Power options always reset to turn off monitor in 20 minutes

Q: Power options always reset to turn off monitor in 20 minutes

No matter what i do, my power options always revert to shutting off my monitor in 20 minutes. I've tried reinstalling windows, i've tried going to the command prompt and reseting power schemes to defaults, nothing works.

Using windows xp media center edition here.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I know this has been asked a million times on the web already but its seriouslly annoying me now.

Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) keeps turning the monitor off after 15 Mins of in-activity.

However - before it does that at 14 Mins and 30 Seconds it sorta does a quick flash - then at exactlly 15 mins does the turning off.

All the power options are set to Never. (I have even created my own power plan for this)

I have never had this problem on this PC before - this is a new install - and since then it has been doing this.

(That makes me reluctant to think its the BIOS or Video Card)

Any ideas would be most welcome?

Thank you in advance.

Timez

A:Monitor keeps turning off after 15 Minutes(Power Options are on Never)

Hi I think it might be your monitor's setting. Also check in the monitor's menu if you have any power saving options enabled.

A:Power reset now, PC won't turn on at all

We just had a nice line of storms come through a few weeks ago.

I was extremely busy replacing motherboard and PSU combos on various customer computers, mind you after having fixed them, I STRONGLY recommended they buy a decent surge protector.

Turns out all but one were running straight out the wall.

I've come across one scenario where the motherboard survived a PSU failure, luckily for me that was mine about a month ago.

Generally a PSU fails, it takes the motherboard with it, if you have any other motherboard that will jive with your hardware, swap it out.

Does it actually turn off the GPU, or just the output of the GPU to the monitor so that your monitor turns off by itself.

So if your computer sits idle with a high-end GPU, will is still waste electricity from the GPU churning? Or only the CPU is working?

I set my screen saver to blank after 4 minutes and my monitor to power down after 5 minutes. After 4 minutes I hear the Windows seven default sound for log off (I think) and the screen powers up but the blank screen saver stays on. This only happens when I have a check mark by show the welcome screen when the screen saver wakes up. Like I said, the screen saver does not show the welcome screen, the power just comes back on the monitor. paj692

A:after 4 minutes monitor wakes up from power saver mode

I'm not really sure what you are after, but if you don't want a screensaver, why not set it to "none" instead of "blank" That way there is no time factor involved, and the welcome screen will appear normally.

Basically what the title says. I have my power options for my monitor timeout set to never turn off. It's a desktop, and I think I can trace the problem to a certain program. I have Arcsoft Totalmedia Theatre installed for playing BluRay movies and when I run it, it changes the display options back to Windows Vista Basic. It would seem that the power option changes itself back after I close this program and Vista goes back to Aero mode.

Any ideas what I could do to fix this? I use the program a lot and I absolutely hate turning my monitors back on.

A:Vista turns off monitor even though power options are set to never

I would remove Arcsoft Total media Theatre, then reset Vista, defragment, and reboot, then reinstall ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre, and see if it will behave next time.

I have my monitor to turn off after 45 minutes in Power Options, but it turns of Much quicker. My screensaver is set to display after 10 minutes, the monitor shuts off less than a minute later, before the entire screensaver plays once. There is nothing else anywhere I can find that would cause this to happen. Password Protect on Wake is not set to enable. so that is not it. I Googled the problem but only Windows 10 results showed up in Google. There was nothing regarding this problem and Windows XP. Even adding "Windows XP" in quotes did not seem to phase Google into forcing a "Windows XP' only results.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

I have screensaver off in Win 8, now 8.1, but in power options (high performance) I've set the monitor to turn off (go black) after 20 minutes of inactivity. Normally, when I come back to the computer, tapping the Escape key brings back the desktop in short order. However two times lately, one about a week ago in Win 8, the other just now in 8.1, there's been no screen response and I've had to shut down the computer and reboot. It's the monitor not responding, not the computer, which for example just now was still playing music at Spotify when I came back. I assume it has something to do with power options, but I can't figure out what. Any ideas? Thanks,

Last night my HP Pavillion 20xi monitor was working perfectly fine. When you pressed the power button the power led would come on. Now, it won't turn on.When I plug the monitor in the power led on the back lights up, but when I press the power button the led above it doesn't light up like it should and the monitor won't display anything. I've tried switching power cables, and plugging it into a different outlet but nothing works. Should I just give up on the monitor?

A:Monitor won't turn on, still gets power

Hii Katina2I understand that your CPU works fine but monitor does not work. I shall suggest you some steps. Please try these and tell me if they work.First of all remove the CPU side panel. On the motherboard you should see CMOS battery. It looks similar to the battery in wrist watch. Remove that battery by shifting the lock. Now remove your RAM. You must see golden strip on your RAM. You should rub that golden strip with pencil eraser carefully. Do not touch anything else on RAM.Now insert the RAM and CMOS battery. Power on and wait for 2 minutes and then turn on your computer. Please try above steps and let me know what happened.

LG Monitor W2242T

We had a blackout & when the power returned my monitor didn't.. it's flashes the LG logo on a black screen if plugged into the PC or not..any ideas ??

A:LG monitor won't turn on after power outage

There is a always a possibility that the monitor is fried due to high-voltage kickback which, according to Lenz's law, can happen when blackouts occur. Although, this seems rather (if not very) unlikely if the house/wall socket is well-grounded.

Does this screen always behave like this when plugged into a PC?

Does the screen even display an image? (Be specific, what does "flashes the LG logo on a black screen" mean?) Because if the screen IS displaying an image, it might just be the VGA-connector. Or, hopefully not, the "screen-recognizer"... :dead:

Does anyone know of a keyboard shortcut or some such way to make the monitor turn off earlier than what the Windows power option setting does?

For example, I have my computer set to automatically power down the monitor after 10 minutes of inactivity. But, if I'm done using it for a while, before I walk away, I'd like to be able to do a (Windows key)-M, or something and have the monitor immediately power down. Why wait?

I have an older Belkin F6C1500-TW-RK UPS and the mfg has not offered software management for the Win 7 64bit OS. I want to let Win 7 manage the battery and shutdown. I set the High Performance under Power Options to turn off display and put the computer to sleep after 3 minutes as a test. I yanked the input to the UPS and nothing happens and I went at least 5-6 minutes (didn't time). The battery icon in the sys tray stated 2 minutes remaining and never moved.

I have connected the UPS via USB and the Device and Printers, USB Input Device show the drivers are fine and the UPS is working.

Am I misunderstanding what Win 7 will do on its own without mfg monitoring software?

The attached are screen shots how I set the advanced settings

A:How to set Advanced options in Power Options (64 bit Ultimate)

Welcome to 7Forums!

With those options, you can set how much time windows will take an action after you are not taking any action
So if you set 3 minutes for turning off the screen or going to sleep and leave it alone it will scedule these action after 3 minutes.
I don't really understand the part where you explain that the timer stopps. I do not recommend setting the same values for both options under 'on battery' or 'plugged in' state.
I would just increase the 'on battery' / sleep time to 5 or 10 minutes and see if it works.

Cheers!

I have had my Hp laptop for 3 years now. It has been working perfectly, up until 2 weeks ago. It would not turn on when I clicked the power button. After clicking the power button, 15 minutes later I noticed it just came to life. Sometimes it doesn't turn on at all for days, but sometimes I click the power button and it boots within 15-30 minutes. When i click the power button, nothing happens at all for that duration. No fans, no lights nothing. The only light on is the power cord button that is always on when i plug it in. I did replace the power cord, and tried cleaning out the insides, it did nothing. Should i just replace the motherboard?

Ps. Hp pavilion dv6-6c43cl

See if your mobo has a power switch on the actual board itself. Power it on that way and see if the problem persists

Hi,

I manage a fleet of 200 linx 8 tablets all running win 10 home.

I need to issue a 'fix' that HIBERNATES the tablet rather than entering sleep when pressing the power button

I will need to do this programatically - bundled within an .exe that I'm building - so the solution would ideally be an import of a new reg key....

BUT what do I need to change and where?

I think whatever I do, I may also need to enable hibernation, and disable connected standby. Also, as it may sometimes be mains and sometimes battery powered, cover both power scenarios.

Apologies if I am repeating a previously asked question.

many thanks

Hi all, and thanks for helping.

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop PCG-GRX570, using XP Home. Some time ago, for no reason I can fathom, my Power Options Applet stopped offering me the chance to change Power Schemes settings! When I open it, the Power Schemes window is blue and I can't type anything into it, and there are no settings available to choose. I can change the Alarms, Power Meter, Advanced, and Hibernate settings, but can't set any Power Schemes. As a result I can only run full power which as you can guess drains the battery fast. Any ideas to repair this? Can I reinstall the Power Options Applet easily?

Best,
Jim

A:Power Options Corrupt (power plan unavailable)

Well, I'm quite amazed not a single person has replied (funny how my other problem has gone unanswered too). Guess I must have very uncommon problems!

I'm glad to say I've managed to fix it though. As described on a website somewhere, someone else managed to fix it by restoring the registry keys associated with it.

I decided to export the ones on my mum's laptop, delete mine, and then import her's to mine. It seems to be working fine! All Power Options are back, I can change how my PC shuts down, and I can Sleep now! And this was all without a restart. I'm guessing I can Hibernate also; I'll find out when I want to turn my PC off later.

If anyone else has this problem and needs a copy of the registry keys, I can send you them (I believe they work regardless of the computer. I had concerns because it was a laptop, but it seems fine). I'd rather not post them publicly as I am not sure of the sensitivity of them.

i installed monitoring and filtering software on the computer.
my kids just restarted the computer and choose refresh and it was gone.

i know that there is a way to not allow using the system refresh with group policy and regedit hacks but i would not like to have to go down that road.

so the question is how can i control what the restore and refresh settings do?

thx

A:addressing reset and recovery options

Hi jogold and welcome to Eight Forums,
Actually i dont think so there is a way to controll what refresh and restore option does cause they have simple function:
_The refresh option removes all the 3rd Party software contents and reset all your windows settings but it doesnt remove your windows store apps, and you can roll back by a restore point from this.
_While the restore option remove evrything and reset all windows settings ad put your windows to stock like when you bought it, and all the restore points will be removed.
So i dont see any reason why do you want to controll these 2 settings.
If you want to get that monitoring software back go to restore to an earlier point center and follow on screen instructions, or refer to this article:How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC - Windows Help

Hello

Internet options > advanced tab > reset button.

What are the things does pressing this reset button do, do you loose your favorites is the main thing.
I am not to bothered about loosing favorites in the favorites bar, and buttons that i have added.

But generally what things does pressing the "reset" button do or "reset"

IE 8.0.6001.18828

I've not got a problem as such, but IE will play up "now and then" so i will just switch to firefox,

But just wondered if there is something i can do or maybe try, as i do have to use IE as the main browser when i am doing some course work

A:Internet options,advanced tab, reset

I don't think you lose your favorites but don't cite me on that. At work if we cant get a customer to connect we have to reset their IE settings. All it does it starts up without add-ons, less security, resets any proxy's you set. mainy user set configurations. Hope this helps.

One of the speakers 'features' is that the speakers automatically turn off after five minutes of no use. The only way to power it back on is manually via the remote. I'm wondering if anyone knows of some background program that spits out a small (inaudiable of close to it) sound or something that could keep my speakers awake. (or of course if anyone has a more creative approach, I'm in) I've tried quite a few google searches to no avail. The pc is not set to go into hibernation mode, there is not even a screen saver set. I have no idea why this is happening, or how to fix it. Ive tried a system restore to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas what this problem is, and how to fix it?

Recently, I've noticed that if my computer is off, once I hit the power button on the front of the computer it acts totally dead for a minute or more and then powers up. Nothing will happen at all for a while- no sounds, lights or fans starting up, then a while later the computer powers on and goes through startup like it always had.

Can someone tell me why the computer's doing this?

I've defragged my drives (like always) very recently, if that matters.

Any tips are much appreciated,

Hello!

I have an Acer Power F5 desktop running Windows XP SP3. The other day I hit the power switch after it had been in hibernation and nothing happened. After making sure it had mains power and the cord was in I decided my power supply must have blown overnight and went to my notebook. After about 20 minutes, the Acer turned itself on. I had not touched it in the meantime.

I left it on all day then powered it down. After leaving it off overnight, I touched the power switch once and nothing happened. The network connected LED was on, a solid blue. Then 22 minutes later, it started up.

I have done a search but can't seem to find any posts on this issue. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The dumps are suggestive of a 3rd party driver issue - but they don't specify which one.
Please try this procedure to see if we can force it to give up the name of the 3rd party driver:

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your ins... Read more

I have a 3 year old Toshiba Satellite L300, recently it has been taking a long time to turn on. The green light comes on for the power and battery, I have tried taking out the battery and holding the button etc. Sometimes it turns on straight away, other times it can take up ten minutes of me holding the power button to turn on.

Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks

Is the Battery fully charged and does it do the same with just the battery in and or just the power supply?

Hi!My problem consist in start automaticilly a software like (c-cleaner) for example 5-10 minutes after windows 7 is turned on.I want that this action repeats automaticilly everytime i turn on windows 7.Help me because is very important for me!
Thanks!

A:start a software 5-10 minutes after windows 7 is turn on!

You could set a basic script to run on startup loading your program and add any time delay you like
add the flag timeout /t XX where XX is the number of seconds you wish to delay by so for 5 minutes add /t 300

A:Desktop shuts down and doesnt turn off until after a few minutes

1. Welcome to Tech Support Guy

2. I think I am correct in saying that Dell does NOT list drivers for that computer for Windows 8, indeed your post appears to indicate this.
The fact you have managed apparently to find drivers that work - and frequently Windows 7 drivers will - does not mean that Windows 8 will like them and you may well encounter problems, as indeed it appears you are

3. This is what concerns me most
Repair HDD Sectors using a third party bootable program like Partition MagicClick to expand...

What please do YOU mean by repair HDD sectors - as if you refer to a sector listed as a bad sector and it is really IS a bad sector, in that the part of the disc cannot retain data, then there is NO program that can REALLY repair it.

my laptop would just freeze and this is what new i did to it yesterday-----

yesterday i installed malware bytes because my disk space was drastically decreasing and it went to 0 bytes from 2 gb in no time. After scanning malbytes showed certain files that were infected and i moved them to quarantine. This didn't help so i deleted certain files to free disk space.
also malbytes keeps on showing a message that "access blocked to a malicious website with a certain ip address."

But today when i switched on my laptop it just hangs after a while and even task manager won't work, no program would open but it is working fine in safe mode.

I have run the dxdiag,

I have posted this to the games manufacturer, but they have insisted its computer problem, and nothing to do with their game,

The game is World Of Tanks, and they have advised me to run a DxDiag, which I uploaded to them -

I recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I power down the system from the menu, my computer does not completely turn off. The procedure I use is described below:

Click Windows_Start_button > Power > Shutdown

The system closes applications and appears to initiate a shutdown procedure. Everything appears to be shut off, but my mouse is still lit up. I do notice that the fan stops and everything else appears to be completely shut down. When I was running Windows 7 before my upgrade, my system completely powered down.

I have a dual boot system with Linux, and when I power down from Linux, the shutdown is complete, so I don't think I accidentally did anything to the hardware or BIOS.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm pretty sure there is some tweak in Windows 10 that would fix this, but I haven't found it yet. Thanks for any suggestions you might be able to offer.

A:Power down button does not completely turn computer power off

I found the solution on another thread. If you have this problem try the following:
1. Log in as an administrator.
2. Right click the Menu button.
3. Left click -> Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable
4. Uncheck the box next to Turn on fast startup (recommended)
5. Make sure Hibernate is unchecked.
6. Left click Save changes.
The next time you shut down the computer, it will be completely powered off. At least this worked on my machine.

So I have an ASUS P4C800-E motherboard in a system that a built a few years back. It worked fine but the system has been sitting in my basement for a year or two unused.

I decided to take the components and drop them in a new case.

I have hooked everything back up properly (i think) but when I hit the power button, the cpu fan, power supply fan and case fans turn on for a brief second and then shut off. (the green standby light on the motherboard is on)

What do I do?

I think you can tell from my question I am exteremly amatuer at this. Simple explanations please...

A:Turn power on... fans start up then power shuts off in 1 second

With it shutting down after 1sec, I would check that the hsf is plugged in and working. If there is no fan input ie fan speed, most boards shutdown. In addition that the hsf is installed correctly. If it is loose, etc you will have problems. Most of the time when the hsf is loose, it shuts down in about 5~10sec not 1sec. I tend to think it is more of a shorting problem of the board to the case.

If that is not the case, I would attempt to pw ON the system outside of the case. There are complete instructions in a guide at the top of the forum. It is called troubleshooting guide for problem builds.

A:Computer wont turn on with power switch but there is power going through it?

If it is a BIOS setting, removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes should clear it. Since you've already changed the battery more than once, it would seem that is not the problem. Considering what you already tried, it might be the motherboard itself or possibly the graphics card but my money is on the motherboard. Just to be sure do you have another graphics card to test with?

A:Win 7 Power Options or HP Power Manager ??

HP Factory Install is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts won't even run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Everything needed is in the blue link to get and keep a perfect install just like a million others have done without a single complaint.

If you'd rather first try to clean it up you can try these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware
but HP is the worst of all brands for its bloatware so if you ever want to experience native perfect Win7 performance on that machine I'd do the reinstall.

Just a quick question(might seem kinda newbie) for Win7.

Does setting your computer to "high performance" actually make your hardware "maximized". Or is "high performance" just a setting that doesnt make your monitor dim(or shut off) as fast or your computer go to sleep as fast. The same goes for the other two settings(power saver and balanced). Do the power plans actually increase or decrease your computers performance when running games, etc?

Thanks in advance.

I'm using laptop ASUS X43U and VGA ATI Radeon HD 6310M. My BSOD usually appear when i make my laptop sleep for 15 - 20 minutes. Then after turn on, first black windows with only cursor appear and then BSOD started. I just saw atikmpag.sys and time calculated until 100 then restart and after restart i got information "Your Windows is not shutdown normally. There is 3 option : 1. Start Windows normally. 2 and 3 i forgot but i see there is option "Safe Mode". Any solution what happen with my laptop ? For information i always use this laptop for 3 hours. Every 3 hours i make sleep 15 minutes and use this laptop 3 - 6 hours. I guess i must update driver VGA but when i go web AMD and i choose software Automatically and Detect and use it, that software didn't download which right driver VGA for me.

A:BSOD happen every turn on my laptop from sleep 15 - 30 minutes

Hi Nobodies.

This is not an usual situation of a BSOD. I have never seen a stop 0x116 upon wake-up. Though display crash at wake-up is most common, but it comes with a different bugcheck code. Whereas a stop 0x116 is theoretically a display failure, not a wake-up failure.

It also appears from the supplied data that your computer ASUS K43U is having AMD Radeon HD 6310, which is an integrated graphics chip in the AMD E-350 APU processor, not having any dedicated memory.

When the integrated processor graphics fails, it is not a good sign.

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

Follow the "Automatically Detect and Install" option in Download Drivers, update the version of the display driver.

Let us know the results.
* I requested essenbe to have a look at the issue, too.

A:Solved: start a software 5-10 minutes after windows 7 is turn on!

WinPatrol has a delayed start up tab.
It may be what you are looking for.
Ccleaner has it own - 'Enable System Monitoring' - Options > Monitoring.

I was recently working on an infected computer with pop ups all over.  I got rid of everything but one popup Backup Duty Lite.

This was a newer computer running windows 7.

I ran the following tools:

Combofix
Malwarebytes
Adware removal tool
Junkware removal tool
Superanti-virus
Emisoft antimalware

This program does not show up under add/remove programs.

I reset all the browsers.   When I reboot the computer and just let it sit,  next time I checked it, it would have the Backup Duty Lite popup showing.

I am not comfortable messing in the registry.
can anyone suggest a tool that might fix this type of problem?

A:Backup Duty Lite Pops up 15 minutes after I turn on my computer

See if Revo Uninstaller Free can find and remove it. Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Looking a bit on the web it actually installs files of that name...Backup Duty Lite.
If Revo doesn't take care of the problem, do a file search. If you find it, it may be necessary to remove while in safe mode.

My laptop won't start.  I have read through this blog, and did a hard reset (twice) and it still won't start.  I've had this issue in the past and have been able to solve it with a hard reset, but not this time.   What else can I do? The battery still had some "juice" in it as recently as last week, as I was able to use it without power for a few hours with no problems.   Thanks.

A:Laptop still won't turn on after hard reset

Hi there @PaulaEmde,Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that your notebook is not powering up. I am happy to help with this. When it is plugged in do you see a charging LED lit? When you try to power it on, is there any sound of the unit starting, like the fans spinning or the sound of the hard drive spinning up?Do you have another power adapter available that you can try?Have you tried a different electrical outlet?Do you have a direct power connection, or are you using a power bar, or UPS? For now give these a try, and let me know the results and the answers to my questions. Hopefully one of these will resolve the issue, but if not, the answers may help to localize the cause.Using and Testing the AC Power AdapterHP Notebook PCs - Computer does not start (Windows 8)Improving Battery Performance (Windows 8, 7, Vista)

I've tried the hard reset 3 tines, I've replaced the battery with a new one, and still my laptop will not turn on. The white led light starts out white while plugged in, then turns amber, then turns white after a few minutes and starts blinking. If I attempt to power on the laptop while it's plugged in, the led light turns off and does not turn back on until I take the battery out, put it back in and plug the ac adapter in again. Nothing turns on, no fans and no keyboard lights. The only sign of power is the led light. Help please!

A:nothing works to reset, turn on firewall

Hello Carmine,

If it hasn't been to long, you might try a system restore at boot using a restore point dated when you know that it was working may be able to fix this.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

A:BSOD when turn off or reset system

There are unidentifiable drivers and executables in these dump files.
As such I strongly suspect an infection.

Please run one of these free, independent online malware scans (I don't trust your Avira protection to be working properly) to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Malware (read the details at the link).

Please post back with the results of the scan(s).

EVERY time I shut my computer down then start it again I get a blue screen saying it didn't start properly to restart or go through a bunch of options to try and fix it. The only one that works is to set everything back to factory settings and have it re-install windows 10 again. This is getting tiresome and am thinking of taking the computer back and getting a different brand. Is there any help for this problem?

I have to hit the reset button every time I turn my computer on. After i hit the reset button everything comes up just fine. But every morning when i get up I turn the power to my computer on and it has a blank screen the two DVD drives blink and the hdd led stays lit up bright. but then when i hit the reset button it comes up just like normal. can anyone tell me why this is? It's not affecting anything that I can tell just annoying. I do not have to go into BIOS and change anything after this occurs. Windows starts just like normal and there does not seem to be any thing else wrong with my pc.

Thanks for the help guys this site is the best!

Dear HP, My laptop will not turn on anymore. Nothing happens. I tried the hard reset, by unplugging everything. Also battery and power cord. pressed on/off button for 30 seconds. When I put in the power cord. The led next to it, is not burning. Dear HP, do you have a suggestion what I can do to fix this problem? With kind regards,Richard

A:Laptop wil not turn on anymore. Hard reset is not working

If the power jack LED is not on we can figure it may be the power supply. It might not be putting out power. Just about any electronics shop can test its power output. How old is the unit? Still under warranty?

On Win7/64, created a custom power plan that turns off the display after 3 hours. If I hibernate and come back, all is well. Sometime later (in days), and I'm guessing it's after a reboot, it gets set back to the 20 minute default. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas on how get it to work properly and not change the value on me?

A:Turn Off Display time gets reset; doesn't stick

Hi xaivius,

Try performing Check Disk Repair and see if that helps alleviate your computer issue. Here is the link on how to perform a check disk repair: Check your hard disk for errors

Hope everything works out well for you and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
