hello tech forums My friends computer has been having a very odd issue regarding cpu usage I noticed it when trying to play DC universe online and noticed big fps issues in character creation all settings being turned down After that I monitored resources to see if anything is amiss and soon enough I saw my cpu usage randomnly spiking Also it easily hits and is probably trying to use more when DC Universe is on The other odd thing I saw was that the cpu usually operated at a higher frequency than actually being used in resource manager I have uninstalled Startup toolbar updater thinking it was using too. reason. Already for no malware overused CPU free tested being too much resources and have used the malware tech support to see if it was a infestation of any kind No dice all scans came up relatively CPU being overused for no reason. Already tested malware free too. clean My only other thought is that it might be DMA being reverted to PIO or some software issue This is my last shot before I reformat this frigging labtop gt lt Only thing stopping me is the possibility that it might be hardware though I can t imagine why On another note maybe the cpu is just messed up Whenever it spikes i don t see a reason why nbsp

A:CPU being overused for no reason. Already tested malware free too.

Okay some new observations. With a room temp of 12 C my CPU idles at 45 C. Mobo is seeing 25 C during this. Also just watching the CPU usage through speed fan for a couple of hours I noticed that it likes to dance between 2% - 5% constantly. Occasionally spike to 30% or 50%. Also, it can't hand DC universe at all. Through CPU-Z The processor seems to be acting normal. It runs at half power when it's not being used much and jumps to normal speed. That might explain a little bit of spikage, but it's performance overall doesn't make sense. It shouldn't be jumping so high when I start DC online.

Will the parts be safe during shipping (by plane)? And are there certain parts that can easily break or might not work properly? A:Wavy lines an weird colors even in safe mode!

Normally a virus won't do such things.. It is your card but disabling the video card in device manager and continuing using the video card port wont change anything you must go back using the onboard card port if your mobo have any then you may see the difference.

Also if you recently update try to rollback to previous version to see and if the same then use the onboard video to see and if it work on onboard video therefore your video card is faulty.

Hi Belvadier,

A:Mouse freezing in and out of safe mode

First I would advise you never use a registry cleaner unless you know exactly what it is removing, they can do more harm than good.

My first thought is that your hard drive may be failing so please follow this guide to run the manufacturer's diagnostics.

Identify the make of your hard drive and then use one of the links below to get the manufacturers diagnostic for ISO CD. Burn the image file to a CD, boot the PC with the disc in the drive and run the diagnostics. You first need to set the CD drive to 1st in the boot order in the Bios setup.

If you do not have an image burner use this free software to make the CD.

A few weeks ago, my wife's laptop had a problem with malware. Microsoft security essentials took care of it. After that she ran a full scan. Ever since she ran that full scan, she can only connect to the internet in safe mode. Other than that, her computer seems to be working fine.

She has Windows 7 and Internet explorer 8.

Alright, So today i began playing brink- Had everything on Max settings etc. My comp got pretty loud due to sucky stock CPU cooler on my AMD 965BE processor, so i decided to check the temperatures during gaming. I seen my CPU hit 55c , which i think isn't exactly too bad considering my cooling situation, but I'm not completely sure if i should game with it constantly getting that hot.

I do plan to replacing it in the next week or two, do you guys think i will be fine until i grab my new CPU cooler?

Thanks In advance

I am talking to a friend over the phone so I don't have the computer in front of me for all of the details. He has an older XP computer probably 2005. It won't start in any other mode. All he wants to do is pull pictures off of it. If the computer never works again its ok. Is there a Linux dist that I can put on a usb that can see these files and pull them off? Or does he have a a better chance of hooking up the old hard drive as a slave in his newer computer?

I seem to be experiencing really high GPU temps when playing Brink. I have a GTX570 Superclocked, with 2 24" monitors. Case and card are both free of any dust build up. The card is only 3months old, it idels at around 50c and max temp ive seen even running Crysis 2 is only 65c/68c. however when playing Brink(1980*1050, everything on medium) my GPU temp went to 85c! Fan speed was set manualy to 85%(cant go any higher using EVGA Precision). Can anyone tell me if this is safe/ok? My specs E8500, Asus P5N32-E SLI, 4Gb DDR2 667Mhz, Corsair 650W PSU, Antec 900 with 4 120mm and 1 200mm

A:Safe GPU temperature for superclocked GTX 570

Seems a little warm on idle but that may be because your house is warm.

Other than that 85 sounds about right at 100% gpu load.

I would however turn your fan speed back to auto, and monitor fan speed in game to see if it rises above 85% speed itself, and also your temps.

I have tried to connect two different monitors to a CPU. A LG Flatron L1915S that just goes into power saving mode when started and a Samsung syncmaster 225bw that gives a message "check cable".

Both monitors work on other CPUs. The current CPU does not have a VGA connection. With an adaptor I can connect a VGA or a DVI cable (Flatron only have VGA possibility).

I guess the problem is in the CPU but how can I troubble-shoot? Is it the graphics card (how do I check that?) or can I somehow adjust the monitors to accept the signal from the CPU?

A:Screen goes into energy saving mode when connected

Can you give some more info about what you are using?
Is your PC a known make and model, or is it built up by you?
Both of your monitors are telling you that they are not getting any input, in different ways, and I am guessing you are using a separate Graphic card in an AGP or PCI-express slot on the motherboard.
You say your PC does not have a VGA output, so you only have a choice of one Graphic card, and socket.
So in that case, you have to try it in another pc, OR get a different card to try in your pc.
Can you say if your card has worked before? In your PC or a different one?

Hello with on on of Ran installed Windows space it out partition I need some help advice on a problem I am having with a new desktop I put together myself I m sure I have made some rookie mistakes along the way but this is why I did it for the learning process Anyhow a problem I have already encountered is when installing windows I partitioned a gb hard drive with one partition for the os with gb and two more partitions for storage Ran out of space on partition with Windows installed on it with the remainder of the unallocated memory Now the partition with my os is gb full and I know I am going to encounter problems I tried to shrink one of the storage partitions to leave gb of unallocated space to extend on the os partition but windows disk management tool does not allow you to do that Is my only option reinstalling windows onto one of these larger partitions and then formatting the old one I am fairly new to tech spot so If I am not using proper posting etiquette feel free to let me know Thank you any help would be appreciated nbsp

A:Ran out of space on partition with Windows installed on it

You can extend the partition that you have installed Windows into, but in my opinion it would be a better idea to use a program such as Easus Partition manager; at;
http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm
The free (Home) version is fine for a job like this.
An alternative I have used is at;
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
These programs work in a similar way, by showing the partitions as they exist now.
You click once on the one you need to resize (to highlight it), then right-click, choose 'resize', drag the end markers out to where you want the partition to be,
click 'apply'. That's it, it does all the rest, and can take a few minutes to complete.
Note that it is a very good idea to when making major changes like this, to make a system image onto an external hard drive, just as insurance. But this method has worked perfectly for me on several different makes of drive, (1TB Seagate, 4 partitons) and
Iomega 320GB (3 partitions).

I have an IBM T41 XP SP2 that was connecting fine then connected for 5 min or so and had to reboot to get back on line. Now it wont connect at all unless in safe mode. Have 2 other computers in the house that work fine one is wired one is wireless. The one having issues will not work wired or wireless. Have tried adware virus scan search and destroy, and malware. Still no go. Thanks in advance.

Attached is my Hijack this log

A:Internet only works in safe mode

What were you doing that required you to reboot? A possible software installation or update that may have knocked the ethernet and wifi drivers out of wack.

have you checked your tcp/ip settings? are you getting an ip at all? is it set to dhcp or set to static ip?

Also when you open your browser in the network settings. It could be possible that theres a proxy ip in the settings. This can be caused by adware and spyware. Though you said scans came up clean, its still worth to check.

What browser are you running? Internet explorer, firefox, google chrome?

Also what antivirus/firewall software are you running.

I do see black ice in the hijackthis log.

Also have you checked device manager to see if there are any driver issues with the Ethernet card or wireless card? I highly doubt this is a driver issue. Not to often do i see both wired and wireless drivers go bad. But i have very rarely seen a computer lose all its drivers due to a virus.

Hijack this log really didnt really show me much that could cause the problem.

Hey guys, I'm going to get a Core i7 2600k for my new gaming build but I'm unsure about how the turbo-mode is affected by overclocking. The stock speed of this processor is 3.4GHz which goes up to 3.8GHz with turbo-mode.

If I overclock it to 4.4GHz does this mean that it will run at 3.4GHz with turbo-mode going up to 4.4GHz? Or will it run at 4.4GHz all the time?

Thanks in advance!

A:How is turbo-mode affected by overclocking the 2600k?

From my experience with the previous Generation, if you overclock with turbo on it just increases the turbo auto clock, so turn it off, and control everything manually to get the overclock you desire.

Try plugging the external drive into another PC and see if it does the same thing.

Regardless of whether or not the hard drive is failing, you should back up your data as soon as possible. If you wait until it actually fails, it will be too late. Maybe you'll have to buy another hard drive but it will be cheap compared to losing your files.

A:Nvidia GT220 problems with Borderlands, Dead Space and others

I would switch back to the 9800GT, the GT220 is quite a low spec card. Nvidia is known to re badge cards, and from memory the 8800GT, 9800GT and even the GTS250 where based off the same architecture just with minor improvements. For a upgrade card I would chose either a GTX 560 or Radeon 6950, pccasegear.com.au has some brands both at $299, they should last a couple more years. Also you will need a new Power supply, go for a nice 850W like the corsair HX range which has 70A on the +12v rail. most high end cards need atleast 40Amps or more and minimum of 550W.

I hope this helped abit.

A:Radeon HD 5870 Crossfired low fps on Dead Space 2?

Probably a Crossfire driver issue I would guess. Have you tried playing the game using one card?
You may need to wait until AMD release a newer version of the CrossfireX application profile for some better compatibility. The present CAP was a 24 Jan release which would indicate that the driver itself is around a month old.

Single card performance shouldn't give you the same grief. It looks less than graphically demanding judging by this review benchmark out today.

I noticed that my PC was being reeaally slow recently so I attempted to clear some space, I did all the usual stuff: deleted unused programmes, emptied the recycle bin etc but its still slow and showing just 3% space remaning!!

How can this be? Surely I can't have used all the capacity!! How do I see what's using the most space?

Anyone?

Any advice most appreciated...

A:Only 3% free space remaining - how come?

Hi,

Ali that is a worm/virus.
If you can try installing spybot, if you get luck with it make sure you run it, it will do it magic.
How ever to create some bit of space, you go to run, and type %temp%
press enter and shift + delete all you find there...
its safe...
Hope that helps

A:Internet only works in safe mode

Define Internet? Your internet browser or your connection?
Type:
Ping www.google.com
into command promt and see if you get ping replies.
If you do, it means you have internet but your browser doesn't, so it's either set up incorrectly or something (a crash?) caused something to be damaged. Try either reinstalling your browser or trying a new browser.

If you don't get ping replies, and you're not connected to the internet at all, that means that something that runs in normal mode (that doesn't in safe mode) is blocking your internet, or causing your connection settings to change. If your connection settings are all correct, then it may be a malicious program? I'm just guessing I dont know much in this field, but I would advise scanning for viruses and see what happens.

Good luck

I'm sure there is more factors involved and it wont make a huge difference but for the most part which is more important for gaming? (running windows 7) for example a 500gb 7200rpm 16mb cache hdd vs a 2Tb 5400-5900rpm 64mb cache.

A:Cache space vs RPM for gaming?

10,000 rpms is better but then again you have heat and PSU requirements. I use 7,200RPM either 16MB or 32MB cache. 1TB or higher users larger cache as large as 64MB. But don't buy those Green HDD they're slower and to be green and save power they spin slower. 7,200RPM is much faster less wait time. But you give up green features. The large cache just holds more I/D before it's needed. So best to use a fast spinner than a slow one.

If a PSU is plugged in the outlet and the green/black wires shorted to turn it on (no connectors to the MB or anything) are the values:
12.9, 3.8, 5.9 still too high?

When connected to the motherboard the bios voltage are much lower, around 12.2, 3.46, 5.1
and PCWizard 2010 gives an even lower reading - 11.93, 3.41 and 5.14

I'm too afraid to test it while connected to the motherboard (just in case I touch something I shouldn't with my meter probe and fry)

A:What are a PSU's normal values in the box?

In order to test a power supply correctly the psu must be connected to the motherboard and running. You are not going to fry anything. Are you using a digital multimeter?

It works in percentage tolerances.

The bare minimum is 5% and most good manufacturers go to 3%. And the really good supplies are tighter than 3%.

so for 5% they have to be between:
12v: 11.4v <--> 12.6v -- though 12.6 is not something I would want to see
5v: 4.75v <--> 5.25v
3.3v: 3.135v <--> 3.465v

And for 3% they can be between:
12v: 11.64v <--> 12.36v
5v: 4.85v <--> 5.15v
3.3v: 3.201v <--> 3.399v

* Your 3.3v is the one that stands out as pushing the tolerance levels.

I have just got a 16GB PNY flash drive 2 days ago so i could attempt to create a boot drive on it. I doubted i had set it up right so i wanted to start over. I formatted the drive, and now half of the space is missing. I am using Windows 7 so i tried using the Disk Management tool to try to find out what happened. In Disk Management I saw that the missing space still exists as unallocated space. I then tried to delete the partition so i could re-allocate all the space as one partition, but the delete option was grayed out. so now i have no idea how to get my space back.

So my question is how can I get my flash drive back to having 16gb of space on it?

I want 2 know this cause i want 2 host my Counter-strike source server on a vpn rather than hosting it on my PC.Please tell me of any u know of

A:Is there such thing of a free VPN

Not that I know of, unless you work out a deal with another Counter Strike clan to host your version on their machine as well. Setting up two dedicated Counter Strike servers on one machine might be quite a pain, though.

The system you describe in your profile should run a CSS server with out noticeably slowing down any thing.

Hey guys,
I have an HP pavilion dv2915nr laptop and I broke the screen so I removed that and hooked it up to a spare monitor.
Everything was going great until I accidentally knocked out the video cable when I was using the computer and now, every time I turn on the computer, the display shows there's no signal right after the windows loading screen. It'll only work in safe mode or if I uninstall the display adapter driver.
I don't really know what happened - I hope I don't have to replace the graphics card or anything. Please help!

Turn computer on, it only gets to the black screen w dell on it and lower right corner shows f2 set up and f12 boot options but those don't work, will not start up n safe mode

A:Vista Dell Studio black screen froze can't start in safe mode

Were there any symptoms/problems prior to this?
Remove the battery. Hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Try to boot with and without the battery.
If F2 and F12 don't work you have a serious problem,
Have you tried booting from a CD/DVD?

I'm working on a little Gateway that doesn't have a cd drive and I can't find a style name. The computer was dropped. It boots in a loop of the Microsoft logo and the Gateway logo. Can't get to safe mode and not getting a post beep. It has usb ports. Can I take out the hard drive and slave it to my desktop?

A:Can't boot to safe mode

It sounds like when the laptop was dropped the HDD was damaged, i have seen this happen a few times. Even drops from a foot or two can make the HDD useless. IF the HDD that you need to hook up to a desktop is SATA then all you need to do is put it into a desktop that has SATA too. then you could try to recover the data. If the HDD is IDE then you will need a Laptop 2.5" to Desktop 3.5" IDE Hard Drive Adapter Converter like this one for $8

Hello Recently I changed my old graphics card from an Nvidia GT to a ATI HD I also did the following manipulations to solve a problem I had with my computer mode into going Computer partially sleep side note I have WinXP - Opened my PC case with power off of course and check for connections in it my DVD drive was not correctly connected fixed it - On the motherboard there was a battery looking like a watch battery took it out for secs to restore factory settings on my motherboard - Went Computer partially going into sleep mode inside the BIOS of my motherboard and stumbled upon the fact that USB was not activated so I swiitched from USB to USB Now my problem is that when I go to Start gt Turn off the computer gt Sleep not sure it s the right word in english my WinXP is in French Anyway before when I chose that the computer would go into sleep mode without any problem and that s it But since I have my new card it doesn t It seems to the hard drives etc seems to go to sleep the screen also finds no signal and also goes to sleep but I still hear a fan running in there with as much noise as when the computer is still running normally really weird I was thinking the fan is the new graphics card I didn t install it the vendor installed it for me since i m not really a brain at internal electronics maybe there is something to connect on it to tell her when to go to sleep I dunno Or it s the proc fan Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this please Thanks a lot nbsp

A:Computer partially going into sleep mode

When you removed the CMOS battery, it reset the BIOS to default settings. I don't know what motherboard you have and the BIOS' of different boards can vary but check the Power Management page of the BIOS and see if the suspend type is set to S3 (STR).

A:Are my settings safe for linked 2wire & netgear routers?

I think you'd be better setting up your AT&T router as a switch, and then running your Netgear router as your main router.

DHCP should be setup on the Netgear router, and then that used to assign IP addresses to your networked devices.

Your AT&T one should have wireless disabled, DHCP disabled, and be assigned a static IP address. You can then use a cat 5 ethernet cable to connect the two routers.

Most of all, I would be setting up the AT&T as a DMZ, because you want the extra security it provides by isolating the internet from your private network (Netgear router).

In your situation you want the AT&T router to act purely as a switch, and nothing more. Your Netgear router can handle everything else. You also need to be aware that setting up a DMZ is more for public network devices, e.g. for webservers, so you can place them in the "public" area for net access, and hide your private network (Netgear in your case) away from it. You do not want to be connecting any devices to your AT&T router if it has DMZ enabled.

Here is a good, brief read on what DMZ is.

My HD's Total capacity is 76293MB and I have created 2 partitions. Forgetting about C: Partition 2 created ? (D) 36295MB

When I created partition D, 36295MB on my drive the actual size came up as 36287MB.

Where did the other 8 MB go

After formatting with ntfs the reported size is 35370MB

Again where does the missing space go.

Regards
Mark
