Preferred Solution: Offline File and Folder Sync

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Scott
I found the problem and use following method to fix it
1) Check SBS group policy
2) Check permission on CSC folders (I delete all folder under this folder and check permission on this folder)
3) Reinitialize Cache database, there are different method but i use following
And finally restart PC

I have a nailed up VPN between 2 sites the remote site is connected to the main and is joined to the domain.

I have set the workstation up so that when the user logs on and off the my documents synchronises back to the Main site. since there are more and more documents in this folder its becoming very slow. when the user clicks on my documents its taking around 15 seconds to open, i have checked all the dns and ip settings and its as it was originally when it was quick, is there a way to make the folder offline without terminating the VPN link so that they can work on it and then when they log off, it syncs back to the server.

Many thanks

Our users "my documents" folders are set up for redirection to \\ourserver\users

We have an XP based machine ( machine X ) that was used by person A, each time they logged off it synchronized as expected.

However machine X is now used by another user B.

Whenever user B logs off user A's offline files still keep synchronising, have deleted all the files from the offline folder I still cannot see a way of stopping user A's files and starting the new user B's files sync.

User A's files were accounting type files and are sensitive files that should not be viewed by others, however by still sync to the offline files folder they can be easily viewed.

Any thoughts as how I can stop this and re-direct the new users files to sync as I need to release this pc for general use.

A:Offline files / folder sync

You need to unmark the old users' folders for offline use, apply, reboot and make sure that the machine can see the domain and be made happy on that front, log in as the new user and then mark those new folders for offline use.

Since user has been migrated to Vista Enterprise, offline files have not been functioning correctly. It appears to ONLY be that way for newly created files and folders. Sync log indicates that "the files are in use by another system."

All other users syncing to the same server are fine.

I've disabled Indexing, but that did not take care of it.
I've also googled the heck out of this. Nothing worked.

If I go to the actual server location and sync from there, it works without issue, but not the other way. There's a similar error for every created file or folder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have a new employee that wants to use her laptop, which is fine. It is a Dell with XP pro. At her former job she was synchronizing her offline files with their Win 2003 server.

I have set it up to work on our network and to synchronize offline files with our Win 2003 server. All this is working great, but it still attempts to synchronize with the old server.

I looked on line and did not find any advice on how to make it forget the old server. Any thoughts? It is working at the moment, but really annoying.

I have a user (my CFO) that uses the offline sync like everyone else in our company. However, when he's working on a document offline he needs to reboot before that file will sync to the server regardless of if he's online again or not. It does sync when the computer is shutting down, but not manually or automatically while he's online.

I've tried numerous ideas to try to get it to work. My next step would be to re-initialize the database and see if that fixes the problem, but I wanted to see if anyone here has any less destructive ideas before I try that.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

We have to Center Unable shares and inclusion file - Files types from Offline Sync remove an issue where Offline Files is synchronising files in Shares B C D We only want synchronisation to occur in Share A Home To date we have tried the following Reformatting the Offline Files database Selecting the option to NOT cache on the share's properties on our File server Added Shares B C D to GPOM as destinations drive letters to not include in Offline Folders rule Added pst extension to the GPOM as a file type to not include in Offline Folders rule Turned off the Slow Link option in GPOM Despite all of these settings being active there are Offline Files - Unable to remove shares and file types from Sync Center inclusion files in B C and D that are still being made available offline After the database is reset and Sync Center is allowed to resync Share A it automatically syncs the exact same files that we do not want So this must be stored in a list associated to a particular user somewhere but we have no idea where to find it we have looked in AppData for multiple users but cannot find what we hope to see in terms of settings for Sync Center or Offline Files I should note that the files in Share B C and D appear to have been accessed in the past where perhaps there once was a Slow Link detected but now Sync Center is constantly including those files for any particular user Example I may have accessed files and during a Slow Link being detected and they always now become available offline for me user accessed files and and so those files for that user are now always being made available We have tried removing the local profile accounts nbsp from the computers but the issue will still persist and the issue will follow users from computer to computer so this list of files that Sync Center is references for offline availability must be stored on the network somewhere I suspect that now the new rules in GPOM are set the issue can finally be resolved by deleting the list of files that Sync Center references for offline availability but does anyone here know where that file would be and what it is called HINT It nbsp isn't on the local computer as we have rebuilt a few Many thanks

Hi All,

At my work a colleague has purchased 3 x ASUS Transformer Books, each of which is loaded with Windows 10 Home edition.

I need to access a file share using each of these Ultrabooks and ideally perform a sync using the offline files feature.*

Does Home edition support connecting to a Domain based file share with the ability to sync data (offline) on the said share?

If this isn't possible what are my options for syncing domain based files with a Home edition of Windows?

Kind Regards,

My PC was originally connected to a network server using Outlook 2000. A year ago I left the firm and moved the PC to my home. The PC no longer connects to that network server. I use a dial up ISP service for email and Outlook worked OK - contacts, calendar, email. Recently, I converted from "Corporate and Workgroup" config to "Internet Only" by following the Microsoft help instructions. The problem is that I have lost my contacts, email and calendar details. The *ost file is still in the outlook directory but I cannot access it. Any ideas? Thanks

did you archive or export to a .pst file before you made the change? You can try importing the .ost file but I think it is the one that speaks with the original exchange server and will not be useable with out it,,,,or so my experience has been in layman terms.

The day after my latest Win 7 Update, I suddenly started getting the error message:

Your offline folder file cannot be configured.

Besides this message, my emails struggle to open, I cannot attach files to outgoing emails, etc. I tried the Recovery function, to take my laptop to a date prior to the Windows Update I did on 5/21, but it couldn't execute for that date, or for prior dates (which may be another separate problem to deal with). I don't know what to do, other than possibly reinstall Office. Advice?

A:Outlook 2007 message: offline folder file cannot be configured

It sounds like something is wonky with your last update. See if you can uninstall it, reboot, and check your Outlook program. If it works properly, you might consider reinstalling the update...or not.

A:Unwelcome Sync.pop Up Offline

Welcome to TSG, FLY90MPH.

To help you identify the source of the problem we need to have a thorough look at your "startup profile". Go to the site below, download, unzip and run Copy and paste the full contents of Startuplog.txt (not stubbpaths.txt) to your next reply.

And if you are not running an updated antivirus scanner, you should do an online scan here:

Since you say these pages are popping up offline, you should also go to Internet Options and delete both the Temporary Internet Cache and its Offline content.

I have a 2003 SBS server and several users all on Windows 7.

One of the users just got a new Sony laptop with Windows 7 Pro, his existing laptop was also Windows 7 Pro.

I am trying to make same file share available offline again and the files sync with no errors in sync center. But when the user goes offline all the files have a red X and the files are partially transparent.
All the KB's and threads I can find involved people getting access denied errors, but I'm getting no sync errors.

Any ideas?
I tried formatting the offline files database earlier and I made a dozen files available offline. No errors but again red x's when he went offline.

Just wondering if there are any suggestions regarding a sync problem I am having. Up till now, I have been able to do seamless sync between my laptop (Vista ultimate) and my desktop (vista home). Recently it has stopped working, except where I sync individual files.
e.g. if I create a file offline on the laptop, I get a sync error when I reconnect to the network. It says "assertion failure" in sync centre. Same happens when I select the folder and manually press sync. However, if I rightclick the file and press sync, it syncs fine. This happens even where this is the only file in the folder, which suggests that there is something different between folder permissions and file permissions. However, haven't made any changes to permissions etc. recently and all file permissions are inherited from the parent folder anyway.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi nbsp I've got a laptop user with a Windows x Pro I've defined a folder on our R file server for his use as the primary storage location on the user's machine I've mapped the network location to a drive of his work files I then went ahead and marked that folder as 'Always available offline' and made sure that the first sync was completed I've created a sync schedule through the Sync Center Over time the size grew to be around GB of small files mostly documents and presentations The problem While running the sync an error occurs access is denied on one of the inner folders It seems that once the error is encountered the entire sync Files: stopped first Offline after error sync is halted The affected Offline Files: sync stopped after first error folder does not have explicit permissions I've checked both locally and on the file server and is inheriting the rest of the NTFS permissions from the root Offline Files: sync stopped after first error folder The folder can be accessed from the file explorer of the user's machine Moreover when I enter the Properties of the folder switching to the 'Offline Files' tab and click 'Sync Now '' the sync continues as expected The question What is the expected behavior Should the sync process stop once an error is encountered If so Offline Files: sync stopped after first error what can be the cause of the 'Access Denied'

Had the same problem few months back . In the end had to reinitialize the offline files cache all together:

Open up registry editor (WARNING: Only for Advanced Users)
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Csc
Add a new key (folder) called Parameters
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Csc\Parameters, add a new DWORD called FormatDatabase and set its value to 1

You will need to reboot the PC afterwards.

I have several windows 7 computers networked on a LAN without a server - just workgroups. I do use one computer to "serve" shared folders though. I use Offline Files to keep files on a wireless laptop synchronised with the "server" and centralise all backup activities on the "server". I want to enable Background Sync and Transparent Caching for a more stable setup although these options appear to only be available to domains. Is there any way I can enable these options without setting up a full server and domain? Thanks

It reads as though it does:

The Windows 7 Offline Files feature allows you to keep on your computer, copies of files normally stored on the network. When you select a network file or folder to make available offline, Windows automatically creates a copy of that file or folder on your computer.
Anytime you reconnect to that network folder, Windows syncs the files with those in the network folder. You can also sync them manually at any time.

So my question is: If you put the exact same files on two network computers with Offline Files turned on, will they sync when you open a file? Or does one have to be a file server for it to work?

A:Does Offline Files sync between network computers?

Hello Greg,

In this case with 3 networked computers, the two separate network computers (ex: A & B) would only sync with the source network computer (ex: C) of the offline files, and not each other directly. They (A & B) would evently be synced though since the are both syncing with C.

Because I didn't think so, but now it seems maybe they do:

Windows 8.1 .bat file glitched

The only thing I can think of is that this person was using an MS account and had Synced his Settings including File Associations, so that when he did a Fresh Install of Windows 8, and logged in with the MS account, it ruined his File Association. We've tried everything to set the association to default, but maybe the OS is resetting it to what it was when it was Synced.

Anyone concur? Because I never thought File Associations were being synced, if this is the case it would explain a few unsolvable problems that have cropped up lately.

Recently a coworker was trying to CUT/PASTE files from their My Documents folder to another location. During the procedure our file server crashed and shutdown. Their My Documents folder is a re-directed and synchronized folder.

I was able to restore the users entire home drive from the previous nights backup to another location. To date the user has been working from this secondary location but wishes to have all the files moved back to their My Documents so that synchronization can occur for offline access.

I am unsure of how to go about doing this safely.

I'm thinking that I should re-initialize the users Offline Cache and Database first, delete what is in My Documents now, and then copy the restored data back to My Documents. Then, at that point in time re-enable offline files and perform a sync.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

well found on the net that it should be possible (Win 8 off course) to sync a folder or more between 2 computers, but when i try to do this, it does not work.

Am not interested in Skydrive, used it, do not like it.

Am not interested to buy or use freeware to do so, since Win 8 offers this in the software, but has anyone been able to get this working?

Apparantly this should be possible in both directions.

Up until now, I've synced my music folders between my stationary computer and laptop through dropbox (I have over 60GB space). But I feel that there must be a better way to do it, without syncing through the internet.
Basically what I want is to have the music files saved locally on both computers, but any change in one folder will be synced to the other, is it possible to do this in Windows 7 without any 3rd party apps?
I did try setting up a Homegroup, but I'm not sure that my computers are connected. My stationary computer doesn't read wi-fi, but is connected to a router which is connected to a wi-fi-router which my laptop is connected to, so technically they should be connected? Hey people.

Im after trying to sync a folder from my laptop to a network share on a windows 2003 file server. Not exactly sure how to go about doing it. I would like files to sync both ways so any changes i make to the folder on my laptop get applied to the share on my file server and any changes to the share on the file server are applied to the file on my laptop.

I had a look at sync centre which i believe is 7's version of offline files. I made a test share on my file server and set it to "Always Available Offline"

Now where do i go from here? Is it just a case of setting the foder on my laptop to point towards the network share?

Any help would be great

A:Sync Folder with a network share

Well this isn't exactly automatically sync but...

You can use robocopy

I uploaded the .exe here

2shared - download robocopy.exe

Just make the following .bat file

@echo off

robocopy "C:\users\tom\desktop" "F:\desktop" /mir /s

echo Backup Complete

In case you're wondering the destination folders don't create themselves.. < yes, i've had people who told me the script was not working but only because they did not create the destination folder>

It will only take long the first time you copy the files then you can just update the network drive automatically by running the bat file.

Guess if you want you can set it to run at shutdown / startup that way, nothing to worry about.

It's not THE solution. But it could work

Hi. Calm down! I guess you just changed from iPhone to Android phone not long ago? Once you plug in your Android, you should see a portable device folder where you can manage all the files in your Android. If this doesn't work, there are also many desktop syncing programs just like iTunes, such as iTools, Apowersoft Phone Manager, MobileGo, etc. However, personally, I would recommend you to use wireless apps like AirMore for managing Android files on web or Pushbullet for transferring files in a fast way.

My problem is now I'm dealing with folders that contain 10-30GB's. Briefcase begins to scan for differences and quickly shuts down.

Good evening all: I have a video folder that is quite large and I don't want to lose the files in it. I copied the folder to a separate drive but the drive is small(160GB) and will not allow me to copy the folder twice to it. I add more files to the original folder and when I go to coy/backup I end up having to delete the folder on the separate drive so the original folder with new files will fit. My question is: Is there a way of 'Syncing' the folders so only the new files are copied? Or should I use Windows Backup just for this folder? Thank you in advance.

A:Sync/Copy huge folder

Since video files(video captures mainly) tend to chew up drive space fast I made sure I had large storage as well as large OS drives when first putting the present case together. It won't take long to fill up a small drive when you keep adding new files however.

Even with the 1tb dirves in use here the oldest files are deleted to make room for the new after so long to avoid crowding. For keeping a growing number of files for lengthy periods of time if all are the same type you would still use one main folder possibly with a few sub folders to keep the new and old separated rather then having two root folders for the same.

To keep the oldest indefinitely then you have to start looking at increasing the overall storage capacity of the secondary storage drives internal or external in order to still be able to add new files as you go along. At some point however the files will still be more then the total storage capacity where some will simply have to go or be burned to removable media in dvd form.

What periodic scheduled backups will do is simply add the new with the old files as you go along by overwriting the existing files in the same folder with the same plus add the new in at the same time. Simply copying each new file over to the folder on the other drive will see that done.

Once all the latest files are backed up there you simply start nuking the older files from the C drive to avoid running out of space fast and seeing things like the "out of memory" error when there's not enough room for the paging file to be created. But 160gb is "tiny" when considering what you are trying to back up! Even a 500gb drive can fill rather quickly.

I frequently take an image of the system drive as a backup but, with an ever increasing offline folder (windows\csc), this is getting unworkable so I want to move the folder to my data drive (D:\).

I've tried using a symbolic link to a folder on the C drive (as I've successfully done with the OneDrive folder) but win10 seems to object and stops working.

Surprisingly, with google there's loads of references to doing this with previous versions of windows but I can't find anything Win10 specific. Does anybody know of a reliable way of relocating the csc folder?

I would agree that having a cloud storage would be nice should the office server go down. You do know that you don't have to sync the entire share folder and programs right? You can sync just individual files that are actually being used and changed. As far as extra storage goes, no need to tote around an external HD. Why not get a couple USB 3.0 flash drives or sdcards? And I really do mean get 2-3, just in case one should fail you have some kind of a backup. You can never rely on a single backup.

I recently moved to a 2TB striped raid setup, replacing a setup where i had several independent disks, many with backups of my important files. Now everything is on the raid setup and i fear that if it fails i'd lose everything, much of which goes back up to a decade.

What I'd like to do is have my 'My Documents' folder mirrored onto an external drive. In the past I'd copy stuff manually, but I have 150+Gb of stuff in there and it's time consuming having to routinely overwrite everything each time i backup, especially since very little may have changed or been added since i last did it.

If I had some sort of mirror or sync set up then it would just replace or update changes I have made to my files.

How would I go about this?

A:How do I set up a sync between my documents folder and a spare drive?

SyncBack gets mentioned often here.

Myself, I just use a batch file and robocopy, then run it as a scheduled task each day.
Set _Src=%Userprofile%\Documents
Set _Dest=G:\Backups\DeLorean\Documents
Robocopy "%_Src%" "%_Dest%" /R:2 /W:5 /SEC /E /XO %*

/R Number of retry attempts
/W Time to wait between retries
/SEC Copy with security, copies Data, Attributes, Timesatamp, and Security info (ACL List)
/E Include subfolders
/XO Exclude older files
%* This lets you add switches from the command line.
Handy to specify /L to just list files and not actually copy.

Save as backup.bat for example.
Open a command prompt, navigate to the folder you saved backup.bat in, and type:
backup.bat - will copy files
backup.bat /L - will just list but not copy

Once a week add /purge ( or create a 2nd task) to delete files from the backup that no longer exist on the PC.

Hi everyone,

If installed on PC, Google Drive syncs the contents of the Google Drive folder to the cloud automatically.

I want a continuous backup to specific folders on my PC, say "Uni Stuff" and "Music" (different locations).

That requires GDrive to perceive the two folders as the original GDrive folder. I'm guessing it's possible.
The reason I don't want to just copy the stuff I want to backup, into the GDrive folder, is because it creates an actual copy on my physical HDD. That takes up lots of space.
Is there a way to do it?

Forgive me for being naive but are you sure you have the actual folders on the desktop and not just a link to them on the C drive? have you tried renaming the one with the lost contents to it's old name? If they are the actual folders did they get moved or just copied, have you checked to see if they are still on the C drive? If the contents have got deleted you would have surely got a message "Do you want to delete etc". Have you checked the recycle bit?

Hey Guys,

I've got a problem getting offline folder permissions to stick after restarts in our domain. Here's what I do:

Go to MMC>shared folders>shares>C$ (as an example)>properties>offline settings> and then I change "only files and folders users specify..." to "All files...". Apply and done.

It works like a champ for what I'm trying to do (enable Restore Previous Versions of files to actually work- I learned that RPV fix from another thread here at seven), but after each restart the settings are restored to default. I'm assuming there's a group policy I can implement that'll auto-set those permissions permanently but I can't find any 'offline' shared folder permissions options anywhere. Thanks for any help.

A:GP for permanently changing shared folder offline permissions?

Sorry, forgot to mention the environment. We're running 100% Windows 7 workstations and an SBS 2011 server.

The whole point of my question is to ultimately enable a WORKING 'restore previous versions' feature for each workstation across the domain. As far as I can see, after much testing, with the setting I'm trying to permanently enable turned on, restore points actually do back up files for RPV... and with it off, RPV is totally useless on every workstation.

Hi Everyone,

Hopefully someone can help me. I want to move the OneDrive folder from the default C:\Users\UserName\OneDrive to D:\Users\UserName\OneDrive.

I go to properties, location & click on move & navigate to the new location. A few seconds later, it shows it copying files.

The problem is after I let it re-sync, check for changes, etc, the OneDrive folder in Explorer shows no files.

If I tell it to set it back to the default location (C drive), the files appears again.

Is there a fix to this?

Thanks in Advance

Hi all,

I am using mail app on windows 8.1. It was working fine in the morning. But few hours ago I noticed that it shows my drafts folder empty and the interface has also changed a bit.

I did not update anything at all. My automatic update setting is off. I have synced it a lot of times. It shows my emails from all other folders but not from drafts. And it is not like it can't do it. Until yesterday, I was being able to view the drafts seamlessly. It just happened now.

Could you please help me resolve this issue?

Thank you,

my scenario is this i have a windows 7 laptop that i connect my iphone to upload pics from to the laptop so that i can keep my iphone free of space. is there a way when i make this change to have the picutres folder on the windows 7 laptop to sync to my server 2003 on the network to the external drive that is connected to it? i can use My BE 2010 software but that wouldnt work because i would have to follow a sceduled backup, my point is when i log into the laptop and move the pics off my iphone i want this folder to sync or backup with the changes to the server and then to the external drive when i connect to my LAN.

A:Software tool that will sync picture folder to EXT drive on server

FreeFileSync will allow you to back up folders to a network location. There is folder monitoring component called RealTimeSync which should give you what you need(caveat: I have not used that component myself). The link is in my sig.

Well I just realized that about half of my life is stored on my hard-drive. I'm backing up with an external HD but being the paranoid I am, if the house is burnt down.. the backup doesn't help much.

Any software that automatically uploads any file that I put in a specific folder to some server? So I can access it from another computer and download the stuff back, just in case.

A:Any Sync software that uploads the files in a folder to an Online server?

You will hardly find a software doing that. But you can always upload it with:

Just write the link to your files somewhere, so that you can download again when you need it.

I've a Windows 7 contacts folder located here: C:\Users\Richard\Contacts
But it is not the same as my Live Mail address book.

My Live Mail Address book has new contacts in it.

1) How do I update the Windows 7 contacts folder?

2) And what is the point of the Windows 7 contacts folder if it doesn't stay in sync with the Live Mail address book?

Regards Richard

A:Windows 7 Contacts Folder and Live Mail Address Book Not in Sync?

The Contacts folder is left over from Window Vista and if you were to go to the trouble of "reinstating" Windows Mail (the previous mail version that came only with Vista) then it would use the Contacts folder. If you have downloaded and installed WLM (a component of Windows Live Essentials) it has its own contacts database within the <user>/appdata folder tree. You can access this database only through the WLM program (and the website if you sign-in since that site mirrors your "signed-in" contacts list). If you don't sign-in then you are viewing your "not-signed-in" contacts list in WLM which is also located in the appdata folder tree. If you have placed any contacts in the old Username/Contacts folder, you can import them into WLM.

I currently have a network setup at home and having been trying to get the file synchronization feature to work (so that I can have the files available offline on my laptop and update the data when I connect with the home computer). My problem is in the inability to make the files/folders unavailable offline.

When in My Computer/Tools/Folder Options menu I don't have the Offline files tab. I have gone into the User Accounts and disabled the Fast User Switch feature (which should have resolved the problem) but I am still unable to get the Offline files tab.

Your help is very much appreciated.

A:Offline File Setup

I believe the "Make Available Offline" option is only accessible from the computer that is expected to be offline on files that are stored remotely.

Additionally, the Offline Files feature isn't available in Windows XP Home, on Pro. Which version do you have?

I take a lot of Digital Photos and I usually organize them in a Photo folder on my extra HDD I have an External HDD that I'd like to use to backup Sync? File On-The-Fly those photos I'm looking for a program that I can use to synchronize the two folders just whenever I feel like it I don't want something in the background ghosting my files I just need to be able to update the folder on my External HDD after a shoot I would just copy them over but I have my photos On-The-Fly File Sync? organized by subject matter so I don't have tons of folders for every shoot I used to do folders by date but it got to hard to find a particular photo On-The-Fly File Sync? because I couldn't remember when I took it Ideally it would be free software Actually it has to be I'm broke P Thanks in advance I honestly wouldn't have to do this if there was a quot No to all quot option when you replace folders with the same name Then I could just drag the photography folder over the other select quot No to All quot and only new files would be copied over Can I not find this or did they not do it in Win I never understood why there was always Yes to All but not No To All

i've been using viceversa pro for several years now. it is by far the best one i've found. it has a ton of options for synching, it's cheap and they have a 64-bit version as well. it recognizes modifications, deletes, additions, etc. so it can synch everything properly.

I have a .wmv file that has video and audio. When I play it, I need to be able to pause the run, talk, then start it again from where it was paused. When I do this on my desktop in Windows media player, nothing strange happens, but on my laptop sometimes when I hit the pause and try to restart it the audio and video are out of sync. Any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it?

I'm finding a number of very frustrating and annoying problems Offline Mis-features File or Bugs with Offile Files amp Folders which I use widely to enable me to work away from home on my laptop and keep my files synchronised with my server The first problem is this When I go to Sync Center and look at the offline files sync status I see a Offline File Bugs or Mis-features screen saying there was one conflict because a file created on the laptop has the same name as a file on the server OK So I right click on this to bring up the resolution box and select quot keep both files quot Now it bizarrely says that it can't resolve the problem in the way I've chosen because it quot can't find the file specified quot What is going on here Why does it think I've created two different files of the same name I don't think I have And why when it then tries to save can it not find one of the files it was previously objecting to See screenshot Second problem one specific file that I've got on my server that's in an quot always available offline quot folder is not visible in Windows Offline File Bugs or Mis-features Explorer on the laptop and when an application tries to access it I get quot Access is denied quot If I disable offline files in Sync Center everything starts working again but if I then re-enable offline files the problem returns It seems to be a problem with a specific file name If I rename the file to something else it then works OK If I then create a new file with the original name it's the new file that causes the problem not the old one What on earth is going on here It's making offline files pretty well unusable Offline File Bugs or Mis-features for some of my work See screenshot of error message when Tortoise SVN tries to use the offending file Thanks for your help - Rowan

I have 2 computers on a peer-to-peer network that use offline folders. I had to change the network-id on both computers and I had to change the name of the computer that the files are sync'd to.
So now when the computer trys to sync, it's trying to sync to the wrong computer name. (has the wrong path now). It use to sync to '\\PC-A\folder\'. But now the PC name is PC-B. So how do I change it to look for '\\PC-B\folder\' instead of '\\PC-A\folder\'

How can I fix this? Do I have to redo the whole process? Or is there a way to just go in and change the computer name in the path so it connects to the right location.

There are allot of files involved. I would hate to have to set it up all over again as it would be a big and long process.
Thanks for any help!
