my roommate has been having problems with her computer. i installed zone alarm security suite on her computer and have done numerous scans. but when she crtl-alt-deletes it says "task manger has been disabled by your administrator" (admin has not disabled it though) and when she opens a shortcut or an application it says "adobe installer" something or other and "installs" something. I've tried finding out what it was but if i can't get in task manger to see what process' are running when the "adobe" comes up i don't think i can figure out where it's running from. any help is appreciated. thank you.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Allows you to enable or disable Task Manager for the Current User
I am having a problem when I attempt to run a downloaded installer. After downloading an installer for a game, when I run the installer, instead of installing the game, my Task Manager and Windows Explorer freeze. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it.
Check Resource Monitor - does CPU, RAM, HDD, etc... pin at 100%?
START | type perfmon /res
Also check -
1. WERCON -
START | type view | "View all Problem Reports" | 2x-click on line item for additional crash info
2. Reliability Monitor -
START | type perfmon /rel
3. Event Viewer -
START | type eventvwr.msc | Custom Views | Administrative Events

How long has this issue beein going on?What programs do you have running at startup? Have you tried disabling with a startup manager, then re-enabling one at a time?Have you tried using System Restore or System Restore from a command prompt in Safe Mode to return to a previous state before your problems began?http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/222634/logoff-task-manager-windows-installer-all-hanging/
I tried to find info on this. One suggestion was to go into the Macromed folder, open the file mms.cfg with notepad and add the line ProtectedMode=0. I tried and it won't allow me to make any changes this way. I wanted to know if I should make the change and if so, how. (see attached screenshot of Task Manager). I am running Windows 7 - 64 bit as the OS. I use Firefox as a Web browser.
You may have more than one copy of adobe flash player installed. To find out go to control panel & click on uninstall programs then tell look at the top of the list & tell me how many copies of adobe flash player you currently have installed.

Every now and then I look down at the task tray ...and whoa!!!! about a dozen instances of Outlook. See attached
What is causing this?
And how do I prevent it??
It just looks as though you have multiple instances of Outlook open. Probably the way you are accessing your mail each time you open a new email.
It's likely that Outlook is set to 'hide when minimised' on the task button.

Anyhow, please run the following tool.
Install Recovery Console and Run ComboFix
Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.
Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are not sure how.
Close any open windows, including this one.
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
If you did not have it installed, you will see the prompt below. Choose YES.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.
Note:The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you
should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the contents of the log (C:\ComboFix.txt).
Leave your computer alone while ComboFix is running.
ComboFix will restart your computer if malware is found; allow it to do so.
Note: Please Do NOT mouseclick combofix's window while its running because it may call it to stall.

I don't mean to bump this, I just would like to point out that i was only able to complete Step 1.
I removed all of those programs that I found, I had to use appwiz.cpl in task manager.
The other steps I couldn't perform because I can't use IE. My system also noted the files as corrupt or not compatible with Win 32.
And I need to use IE to do the online PC scan thing as well.
I'm really sorry, I hope I can still get some help.
Hello Hello all im hoping that im able to get an answer for this as its been driving me crazy and I cant seem to find an answer anywhere online On Saturday my PC was turn on and once logged into Windows Ive found that all that happens is my windows loads into a blank wallpaper that I have wallpaper. bar / Task Manager blank icons/ into task No Loading I have no icons no task bar and I am unable to bringup the task manager ctrl-alt-del doesnt work After leaving for a full hour it still hadnt loaded and still unable to acess task manager I tried a load into the last good config and it still loaded into the above Ive tried loading into Safemode and safemode w netowrking and its the same story The only place I have any acess is Safemode w an active command prompt although there isnt any icons or taskmanager The last resort is to try a repair via Loading into blank wallpaper. No task bar / icons/ Task Manager the XP CD which i still have but before i risk messing anything up id ideally try to fix my PC Is there any ideas on whats happened Its Windows XP with Service Pack I dont recall installing any updates but I do have it on auto-install anyway All help is gratefully welcomed
At the blank desktop press CTRL+ALT+DEL start the Task Manager. Go up to File/New Task (Run) in the Run box type explorer.exe and press enter. If that doesn't work at the Run box or the command prompt type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and do a System Restore to a time before this happened.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/loading-into-blank-wallpaper-no-task-bar-icons-task-manager-654875.html
After the last window's update on Dec th failed my computer behaves strangely I tried to restore window's and network task open not not can Can shut down manager/ update/ manager the system to before the update but now I can not open window's update In normal mode the window update window freezes when opened In safe mode window update does not even open Also my task manager does not open in normal mode A taskmanager icon appears on the system tray but Can not open window's update/ task manager/ network manager and can not shut down the task manager does not show up Also the wireless network manager freezes when I try to access it in normal mode The system takes longer than usual to load in normal mode The system also frequently crashes while starting up in normal mode only a blank screen with a mouse arrow in the middle appears When I shut the computer down it freezes in log out screen so I have to manually shut it down The defragment also will not run There is serveral cases of service hang report in my problem log involving Nlasvc SstpSvc WinHttpAutoProxySvc I'm sure I don't have any malware in my system left since I checked it through the virus removal hijackthis forum as well as multiple virus scans still the problem persist
You said you are sure you don't have any malware left. Did you have malware? And did you have malware when you tried to do the update which wasn't sucessful?
Do you have a cd with your computer?
Which Antivirus program are you using?
Task Manager won't come up with ctrl+alt+delete or from right click task bar? When I right click the task bar I can see the "task manager" option and can click it, but nothing happens.
I just ran a full Nortan Antivirus scan (clean), Error Checking for hard disk (volume also clean), and sfc scannow through the command prompt (clean as well).
My system is:
Microsoft Windows XP
Service Pack 3 (with latest updates)
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40GHz
Thank you for any help you can offer, keep the faith!

I was getting constant popups telling me my computer was infected and to install winantivirus . I ran adaware, avg, housecall, nothing helped. I have antispyware, antivirus, and firewall through verizon (but that started after my problems began)

As my machine doesn't support SLAT in HyperV I am using VMlite XP mode to run some 16 bit programs I need. Very occaisionally VMlite hangs on close after it has saved state or shutdown the guest machine.
I go to task manager and click end task on the Workstation GUI and it closes but very occaisionally end task wont closed the program. Sign off wont close the program either and restarting hangs at the blue screen 'restarting' I have to push the reset button on the tower to get the machine to restart.
Is there any hidden way of closing VMlite so I dont have to restart, a sort of hard end task?
I believe vmlite XP mode is non Ms official software - XPmode is licensed and distributed solely by Ms. Anybody else who incorporates this product into their offerings whether freeware or not runs the risk of serious copyright infringements.
For 16 bit software you could try using a win95 VM - works fine !!!(use FREE VBOX or VMWARE player to create the VM).
I'm not sure but a W98 VM might work too -- there's a generic key on the web and plenty of ISO's --this is now abandonware so the generic keys are legit.
For months I've been having problems with programs not responding, responding slowly, or freezing. When I open Windows Task Manager and select end task, it doesn't work. I want to run scans in safe mode, but when I press F8 on restart, I can't get it. I could previously get to safe mode before all the problems started. The only way I can get out of a program not responding or freezing is to hit the off button, not through shut down/restart. I'm having to do this constantly now. I suspect the computer has a virus or problems with spyware/malware. Bitdefender quarantines lots of temp files, which I delete. Hitman Pro finds tracking cookies, which I delete. Malwarebytes never finds anything. I need help in determining what problem my computer has and how I can fix it.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/566956/cant-start-in-safe-mode-task-manager-wont-end-task/
Recently I've had an issue where for no reason my task bar wont respond and the task manager wont open both times I had to force a shutdown and reboot The first time I was watching a movie after the movie I hit pause and went to open Firefox through a shortcut on the task bar and got nothing this computer can be slow at times as its age is catching up with itself so I thought to Wont and Manager up Task Locks Task Bar Open. just wait a few seconds and try again still nothing Then I went back to the media player and noticed Task Bar Locks up and Task Manager Wont Open. the media player was fully responding and had no issue using Alt Tab I could switch to other programs or folders and they worked fine but the task bar was completely locked I tried Ctrl Alt Delete to try ending the explorer process then starting it up again as I figured that might help but after waiting for a couple minutes it never came up I hit the keys again and still nothing waiting and trying over and over nothing came up so I ended up having to force a shutdown and cold boot The nd time it happened I literally had no programs running except Comodo and the computer had been left alone for about an hour when I returned the task bar was again locked up and the task manager would not show Thanks for reading all this and any help on the subject is much appreciated
I need to know a little bit more... If you can answer the fallowing questions it may be helpful...
Does an error message pop up when you try to open task manager? What are the specs of your computer? Do you have any antivirus protection?
I will open a program, close it, and then when i try to open it again a message appears saying that an existance of it is still running. When i look at my processes i see that it is in fact But when i try to "end Process" it does not close. The warning pops up, i say yes, and yet it does nothing. I can not seem to close these programs. And this causes shuting down to take up to 15-20 min unless i force a shut down. The problem has occured with Opera.exe CCAPP.exe outlook.exe and maybe more. Please help thanks!
I've added task manager to my scheduled tasks at logon. Everywhere I google, they say to put the /min or -minimized arguments in it to launch it minimized, except neither option works for me. Task Manager launches, but just sits there on my desktop.
Is there a new argument for minimized in Windows 8?
I probably should have started a new thread for this, but the title of this one was perfect, so I decided to borrow it for my post instead of confusing people with multiple threads on the same topic.
First, to answer the question posed by the original poster, in case he or anyone still cares: "Minimized" isn't a parameter for the Task Manager itself - and never was; this isn't one of the changes that came with Windows 8. Rather, the old way (which still works for most programs) was to create a create a shortcut to the program you want to start minimized, and then to choose "Minimized" in the shortcut's settings, as shown in this example:
Placing a shortcut to Task Manager in the Startup folder no longer works the way it used to, but the reason has nothing to do with this; rather, with Windows 8, the new Task Manager must run with elevated privileges (in order to have access to all the new information it's capable of displaying), and Windows 8 doesn't allow that to happen for shortcuts in the Startup folder. (I don't think that older versions of Windows allowed that, either, but the old Task Manager didn't care; the new Task Manager will refuse to run without it.)
Anyway, on to the main reason for this message:
This post will show you how to set up Windows 8 to start Task Manager automatically on every logon, providing almost the same functionality as was provided by the old shortcut method. (There are still some unresolved quirks with this procedure, but for me and probably most of you, this is still better than doing without.)
Starting with Windows Vista, Microsoft greatly expanded the Scheduled Tasks facility in Windows; now with Windows 8, it largely takes the place of older features like the Startup folder and the Run and RunOnce keys in the registry, which only exist now for compatibility with older programs.
Even if you're not a programmer, if you need to make your computer do something at certain times or when certain things happen, you should get familiar with the Task Scheduler (which is a much bigger topic than I can cover here - not to mention only peripherally related to the subject at hand).
To set Task Manager to run with every logon:
Download the following XML file to your desktop:
(This file was posted as a text file, because the site won't allow the posting of XML files directly.)If the name of the downloaded file appears on your desktop as just "Task Manager" instead of "Task Manager.txt", you need to turn on file extensions temporarily; see Option Two in this tutorial.Rename the downloaded file from "Task Manager.txt" to "Task Manager.xml".Open Control Panel. The most convenient way to do this is probably to move the cursor to the lower left corner of the screen, right-click, and select "Control Panel" from the menu that appears. (Touch-screen users: you're on your own. )
Select "System and Security" from the window that appears. (If the window doesn't look like the image above, you probably know enough to skip to the next step.)
Select "Administrative Tools" from the list.
Double-click "Task Scheduler" in the window that appears.
Select "Import Task..." from the "Actions" list on the right side of the window that appears. In the File Open dialog that appears, navigate to and select the "Task Manager.xml" file that you downloaded in Step 1 and renamed in Step 3.
Click "OK" in the window that appears.Close all the open windows and restart your computer.
I mentioned some unresolved quirks above, which you'll probably notice once your computer restarts. First, this causes the computer to go to the desktop shortly after logon. Some people will consider this an extra bonus rather than a quirk, but I haven't figured out a way to prevent this for those people who like seeing the St... Read more
You know how after you end a program using End Task in Task Manager, it asks you if you want to tell Microsoft about the problem? I was able on my other XP system to change an option somewhere so it doesn't ask me that any more. I just can't remember how I did it....
Right click on My Computer / Properties / Advanced tab / Error Reporting button
Then check to disable error reporting.
I apologize if this is a really basic question or already answered, I promise I did search, but I may be missing it.
Question; I am installing more RAM in my system, and want to monitor the page file for improvement/reduction in size and use. Other than performance monitor, can I see the page file in either task manager or resource monitor?
In resource monitor you can.http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/45140-monitor-page-file-task-manager-resource-manager.html
My computer had several viruses on it. I removed them, but they left some damage. All of my icons are gone. There is no taskbar. I cannot access the task manager. I cannot access anything. I have tried booting into safe mode, but I get the same thing. I have tried accessing files through the sticky keys ease of access center, but the link is not in the dialog box when I press shift 5 times. I am sure if I could run unhide.exe it would solve the problem it is just that I cannot access anything. All I have is a blank screen with a cursor.
Edit: I cannot right click. I also tried creating a usb to autorun unhide.exe, but to no avail.
Let me ask someone to help you

2-Cups, You will want to remove your e-mail address from this post. Your Adobe Acrobat pop-up should not be a virus or malware from the details you have posted. In the recent past, Adobe has updated Acrobat Reader to version 9.1.3 because of Security Vulnerabilities. These can be read here. You would be best off to remove all copies of Adobe Reader from your computer using add/remove programs and visit http://get.adobe.com/reader/ and install the latest version of Adobe Reader.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/302877/adobe-installer-pop-up/

Hi all, I have recently noticed an annoying pop up appearing on my desktop. When double clicking My Computer or Word, or any other desktop prog, a windows installer appears, then says.... configuring Adobe 7....which I installed a while ago. I click cancel, the installer re-appears, and only after doing this 4 or 5 times does it cancel and then open up my computer. I checked MSCONFIG and closed off Adobe products on start up to no avail. Only recent changes made, were activation of wireless networking and installation of a LINKSYS wireless USB adaptor. I tried a system restore to a point before I made the changes but fault still exists. Any ideas would be appreciated.
A few days ago I noticed my computer began running slowly after a download box for an Adobe update kept popping up. It became pretty clear that some sort of virus had infiltrated my computer and was effecting my search engines like a typical virus does. I did some research and it looks like Im not the only one to have run into some recent problems with this fake Adobe virus.
Can you please help me?
Hy my name is Daniel and I will be assisting you with your Malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while you are follow my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or Add/ Remove Software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all Logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or hereDouble click dds to run the tool. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt Attach.txtSave both reports to your desktop and post them in your next replyhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/460711/adobe-installer-virus/
When I open my task manager a taskhost.exe is there, however if you look at the command line it doest say "C:/Windows/System 32/taskhost.exe", it just says "taskhost.exe" (with those quotation marks yes). Is this a legit file? For other Windows 7 users, if your taskhost.exe is running, what does your command line say?
Has done multiple searches but have came up short on google.com The problem I am having is as the Admin to my system I cannot End Task on programs I normally could. I get an access denied error to end the task. I used to clear out my tasks in the background to run heavy programs like games or photoshop. For some reason it is now disabled.

Hello, and thanks in advance for reading this.I'm also having a problem with an Adobe Flash Player 11.1 installer popping up every few minutes. I ran both quick and full scans of MBAM; I'm also in the process of running TrojanHunter. Neither have solved the problem so far. Many thanks,Pearl
Any particular reason why you don't want to update Flash?http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/446718/adobe-flash-installer-virus/
A Adobe Flash Installer window pops up every 10 minutes on my computer, asking me to install Adobe Flash 11.4. It's obviosly a virus and I'm pretty sure it has destroyed Google Chrome.
Obv; I can't be 100 per cent sure it's a virus, but I'm not gonna risk anything, so I just exit the window every time.
What to do guys?
Perform a clean install of adobe flash player.
my laptop is old and surviving only because of a program named speedfan 4.41... i had adobe a few years ago and if it ran it would create 2 to 3 degrees heat... on yahoo games site adobe flash is used to display ad's so a window appears constantly and starts downloading a 3713 kb adobe flash installer until i click the X ... is there a way i can prevent it appearing by maybe something in security restricted sites ? or some other way ? i use xp pro and ie6 ...
Here's the instructions from Adobe: Stop autoupdate.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/block-adobe-flash-installer-621916.html
I get automatic adobe flash update notifications. Usually I ignore the adobe pop up instead I go into my control panel click on updates in the adobe flash and if I don't have the latest update, I download the update. Today something went wrong. The adobe installer box on my desktop is black the adobe icon looks weird and fake and I can't remove it. I went into control panel and removed adobe from the installed programs but the black adobe flash box on my desktop is still there. I use Mozilla version 31. I tried restarting Mozilla with addons disabled and nothing changed. I have windows xp, mssecurity essentials updates everyday and I run a full scan 4-5 times per week with no issues found. I've never had trouble with adobe updates before. Is this a virus/malware and How do I get rid of this thing?

My version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.0 (I know it is not supported by Adobe) installs sufficiently so that I can use it (mostly). However the request for install the program is still in the Windows Installer. So each time I boot, I need to cancel the install of Adobe since it doesn't do anything, even when I let it run to completion.
How do I find and rid myself of the command that tries to install Adobe each time I re-boot the system???
Windows Vista 64 bit, running on an Intel duo-core system with 4GB RAM.
I had a similar thing when every time I ran a particular program it asked me if I wanted to install it. I straightened things out by using this KB utility. It might work for you too:

Hullo first time poster I read a topic in this forum just last month where someone was able to fix the exact brand of nasty I ve encountered but as I have a different machine possibly at different stages I don t dare try to follow the exact same instructions I have a glimmer of hope now however that someone here can help me Please let me know if I ve Adobe Flash Player Installer Malware left out information you need OS Windows XP DATE OF INFECTION I ve only just encountered symptoms today August th though I don t know if I may have actually been infected at an earlier date SYMPTOMS Every ten to twenty minutes Adobe Flash Player Installer Malware quot Adobe Flash Player Installer quot pops up with loading bar If bar manages to fill an autorun installer screen for adobe launches Only other current symptom is a google search redirect Everything else appears to be functioning at this point However for fear of bumbling into a stickier situation I m posting on my laptop desktop is the infected machine I m currently running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but so far nothing has been detected and I m guessing this won t be enough anyway I m sure the vast majority of people posting here are in similar states of panic but still know how much any help I receive will be immensely appreciated particularly as I m starting grad school in two weeks and having my desktop out of working order is pretty much the top of my nightmare list right now

Whenever I install Adoble Acrobat Reader into my computer it gives my a message:
"Windows Installer is not accessable, this happen for one of the two reasons, 1. window is in safe mode, or 2. windows installer is installed incorrectly or incomplete"
I can install other programs into the computer, like microsoft office or something else, HOWEVER, WHEN I INSTALL ADOBE READER IT DOESN'T GO THROUGH.
What version of Adobe Reader are you trying to install?
And from what location (Adobe website, your system, etc.)?
It seems as if this is an ongoing problem from going through a few threads and searches so you can add my name in the list of infected pcs!
I have tried running AVG, will move the files to virus vault, but it keeps finding new files.
Ran Malwarebytes, cleared out what is found.
Ran Spy Bot Search & Destroy, cleared that out
Cleared out all the browser temp files & cookies, even did a system restore since I saw that suggestion around some other forums.
Still have the trojan files popping up.
Also there is an Adobe Flash Player Install popping up from time to time, not sure if that is related to the trojan virus.
Redirects in Chrome & Firefox, do not use IE.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Sylveon I suggest you to start by uninstalling Mozilla Firefox completely since you're running an outdated version. Once done, follow the instructions below:List Installed ProgramsDownload MiniToolBox and move it to your Desktop;Execute it by double-clicking on it;Check the "List Installed Programs" checkbox;Click on the Go button;Once the scan is complete, a log will open.Copy/paste (select the Notepad, press Ctrl + A then Ctrl + C to copy, and Ctrl + V to paste) the content of the output log in your next reply;http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/564990/adobe-outdated;-installer-freezes;-will-not-install;-fails/
I keep on getting a window that pops up with the above title, & inside the window says...
An error has occurred while downloading the installer. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again. [Retry]
When I press the Retry button (I am connected to the Internet), it goes through some "verifying" step, then shows a progress bar going towards the 3713K, then at 100% the same error message above appears again.
As part of a tablet set up I need to download the above program onto my PC. / Asus PC U33 J series, 64 bit running windows 7 home premium.) The problem is that I down load the file from the adobe website
Digital publishing for professionals | Adobe Digital Editions Home
but then when attempting to install the exe installer file, a window pops up saying that I don't have the necessary permissions and that I need to log in as an administrator. So a user name and password is required.
I check my account type and I am already logged in as an administrator.
so does anyone know what the problem could be ?
any ideas anyone ?
Right click the file, and select 'Run as administrator'.
If the program itself asks for Administrator privileges, right click and go to properties>compatibility tab>privilege level>check 'run as administrator'.
Hope this helps!
I frequently got problem with (usually related with each other):
1. When I open Adobe Acrobat Pro 7 or Adobe Photoshop CS2 that I don't have administrative privilege to run the program after awhile2. "The windows installer service could not be accessed" error when I install/update a program in windows XPboth 1 & 2 problem can be corrected when I did:
a. Run> cmd > msiexec.exe /unregister > msiexec.exe /regserver > restart.
b. Run AdwCleaner program search and clean, reboot.I have Avira virus (complete check daily) and Malwarebytes anti-malware (pro). Right now I run complete check with Dr.Web.I don't wish to uninstall both Adobe programs because I don't have the original CD anymore ...
I posted the problem at malware section, It help clear up some of other problems, but not the problems above. Here the link :

Even though you don't think it's a permission issue, try giving the user Full Control of the Adobe folder under program files.

I looked at the list of sub-forum topics and don't know where I should put this so I will try Discussion a Mod is free to move it to a better place I have a Samsung Series running Windows Home Prem and Norton There was a problem when I attempted to boot up this morning -- Windows attempted to fix the problem but did not succeed -- offered me the option to restore to an earlier version which I declined as I will suspect that might return to when I got the notebook which means I will lose installed programs such as Office etc So after that I can boot software such Office Adobe; Installer runs Cannot and start as Windows up but the problem is that it automatically starts up Windows installer First I receive a QuickBooks message to 'Please Run setup exe to Install QuickBooks' Unfortunatey I cannot locate setup exe in the QuickBooks Program Files folder -- although there is a setup dll When I click the Start icon and 'Search Program or Files' for quot setup exe quot I get 'No Items Match Your Search ' But the real problem is that when I attempt to open any of my Office programs Word Excel PowerPoint Windows Installer opens telling me it Cannot start software such as Office and Adobe; Windows Installer runs is 'Preparing To Install' but after attempting to do so gives a 'Fatal Error During Installation' message Cannot run Adobe either Just in case the QuickBooks install is causing the problem I have no reason to think that is the case -- I Cannot start software such as Office and Adobe; Windows Installer runs downloaded a trial version yesterday and it worked ok I was going to Uninstall it but when I open Control Panel gt Uninstall A Program there is nothing showing for Intuit QuickBooks which I suppose is logical since it is asking me to run the setup exe to finish the installation I will also mention that when I attempted to shut down the notebook yesterday mid-day it went into an auto Windows update screen -- but I had to shut it down because of where I was However it worked ok after that so I do not have a specific reason to figure anything happened at that point but will mention it anyway After my initial boot-up problem this morning I am able to reboot windows with no problem but cannot open Office Adobe etc I am still able to use it for Explorer and Wordpad Admittedly I'm not very tech savvy but I would like to figure out what the problem and solution is to this issue I hope this explanation is not too longwinded figure more detail is better Thanks for any assistance
Hey Lots2Learn, Welcome to Sevenforums!
In order for me to properly diagnose your problem I need to understand a few concepts which caused this.
What restore did you do? Was it a system restore or a Samsung recovery type program?
If presented how far did you restore back to and was the programs you are having problems accessing installed after the time you specified?
Do you have any installation setups or discs for the affected programs?
I am helping a friend with two problems:
1. Upon booting a message comes up that says c:\users\appdata\foaming\adobe\update\flacor.dat cannot be accessed. This appears to be some sort of malware; and,
2. Upon going to the Internet with his AOL access browser the computer asks to install 'Adobe flash player installer'. I have removed Adobe Flash and re-installed it, but it keeps coming up.
I have read all of your prep guide.
Do you think you might be able to help me?
I haven't attached any of the files as I think I am supposed to do this after you say you might help.
Thanks for your time!!

Whenever I try to open pics, clipart, etc. the Windows Installer pops up and says, "preparing to install" and nothing happens.
It will not go away when I click cancel and if it does disappear it promptly starts again.
I have to go to Task Manager and End Task to get rid of it.
This started to happen about the same time I installed Office 2007.
I have been to Microsoft, unistalled and reinstalled Office and nothing has worked yet. It is connected to error 1635 but the fix information I've tried references an HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE line that does not match anything in my reg when I go to edit.
I am a dummy at all this, and would be glad for your help! Yesterday i had a pop up reminder from dell for system updates for my dell inspiron 15 5000 laptop. I agreed to installation, after updates were installed the the computer kept freezing, then it shut down, I got a message saying the system was being scanned and repaired, then I continued to have issues - unable to type anything, click on anything, then after sometime it seemed to unfreeze and I could access programs etc again.
The installation was a BIOS upgrade, but I also noticed ADM installer manager software was also installed during that upgrade. Is this usual? is this software ok?
Any advice very welcome, many thanks!!

Within the last three days my computer running Windows XP has started trying to install Roxio Media Manager. It keeps running over and over again and will not stop.
I have purchased Error Expert to try and stop it but it has not worked. Wondering a couple fo tings. If I totally uninstall Roxio Media Manager will that help? Not sure this would be a good thing but this is driving me crazy.
How do I stop windows installer from trying to install this progam?
Suggest you follow the link in my signature to especially download, update definitions and run Malwarbytes free. There are other cleaning tools in the link Learning each day that should also be of assistance to you.
Let us know if there is improvement,
I've got a situation that seems as insidious to me as many of the viruses I've encountered hope someone can help I happened to open Windows Task Scheduler just for a quick peek and was surprised to see that the Adobe Flash Updater is running every hour It appears to 'trigger' at PM every day and repeats every hour after the trigger What perturbs me is that when I bring up services msc I see that I do indeed have the Adobe Flash Update Service 'Disabled ' When I bring up Task Manager and 'What's Running ' both of these utilities also show the service quot stopped quot So I searched around and found the program FlashPlayerUpdateService exe under C Windows Help Scheduler Task Adobe updates with and Flash SysWow Macromed ia Flash Then I renamed it This was just to make sure that this exe is what's being called up Help with Task Scheduler and Adobe Flash updates Sure enough the next time the clock struck after the hour Task Scheduler showed that the quot requested quot task Failed Hooray But what I'd like to know is what's initiatingthis update Since the Updater is Disabled Stopped as a service it's as though the Task Scheduler is trying to run the exe by itself Sure enough in the Task Scheduler Library there is an Adobe Flash Updater entry But when I highlight it and click End nothing happens When I click Disable I get a message that quot the Keyset does not exist quot and when I click Delete it seems to disappear for an instant but then pops right back on Help with Task Scheduler and Adobe Flash updates the list Can anyone help me get this automatic and grossly redundant updating procedure out of my system
On a whim I started Task Scheduler with Administrative privileges. Then I could delete the Adobe updater from the Task Scheduler Library. I then gave the .exe its old name so I can run it manually. All okay now.http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/304010-help-task-scheduler-adobe-flash-updates.html
I'm trying to free up some space on my hard drive and am looking for programs that I don't need/use. I'm not even sure when I installed Adobe type manager or where it came from. Can I uninstall without major problems to my system? I am running windows ME.
By the way, exactly what does the type manager do? I've never used it. Thanks a lot.
This is about Adobe type manager:
I don't like uninstalling Adobe products, myself. They seem to cause too many problems.
As for clearing your hard drive, have you emptied your Tempory Interent Files lately? Tools | Internet Options. General tab. Under delete Files, DON'T delete offline content
Also, empty your temp folder in windows.
Maybe someone else has some info on Adobe's product. Mind you, its usually Acrobat that the trouble is with. Have you still got the downloaded program somewhere?
Hello can anyone give me the link to download Adobe Download Manager?
I think the Adobe Download Manager is installed when you install Adobe Reader.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/88979/adobe-download-manager/
I use Sony Vaio.. the problem is that a Vaio Analysis manager / Windows Installer window keeps popping up and it suddenly exit without me even knowing what it is doing or installing.
Hello zolboo and a warm welcome to the Forum
I found this on the Sony website. If you follow the instructions it should solve your problem
This is the Vaio Personalisation Manager which keeps track of your favorite music, programs etc. As far as I can work out it is designed to make personalised recommendations of music or other things you may be interested in when using Vaio Media Gallery. Rather like Amazon's Personal Recommendations.
If you don't want this service then just disable it. Go to VAIO Analysis Manager and you will find an option something like ' Preference Learning' - just uncheck it and reboot.
Windows XP SP3 on a PC
Today when I opened Firefox there was a message that my Adobe Flash Player needed to be updated so I clicked the download link but that went to download the Adobe Download Manager which is already installed.
I never got to the download of the update because the Download Manager install screen kept appearing all day.
I went to the add/remove programs to remove it because I thought that the new one didn't see that it was already there and then I'd re-install it.
When I click the remove button nothing happens. I looked in the hard drive but all I see is the Reader but the Flash Player is in the add/remove programs list.
So - how do I remove it or quit the new one from continuously downloading?

I just reloaded a clean install of XP home on an old hand-me-dowm pc. When I try to install the Adobe flash player I keep getting a message saying the download manager had trouble and can not install the player. Is there a way to fix this?
Try this Adobe flash playerhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/617449/adobe-download-manager-error/
Hi, I've been working on my sister's friend's computer: cleaning out viruses, defraging, and whatnot and everything was going fine till now. I have run Spybot, Yahoo Antivirus, CCleaner, and Avast! and have deleted everything that they have found so none of them find anything anymore. But, for some reason I can't use the task manager. If I click CTL+ALT+DEL I can click task manager but it won't appear. Same goes for CTL+SHIFT+ESC as well as right clicking the status bar and click task manager. It won't open. All of them are clickable but it won't appear. I have tried fixes like on Kelly's Corner lines 51, 113, and 275 but it still won't appear! I don't really know what else to try. Any help would be appreciated. The computer is running Windows XP Media Center 2002 with SP3 and has been completely updated. Thanks.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dss.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
Save both reports to your desktop
In your next reply, please attach both logs. Thanks
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here.
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.
I am using an old computer until the one I normally use if reparied. This does not have a lot of memory on it at all. It has just for the day been running unusually slow. I have noticed that I wanted to end a program and hit ctrl, alt, and delete and this shows up as a message Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator. I have no idea how or what that means, because I have not done anything to it. Can you help me understand this and how to enable it now?
Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Hi a general question really If i was trying to locate whether a proccess running in task manager was genuine or not Is there a way possibly with command prompt where it would be able to show the path of where the exe running in task manager is located on my hard Task help. Manager drive I use HighjackThis to solve certain issues and this programme will list a files location on the hard drive is there maybe another programme that would find the location from the information from task Task Manager help. manager ie PID exe An example would be at the moment i was trying to find out whether the process csrss exe was the genuine one or one of the many viruses spyware floating around percent certain its ok and the exe is in my system folder where it should be but an example is how i could check that this is the one running in task manager hence my post Hope i posted in the right section as its related to XP task manager not really viruses Thanks
What is csrss.exe?A Microsoft Windows file stored in the c:\windows\system32 or c:\winnt\system32 directory that has the file description: "Client Server Runtime process." This file Is this file a spyware, trojan, or virus? The csrss.exe file included with Microsoft Windows is not spyware, a trojan, or a virus. However, like any file on your computer it can become corrupted by a virus, worm, or trojan. antivirus programs can detect and clean this file if it has become infected. Because this file is part of Microsoft Windows users should never delete or remove this file if they think it is infected, let the antivirus program handle it.It can be infected like most files - Please download and run Malwarebytes (free) from C net downloads , and re run your AntiVirus -If you do not have one then just load Microsoft Security Essentials (free)Thank You -http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/324273/task-manager-help/

For some reason, I can't view the processes or applications properly.
It seems like it refreshes all the time. Can somebody help me with this?
I notice that "Show processes from all users" is unchecked. Try checking it to see if that cures your problem.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/169693-task-manager-help.html
I would like to know a way which allows me to reveal hidden processes that are functioning on my computer. Some key loggers have the ability to hide even when the task manager is opened. I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me how to reveal them on the task manager.
Every now and then when I try to activate something, I get the following message. " TASK BAR MANAGER HAS BEEN DISABLED BY YOUR ADMINISTRATOR". How do I fix this??
I went to go and check some processes in Task Manager and when I did I received the following message, " Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator". I'm not to sure how this came about or happend..as I'm the administrator. I checked MS website under the Knowledge Base and couldn't find anything..and also did a search on here. Thanks in Advance

if you are virus free then open registry editor [Regedit.exe] and go to: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
set "DisableTaskMgr" data to 0
after cmputer start up mose moves pointer but can not click to get any programes. But found out that by pressing atl / control / delete and bring up task manager all works ok why ?
Allow all programs and functions to load fully. Allow the notification area of your taskbar to load fully. If you familiarize yourself with all the icons that belong, you'll know when it's loaded.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/task-manager-592376.html
after the security patch installation, my computer finally stopped rebooting every 60 secs. but the issue now is i haven't finally gotten rid of the worm. i tried removing it but my task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and run/regedit stopped working since the infection. please advice.
I've seen were this problem came from the msblaster worm resulting in a “MSConfig”=“MSCONFIG35.EXE” entry in the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] Registry key. If you have this entry, delete it.
I don't know if this will fix your problem or not. If it doesn't, the next step is to go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/, and download 'Hijack This!'. Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log as a .txt file, and copy and paste its contents into your next post. Someone will be able to identify the culprit.
I cannot run my task manager by right clicking the taskbar or hitting control+alt+delete. What can iI do to correct this so that I can run the task manager? Thank you.
Has anybody resolved this type of problem before? Can you offer some advice? Thank you.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/284071/task-manager-wont-run/
Windows XP SP1
Task manager will not open.
I am also trying to install Service Pack 2 and it unpacks the files and all and then it says CMD.exe is in use by another application, but I don't think it is.
When was the last time you rebooted?
Im just wondering why when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del the option for task manager is blanked out? Im logged in as administrator so is there an option that could disable it?
Home or Pro? What happens when you RIGHT click the Task Bar and choose Task Manager?
Hey, my task manager all of a sudden stopped working and i dont know why. it dosn't open when i press ctrl alt del or when i right click and try open it. if anyone knows how to fix this or knows of a good substitute for it please post.
Does clicking Start then Run and typing msconfig and clicking OK bring up anything?
Also have you run some scans for infections lately?
I have a problem with my task manager. In the past, when my CPU was running slowly, I would access task manager (after I had ran spyware, adaware, etc.) and find some program attached which would use up all my CPU processor speed (like quickbrowser). I would get onto task manager and eliminate the process and everything would be fine. Today, as I tried to get task manager to boot up on screen, it only appears for a split second then disappears befroe I have a chance to edit the screen. I have tried over and over, but the task manager window just won't stay on my screen long enough for me to access it. Any ideas?
My task manager has lost it's blue bar from the top as you can see from the screenshot. Any idea's on getting it back
Just double click on the gray border.
My task manager wont start up when i press ctrl alt del. Whenever i press that combination a pop up says "Task Manager has been disabled by your admisnistrator."
Plz help fix this
i have a problem with my Task Manager.

Double-click on the edge of the window.
I have a process in task manager that is running and it is called clientsideprox… , user name is owner. I have windowsxp. This process uses 25,428 k of memory. Does any one know if I need this process to be running. Can I end it from the task manager.
Is that the full name of the process?? Go into System Tools/System Info and look at the Startup programs. See if you can see the path of this program. I haven't seen this listed as a "service" under XP
i would like to know why i have so many procesess running on my pc when im not running much
i enclose a screen shot of taskmanager and await your views
A lot of those processes belong to McAfee. Do a Google search for the items and you can see what they are. Everything looks as it should.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/task-manager-124806.html
Before I installed with SP1 Manager Task SP I had problems connecting to internet like it would just become very slow to the point that I had to restart After doing Task Manager with SP1 the SP installation the problem went away for a Task Manager with SP1 while and is now back in a different way For example If I close IE and all other applications there is a very good chance that those programs are still running in the background and when I try to close them using task manager I get the quot unable to terminate process quot error message and that process continues to quot run quot As far as I know Vista and XP SP have a limit on the number of open connections which is so you can have a maximum of open connections at a time From what I ve noticed if I have too many of those quot un-closable quot applications the internet connections becomes slow and pretty much dies because that limit has been reached Now XP and Vista without SP can be patched to allow more active connections but Vista SP has problems with that patch Anyway right now the main issue is that some processes cannot be terminated processes like IE Media Player or some custom applications that I have written in the past BTW I have administration rights so I m not getting those errors on user acounts Are there any work arounds or hot fixes for this problem nbsp
seems like I'm the only one experiencing this problem.
