I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I have a Toshiba Satellite  running windows 7. I got the computer from my father and had to remove a lot of malware and games. I wish i could do a factory reset but i do not have any of the factory disks. It seems like there are a lot of processes running and the physical memory is almost always at 100%. Any help would greatly be appreciated . Thanks in advance.

You can first try this:
http://www.howtogeek.com/74523/how-to-disable-startup-programs-in-windows/

Then you can try removing all the junk files on it using CCleaner or BleachBit or something similar. If that doesn't help, I would recommend dual booting this PC with Ubuntu 14.04. I actually published a tutorial on doing that here:
http://69.107.93.24/Blog/52015/

You could then use that as your primary OS.

A:Slow wireless internet after previous high speed

I would be thinking one of two things,
2-wireless interference.

on another note, why dont you try to plug in your computer directly to the router to see if your connection speeds up a bit. here is the wireless interference bit.....

Going wireless is an exciting milestone. Whether you're in the process of setting up your network or you've already been working happily without wires, you're probably familiar with Public Enemy Number One in the wireless world: interference.
If you've experienced interference, you know how annoying it can be: now you have a signal; now you don't. It's like hide-and-seek.without the fun. But wait! Don't throw your hands (or your laptop) in the air. We'll tell you how to determine what might be affecting your signal, and how to get back to being your old productive self.
What is it?
Think of a time when your favorite radio or television station wouldn't come in due to bad weather. When the storm passed, the signal became clear again. Similarly, because your wireless network relies on radio waves traveling through your home, your signal may waver for a variety of reasons. How will you know if you're experiencing interference in the first place? We'll help you identify and solve potential problems.
Thankfully, the client software that comes with almost all wireless network adapters can help you monitor your network's performance. With most systems, there will be a signal-strength meter in the Windows system tray (usually found in the bottom right corner of your screen).
In addition, the client software itself probably has a more in-depth system for testing signal strength. This feature is commonly called a link test function, although it may be called something else (depending on the manufacturer). Check your manual or the online help system, which usually measures:
Signal strength: Measured in decibels compared to one milliwatt (or dBm), the signal strength is sometimes referred to as signal level. The higher this number is, the better chance you have for a full-speed connection between your access point and your PC.
Noise level: Ideally, you want the noise level (also measured in dBm) to be as low as possible. Cordless phones and microwaves are common culprits for increasing the noise level.
Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR): This is the most telling of the numbers because it compares the strength of the signal with the noise that is interfering. SNR is measured in decibels (dB), and a higher number is good news.
The location of your access point (AP) is key. With a little planning, you can avoid potential interference and save yourself time, money, and frustration.

Here are some pointers:
Pick a place near the center of your home.
Avoid mounting your AP on the wall. The best place is six or more inches from the wall.
Keep the AP out of the line of sight of microwaves, cordless phones, refrigerators, and other appliances that contain metal.
Your computer can cause interference, so try keeping the AP separate.
Avoid putting the AP low to the ground. Instead, keep it on a table or a shelf.
If your house is large, you may need two access points.
Troubleshooting tips
If your wireless network is all set up and you're experiencing interference, here are some ideas for improving the signal:
Move the access point. See the above section for pointers, and if all else fails, walk around with the AP while someone else monitors your signal strength.
Change channels. If you've got a neighbor with a wireless network, you may be operating on the same channel. You can change the channel in the software that came with your wireless access point.
Move the antenna. Not all antennas have the same range of coverage, so finding the best position is a matter of ... Read more

Just bought a Canon Powershot A620 (used).
The manual was printed in 2005 & calls for a SDC-512MSH card in order to use the continuous shooting mode.
As I am aware the average speed of a Secure Digital Card is much faster in 2012 than it was in 2005, would the average SDC purchased today work fine or should I look for something faster?
(I do believe this camera will only take up to a 2GB card)

Thank you.

i have recently gone from having 2mbps broadband to nearly 7mbps broadband but the web pages seem to take alot longer to load especially if they are new pages that i have not visited before. i was wondering what the reason for this could be?? i thought that if the internet connection was faster then webpages would load faster too. could it be something to do with IE7 although i had no problems with it when i had the slower connection. any help with this would be welcomed.

A:[SOLVED] super-high speed fan, system freeze

Hi maddclicker and welcome to TSF !

Do you have the XP CD ? If so, in safe mode, go to start => run and type sfc /scannow (the space after sfc is important). This will run the system file checker that will replace any corrupt system file you could have by a fresh copy from the XP CD. If your CD doesn't hold the SP2 files you'll have to create a slipstreamed copy to integrate the SP2 in it, see this link. The system file checker scan can take some time to complete, just don't do anything in the mean time.

That Fresh Diagnose program you used was probably crap and obvioulsy didn't know the proper layout of your motherboard. There's no way your CPU was at 110?C.

Once the sfc scan is done, restart and tell us if there's any change.

If not then download and run sensorsview pro and tell us about the voltages, cpu and gpu temps and fan speeds it reports.

Also go in the device manager (start => run => devmgmt.msc), check "show hidden devices" in the view menu and report of any warning or error you could see there.

And run the event viewer (start => run => eventvwr.msc) to check whether there are any warnings or errors in the different sections there.

Hello,

Im having issues with my Emachine E640.

When browsing websites they are taking an age to load. I then decided to ping google.com and the following results came back

Pinging google.com with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from : bytes=32 time=572ms TTL=54
Reply from : bytes=32 time=1121ms TTL=54
Reply from : bytes=32 time=1543ms TTL=54

These differ dramatically from 30 to around 3000.

I have done the following actions without any change,

Reinstalled the drivers, ipconfig/release / renew etc...
But to no avail so if anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

Im using Windows 7 x64 , Wireless internet , Atheros AR5B93 Wireless network adapter.

Recently, I reinstalled my Netgear wna3100 driver. Ever since then, I've been experiencing problems with high pings in games where I normally never had problems with. Pages load slowly even just the home page of Google.

I've attached my ipconfig picture. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

To Disable Selective Suspend:

open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

I would also (while the device is plugged in)
go into the control panel - system - device manager - click the properties for it and make sure it's set to always on there as well.
I don't think the ipconfig can tell us much here since it's a data rate problem of some sort and not a actual connection problem from the sound of it.

The two things I mention above will hopefully keep your system from putting the device in 'low power mode' which may , or may not help your current problem.

I'm also curious if your system has recently slowed down in any other ways?

First question... Are they high speed hubs?
I have an older 4 port Dlink here that's never run 480... looking into the chip on the internal circuit board, it turns out to be a 12mbps chip... you can slow them down, but you can't scare them into running faster.

I just finished re-installing xp on one of my friends laptops...

It was extremely messed up and had a ton a viruses, malware and disc errors, soo now it's brand spanken new!

Of course he needed some files backed up before the format, so I saved all his music to a USB...

I booted in safe mode (figuring I would avoid extra processes that would slow down the flash drive)

It took 3 HOURS to back up his lousy 12 GIGS OF MUSIC!

Now that im on a fresh version of xp I dragged his music back on the flash (to see how long it would take this time) and it only took 12 minutes?

So what was the HUGE SLOW down? Was it safe mode?

A:Super slow USB Speed?

Possibly, safe mode does not load all of the Windows drivers.

Hello and welcome jjw mate you would be far better off posting a thread in the 8 forum - it is a sister forum to this one and loads of members here are members there.

As for your problem again better posted in that forum but sounds like a filing system or malware problem to me.

We recently got 100Mb fibre optic broadband from Virgin Media, but it's been 2 days now and various speedtests report only 2-3Mbps. Other computers around the house get around 20Mbps (none have 100Mbps).

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron N5110, so it's not old, and I run both Linux and Windows 7 (dual boot) - neither OS gets more than 2-3Mbps. I've also tried moving to various spots around the house, to no avail.

I also tried downloading a large torrent (legal) with thousands of seeders to see how fast it would download, and it stuck at around 1Mbps, never any faster.

Why is this? If we're paying for 100Mbps, surely I should expect more than 3Mbps? Other computers on the same network get 10 times this so the issue is with my laptop?

Dear friends

Could you help me figure out why it is that I have trouble browsing in high speed despite the fact that the wireless adapter receives data at 1 Mbps minimum? I haven't been able to watch videos on Youtube, read the news etc because the browser takes ages to load the full page. I checked which applications are connected and they haven't exchanged much data as you can see below:

Excuse my English!

Thank you.

I recently cleaned my computer of dust using compressed air now the cpu is running very very slow.

A:CPU is running super slow now

Do you have benchmarks, or any readings what so ever to prove this. If not that's where we need to start, if you clean it up it should be able to have more room to breathe so it should stay relatively cool, can you monitor temperatures?

Is there a specific application you where able to run amazingly fast and now it doesn't work like it was before?

I recommend you going back to your tower and make sure everything is nicely connected and plug in.

Explain your situation and post the log .
If you can find in the avast log what virus and adware it found that would be an item you should include.
It sounds like the virus may have changed some things on your computer which are causing this problem.
Also, empty your temp internet files , and any cookies you do not absolutely need (tools , internet options/ general ) You may just have some bad pages cached.

I have wireless internet through my cable provider. My signal strenght varies from 5 to 48 mbps on most days. Why isn't the signal consistent and what causes my internet to get so slow. Is there anything I can do...call my cable provider?

A:High speed internet not so high speed

"call my cable provider?"

No. You are mixing up some terms, but it doesn't sound like this is an ISP problem.

For now I'm going to assume that you have cable internet service and a wireless router. If not, please describe. If so, please post the brand and model of your modem and router (or modem/router combo).

Wireless signal strength is usually given in terms of "n bars out of 5" or "good," "excellent," etc. What is yours, and does it vary? How close is the PC to the router, and what obstructions are in the way?

When your bandwidth varies from 5 to 48mbps it could be an adapter or driver or router problem, but more likely is wireless interference. Are there other wireless networks on your same (or close) channel?

Some people first just try changing channels (in North America the non interfering channels are 1, 6 and 11) without trouble shooting to see if that helps.

If you are having difficulty determining the channels of the networks you detect use NetStumbler for help: www.netstumbler.com

My PC is running very slowly all of a sudden. It will peak to 100% CPU usage for no reason, and my McAfee virus scanner will come up and say it has been turned off for no reason (6-10 times daily). I have run McAfee after ensuring it is fully up to date, and also MalWare and neither of them are finding any problems. I have nothing major running that I can find, and this happens when trying to open something as basic as FireFox.

Any help is greatly appriciated.

My friends computer is running really slow all of the sudden. It's maybe a year old and he has Windows XP-Home and is currently using America Online 8.0 as is ISP. I defragmented his harddrive already. I'm thinking he must have all kinds of spyware on his computer or something so I downloaded Spybot S&D and it downloaded and installed but for some reason at the very end when it said finish and scan, and I clicked ok, I got this Error message that said access denied or something like that. And when I click on the shortcut icon on the desktop it wont open up-I get the hourglass for a second and then it goes away but nothing opens. Any suggestions on what I should do or what the problem might be? Any info would be helpful.
Thanks!

A:Computer running super slow!

Try rebooting into Safe Mode and see if Spybot can do its work in there. Also download AdAware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com update and run that in Safe Mode as well. Delete all his Temporary Internet files, Cookies and History. Right click the AOL icon in the notification area, go to Utilities and Clear Browser Cache. Go Start>Run type in $temp$ and delete everything in the right hand pane of the next window. The defrag the hard drive.

Then in Explorer, create a new folder in Programme Files and call it HJT. Go to http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html and download Hijack This, unzip it to that folder and run it. Copy and paste the resulting log back here and don't let HJT fix anything until you here from someone in this forum.

It started few days ago. My laptop became very hot and very slow with just nothing apart from google chrome with 1 tab open and Windows Live Messenger running. I have tried running scans with MBAM, superantispyware, avira to run the scans and no virus were found. I had to use Balanced mode and even when watching a movie it lags every few minutes. is there any solution apart from formatting? the hard disk part is the hottest and sometimes it just shuts off due to overheating.

I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, core i5 2.27 GHz, 4GB DDR3.

Ok, I am having a major problem - here is what is happenning: this is the machine Pentium Dual Core, running Win XP Pro

EI is running Super slow.
Firefox is running Super slow
Outlook Express is also running Super slow to the point that the connection times out.

Here is what I have done:

The system is running fine - I am just having this major slow down with any type of internet program. The internet connection is fine because I am typing this on another machine on the same internet connection. The internet was fine last night - I didn't notice this problem until this morning when my wife woke up.

I see you have only 2 GB of ram and thats its fairly slow - that might be your "bottleneck". Win 7 likes lots of ram. And You are running 64 Bit windows so you need even more ram. You dont mention your processors speed in your "System Specs"

Good luck joelkat

A:Windows XP running SUPER slow!!! HELP!

First of all, you are running HijackThis out of a temporary directory. Please download the HijackThis below which will extract into its own directory, or you wish please create a folder in My Documents and call it Hijack (or something similar). Then extract HijackThis into the folder you have created and run it from there. The reason for this is that Hijackthis cannot create backup files whilst it is being run from a temporary folder.

When you have done this, then make sure all browsers and windows are closed except for HijackThis and please wait for a HijackThis expert to assist you in doing any repair work necessary, they are the people with the little Gold Shield next to their name.Click to expand...

Filename = 1137518044HJTsetup.exe

Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialog boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialog.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

A security expert should take a look at your log - please be patient.

Hi...I was helped with a BSOD problem in the XP section...I finally figured out it was a driver in my external drive causing the crashes..I removed it and now the computer is stable but very slow..Opening explorer or any programs or website takes about 20 seconds..I scanned with several malware programs and all were clean except 2..Spyware doctor claimed it found TDSS and Advanced System Care found Win32swizzor.au but said it removed it..A second scan then was clear... I also ran a complete system scan with Avira and no virus was found. I can't get to the bottom of why this thing is so slow..I checked ram with Memtest and it showed no errors..The computer runs fine in safe mode with networking. Is there a way to completely rule out malware or virus problems? Thanks for any help.

I noticed yesterday that my CPU fan was constantly running at a high speed.  I opened the case, saw there was dust in the fan unit, so I removed it and cleaned it.  That seemed to fix the problem.  However, it is again running at a high speed a large percentage of the time, even when the computer is not being used.  I fear some other problem. Task manager is indicating around 63% CPU usage pretty much all the time.
Any suggestions?

Hello,

I got a T450s, brand new and everytime I am not plugged in (it's a laptop after all) the computer litteraly slows down to a point where it is unusable, a simple key (space, a letter, a number) will usually take 3-5 second and sometimes up to 20 seconds to register, no software is usable, CAD, video playback and authoring, completely useless when on battery. The thing is this is a laptop, I WILL use it on battery. That is despite me choosing high performance in the Lenovo power manager.

Anyway I can fix this?

A:Computer running super slow [Pls help ASAP :)]

Hi, silverbear_87

Welcome.

You are overprotecting your computer. Remove all Security Programs, except for your Antivirus. Yes, Zone Alarm should go also.

There is no evident malware in the log. Go to Start and right click on My Computer. Check the amount of RAM detected. Is it consistent with what is suppose to be installed?

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently. Hopefully going through these steps will solve the problems you are having with the pc being slow:

Disk Cleanup:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart.

Upon restart you will be confronted with a dialogue box warning about running in selective startup. Just ignore that message and put a check in the box by "Don't show me this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click "OK". You will not be bothered by the message again.

Keep in mind that some entries will be re-enabled in the startups each time you use that particular program. Therefore, you will have to find the option in that programs preferences that says something like "Load with Windows" or "Run when Windows Starts" and disable that option.

Go here for info on msconfig:

Pacs Portal

You can look up the startups at the following links to help determine what is needed and what is not:

It's taking literally minutes to open a Internet Explorer window, to open my e-mail program, and even once inside my e-mail program it takes half a minute to switch from one email to another in my inbox.

The first signs were a couple weeks ago. It was taking 20 to 30 seconds to open a word document. But that was the only trouble for a while.

I am running Windows XP.
NB: I installed, then un-installed SP2 about a month ago. Things seemed to work fine--until the above problems began.

Hello and Welcome to Bleeping Computer!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.

My computer was recently infected with spysheriff. After utilizing the self-help guide from this forum, I learned to remove it with smithfruadfix. Although spysheriff is gone now, my computer is running super slow. What is even more trouble some is that there is a reccuring JBHGQ1.dll identified by the Security Task Manager program. Removal of it using Security Task Manager removes it temporary but pops back up after a short while. What should I do?

My Dell Inspiron laptop came with Windows installed in I had Windows installed via download in August At first the speed was fine Now my laptop is so slow that it has become almost unusable I often click on something and have to wait to seconds for a reaction Just shutting down can take minutes Looking in the task manager I see under Processes that my memory is slow with Windows 10 running super System full System running super slow with Windows 10 and the System process is using more than Mb of memory I have tried many things to speed up my laptop I tried modifying the paging file size for virtual memory to a lower size but then I kept getting low memory warnings every few minutes and my apps would close if I ignored the warnings I end up needing a large paging file System running super slow with Windows 10 size to Mb way more than the recommended size of Mb to avoid low memory warnings So of course System running super slow with Windows 10 Windows is shuffling a lot of data back and forth to the disk slowing everything down I eliminated every app from opening on Startup that I don't need although of course I don't know what many of the apps listed in the Startup menu do so I leave them alone My anti-virus eats a lot of memory but I need that Since I'm in Europe we don't have Cortana so that's not a problem Can anyone recommend ways to reduce the high demand on memory by the System process If so please help and using layperson's terms I have a Ph D but not in computer engineering

A:System running super slow with Windows 10

Hi, certainly you're quite right that if your PC thinks it's starved of memory it will be very busy swapping disk to RAM & v. versa. (page file).

a. say how much RAM is equipped on your PC
b. post a screen shot (picture) of your task manager full screen height - click on the 'Memory' tab to organise by highest at top

Have a look at any programs you recognise that are taking up a lot of RAM. Do you need these running?
Thanks

Windows 7 Starter 64-bit

Hoping one of you guys can help me make sure my system is clean. My system is running VERY slow compared to what it usually is and I can't find a reason why. Updated bios/drivers. System will run good for a few minutes, then hang for about 10-30secs, then unfreeze. Couple minutes later it will do it again.

Please post what logs you would like to see.

Thanks.

A:Computer running super slow.. rootkit?

Hello and welcome. Lets see these logs. Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.4.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
