Install software on Windows Server 2003 so that everyone can use it ???

Q: Install software on Windows Server 2003 so that everyone can use it ???

Somebody please help me. A walkthrough would be great. This is my problem. I have a server at work, I am a computer engineer, however the problem is I have not had much experience with servers. My task is to install some software onto the server (Windows Server 2003) so that the software can then be accessed and run on each client computer (PC that is connected to the server)

Would anyone have any tips, or be able to walk me through doing this ?

Please help, and thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a 2 PCs that are randomly powering off. One more than the other. Both are giving the same symptoms but I have no clue how to figure out what is going on. I need help from a software to figure these out.

1) Event logs are clean no stop signs or exclamtion points prior to shutdown.
2) Just gives an indicator last shutdown was unexpected.
3) memtest runs through fine.
4) Shutdown is 100% random not any timed thing.
5) Happens when idle and at full use.
6) No blue screen at all.
7) No dump files.
8) Different power sources have been used/on top of the fact one is a laptop with a fine battery.

I am all out of troubleshooting ideas. Any thoughts on something that is a realtime system monitor that might catch WHY these systems are shutting down?

I'm working on a friends laptop that currently has the Windows Server 2003 -Enterprise Edition operating system installed. The specs for the are as follows:

IBM Thinkpad
Pentium 3 700 mhz Processor
13 GB Hard Drive
256 MB RAM

I want to remove Windows Server 2003 and perform a clean install of Windows XP. When i try installing XP it doesn't allow me to proceed and the continue install button comes out blank. Moreover, for some reason it does not allow me to boot from the disk eventhough i changed the settings on the BIOS. Can anyone provide me with the steps on how to override Windows Server 2003 so that i may install XP.

A:Removing windows server 2003 and install XP

Once you set your BIOS to boot first from cd . . when it restarts you will see a black screen with a prompt "Press any key to boot from CD" . . do that and you will be able to delete partitions and recreate the ones you want and proceed to formating and installing XP

That message can pass quickly, so have a finger on the keyboard when you boot. This will delete all data on the drive so be sure you have your important data backed up.

A:Install Windows 2003 Server over Vista

I may not be of much help since I am trying to do the same thing as you. I purchased an HP a64000z, slated to be a computer lab "mule". Came with Vista Basic. I knew better not to attempt to install over Vista directly.

Here are the issues to overcome:
First thing is to obtain the SATA drivers for the motherboard. This is needed for W2003S to be able to recognize the HDD. Vista has the driver, but it's no help when you install a new OS. I am looking for the drivers and will post back when I have some info.

Windows 2003S may have an issue installing SATA drivers if a floppy drive is not present (go figure!). So it might be prudent to install a loose floppy drive just in case before attempting anything.

The best solution might be to create an install CD containing the SATA drivers and update the .INF file to tell W2003S where to find them, but this is kinda involved and I'm trying to stay out of that one.

In any case, good luck and please let me know what you find out, I'll do the same.

How do you install 64 bit print drivers on a 32 bit 2003 server

Hi,

We're rolling out Windows 7 64 Bit. We currently run 32 bit 2003 Server. I have been able to install about half of the 7 64 bit drivers, but am running into issues with others. The universal drivers do not work. We are running HP, Xerox and Dell printers. The error I am seeing is. 'The specified driver must be installed remotely from a x64 running Windows XP or Windows server 2003.' I cannot get it to work. Any ideas?

I have a laptop running Vista ultimate. I want to create a dual boot with win2003 server so that I can install MOSS 2007 on it (studying for certification).

Tried using the disk management utility in Vista to create partition for this and it doesn't let me shrink a partition in order to create a new partition for Win 2003. There are 60gb available for this new partition but when I go to 'shrink' I get a zero for available mb

I know there are some issues regarding the loader. Any advice in how to do this successfully? I dont want to lose any data on the vista O/S part of the box.

Hi,

Not sure where to post this but seeing I'm using windows 10, Ill post it here.

I'm having a problem installing Windows Server 2003 on VirtualBox. It reports that there is no bootable medium found when I try to start it up.

Ive had experience in creating VM's before, I've currently got a whole virtual network going, and I need this server for my university project.

The iso file is correctly linked so I do not understand what the issue is.

If it helps, this is where I got the iso file from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...ils.aspx?id=41

Thanks

A:Oracle VirtualBox won't install Windows Server 2003

That is not a download for Server 2003 itself, just SP2 for Server 2003.

You can download a 180 day trial version of Server 2008 R2 here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/down....aspx?id=11093

That is 64 bit only.

Microsoft isn't going to provide a trial version for an OS that is beyond extended support.

Downloaded RC1 to install it on an IBM R40 (1GB RAM), which had previously held Windows Server 2003.

Select booting from optical drive through the Access IBM button and selecting the optical drive; DVD boot fails, and Server 2003 comes up again despite selecting boot from optical.

Erase the hard drive with EASUS, reformating to FAT32 (so I know it's wiped).

Booting again from the DVD with RC1 fails, with the code Sfh> onscreen.

How do I install RC1?

A:Solved: Difference b/w Windows Server 2003 and Small Business Server 2003

Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server has the following restrictions:
- Only one computer in a domain can be running Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server.
- Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server must be the root of the Active Directory® forest.
- Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server cannot trust any other domains.
- A Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server domain cannot have any child domains.
- Each additional server must have a Windows Small Business Server 2003 client access license (CAL). You can use CALs for each user or for each device.
The standard edition of Windows Small Business Server 2003 includes Windows Server 2003 technologies, including fax service, firewall service, and remote-access service. Additionally, it includes Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, enhanced tools for server monitoring and administration, and an out-of-the-box solution for internal Web sites. The standard edition is ideal for customers who do not require the higher-level functionality included in the premium edition

The premium edition includes everything in the standard edition, plus Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000, and Microsoft FrontPage® 2003. The premium edition is ideal for small businesses with more demanding IT needs, such as data-intensive line-of-business applications, or advanced firewall and Web-caching capabilities

The standard edition has most of the stuffs inside.

I have a Dell 8300 with 1.2G Ram and 30G HD. I want to change the OS from Windows XP Home to Windows Server 2003. I have started the installation and the screen is on the one showing the existing partition and unpartitoned space on the computer:

29322 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]

-: Partition1 [FAT] 31 MB < 24 MB free >
C: Partition2 [NTFS] 29298 MB < 24985 MB free >

Should I delete both partitions? I want the hard drive as clean as possible. I plan to try many of the services such as IIS. I will install SQL Server 2000, Visual Studio 2003 .NET. I probably will buy another hard drive (80G or more) as a second drive later on. For now, how should I partition the 30G HD?

I have a problem.

I run a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine that amongst other things, acts as a media store/server. I recently got a Windows Phone 7 handset that can only synchronise content via Zune (ridiculous, I know), but Zune refuses to install on Server 2008 R2, saying it can only be installed on XP and Windows 7.

I have installed most of the Win 7 components missing from Server 2008 R2 so I'm not worried about compatibility, I just want to know, how can I force install an application to an OS that it is not 'allowed' to be installed on.

If I can't get Zune onto the Server, I'm effectively barred from transfering music and video to my phone. Please help.

A:Software Raid5 in Server 2003

If the OS is not part of the array and you have installed applications on the array you will have to restore those applications as well. I am not even sure you can make the OS part of an RAID 5 array. Your best bet would be to restore the OS volume from a full backup...the OS won't know the difference since the array looks like one big drive to it.

I was just thinking doing downloading AVG free, Adaware SE, Spybot, and Spyblaster for protection for my clients. Why don't I store these install files this time? Then I thought why not just get WMI files of them if possible. Then I realized I'm a total noob to pushing out things and should probably ask how is the preferred method before doing it. Now I know that MS Server 2003 can push out things but I am unclear about 2 things.

1. Where should you store those WMI files you want to push out to select later?

2. If I can't get a WMI file is there a converter or should I get a third party product that can push out?

Anyone that can help would be great, right now I'm just storing the .exe files in a folder on the server. I know in theory you can do it, I just haven't done it yet with anything.

I will start by saying what I have been using for desktop computers. I like the way Ghost 15 works. It lets me set the days of the week or month to back up and allows me to specify how many backups it saves and deletes the oldest backup image as it makes a new one.

If Ghost 15 would work on Windows 2003 Server, I would be well pleased.

What is there that is similar that will work on Windows 2003 Server?

And that doesn't cost a fortune?

A:Can't get Server 2003 to install

You have to burn the ISO file as an Image, just copying the file onto a CD won't work.

The easiest way I know to do this is to download the free ISO Recorder utility from here :-
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

Get the correct one for your OS (XP SP2 etc.) and install it then use it as shown in the tutorial :-
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/HowTo.htm

The CD should boot now provided you have the CD before the hard drive in the Bios boot order.

Here s the situation Every week I ghost copies of our servers Two Windows servers and two Windows servers Each server has one Western Digital GB ide hard drive in a hard drive rack and there is one open rack for inserting the backup hard drives I use ghost on floppies each is configured to run the ghost backup automatically When I am ready to ghost I insert the backup drive insert the floppy disk and start the server Ghost loads backups the drive and says ghosting is complete I and Server problem Windows Ghost Norton 2003 (long) 2003 take the main drive out and replace it with the ghosted copy The ghost copies for and boot up fine no Windows 2003 Server and Norton Ghost 2003 problem (long) problems FINALLY TO THE PROBLEM When I remove the Ghost copies and reinsert the main drives the Windows 2003 Server and Norton Ghost 2003 problem (long) servers will not boot but the servers do This doesn t happen every week and sometimes one server will work and the other won t When they don t work the servers post but for some reason don t see the hard drive this is not the ghost copy On one of the servers I have figured out the problem When the server won t read the hard drive I would pull out the drive and reinsert it fixing the problem Recenctly the other server wouldn t boot the main drive after it was ghosted I thought maybe the hard drive bay was bad so I switched the hard drive out with a spare bay Reinserted it in the rack and the server still couldn t find the hard drive during boot If I stick the ghost copy back in it boots up without a hitch Is it possible for ghost to destroy a hard drive like that nbsp

Greetings! This may be really dumb and I feel foolish asking for help with this problem. I'm installing a printer on a Windows 2003 enterprise server. Using ADD PRINTER I get to the HAVE DISK point. I have a disk with the driver on it and the root directory contains the file AUTORUN.INF. When I use it windows ignores it. I can't figure out a workaround for this and have no idea why windows can't see the new driver. Any help is much appreciated.

A:can't install new printer on Server 2003

autorun.inf files do not contain any driver information. You either have to look for the proper .inf file somewhere deeper or run the setup program from the driver disk.

Also, it is always a good idea to download the latest driver from the internet instead of using the hopelessly dated drivers provided on CDs.

What i mean is can I just start my computer from the XP install CD w/o having formatted my harddrive which currently contains server 2003 and expect XP to install over server 2003? Or can I format my harddrive if i only have one? -thanks.

A:Can i install XP over server 2003 without having to reformat first?

Welcome to TSG....

It is not the best thing to do actually it is recommended to backup all of the important data to another media and then do a clean install with a format you will have a much better running computer that way.

Currently we are on an NT network with a few 2000 servers tossed in. Today I learned that the plan is to migrate everything to Linux. Lets assume that this only applies to the servers and that the users will still operate with 98/nt/2000/xp. What are your thoughts on this?

I put this in this forum for a reason. Because I'd rather get the advice from 2000 and 2003 experts who know what Linux cannot replace than to hear the Linux fanboys and anti-Microsoft activists praise it to the high heavens.

What would your concerns be if this was done on your network? What problems have you encountered if you'd tried this? Or what successes? Know of any businesses that have done this successfully?

Now I just built it with a 40 gig and a 20 gig hd, both detected, and I checked for build problems... and the machine is sound. Now when I went to put Server 2003 on my machine, I got to the "Press enter to install" part, began installation, and after a little while I came to a blue screen with stop: 0x0000008E(0xC0000006, 0x8111701E, 0x00000000). Hello I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this particular question but it's technically an installation problem If it's in the wrong XP Cannot SP3. a running SP2 2003 install on PC virtual Server forum Cannot install Server 2003 SP2 on a virtual PC running XP SP3. I apologize I've just recently started a Computer Information Technology program Cannot install Server 2003 SP2 on a virtual PC running XP SP3. at a university and I'm in my first class which is an intro class which is online as a summer class My teacher does not have a text book for us and he says it's a amp quot research class amp quot where we have to figure out everything on our own All in all he's not offered me anything at all that would help me figure out how to install Server on a virtual PC and I'm not the only student having problems with trying to do this with zero instructions for what it's worth I'm in another class in the program which is nothing like this complete lack of instruction I ultimately have to make a video showing that I have the programs loaded Virtual PC-done MySQL-done Server -problems all week long running and then explain them but I just can't get Server to work at all on my Windows machine I think I could probably get Server to work but the university only uses hence my problem Basically I downloaded the Virtual PC and Windows XP bundle off of Microsoft's site and installed those I have created a virtual PC and it's running XP SP Now if I try to install Server on the virtual PC it gives me various errors according to which installer I try to use WindowsServer WindowsXP-KB -SP -x -ENU amd update update exe is not a valid Win application WindowsServer -KB -SP -x -ENU Service Pack Setup Error - The version of Windows you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install If I use the X version for SP it gives the same error as the X SP error I'd expect the SP X to work but not the others however none of them work I'm running a computer with Windows Ultimate -bit and the only thing I can think of at this point is that the Server programs only go up to SP and the virtual PC is on SP and that might be preventing the installation If I try to install Server outside the virtual PC on Windows it gives the error message of amp quot not enough storage space is available to process this command amp quot and according to the instructor's assignment file I'm supposed to install this inside the virtual PC anyway Also if the XP SP is really the problem I'm not sure how to go about putting SP on there because you can't downgrade it due to the way Microsoft gave it to me I've tried already Anyway I've been working on trying to get this to even load all week and have had no luck I don't really understand why it's not working at this point if it's not the conflict between Server SP and XP SP For what it's worth I already have MySQL community version installed on the virtual PC if that helps any Thanks for any help you can give me with getting the thing to work

A:Cannot install Server 2003 SP2 on a virtual PC running XP SP3.

You need to install Server 2003 in its own VM, not in a VM that already has XP in it. There are many ways to install an OS into Virtual PC - I suggest googling for instructions. We can't exactly tell you how, since it's a research project you have to complete.

Think of it this way - if you have a brand new computer with a brand new hard drive, would you install Windows 7 on it and then try to install Server 2003 inside of Windows 7? No, you would install Server 2003 on the brand new hard drive.

A:Non Admin not able to connect OPC server in Windows Server 2003

From what I've read on this thread, you'll need to set computer-wide DCOM security permissions. You'll want to peruse that thread.

On another note, this isn't really the best spot for this question. An error message isn't a crash, hang or bsod, and the situation is more relevant to specifically the Windows Server section (even though OPC servers can and often do exist in many client versions of Windows). You'll be able to receive more help there, as it's pertinent to your needs.

We had:

1) 1 Windows Server 2003 running Active Directory services to manage logon and permissions for file sharing.
2) 15 workstations.

We now want to have:

1) 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 server running Active Directory services to manage logon and permissions for file sharing.
2) 15 same workstations, with their same user profiles.

So I joined the 2008 R2 server to the domain, and then used the dcpromo tool to make it a domain controller.

Problem is, whenever I take the old server offline, (the 2003 one) everything flips out, logons are slow, and the 2008 server gives people trying to access shared files weird errors like that the server that authenticated them cannot be contacted, and asks them to log in again with their username and password before accessing shared files on the server.

What did I do wrong? I must be forgetting something.

We have a Windows 7 Pro laptop that can't see any of the 300 or so Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Machines.

It can, however, see all (around 13) Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 Machines that are on the network. Using \\ServerName\Share doesn't connect, and they don't show up on the network map.

It can ping the servers though. They ping by hostname and by ip address. Other Windows 7 Pro Laptops don't have this same problem!

Additional Info:
They are all joined to the domain; servers, laptaps, etc.

A:DCOM service on Windows Server 2003 - "Server execution failed" when connecting

I found the answer.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroup...-DC48AB0DA5C9&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us

The above discussion says that a service must enter a running state before a COM server calls CoRergisterClassObject. So I guess its a development problem.

Not sure why it only manifests on Windows Server 2003 though.

Information for how to configure a Windows2003 VPN server can be found at:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/networking/w3k_vpn_server.htm

You don't need to make any changes or additions to shares in regards to VPN client's being able to access previous shares on the server. Whatever you have assigned for the LAN access can work for VPN.

First of all, you should really keep your software in a safe place. You're playing with fire. Secondly, is there an I36 folder anywhere on the machine??

I have a new server at work so brought the 3 yr old server home
has twin xeon 2.8 CPU

I thought it a waste of computer to throw away and so figured on wipe the system and install win 7 to push movies around the home

I just want it to sit in the basement and attach to my readynas pro which has 6 TB of movies

I know little; the windows server 2003 program seems very fast but I am not a tech and have two other i7 game machines with win 7 in the study

I thought win 7 made sense as it is what I am used to

would people agree? or should I leave the server program and try to configure to push movies ? how I do that?

thanks Gaz

I don't usually prefer "real" servers at home. They are often too noisy and consume tons of power.

How do I setup a user so that he is a local administrator on his PC, but just a regular user on the server?

Such as, he can install software and do things that a regular user can't do, but only on his local machine. And say he couldn't walk up to the server and log in with his account and do anything to it.

Hello all,

I have a server that's in a datacenter. I can RDP to the server without any problems ok. I would like to know if there's anyway that I can log in remotely and connect to my server as if I'm physically at the server loging into the console. Basically I would like to leave a couple programs running on my server as if I'm logged in at the console so it won't affect or take away from RDP connections.

As you all know Windows server allows to connections simultaneous via RDP without having to buy or run a Terminal Services License server. I know this can be done but I don't know how. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks in Advance.

Hi,

I'm deciding about buying a dedicated server for webhosting.
One quick question, when is better to use windows server 2003 and when is better to use Linux?
In particular, I was told that in windows server 2003 I can use ASP and PHP without problems, but not in Linux.... is it true?
Can I have a technical explanation for this?

thanks

A:server windows 2003 ?

ASP is a Microsoft website language, and so I'd assume you need Microsoft's IIS webserver to use it (or that IIS would provide the best support for it). PHP should work on a Linux server without any trouble.

I have been asked buy my work to setup a webserver.

I am using windows server 2003.

I have added an application server for IIS but thats where my knowledge of server setup stops.

Just on the setup.
There is a switch with a static IP address.
Attached to the switch is 2 computers,
1 IP phone
1 Grandstream vopi gateway.

I am not really sure what i need to do to make the server a real server from an internal point of view and external...ie internet surfable point of view?

can anyone advise?

A:Windows server 2003

These are from my notes when I've done this. I am showing a basic setup. You can do much more than this, but it would require a complete tutorial to identify everything.

* Assumed:
- Windows 2003 Server is installed, and has a static intranet IP@
- Your internet router is set to route port 80 to this box
- You have addressed any firewall issues along the way
- Your home page is named "Default.htm"
- You are not using virtual directories
- You want static page delivery (no applications / scripts / etc)

* Application Server Role Setup
- Start "Configure Your Server Wizard"
- Select "Application Server" and press "Next"
- Application Server Option screen
+ select "FrontPage Server Extensions"
+ select "Enable ASP.NET"
+ press "Next", then "Finish"

* Create web site
- rt-click on "Web Sites" / new / Web Site
- Web Site Description screen
+ Description --> <fill in>
- IP Address & Port screen
+ Enter IP Address --> "All Unassigned"
+ TCP port --> 80
+ Host header --> <leave blank>
- Web Site Home Directory screen
+ Path --> <folder holding your pages>
+ "Allow anonymous access" --> <allow>
- Web Site Access Permissions screen
+ "Read" --> select
+ "Run scripts" --> de-select
+ "Execute" --> de-select
+ "Write" --> de-select
+ "Browse" --> de-select
- rt-click on web site / Permissions
+ add "Everyone" for "Read & Exec" & "List Folder Contents" & "Read"

* Set security permissions on the www folders
- Everyone --> read
- {owner} --> full

* Create your home page in specified folder, with name "default.htm"

I hope this helps.

I think your looking for group policies - From any client that is logged on with a User ID that has domain admin rights open up mmc (start/run/mmc/enter). Then in the MMC editor go to File/Add-Remove Snap-in/Add button/Group Policy Object editor/ Then you can do local computer or browse for Default domain policy.

This deals with all the GPO's for the domain.

A:windows server 2003

Basically when you setup your server, you'll be pointing all of them to your domain which you can setup certain restrictions and controls for the entire domain. You'll also be able to restrict access to specific users and/or groups (Windows XP Pro also has this function, just you have to do the following: Open "My Computer", go to Tools -> Folder Options. Select the "View" tab and scroll to the bottom. Then, uncheck the "Simple File Sharing" at the very bottom). For more information on "CAL", click here.. You'll be able to leave the clients running XP Pro. In response to your licensing question, it depends on the software as many will require you to purchase "server" or "multi-user" licenses if you're running a server on the system. So, you'll need to read the licensing agreement for the particular software to see for sure. In response to contact information, etc...you'll be able to use Microsoft Outlook Exchange server (email) for setting up scheduling and contact lists. You will not need a new copy of Office as your current version should work nicely with Exchange. (There's a setting for "Microsoft Exchange Server" along with your pop3, etc choices.) What exactly do you mean by access to programs? Hosted on the server? You should just set up the programs on certain computers under the users login. If you really don't want a user to access a specific program, you can login to that client machine under administrator, select your "Security" tab, and remove their access to the specific directory (that the program is located in).

DO anyone know how to grant a user full Adminitrative rights to IIS Manager only. This server is part of a domain. Again I need to grant a user full control of IIS manager so they can see the website we are hosting. They really don't need to full admin rights but I to give this user enough access to view the settings for a website we are hosting on this server.

Server 2000 and 2003 can exist in the same environment and work with each other fine.

Hello:

I have a question about licensing for Windows Server 2003.
This is what I have:

Total Servers: 15

Main Office:
12 Servers
- PDC & BDC
- Print Server
- Admin Server
- 3 Webservers
- Mail Server
- 2 Firewalls
- App Server
- Remote Server

Remote Office
3 Servers
- PDC
- Firewall
- File Server

How do you know how many licenses do i need to have.
I have about 225 users & computers

Any advice would help!?
Thanks!

IMHO this is a question best answered by a Microsoft professional. What it really comes down to is which of those 225 clients accesses which server and the licensing method your organization uses (are you using per seat, user, or CPU licensing?).

Navigating Microsoft's licensing maze is problematic at best. Call the local MS office and make someone earn their weekly paycheck.

Hello We have recently upgraded our workstations to Windows Enterprise x and our server is still running There are a multitude of issues that we are having and are having quite a difficult time getting them fixed Here is the list Extremely slow logging in This doesn't mean a minute or two this 2003 7 Server Issues + Windows means hour for some users a Also extremely slow logging out When you go to start gt documents instead of opening quot my documents quot Windows 7 + Server 2003 Issues it opens the shared drive All users are sharing a common desktop profile To explain - we have roaming profiles turned on Imagine users using the same profile If user deletes a file from the desktop it effects users - 's desktop as well a This profile was created on the shared drive in our quot public quot folder We cannot find where all of our users seem to be pulling that specific set of folders to use as their profile Where the roaming profiles are normally created - there are lt user name gt v folders for all of the users who've logged into a W machine since they've been installed The profiles are being created but not being used - evident based on the fact that it is loading the quot shared drive profile quot as every user's profile Any assistance with these strange issues is GREATLY appreciated Thank you

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Having roaming profiles configured can be really daunting, you'll experience sluggishness in your network.
You might have a peek of how Folder Redirection is setup. Setup a small lab and see if this works for you.

Another thing that's need to be configured correctly is the Server Roles, it's important that the DHCP and DNS'es are handled by your Windows Server 2003.

The Specs of your Server's hardware is also important, make sure that it's RAID configured with a good amount of RAM. Network hardware such as Gig switches/NICS also play a big role on the transfer rates.

Do you have a Network Attached Storage as a file server, rather than using your Windows Server as a file Server? Just another thought.

Hope this helps.
