I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have a new Z240 Workstation with a Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2 nVMe SSD.Windows 10 will install to the SSD from USB no problem but the machine fails to find the OS post install. The Samsung 950 Pro SSD does not show up in the UEFI section of the BIOS, but it does show up under Legacy devices.Secure Boot is not enabled. If I add a SATA HDD, Windows Boot Manager gets installed on the SATA device and the machine will then boot Windows 10 from SSD. How do I get the machine to boot from SSD without having to have a SATA HDD installed? I've updated the BIOS from 01.11 to 01.21 with no change in the above.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-wont-boot-from-M-2/td-p/5587319

Issue: Whever the system is booted/rebooted after POST, while transfering control to OS, the system goes into a pause/halt (keyboard and mouse doesn't responds)Workaround: As soon as one of the monitors is turned off, seems control passes to Windows 7 ("Loading windows" on black screen shows up) and boots normally, now the monitor can be turned on and dual display works as usualAdditional info: While the system is paused, if the NUM/CAPS/SCROLL lock is pressed in a particular sequence (even though the lights actually don't respond), it looks like the key-press sequence gets stored in buffer. This is verfied once one of the monitor is turned off, the same keypress pattern lights up on the keyboardSetup: z240 with 2x23" monitor connected to Display-ports, HP smartcard keyboard and mouse connected to rear USB. BIOS version 1.11 (SP74759)Has anyone experianced similar issue or anyone has a fix for this?
Same here.New Z240 workstation with Xeon E3-1245 v5 and two monitors HP Z24n, both attached on the motherboard's DisplayPorts.OS: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Sp1 with latest patches and drivers (including monitors' one), BIOS (01.27 Rev.A) I found two workarounds: power down and restart, or briefly attach another DVI monitor. I will try your trick to power off a monitor. P.S. Initially I had the same problem using two Samsung DVI monitors and HP DisplayPort->DVI adapters. I thought it was a problem with the signal conversion and changed monitors. Inspiron 14z n411z (Laptop): Authoritative confirmation of memory upgrade to 16 GB, 16GB, 16gb
There are various claims that 14z/n411z can be upgraded to 16GB (unofficial or therotical based on CPU-i5 being Sandy bridge)
Here are the main issues on this subject that has left many customers scramble for answers and find themselves confused:
* It is the interest of customers that Dell come out with an official statement "confirming" or "denying" if this is possible
* Yes, at the time of sale Dell stated that max permitted was 8GB. But now therotically (Sandy Bridge CPU can support 16Gb) and based on other users experiments it seems possible, but no concrete/firm proof available.
* If it is possible, Dell can always state that it will not support 16GB, though it (Dell) has tested it as possible in their labs.
* In the absence of a confirmation from Dell, most memory vendors are not selling memory 16 GB upgarde for Inspiron using their "configurators".
* There is another confusing twist to this problem, created by the fact there is another Dell XPS model facing same problem. But they newer CPU, for which most vendors are selling the memory upgrade on their configurators.
* For Dell, most users are now "past their Warranty" period. There is no liability in answering this question. In the LARGER interest of customers Dell should clear this doubt.
For those users who have done this at their home or office, can you please show us the "steps" and "results":
* Some users have claimed they have upgraded successfully to 16GB after updating their BIOS to current or latest version
* Can these early adopters post videos or steps on how they have done this. Please.
* Some have indicated they have faced problems, but have not stated if the BIOS upgrade was done
* Also what has been your experience after running it for few months.
* There are claims that 16GB upgrade has dramatically improved the life of 14z N411z, theoretically I would agreed it would. Proof required.

Hello I have a T workstation with an Xeon e - CPU and GB of RAM x GB After researching through the Technical specifications T3600 16GB with boot will not Ram than more I T3600 will not boot with more than 16GB Ram upgraded to an E - processor and purchased a GB Kit x GB of RAM nbsp I installed the CPU and I can get the machine to boot with GB ram - GB each in slots Dimm and Dimm nbsp However when I put RAM into either DIMM or DIMM the machine powers on for a few seconds then shuts down nbsp If I put RAM in all four DIMMs the machine powers on and the power light stays steady lit but does not BOOT According to the technical specifications manual the machine should work with up to GB of memory nbsp The spec says quot GB x GB DDR MHz quot nbsp I m assuming the is a misprint nbsp I purchased a GB kit of x GB DDR Rx CL v RDIMM ECC memory nbsp BTW nbsp This is also what is recommended on the Crucial memory scan page nbsp DDR PC - bull CL bull Dual Ranked bull x based bull Registered bull ECC bull DDR - bull V bull Meg x My first thought is the power supply nbsp However I checked the original configuration using the service tag and the original configuration power supply is W PS nbsp There is a RAID controller and a MB NVidia Quadro NVS card and only one GB SATA drive nbsp Hardly enough to overpower the power supply I tried installing two of the original DIMM s in banks and but got the same behavior I reset the BIOS to default settings and have searched for but have been unable to find anywhere in the BIOS to change memory timing or voltage settings Why does only GB work and does anyone know how I can get all four DIMM banks to work with GB DIMM s UPDATE When I install RAM in all four banks the machine doesn t shut off and the power light stays steady lit nbsp This happens no matter if I have all four of the new x RAM modules installed or the original x modules installed This leads me to suspect the problem may lie with the CPU as that is the only other new component However I ran a full diagnostic on the CPU and it passed with no issues To test for a possible power issue I removed the RAID controller but the above behavior does not change Also I have verified by part number that the W PS is installed and I did previously upgrade the BIOS to v A Thank you

I have just built a new pc with the following (all new components 6/17/2011):
os: win7 64bit
mb: asus m5a88-v evo
hd: seagate 1.5tb 6gb/s
ram: g.skill ddr3 4gb each stick (3 installed)
I had a hard time trying to install windows until I disconnected the blueray dvd (sata) and pulled out 2 of the memory sticks. I've tried to have 16Gb of ram but windows doesn't boot if all 4 stick are installed. It works great with 3 sticks.
The bios version is still at the initial stage.
I suspect that as ASUS posts new bios updates, more memory will be supported and bugs will get fixed.
You may want to check and see if your ram is on the Qualified Vendors List.

Hi everyone- So I ve got a GA-Z XP-UD mbo intel i boot to Machine 16GB i RAM won't upgrade when k and have been using x gb of gskill mhz F - CL D- GBXL since august I got an additional x gb gb total now but my Machine won't boot when i upgrade to 16GB RAM computer refuses to boot at all when i put all sticks in Everything runs perfect with GB installed and will even boot with although it only uses gb of course it says right on the ram that timings should be - - - which is what my ram is set to in the bios its set to mhz with V also printed right on the ram I ve also tried the ram at lower speeds with no luck When I boot it up with gb it turns on for a second and before any screen even displays it powers off and cycles I have no idea what the problem is and gigabyte support has been useless Sorry if this is the wrong section but i suspect a faulty motherboard as i ve tested all the ram and both ram channels individually I also have GB of Patriot signature line RAM PSD G KH that has the exact same result Any suggestions nbsp
Have you thoroughly checked the motherboard specs for the correct memory?
Originally came with 8GB RAM - upgraded to 16GB with exact same timings as original RAM.
BIOS is up to the latest/greatest version.
Since upgrading boot time has been miserably slow. I've since done a complete reload of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and installed at the latest drivers from the HP website - boot times are still extremely long.
Original hard drive was a 750GB 5400RPM drive (not a hybrid, not SSD), switching over to a 1TB 5400RPM drive made no difference.
Virtual memory is set to allow Windows to manage.
By the way, booting into Ubuntu takes no more than 15 seconds.
Any suggestions? 3+ minutes to boot into Windows excessive to say the least!
If you drop back to 8GB, does the problem go away? Not a fix, just a test to see what happens.http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/286496-extremely-slow-boot-after-upgrade-16gb.html

I would burn a boot CD from the latest Memtest to be sure.
It's easy enough to check.
.iso files are here: http://www.memtest.org
If that shows OK, I would call MS and ask about the issue.
Hi I have an Asus rog g750 jw. For a while now my pc has been booting up slow, 3-4mins from 1-2mins from 30secs. I have did so many test and removed so many programs and viruses that I am not completely sure what the source of the problem is. one thing I did do is disable some services in services.msc although I am not sure which ones caused it, so that may be an issue. I really don't want to have to fully reset my pc, but any help is sincerely apperciated. (minor lags on beginning, but no over cpu usage or memory usage)
I have also disabled drivers like the keyboard, mouse and some Nvedia drivers in device manager because There was a spill on the laptop and... As for the nvedia drivers I had to because they were Causing some latency when I used an external dac for audio (which is still there- causing freezing in the screen, atm I use the audio supplied)http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/597750/boot-time-for-notebook-really-slow-3-4mins-16gb-i7-4700-proccesor/
I recently purchased Dell XPS 13 9350 i7 RAM 16GB 512SSD, 13.3″ QHD touch, Windows 10
On this morning, I started the PC, I saw on scree
"Boot Guard verified DXE that is fail.Press any button to shut down"
And then shut down, not woking Power off.
Can you understand what the problem is, and suggest a solution?
Thanks a lot!
Hi Team, We are trying to install win7 on Z240 but due to some issue the SSD does not gets detected we have also tried installing Win7 via CD/USB but still no luck can someone help me regarding this issue.
If secure boot is enabled in BIOS, try disabling it and enable legacy boot. Also in case you are using NVME SSD, then you may need to inject the corresponding driverhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/Z240/td-p/5529208

Hello, I am working on installing windows 7 enterprise 64, on a z240 SFF. I am missing the USB drivers for it. There has not been one driver that has solved this problem, so I was looking for some sort of help on finidning one.l I tried a few other drivers for different model of towers but no luck. please help
Hi: Please post the hardware ID for the USB controller that needs the driver. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/z240-sff-USB-driver-missing/td-p/5746056

When you run HP service packs, they will expand and place their contents under an own directory within C:\swsetup.Specifically in your case, if you run sp74202.exe, you should see a new directory C:\swsetup\SP74202 has been created with the contents of the service pack within. Alternatively you can use 7-zip to peek inside the service pack exe without running it since the exe is a self extracting zip file that runs the installer once decompressed In any case, a newer ME update exists here but i'd first apply the latest system firmware update available here. When looking at the HP service pack links above, it's good practice to selectively click each "Description", "Enhancements", "Installation Instructions" "Release Notes" "Fixes" and "Revision History" tabs and read the information (some of it is repetative but you'll soon learn where to focus your attension). The contents of these tabs contain important and relevant information on what has been improved, fixed, which system it's for, how to install the update, etc. And if a previously installed SP is not listed in the "revision history" tab, that release may have been pulled by HP due to some fauly behaviour or other issue! Pay particular attension to the prerequisits as in some instances firmware updates have to be stepped (that is you can't always simply apply the latest). And if you read such boaring stuff, the system firmware (BIOS) Installation Instructions tab would have given you a clue where the sp files are expanded to Have you tried simply enter the command (as specified) via a command prompt window but changing directories to where the FWUpdLcl.exe file is located? Just keep in mind that sp74202 is the initial ME firmware release so nothing sould update So best to apply the latest system firmware (BIOS), then the ME firmware, then maybe the latest ME software (under chipset drivers). My system came with a Nvidia PCIe card. I would like to remove this card and use the integrated graphics. Whenever I remove the PCIe the system will just beep, and the integrated wouldn't work. I went in the bios but cannot find anything to enable the integrated. Thankshttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/Z240-Integrted-graphics/td-p/5628346
Hello, I have some problem to open a ticket in warranty for an HP Z240. I'm registered on HP Support and also HP Enterprise Support, but when I try to open a ticket after the serial number check the site platform give me an error: this is not the right site for this serial number. I get this error on HP Support and also HP Enterprise support. What is the procedure to open a warranty ticket for this workstation?????If I call the telephone support number is always busy......it is crazy Thanks,Alessandrohttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Warranty-HP-workstation-Z240/td-p/5840120
I am trying to setup my new HP Z240 workstation, but cannot get the graphics card to operate at any resolution above 1024 X 768. The graphics card is an NVIDIA QUADRO K620. It is connected to the monitor with a DVI-D Dual link cable. The monitor is an HP w2408. The monitor has two inputs (DVI and VGA). I have the VGA input connected to another HP computer with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 card (this computer/card/monitor displays at 1920 x1200). When I checked the adapter modes (using the list modes option), the best mode listed is 1024 x 768. The NVIDIA spec sheet lists the max resolution with DVI-I as 2560 x 1600 or 1920 x 1200. What can I do to get the max resolution from my monitor (1920 x 1200)?
Update. Problem solved. When I realized that the monitor in DVI mode was not being recognized as PNP, it pointed to the monitor as the problem. Installed new monitor, everythng works as it should. Evidently the VGA input to the old monitor functioned properly while the DVI portion was defective (card or cable connection). Hello, My company recently purchased some Z240 SFF workstations and put in aftermarket multi-media card readers in the 3.5" slot. The card reader uses the internal USB 3.0 header, so I had to unplug the USB 3.0 cable for the for the front usb ports in order to get it to work. The media card reader works just fine in Windows, however, I get a POST error message on startup: "Cable detection Error 41A- Front USB2 Not Connected. Front USB cable has been detached or unseatted from the motherboard. Press Enter to continue." Is there anyway to disable POST messages? I can't seem to find anything in the UEFI/BIOS to do this.
One of the HP engineers who has been very helpful to us here has recently posted on a related question, and he has access to the schematics and the internal design details of these workstations. His post is on this thread, HERE : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z420-USB3-0-Head... Dan tells how to jumper the header to make it believe the cable is still connected, and it would not matter whether you jumpered at the motherboard end or the far plug end, as long as you got the correct pins/plug holes jumpered. Note his caution.... that seems to suggest that the pins on the motherboard are not as stout as the ones we are used to seeing. A proper sized insulated wire jumper with a short segment of wire exposed at each end can be used as a jumper at the far plug end of a cable, rather than the little plastic jumpers we use at the motherboard pin end of thins. If you carefully figure out the wire colors this should work. The wiring of such headers/cables within a HP workstation family are usually the same, and things can stay the same from one generation to another, in my experience.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-POST-Message-disable/td-p/5761989

HiI have bought a z240 tower which runs really well with win 7 pro. Recently, I wanted to add an SATA extension card, but without any success. I am looking for a simple SATA controller without RAID functionality (which unnecessary slows down the boot procedure). Unfortunately, HP does not offer any SATA boards as accessories - Is there any recommendation for such a card from your side? I've bought a LogiLink PC0059A card, unfortunately, the system does no longer startup when connecting drives to it. The hp BIOS screen appears as usual, then the card shows the attached drives, after that the hp bios screen appears again and reamains without any reaction (reboot required). Hi, I had a look inside and the Z Turbo drive appears to be connected to the motherboard (location 23 on the motherboard map in the manual) and not using a SATA port or any of the four main PCIe3 slots. Only one of the PCIe3 slots is being used and that is for the NVIDIA graphics card, and only one of the SATA ports is being used and that is for the Slim BluRay drive (connected to SATA3). That means there are 3 x SATA ports available, and 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5" bays available, by the looks of it. My question is, is it possible to put 3 x HDD/SSD drives in it, i.e. 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5"?

I am trying to install Windows 7 on a HP Z240 SFF workstation but when I boot from the Windows 7 USB media, it does not show the HDD even though it is connected. it would be great if someone could help me out with this issue. Thanks in advance.
Hello matt_william, If you are using a retail version of Windows 7 Operating System. You may have to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver while installing the OS. On the HDD partition windows, you will get LOAD DRIVER option, you have to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. Please find below link to download Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=8323799&swItemId=wk_156996_1&swEnvOid=405... NOTE: THIS ACTIVITY NEED TO BE PERFORMED ON ANOTHER UNIT. TO USE THE INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY DRIVER DURING A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLATION: 1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved). 2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. 3. Navigate to C:\SWSETUP\SP73487 and unzip "f6flpy-x64.zip" to a USB key for a 64-bit installation. 4. Use the newly created driver installation media during operating system setup to install the drivers. Once you copy the driver on another USB media, connect it with unit on which you are trying to install OS. Click on Load Driver and navigate to USB and install the driver. Once the installation is complete, You will be able to access HDD and will be able to install OS. I hope that answers your question. I just got a HP Z240 Tower with a 400W power supply, 32 GB of RAM and 512 GB M.2 SSD. Is the GeForce GTX 970 Graphics card compatible? My PCIe v3 x16 slot is available.
Greetings, The 400 power supply could be an issue. A stock GTX 970 lists a recommended 500 watt power supply. You have to verify the 10.1 inch to 10.5 inch card will fit in your chassis. You should have the required UEFI BIOS if the system is brand new and you have a PCIe x16 3.0 slot available on the system board. Hello. I am currently working on getting a fresh installation of Windows 7 on our HP Z240's in order to create our standard business image. I was able to install Windows 7 Enterprise but am having one issue. Whenever the workstation goes into sleep mode it will do a hard shutdown. I've installed the latest drivers found here for the chipset, graphics, NIC and sound. The issue still occurs. I've done the same on three different workstations and have experienced the same issue between all three. The OEM Windows 7 installation has no issues on the same exact workstation. Hi there nbsp My work machine is a HP Z SFF PC Last month the machine began randomly hanging and displaying blue screen errors There isn't much in the way of discernible patterns but it tends Z240 SFF blue crashes and HP screens random hangs, to happen when the machine is in use rather than idling and I can consistently reproduce it when using the Prime stress testing utility When I set it to maximise CPU heat as soon HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes as I stop the test the machine blue screens indicating a cooling issue The machine's fan is very quiet although on occasion it gets very loud after a restart and then quietens down I would expect the fan to get louder as the CPU gets hotter during the HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes stress test but this doesn't happen so I wonder if the fan is malfunctioning and if this is a known issue with these machines or if there is any possible resolution nbsp Please see below for the output of BlueScreeView which displays the error codes produced by recent blue screen errors nbsp nbsphttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z240-SFF-random-hangs-blue-screens-and-crashes/td-p/5658407
Hi, I?d like to install a media card reader (e.g. HP 468494-005) into the shared internal/external 3.5" drive bay of my HP Z240 SFF workstation but it doesn't fit. It appears that newly shipping Z240 Tower workstations DO NOT have an internal USB header anymore? The System Board Overview graphic in the Maintenance & Service Guide (Oct 2015) shows #7 as a USB 2.0 internal header. However, the location where the header should be on the system board is actually a 1x6 pin header (P150) listed as "MEDIA". The other USB 2.0 Header, #5, is taken up as the front USB cable. So is there an updated manual that shows what is actually on the system board? The Z240 Tower QuickSpec is dated March 2016, so I'm hoping there is a newer manual out there somewhere. Any idea what the P150 MEDIA header is for? Is this for the old media card readers? I have the optional SD card reader, but that is attached to #8 which is the internal USB 3.0 header. Any way to attach deveices that need an internal USB 2.0 header?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-internal-usb-header-and-updated-Maintenance-amp-Service/td-p/5598284
Hi all, I got a Z240 SFF workstation with a 512G HP Z Turbo Drive G2 intalled on M.2 slot as a boot drive. I recently add a 1.2T Intel 750 PCIe SSD on PCIe slot 4 for additional storage. However after the Intel 750 SSD was intalled, the computer began to shutdown automaticly after couple of minutes running. The issue will be fixed after remove the Intel 750 SSD. The system is running 64bit Win10, with Samsung NVMe Driver. The Intel 750 SSD can also be read and write when installed and Intel Data Center Tool shows that the SSD is healthy. I think the auto shutdown issue is related to overheating on 750 SSD. I am wondering if the motherboard of Z240 SFF is compatible with Intel 750 SSD. Does anyone have Intel 750 PCIe SSD installed on their Z240 SFF or any other Z Workstation? Thanks! When running an SCCM 2012 R2 task sequence to install Windows 10 on a Z240, the network driver is working in Windows PE during the download and apply Windows image. I'm using Auto Apply Drivers step and after it's completed, the computer restarts into the Windows 10 OS, tries to set up the devices and then the task sequence fails because there is no network driver detected that it can use. I've tried to import multiple types of network drivers from both HP and Intel with no success. I've tried to specifically apply the Z240 driver package instead of using Auto Apply Drivers with no success. I've also tried to install a Windows 8.1 image instead and it still fails at the same point. I'm confused because it works fine in PE, but not after restarting and booting into the Windows OS. I felt a bit flush recently and bought 4 x 4gb ddr2 stick to upgrade my main PC. Just run a few things and its obviously better than my previous 4GB total however I noticed, for example, divx conversion only used 56MB of memory and there is still so much free.
Is this much memory a waste? If so I'll use half of it to beef up my WHS.
Should I fresh install W7?
Proc: Intel Core 2 E8400
Mobo: Intel DG45ID (16GB max ram).
Yes it is a waste. Really anything over 4gb is a waste for an average user. For a high power user 6-8gb is optimal. Most apps do not need that much memory to run efficiently and with how efficient Operating Systems are with memory management these days, it is overkill to have more than needed. I know I like to have the fastest and the best too, but I would suggest, like you said, put half of it in your WHS although WHS only needs about 512Mb to run and 1-2Gb is optimal. Really it is totally up to you. If you want bragging rights leave the 16 in if not split it up. You could even put 4gb in WHS and 12 in your PC.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/89684-16gb-ram.html
I bought a new laptop and it has 1 stick of 4GB ddr3 1600.
I use my laptop for:
- Video editing (premiere pro, vegas, after effects)
- Games (GTA 4/5, Sims)
- Photo editing
- Music editing
I am just wondering if I should get another stick of 4Gb 1600 or buy 2 8GB 1600?
Is 16GB worth it? Or is it overkill? Because it's quite expensive.
If I buy 2 8GBs I will have a 4GB lying around unused.
Please give suggestions!
Also is 16GB 1333 or 8GB 1600 better? Which is faster?
Hi. I just bought a second-hand computer today. Anyway I was under the impression it had 16gb of ram. I found out in the control panel it says the computer has 8gb of ram.
Here's the ad: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/paddington/desktops/full-spec-gaming-computer/1012071080
"2 x 8gb G.SkillDDR3-2133 RAM"
Am I wrong in assuming that means 16 total? Or does that somehow mean 8gb total?
I wanna know to decide whether i have a right to complain/ return it, or whether there was no false advertising on his part.
i think this isn't a hardware problem , what is there to do about it ? i know the ram definitely works with win7/8 .............
Go through the suggestions here:http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/...Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thankshttp://www.computing.net/answers/windows-10/win-10-says-i-have-25gb-of-ram-when-i-have-16gb-installed/393.html

im running Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit. Why do i only see 8Gb as opposed to 16Gb ?
My motherboard will run up to 16Gb. I have 4 x 4Gb sticks.
How much memory do you see in your BIOS?http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/118118-windows-7-16gb-ram.html
Ok, getting a new computer which has 16GB of Ram. How can I use this wisely? Someone mentioned a RAM DISK and you agree, how do you create a RAM DISK? Thanks.
If you are using Windows 7 you don't need to do anything. Let Windows 7 take care of all that Ram, it will do a fine job.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/154311-new-i7-computer-16gb-ram.html
I have an E6410 latitude with 16GB (2x8GB) ram installed. On latest BIOS firmware (A11).
Linux is rock solid...however, booting my Windows partition results in a blank, white screen right after the Win 7 splash screen starts to display...then it reboots.
Anyone able to boot/run Win 7 with 16GB ram?
I can confirm that E6410 with i7-620M version of CPU will NOT WORK with 16GB of RAM (2x8GB or 1x16GB)

Sham but it's still runs extremely well with 8GB + 500GB SSD.

Hi Eject. I'm not convinced this issue is malware related, but let's take a look with a couple other tools.
Let's take a more detailed look at what's running on the machine.
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and save it to your desktop.
* For 64-bit (x64) editions of Windows:http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/FRST64.exe
# Double-click on FRST to run it.
# When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
# Leave all settings as they are.
# Press the Scan button.
# When the scan is done, it will save the reports to the same location as ?FRST? (if you had saved ?FRST? on your desktop, then the reports will be saved on the desktop). Please attach FRST.txt to your reply.
# The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
I hav a 16G TDK pen drive that works on any other PC. I use it as an install stick with Win8 on it. It is very intermittent on my PC(Win 8 64bit). I know all the USB ports are working as I have tested them, check dev manager etc. Sometimes Ill put it in it shows (rare). I am at a loss
thanks in adavance
When you insert it does windows say found new hardware, installing drivers, install sucessful?
Have you rebooted the system? (some people never turn off their PC thats why I ask)
does disk management see it?
I'm trying to use 16GB of RAM in Windows XP x64, which is supposed to support up to 128GB, but System Properties is only reporting 7.96GB recognized.
The memory is brand new, and working. It was recognized on Windows 8 on the same machine, and Speccy recognizes that there are 16GB from within XP as well.
Is there some trick to enabling support for more memory? I have tried using msconfig to increase the maxmem to 16gb but it would not let me increase it past 8156mb. I tried manually editing boot.ini to the same end but it did not work.
Any help is appreciated.
Go to Start/Run and type msconfig and press enter. Go to the Boot.ini tab, press the Advanced button. Un-check the box next to /MAXMEM=http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/solved-using-16gb-of-ram-in-xp-x64-702588.html
I can not get this flashdrive to work on my computer...It worked at one point in time but now it is not working and i don't know how to get a driver for it...

Just wondering if it is possible to run 16GB (2x8GB) RAM on an old motherboard which specifies max 2x4GB RAM. I understand that sometimes they are reluctant to officially support more RAM that's available in the market at the time of release and just hoping that it is possible to fit in more.
Has anyone tried putting in more RAM than the motherboard has recommended?
I am not willing to buy new sticks of RAM, try it and find that it doesn't work. Unfortunately I do not have another computer that has/want that much RAM...
After doing more digging I come to the conclusion it's probably not possible without A LOT of work and investment.
Hi guys, I am brand new to this forum.
Hi upgraded to Windows 8.1 (from Windows 7) a few days ago and I really love flight simulation. I have noticed that while I am playing Flight Simulator X, my computer in general starts to get pretty laggy (Moving windows, typing etc).
I have an i7 2600 (oc 3.9ghz), HD6780 and 16GB of ram installed. I opened up task manager to find that 7.4GB of ram is being used out of 8.5. But it says it is only using 47%!
I might be reading this all wrong, but I believe this is the reason why my computer's performance drops when I use close to 8.5 GB of RAM.
EDIT: I have just looked in System Information and found this, it might be of use.
I opened up task manager to find that 7.4GB of ram is being used out of 8.5.
I have no idea how you get that. Task manager clearly shows that you have 16 GB RAM (actually 15.9) of which 7.4 GB is in use. That is very close to 47%.
From the display it seems quite clear that whatever problems you are having, RAM is not the cause.

Hello.Im wondering after reading this old post, if i can upgrade the ram to 16gb even if the maufacturer sais that the max is 8gb.that would be If its possible for my model HP Pavilion DV7 4320el motherbord = Model 163E (CPU)chipsetmodel = Havendale/Clarkdale Host Bridgesouthbridgemodel = HM55cpu = Intel Core i5 CPU M 480 @ 2.67GHz8gb ram512gb ssd
That laptop and yours are similar but it had a Quad Core processor. Yours has the HM55 chipset and the specs on the chipset say 8 gigs maximum memory. 16 gigs might work but I would bet against it. Hi,I have a hp pavilion 15 n242se with 8GB of RAMI want to upgrade to 16GB of RAMCan you help me please?I don't know what is the best type of RAM to My device.
See p. 42 of the Manual here: Manual The specs say your laptop came with 4 gigs, how does it now have 8? There are two slots and the Manual says it can take 12 gigs, a 4 gig module and an 8 gig module but we have figured out here it can take 16 gigs or 2 x 8. What you need to get kind of depends on what you already have. If you have a single 8 gig module I would try to find the same. If you have 2 x 4 gig you have to replace them anyway and this is the specified 8 gig memory module: 8 GB memory module PC3L 12800 1600Mhz Shared 693374-001 for which this would be compatible: https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-PC3-12800-KVR16LS11/dp/B00CQ35HBQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=U... One thing I will add is that many computer users are disappointed with the 8 gig to 16 gig upgrade. 8 gigs is a lot of memory and you may not even be using the entire 8 gigs so that upgrading will have very little effect on performance. But in your case the upgrade is easy to do and whether to upgrade is your call. Post back if you have any more questions. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/upgrade-to-16GB-of-RAM/td-p/5767158
Any idea what is going on? Task manager or process explorer doesn't show anything taking up 16GB's of ram usage, yet its maxing out.
Tried upping the pagefile but to no avail.

Hi Moldypoato and Welcome the Eight Forums
We have had this discussion so many times. Modern OS from Vista onward use all the ram to load the os and everything possible into it. Why have ram and have it empty when it is the fastest method of loading and unloading data. Superfetch loads stuff into ram. Programs you use often. Then they are ready right away. Don't fool with this as it will cause your computer to run slower and even crash with a BSOD

One of my friend asking me about would it be okay to put 16GB ram on HP DV6-6168tx notebook. I have no experience on how will it get along with the performance, so I need your opinions.
1) would it effect on performance of the notebook? I mean would adding that much of huge ram on DV6 will slow it down rather than giving more performance?
2) would it be unstable adding 16GB ram when running multiple vmware?
* notebook has I7 second gen proc, HD 6770M, 8GB 1333 DDR3 ram, intel HM65 or 67 chipset. cant remember. hp has mentioned it supports 16GB.
* he says that he needs this amount on purpose of running multiple virtual machines and for programming.
thank you. any suggestions welcome
EDIT:thanks you for moving to right thread. I thought it will be somthing like general question. sorry for the inconvenience.
As far as I know the DV-6 will only support 8 gigs. What model number?http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/229234-16gb-ram-hp-dv6-notebook-performance.html
Unless I do a Windows Anytime Upgrade, or unless I can get rid of this jet-engine of a CPU cooler, I can't stick more than 16GB of RAM on my motherboard anyway. So what gives?
This motherboard supports up to 64GB.

You pretty much answered your own question.

Some people say to put it on an old spindle drive, but isn't that a bad idea? Won't that slow things down, badly?? What happens without one that is so bad?
I have 8GB of RAM and my page file is almost never touched. On my desktop, i run the pagefile on my spinner drive and since it's hardly used, it hardly seems to have any bearing on performance.
If it was ok to run without a page file, I would think MS would shut it off upon sensing you have enough RAM, but they don't. It's just like they disable defrag when it senses you have an SSD.
I just build my new pc and i installed 16 Gb of Ram(CORSAIR VENGEANCE), when i installed windows is sat it to activate later. when i had installed windows and were booted intro windows it used all 16Gb, and all was fine, but then i had to activate windows and at the time my internet was down so it didn't work. so windows said that my windows were a pirate copy, butt any ways i got my windows activate later that day butt windows says that 16GB of ram is detected butt only 7,97 can be used. So long story short I ended up getting an elitebook 8560w this week and it needs ram. Just wondering if I should get 8gb or 16gb. This is a do-everything-I-need-you-to-do laptop. I was shopping for a gaming rig but life intervened and now I need it to be a work machine I can use to demonstrations with...so no alienware! lol.
Ok, so the most taxing things I can think of doing with it would be:
- Running a movie on the 47" TV from it while doing work on laptop
- Playing some games, mostly Dota2, maybe some others but really just dota2.
- Dual monitor setup (triple if possible), for database management, not really system taxing other than having the 3 monitors to keep multiple windows open at the same time.
So does it make any sense getting 16bg or just go with 8gb?
8 would be fine for most of that; but the 16 would be beneficial for development if that's what you're doing DB management-wise.http://www.techist.com/forums/f84/hp-elitebook-8560w-8gb-16gb-276357/
Hey guys, so the other day I found out one of my Modules was faulty (Corsair Vengeance 16 GB kit) and i took it out and tested the rest and the board DIMM slots, everything else was great.
So today i received my replacement 4GB Module and at first it was saying 16 GB (12 GB usable) in System, I took all the ram out and reseated the 4 Modules and it showed 16GB in Bios and Memtest86 (which was fine)
Thing is now it says 16.0GB (15.0GB usable) in Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > System why is that? is it normal?
Don't matter now, I decided to format, that seemed to fix it.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/232222-16gb-15gb-usable-help.html
I am turning to the community to find out if anyone has installed 16GB of memory in their Y580. Lenovo's manual and website says that 8GB is the maximum supported, but some posts have indicated that it might support 16GB. I need to hear from someone who has actually tried 16GB of RAM in their Y580 as to whether it worked as this is the only thing holding me back from purchasing the Y580.
Go to Solution.
According to Crucial on their site the max is 8 GB for the Y580 And since Lenovo says the same,i would go with that. However i would be interested to hear otherwise.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y580-16GB-RAM-Support/td-p/811271

Hello all I noticed when poking around in my computer settings and hardware information that my RAM is showing Gb but only Gb are quot usable quot I have been looking all over creation to find out why but to no avail I am utilizing Windows Ultimate -bit OS AMD Phenom II x T ASRock Extreme mobo Gb sticks of G Skill Ripjaws RAM installed usable) 16Gb (4Gb DDR ram and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics card I have tried all sorts of things from tweaking the volts a bit which showed Gb usable out of installed and crashed the computer to putting one stick in the mobo at a time and booting with each stick this gave me short beeps when trying to boot two of the sticks individually As a side note When I have all RAM in 16Gb installed RAM (4Gb usable) it shows all in my bios and on my System Properties I now have the sticks in that didn't cause the -beep error which is Gb and it's only showing Gb usable On another note from time to time when booting I get an error that says to quot reboot and select a bootable device quot even though the HDD 16Gb installed RAM (4Gb usable) has not been changed or manipulated in any way If all of these things are able to be addressed through a tweaking of my bios I can't seem to find an easy way to do it anywhere My apologies if I missed a thread that pertained to this issue but I have a bit of a Frankenstein computer on my hands here and could use some advice Thank you in advance
Hello and welcome Absalom mate try a memtest first up maybe you have some bad sticks or slots even .
You need to make a bootable disk then set the BIOS to boot from the optical and then let it run for at minimum of 8 passes unless you get errors straight away see RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Just brought a xD card adapter for my Fujifilm F30. As I will be going to Melbourne and I would love to take some filming and things.
Yestersday I spoke with Jessop about this and she say inserting 16GB microsd with xd card would crash my camera. The only maximum size for my camera is 2GB
Is there way that I might could upgrade my firmwire of my camera this might accept higher size of card? It just that I cannot afford a new camera.
Tho if it had to be 2GB but I'm still happy with it as 2gb microsd are cheaper then xD
I just upgraded from 8GB to 16GB RAM.
I have a 1M Page File set up on a secondary drive.
I use Acronis to do daily backups of my system.
I have a desktop Gadget that monitors CPU, Memory and Page File usage.
Memory usage has yet to hit 50% with all sorts of apps open at once.
For example, I run giants like Skyrim and other applications at the same time with no Page File usage. Zero. Nada.
Here's the question:
Can anyone explain to me in plain English why Acronis is the only program that still uses that Page File?
I don't get it...
Acronis (TrueImage?) probably uses the page file as temporary buffer space to compress the backup, or to restore it...http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/217269-16gb-ram-acronis-still-using-pagefile.html

I purchased one Satellite P50-B-11L that has 8GB of RAM memory.
I would like to add additional 8GB. I saw that the form currently mounted in black slot is a DDR3L (then operating at 1.35V correct?)
The problem is that the free slot (white) has recorded on the writing 1.5V
I must therefore buy a DDR3 (whitout "L" then 1.5V) for the white slot or not?
Thank for help,
No one has ever asked this question?
Anyway, I put a DDR3L same as the original slot white my own risk. It works very well, fast and the BIOS detects 16GB. Perhaps the memory operates at 1.5V without problems because it has a tolerance, or the motherboard detects the memory DDR3L and lowers the voltage to 1.3V. I do not know!

Hi, From its specs: MEMORYStandardDDR3L-1600 (Transfer rates up to 1600 MT/s)*2 SODIMM (Core i5/i3); 1 SODIMM (Pentium/Celeron)Standard memory up to 8192MB MaximumMaximum 1333 MT/s with BayTrail M Pentium (1.8 GHz, 1 MB cache) processor; Maximum 1066 MT/s with BayTrail MCeleron (1.86 GHz, 1 MB cache) processor.* Maximum memory speed supported is 1600 MHz, but it will be downgraded to 1333 MHz for systems running the E1-2100 and Pentium N3520 processors, and 1066 MHz for systems running the Celeron N2815 processor.NOTE: Due to the non-industry standard nature of some third-party memory modules, we recommend HP branded memory to ensure compatibility. If you mix memory speeds, the system will perform at the lower memory speed.*Maximum memory capacities assume Windows 64-bit operating systems or Linux.
