Q: Solved: Unable to sync to time server - RPC server is unavailable (but more)

XP Pro SP all latest updates When I reboot I can correctly sync to a time server but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying quot The RPC server is unavailable quot instantly after clicking Update Now regardless of what server I tell it to Unable server more) Solved: server to sync (but is time - to RPC unavailable sync to I also noticed that if I view my Solved: Unable to sync to time server - RPC server is unavailable (but more) nForce Networking Controller status then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab everything is greyed out If I hit OK without changing anything I can t change it even if I wanted to a message pops up saying quot An unexpected condition occured Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made quot and just goes back to that window I have to hit cancel to close it These two issues seem to be related since right after I reboot the Authentication tab works normally as well as the time sync like I mentioned above and they both seem to stop working at the same time I have no idea if it happens after something I run or if it s just after a certain amount of time or what Any ideas nbsp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have the same problem exactly. There is an article at Ed Bott's Windows Expertise (http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=1779) tyhat discusses problems with the Windows time Server, but nothing he suggested worked for me. It just won't update...no matter what server I choose.

It's saying that DNS is unable to resolve the name of the time server 'time.nist.gov' do a Start | Run | 'cmd', followed by 'nslookup time.nist.gov' I'm getting an ip address of 192.43.244.18 back. If you can't resolve it, then you may need to choose a different DNS server for resolution, post back your DNS settings from Start | Run | 'cmd', 'ipconfig /all'

Sorry for the delay in response, I couldn't get to some of these older posts before.

Hi all

Im trying to get XP to synchronise time with an internet time server. I'm running Windows XP Professional SP3.

When I click synchronise I get the error..'An error occured getting the status of the last synchronization. The RPC server is unavailable'.
Now, ive pinged successfully time.nist.gov. I have been into services (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services) and started DHCP Client and RPC and RPC Locator.
But the clock won't synchronise.

What am I missing?

Hello-

I have a computer on the network that has been on about six months. We are running MS Exchange on our server. When this one computer starts Outlook 2000, sometimes it gets on the network and sometimes it doesn't. Generally, the first time you try to connect to Outlook, it will delay and then give the message Your Exchange Server is Unavailable and give you the option to try again or cancel. If you close it out and get back into it, it will usually go through on the second or third time. The computer can always connect to the internet and will receive internet mail, just not intranet mail. Any suggestions?

Hello! I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, and ever since I have owned this PC the time and date is ALWAYS incorrect. It will not synchronize, and says that there is an error.

I attempted to change the date/time using the command prompt. I am the administrator and only user of this computer, however this error came up:

Can anyone help me to adjust the date/time? This is highly irritating! Thank you!

I've seen the complaints about this problem but with no clear resolution. There are some hot fixes listed that may help, updating to Windows 7 SP1 is supposed to help in some cases but nothing seems for certain.

No way for me to recreate this problem but apparently others have the same problem.

I had a problem with my XP system suddenly seeing my external firewire drive as letter H, when I needed it to be 'G'... This is a job for ComputerManagement--/ Disc Management.. After failing and reading up, I discovered you must:
make sure:
--you have your TCP port enabled in Windows Firewall.. A whole other subject....
--Make sure you have the correct Windows Service enabled and STARTED, such as RPC (Remote Procedure Call)
--enable the DCOM tunneling, (go to Start and then Run. Write DCOMCNFG and then click on the Component Services. From the component services, go to My Computer and choose Properties. After this, turn to Default Properties tab and then Enable DCOM.

Well I found this procedure that fixed this problem for another poster.

I found the problem. The RPC server is unavailable because the service couldn't function properly because it's dependancy (server service) couldn't start... I checked the dependencies through the server's properties and I looked through services and started those required dependancies to start the server service, once that started... Everything functioned properly. Sorry, didn't mean waste the thread. I just hope this thread will come handy to those who stumble upon it through google with a similar problem. xD

If you don't know to get to servces. Start> control panel>administrative tools>services.

Good luck

I've searched all over to find a fix for this problem and have no joy yet. It just started without me doing anything that I know of.
Basically, I can't access other systems on the network. When I try to turn on public folder sharing, I get the error "RPC Server is unavailable". WHen I try to turn on File Sharing, it does nothing but go back to the screen and shows it as 'off'.
So, I actually did some research and there's very little info on it in Vista. I looked at the service and can't see how I can even turn it on or off....it's all greyed out. I'm thinking of doing a repair to Vista which I've never done but there's got to be a way around this. Even turning the firewall off has done no good.
If anyone has any ideas, I'll be very appreciative.
Thanks

Paul

A:RPC Server is unavailable

Hi Paul

When options are greyed out, that can often mean you're not currently logged in with administrative rights. You can also right-click the system utility that you wish to use, and select "run as administrator", and provide the administrator password.

I know the following solution might seem obvious, but if everything was working previously (and recently), you can try Vista's System Restore - using a restore point from prior to your connection issues.

As malware has a bad habit of mucking up network settings (in the effort to enlist your PC as part of a "botnet", for example), it's a good idea to run as many scans as you can on as thorough settings as possible. Should you find (or simply strongly suspect) a malware presence, visit the 5-Step Security Checklist here at TSF --- http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...oval-help.html

Should your PC prove malware-free, and System Restore prove to be either ineffective or unavailable, check in the EventViewer logs for entries that coincide with connection failures. And also view Vista networking setup tips from the TechNet folks -- Vista has a few things to look at that weren't around in XP:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb878110.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx

Best of luck

Welcome, raindogs&cats. Unless the following words in this post miraculously clear everything up for you it will be to your advantage to start your own thread and describe what you have and what problem(s) you're encountering. We can then try to tailor responses for you.

To check on services: Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services. Right clicking on a service will give some more options; the one selected above was Properties, and then the Dependencies tab. On that tab you can learn the prerequisites for the service and also what else depends on the service.

that was the last post i saw ... under the dependencies tab it says no dependencies im kinda stumped to what to do

Had to reinstall Win XP Pro SP2, on Dell Dimension E510, dual Intel Pentium. On the reboot, it recognized the HP OfficeJet G85 printer, but the following error message came up when trying to install the drivers: "Cannot install this hardware, RPC server is unavailable." I check taskmanager, and spooler isn't running (and i don't have lexserver running either), but when I check the system the spooler status is active. Not quite sure what to do at this point.

Hi and welcome to TSG.
Here is a pretty good guideline for necessary started tasks.
Check your Services are Started on all PCs:
• COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
• Computer Browser
• DHCP Client
• DNS Client
• Network Connections
• Network Location Awareness
• Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
• Server
• TCP/IP Netbios helper
• Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations)
• WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations)
• Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic (or perhaps manual).

If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running. Checking the event log is also a good idea here, there may be clues to what is failing.
__________________

The trick generally is not the task itself but the status of the task dependencies that is the killer.
Again, welcome to TSG.We look forward to seeing you post up in the future.

I have a Windows Home Server SP3 (Windows server 2003).

I took my computer over to my cousins house and I wasn't able to share the folder over the network.

I am back at my house trying to fix this now.

I tried various things but still couldn't get it working.

When I open network connections it says (empty)

I can get to the internet and ping my laptop but my laptop cannot ping the server.

Whenever I try and install a new network adapter I get "The RPC server is unavailable"

Also the network connections service says "starting".
When I do ipconfig /all next to the ethernet adapter it has a long hash tag instead of the name.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

A:The RPC server is unavailable

Symptom: Your network connections folder is empty.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, follow each one with the Enter key:

regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll

Reboot the computer.

I have windows XP and am getting this error. Any suggestions?

I recently had to use Windows Recovery console to restore the windows\system32\config\system file.

My system boots now, but I had to re-load some drivers and now am getting this RPC error when I try to load some additional programs/utilities.

Any ideas on how to remove/fix? I went to Microsoft and they say it is a windows 2000 error?

A:The RPC server is unavailable.

Sounds like it's been disabled....maybe...lol
Go to Start>Run, type services.msc, hit enter.

***DISCLAIMER.....BE CAREFUL IN HERE....IT'S AS BAD AS MESSING IN THE REGISTRY...YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!***

Scroll down until you see Remote Procedure Call (RPC), then look under the Status column to see if it is started. If so, you have a problem. If not, look under the Startup Type to see if it is set to disabled, manual, or automatic (It should be automatic). Change it as necessary (right click the line, click properties, then change it in the drop down and click apply).

Upon ipconfig /release or renew it says "rpc server unavailable".

Ive looked at services and and Remote Procedure Call and Endpoint Mapper are started. DHCP says it's "starting". System restore didn't work; resetting IP and winsock didn't work. DCom says its working.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Just a guess, but try to stop DHCP and then restart it.

Held out to be an error caused by damaged system files.

Suggestion to try using System Restore and restore to an earilier point.

I would run the sfc /scannow command myself, since that's the basic cure for damaged/missing system files.

After installing several WIN 7 updates I lost my audio, (Creative Audigy).
In checking the services, I found that when I try to start the Audio service, I find that all dependencies are working except, "Windows Audio Endpoint Builder"

When I try to start it, I get, "ERROR 1722 RPC Service Unavailble"
In checking RPC service I find that it is running.

When I disable the Audigy and use the Motherboard audio, I get the same result, no audio.

Anybody have an idea? I have checked many forums, even Microsoft, to no avail.

That usually means that the service that provides the email is having problems. Go to their website see if any mention is made of a problem.

On the machine I work on all the time, I get the message Network is unavailable, you may not have permission, etc. It doesn't even show up itself in networking until the server is back. Is this default behavior when there's a server in the network?

Something I picked up from Microsoft
Flush the DNS Cashe
Start - Run - Type - ipconfig /flushdns - OK
So it will query instead of using the cashe.
-------------------
Copy and Paste from Microsoft
How can I clear the DNS cache?
Clearing the DNS cache forces DNS to query a DNS server rather than using information stored in the cache. You might want to clear the DNS cache when making changes to websites that you manage, or if you're receiving repeated errors when you know that a web address you're typing is correct.
Note
You must open a command prompt with elevated privileges to complete the following steps. For more information, see Command Prompt: frequently asked questions
Click the Start button
In the search box, type command prompt.
In the list of results, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
At the command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns.

A:Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable

Wat email application are you using? Windows Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Thyunderbird, etc.? Has it been configured for your email account? That message usually means there's a problem with your client's setup and less often by an actual problem with the server.

I have set up an Exchange 2010 server on Windows Server 2008 R2. When running the Outlook Connectivity Test at https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com, everything appears OK except for the last stage:

Attempting to ping the MAPI Mail Store endpoint with identity: mail.[domain].com:6001.

The attempt to ping the endpoint failed.

Tell me more about this issue and how to resolve it

Additional Details

The RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE error (0x6ba) was thrown by the RPC Runtime process.
Elapsed Time: 5037 ms.

I have checked the firewall on the server and port 6001 is open. I have tried awarding port 6001 to the server from the router. still no improvement. I am somewhat new to the exchange server scene so the tech net link above didn't make an awful lot of sense.

what else can cause this sort of error?

Thanks

I wonder if anyone out there can help me I m having interface is the unavailable/ server is unknown/rpc a serious problem with my Pc It all just happened out of the blue I will explain the symptoms When I switch my the interface is unknown/rpc server is unavailable/ computer on and try to click on a program I get one of the following errors the interface is unknown or rpc server is unavailable I can t access my computer any files or any internet connection I ve tried a system restore with my Win disc which didn t work I tried repairing it with my Win disc and the first time it worked I managed to get on and do everything I needed Once reset the whole thing started again but this time with the following error user profile server failed to login So I reset and it starts up and goes back to a vicious loop whereby I get the interface is unknown or rpc server is unavailable if I try to do something it usually restarts itself or if I leave it it restarts around minutes later After about the th or th restart it s back to normal only to start the loop all over again after the next shut down reset The Win disk won t repair it any more Bare in mind it starts ok in safe mode but I haven t installed anything new or made any changes in a while so I don t know what I m looking for Does anyone have a solution nbsp

A:the interface is unknown/rpc server is unavailable/

If the system is running without issues in safe mode, I would first suggest trying a Clean Startup and determine what is causing the problem. If that is a No Go, you could try a Repair Install No data would be lost in this.

While I am Taking a print out, the error appear show that "RPC server unavailable"

I am using XP operating system.

Can anyone tell me how to fix up this problem

A:RPC Server Unavailable while taking print out

Hi and welcome to TSF!

Here's a couple of things to try.
1: Go to Start -> Run and type in 'services.msc' (no quotes). Scroll down and try to find 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC)'. If it says stopped, click on the 'Start the service' on the panel to the left. Then double click its entry in the 'Startup Type' column and set it to 'Automatic'.
2: If that doesn't work or you can't find the RPC entry, post back and then we can try some registry changes. (I didn't post the registry changes yet because modifying the registry may leave you with a unusable Operating System which needs to be reinstalled)
Thanks.

There was a thread awhile ago that's closed about the 'RPC Server unavailable' problem, which i have, it seems, exactly like the other guy - unable to install drivers and other programs - and the thread's author said it was fixed when someone suggested he make sure the DCOM service was started. So, I went to try that and there is no DCOM service listed.

There is COM+ Event System and COM+ System Application, both of which are started, but no DCOM.
I just repaired Windows after it crashed using the recovery console, following an article online, which, i think, just allowed me to get back into windows long enough to launch a system restore. Everything works fine, except for this pretty big problem. I've been at this for two days, i'm tired...any comment could help

First of all, SHRINK DOWN your fonts! They don't need to be huge!

Second, my guess is that you are logging in through your MS account -- and since I avoid that option like the plague, I can't help.

Hello,

My computer recently wouldn't boot up and after I copied some files and deleted others, it was able to again. Although now it looks as if I installed Windows XP for the first time. My applications won't work, not internet access, etc.

My main concern is that I can't install anything. When I try, I receive an error that reads, "The InstallShield Engine (ikernel.exe) could not be launched. The RPC Server is unavailable." I've tried numerous remedies from online sources (obviously using another computer), but nothing seems to work. Can someone please help me when they get a chance.

By the way, I don't have a Windows XP CD. If I need certain files from it, they'll have to be emailed to me if possible.

Thanks,
Damian

I have a problem to access file server on Windows Server 2000 from a Windows 7 PC. For your information, due to some reasons, both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are in different domain.

I have tried all suggested solutions which are :
i. to unchecked both attributes in 'Network Security : Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC)' for both clients and server.
ii. to apply 'Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated' in 'Network Security : LAN Manager authentication level'
iii. to make sure the time setting for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are the same.

But still, i couldn't access the file server. In fact, each time I entered domain\username to authenticate, it will give out this message :

Since I am kinda new to this troubleshooting things, it would be great if someone can tell me why does this happening. Is it because of the different domain?

thanks in advance.

To connect to the server you would need to enter the credentials of the domain user on the server that would have access. For example if the domain was 'home' with a user 'Josh' then I would put:

home\Josh

As the username. If you want to get advanced you could try and form a trust with the other domain in active directory so that the other domain has permission to access the server

Josh

Help as possible I looked into the Folder redirection GPO and has a good pro - Simple to impelment I did a test on my own PC did it in about minutes cons - in order to allow laptops to work they would have to have offline folders enabled and synchrnized and worst of all synchrnization won t accept PST s MDB s and Solved: Finally getting a file server! Need to backup certain users PC's to this server. Help other key files that we would need synchronized as well gives errors in the synching process I then thought about a file sync program letting them seemlessly work on their PCs and just sync the files to the file server - Pros Can install a server side client that just polls for connected PC s and copies the files to the repsective places Cons costs money usually does not sync in use files making some of the files be missed Lastly I considered a batch file to run at login - Pros easier to setup to copy things out Cons only runs at login so people could leave their PC up for days and have day old software As well I do not know how to copy only modified files so some people with large files would copy over a ton of data unless I can find a solution for this Anyone else have any Ideas possibly something with all pros and no cons nbsp

I recently sent my laptop out to have the keyboard seated correctly. When it was returned I was not able to access my internet from the wireless connection in my home. I can access the internet from unsecure networks. Tech support from my internet company stated that I most likely needed to update my driver. I am not sure which driver to update from the Lenovo site.
