Preferred Solution: Solved: Cannot get rid of popups, no matter how I've tried

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here is the problem I just recently was given a laptop. I was told that it was hooked up to a tv with HDMI but, there was sound on the laptop. I am running Windows 7 Premium HP Pavilion g7-1318dx Notebook PC
Serial Number: 6CF2085XDS Product Number: A7A43UAR . I have no sound with just notebook speakers. I have went to the HP driver download site and tried to download the audio drivers. I receive a warning " The Hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package. Install will now abort." There are 3 Audio downloads on the Hp website none work. The speaker Icon down by the clock with a red X on it when you do a mouse roll over it says no speakers or headphones are plugged in. I have tried headphones still no sound. I have also tried to the windows trouble shooter and it says it detects no problems. Play back devices is only showing Digital Audio (HDMI) High definition Audio device not plugged in. Recording says there are no audio devises are installed in. I have tried everything any help would be appreciated.

A:No sound no matter what

I think that you need an extra lead because HDMI gives picture only. The lead I have has a mini stereo jackplug at one end which goes into the computer's headphones socket and two phono plugs (white and yellow) at the other to plug into the TV's audio input at the back. You should then be able to work out how to set up the sound via Control Panel.

Just bought a 980, now all I get is a black screen no matter what GPU I use.
Here are my specs:

Operating System
Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
Intel Core i7 4770K @ 3.50GHz 25 C
Haswell 22nm Technology
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 800MHz (9-9-9-24)
MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING (MS-7845) (SOCKET 0) 30 C
L204WT ([email protected])
Intel HD Graphics 4600 (MSI)
465GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500GB (SSD) 28 C
119GB SanDisk SDSSDHP128G (SSD) 28 C
1863GB Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 (SATA) 28 C
Optical Drives
Sound Blaster Z

I had an EVGA 780TI working great. My 980 arrived so I swapped. All I got was a black screen. After taking the card out and putting it back in a few times nothing changed. Giving up I put my 780ti back in and now that just gives me a black screen too.

Any ideas?

Edit: My mobo gives the code A0 which is normal so I don't think it detected anything was wrong.

A:Just bought a 980, now all I get is a black screen no matter what GPU I use

If your not getting an error code its probably booting up normally. It maybe defaulting to the integrated card for some reason so I would try plugging onto the on board video when booting to see what happens.

If that is the case you will just have to go into the bios and change your default video card to the PCIE.

Here again since I have the most weird problem ever which I have never seen nor heard of before. I recently upgraded the OS on a friends computer, from Vista to 7. However now I can't seem to get the onboard ethernet adapter to work, it can't be seen in device manager nor anywhere else. I have tried to reset the bios (by removing the cmos battery) and I have also checked that the network adapter is set to 'Enabled'. Also, when I connect the cable to the ethernet port no lights go on, it doesn't give any sort of hope what so ever. The cable is ok, the "modem" is ok, and everything else seems to be in order and yet it doesn't work.

Computer in question:
HP Pavilion 6530sc
Non-default GPU and added 1Gb RAM

A:Solved: Computer doesn't recognize the network adapter

Whenever you install a new OS, always take note of the model of core system hardware like GPU, chipset, and ethernet/wifi (there are a few others that aren't as important, but nice to have updated) since those are critical to your computers core functionality.

However, a quick google search of your model yielded me with your PC's system specs. Your PC contains a Realtek RTL8201N ethernet adapter. So far I am unable to find a driver from Realtek itself and the HP driver is not Realtek, but instead nVidia nForce.

So after a bit of searching, I came across this: it seems to me that you have an old chipset from nVidia. I am not completely sure, but I think you have an ION chipset. Try installing this ION chipset driver (64 bit) ==OR== this ION chipset driver (32 bit) and tell me if it works. It should include the necessary component drivers and if it works, it means you have an ION chipset like I suspected.

Here are the specifications for your PC BTW.

I was bored the other night so I No output reassembling parts video good solved after -- decided to assemble some parts I had laying around into a working system It was late and I d had a couple beers so I wasn t at my best I had some trouble installing the Hyper but finally had it all together and wired up It seemed to boot up fine all fans spinning both drives spinning but no output to video I knew that all parts came from a working system tried another No video output after reassembling good parts -- solved monitor tried a video card cleared CMOS reseated RAM no video Took it all apart and examined the mobo looking for shorted spots and cracks nothing I could see was wrong Went to bed had nightmares about electromagnetic pulse weapons testing randomly destroying computers all over the world Got up determined to fix a computer that shouldn t be broken installed the CPU and Hyper No video output after reassembling good parts -- solved again noticed that this time it lined up the screws much easier and didn t press the heatsink as tightly - looked at the instruction illustration again and realized I had the X bracket on wrong before quot breadboarded quot it and the video works Put it all back in the case testing at each step to make sure it was still getting VGA output It works fine now The extra mechanical force applied by the X bracket being wrong was enough to stress the CPU or the mobo to the point of throttling the video output somehow So for all you others who had the same problem no video after re-assembling good parts which Googled up in the hundreds this is one thing you might check When installed properly most coolers will twist a couple of degrees without too much trouble If it s rigidly immobile like mine was last night with X bracket installed wrong then something s wrong The lesson learned here is don t drink and attempt to build a computer even if it s only beers in hours nbsp

i understand how to set up dual channels with matching pairs - that is not my question. What i can't find the answer for is this:

If i have a matching pair of 512 = 1g
and a matching pair of 1g = 2g,..

Does it make a difference which pair is in which channel? Should i have 2g in channel 1 and 1g in channel 2, or would this make no difference?

thank you!!

A:Dual-channel RAM -- more in channel 1 or 2? Does it matter?

You can run different stick of RAM at the same time in Dual channel asynchronous, but I think they'll operate at single channel speeds.
If you decide to run in asynchronous mode, I think that it doesn't matter.

My question is I'm getting a new G. Card, do I get (examples, I haven't made a decision.)

1. A newer Radeon 6800 series with only 512mb of mem
or 2. A Older maybe 6500-6700 series with 1-2GB of ram?

A:Graphics cards: Does MB/GB (memory) matter?

What are your system specs and budget? What kind of PSU do you have? what's your budget?

OK! I am a noob at this!
I am running XP Pro 32-bit. I want to replace the Video Card. Nothing great or expensive...just a decent one. It for a friend (senior, that is why XP). I just got him a Dell Vostro 200 slim, added a 1TB HD and installed all drivers and XP. Please let me know 3 things:

1. Does ddr2 or ddr3 matter on the video one better to run on XP
2. 64-bit or 32-bit. I assume 64 will run on 32-bit XP
3. Any suggestions on the card or where to buy (PCI Express 2.0X16)
Thanks! Ynot

A:Does it matter if you use a DDR3 or DDR2 video card?

The only thing you need to know about buying a single graphics card:

Do I have a large enough power supply for this card?
Do I have the appropriate card slot for this card?
If the card is 2 (or 3) card slots wide do I have room in my case?
What monitor cable connector will I be using?

Everything else may be important for choosing the card you want but not needed to get the card working.

1) Graphics card memory type is irrelevant as far as the operating system is concerned.
2) I'm not sure why you are asking the second question.
3) We need to know what you will be using the card for. (A slim form factor doesn't give much options)

I wasn't able to connect through my wireless router to the internet on any of my wireless devices until I plugged in my wireless usb stick. I plugged it into one laptop, and now I can use both. Why would this happen? My mother has the same connectivity issue, and do you think I should try the same thing? It seems as though that every wireless connection that I come across has this problem lately. Every single one. I am confused, is it just me?

Renewing your IP address. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network. I used to get that error every time I tried to repair connection.

A:I have solved my limited connectivity and need some answers

I think the lack of responses here may be the result of everyone else being confused as well.

Try explaining that a little better, its not exactly clear what your problem is.

Hello there I hope I am posting in the right place First off the spec of my laptop AMD Athlon tm II P Dual-Core Processor GHz GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon HD I run Windows -bit The problem is that I cant seem to run games without getting lag For instance Dragon Age- the only requirement that my laptop might not meet is the processor dual core minimum however I can even top that I can make graphics the best quality or make it the worst it lags almost the same Oblivion that thing requires a Pentium yet I still get lag again the same situation where I can put the best or the worst graphics out? lag is there what, way no matter no Constant on The lag that I am talking about is not terrible for instance the games run at around or more FPS judging by the eye and every once in a while drops to around It is not much but definitely makes the playing experience much less enjoyable I do turn off all of the background programs I even use this little program game booster The hard drive is not crammed to the top I even separated the drive to a few parts for games and for Windows So yea any tips Or am i doomed to play in this ridiculous situation where no matter what Constant lag no matter what, is there no way out? graphic settings you put on you still get lag PS When games are turned on the ventilator blows out quite hot air nbsp

A:Constant lag no matter what, is there no way out?

How big is the hard drive? How big are the partitions? When you partition a hard drive, you waste a lot of space and slow down its data access. Something you never want to do with a laptop

Hi My system already had an Nvidia GT Gcard installed and running for about years now Yesterday i got a BOOTMGR error and had to repait that file using the Windows Disc This involved using the onboard video chip of my motherboard Manufacturer BIOSTAR Group - Model GF -M TE Upon resolving the BOOTMGR issue i was unable to resuse my graphics card I have tried reinstalling drivers motherboard drivers resetting CMOS etc The trouble is when i try disabling the onboard chip through device manager it still will not switch to the issue (not solved card Graphics threads) by other any Gcard There is also only an Graphics card issue (not solved by any other threads) option in BIOS to set the onboard chip to ON or Auto ON I do not have the driver CD for the graphics card and gave been using the Nvidia site for them Also what appears to be odd is that the computer does not detect the Gcard at all and only the onboard chip even if i uninstall the drivers for it and disable it Any help would be great nbsp

A:Graphics card issue (not solved by any other threads)

I suggest a clean reinstall of the OS and drivers from scratch. Clean out your PC, re-seat all the components and continue with a fresh install of OS, drivers, etc.

If that doesn't work, then it's an issue with your card or the PCI-E slot on the motherboard.

I guess it depends matter? Does really size on who you ask Really though I do have a question about SSD and size It has been asked over and over but I have not seen any threads that really answer my question What size SSD would be the best option for Does size really matter? me I do your normal computer operation but do a lot of serious video work I have many programs Does size really matter? that I need to use for different things that I do Several different things for video large programs office programs that I have for home automation hundreds of gb of music hundreds of pictures tb of video Large programs for pictures I know I won t store any of the music pics or video on the SSD I have read many many many conflicting reports on what to do with your SSD My big question is will I get faster video rendering if the program is on the OS drive Where is the best place to put my programs On another drive or on the same partition as the OS I want what will be best for video work nbsp

A:Does size really matter?

Id use 124GB SSD to load my OS, Video Editing Programs and other main programs that you have on. Keep all the data such as music, pictures, videos on a normal HDD.

My big question is will I get faster video rendering if the program is on the OS drive?Click to expand...

You mean if the program is on the SSD with the OS? Id guess so since it will write the data faster, but I am not expert and on top of that I don't have a SSD. But also a GOOD CPU will play a good roll in that.

The memory type on the graphics card is independent of the memory type in RAM. It can be DDR3 even if you have DDR2 RAM.

I would just like to revisit one of the posts from yesteryear Entitled Raid Problems and Essential Data Recovery I had a major problem with my HD discs after my motherboard blew When I replaced my motherboard due to the bios not being configured Data Raid Essential Problems 0 solved Recovery and to know how my Raid drives operated I thought I d lost it all - and so did everyone on these forums and my friends BUT after a little use of common sense and hope I got it all back and I did it all by myself Here s the basics I got a cheap IDE HD disc drive I stuck it into my motherboard as the master drive with my Raid ones as they were in the raid slots didn t matter which way round I installed Windows on the IDE drive I bought some software like Runtime Raid Reconstructor I ran that software It detected the Raid drives even though windows couldn t I asked it to perform a configuration test It completed the test and opened my drives I used an external drive to remove Raid 0 Problems and Essential Data Recovery solved all stored data off the Raid drives I eventually removed the IDE drive and formatted the Raid drives ready for a standard configuration and Windows Install I put all my files back Raid 0 Problems and Essential Data Recovery solved on to the Raid drives from my external JOB DONE Now I ain t no tech head right BUT I understood that the concept of openning Raid drives in RAID requires two bits of information Block size Drive priority ie which is first second Any Raid reconstruction software will work out through trail and error what the configuration is of your drives so you can get your data off This isn t a tech heads version of what to do but I was stuck for months last year thinking I d lost it all I of course won the battle and punched the air a fair number of times Hope this helps any of you out there in the troblesome Raid land nbsp

Hi all I googled looking for solutions to problems recovering a Compaq Presario computer and found a link here so I thought I would post a possible solution I have stumbled across Make sure the system you are recovering has been restored to FACTORY SPECS That means removing anything that wasn t in it when it was new PC Name Recovery solved problems brand I just tried to restore a Name brand PC Recovery problems solved Compaq Presario SR AN with a new hard drive in it from a new set of HP supplied recovery disks I got one error after another with problems copying files to the Name brand PC Recovery problems solved hard drive I got as Name brand PC Recovery problems solved far as a reported of the installation before I was forced to stop It reported problems copying Driver CAB and Base INP I managed to get Driver Cab installed by putting in a recovery disk from a different set but no way could I get Base INP to work After suggestions from HP that the Motherboard wasn t plugged in WTF I tried dismantling the machine and reseating the CPU that I had previously removed in cleaning and reseating the undisturbed DVD IDE cable and the HDD IDE cable I also removed the extra MB of RAM that the customer had installed to take the system from the factory supplied up to I then re-ran the recovery process with absolutely no problems I believe there was no problem with the seating of the cables or CPU I believe the main problem with the system was that the recovery process baulked when it discovered more RAM than HP had installed and would not continue I know next time I have to recover an HP Compaq or other brand OEM system I will be ensuring that the system is COMPLETELY back to FACTORY SPEC nbsp

I take it that the extra 256Meg of Ram did not originally come from HP
I'm not sure if that's relevant or not, but even same rating Ram (but different manufacture) has been known to cause issues (ie best to use exactly the same Ram cards always)

I was discussing a similar matter earlier on here: Windows will not boot with more than 2gb of ram (although the emphasis in that thread was the 2Gig max, before installing Windows, and strangeness of having increased ram in a system)

Either way, thanks for your post, it was interesting to note this issue (and likely cause)
Many times during a Setup fault, I have advised members to remove extra Ram cards and try again. It may be that the originally recorded Ram (under re-imaging) may be the answer (on some computers that may have Setup problems) Sadly you would need to test this issue on 10 similar, same spec, computers to really confirm. Or contact HP technical support, or possibly their tech forum, to ask of others experiences.

Of late I found my desktop PC crashing now and then. The situation was getting worse by the day and it was becoming frustrating to use the PC.

I opened the box and got my fingers dirty, so before I looked further I decided to blow out all the dust with a vacuum cleaner. Loads of dust billowed out. I would recommend holding the CPU fan blades so that it does not spin uncontrollably.

After the dust clean up, the PC is working great and no unwanted crashes. I guess the dust was preventing the cooling of the CPU.

I don't think it would matter too much... as long as you stay close to the video card specs

Hi there,
Can anyone help me? I'm quite desperate here.
I'm having problem with my keyboard/USB.
When I press any key on the keyboard, that instant all USB devices are disconnected. And soon after I unpress it, the system will detect all USB devices like they were just plugged in. I say all USB devices, cause it doesn't matter USB mouse or USB drive, they all get disconnected.
It's frustrating me cause I can't use a USB mouse.
Please help

I'm using a Lenovo 3000 N100 0689GRA.

A:Solved: Pressing key disconnects USB Lenovo 3000 N100 0689GRA

How many USB ports does that have? and what are connecting them. If you could also please look in your event viewer (Start>control panel>administrative tools>eventviewer, and check the "SYSTEM" area. double click any item in that list for a detailed description. You should see some errors.

So i bought my new 2 sea gate drives, and as before like i said the previous hds was randomly getting dced etc,now when i bought the new drives worked great then started to do the same thing as the previous drives, not being picked up in bios etc, then i decided to change the plug in my ultra x3 800 watt psu to a molex to sata connection, that worked picking up the hds no problem,

so does it sound like a wire issue or the psu giving the issue?cause as soon as i switched it to the molex to sata instead of the other sata connect in the utra x3 which uses different wires and different ports it worked.

a waste of 184 but i got better hds and i can just sell the 2 500 gig wd drives i got

A:SATA problem solved but a bit concerned

Ok yes it does seem like a faulty Power Supply

Also you should have just replied to your original thread:
Instead of making this new one.

But oh well !

Anyway, if the molex do not cause any issue, then you could continue with them
I wish you had tried that before. I didn't suggest it, because it is uncommon (very uncommon), especially with two !

Do Audio Video Cables Quality matter much?

for example with Coax i know the gold connectors worked better then silver connectors. So my question is do the cables red yellow and white connectors have high and low quality cables or they all the same. If they have high quality cables what are the names of them and where can i find them.

A:Do Audio Video Cables quality matter much?

Red,White audio RCA are much the same.
It's haveing and useing a SVHS video cable instead of Yellow RCA.
If your TV has it for VCR's etc.that have it out.
But it also depends where you are. This is a N American reply, not GB.

As you can see from my post just below this one my computer is fried. My roomate has a Intel computer and I was wondering if i can take the RAM from my AMD system and put it into his computer. Or if this will cause a conflict with hardware.

A:Does Intel or AMD matter when installing RAM

No there is really no such thing as Intel ram and AMD ram. It depends on if the two computers use the same memory type. A new computer uses DDR2 while an older computer would use DDR1 and an even older computer would use SDRAM. A good ram dimm would probably be interchangeable between a new Intel computer and a new AMD computer. A computer's motherboard must be able to accommodate the ram's type, speed and voltage specifications to be able to work in that motherboard.

it sounds like the card is getting too hot so it restarts the pc. turn the overclocking settings back to how they were and it should be ok if you really want to overclock then get an aftermarket cooler e.g. a zalman heatsink, if they still make ones that fit your card

i believe my mobo only accepts single channel memory, i tried to upgrade my system with dual channel, and it reboots constantly. please advice!!!!!

A:single or dual channel memory does it matter?

There is no such thing.....

The memory DIMMs are neither single or dual channel, it's the motherboard that determines how the RAM is accessed. Did you match exactly the specifications of the original RAM when you upgraded?
Please follow this link to Tedster's guide for upgrading RAM:

When RAM is sold as "dual channel" it simply means that there are two DIMMS (each with half the amount of the upgrade value), one for each channel of a dual channel motherboard.

(I hope you have access to a computer with a CD burner.)

I've found this tool very helpful at identifying bad memory. It's positively identified bad ram 100% of the time for me. Download this and follow the instructions to burn it to a blank CD-R. Then boot from the CD-R on your suspect computer. Run the Extended Diagnostics for at least one complete cycle. (Usually if it doesn't detect RAM pattern errors on the first cycle then the RAM is good and there isn't much need to run additional cycles.)

Post the results here.

I'm at my wits end - it didn't take long!

Fixing up an old Intel 845EPT2 for a neighbor. I did a Reinstall of XP, installed all Drivers straight off the Intel Website, and no matter what, there's no Audio.

"No Device Installed" even though the Soundmax appears in System / Devices.

I have double checked Audio is enabled in the BIOS.

I even threw in an old Soundblaster Live!, turned off Audio in the BIOS, installed Drivers and it did the same thing.

I'm running an SFC / SCANNOW .

The weird thing is that it had Audio before {along with a million viruses, which is why I re-installed}

Any ideas, except a litre of Petrol and a Lighter?

A:Can't get Audio no matter what

uninstall all your drivers in device manager, go to your C drive and program files, make sure all files related to the drivers, software is deleted, also, do a add remove any software that may use those same sound drivers that you previously uninstalled. turn off machine, take your card out, if you're using onboard, disable in bios, start up, let windows load, if its a sound card installed in a pci slot a "new hardware" window should pop up, install drivers through that dialog box. If its an onboard sound device just simple restart after windows has started up and recognized no sound devices or drivers installed, go back to bios, enable sound, start up, reinstall drivers and software....I hope this helps as I just had this problem last night and had to figure out how to fix it, GL

A:will this matter my new grafics card?

There is nothing wrong with a 3 Ghz processor nor with AGP. It would help tho if you posted some specs on your present system beyond that and described the specs for the new ram.

You can get a lot of that info from System Information and/or use Everest Home ( ).

Hi I have matter no loud CPU what Fan a custom computer I built and I m having real problems with how loud it had gotten Recently my friend gave me his old processor P GHz with HT and its running CPU Fan loud no matter what on my new mother board ASUS P CPU Fan loud no matter what NSLI and it has been running so loud that it keeps me up I have to open my window to let in degree air to slow the fan down There was one fan already in the case that was sucking air out on the panel side and i recently purchased another one to put in the back near the cpu to blow air in and it made about Zero difference and its putting a good amount of air in My heat sink is just a intel that came with the CPU The fan speeds run as follows at rpm when the CPU is C This is relatively quiet but still can easily tell that the computer is running but this is with the window open haha once i close the window the temp is still at C but it will run at rmp- rmp which is enough to wake me up note these temps are mostly unaffected by cpu usage when i run transcode for my converts an avi file into wmv as fast possible to play through media center If the window is open no sound and the cpu is under rather a heavy load but in the same respect if the window is closed and I m not even using my computer its like a highway in my room The Computer itself isn t in a confined area either it is out in the open in a place where air circulates easily So my though that was maybe i need to mess with the settings in BIOS since i have never really touched them in new computer Any suggestions on what to do whether it is through the BIOS or just how I placed the fans in the case thankyou nbsp

A:CPU Fan loud no matter what

You may be able to change the thresholds for temperature in the bios on whether it kicks the fan into high speed or not.

I'd also suggest taking that fan you put in the back of the case and reverse it so it blows air out, thats traditionally how its done, and makes more sense with the air dynamics inside a case. Fans on the side panels or the front typically blow air into the case, so I'd suggest doing that as well.

You can pull the heatsink off the processor (with the comp shut down of course) and clean it off with 99% Isopropyl alcohol and reapply some thermal paste. Artic Silver seems to be the consensus for doing that, but you can also get away with the thermal paste Radio Shack sells if you must.

A final thing you could do is get an aftermarket heatsink and fan that will run quieter and cool better.

hi, being a beginner to computers i think i have made a mistake.

i have just bought a new laptop which came with a sp2 recovery disk.
i used this disk to reformat my old hp pavillion computer instead of using its disk and now im having problems booting.

when first installed the computer was running great untill i rebooted.
all i get now is the blue hp screen for a second and then the screen goes blank. no error messages or anything.
i have tried to reboot using the original xp disk(sp1). it tells me its checking disk and then itall goes blank again. i have also tried to boot from fdisk but it tells me to replace disk and try again. (made disk off another comp running xp sp1.

can anyone please help me.

A:xp booting problem not solved

The system disk is made for the system it came with. Recovery disks work mainly on the computers that they're designed for. For instance, my parents' Sony has a system recovery tool that reinstalls Windows and installs all of the systems programs in a specific way that would not work in any other machine.

Hi all,

Please bear with me, as I'm very much a newbie. I'm looking at the following two GeForce 6600GT AGP video cards:

GIGABYTE GV-N66T128VP Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 VIVO AGP 4X/8X Video Card

eVGA 128-A8-N350 Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card

Is brand a considerable factor to consider? Is the difference in performance truly worth $45? (I actually found the Gigabyte card at for $10 less, but that's still a notable gap in price.) I noticed a Sapphire Radeon x800GT 256MB card on newegg for only a few dollars more, so is that perhaps the best course?

I would greatly appreciate any insight into the differences. Thank you very much for your time and patience.

A:Does brand difference matter with GeForce 6600GT cards?

the gigabyte u listed from newegg has passive cooling thats why its more expensive. I havent had any experience with Gigabyte. but i have with eVGA and i can say they r a good brand. give u the chance to upgrade ur card too while paying only the difference.

what u should look for are warranties and google aroudn to see how well the manufactures handle their customers. I believe eVGA now gives their video cards lifetime warranty and they have good tech supoprt and customer service according to experience.

however be warned, their video cards are pretty loud (especially the 6600GT)
If ur planning to up the stock cooling, then its no matter.

After re-installing my HP 4070, the scanning software showed only TIFF and
Compressed TIFF options while earlier I had JPG and BMP.

To get back BMP and JPG options, I deleted the Registry entry under HKEY_USER....
Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging\CUE Settings\0000_4070]
"ScanPreferencesSettings", and Run the HP Scanning software.
It will recreate the Key with default settings and the next time you start the
HP scanning software you will have all the four save options.

Backup registry before trying this! Modify the registry at your own risk!
You can highlight the Hewlett-Packard entry and export from file menu to a
desktop file for backup of just this entry. If something seems wrong, double
click on the exported file to restore the original settings in the registry.

I was reading in a Pc Gamer mag. and one of thier suggestions (for better gaming performance) was to turn the Grafic apature size to 1/2 your video card ram meaning, if you have lets say a 256mb card to set the apature size to 128mb in the bios? They didn't give a reason for this, can anyone tell me why I would want to do this? And would it make that big of diffrence? My first impression was that it had something to do with Virtual memory tapping, but i'm a *****...LOL can someone please enlighten me?? Oh I know there was alot of discussion on hyperthreading but would I be smart to turn it off as well when gaming?

Thx friends, Power

A:Apature size, does it matter that much?

Apperture size is the amount of system that you're willing to let the VGA card use for AGP texturing.

Now it's quite hard to fine a single answer on that matter. Some say it should half the size of your system memory, some say it should be equal to or half the VGA memory, some say Saturn needs to be aligned with Jupiter for it to work, etc.

If your VGA card has a lot of onboard Ram, you're not likely to be very affected by AGP apperture. Set it to something not too small, & it should not be more then half your system memory, so if you have 512 mb of Ram, set it to 256 max ( I believe the max setting for AGP apperture is 256 mb anyways ).

How much does buffer size matter for DVD burners? It appears that most of the burners on the market have 2MB buffers (e.g. Plextor), while some have 8MB (e.g. BenQ and Philips). Will the difference in buffer size matter during DVD burning, say, at 8x?

Having seen the required specs for half life 2, I've decided to upgrade my current ram and purchase an AMD 2500 processor - my current system is a s follows, AMD 1700, 512 DDR ram (generic), softmodded radeon 9500 128 np, W2000k and a 40 gig HD, not top notch kit but enough to play any current game at optimal configuration.
My question is this, my current 2100, 266mhz generic ddr ram works pretty much adequatly and has given me no cause for complaint but on checking prices, find that higher specc'd ram is'nt as expensive as I'd assumed - would purchasing 333mhz or 400mhz ram offer significant increase in performance or are these specs only relevant to hard core modders?

A:Does make matter?

333Mhz to 400Mhz, not much.

I recently had this error message pop up when I started some apps on my computer (including Teamviewer and Skype)

The procedure entry point NtAlpcSendWaitReceivePort could not be located in the dynamic link library ntdll.dll

I found a solution after some Googling. I thought I'd post what I found.

The problem may start after installing some Android related software on your PC (Samsung Kies or in, my case, I had installed the Android upgrade package for phone on my PC)

To fix the problem, I uninstalled the software and renamed C:\WINDOWS\system32\avrt.dll to avrt.dll.old. Life is good again

I have the AMD 64 processor in my computer. I also have Adobe's version 10 Shockwave plug-in. The processor doesn't seem to get along with the plug-in, and, especially after logging onto Facebook, Windows would not shut down. The plug-ins were the reason. Once I disabled them, shut down, and start up again; no problems...until the next time I use them.

Adobe hasn't resolved this issue with the AMD processor yet, but at least I can get my Windows to shut down by disabling the Shockwave plug-in through Mozilla Firefox.

A:Partly Solved: Windows won't shut down; AMD processor installed

Don't know about Shockwave, but there sure are a lot of programs that must be tweeked for 64 bit...
and Adobe has had so many problems lately with all those many upgrades to fix a problem here and a problem there.
Have you looked at the Adobe site ?

After a Windows 7 "Update", (not sure which or when), my on-screen keyboard popped an error when I tried to use it: "A referral was returned from the server." After looking online for too long, I found Microsoft saying "Try to see (by trial and error) which update is causing it." ?? Not an answer. I was hoping for "Oh, uninstall this update." Neither was System Restore a good option. Finally found what worked after seeing ALL (on-screen keyboard, magnifier, narrator) had the same error. Finally found what worked, was shutting off User Access Control. That worked for me since I'm not a newbie, but may not work for others that are.

Spent about 6 hours today trying to figure out why my zune software stopped working on start up. With constant errors I had to think back what I changed.

Changing some hardware can pose a drm issue with zune. In my case I turned hyperthreading off during some overclock testing and this fooled zune into thinking I had a different cpu.

Just wanted to log the issue here just in case anyone ever had a similar issue.

I'm planning installing Windows XP on a Mac running virtual box and was wondering if it makes a difference between 32 bit and 64 bit edition? If both can run fine I guess I'd go with 64 bit since it's faster.

A:In Virtual Box does it 32bit/64bit matter?

Whether or not you can run 64bit guests depends on whether you're CPU has the VT-x extension flag on the CPU.

If it doesn't, you will be unable to run 64bit guests, regardless of whether the host (e.g. OS X) is 64bit or not.

I would recommend you stick to 32 bit, you really don't need the extra performance, nor will you see it when running an OS virtually as a guest within a host OS.

Can anyone help?

A:Different Popups

Open Firefox> Tools> Options> Content> CHECK 'block pop-ups.'

Then Tools> Options> Main> System Defaults> CHECK 'always check at startup to see if Firefox is the default browser'> Check now.

Control Panel> Internet Options> Programs tab> UNCHECK 'Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser'> Apply> OK

If these settings are in place and you still get the pop-ups, you have a malware infection.

When I explore it, it has some padlock icon that opens in shitty internet explorer some POS pcangel thing.
I don't know how long this problem has been around, I haven't used the DVD drive in a while.
I got the hard drive from a friend, but it came clean, as they removed all their crap.
I never inserted any recovery CD, especially not anything with PCangel.

The problem hasn't persisted in linux in the past, though my Linux hard drive isn't currently in this computer.

The DVD drive has never had any problems, it is fairly new.

Seeing that this is your first post, I will say "welcome to TechSpot"!

Next, I know this has you a bit miffed, I've been down your road of computer frustration at one time or another, but your going to have to give us a little bit more information.

How about a small list of all your components?
What type of case your trying to install of this in?
What is your power supply, and what is it's rating?
What Operating System are you using here?

Maybe a slight "step by step" of what you did prior to uninstalling the I.D.E. DVD drive, through that, to installing the SATA DVD drive. If your suspicions are true, and you think that you missed something minor, doing a small 'step by step" thing sometimes takes care of these sort of thing.

So please get back to us, we are here to help!

Hello. For a few days I have had problems pointing towards some sort of virus. A few times per day I get these casinowebsite popups in google chrome. A friend messaged me saying I had a virus spamming him on skype, don't know what the virus wrote though. Also other wierd things have started happening like chrome trying to furiously refresh the website I'm currently on.

I've ran a couple of avast scans with little result. The first times avast couldn't acces 2 files located in my "Chromedownloads" folder. I proceded to delete that entire folder and now when I run avast it tells me no threats can be found. But, the casino popups have not stopped so the problems haven't dissapeared. Would appreciate any help you can give, thank you.

2. Uninstall KProcessHacker as it's likely conflicting with TrueCrypt.

About a month ago, I started getting regular BSODs. It seems like I tried every quick-fix that I know. I ran Microsoft security essentials and Malwarebytes. I ran windows update. Manually updated most of my drivers. Removed the video card. Finally, I replaced the RAM.

At this point, I tried looking at the dump files and quickly realized that I am past my abilities. I have attached the dmp files and I am wondering if someone could give me insight on what they mean.
Currently, I suspect my problem could be one of the following.
*bad driver that I failed to update
*virus that I didn't find
*hardware malfunction

One last thing, every time my computer has BSOD, I have been running google chrome. This could be a red-herring because I almost always have something open in chrome.

I freshly installed Windows XP x64 SP2 on my computer and I am working on getting a few things to work correctly. A couple issues I would like to address are the following:

Some things online don't load correctly. Some websites don't load at all. I think I need to update at least flash and java, but the download page for flash does not load. It acts as though I'm offline. I can download installers for java, but neither the online or offline installers will even run on my computer. Click them and it just sits there as if they were not clicked at all. Can someone give me a hint? Thanks.

Hello all,
I am working on an HP computer that was once used in a school setting.
My friend purchased this computer at a school auction and was hoping to install her old WindowsXP HDD into this machine. However, when the computer boots with her hard drive all seems to be working until I am presented with a screen which requires a series of nine boxes requiring six digits each (this number sequence is supplied by Microsoft).

Upon entering the digits, it instructs me to call Microsoft or attempt an online fix. Calling Microsoft only yields the response: ?I am sorry but we do not support WindowsXP anymore. We suggest you upgrade to Windows8?). This computer belongs to an 85 year old individual that is fairly confident with WindowsXP and will not be using this computer for online activity.

Just wondering if there was any solution to the hard drive transplant dilemma.

A:[SOLVED] Windows XP Hard Drive Transplant

The nine boxes are the product key for the version of XP that is installed. You will need the product key that is on a sticker on the computer the HDD came from to Activate it.
If you are typing in this product key from that computer and it is not activating, then you will need to reinstall Windows XP from a CD. You can get retail CD version of XP from Ebay. Or try Windows 7.

A new problem where I cannot log in to my computer. When I boot it asks for username and password. I never set it up like this. Anyways, I put Administrator for username and leave password blank because I never set one. It starts logging in, says logging in, then says logging out, and I'm back to it asking for login info.

I tried connecting to the registry remotely, but it cannot find my computer and I can't change any network settings or any other settings because I can't get it to fully load windows, but only to the login screen. Even safe mode acts the same. What can I do?

A:[SOLVED] Auto logout right away after boot and login

Do you have another user login?
If you have been using the Admin login as you main login, and that has become corrupted, then you cannot login to your computer. You should always use a different user profile to login in case it becomes corrupted.
You will need an XP Disc. Boot off of that and try a Repair Install.
This will not change any of your files or programs.

Hello everyone-I pray that you will be able to help me.

I uninstalled an AV from my wife's computer and now it is hopelessly unable to connect to the internet.

It sees the router but will not connect-instead endlessly trying to "Acquire network address."

I tried renewing the connection ipconfig, etc, etc. I am just lost.

I have spent days trying to fix this, downloading about 40 different programs and drivers from dell to no avail. I beg of you to help me end this madness.

Her computer is a dell Inspiron Mini 10 running XP SP3.

Please let me know any information you need to know to help.

Thank you so much.

Are PC is pretty old and today it shut off on my dad. I just turned it on and a black screen came up with a lot of text on it but couldn't really read it all. Just basic stuff I've seen before I guess.Managed to get to my desk top and was running ok for a few minuets plus didn't see anything else running in task manager so I don't think it's infected or anything. I think something's gone bad. What should I check out first? And if we just get a new pc what's a way I can get all my sketchup and pics? Am I going to just have to take it in? Would like to just fix it myself.

A:[SOLVED] Pc shutting off

A computer that shuts down on it's own is usually overheating. Or has a failing Power Supply Unit.
Shut down the computer and open the side up. Clean out all dust and blow out all fans with a can of compressed air. Start the computer and boot into Setup (Bios) go to PC Health and look at the temperatures. And check voltages.
You should always have a current backup of files you can't live without. Get yourself a USB HDD and drag and drop your personal files, sketchup and pics to the external HDD. Or burn them to DVD.

My Windows XP pro computer is logging me off, going into standby or locking EVEN though "Turn off hard disks", and "System Standby" are BOTH set to "Never"!!! it basically hides ALL my open windows, desktop icons, and the taskbar and the ONLY thing that is displayed is my wallaper, if I hit any key on my computer, it plays the "Windows logoff" sound and then returns to the lock screen where I must type my password again and then it plays the "Windows Logon" sound, NOT the "Start Windows" sound!!!.

the funny thing is that it DOESN'T play the Windows logoff sound UNTIL I hit a key on my computer, and it doesn't matter how long it has been sitting with just a wallpaper, same scenario EVERY TIME, same hit key and logoff sound SAME EVERYTHING!!! after re-logging-in, all my desktop icons and open windows are restored
