I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi I m looking for some help diagnosing a flickering screen problem I have with a Sony Vaio laptop So it a diagnosing flickering screen Need issue help s started happening recently when I turn it on it flickers as it turns on then eventually goes all black Sometimes if I close the screen down it comes back on again for Need help diagnosing a flickering screen issue a few seconds When I re-boot again it always has the Need help diagnosing a flickering screen issue same behaviour flickers and then eventually goes black at some stage not Need help diagnosing a flickering screen issue always at the same stage sometimes I might get to log on sometimes not I ve connected to an external monitor and everything works fine For me it s not an inverter issue because I ve seen inverter issues before and it was very consistent behaviour the screen just blacks out consistently and you can see the screen with a torch in this case I can t really see screen with or it s very difficult to If it is ccfl issue I would ve thought that bulb would be gone and that s it it would just never light up One more thing that would indicate ccfl issue to me is if I turn it on and have the screen dimmed to it s lowest it works fine and stays on until I start to brighten it up again and then just goes black Any experts out there can diagnose this for me I m not sure if it is ccfl issue and I don t want to go messing with it I tried to replace a bulb once before and it was a disaster not an easy process for a half amateur compared to replacing an inverter One other point is that there seems to be a problem with the psu like a loose connection and it keeps dropping to the battery nbsp

Short history Built a new rig from parts back in the Spring It's been running beautifully for most of a year Then overnight it started doing something strange When I tried to start up it would hit a BSoD loop If I loaded the Win install disc and Need - Start-Up Mystery Issue Diagnosing Help did nothing with it just restarted from that It would load up fine That went on for about a month Mystery Start-Up Issue - Need Help Diagnosing while I was trying to figure out what the problem was Then the issue shifted The computer started loading directly to the BiOS It recognized that the drives were there in theory but wouldn't start Mystery Start-Up Issue - Need Help Diagnosing the OS I had done several scans and attempted fixes on the OS before this happened not directly before and assumed that this was just an escalation so I decided to cut my losses reformat the partition where the OS was and reinstall Windows I did this reloaded the needed drivers and software for my hardware and everything was fine for a week Then one day the computer started up to the BiOS again This time it didn't detect the HD containing the OS I did some futzing and found that the problem was inconsistent and just swapping cables would sometimes solve it Once it's up and running it has no issues of any kind So here's where I've landed now and I'm thinking it may be hardware related but I'm hoping the smart folks here can help me figure out where the hitch is When I try to start the computer one of things happens The computer goes to BiOS and does not detect the main HD The computer tries to start windows BSoD's and restarts to System Repair After swapping some cables around Computer puts up the WinXP load screen BSoD's and if I restart from the Win install disc the computer will start up fine Once the computer has started up none of the diagnostics are showing a problem When Option goes to System Restore it sometimes decides that the root cause was a quot bad driver quot or else says that it cannot find a problem It can never find a restore point though I've created ones when the computer started up properly It seems like the driver errors are more likely erroneous It seems to make the most sense that the problem is somewhere with the drive the SATA cable handling or mobo but I have no idea what to do to trace the problem from here Any savvy folks around think they have an idea of what's going on

I have an HP laptop WIn 8.1 upgraded from Win 7. Recently I started getting a a msg "preparing Automatic Repair" which switches to "Diagnosing your PC" This will run abt 20 mins or so and go to a screen where I can choose to go to system update and my only real choice is to go to recovery which takes me to the HP RECOVERY MENU where I can do a system restore to an earlier date but when I try I am denied. I can get to a dis prompt but not sure if I can do anything with that. I can also turn it on while pressing ESC and it screams at me but takes me to where I could get to a menu to go to repair but when I click on that option my pc freezes. Is there hope???

A:Major PC issue diagnosing / freezing

Was there any problems with Windows Updates?

When the Automatic Repair pops up, let it run, then afterwards when it says 'automatic repair was unable to repair the computer...', go to Advance options, and do a 'refresh' or 'reset' and then let that process run.

One of my quads died and I've rebuilt it. It has an ASUS Sabertooth, (that is how they spelt sabretooth), Z170 Mark 1 motherboard, a 4GHz i7 CPU, 16GB RAM and a Corsair CX750 PSU, all new, plus the peripherals and case from the pre-existing machine. Power to the PSU, LED on the board glowing. Press power-on, nothing happens. I re-checked the spaghetti of twisted pairs from the front panel in case I'd goofed there, but it looked fine. What do I try next?

Hi,
I had to rebuild my IBM Thinkpad T42 post which it has lost all the network drivers. I do NOT have wireless but have wired broadband. When the network cable is connected, the system fails to identify it. I did download the required drivers but still the same issue. Is the a step by step thing that I need to do in order for the laptop to identify the broadband connection. I appreciate your time and support.
Thanks
Sankara

A:T42 - Network connection issue after rebuild

Look in Device Manager > Network Adapters to make sure there are no errors such as a yellow question-mark (driver missing) or red exclamation mark (wrong driver).

If there is an error, you haven't installed a driver or you installed the wrong one. Laptop drivers must be downloaded from the laptop manufacturer's support website.

Provided the correct driver has been installed for the network adapter, your broadband equipment is switched on and working, and the ethernet cable is not faulty, the laptop should be able to connect to the internet without you having to do anything else.

Hello, i have a Dell studio 1558 windows home premium 64 bit system. It came pre installed last year and so far i've had no issues and haven't needed to re-install the OS. Recently i've been getting blue screen after the laptop freezing for 30 seconds or so then crashing. I saw in the blue screen before it restarted that it's a probable driver issue but if someone could help me find which driver this is i'd be grateful.

I reinstalled my ATI 5470 graphics driver and this didn't solve the issue. I didn't uninstall the last version so i'm not sure if that makes a difference.

I've attached the memory dump files as per the pinned instructions so i hope that's done right.

Cheers for any help.

A:Numerous BSOD probable driver issue

You've got some major hard drive issues going on here.

Are you able to boot into Windows without it crashing?
If you can please run a CHKDSK on your hard drive - Disk Check

Once you've done that run a hard drive scan using Seatools

Run Memtest86 for 7-8 passes - RAM - Test with Memtest86+

There is a lot of other stuff that needs to be done, but if it's a bad hard drive then none of things thing will matter.

A:numerous BSOD with numerous error codes

Hi goetz and Welcome -
The BSODs are well spread out (usually good) so there seems to be no major problem yet.
Your CPU temps are a bit high.
Can you remember the last time you opened the computer and cleaned it for dust etc. Be careful and try this with a brush and very low pressure air.
I know it shows the fans operating, but you may need to clean dust etc out of their filters also.

A first place to start, then please post back.

Thank You -

Hello jfparlaWelcome to BleepingComputer =======================One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan or rootkit. This type of infection has the capabilities to allows hacker to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:How Do I Handle Possible Identity Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall========================Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.Right click on the file and choose extract all extract the file to your desktop then run it.If prompted to restart the computer type in Y then it will restart.Or if you are prompted with a hidden service warning do go ahead and delete it.Once completed it will create a log in your C:\ drivePlease post the contents of that log================Download ComboFix from one of these locations:Link 1Link 2* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your DesktopDisable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our toolsDouble click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts. As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console. **Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

A:Problems after several reinstalls

Mitsy, on the HP Scanner problem (I have a Scanjet 5P) and have run into it deciding it doesn't like me every once in a while...what I have been doing on the last couple of times, is just going into the control panel, changing driver, and make sure it's using the one from Microsoft, and not HP....doesn't make any sense to me, but it seems to make my scanner happy again. Don't know if it'll work for you, but I guess it's worth a try.

I think HP has detailed uninstall instructions on their website it you need to reinstall the Picture Scan software. Also, I'm using version 2.9 of the Deskscan, you might see if you are using the most current one.

Hi everyone. A couple weeks ago, a friend told me that after so many reinstalls of my XP Pro, I'd have to buy a new license from Microsoft. Basically, I'd have to buy XP Pro all over again. My XP Pro came with my computer when I bought it from the college and I've reinstalled XP Pro about 3 or 4 times due to various problems. Anyway, I may have to reinstall XP again in the future sometime but now I am afraid to do so for fear that I'll have to dish out a few hundred dollars just to put XP back on my computer! And believe me, I don't have that kind of money! Anyway, is this true???

I installed Terminal services for windows 2000 on some Windows 2000 advanced servers (sp2) in remote administration mode. But now everytime I run the add remove utility for adding or removing any program, it shows 0.9 MB remaining to install and then the Terminal services reinstalls. Is it a bug or did I do something wrong. The program is working fine by the way.

I remove Ebates Mo Money Maker, Bargain Buddy, and Lycos Sidesearch. I run ad-aware and spybot, and both clean my system, and say it's all clean. Then, I open Internet Explorer and I see the working-in-background cursor hourglass, and then they're all back again. I tried reinstalling IE6, but that didn't seem to help.

EDIT: removed garbagio.

Hi.
I got this problem with a computer after it changed over to XP, from Vista. This computer has 4 GB RAM, Good Cpu etc etc. Ive checked the hardware myself to see if any parts is broken, but they are not.
Mainly, the problem is that it gets bluescreen every time it tries to load games, living pictures etc. Ive now tried to re-install 3 times, and ive also had my brother over (Witch is licenced from Microsoft) to look at it, and he told me to ask here.

So, my question is... Whats up?!

Hi, an extension called BuyyNsave keeps re-installing itself on Chrome every time i restart the computer. I have used adwcleaner and malwarebytes to no avail. I think the extension might be related to a program i uninstalled called YooutubeAoDblocke. i think this program must still be on my computer because when i went to uninstall it from the programs list, it popped up a message that said it couldnt find any files to uninstall, and asked me "do you want to remove it from the programs list?", which i clicked ok.

Can someone move this to virus support please?

I had some guys help me get rid of a virus a few weeks back. But it came back for some reason. My restore points gone, my diagostic tools not working again. When i click on it to do something the blue circle just spins for up to a minute if not more. Sometimes for so long i just shut down the computer and try restarting in safe mode.
In safe mode it runs ok, sometimes a lil laggy.
Btw its an HP Pavillion d7.

OT have you tried going thru the ropes of what we did last time? I added the link so you could see it again, or do you want to just go thru the steps again in this thread, since, of course, the thread is a bit mixed up?

I have an IBM Aptiva 2198-964 with an IBM 2235 C50 monitor. Had a weird experience. After rebooting by CAD during bootup and the windows 98 SE screen the computer hesitated and then came up with " installing generic monitor" message and proceeded to install a driver. After completion all appeared OK. I went o MY computer, Control Panel, Display and went to installing/changing driver for the 2235 C50 monitor. Was informed that the optimum driver was installed. Everything seems fine, but I am uneasy. Any idea what occurred?

First of all a warm greeting to everyone around as I've just finished creating my account and joining the community As the title states I have an issue I am not able to clear up for myself and couldn't seemingly find anything related on Google on the subject I've just finished building my new rig a couple of weeks back and have become overly excited about the whole thing which caused me to mess around with my Windows installation tweaking and installing all sorts of monitoring optimization software which in the end rendered the system a bit unstable and I decided to perform a clean re-installation The process didn't go so well as I clumsily installed it on the wrong drive due to exhaustion and had to delete install it on the proper one SSD SSHD config Yet another few days later on I wanted to try out my old Windows Ultimate OS on the rig but was unhappy with it and reinstalled yet again Now finally unto my question do the multiple installations re-installations of the Windows OS affect the overall stability or snappiness of a system or perform excessive wear on the storage drivers I admit I am somewhat of a perfectionist and OS question multiple reinstalls about Stability ending up installing Windows so many times on a new machine has me a bit worried Of course I do not plan on keeping this up in the future just on a need-to basis My storage configuration is a GB Samsung EVO SSD for OS purposes and a TB Seagate SSHD for mass storage and Stability question about multiple OS reinstalls my Operating System I am and plan to be using is Windows bits Also the system is performing exceptionally well at the moment so my question is more theoretical in nature I suppose Thanks in advance and excuse my wall of text on the subject

A:Stability question about multiple OS reinstalls

It wont cause any "excessive wear on the storage drivers" or "affect the overall stability or snappiness of a system"as all your doing is writing to the drives but you could run into problem with other things if your doing upgrade rather than clean installs eg with driver conflicts why dont you use a virtual machine or dual boot your system if you want to be switching between different OS's I would say use a virtual machine if you want to keep tweeking the system that way if you mess it up its not a big thing and once you have it tweeked just the way you want it you can then make it into an ISO and install it as a main OS

There is only one crash dump in the zip. It is not enough to decide what is going on over that long time as you are explaining, still ......

Please disable XMP in the BIOS at the first place. Let the RAM run at 1333 MHz. Let us see any further crash dump after doing that.

A:Windows reinstalls my HD Audio drivers...

My usual solution to this type of problem is to remove ALL instances of the device, then boot to Safe Mode and enable 'Show hidden devices', then remove any remaining ones, and any yellow- or red-flagged devices, then reboot to Normal Mode, and let Windows sort itself out.
That seems to work about 9 time out of 10

I've reinstalled FF3.6.9 numerous times all with the same result - IT'S BACK

Any ideas appreciated

I do not want that beta!!

A:removed firefox 4.0 beta 11 but it reinstalls itself

Follow the steps in this article:
Go back to an old version of Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

However, if you dislike firefox 4 so much, you should be aware that Firefox 4 will be released soon, so it's possible your browser will autoupdate to the latest version once it is released. Also, Firefox 3.6.13 is the latest full release, rather than the version you have been trying to install.

Hello I'm having a persistent problem with a tablet I bought from ebay that arrived only a few days ago OS windows It seems randomly files start to disappear in particular the user profile folder goes missing and login in non-safemode is no longer possible quot could not log you in the user profile could not be found quot and logging in to safe mode confirms that the files are missing I ran HDTune health check and CHKDSK with a thorough scan and no errors were found on the hard drive so behaviour Rootkit-like persistent across reinstalls I assume Rootkit-like behaviour persistent across reinstalls it is a software problem As a side effect all shortcuts in the Start menu except for quot Solitaire quot disappear After a few more minutes Solitaire disappears as well Here's the funny part - I reinstalled Windows a total of three more times now to attempt to get rid of this problem and it's still there The second-to last install was like this first boot install AVG free connect to network install windows updates reboot install more updates install additional app from vendor's site HP Quickstart Buttons reboot PROBLEM APPEARS The last install was even simpler first boot connect to network install updates reboot install more updates wait no activity on computer and PROBLEM APPEARS On the last installation I tried running Combofix which did not auto-fix anything I am attaching the log file I looked up most of the objects in the quot recently modified quot section and they seemed to be legitimate Windows components I also tried running Sophos Anti-Rootkit which failed with an error in initializing its driver What I'm going to try now is to connect the computer directly to my Internet connection not my local network and download updates after which I will wait and see if the problem appears If that fails I will just reinstall and wait with my computer on without applying any updates to see if the problem appears I'm also thinking of using the BIOS utility that wipes the hard drive before the next install though I am not sure if that would do anything more than deleting and recreating the partition in Windows' setup does Can anyone please suggest what other steps I might take to diagnose and solve this problem Thank you very much for reading this Adi

Hi guys,

Bought a Asus m2n-sli deluxe and a athlon x2 3ghz 90nm from a random guy online with a money order

At first i was running linux with no apparent issues both of my 2gig sticks were working.. ..

My first try with 7 gave me random memory stop errors but i found pulling one of my memory sticks made it completely stable.. Untill my wonderful 5 year old DEER psu decided to start killing hard drives one by one. After loosing a brand new HDD to it i tested my system with my older 20 pin antec and it booted (unlike my earlyer m2n basic for whatever reason)

Now im getting random stop errors again mostly memory management and irq. I've ran memtest for 24h with no errors Not sure where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,

Yesterday, I used Revo Uninstaller to remove McAfee. I used the advanced mode to get all the deeply embedded pieces of it. But today, when I check the Task Manager, I saw a bunch of McAfee programs running in the background. It doesn't appear that they're taking up any resources, but I am disturbed that this program would reinstall parts of itself, and I want to get rid of them.

I found them under Programs>Common Files, but when I try to delete them, it says I don't have access. I am the administrator and have made sure that I have administrator privileges, but still these files won't let me delete them. At this point, I'd say McAfee is a virus in itself! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Try Hitting your Windows key +R then type msconfig , then go to your Services Tab, and Turn off any service that is linked to McAfee. Then Reboot your computer, and try to delete those files again.

I reformatted the hard drive and began again. Once I get to the point where Windows 7 is pretty much up-to-date with bug-fixes (over 100 of them!), and MS Office is installed, the BSOD's start up again - fast and furious. I can tell my computer has a hard time starting up cold - the hardware needs to warm up a bit before things are happy. But I'm not sure that explains why Win 7 is so undependable. Any ideas, anyone?

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 0000000080050033
Arg3: 00000000000006f8

Hi,

How many times can I install using my purchased Win8 Pro 64 (for OEM software) DVD?

I installed it first as dualboot with Xp then unistalled it using EasyBCD & reformated its partition.

I tried to reinstall it again with same DVD but, after entering the the 5 sets of ID & click on install a notice says remove from drive & reboot to XP.

Any ideas of how to go about reinstalling w8?

A:Win8 pro64 (for OEM software) how many reinstalls possible

I assume you are talking about system builder software installed under the personal use license. One owned machine at a time. Reinstall on as many owned machines as you want one at a time. Reinstall on a single owned machine regardless of how many times, and in what ways, its hardware is changed as many times as you want. Transferrable to another, but you must forego use.

Someone who knows what to do given dual booting with XP will come along. Haven't used XP in so long I will pass on answering.

hi -- i m thinking of rearranging how Questions rearranging os reinstalls about / partitions i ve got the hard drives set up on my pc and have a few questions about how to do it and its Questions about rearranging partitions / os reinstalls potential implications i d appreciate it if any of you could offer any thoughts advice on this the pc win xp msi kt ultra mobo athlon has hd s -- the c is a gb with one partition and about gb free and the e is a gb with about gb free i think i made a mistake when i built it in that i should ve created multiple partitions on the c drive first of all becaue i d now like to install linux and have the machine be dual boot and secondly it s starting to seem to me that it d be wise to have one partition or maybe even one physical hd devoted specifically to being the system drive where only windows resides amp nothing else my thinking in this is that if you start having system or drive problems that would require windows to be reinstalled you d only have to mess with one partition and could maybe -- i m not sure about this leave your installed programs amp other files alone on the othr partitions it seems like having to transfer all your files over and reinstall all your software would be by far the worst part about needing to reinstall windows so here are the specific questions is this assumption i m making about reinstalling windows correct is it really possible to reinstall windows into one partition amp have the new install work correctly with the programs amp files from the old install residing on other partitions or do you always have to manually reinstall all software whenever the os is reinstalled can the quot program files quot folder in windows reside on a different partition than windows itself is there any way to save settings amp preferences from one installation of windows like a quot preference settings backup quot onto a cd so that you could recreate the look amp feel of your old windows installation into the new one like carrying over your old desktop wallpapers windows sound effects shortcuts etc are there any freeware partitoning utilities out there that are decent partition magic is the only partiton utility i m aware of at this point i know it s not freeware since the system s now working fine amp i ve got some available space on the e drive would it be advisable to temporarily move all the stuff now on the c drive to the e and then repartition the c drive amp then move things back to the new partitions on the c would windows tolerate being moved around like that i don t even know if it s possible in the first place sorry if these are loony stupidly novice questions but i d appreciate any info you could offer and i know -- quot if it ain t broke don t fix it quot i m just starting to worry that maybe having all my eggs in one basket partition-wise is a disaster waiting to happen if i ever should encounter serious system problems had some modem problems recently and at least one guy mentioned the dreaded quot windows reinstall quot as a potential fix that s what got me thinking more about this thank you nbsp

A:Questions about rearranging partitions / os reinstalls

1 windows will look for registery files for programs
2 you don't even need the(programs folder)thats a default.
there is software out there that will still put stuff in a folder, that, you will have no control over.
some windows applications won't allow you to put them anywhere else, but in main directory
3 yes you can do an image of the system only
store it on hard drive and when you are ready install to the partition
MS has a utility that makes migration easyer for some (free) I don't use it
4 I use Acronis drive image software.don't know of any freeware
Seagate offers a frees copy drive utility I have added new drive copyed C:\
and following instructions removed old drive and booted fine from new one
they say it doesn't work with scsi ,but I did bothe iede and scsi with it.
5 there are some files and apps that you can not access this way and thay will not copy over.
this is the best of my know how remember wrong answers are free :monkey:

If you space out like I did and toss your Microsoft-issued product key for the official Windows 7 beta (Build 7000), then reinstall the original beta or one of the leaked, later versions only to realize that you need the product key to activate your new installation:

Don't Panic!

Just click here and Microsoft will retrieve your product key for you to activate your installation. (Requires log in to Windows Live.)

A:Retreiving Your Beta Product Key to Activate Reinstalls

My key is getting rejected. I have Build 7068 and installed premium version as clean install.
Though as RC1 may be close it probably does not matter. Fixed it by running the Anytime Upgrade and using the key for that.

Hi, I want to do a system recovery because WIndows 7 has accumulated some errors that prevent me using some programs and I was wondering if: 1: The system recovery reinstalls original BIOS or not  ? The reason why it is so important for me to know is because i upgraded to a graphics card that required a BIOS update, getting only a black screen otherwise... According to the info on system recovery it says it reinstalls hardware drivers so I am expecting that to include the BIOS but just wanted to be sure... 2+3: There is a BIOS update for my PC under windows 8 options that says once installed, it cannot be reverted to a previous version.  Will system recovery still be able to rewrite the BIOS to a previous one? If I install that BIOS version, will it cause problems for my windows 7 system recovery ? Thanks for your attention !!!

JoaoM System Recovery only affects the contents of the hard drive; it has nothing to do with the BIOS.

I have google chrome. There is a Tiny Wallet Extension that is in chrome. I have deleted it and disabled it several times. Then, every time I re start Chrome, it is Back!! Help Please????

A:Extension in chrome reinstalls itself when I disable and delete it.

Please download AdwCleaner and save the file to your Desktop.
Right-Click AdwCleaner.exe and select Run as administrator to run the program.
Follow the prompts.
Click Scan.
Upon completion, click Report. A log (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open. Briefly check the log for anything you know to be legitimate.
Ensure anything you know to be legitimate does not have a checkmark, and click Clean.
Follow the prompts and allow your computer to reboot.
After rebooting, a log (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open. Copy the contents of the log and paste in your next reply.

Taskman.exe and regedit.exe exist, both exist and have date of 4/14/2008 at 5PM, and lots of other weird files exist.

How can I delete this stuff?

A:Multiple Crashes On New Build Despite Three Reinstalls Of Windows

My best guess is defective motherboard, memory, hard drive (or SSD), or power supply problem.

Run a disk check with error correction in Windows.

Try memtest86+ (probably best on one chip at a time, but also have to check all slots used).

If you are plugged into a surge protector or power strip try plugging in directly to a wall outlet. Make sure the circuit is not overloaded with an air conditioner or freezer or somthing.

I have been getting BSoDs for the past month. Viewing Flash videos will BSoD the computer. Worse yet, the crash dump never goes through, though it does mention the Nvidia driver. After much trial and error, I have determined that:
They only happen when Flash is installed.
Gaming is completely unaffected. Testing on 3DMark's Cloud Gate shows the GPU is fine.
Reinstalls don't fix the problem. Neither does updating the GPU driver.
I'm tempted to get a "Flash repair kit" program, but I need your input before I do so. Is this a good idea?

A:Flash-related BSOD; reinstalls do not work

Hi

Welcome to the Bleeping Computer forum.

We need to collect some basic info to analyze and find the reason behind the crashes. So please follow the below steps.

Post the full spec or model number of your Laptop\PC

Open C:\Windows\Minidump folder. Copy and  zip the entire contents of that folder and upload to any free file hosting site of your choice. You may have to disable UAC to copy them.

Example file hosting sites :

https://www.box.com/

http://www.mediafire.com/

http://www.sendspace.com

Post the download link to the dumps in next reply.

Generate a report about your system using Speccy by reading the guide below. Make sure to run the Speccy after running the system about one or more hour. This will give us an indication of current CPU -GPU temperature status.

   http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/323892/publish-a-snapshot-using-speccy/

Post the web link displayed by Speccy in next reply.

Download and run Minitoolbox from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

-List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
    -List devices
-List users, partition and memory size

Now click "Go" and post the output in next reply  (or upload the result.txt with dump files)

I am running XP on a 1.4 Ghz clone, and use Office 2000. I installed - it all went well, excepot that every time I try to open Word, it prepares to install and then configures MS Office SR-1 Small Business. Word then runs. If I don't have the SR-1 disk in the drive, it asks me for it a bunch of times and then runs Word anyway. How can I get it to install and configure once and for all? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:MS Office 2000 reinstalls on starting Word

I have had similar probllems with Office and other programs. The way I work around is to copy the disk to Administrators desk top and run it from there. You should be offered a repair option, run that. Then just leave the files there, only admins will see them. When a new or different user logs on and tries to use Word or some such Office App., the files are there.

I have a leveno ideacentre and the screen is busted so it thinks it is getting random inputs all over all the time. I use an alternate monitor and just want to use this as a regular pc, not a touch pad
I can manage to get into device manager and 1) disable HID-compliant devices (9) and HID compliant consumer control devices (2) and the touch bubbles go away. However if I reboot the bubbles come back as the system somehow auto fixes itself.
I'm not sure if its a default program installed or what so whatever suggestions or help you guys can offer would be awesome!
Thanks

As said in the title, I have a computer with an issue, and that issue is that it cannot install any updates what so ever, even after re-installing Windows multiple times, even after applying a lot of fixes, it won't install any updates! It has run Windows update overnight for 2 days, nothing downloaded/installed either. It finds the updates, it lists them aswell, but Windows Update won't download them or anything. If you go to update history it will just say "Failed" on all updates.

Each one of them did not find any infections whatsoever, however, when I tried to delete the registry key from Hkey_Current_User\Software\TrustIn, the spyware seems to have an automatic execution from the registry that I have deleted, which the program reinstalled itself again, can anyone help to solve this problem? How can I delete the entry without the program(Trust Cleaner)reinstalls again? I have tried deleting the registry key in safemode, however when I switched back to normal mode, Trust Cleaner appeared again. With Norton antivirus 2006 and spyware doctor 3.8 and xoftspy4.22, they can find the infection but not in the registry key, therefore I need help for cleaning this infection!! Any idea?

I'm visiting a friend who has resorted to reinstalling Windows 7 64 bit every time his installation was corrupted by malware. His root drive is filling up with Windows files in multiple directories:
C:\Users - Created 7/14/2009, Modified 2/18/2015
C:\Windows - Created 7/14/2009, Modified 2/19/2015
C:\Windows.old (with its own Users and Windows subfolders) - Created 6/18/2014, Modified 6/17/2014
C:|Windows.old.000 (with its own Users and Windows subfolders) - Created 2/18/2015, Modified 2/19/2015

He also has a RECOVERY Drive with a Windows folder with its System 32 subfolder with 11/9/2009 Date Modified.

Can he safely delete the Windows.old and Windows.old.000 folders without impacting his system?

Any direct advice and/or referral to guidance is appreciated.

A:[SOLVED] Long Error Message, And Then Needing Reinstalls

Hi Docdocgoose

Some questions:
1) Does it at any point give a message the says "Recovery has failed"?
2) Was if a full "factory original" restore - or a customer-saved restore?
3) Do you know if the wireless LAN switch was set to the ON position during the restore?
4) What type of Recovery Disks / Operating System disks are at-hand?
5) Are there recent, known-good backups of important data?
6) Is the laptop still under warranty?

This looks like an Hp/Compaq sort of error. Their recovery program has been know to have trouble when the wireless LAN switch is set to the OFF position during a restore. Another known issue with their recovery program concerns the failure of drivers to install correctly - due to hardware firmware updates that have been installed since the computer was purchased. The firmware updates can cause the recovery process to complain with an error message.

If all important data is already backup up:
It shouldn't hurt to try the recovery again. Before beginning, make sure that the wireless LAN switch is set to ON. Also, if a dialog box with an error mentioning a driver appears offering the options "Details". "Retry", & "Neither" = try the option "neither", and let the recovery process continue to the next step. The driver for the device that had trouble installing during the recovery process can be found & installed later. In such cases, updated drivers are generally available on the Hp/Compaq support website.

Note that some models had an issue with the recovery system bad enough that Hp has to send a special Recovery Disk for the recovery to finish well. Recovery Error Message Displays When Using Recovery CD/DVD - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Check the support webpages for the make/model of the problem PC, and look for a section that mentions "Known Issues'. (hp.com covers both Hps & Compaqs nowadays).

Hope it goes better

Hello.

Ok, here is the problem. In the past 5 months for these reasons I've had to either emergency repair, HD partition whipe, or install over it:

Tried installing some of the networking software that isn't with the standard install.

Once while installing a screensaver.

Once after I tried to reboot after installing an update to OS.

All of these resulted in hanging of startup and cause me to do one of the three things above. Anybody got any possible reasons why this would happen?

One more thing, I need a replacement for Cnet's Catchup service. Anybody know of any?

Thank You.

Hi I previously had Office Access 2003 Registry - Every Problem? Time Reinstalls XP installed via Group Policy on several workstations and for various reasons outlined elsewhere on the site I upgraded to Office At the time I upgraded I didn t know anything about what a Group Policy was our IT Access 2003 Reinstalls Every Time - Registry Problem? guy left the company some time back and as of yet we haven t been able to replace him So when shortcuts to Office XP kept reinstalling itself after every reboot I tried various things to stop it before I learned through this site actually about Group Policies and what actually went wrong The solution by the way was to disable the Group Policy and THEN upgrade to Office We have eight workstations in the office and two were used as guinea pigs On the two test computers I had done full uninstalls and reinstalls prior to finding my solution On the rest I upgraded from the original installs after disabling the group policy When I was finished I installed SP on all workstations On the six upgrades every thing works fine On the two that were done as full installs Access has to reinstall itself every time I open the program up I did some research and found http support microsoft com kb seemed to at least address the problem It gives advice on how to manually change the registry To resolve this problem manually change the registry on the computer where Access does not start as expected To do this follow these steps Click Start click Run type regedit and then click OK Locate and then click the following registry key HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Jet Engines Excel In the right pane right-click win and then click Modify In the Value data box type the following and then click OK C Program Files Microsoft Office OFFICE msaexp dll Note This path is for the default location If the Msaexp dll file is located on another drive or in another folder use the path of the actual drive and folder Exit Registry Editor and then start Access However on the two computers in which I did full installs the quot HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Jet Engines Excel quot doesn t exist It exists on all computers that the upgrade was done on I imagine it has something to do with upgrading from a Group Policy but I m no expert but that doesn t really matter because SP addressed those issues So my question finally is if anyone knows how I can fix this problem on my two guinea pigs Is there a different place I can edit the registry I have a Win file in a quot Engines Sharepoint quot folder but so does the six upgrades Any thoughts nbsp

A:MS Office Word2007 Does not open files properly, even after multiple reinstalls

Try this.

For Microsoft Word, you can try deleting a registry key that’s just used to store some options and preferences and won’t harm anything if deleted. It’s the Word Data registry key and it has been known to cause problems on occasions. If you delete it, it will be recreated when you open Word again the next time.

Word 2007 – HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Office\12.0\Word\Data

After you delete the registry key, please restart the computer and then open Word.

Surveillance software maker Hacking Team has provided its government customers with the ability to infect the low-level firmware found in laptops and other computers that they wanted to spy on.

The company developed a tool that can be used to modify a computer’s UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) so that it silently reinstalls its surveillance tool even if the hard drive is wiped clean or replaced.

UEFI is a replacement for the traditional BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) and is meant to standardize modern computer firmware through a reference specification. But there are multiple companies that develop UEFI firmware, and there can be significant differences between the implementations used by PC manufactures.

Hacking Team developed a method for infecting the UEFI firmware developed by Insyde Software, a Taiwanese company that counts Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Lenovo, Acer and Toshiba among its customers, according to security researchers from antivirus vendor Trend Micro.

Article

A:Hacking Team's malware uses UEFI rootkit to survive OS reinstalls

A Hacking Team slideshow presentation suggests that installing the UEFI rootkit requires physical access to the target computer, but remote installation can’t be ruled out, the Trend Micro researchers said. The fact that is can installed remotely is indeed scary. If it requires physical access then it's something else. Maybe a payload could infect a USB connected to a system and the malware could be installed during the restart or else.To prevent such infections, Trend Micro advises users to enable the UEFI SecureFlash option, to set up a BIOS/UEFI password and to update the firmware to its latest version so that it has the latest security patches. UEFI/BIOS updates are usually distributed by computer manufacturers through their support websites and some of them do fix issues identified by security researchers. This should be done as soon as possible for everyone. I'll do that tonight on my desktop computer and my laptop.

Hi folks

I am having some problems with my PC at home.

When I start it up it just stays on the XP startup screen, the blue line moves across the screen as though everything is fine but nothing else happens. I left it the other day for a good couple of hourse before giving it up as a bad job and turning it off.

I can start the PC in safe mode and it boots up straight away and works fine, so my question is does anybody now what the problem could be and where do I start in safe mode to try and diagnose and then fix the problem?

I am at work now so will not actually be able to try anything on the PC but if people could make some suggestions that would be great.

Thanks

A:help in diagnosing PC.

try defragging your pc in safemode i had the same problem and that helped me but to be honest it could mean loads of different things EG drivers, overheating or viruses

It was working fine yesterday, and then after I defragmented the hard drive, it completely shutdown and won't turn on. I left it alone when it said diagnosing your pc, and it did that all night, it was still going when I woke up. I have no idea what to do to fix this. Please help

A:diagnosing your pc, Help

Why don't we start with you identifying your PC or notebook, with its  complete product number or name. With your notebook, removing the battery and looking into the space where the battery was, you should be able to find a service tag with information specific to your product. Post it here.

got a customer with a

ASUS P5KPL_CM; Bios Version 0608.

Getting ram related bsod's i think but memtest checks out fine

4GB ram 2 x 2GB sticks

attached are the minidumps

any one who can help in narrowing it down will be a legend in my eyes!

A:Need help in diagnosing

It does look like a memory issue to me.

How many passes did you run Memtest86? Be sure to run it for at least 5 passes.

You may also want to do a system files check. Open an elevated command prompt, and run sfc /scannow.

My son and his friend upgraded the cooler on the friend's PC to some uber-mondo Cooler Master. They put everything back together, and... nothing. Monitor doesn't turn on. Worse, no BIOS beeps. The friend says the BIOS did definitely beep before.

Mobo has power. Fans & graphics card have power. Everything looks fine, except it's dead.

Given no BIOS beeps, I suspect either a dead mobo (they had a problem with one of the standoffs and were worried they might have shorted something, but that seems unlikely), or, more likely, they didn't get good thermal contact to the CPU and the CPU (Intel) fried.

Beyond that I don't know how to diagnose it, short of swapping out the mobo and CPU. Anybody have any brilliant ideas?

Thanks!

A:Hijack This log: help diagnosing

Anyone care to help me out?===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take several days, up to more than a week, perhaps less, to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable.Thank you for understanding.Elise - forum moderator

A:Need help diagnosing laptop

intermitant fault could be many things, faulty capacitors, overheating (this one's common for laptops), fluid ingress, a faulty connector, porly seated ram, and the list goes on.

considering it was ok after you removed and replaced the ram that could well be it, but i can only guess.

and YEP, laptops are a pain in the rear end.

Good luck

Hey there my computer is a few months old and I ve been plagued with random system restarts as well as random hangings I ve troubleshooted my PC quite a bit and I would like to see what you guys think My Specs Athlon X K SLI-AM GT MB gb RAM x gb sticks unbranded gb SATA HDD W PSU Zalman fans one on my CPU and one on the GT Both run below on load Running Windows XP bit with SP and updates All drivers are the latest What worries me the most is that the crashes seem totally random I would be playing a game and it would be fine for hours ish but when I play it Would diagnosing this like help problem again some other day it Would like help diagnosing this problem hangs in minutes All these Would like help diagnosing this problem hangings and random restarts do not result in an error in the system log and there are no error messages in Windows when the PC is rebooted either The random hangs deserve a special note because each time it does that I can LITERALLY hear the system stopping eg the sound runs fine then there s a screeching halt to it I have to reboot to fix it This leads me to believe that there may be a bad piece of hardware in there so I ve done a couple of things I ran a Video Card stability test to check if there are no problems with it and it ran fine for hours until the PC itself restarted I m positive that the GT is fine I have done memory tests too using ORTHOS and Prime So far there have been no errors so it cannot be a RAM problem This narrows down the field to the CPU PSU and the motherboard Based on the facts I believe that I may have a faulty PSU but I would like to know what you guys think before I rush out to buy a new one nbsp

For the past few months I have been receiving spam emails that are highly related to my web browsing activity For example if I intensively browse education-related websites I will receive a lot of spam regarding obtaining degrees or taking online classes if I intensively browse job-related websites I receive many emails with titles about job searches or resumes and so on It seems that for the spammers to do something like this they would have to know my email address which must already be available to the entire spamming community since I have been receiving general spam as opposed to the highly targeted spam I described above for some years before starting to receive the highly targeted spam be able to tie my email address to my computer since that is where my web browsing activity is taking place and based on my browsing activity send me spam that is strongly related to such browsing It seems that a piece of spyware installed on my computer would be an efficient way of accomplishing all of these things Perhaps there are other ways such as a network-based method in any case analyzing what possible methods there exist to conduct such activities is far beyond my expertise I thought a local spyware-based infection help possible Need diagnosing method might be plausible which is why I'm posting here Below is my DDS txt log and I've attached the Attach txt file I'm happy to try to get a Kaspersky log if you think that's necessary Thanks for your help DDS Ver - - - NTFSx Run by Owner at on Sun Internet Explorer Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition GMT - AV avast antivirus VPS - On-access scanning enabled Updated DB - F - A -B - A Need help diagnosing possible infection FD D FW Sygate Personal Firewall enabled BE FE -CD B- - A - DB DDB Running Processes C WINDOWS system Ati evxx exe C WINDOWS system svchost -k DcomLaunch svchost exe C WINDOWS System svchost exe -k netsvcs C Program Files Sygate SPF smc exe C WINDOWS system Ati evxx exe svchost exe svchost exe C Program Files Alwil Software Avast aswUpdSv exe C Program Files Alwil Software Avast ashServ exe C WINDOWS system spoolsv exe svchost exe C Program Files Common Files Intuit Update Service IntuitUpdateService exe C Program Files Common Files Microsoft Shared VS Debug mdm exe C WINDOWS System snmp exe C WINDOWS system svchost exe -k imgsvc C WINDOWS Explorer EXE C Program Files Digital Media Reader shwicon k exe C Program Files Synaptics SynTP SynTPLpr exe C Program Files Synaptics SynTP SynTPEnh exe C PROGRA ALWILS Avast ashDisp exe C WINDOWS SOUNDMAN EXE C Program Files ATI Technologies ATI ACE Core-Static MOM exe C WINDOWS Samsung PanelMgr ssmmgr exe C Program Files Alwil Software Avast ashMaiSv exe C Program Files Alwil Software Avast ashWebSv exe C WINDOWS system ctfmon exe C Program Files SUPERAntiSpyware SUPERAntiSpyware exe C Program Files Google GoogleToolbarNotifier GoogleToolbarNotifier exe C WINDOWS system wuauclt exe C Program Files ATI Technologies ATI ACE Core-Static ccc exe C Program Files Mozilla Firefox firefox exe C Program Files Internet Explorer iexplore exe C Documents and Settings Owner My Documents Downloads dds scr Pseudo HJT Report uSearch Bar hxxp www google com ie uSearch Page hxxp www google com uSearchMigratedDefaultURL hxxp www google com search q searchTerms amp sourceid ie amp rls com microsoft en-US amp ie utf amp oe utf uStart Page hxxp www asahi com mDefault Page URL hxxp www gatewaybiz com mDefault Search URL hxxp www google com ie mStart Page hxxp www gatewaybiz com uInternet Connection Wizard ShellNext hxxp www gateway com uInternet Settings ProxyOverride local local uSearchAssistant hxxp www google com ie uSearchURL Default hxxp www google com search q s mSearchAssistant hxxp www google com ie BHO Adobe PDF Link Helper df c-e ad- -a -fa c ebdc - c program files common files adobe acrobat activex AcroIEHelperShim dll BHO B CA - A - D -A DF- BB - No File BHO UberButton Class bab b b- bc- b - d - fc de a - c program files yahoo common yiesrvc ... I built this PC in December and it's run like clockwork until just this past month where I'm getting random freezes and they're happening more and more often Here's some maintenance history My OS is up-to-date I've done MBAM Pro SuperAntiSpyware and Avast Boot Scans and eliminated a few bits of malware and the problem continues Temperature doesn't appear to be the issue my box has need diagnosing help Freezes, four fans and CPUID HWMonitor isn't showing any abnormal temperatures I did just install new Freezes, need help diagnosing NVidia drivers v and the problem seems Freezes, need help diagnosing to be happening a little more often now but it was happening before I installed them The freezes are just that I could be doing anything typing this message for example and the monitor still shows what was happening before the freeze There's no BSOD but there's no mouse control no keyboard control CTRL-ALT-DELETE and ALT-TAB do nothing and the only remedy is to cold boot Then Freezes, need help diagnosing Windows reports after the boot that it shutdown abnormally and offers to boot into Safe Mode as usual Here's my system specs if they aren't visible from my forum profile Operating System Microsoft Windows Home Premium -bit SP CPU AMD Athlon II X C Rana nm Technology RAM GB Dual-Channel DDR - - - Motherboard ASRock Extreme CPUSocket C Graphics VE x Hz MB GeForce GTX ASUStek Computer Inc C Hard Drives GB Seagate ST A ATA Device ATA C GB SAMSUNG HD GJ ATA Device SATA C Optical Drives Optiarc DVD RW AD- S ATA Device PWVSV V YJKT SCSI CdRom Device Audio High Definition Audio Device Thanks for the advice

A:Freezes, need help diagnosing

Ccleaner and other registry cleaners delete necessary registry entries, and that will cause these kinds of problems. Multiple AV softwares conflict and are not recommended. If it's not heat, then power would be my next guess. What voltages are reported in BIOS (and not HWM)?

Use MSCONFIG to turn off all non-MS services and all startups and use the computer as normally as possible and see if the freezing problem goes away. If yes, then you have probably turned off the source of the problems.

Check Event Manager and look for chronic and/or significant errors in the log that may yield a clue as to what is going on.

Run chkdsk, with the repair option enabled.

Remove the secondary HD and any other unnecessary devices during troubleshooting, as they may also be the cause of the problems.

A:need help diagnosing problem

I would remove the power supply and take it to a local repair center and have them test it for you. It's such a quick process, they probably won't even charge you for the time if you make it clear you intend to buy another from them if needed.

Or, you could test it yourself.

While we're on the subject of power supplies, I used cheap power supplies for several years and when I started using better ones (Antec, for example), a lot of the weird, unexplainable problems I had with my computers seemed to quit happening.
