Peripherals not powering up on new build PC

Q: Peripherals not powering up on new build PC

I have recently built a new PC and am having some issues, I am getting power to all of my components but no power to any of my peripherals (keyboard, mouse & monitor) my monitor is in power saving mode.

I have done the following steps to try and resolve the problem:

- Upgrade from a 500w to 750w PSU
- Replace CPU as there was a slightly bent pin.
- Replace motherboard.
- Reset the CMOS.
- Clean the RAM sticks and put back in
- Boot with 1 RAM stick.
- Tried using DVI, VGA & HDMI cables to connect to monitor.

Also, please note my motherboard does not have a VGA or DVI port so I am unable to test if it is the graphics card.

None of these steps worked, does anyone have any idea what may be causing this issue?

Your help would be much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just completed building a new build PC , with a new case and a used board , board is a GIGABYTE : GA-EQ45M-S2 rev 2.0 , 600W PSU , CPU , Intel Core 2 Quad 8200 , incl HDD , DVD RW .

I have double checked the "F" Panel conections ( lots of times ) changed the CPU from original Board , cleared the bios , put a new bios battery in , but still no luck , the led light on the board comes on but when I press the start button nothing happens , checked the switch on the front panel it is ok .
there is a chassis intrusion terminal on the board , there was no jumper on it . so I put a jumper on , again no power up .

Not sure what else I can check , does the power button connect a positive or negative feed back to the board ! .

If any one can give me anything to test , that would be great .

The pw switch leads do not matter which way they go on. Same for the reset switch leads. The pw led and hd led leads do matter however if you get one on wrong, no problem. Just switch them around.
Next have you read the guide at the top of the page for problem builds? If not, do so. If you follow ALL steps of the guide, you will find the cause of your problem.

A very common problem with inexperienced builders is to forget the 4/8pin aux pw connector.

The 400w power supply has a 20 to 22 pin adapter, would this be causing my power problem?

A:Solved: Fresh build - Keeps powering off and other issues

The powering off sounds like a heat issue. Check for full contact between processor and heatsink. Also be sure you have used some kind of heatsink grease. It is easy sometimes to have a heatsink cocked up sideways just a few thousandths of an inch and cause overheating.

I have a Dell XPS 410 that randomly powers off and then won't power back on unless I jiggle it a bit.

I found this:

Which indicates it can be the front I/O panel causing it.

How can I confirm this is the problem, and where can I get a spare?

When it isn't powering on, the mobo isn't receiving power either.

tried everything i could think of to solve this, after 3-4 days of no avail i even went as far as to hit it.

so - this seems to happen all the time, but most commonly when playing a game of some sort, both my keyboard and mouse will cut out for about 1 second, every 5-10 seconds but not at the same time. the keyboard and mouse are a corsair raptor K30 and a corsair raptor M3, i've installed, re-installed, re-installed again the drivers, all to no avail. it doesnt happen ALL the time. it can do 2-3 days without breaking out, then start again. let me know if anyone has any ideas as what could cause it

i have windows 7 64 bit OS.

whats the exact model of the HP Printer?

the onetouch9000 usb scanner does not appear to have a windows 7 driver , so may not work, and if thewindows 7 version is 64bit - would need a 64bit driver

I don't really want to write an essay, but...

I suggest going for the I5-3570k rather than the I7. Same number of cores, but without hyperthreading. (The value of hyperthreading for gaming may be limited.) That'll save roughly $100.

For the graphics card, what's your budget? At the moment, I believe that the best $200 graphics card is based on the Radeon HD 7850 chipset. (I prefer nVidia's drivers, but I have used both makers cards.) You may not get a good gaming graphics card for much less than that.

You probably want a board with a Z77 chipset. Serviceable ones are available for less than $100. Asrock may be the most respected name for relatively low-cost boards.

To be specific im looking for a new keyboard, mouse and headset. anyone have any suggestions on whats good. price range is probably 100 or less usd for each. also i think going with a headset that has a usb connection would best suit me since my audio card isnt very good. another thing is that wireless a mouse and keyboard would be nice, although i know that you might sacrifice some performance. what do you guys think about the new wireless setups?

I had my computer on this morning but shut it off to go to work It s an hp pavilion p - Turned it on after work and the unit powers on all lights I get a single short beep like I always have and I can hear the hard drives spinning up No power except on peripherals. Everything powers to mouse no power to keyboard both are connected Everything powers on except peripherals. via USB and no signal to the monitor Everything powers on except peripherals. After much reading I ve removed all the ram and tested for POST I got several long beeps so I believe that s good I then tried a single stick of ram in each of slots I repeated the whole process with the other stick of ram also by itself I believe ram is confirmed good Next I tried to reset the cmos I removed the jumper from the two pins the middle pin is shared so originally it was Then I moved it to be and powered it on shut it off moved the jumper back to and no fix I took the battery out for minutes and put it back still no fix If the battery is somehow dead would that cause this So next I tried removing the processor Removed the fan and heat sink removed and replaced the processor Put fan and sink back No fix I then unplugged and reseated every connection to the mother board No fix Kind of out of avenues at this point what should I do next Really don t want to go out and buy a whole new computer Edit I feel like this important but I forgot to mention that this has been happening a few times a week the past month or two with the computer powering on but no response from mouse keyboard monitor However before I just had to power it off by holding the power button and then powering back on to fix it That worked every time until now nbsp

A:Everything powers on except peripherals.

Last time I had this issue it was due to a 4 pin connector from my power supply not connected to the motherboard. I would recommend trying another power supply before anything else if everything is definitely connected.

You don't have to click "eject." just unplugging does the same thing. The reason it still has power is because it is plugged in to the hub and possibly reconnected.

My standard response to any USB to uninstall the USB controllers in Device Manager (only the items with "controller" in the description) and then reboot the system.  This should provide new USB controllers, which may be necessary because of corruption.

Just got a new computer, installed vista, anti-virus, ran updates then isntalled other software. So far so good.

I has most of my data transferred to my external hard-drive (Western Digital My Book Essential, 250 gb) prior to switching computers. Vista had no probklem with recognising the drive and accessing the data.

Today, came back from work and it cannot recognise the drive. It sees the USB connection as an "unknown device".

I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the drive, no result.
Thought it might have been one of the updates installed today, uninstalled and rebooted, no results.

It also no longers sees my DVD reader and tries to see a non-existing floppy (other wise I would have tried to run a repair from the vista disk).

Any suggestions?

A client brought his friend's computer, just the tower, for me to fix. I hooked up a monitor, keyboard and mouse and booted up. It said I needed to activate the OS. Could this be because I am using different peripherals than the original configuration? I know that they award a point system for changes.

So my question is this: If indeed this is the problem, how can people take their computers in for repair without having to haul the whole thing in?

I usually do on-site support and this is the first time I've had to deal with the annoyance of MS's activation policy.

Peripherals such as printers, keyboards, monitors etc, do NOT count towards those hardware changes that are you talking about. In fact, no peripheral device (except a docking station) counts towards the hardware changes.

Here is the list of hardware devices that MS applies towards re-activation.

The PC runs fine when performing light operations such as browsing the internet, creating docs etc. but while performing processor intense operations such as recoding videos, defragmenting drives the processor and keyboard/mouse/monitor goes down, the LED's glowing so the PC's still powered on.

I hope this isn't a prob with the processor/motherboard. I would appreciate if someone can gimme pointers to potential places with problems.

Help! I am an avid Mac user, but have a couple of older windows PCs . I also have experience repairing computers. The computer I need help with is a HP Pavilion m9000. It used to have Windows Vista but I put Ubuntu 14.04 on it. It has worked since I bought it in 2009, but a couple of weeks ago, I tried to turn it on, and the tower booted, but no externals worked (I use a wireless mouse, plug-in keyboard, and HDMI/VGA monitor). I have opened the tower and cleaned inside, as well as looked for loose wires and other problems, but it still does not work. If I could get the keyboard and monitor to work long enough to boot to USB, I might be okay, but the keyboard does not do any input and the monitor does not receive a signal.

What can I do to fix my computer?

A:Computer Peripherals Don't Work

nothing works in the back of the computer ???
how long ago did U install Ubuntu ????
I would say to try to print something but U can't get it to show anything on your monitor------
I would say its either something to do with Ubuntu drivers
or somewhere where the I/O ports block is soldered to the motherboard is cracked / broke----
and if the solder is cracked / broke then that would be a repair shop fix----
U could look on the motherboard to see if any of the capacitors are leaking or swelled
look burnt-----anything on the motherboard around where the I/O port block is looks wrong--

I'll leave it to the Linux guys here on the site to check Ubuntu with U-----

After loading Razer Keyboard/Mouse Drivers and or loading LogiTech Mouse drivers, everything works great till I reboot. The only work around we were able to come up with was to go into the particular software shortcut, either Razer or Logitech Right Click>Properties>Compatibility>Run this program as administrator. Reboot. Open the software by Right Clicking>Run as administrator. This process has to be done "each" time the computer is rebooted "and" the kicker, its often times intermittent.

The Microsoft Tech said its a Peripheral Compatibility issue, Logitech and Razer say its a Win7 issue, so the classic conundrum. After working with each of these, the long story short is the only way the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Keyboard/Razer Tiapan or the LogiTech G700 will work is by the following the method mentioned above.

In the last couple of days, my USB ports have not been working. Specifically, I can't get my computer to recognize my Logitech WebCam when I plug it in (even after it installs the drivers), and on my headset w/mic (using with Skype), only the microphone works while I now hear people talking to me through the speakers and not the headset.

The only thing that I can think of that's changed on my computer since this started is that the computer crashed and recommended that I start in some sort of SafeMode, and then do a system restore, which I did. I can't imagine what setting would have been changed in that process though.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

A:USB Ports not working properly with peripherals

Hi J

Did you determine what caused your PC to crash? I'd be more concerned about that then a few settings for Skype (which should fix your speakers/headphone issues).

Check in your EventViewer logs for clues on your system's recent distress. You'll need to be logged on with administrative rights. Type Event Viewer in the Start Search box on the Vista Start Menu, and press Enter.

Run full-system 'thorough' scans for malware anytime you experience unusual system behavior or instability. If you find evidence of infection, try the 5-Step Security Checklist here at Tech Support Forums ---

Vist Windows Update immediately after you run a System Restore, to reinstall any Security updates and other patches that will need reinstalling.

Depending on how far back your restore point was, some software might now need reinstalling. Check if any drivers need reinstalling-- visit Device Manager, and look for red x'x or yellow exclamation points. Also, reinstall any software that was installed after the date of the restore point you used.

I'll check back to see how you're doing.
Best of luck

I have a problem. My computer is having trouble booting up, every time I get to the part where it asks you how you want to start Windows (Safe Mode, Last Known Functioning Mode, Normal Mode) it usually resets itself. Occasionally it'll get past that and it'll show the boot screen with the Windows logo and the loading bar. Even more occasional is when I get to the user menu, where it shows the profile choices, I can't move my mouse or type anything, and then I have to start over again. The only problem is, I can't get past that part.

Also, I can go to the BIOS via the keyboard by pressing F2, so there must be an internal problem, something with the OS.

Please help!!

Hi All.

I would just like to clear up the exact order of the relationships between the hardware(more precisely peripherals-mouse, keyboard etc), the OS, the Chipset/BIOS the RAM and CPU:

My understanding:
Action: Click a button on screen with mouse:
1. Any input from hardware is handled by the Device Drivers(Whether it is System ROM BIOS, Option ROM BIOS or Software Drivers).
2. From the drivers the instructions are sent to the Chipset(Southbridge in case of I/O devices) and then to the CPU for processing.
3. From the CPU the commands are stored in the RAM and then passed to the OS.

I have a custom built PC and Providing Enough Peripherals? For USB Ports Power Not a long time ago my mouse died I thought it was due to the mouse just being faulty but I tried it with another PC and it worked perfectly I was confused and tried the mouse in the bios settings of my computer and it worked perfectly again However when I USB Ports Not Providing Enough Power For Peripherals? booted into Windows the lights on the mouse went out and Windows didn't even pick up that a mouse was connected USB Ports Not Providing Enough Power For Peripherals? I also noticed that certain USB memory drives and external hard drives were very temperamental when it came to functioning properly with certain USB ports it just seemed to be random whether they decided to work or even be recognised by Windows This was usually fixed by unplugging and plugging them back in or trying a different port I sort of ruled out a motherboard or port issue as the ports that didn't work were always different and it was all very random The mouse however didn't work at all regardless of which port it was plugged into I managed to come up with one fix though my keyboard has one USB passthrough which when I plugged the mouse into worked perfectly again and so I used that for a few months as a temporary fix The external memory problem wasn't fixed though Then today the keyboard died too it is fully back light and it just went out following an update of Windows Neither the passthrough nor the keyboard itself work at all and are as if they are both unplugged They are not even recognised in Windows One strange thing however is that when I plug my keyboard into a USB port it lights up and the back light works again and the mouse lights up through the passthrough too but it is still completely infunctional in Windows One other thing I noticed was that when I initially plug my mouse in to the passthrough it lights up and so I know there is power running through it but immediately goes out unless the keyboard is plugged into a USB port Please note that if the mouse is plugged straight into the USB port it doesn't light up at all only through the passthrough I know I should uninstall the update but as I have no working keyboard or mouse I can't and it would also be a short term solution and I want this completely resolved Any help is greatly appreciated thank you

A:USB Ports Not Providing Enough Power For Peripherals?

boot into safe mode and see if things work there. this will eliminate a hardware issue. and point it souly to windows.
If this works fine, download and install the latest chipset drivers for your mobo, as well as the usb 3 ones as theys are controlled by a different chipset on your mobo. this should solve your issues.

Just bought a new desktop 2TB/8GB RAM (Model: ASUS Desktop PC AFK31AN Series). I plugged it to the Master Socket of my usual Intelliplug Adapter with the Printer and Monitor plugged to the Peripheral Sockets but the peripheral sockets powering both printer and monitor keep tripping ON and OFF. I thought probably the Intelliplug Adapter is now too old for the new unit so I bought a brand new one but the problem persists. What could be the problem? Hitherto the Intelliplug Adapter was working fine with the old computer. What I notice though is that the new Desktop is powered by 12v 5.5mm pin plug stepped down from 240v 3 pins plug. Can that be an issue then? Please help I've enjoyed switching all units ON and OFF at the same time through the desktop.

A:Intelliplug Adapter trip peripherals ON and OFF

Quite likely as load will vary, probably not enough load to keep the slaves on.
please close your other thread on same subject to avoid confusion.

I have only been able to find old mouse rate checking software, they say it's running at under 100 Hz, I have it set at 1000 Hz. I bet it's just because the software is old, it was made in around the 1990's. I have been unable to find any modern ones.

Is there more current software to do this with, or do I need software at all?

And is there a way to check my other USB ports, like my keyboard and printer?

A:How do I find out what my mouse/other USB peripherals polling rates are?

Why do you need to know. The drivers will either handle or override it anyway.

Today I put together my PC.
At first I got no reaction from my screen and my mouse / keyboard did not do anything. After some googling i got the idea that some of the screws on the back of the mobo might not be in the right place.
Having solved this their was improvement! At boot the keyboard num-/scroll-/capslock flash once. But the rest is still dead!
The mouse is USB and the keyboard is PS2.
Screen attached via dvi-vga connecter.

Sys info:
Motherboard: MSI P55-GD65
CPU: i7 860 (I think)
RAM: OCZ 4GB 1833mhz
Video Card: Asus Radeon HD5870

Hopefully someone can help me so i can use my PC today xD

Almost every time I boot up with my webcam attached I get an error after logging into the desktop and then a blue screen crash. This repeats until I unplug the camera and sometimes I have to unplug my headset as well to get it to boot up correctly. I'm guessing it's a driver error but I don't have the know how to verify.

I made this thread yesterday about my Xbox 360 controller not working: I thought that was my only problem, but it's now apparant that my windows will no longer allow me to use any plug & play devices other than what I already have installed (my mouse, keyboard, webcam etc.). Any new peripheral I have that I connect that would have worked in the past within seconds now has its driver searched for only to come up with the driver not being able to be installed or even recognised at all.

UPDATE: I've been googling the hell out of this for 3 days now, by chance I found an article for Windows Vista dated from 2008, seems all I had to do was direct the driver install to "C:\windows\winsxs" and bang! Problem sorted, all my USB peripherals auto install quickly again.

However when I reconnected the other hds and usb devices, windows boot hangs at the "starting windows" stage. Upon rebooting a start repair program ran and show 7 errors.

I was given an IBM IBM power up motherboard, netvista troubles peripherals, netvista U and have been trying to get it to work right It s a P Ghz When I got it nothing showed up on screen and the keyboard didn t light up Took everything out of the case and plugged it together and finally got it to start up through the BIOS Then installed WinXP Pro and had all going well Then I wanted to replace the memory which was X Mb and video card so I bought X mb PC SDRAM and an Nvidia MX on ebay Popped them in and it went back to the same problem of the peripherals not working Thought it might be the motherboard since some caps looked funky so i bought another motherboard off ebay This mobo was the same model but a Ghz processor So I thought it may be the power supply but with no other ATX supply I couldn t test this Took apart another computer and used the power supply but the same issues with the netvista peripherals not working After much mix and match I left only one of the original Mb RAM modules in and it fired up So i put in the WinXP install cd and reformatted and installed Windows Once it rebooted I got stuck in a cycle of seeing the IBM startup graphic a blank screen and IBM netvista motherboard, peripherals, power up troubles then it restarts Thought it might be a BIOS issue so I flashed the bios and cleared the CMOS Now i m back to IBM netvista motherboard, peripherals, power up troubles the same problem as originally black screen at power up with no peripherals working The CDRW and hard drive seem to make no difference if connected disconnected I ve had this issue with two power supplies so I think that can be ruled out Same problem on two different motherboards This has to be an IBM bios memory issue right Any suggestions Thanks for any help Michael nbsp

If the G:\ drive is a removable drive, insert the media containing the Win32Diag.exe file.Click on Start->Run, copy and paste the following command into the "Run" box (including the quotation marks), and click OK. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\ Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.Step 4 Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here.Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan. The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. Sorry for the delay in responding. If you still need help with this, please start with these free hardware diagnostics: Your post said that you'd run some of the tests, so feel free to skip those that you've run.  As the graphics card is a possible suspect, please be sure to run those tests and let us know the results. Your UEFI/BIOS (version 2402) dates from 2010.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting. These devices have problems in Device Manager: Сетевой контроллер NVIDIA nForce    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0373&SUBSYS_CB841043&REV_A3\3&2411E6FE&0&88    Это устройство отключено.NVIDIA High Definition Audio    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10DE&DEV_0071&SUBSYS_10438508&REV_1001\7&2CBF1AA9&0&0001    Это устройство работает нормально. The first item is your nVidia nForce networking driver while the second is for the High Definition audio that' often a part of the video card.As such, you'll have to update both to the latest, Win10 compatible version. As there are no drivers for later than Win7 here: I'd have to wonder if this system has reached it's limit of upgradability and just isn't compatible w/Win10Should you decide to keep working on this, download the latest version of the chipset and video drivers for your system from nVidiaThen run them in Compatibility Mode for the version that they were intended for (for example, you'll run the chipset drivers in Compatibility Mode for Win7 - as that's the latest version that's available). There are many Live Kernel Events listed in the WER section of MSINFO32:Please do the following:- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")- right click on Administrative Events- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."- save the file as Admin.evtx- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here: waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: are no memory dumps in the uploaded reports, yet there's at least 4 BSOD's reported in the WER section of MSINFO32.Please do this: Upload Dump Files:NOTE:  If using a disk cleaning utility, please stop using it while we are troubleshooting your issues. Please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents of the folder.  Then upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.Left click on the first minidump file.Hold down the "Shift" key and left click on the last minidump file.Right click on the blue highlighted area and select "Send to"Select "Compressed (zipped) folder" and note where the folder is saved.Upload that .zip file w... I found the answer myself; Windows Explorer controls the icons displayed by Desktop.

Hi & Chinese Fujack Dancemat Nasty Peripherals Ntoskrnl mods I've got a good one for you I probably have a number of issues with my Ntoskrnl Dancemat Fujack & Nasty Chinese Peripherals HP Pavilion dv AP which have not been addressed promptly enough Reason being I teach in a college in China yeah right and Ntoskrnl Dancemat Fujack & Nasty Chinese Peripherals the network there is filthy - absolutely crawling with malware so each time I take a presentation I'm bringing home something horrible However this week I bought a cheap gamecontroller which had a driver disk unusual the virus is actually on the driver - can you believe it BUT it took days to be detected by AVG Housecall amp Kaspersky found nothing strange It's a model - the brand escapes me e -something it's made in Shenzhen PRC I threw the box away twin ps to pc Converter seems to be the main folder it dumped about folders the only signature I can find in a setup inf file is from GASIA International Ltd I think it's an Ntoskrnl Dancemat Fujack & Nasty Chinese Peripherals 'old' virus amp curable but I've had audio problems prompting me to ask for some stepwise errr steps as I think there may be some deep-lying registry problems hunch - how do I find out Stranger still I think it temporarily fixed my headphone socket - I only have right channel audio through phones the speakers are fine - I was going to open up the case to sort it out but nights ago I had stereo phones I was so excited I was actually going to keep this little beneficial virus - just for that reason but last night's audio was back to right ear only so it's not the socket I'm going to do ANOTHER scan in safe mode now - and ask you lovely people to browse through my other aliments after you've had your morning coffee weeks ago while I was cleaning up my files music etc to put onto a CD don't want to use my external HD as that is also infected and has managed to lose a G partition I Got a BSOD about a missing ntoskrnl exe Now it's the end of term I'm physically quarantined from that place - I can get down to some diagnosis I've upgraded AVG to version but didn't remove first -should I have done It seems a lot more bulky amp hungry than V I FINALLY took Norton off my machine because I was suddenly getting millions of popups and warning yes I was running AV's BUT AVG seemed to be taking care of everything on it's own for a couple of months - it was only when I brought home a couple of worms that Symantec started flagging the same files mostly in the restore points but was really going bananas - have I also just removed my only useful firewall Why I have been taking so long to do anything is because I can't boot up to see what's wrong the power button doesn't work - I lift the lid press nothing happens I'm on AC power It has happened about times in the months following my last post but never before I used to walk away get a coffee come back amp try again - it would boot up Battery well mine won't charge up - BUT when I snap it in and then put in my AC cable I do get a brief flash from the power indicator - I have no idea So it had been an occasional annoyance - But it's increased in frequency intensity over the past - weeks dramatically not responding for hours - preventing me from doing any virus fixing which has been a real pain When I do get running the clock is wrong and it seems to have stopped when I first pressed the power button The time difference corresponds to my downtime but not on every instance however this problem has been decreasing dramatically in the last week - I'm guessing it's humidity but the machine runs very hot -so it ought to be dry STOP PRESS I've just this second checked the virus vault for the names of the bad apps and now there's an infected file from AFT sysclean I ran it last night to free up space on C due to audio problem only G free Wasn't there before this has a worm agentC not fujacks I think I'll stop here amp wait for what next thanks

A:Ntoskrnl Dancemat Fujack & Nasty Chinese Peripherals

I was having lots of problems with spyware and malware, recently i downloaded and installed "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" it is a free download and an excellent bit of software. Additional to this I installed Spybot-search and destroy, again it is free and easy to use. Spybot informs you of any Registry changes and asks you is you wish to accept or deny. I rate them both very much. If you have a file/folder you cannot get rid of have a look for "Avenger", I had a file that was being used by another process so i tried all sorts of ways to stop/remove etc. with no joy. Avenger done this for me. Since using these three bits of software i have remained trouble free.

Hope this helps you mate

As a test, I brought home a wireless mouse (2.4Ghz, with dongle) from work and that wakes the computer just fine. It is only the Bluetooth devices that are no longer waking the computer since upgrading to Windows 8.1. Hope that helps narrow it down.
