Windows Installer Window

Q: Windows Installer Window

Hi

I'm having two problems with my computer. I'm getting the windows installer screen always coming up at startup and staying on the monitor until I press cntl + alt + delete and then i'm getting that window in the background or bottom of the screen toolbar.

How do I fix these?

Thank You for your time

Preferred Solution: Windows Installer Window

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Every time I right click on a icon Window Installer will Pop-Up? And it will say:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
Click OK to try again, or enter an altemate path to a folder containing the installation package
'nero.express.msi' in the box below.

I don't have nero? and this does this for every icon I click on ! I can not even install any programs with out having a error or failure installation.

A:Window Installer for Windows 7 U

Hello inkslinger,

Sounds like you may have bad installation media. If you like you could download an official ISO file at the link below, and be able to create a installation DVD or USB from the ISO.

Hope this helps,

The stupid thing is back and can't get rid of it by closing or ending task. It just won't let me. The only way for me to get rid of it is to turn off certain things on the start up. But I don't know why they are causing the problem.

The start up things I disabled are:

hp digital imaging all in one files
HpqSRmon application
hp quick play

I haven't pinpointed which particular file (s) are causing the problem yet. but did manage to narrow it down alittle.

What do I do? I am not familiar with this computer.

Hi,

I keep getting a windows installer popup window whenever I open ANY program. It says that “The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the disk and click OK. There is nothing listed in “Use Source”. I can’t tie it to anything I have done recently.

I have Windows XP SP2

Can anyone help?

Thank you,

A:Windows Installer Window Keeps Popping Up

Hi grandmagail

Do you have Microsoft Office installed?

If so, insert the Office disk and direct the Windows Installer to the disk, for the source.
If it is not the source, you should see a message to that effect.

Let us know what happens.

When Vista starts for me, after it loads everything, it also bring up a window for Windows Installer that starts to load something (doesn't say what, just says "preparing to install"), then closes after 3 or 4 seconds.
How do I stop that window from opening each time I start Vista ? I am assuming its something left over in registry perhaps, but haven't a clue how to find it and remove it.

I use Sony Vaio.. the problem is that a Vaio Analysis manager / Windows Installer window keeps popping up and it suddenly exit without me even knowing what it is doing or installing.

A:Vaio Analysis manager / Windows Installer window keeps popping up

Hello zolboo and a warm welcome to the Forum
I found this on the Sony website. If you follow the instructions it should solve your problem

Quote:
This is the Vaio Personalisation Manager which keeps track of your favorite music, programs etc. As far as I can work out it is designed to make personalised recommendations of music or other things you may be interested in when using Vaio Media Gallery. Rather like Amazon's Personal Recommendations.
If you don't want this service then just disable it. Go to VAIO Analysis Manager and you will find an option something like ' Preference Learning' - just uncheck it and reboot.

My wife's system, inherited from her former job, is/was running extremely slow...slow to load, slow to download web pages. Additionally, an alert window "Windows Installer" is popping up everytime a new window opens (new IE window, etc). So I don't know what I did, but now when I run a .msi file or a setup.exe file, the window I get is either way bigger than my screen or the text is, like, 2pt. Any suggestions?
pictures:
either HUGE

or really small...

A:Windows Installer Window is HUGE/text is super small

Run a full scan with Malwarebytes

Then run SFC -SCANNOW Command

Do you remember when this started? If so try to System Restore to a point before the problem began. The programs which were installed since then might be causing the problem.

I would also want a Clean Boot and to scan logs and utilize System Resources given in these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

Hello,
When using MS Outlook or firing up IE, the "Windows Installer" window briefly pops up, sometimes flickering (as if multiple closings and openings are occuring), stating "Preparing to install ... ". Then the box goes away.

From what I can tell, nothing has installed.

In MS Outlook, this behavior always occurs when I am opening an email. In IE it only happens when I fire up Internet Explorer.

The only thing that has changed on my system prior to noticing this behavior is that I have installed the most recent versions of BlackBerry Desktop Manager and BlackBerry Device Mananger.

Thank You In Advance

A:Window Installer window briefly pops up

Hi Machine13705

It's possible that the blackberry installations tweaked a Registry setting, or didn't complete their installations elegantly.

I'd probably try the blackberry installation again as a first try. Then try running a Registry Cleaner such as CCleaner (in case loose ends are causing trouble --- http://www.download.com/CCleaner/300...ml?tag=lst-0-1 --- the "Issues" section of CCleaner is the one that helps clear up Registry oddballs).

If that doesn't help, for the Outlook behavior you can try Microsoft's suggested repair (in case it's the tweaked-Office Registry setting --- their quick-fix is a "Language version tool" that you can download and try, and they have two other possible repairs as well) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/265194

And, since you are running Windows XP -- you can always try the System Restore tool, using a restore point from just before you first installed the blackberry updates & the trouble started. You might have to reinstall the blackberry update again after this (but you might not! - it depends on where the settings are that were changed).

Last -- anytime you have unusual behavior from your system, it's a good idea to run some malware scans. Use the "thorough" or "High" settings.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

A:Window Installer Pop-up

Hi and welcome,

Sorry for delay.

What is windows installer wanting to install? It should say something about what it is "configuring"..

If you still need assistance, please post a fresh hijackthis log here.

I'd like to see an uninstall list too please.
Open Hijackthis
click "config"
Click "misc tools"
Click "open uninstall manager"
Click "save list..."
Save the list & post it here.

Question....(s)
Since you installed McAfee have you uninstalled Trend Micro Office scan?
I see both running and this might be part of the issue especially if it was a partial uninstall.

Did you install WinPCap? (mabye along side network monitor tools such as Wireshark?)
O23 - Service: Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0 (experimental) (rpcapd) - CACE Technologies - C:\Program Files\WinPcap\rpcapd.exe

I see that being installed by both legit and malware. is why I ask.

Have a friends Compaq PC with Win Home/sp2 on a dialup connection. She had a bad DL with Norton and messed up the internet connection. I cleaned up mess with Norton uninstaller and reinstalled modem but everytime we try to get on internet a window pops up - windows installer. We can get on with Netscape - but the window still pops up - we can access the web. I disablelled all IE add ons but it did not help. I tried to acess event viewer but all I got was "the interface is unknown". I am use to win pro and not sure if Home has that service.

Hi

XP Home has that particular service.

Go to Start>Run>type: services.msc and hit Enter. See if you find the Event Log there and double-click it. Choose Automatic for "Startup type:" and start it from below that.

What does this Windows Installer prompt try installing?
Which program was installed before that you removed?

If I understand correctly it has to do with a previous Office Install or similar?

Recently and just out of the blue, my Excel program stopped working. When I click on any Excel file, immediately flashes a "Preparing to Install" message then quickly that is followed by an error message with the file location, name and "The Windows Installer Service could not be acessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in a safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
All other Microsoft Office apps work fine. Like I stated this just started out of nowhere. I use Excel a lot.
I have Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Pentium 4.
Sorry if too wordy.

Try uninstalling Office (entire suite) then reinstalling it and applying all applicable updates and SPs released.

Hi guys, my problem is what I thought was fairly straight forward. I recently bought an Officejet 6500. I loaded the disc to install drivers and the window is in Portuguese! I checked my regional language settings and it is in English. I even tried other discs to see whether that was the problem, it wasn't. This is the second disc I have received from HP and am unable to use the equipment due to this. I am running XP. Please help.

Where are these links located? Are they shortcuts on the desktop or on the program menu?
Right-click any of the actual links/Properties and paste the "Target" or "URL" contents here.
You may find these programs in C:|Program Files, where you can create new shortcuts.

Hi guys,

I am currently running window Xp home (x86), and i have a problem with my window installer. Whenever i try to install or uninstall something the following message pops up
"
The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running Windows in safe
mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly
installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance. "

i tried re-registering it, window installer cleanup utility is no longer avaliable so i can't use it, and even if it was still avaliable i can't install anything...

Please help me!

Oh! and there's one more problem. For some reasons ever since i got the window installer error, my computer became super slow. Especially at start up, it would stay a blank screen for 4-5 minutes until my icons and the task bar pops up. And even after its done loading, the taskbar freezes

Have you checked the Windows Installer service?

Click Start > Run > type services.msc

Scroll down the list to the Windows Installer service.

Double-click the service.

Make sure the Startup Type is set to Manual.
And,
Please click HERE to run HijackThis.

Select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

IMPORTANT: Do not fix anything

If I just started my laptop and try to open a Word file, the Window's Installer starts and continues to install something. This takes about a minute or two before Word is open. When one Word file is open, then I can open another Word file without Window's Installer issues. Window's Installer issue only occurs when I open Word 2007 for the first time. But, I don't have that Window's Installer issue if I open another Word file as long as I keep a Word document open. This is really annoying as it takes a minute or two for the files to open.

Can someone please help?

Hi,

I'm having problems with Windows 8 since getting caught out installing a root tool (Odin) for my phone. The installer was full of viruses. I have attempted to remove it but some files still remain. Currently my Windows 8 home button is not working after thet last Malwarebytes restart, but when I mouse over it 'Pokki Menu' comes up. I also have a popup installer for 'AnyWhereAccess' that does not look trustworthy.

Logs attached but please note DDS would not run as it gave the error 'DDS is not meant to run in Compatibility Mode'.

I have included the log files from all 3 Malwarebyte scan since the computer got infected. Please advise.

Try copying the file to the C: drive and running it from there.

Also you can try downloading CCleaner from here http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
Download it, Install it, Run it.
Then try again.

I used Revo Uninstaller to uninstall Adobe CS5 extended that had apparently became corrupt. During the final scan of 'registery', apparently Revo Uninstaller removed not only CS5, but all other Adobe programs such as Adobe Reader, etc. Now when I try to install the downloaded (new) adobe reader (for instance) I get the error window "The Window Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact support..."

Problem now is that I can't install any programs. MS help site is a nightmare, especially for someone of my limited knowledge.
Thanks,

A:Window Installer Service could not be accessed

Hello and welcome to Bleepingcomputer!

I can understand your situation and suggest you sit back and relax, because you have come to the right place for help.

My first question is have you tried to use windows system restore?

If you are unfamiliar with system restore then please reply back and let us know and we'll provide detailed instructions for you to follow.

Best regards for now.

It's really very simple. You just purchased a new iPhone and with that purchase you also purchased Apple support. See how good it is and if they care about Microsoft Windows or their customers that prefer to use it with their hardware. Perhaps you already have and are coming here for the support they denied you. There is a recourse -- return the hardware and never look back.

With that out of the way I'll try to help you. Open the Start menu and right click Computer, select Manage. Expand services and applications and then select services. Find Windows Installer service in the middle pane, right click it and select Start. If that works then any properly written Windows application can start it too. If it doesn't start then my apologies and I'll do my damnedest to help you with it! There is one other thing you could try but the chances you could install anything are slim -- maybe the interfaces are not properly registered -- you can try to re-register like this:

Open Start, type "cmd" and look for the icon. Right click and select Run as administrator accepting the prompts to run it. In the command window type

msiexec /regserver

and press enter.

You may need to reboot after that.
it will all start working again

Another thing -- it's absolutely imperative that you install the 64-bit version of iTunes. Most people miss that Apple can't determine 32/64 and present you with the proper choice by default.

I have Windows XP and I have Office Professional 2003. I downloaded the Trial 2007 Office Pro from Microsoft's website, but after trying decided I really didn't like it so I uninstalled it. Even before I unistalled when ever I opened a 2003 application the Windows installer would pop up. Now that I have uninstalled 2007, my 2003 won't open, it is like it isn't there (although I went to the control panel and it was there). The Windows Installer pops up no matter what I try to do, even logging on to the internet.

I went into the control panel where you can add and remove programs and 2003 is still there. I tried restoring back to a previous date, but that wouldn't work.

Can anyone tell me how to get the Installer to stop popping up, and how can I get the system to recognize my 2003 Office Software?

A:Window Installer/Office Professional

Hi,

Do you still have the install disks for 2003?

If so remove 2003 & anything to do with it and 2007 and reinstall from the disk.

The above program runs everytime on all user IDs. The only way to get rid is to Ctrl-Alt-Del --> End Process.

If I don't it then tries to load Corel Paint or Sonic, but can't find source files.

Any help would be appreciated.

PS - would updating installer do any good?

A:Window Installer runs on start-up

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Now make a backup or a Restore Point. You're about to make changes to your system, and if something gets screwed up, you'll want to be able to recover, right?

Locate and run msicuu2.exe to install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
Locate and launch the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility on the Start menu.
From the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility window, scan the list looking for something that appears to be Corel Paint or Sonic related.
Locate the application in the list and click the Remove button.

Once you're certain you've found the right thing ... remove it.

Once the application has been removed, click the Exit button to close the utility.

Now reboot, and see if that didn't make the problem go away. In many cases if you've selected the correct item it will.

I ran a disc clean up and now every time I click on something the Windows installer pops up and I have to wait a few minutes for it to install the program. Everything works after it installs.

What have I done?? Even entering the Internet it has to install before I can proceed.

A:Every time I click on something the Window installer pops up!!

Hello ,

Go to Start/Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Admin Tools/Services
Right click on Windows Installer/Properties.
The Windows Installer service will be started, and the Stop button will be disabled.
Use the drop down box to change Startup type to “Disabled”, click Apply, then OK, and reboot your computer. This stops the service.

After your computer reboots, go back to Services
Open Windows Installer Properties again and change the Startup type back to Manual.

Hello, it seems I got a Trojan in Window/installer/....800000. I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and it detects it, but every time it 'deletes' the Trojan, the Trojan is still there. I also have F-secure Client and the same problem occurs. What can i do to remove it? I have Windows 7.

This laptop is from the school, so in three weeks I have to go get this laptop refreshed. If removing this Trojan is too tough, should i just wait three weeks until the school refreshes my laptop?

Thank you!

Hello everyone This is my first post on the site hope you can help me out Have a problem that just developed after XP comes up on my Dell Laptop Windows Installer starts up just after the Desktop displays on the screen - The Desktop displays as normal and then a window opens Windows Installer attempting to install WordPerfect A second window then opens asking for the product CD to be inserted into the CD drive WordPerfect was part of the software supplied with my pc but was never fully installed by me I attempt to cancel which just starts the process over again The only way to stop the process is to do a CNTL ALT DELETE using task manager Starting Boots? Laptop After Installer Window to end the process The pc then runs normally - In an attempt to correct this I used add remove to un-install WordPerfect even though I had never gone through a full install of the product The product un-installed successfully and I re-booted to see what happened Again Windows Installer fired up this time attempting to install Sonic Manager As before the only way to stop this process was using Task Manager - The only changes I had made just before this problem started was to install the latest version of JAVA and ADOBE along with two Windows security updates all of which appeared to go smoothly - Earlier today I attempted to use System Restore Window Installer Starting After Laptop Boots? to go back a few days before the problem started to see if that would take care of the problem The restore worked fine but Installer is still starting after the machine comes up Any ideas or help would be greatly appreicated Please keep in mind that I am not a pc heavy weight by any stretch Thanks nbsp

Looking for some clue. Running Win-XP SP2 on a E-Machine.

I've installed a freebee called PIXResizer on my wife's E-machine. When I try to run it the window's installer executes, prompting me to "Insert the MS Picture IT 2001 Photo Creativity CD " ??? After hitting CANCEL severl times the installer will finally close & PIXResizer open & run fine. MS Picture IT is installed and runs fine.

I have uninstalled & installed several times but get the same results. I have beem using PIXResizer for well over a year & have it installed on 2 other machines with no problem. Appears to be some kind of conflict.

All suggestions welcome.

A:Suspected Malware Infection: Window Installer Problem

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer. NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Hello I'm David,
I'm new in the forum. As the title says, I have some problem  installing the icloud control panel in windows. At the end of the installation, the installer says that it has not the administrator privilegies to write in C:\ProgramData\microsoft\windos\Startmenu\programs\icloud.
I tried to used (in this sequence):
1- Malwarebytes anti malware
2-adwcleaner
3-JRT
4-OTL
In the following i'm posting the log of the programs (Hijackthis file included)
Can you help me in find what it is the problem?

P.S.
I opened everything as administrator not always the anti malware program even the icloud setup.

Hey Everyone,

I am facing a problem whenever I start the service [Windows Installer]
I tried nearly every single solution available to me like:Using the net start MSIServer command
Starting the service manually
Using Windows Fix It
Using sfc/scannow command to check for intergrity violations [Nothing Found]
Unregister and re-register the Windows Installer
Restart/Shutdown My Laptop

I am also unable to reinstall windows 7 again because I don't have the Disc with me
along with that, I attempted to find window installer 5.0 but sadly, it is not redistributable.

Now, I am left with no choice [I guess] but to beg for solutions from you all.

A:Window Installer 5.0 Service on local computer started and then stoppe

hi,

Method 1
You may try to reregister Windows Installer and check if the issue reappears. To do this, follow these steps:

a. On the Start > Run box, type "msiexec /unreg", and then press ENTER.

b. Then type "msiexec /regserver", and then press ENTER.

Method 2
You may run System File Checker [SFC] scan on the computer which will replace the missing or corrupt files & check if the issue persists.
a. Type ‘cmd’ in Start > Run box. Right click on cmd in the Program list and then select the option Run as administrator.
b. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow

I know I have windows installer installed, as Flashplayer and adobe installed it. Is it harmful, my brother is raising a lot of heck about it. I read the other old forum logs for windows installer and it does not see to be a problem. He also said that he has a program from windows called Trusted Installer. Checked back forum logs, nothing on trusted installer. I ran a search of my computer with no results. He said it stopped him from downloading SAS. He did a clean install and now it downloads and he cannot find no trusted installer on it. Is there such a thing as a trusted installer? Its only supposed to be in vista as he says. Curious about it as I cannot find nothing on my computer for trusted installer, windows installer yes, other NO.

every time me or my wife logs into our accounts on windows we receive a pop up for windows installer and sonic decoder. they cannot be canceled unless I open the task manager and manually stop them I cant think of any changes I have made to msconfig or my registry that would cause this. I checked the event viewer log to see if there was any additional info but none was available. Any suggestions anyone?

My system also seems to be running very sluggishly way slower than normal, I ran a spyware scan Vundo fix and I am currently running a complete antivirus scan just to be safe even though I dont feel that this is malware/virus related.

A:windows installer/sonic decoder installer

so an update to this one....my computer is acting all sorts of weird now and programs are showing up that I deleted long ago....also when I view the audit in event viewer it shows a very large amount of registry errors. I am not familiar with the process to repair a corrupted registry . Is there anyone that could lend me some suggestions or guide me on the right path?

Hello all. I really need your help. I've tried to open a downloaded file - TinyWallInstaller.msi - , but without success. I've learned that Windows blocks opening this and many other file extension types because it rates them as "high risk" or "invalid" with the pop-up : " Publisher Could Not Be Verified". I also came across a simple tutorial that does unblock this, but it doesn't apply to Vista Home Prem. - my O.S. So, that said, I'm looking for a good workaround that will enable me to unblock and open this neat firewall program. My experience is somewhat limited - would hope to avoid command prompt and registry editing if possible. However, at this point I'm willing to try just about anything! Please help!!!

When I first bought my Gateway compurter in Jan. I tried to install Outlook on my laptop. It did not install. Instead, on startup every time, the computer automatically pops up Windows Installer and I have to cancel it. This is a nusiance. I still would like to have Outlook installed but I don't know how to do so.
Thanks.

A:How can I stop windows installer at start-up and install Windows Outlook on my comput

Hey, see if windows installer is in your startup entries:

- Open the start menu
- Type "msconfig.exe" in the search bar
- Press enter to open msconfig
- Goto the startup tab
- Look through these entries for "windows installer" or the path to windows installer
- If you find it:
> uncheck the box next to it
> click ok and restart to check
- If not:
> Post back and i'll do some reading into it

Cheers,
Jamey

Run a full scan with Malwarebytes.

Where did you get Win7?

Is this factory preinstalled Win7, which is a corrupt install to begin with. If so look at Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Otherwise I'd consider a Repair Install if SFC /SCANNOW Command finds nothing.

Keep getting error 1084. I am working in safe mode w/networking.

Really, the biggest problem is the BSOD, but after having it analysed (dmp files), it turned out to be a symantec driver. Need to uninstall it, but the symantec uninstaller won't work until i remove elements of the program with the windows installer... need my computer back

A:windows 7, 64, safe mode, windows installer not working after regedit

Hi,

I am Chetan Savade from Symantec Technical Support team.

I would like to assist here.

In your case cleanwipe is the easiest way to remove SEP from the System but need to contact Support team to receive credentials to download the tool.
Manual uninstall process is quite time consuming however it can be used as a last resort.
Safe mode should help to remove SEP client completely.
Refer this article : How to remove SEP in Safe mode.
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/h...
It's very important to know the SEP client version because many blue screen (BSOD) related issues are fixed in new SEP versions.

Hi and welcome to TSG!

Too bad you haven't had the chance to read the many many threads about staying away from registry cleaners. 2000 errors removed!!! You may have damaged your registry beyond repair.

Whenever I bring up the "Turn Windows features on or off" dialog, there are no items listed to select from. In the event viewer, I see two error messages:
The server {752073A1-23F2-4396-85F0-8FDB879ED0ED} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.Windows could not start the Windows Modules Installer service on Local Computer.Error 1450: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.Manually starting the Windows Module Installer (WMI) service generates the latter message.I have the following applications installed:Visual Studio 2008 ProfessionalSQL Server 2008 DeveloperAdobe CS3Microsoft Office 2007Sunbelt VipreAny ideas on where to start looking?

A:Cannot Add Windows Features - Windows Module Installer Error 1450

I can't take credit for this, but I foud resolutin Resolution - 1) In the registry we must set the Registry Size Limit to "unlimited": HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control Key: RegistrySizeLimit Type: REG_DWORD Value: 0xffffff (4294967295) 2) Reboot 3) As a Administrator open a Command Prompt and run "SFC /SCANNOW". The command should complete successfully and if any errors were found, they should be corrected. ON MY PC IT WORKS! GOOD LUCK!Here is the link for a video, which explain in more detail how to fix this problem!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BQwnmK88Oo

So I, today, reformatted my PC.

After installing some bare essentials (anti virus and firewall mainly) I then loaded up the website for windows update.

I was prompted to install service pack 3 (after the windows installer update), so I did before anything else. After I restarted, I went to the update site again to do the remaining updates, but after they were downloaded, every install failed.

The same is happening with the Windows Live Installer (as I wish to install windows live messenger). However, I could install Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Media Player 11 with no problems.

Any help would be much, much appreciated. Anything I can do to help with the troubleshooting, just say.

Thank you.

[quick edit: Windows was installed with a service pack 2 era disk. Home edition, too.]

[Edit: After doing the method in this post, it now works.]
