Unable to connect to most websites -- not a browser problem

Q: Unable to connect to most websites -- not a browser problem

So about a few weeks ago (not exactly sure when it started) my computer stopped allowing me to access certain websites. It started out with only a few, but now it is almost 50-80% not connecting. I do not think it is a problem with my browser. I typically use Firefox, but IE will connect to the same ones Firefox allows, and will also not connect to the same websites Firefox will not allow.

I have searched these forums for a couple of hours now and nothing seems to fit my exact problem, and I am hesitant to use the solutions from other forums because it might further hurt my system. I am not tech-savvy/computer literate to say the least, and I would need a thorough walk-through on how to diagnose the problem, as well as how to fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Unable to connect to most websites -- not a browser problem

How are you not allowed to view the website? Does the page show "The page cannot be displayed"? or you are not authorized or something else?

Try running cmd.exe, type "ipconfig /flushdns" without quotes.

First, google public dns is widely used and safe. Download MiniToolBox and select all options.A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

Hi I have been struggling with accessing certain websites to connect certain websites to (Browser/Connection Independent) Unable while using my laptop HP Envy Intel i CPU Windows Home Premium x For example while Unable to connect to certain websites (Browser/Connection Independent) I am able to navigate to Google performing a search containing the word quot statistics quot results in a deactivation of google instant' and a quot Problem loading page quot error that prevents me from accessing the search results There are many other such 'keywords' that result in the same thing The problem is not limited to google yahoo ask or virtually any search engine gives the same The quot Problem loading page quot error is not even limited to searches as it occurs for certain websites too though indirectly through searches as that is how I locate most of the websites I visit I was using Firefox when I first noticed this issue but it is the same if I switch to IE The problem is not limited to my home internet connection but occurs for every network I connect to Interestingly if I run a web browser through my Virtual Linux machine the problem disappears and I have no issues connecting to any websites I have tried running SpyBot S amp D to see if it was a malware issue and CCleaner to see if it went away if I cleared all my old settings temporary files Unfortunately neither helped I hope to be able to solve this problem as it is extremely aggravating as I don't really know what the cause could be If you have any suggestions or need any information let me know I ran HijackThis and attached the log file Also I checked the 'hosts file using HijackThis additional tools and it was empty Thanks Brian

A:Unable to connect to certain websites (Browser/Connection Independent)

Welcome to Seven Forums bdizzle329. Try this, it will reset the hosts file to Windows default.

Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

Code:
@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0
Save as flush.bat to your desktop.

Right click the .bat file and choose Run as Administrator. Your computer will reboot itself.

See if that helped. A Guy

Hey, I've got a problem, using Internet Explorer And Firefox on my laptop and certain sites will not go through. I have tried to connect from my home network and works network. . . sites like apple.com or kbb.com keep coming back as unable to connect. . . I've tried these same sites on different computers of the same network and they've gone through perfectly. Have no clue, but could really use some help...

A:Unable to connect to certain websites

Hi 8atenate and welcome to TSF !

Might be some problem with the hosts file.

Open windows explorer, go to tools => folder options => view. Uncheck "hide operating system protected files" and "hide extensions for known file types" and check "show hidden files and folder".

Navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and locate the file named hosts. Open that file in notepad (you can open notepad and drag 'n drop the file in it, or double-click the file and choose notepad in the open with list). Ignore the lines starting with # but check that there are no other lines than 127.0.0.1 localhost at the bottom. Report if you see other such lines.

A:Unable to connect to many websites - please help

Hello auto, and welcome to Sevenforums!

I may not know a whole lot on exactly what is causing you the problems, but we can troubleshoot a bit to see if we can't find what's going on inside. If youtube works on everything else, then it isn't an ISP problem.

First, are you using the latest version of internet explorer (9)? Do you have the same trouble with another web browser such as firefox or chrome?

Second, Do you have every single "important" update installed, and all internet explorer or web browser - related "optional" updates installed? And have you updated all add-ons for all web browsers that you use, especially flash player and java?
Just what are all the add-ons that you have installed, especially any security add-ons. Please list them for me. Do you have any tracking protection lists that you might have enabled? Disable all of those tracking protection lists and check to see if it all works now (may need to restart IE).

Now we go a little deeper so gird up your skirt and let's trudge:
What antivirus/antimalware software(s) are you running? Some antivirus/malware programs can hinder normal operation, so you might consider disabling all security features temporarily and navigating to a SAFE website, such as youtube, that you've been having trouble with. If you are able to use it well, then the problem lies with your security software(s).
Note: If you've installed another firewall other than the pre-installed windows firewall, disable it now. I would go as far as removing it, but it is up to you. Windows firewall works perfectly fine (often better), and you shouldn't have to disable it at all during our tests.
Also note: Re-enable everything if the problem persists. Update your antivirus software and do a full scan on your system to make sure it is malware free. If you do not have an antivirus software, use mine: http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx

If not, we continue on:
Try resetting IE9*: Reset Internet Explorer settings in Internet Explorer 9
*BUT FIRST: save all of your favorites (if you have them): Import or export favorites in Internet Explorer

Let me know how all of this turns out!

A:Unable to Connect to Most Internet Websites (IE8 or Firefox 3.0.10)

For almost four months, I have been having a serious problem with my desktop (Win XP SP3, Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz, 1 GB, 120 GB HD-partitioned into two 60 GB, IE8, Firefox 3.0.10, NIS 2008, several other Anti-malware products) connecting to the Internet via cable modem (Cogeco claims the connection is OK, and Network Magic Pro 5 and Windows Network connection show it is OK). I can only access NIS 2008 Symantec Live Update, and have been doing so daily. To access Windows Update, I have to disable all non-Microsoft services, but then I can only perform one function on the Windows Update webpage - i.e. either perform an Express update, or Check Update History. I have tried a great many possible solutions, as provided by a number of "helpers" on Experts Exchange, and several other help-related tech support websites. I have attached an MS WORD document (2.9 MB - hence may not be accepted - how can I make it available?)which chronicles the majority of my unsuccessful attempts. It appears that the root cause could be one or more corrupt files or registry entries, but I have no idea how to diagnose this type of problem. Two of the "last resort" solutions appear to be to first try a Win XP SP3 reinstall (using a streamlined CD-ROM from my original Win WP Home SP1 CD, then, if that does not succeed, a hard drive reformat (my partition holds almost all of my data, which I have backed up using Retrospect Express 7.5, onto an external WD HD). Obviously, I am seeking a less painful option than either of these two "last resort" ones. Right lets start from the beginning At the start Internet most websites! unable to connected, but connect to of march I decided to build my self a new Internet connected, but unable to connect to most websites! PC for gaming this was my first build which was a bit of a budget one at around The build went ok but I then needed to get a new router as we previously only had one computer in the house meaning we connected through a modem In the end we went for a different deal with the same provider which included a free router So I got everything connected up and it worked Hurrah Untill about two weeks ago Knew luck wasn t actually on my on my side for once So now that s enough of me rambling on about my life history It is time for the current problem I m not very complex with computers so you will have to bare with me Basically the internet will be connected but then when you load a web page such as bbc co uk it won t and then if you load anther webpage such as youtube com it will work if you try again in hours time ect It will be vise versa However the internet does work fine at times and not certain times it can be anywhere from late at night to peak times in the evening I have searched the web over and over but most of the similar problems are for just one computer where as my problem is on both my and the older XP which pretty much confirms I think that it is to do with the router rather than the computer When A page doesn t load it comes up with this message on chrome This webpage is not available Google Chrome could not load the webpage because www youtube com took too long to respond The website may be down or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection Error net ERR CONNECTION TIMED OUT The operation timed out Anther factor I should probably mension is that I live out in the countryside and my speed never gets any higher than mb s Anyway thankyou for taking the time to read my long boring post and I hope you can help me with my Issue Cheers Dave nbsp

My laptop refuses to connect with Firefox, IE7 or Opera. I wait and then I get a `timed out` message each time I try.

My server connection is ok and I can send messages via OE.

I`ve had no problems with my firwall settings before but I have changed my firewall to other providers without success. I`m using AVG paid anti virus.
I tried connecting to Windows URL and received this message:

`HTTP Error 12002 connecting to www.microsoft.com. The operation timed out.`

I`ve used CC cleaner and system restore but the problem remains.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A:Unable To Connect To Browser

Please provide us your network setup. Do you have a router? Cable modem? DSL?

Did this just started to happen recently? You can try right clicking on the network icon by the clock and click on "network repair". If this process doesn't fix the problem you can try clicking on start -> run -> type in "cmd" and then once the command prompt screen opens up, type in "icponfig/release". Then afterwards type in "ipconfig/renew" and see if this fixes your issue.

Also see if you can ping any websites like yahoo for example. type in "ping www.yahoo.com" and see if you get any packets loss, all received, etc etc.

Are you on a wireless connection, hard-wired?

I'm having a peculiar problem that I can't seem to resolve for more than a couple days at a time Every now and then my laptop stops loading webpages I'm still connected I can use Skype and if I'm on Twitter already that site works fine but new sites won't load and the error I get is either just can't connect to internet or something about the DNS taking too long I'm connected connect Can't to websites... problem? DNS wirelessly the main computer works fine and my phone and tablet can both use the WiFi fine but not my laptop I've actually had this problem for months and it used to tell me there was an IP conflict Using the ipconfig release and renew commands used to work but now even that doesn't help Resetting Can't connect to websites... DNS problem? or unplugging the router also used to work but again now it does nothing The only thing that helps now is if I go into the adapter settings and manually configure a new static IP address and use Google's public DNS server But now even that fix isn't working for more than a couple days at a time and then it gives me hours of fighting with the settings changing IPs switching the DNS back and forth rebooting the computer etc etc until it finally decides to work again And when it works sometimes it only lasts long enough to load a page before it quits working again At best like I've said Can't connect to websites... DNS problem? it works for a couple days without problems and then suddenly quits again I really really don't know much about computers like this The above fixes I've only managed to find after a lotttt of Google searches but I can't seem to find a permanent solution anymore which is why I'm here If anyone can think of a suggestion I'm begging you please make it step by step idiot proof because otherwise I won't understand Thank you I'm running a windows dell inspirion n I use chrome but also have Firefox If anyone needs more info in order to help let me know

A:Can't connect to websites... DNS problem?

Hello, and Welcome
Have you tried reinstalling the Wireless Drivers? Sometimes the intel wireless drivers get wonky if your Dell has those. Right click the Wireless adapter in Device Manager. Select Properties. Under the details tab, select Hardware ID's in the dropdown box. Copy and Paste the first line in your next post.

Hi,

My first post on this site, so I hope someone can help.

I am trying to clean a Dell Latitude C640 running XP SP3 for my niece, which has become very slow, so must be infected with something.

I have tried the following (not necessarily in this order):
1. Ran Sybot
2. Ran Adaware
3. Ran Housecall
4. Ran Wise Registry cleaner
5. Ran Malwarebytes
6. Ran Hijackthis

Now the browsers (have also loaded Chrome) are redirecting at random to page. I also can't get access to windows update.

I have attached a copy of the HijackThis log.

All help is very gratefully received.

I am trying to help a co-worker get his Wifi working.

The wireless manager says he has a connection but when starting up firefox it is unable to pick up a web site. He just informed me he is unable to get connected via his LAN line at home.

He's assuming something he did with firewall settings a few days ago caused this. Where should l look first to try to solve this?

Thanks
PP

When both wireless and ethernet are having trouble connecting a top suspect is a 3rd party firewall (security suite).

DNS client hasn't started

make a flushdns.cmd
add these lines..

echo ipconfig /flushdns >flushDNS.bat
echo net stop "DNS Client" >>flushDNS.bat
echo net start "DNS Client" >>flushDNS.bat
.\flushDNS.bat

Also if that doesn't work then un-install the drivers for your network NIC reboot the PC and let windows restore your settings it.. If you have problems more then something else is going on..

Hello... Let's try going into Control Panel ,Add /Remove.. Look an see if any of these exist and uninstall/Remove them."Internet Optimizer Software Installer". "Kapabout". "DyFuCA". "DyFuCA Active Alert". "Internet Optimizer". "Internet Optimizer Active Alert". Reboot the PC.Now run TFC by OTPlease download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop. alternate download linkSave any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser! Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator. Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion. Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (v1.46) and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. If Malwarebytes Anti-Malware results in any error messages, check the Help file's list of error codes within its program folder first. If you do not find any information, please refer to Common Issues, Questions, and their Solutions, Frequently Asked Questions. If the error you are receiving is not in the list, please report it here so the research team can investigate. Some types of malware will target Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and other security tools to keep them from running properly. If that's the case, please refer to the suggestions provided in For those having trouble running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Hi Allison, to Bleeping Computer. My name is SpySentinel and I will be helping you with your malware problem.Step #1Download OTL to your DesktopDouble click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.Click on Minimal Output at the topDownload the following file scan.txt to your Desktop. Click here to download it. You may need to right click on it and select "Save" Double click inside the Custom Scan box at the bottomA window will appear saying "Click Ok to load a custom scan from a file or Cancel to cancel"Click the Ok button and navigate to the file scan.txt which we just saved to your desktopSelect scan.txt and click Open. Writing will now appear under the Custom Scan boxClick the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time and post them in your topicStep #2Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner. Unzip it to your Desktop. Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan. Double click GMER.exe.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a full scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.. In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are UNCHECKED ... IAT/EAT Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\) Show All (don't miss this one)

Click the image to enlarge it Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish. Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt" Save the log where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.**Caution**Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries Please copy and paste the report into your Post.

My AOL browser appears to be disabled. It regards every website or hyperlink as a file to be downloaded. (Example: click on a link, a window opens up asking me if I want to "save" , "download" or "cancel" this file) Then a blank window opens. I have tried clicking on all three options and ignoring this but my browser won't operate. I also can't get into my e-mail. A red check mark appears and my mail automatically goes to old mail, but never appears.

I have removed and reinstalled AOL, run a complete system scan, deleted cookies, etc. --nothing works. I cannot run the "hijack this" link because I can't get to the website! I should mention that I am on a different computer in the house. I would not even be able to get to this website on my other computer.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A:Problem viewing websites, browser disabled

Download HijackThis on the other computer and save it on a floppy. Copy it over to the problematic computer and run HijackThis.

I suggest PMing me or one of the security analysts to take a look at this. Since I'm not sure it's spyware related or not, I will leave your thread here for now.

This problem happens in all browsers.
I can't see Adbrite ads, for example. And some websites don't display correctly.

Here's how my website displays Statcounter:

To see how it should be displayed visit StatCounter Free invisible Web tracker, Hit counter and Web stats.

I have Flash Player installed, so that shouldn't be the problem. I also have Java 32 bits SE installed... Anyone knows what could be wrong?

Thanks.

A:Certain websites not displaying correctly in Vistax64, Problem happens in all browser

Thats a strange one, do you have any antispyware programs running?

You should also check what ie add ons are running from the tools->manage add on menu

For some odd reason, these websites will not load yet it still says it is connected. Also, I believe there is no problem with my Internet provider because I am currently typig this from my iPod Touch which is connected to the wireless router. I need help soon. Please and thank you.

Hi, yesterday I tried to connect to a hotspot wifi and noticed that the icon on the taskbar is not visible.

So i tried going to my network connections and didn't find the LAN or Wireless Network connection that I usually configure whenever i try to connect to other network.

So I went to device manager and saw this annoying exclamation sign over my hardware. attached is a screenie. What do you say I should do?

A:Networking problem on my XP (unable to connect internet)

Those icons indicate you have a driver problem for the devices.. tho it's odd that you suddenly have a driver problem for both yur wired AND wireless suddenly

I think best next step is to uninstall / reinstall the devices.

I'd first look in Add/Remove Programs to see if any LAN or WLAN entries are found and uninstall them. Then uninstall from DevMgr.
> Intel Pro / 100 VE Net Connection and
> Intel 3945ABG Net Connection
Then try reinstalling the drivers from HP's web site should have them there for you to download

fyi... is a bit troubling wired and wireless and even your 1394 device show an error.. is possible there is a bigger problem.. but suggest you first try the uninstall/reinstall per above

You don't have an ethernet adapter installed. Look in device manager and make sure all of the drivers are installed for your on board NIC.

Problem source:

O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider
'c:\docume~1\compaq~1\locals~1\temp\ntdll64.dll' missing

Problem fixed by downloading and running lspfix.exe and WinsockXP.exe

LSP-Fix http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Repairs Winsock 2 settings, caused by buggy or improperly-removed
Internet software, that result in loss of Internet access

LSP-Fix is a free Windows utility to repair a loss of Internet
access associated with certain types of software. This type of
software, known as a Layered Service Provider or LSP, typically
handles low-level Internet-related tasks, and data is passed
through a chain of these programs on its way to and from the
Internet. However, due to bugs in the LSP software or deletion of
the software, this chain can get broken, causing the Internet
connection to become inaccessible.

Unfortunately, problematic LSP software, including
malware/spyware, is sometimes quietly installed by unrelated
products such as file-sharing programs, sneaking onto a system
unannounced. In fact, in many cases, the user does not know of
its existence until something goes wrong, and he/she can no
longer access Web sites. Historically, New.net* (NEWDOTNET) and
WebHancer* (often bundled with file-sharing utilities, DVD player
software, and other free downloads) have been the worst
offenders, but the problem can be caused by any
improperly-written Layered Service Provider software, or the
deletion of any LSP program's files. LSP-Fix repairs the LSP
chain by removing the entries left behind when LSP software is
removed by hand (or when errors in the software itself break the
LSP chain), and removing any gaps in the chain.

LSP-Fix is not a malware removal utility and does not target
specific products. LSP-Fix does not delete any files.
WinsockXP.exe

http://forums.whatthetech.com/broken_internet_ntdll64_dll_file_missing_t99303.html

First download to your desktop WinsockXP fix in case it is need
after the LSP removal. If you are unable to connect after running
the LSP fix then just run this programme

A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your
computer. We need to get rid of it.

Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
Check the I know what I'm doing box.
In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of
ntdll64.dll.

Select every instance of ntdll64.dll and move each one to the
Remove box by clicking the >>button.
When you are done click Finish>>.

Hi everybody, I have a sony vaio laptop with some pretty basic connection problems. I am trying to connect with wireless in friend's house, entered wep key, recognised and connected but limited activity, unable to use the internet. When trying to repair the network It seems to get stuck when renewing the IP address. It is currently showing a 169. ip address. If i run ipconfig/release it changes to all zeros, ipconfig/renew does nothing. I was previously using aol to connect to the internet and norton. Both are now uninstalled. I would like to use IE to surf and I have panda software to install for security. I have two other laptops which both connect no problem at the same time. Any ideas on how to fix???

Thanks in advance!!

My high-school age niece's laptop was so messed up, it would no longer work properly.  I used malwarebytes antimalware to detect and eliminate any virus or malware, then deleted any software that I did not recognize.  She said that IE did not work, so I deleted it also...with the intention of downloading the newest version.  I left Google Chrome on the computer.  When I tried to access the internet, via ethernet cable, I was not able to get online.  The error message said the computer was not able to connect to the proxy server; but, it showed that the computer was connected to the internet....Google Chrome would not connect to the internet provider, however.  I tried several things; nothing worked.  Can anyone help me?

A:Problem with Proxy Server; Unable to connect to internet

Hi  Open the chrome browser >>  Next  once Chrome is open then in the top Right hand corner of the browser ( below red cross) you will see 3 lines horizontal to each other . Click the 3 lines and open browser options >> Next > click  Settings >>> Next  scroll down till you see Advanced Settings and click Advanced Settings >>>>  Next scroll down to where it says Network >> Next click  Change Proxy Settings >>>> Once inside Internet Properties  Click LAN settings >>>> Make sure that  " Automatically  Detect Settings "  and click OK ...   Close the Browser and re-open Chrome and your home page should be displayed as normal .  Also if you have uninstalled IE ( internet explorer ) You can run Windows update and it should realise that IE has been uninstalled and offer the program via Windows Udate again . Failing that here is the link for IE 11 download.   http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/internet-explorer/ie-11-worldwide-languages                    Hope this helps                                Checkurtech

I just installed a freshly clean windows 7 ultimate 64bit.
When I tried to connect to the internet it says I need to install a network drive or something. I've done that but it still can't connect to my modem. It doesn't even detect any connection coming from the modem and I'm connected through a ethernet cable.
Any ideas on how it can be fixed?

A:Unable to connect to internet cause of network adapter problem.

go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc right click the devmgmt.msc icon in the Search Results and Run As Administrator. In the Device Manager do you see any devices with yellow marks? If so, these devices need to have drivers installed. If you have a name brand computer (Dell, HP etc) go to the manufacturers Support/Download Drivers site and type in your service tag # or your make and model # and download the Network Adapter for your specific computer. And any other drivers you need.

Hi,
Recently had wireless router problem. Spoke to Isp and problem seems sorted.
However, although both laptops are finding and connected to the wireless network and showing 'excellent signal', only one is allowing me to open browser pages.
(The problem laptop was hard-wired to the router to sort the original problem, so am hoping it's just a setting that needs changing?)
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

My pc with Vista can connect wirelessly to the router but can not go on the internet, the signal is strong. I can connect via cable. My old xp pc can connect wirelessly using the same adapter that I use for my Vista pc. Having surfed some forums, I find this to be a common problem amongst Vista users. I have read that by doing something with your MAC address you can solve the problem (clone it?). My question now is as follows:

What is this MAC address thing?
And what do I have to do with it to make my internet work?

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

Hi All

I have had a search but cant seem to find anything related so hope someone can solve this for me.

Since I had a new server & software installed my internet connection intermittently drops and only a server reboot will get it going again (tried the router option) which takes about 10 mins (anyone know of a better solution to reset internet?)

Sometimes it is only a partial drop and we cannot access some websites like uk.msn.com but can access hotmail.com it seems pretty random as to what I can and cant access.

The problem is network & server wide and workstations have AVG but server only has the windows firewall.

I'm not sure what is going on here. I can pull up some websites Yahoo, Google, Myspace, but others I can't. Example, for some reason I can't go to pof.com or weather.com at all! It comes up in IE8 as page can not be displayed. On Firefox it comes up as page timed out. I tried to ping it in cmd, and it just says timed out.
I have checked the firewall settings, the internet options settings, my virus protection settings, and there are no signs of any blocked sites. My antivirus program is showing there are no virus'. I'm not sure what to do at this point. It's just frustrating that I can go to some sites but not all sites.
Any suggestions?

I am unable to connect to websites, but I am connected to the internet. And if I load up a program that can connect to the internet, it connects fine without any problems. I have tried turning off my firewall, but that was not the problem. Neither was turning off my anti virus program. Also for what it is worth, Norton Anti Virus has never been on the computer. Also, none of the other computers, that are in the same network, are having this problem. I am posting this from a PS3, isn't technology wonderful? I couldn't find the right section to put this, so i put it here.

I don't know what's wrong, but I can't connect to .co.cc websites. I don't think its a browser problem because I tried 3 browsers. Chrome, Firefox, and IE.

On Firefox, it says something like,
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

I have windows 7 on my computer.
I also have windows 7 on another computer and it can connect to these kind of websites fine.

Hi Gunnartthehunter! I am having the same issue you were having and have read all communication between you and Curt down to #21 where you resolved the problem. I am having a problem understanding some: first of all, how do i get to the router homepage on the computer and should I be doing this from the laptop or the desktop (from what I understand this is from the desktop) Do I just write the address number in the address bar? Second question, what exactly do you mean when you say you plugged in the broadband cable at the last minute? Can you go into more detail for my non computer understanding self. I am not familiar with all this.

I have recently begun to have problems with Internet explorer. When I try to visit a web-page (google for instance) I get an error message saying :

'http://www.gooogle.com/' is currently unavailable.

I can connect to the internet via other web-browsers (Firefox for example). I have recently disable several from starting up using system configuration -> Startup tab, but don't believe any of them should be having any effect on IE. Here is the list of the stuff I disabled:

Adobe Acrobat (Reader_sl.exe)
Dell Support (DSAgnt.exe)
Google Desktop (GoogleDesktop.exe)
MS Sidebar (sidebar.exe)
RealPlayer (realsched.exe)
WinampAgent (winampa.exe)
Adobe Reader Speed Launch (Reader~1.exe)
WinZip (WZQKPICK.exe)

Does anyone have any ideas?

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, with 1GB of memory, and a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo processor.

Thanks,

Britt

A:IE cannot connect to any websites

Update: Before you ask, yes I did trying having all those programs (system configuration->startup) and it still has the same behavior. Just noticed that there were several windows updates recently

4 Update for Windows Vista (2 on 8/31, 2 on 8/30)
Windows Update Software 7.0.6000.381

Not sure if any of those could have caused it.

BTW, my computer is a Dell Inspiron E1505.

Thanks,

Britt

Hello, a few months ago I had what I believe to be a rootkit which I successfully got rid of thanks to members of this forum. However since then, for some reason I can't connect to certain webpages. When I try to go on, for example, Gamespot, there is a white screen for about a minute telling me it is loading, and then it says something like 'the webpage timed out'. This happens to me with about a 1/4 of the websites I visit and its become a real pain. The strange thing is, if I run these websites through a proxy, they usually work fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:Cant Connect To Websites

Your problem may or may not be malware related. Suggest you run the Windows One Care Free Scan. It will clean your temp files, logs, scan for malware, and clean your registry. http://safety.live.com/site/en-us/default.htmAlso, suggest you install and run Super Antispyware:http://www.superantispyware.com/If you find malware that the above programs can't remove or if you are still having problems, please post back.

The computer reports that it is connected to the internet. The computer will not connect to any website.AVG reports no virus.Malware reports no malware. The drivers were loaded by The Geek Squad in mid-September when it wouldn't recognize the printer. The computer worked OK for a couple of days, then stopped doing the internet. I suspect I hit some "switch" inadvertently, but haven't been able to undo what I did or discern what the failure is. Purchased the computer in April. It was inactive from mid-June to lat-August.

I've been having problems for the past couple of weeks trying to connect to some websites. It is only SOME, not all websites. It will either say that it is taking too long to connect or that the website is experiencing problems. I have no idea where to start as i am pretty clueless when it comes to configuring/repairing network related issues. Please help!

Hi, I've attached a file that is a screen shot of what happens when I try to use my son's computer to go to certain websites. His computer works fine with some websites, but not others. Specifically, it does not work with google.com.

Would someone be able to guide me on how to fix this problem? Thanks =)

A:I can't connect to many websites

Appears to be a Chrome problem, https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/4454607?hl=en .

I would just use another browser, there doesn't seem to be any correction taken by Google.

Some report that this is the result of a failing CMOS battery or inaccurate system clock, https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/igeIjRdUN64 .

I'm having problems connecting to certain websites. We have 3 computers in the house, all running W7, all going through the same router. Only one is having the problem; the other 2 connect without issue. On the affected machine, I can connect to all websites without problem when the machine is first turned on. After the initial connections, certain websites time out when try subsequent connections. Occasionally (but rarely), they will connect after multiple re-tries. Two sites that experience this problem are: www.zerohedge.com and SOTAwatch2 The vast majority of websites I go to do not have a problem. This has been going on for about 6 months. I've tried every anti virus support I can find, a bunch of on line suggestions, but nothing seems to help. Very strange. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Best I can say is concentrate on 1 browser at a time and test,
I would prefer to turn off a setting in Chrome and try to use Internet explorer at first
Open Chrome and go to settings and advanced settings,
All the way at the bottom see if Continue running background apps when Chrome is closed is checked if so Uncheck it and save and close Chrome.

Then open ie like this,
Click start and type in the search box
internet explorer and click on the No Add-ons suggestion on the list
or type in
iexplore.exe -extoff
Test the site for a while and report back.

If it helps a bit review your ie browser add-ons and Chrome's Extensions.

A:Something is trying to connect to websites

It found Trojan-Spy.Win32.Pophot.aww!A2 and killed it. I have been on the internet for a while and haven't had any attempted web accesses so far. I will keep everyone updated. This is the only program I ran that found anything.

After dealing with a different problem (that may be related) all day, that problem being network was unidentified. That problem didn't let me connect to the internet at all, only local. I set up a static ip, and that identified the network but I was still not connected to the internet and only local. After trying to ping I found I could ping ips, which then connected me to the internet, but I couldn't ping websites like google or yahoo. I tried changing my DNS but to no avail, and I am at a loss here. My other computer is connected to the modem through ethernet just like the broken one, and has no problems. I'm on vista.

A:Cannot connect to certain websites

Could be several issues -- you may need to flush your DNS cache, your HOSTS file might be corrupt, or your firewall settings are off.

Hi, I've noticed this problem once before, and at the time I emidiately thought malware,
but after checking other computers which were firewalled as well along with virus protection,
I don't think it is malware related...
Here's the problem: all of a sudden every time I try to connect to a website, it returns a dns error saying the server must be down...
I tried pinging google, and it timed out with 100% loss. I checked other computers, and same thing.
I came back to my computer and noticed msn is still connected and I could still chat, so I have at least some kind of connection to the Internet...

I tried restarting the router, and it is still doing the same thing...
I check the router status and it is fully connected, and so is the local networks( no limmited networks or anything).

So does anyone know what this could be? A faulty router perhaps?

A:Can't connect to websites.

After running diagnostics in the router interface, it resulted with the following as failures:
test ATM OAM F4 segment ping
and
Test ATM OAM F4 end-to-end ping

both of those had failure listed next to them.

What could this mean?

There are websites which I visit daily, that I can't seem to connect to anymore. For example, the GameFAQs message boards. I can get to the home page, but when I click the message board link I get a "Page cannont be displayed" error, this happens on both of my PC's! Why is it happening? It happens in every browser, and with firewall on or off.

A:Cannot connect to certain websites

Download WinsockFix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

If that doesn't fix it......

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

I have just rebuilt a laptop for a friend. I downloaded the latest drivers for the wireless connection from Acer website. They have installed correctly.

I can connect the laptop to the router by wireless and I can browse the local network and see the other PC's BUT the internet is shown as not connected. Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit. Other wireless devices (iPad for instance connect to the internet fine).

I have re-booted the router.

Anyone got any ideas?

A:Solved: Unable to connect to internet but can connect to router.

Same with an ethernet connection?

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following commands:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

ping 8.8.4.4

ping yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi there, I'm having a bit of an issue with one of my computers. It's fairly new, running on Windows Vista.

I am able to connect to a wireless router (Belkin), but I am not able to connect to the internet on this one particular computer. Another desktop computer on the network is able to access the internet. I just get the error "Internet Explorer cannot display the page" on the laptop whenever I attempt to open IE.
I've read through quite a few similar problems on other sites, but have yielded no solution. Any suggestions?

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Please understand your severly infected and this will take a few steps to remove. Both XP and IE6 need the latest service packs and security updates installed!! This is a major cause of your infection.

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the log?..

If you have a highspeed connection please Run an online virus scan from TrendMicro Please select the ?autoclean? option when prompted to do so.

Download DelDomains.inf
Right-click and select..... Save Target As

To use: Right-click and select....... Install (no need to restart)
**Note** This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone"

Download and install CleanUp http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

Download Hoster http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/Hoster.exe

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Please make sure system restore is enabled by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn OFF System Restore and make sure it?s NOT checked. We want system restore ON and monitoring your current hard drive. Once your clean we will turn this off and then create a new restore point.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Open add/remove programs and remove any of the following if listed.

AutoUpdate
BullsEye Network
Internet Optimizer
SpywareNo
TheSearchAccelerator
WebSiteViewer
WinTools

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be but make sure)

C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msxct.exe
C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\vssups.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Application Data\tiar.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\stiocmgr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\vxgamet2.exe
C:\Program Files\CxtPls\CxtPls.exe

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

So before this gets locked or moved, this DOES NOT appear to be a browser-related problem, since it spans all my browsers.

When I try to access websites like Facebook, or Hotmail, or Twitter or LiveJournal or pretty much anything that requires a log in, my browser simply tells me that the webpage is unavailable. Chrome says that along with an Unknown Error.

Skype's browser-based functions are also inaccessible.

I've given full access through my firewalls, and I have also tried setting everything to default. Windows Firewall and Norton Internet Security don't seem to be the problem, and of course I cleared my cookies and made sure they were set to be allowed.

I'm stumped, and it really is an annoying problem.

Any ideas, folks?

EDIT: Funnily enough, I guess it's letting me login to THIS website. The rest aren't still. What the dilly?

A:Unable to log-in to certain websites

I don't mean to be the general help giver and not really answer your question but I've seen this happen before (to me) and it was mostly just something to do with the sites. i.e. facebook and youtube updates, etc. (and IMDB is usually a slow/laggy site to begin with, so I rarely visit it)

For me...and again I don't mean to not really answer your questions...I found that just a little bit of time was what fixed the problem for me, giving the respective websites time to fix little bugs in their updates, or iron out all the kinks of a recent patch.
