View Wireless Network Properties from the Command Line

Q: View Wireless Network Properties from the Command Line

Is there a freeware program to view WZC profile information from the command line? I found one that allows you to display the profiles themselves, however to display the profile properties I haven't found one.

I could also use direct registry edits if I had to, using the reg command. The problem being, that it would appear that the information is stored in binary format, which I've got no idea how to even manually pull the profile name from. The only thing that information seems to give me, is the abillity to later manipulate the order of the networks, that is maybe. I don't need that part yet, but will later on. I guess, since viewing the profiles is so slow, direct registry edits "might" be preffered. This is WZC I'm concerned about, not any third party utillities. I'm using Windows XP, and it's SP2 or later.

Preferred Solution: View Wireless Network Properties from the Command Line

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: View Wireless Network Properties from the Command Line

Researching further, it looks like nobody knows how to pull the information from the registry. I've got Windows XP, so netsh wlan won't work. It looks like this is leaving me now with 2 solutions to get some of this information.

Solution 1: Use some kind of programming API to get the information and display it from the command line. I've therefore heard that there seems to be an interface called the WZC native API. If that's true, how would you use it in AutoIt or in a BATCH file or in a VBScript? I've never used anything like it before, so I need detailed explanations of what the code does, except for that doesn't mean I need to know all the internals of every function. But I need to know how to use it. I know BATCH files well, but I don't really know the full VBScript or AutoIt languages, though I can make some of it's code out anyway.

Solution 2: Somehow maybe use AutoIt in another way to read the properties from the dialog box. I know from research that this is probably possible, but I don't know how to do it. And what I need to do, is hide all that visible clicking going on, even if I'm doing some clicking. That is - hide it from the end user. It's nice to see it moving on the screen, but I'd rather not see it if I were the end user, in this case.

Now keep in mind, that at this point, all I'm trying to implement in these programs, is a way to do exactly what you can already do in Windows XP by default (but it has to be compatible with Windows XP Home, Pro, and MCE), except for from the command line. This is just one small part of a larger picture. I'll then be able to use that command in my other parts of my code that I need it in. So my general rule that I need to follow, is if you can't do it in the Windows XP dialog boxes, you can't do it in this program. If you CAN do it in the Windows XP dialog boxes, you CAN do it in this program. But everything is from the command line, in the end result. If Windows XP already provides a command line, which in this case it doesn't, I should use it. If that's not possible, I should use the registry, but I guess that's not possible if nobody knows how. If that's not possible, I guess I'll try to use a VBScript, and if that's not possible, I'll try to use AutoIt. But the end result is a command line program.

I hope this starts to get me down the right track. It took this weekend to find this information so far.

I'm new to writing command line scripts and am trying to write one that will record time, date, and ip configuration each time my laptop signs on to a network (wireless mainly, but wired as well).

I don't know how to check for a connection in a script or what event is triggered when the network is connected.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi everyone,
In our organisation we are using wireless displaying technology to mirror devices onto our TV's. At present we are having troubles because of a Cisco VPN client we use on our machines. I have narrowed the problem down to the 'Deterministic Network Enhancer'
which is installed with the Cisco VPN which is linked to each network adapter.
I was wondering if there was a way to create a batch file which disables the deterministic network enhancer on each network adapter, I will also need one to turn it back on.
If you need further info please let me know
Thanks in advance

A:Disable Deterministic Network Enhancer for wireless adapters via command line script

Hi Mark
since I have limitation knowledge regarding related product which caused this issue, I suggest you contact Intel for WiDI and Cisco regarding this VPN client
There supposed to be workaround that will fix this issue, I suspect this is maybe caused by version only, try to contact Cisco regarding which version that not conflict with WiDi, if still persist I suggest contact Intel why this certain version caused WiDi
stop
What im suggest:
1. From the hardware site, make sure you have the latest update for processor, graphic card, and network related driver. PC manufactured site supposed to be have this files
2. From the Cisco side, other than update the DNE, ask Cisco regarding which version that might be work with WiDi
3. From the Intel side (WiDi), ask them how to configure this thing so it will not conflict with your Cisco VPN client
I also think this issue will be solved by upgrade driver (related to network), I cant make sure if certain version of Cisco VPN Client will be conflict with WiDi, that's why I suggest you to contact both Cisco and Intel
Please let us know the update, you reply might be help for the others
good luck

I am attempting to add a printer via the command line using a batch file as an admin (to eventually deploy via SCCM TS on Win10):
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /in /ga /n"\\my network printer"
The command appears to run successfully but I am not able to find any trace of this printer in my printer list, print management, or in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE → SYSTEM → CurrentControlSet → Control → Print → Printers)
When I attempt to run it a second time I get the error message "Unable to add the per machine printer connection. Another printer or printer share with this name already exists. Please use another name for the printer."
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I know you can drag and drop files in Windows explorer from you local drive to a SharePoint document folder in My Network Places and I have no problems doing this. What I need to do is automate this UI action using a line command. Does anyone know the line command used by this drag-and-drop event?

I found several suggestions to map a drive letter to the site then simply perform a DOS COPY or XCOPY but my share point document folder is located on a server using a distinct port (e.g., http://asdfgh101p:14676/personal/Reports/) so I can not use the "net use" command to map a drive letter. It gives me a, "System error 67 has occurred. The network name cannot be found" error.

Hello,
this is my second post on this subject but im editing the title slightly ...

im in need of a command or program that'll allow me to view devices on my network that my windows 7 pc can see also ?

im basically having issues using 'wireless sync' via iTunes.

I have a main router where the internet comes in .. virgin broadband...

...and then a Belkin access point attached to the Virgin Router using one of the ports via lan ...

then all my wireless devices in the house are connected to the Belkin AP, not the Virgin router.

when i connect the devices to the virgin router wirelessly, my pc can see them ... all good !

but when i connect them to the Bel..AP, itunes doesnt see them

so im just wanting to see if my pc windows 7, actually sees devices connected wirelessly to the Bel..AP ...

many thanks in advance ...

Hi,

I've had real trouble locating this particular window in Windows 10. The only way I can get to it is if I create a manual entry for a wireless network. In Windows 7 you used to be able to get to it for existing wireless networks that I had previously connected to. Does anyone have any idea how to get to it? Many thanks

The wireless network properties box is missing. I have a Satellite pro 4600 with Linksys card for wireless and every thing worked once before. I replaced the hard drive with a new one and rebuilt the system. After installing the Cisco PEAP supplicant software to be able to logon at the college the box is now missing. I've tracked the problem to the PEAP software overwriting files on Win2000 sp4.
Or so the masters at M/S claim. Their advice was to reinstall Sp4. This didn't work. All of the information I have for configuring wireless cards for Win2000 show this box and it was there the firt time I set up the system. I have reformatted the hard drive twice then Installed Win2000 pro and the Sp3 and Sp4 using two different Install cds. I did not install the PEAP supplicant and still no box.

Thanks Rezehk

Click on Start, then run
type in cmd to get to command prompt
type in taskkill /f kbd.exe

The forward slash /f forces it to kill the process.

Just moving in to this new place downtown. I have been given two options, either get a wireless network card so I can connect to my landlord's line OR apply for a new Telus internet connection/cable (connect to socket through wall). I have never been a fan of wireless connections, but I've done some research with few answers. So should I go for a wireless where I have to buy a new card or pay monthly for a new Telus internet line? It's for my desktop by the way.
I game a lot, multiplayer, and download stuff too.. torrents. Was thinking about wireless how it would drop sometimes. But it's not a big apartment and the main connection is only about a room away. It'd be good if I can get recommendations which to get, thanks!

Greetings,
i'm having an HP laptop with windows 7 installed on it, but cannot view available wireless network. under network and settings i can see the wireless network card, which means the wireless drivers has been installed. but can't view my wireless network but other computers are viewing my wireless network.

Please i need your help.
Thanks

A:WIN 7, laptop unable to view available wireless network

What model is the HP?
Make and model of the wireless card?
Is it showing any wireless networks, just not yours?
Is the wireless card turned on? i.e., Wireless indicator light is on.
Has the card been disabled? No Wireless icon in task bar, shows disabled status in Network and Setings or Properties.
Have you checked Device Manager, Network Adapters to see if any problem indicators show?

I can't get a vista PC to view web pages on a wireless network. It is connecting OK via a Netgear USB adapter with updated Vista drivers and Netgear software but when I try to reach a page I get "page not found"

I have noticed in the IE address bar it is trying to reach a long garbled URL beginning with autoredirectaol%"*%&)$

ISP is AOL.

Could it be wanting to to sign into AOL first?

Norton Internet Security is also installed could this be blocking something?

Still getting to grips with Vista so any help would be appreciated

A:can't get a vista PC to view web pages on a wireless network

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Also...

Changes that may help to increase the compatibility of Vista with older networking devices:

Disable the IP Helper service:

1. Go to Start and type in "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Scroll down to the IP Helper service, right click on it and select Properties
3. In the dropdown box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to Disabled and then click on "Apply"
4. Then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session
5. Click OK to exit the dialog

Disable IPv6:

1. Go to Start and type in "ncpa.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Right click on each network connection and select "Properties"
3. Remove the checkmark from the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
4. Click OK to exit the dialog

NOTE: You should do this for each network connection.

Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag:

Link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233

Go to Start and type in regedit and press Enter.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}
In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey to be updated.
If the key DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag does not exist, use the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value. In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag, and then press ENTER. If the key exists, skip this step.
Right-click DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
Close Registry Editor.
NOTE: You should do this for each and every GUID subkey.

The only program I'm aware of that currently relies on IPv6 is the new Windows Meeting Space. The first 2 changes will cause that program not to work - but will leave all of your normal (IPv4) connections unaffected. If it causes problems that you can't overcome, simply revert back to the original settings.

I have 2 computers (2 desktops, both desktops have a wireless connection to the internet via a Netgear router and USB adapters). Both computers have the same workgroup name and all use Windows XP Home SP2. Both computers connect to the internet fine, however,I can open a file or folder from workgroup computer PC 2 from PC 1, but when I try to access a folder on PC1 from PC 2 I get an error message states that the file is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The network path was not found. Also, when I try to view workgroup computers from either PC I see only the comptuter I am searching from.

Other information that might be useful: Windows Firewalls are on, AVG Internet Security is installed and running on one and McAfee Security is running on the other one. I can ping each one to the othe fine. All permissions are properly set for sharing.

A:Cannot view workgroup computers via Wireless Network?

Can you ping both ways by computer name? Have you disabled all firewalls to see if this is a firewall issue?

I'm am creating a wireless network for my boss and would like to know if i can use a wireless/wired computer with the installed camera software on it to access the cameras that are hardwired on another computer via a wireless router. the computer that currently monitors the cameras is not hooked up to the internet, so im thinking of putting a wireless LAN on it to have it access the router and have the office computer access the cameras via the router. I wish i knew the name of the camera software to give you. any input would be great. thanks!!!

A:Hooking up a wireless network to view security camera images

Yes having a camera would work. Your camera must be an IP camera or network camera. For you to be able to do this you will need to know the brand of the camera so that you could open up the ports [Transfer image ports, Sound ports etc.]

If you like to your camera via:

LAN: This is possible by opening up the browser and typing in the IP address of the camera

Internet/WAN: Open a browser and put in the WAN IP of your router and the port ex. http:66.x.x.x:8080

Let me know if there is anymore unclear to you.

Good stuff, but then there's something wrong with his verbatim copy of a directory... You should add the p option to the tar extraction command, in order to preserve file attributes (ctime, mtime, atime, owner, group) - ie, tar xpvf and not tar xvf.

I use this regularly in order to make verbatim copies of a directory:

(cd /path/to/src/dir && tar cf - .)|(cd /path/to/dst/dir && tar xpvf -)

I want to create a setup whereas a command line command can be run from any directory/folder, without having to be in the directory/folder whereas the command line command resides ?

A:Executing command line command anywhere ?

Add the directory the cmd or bat files resides in to the PATH environment variable.

Quote:
To check or modify the system PATH environment variable, do the following:

XP: Right clock on My Computer
Vista, 7: Right click on Computer
Windows 8, 10: Right click on This PC

Select Properties

Vista, 7, 8, 10: Click on Advanced System Properties on the left

On the Advanced tab, click on Environment Variables
Under System Variables, scroll down to Path
Select it then click Edit

An easy way to look at all of it is to right click on the highlighted Variable Value field and select copy, then start Notepad and paste the data into there. That way you can easily look at all of it.

It's also a lot easier to make changes in Notepad then copy and paste the changed data back into the Path Variable Value field.

Click Ok as needed to exit when done

Into my Videos folder, that Vista set up for me under my user name,
I moved some files from my video camera.
But I want all properties to appear - all at once - without having to go
to each file individually and look at its Details section.

In the HELP file, it says as follows:
To view all the properties

The Details pane is convenient, but it doesn't show all of the properties that are associated with a file. If you need to see all the properties that are associated with a file, follow these steps: Open the folder that contains the file whose properties you want to see. Right-click the file whose properties you want to see, and then click Properties. Click the Details tab to see all the properties associated with this file.
The problem is ==> THERE IS NO DETAILS TAB !!! !!!

Exactly what the title says. When i try to view properties on anything from a desktop shortcut to a disk drive the computer wont let me. No error box or anything it just wont open properties.

I found a question similar to this but the answer required some addres bar in "my computer" (eg. C:/program files/example) but I dont have that on "my computer". Is that another problem? Can it be fixed or will I have to work around it?

A:unable to view properties

Hi Nube, thats an interesting delema. I don't think I have ever heard of this occuring. Let's see if you and I can figure out whats going on here. Now if you right click on a short cut there is usually no properties to click on, but the disk drives should have a properties option. Let's see if its just the short cuts and disk drives or if it's everything. Go to start - control panel. Then click on systems icon. Click on the device manger button. Then choose something in there and right click it. See if you get a properties option there that you can open. Then let me know.

I will monitor this thread throughout the day. If you resolve this problem on your own or with the info I provided please let me know so I can move on to other issues. Also please mark this thread solved using the quick tools option located at the top of this thread.

Thank you

After the current Windows 7 updates when I go to right click on my hard drive c: or even an external hard drive I get the following error "The properties for this item are not available." Here is a strange problem and it really doesn't bother me until I need to change directory sharing or something.

I am running Windows 2000 SP2. If I right click a drive or directory and choose properties, nothing happens. It used to work just fine and I am not sure what exactly happened. I was wondering if anybody has any ideas. I was thinking that the properties dialog box is an API call from a .dll but what .dll is the question. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Hi,

I want to run code from an activex command button in MS Word 2007 that reads and changes the caption and name of the command button. Is that possible? If so, how do I do it? I have some experience with VBA from MS Access and thought I could use Me.Name or Me.Properties.Name or something similar but that does not appear to be available.

Thanks for any help!

A:Access command button properties in Word 2007

This would be easy in something like C# but I can't find a way to tell VBA to run anything other than the [CurrentName]_Click event when it is clicked. If you only need to change it a few times and to known (before program execution) values then this can be done using the known values.
Code:

Private Sub bye_Click()
bye.Name = "hi"
bye.Caption = "hi"
End Sub
Private Sub hi_Click()
hi.Name = "bye"
hi.Caption = "bye"
End Sub
I'm guessing you need something smarter than this but just incase this is all you need...

Dear Forum,

I am just wondering if someone could assist me in knowing whether a file, folder is shared by displaying it down the bottom of the preview pane like the one attached.

I am having some time in going through each individual file to see if it is shared or not.

Thank you

If you have not restarted since the file was created do that. See if you can remove it. If it still refuses to go away, try booting to safe mode to remove it.

Every single time I view any file's properties context-menu right-click - gt Properties it always immediately launches an installation of an already-installed but disabled application Whaaat the heck is going on I'm running -bit Windows Pro SP The app it keeps trying to install is MacDrive but I think that may be more incidental than anything else I say that because I experienced the exact same thing perhaps - years ago under -bit XP Pro SP except it tried to install something else I can't recall what Although MacDrive is already installed I Huh? Whenever install to properties, file I tries view Win7 something! any almost never use it and so I've disabled all the services and all other startup stuff related to MacDrive using my startup manager So the puzzling fact that Win is so desperate to Huh? Whenever I view any file properties, Win7 tries to install something! install MacDrive again is truly weird and extremely annoying It usually takes three attempts to cancel the unwanted installation after which the file's property window comes up normally I've thoroughly scanned for malware and found none Also I've some reliable registry check and repair tools Iolo's System Mechanic's Registry Tuner and Wise Registry Cleaner Afterwards no registry errors were reported at all What the heck is going on What bizarre connection is there between viewing a file's properties and a forced install of anything

A:Huh? Whenever I view any file properties, Win7 tries to install something!

If you have no use for MacDrive, why not uninstall it altogether instead of disabling its components? If you wanna keep it though, reinstall it to fix whatever part of it is broken. Reinstalling will most likely re-enable disabled components.

We can test if the setup launches because of the disabled functionalities by enabling MacDrive and attempting to reproduce the problem. If it goes away when MacDrive is enabled, then it means disabling it is the reason for the setup application launching every time you right-click. If the problem occurs whether MacDrive is enabled or not, that would indicate a corrupt installation and reinstalling is necessary to fix it.

Stay away from registry cleaners if you do not have advanced knowledge on the Windows Registry's internals. Running that cleaner might as well be the reason for this problem to begin with because some valid entry for MacDrive might have been deleted/altered after being flagged as an invalid/erroneous entry by the registry cleaner thus breaking the MacDrive installation.

If I have created a new folder on my C: file and named it: "Odd Bods" for example.

Using the DEL Command Prompt in XP, what is the exact syntax to forcibly delete it?

I have tried by opening the Command Prompt and typing in "CD \" then enter to bring up the cursor "C:\>". Then I have typed: "Del /F Odd Bods" and "enter". The message then comes up; "Are you sure? y/n". I then type: "y" and enter, but the folder is not deleted.

Help!

A:DEL command line

If folder is on desktop:

Start
Run
Enter 'cmd /k' (no quotes)
Enter 'cd\' (will get you the C:\ prompt)
Enter 'cd\Documents and Settings\{your user name}\Desktop'
Enter 'dir /w'

If you can see the item, Enter 'erase [filename]'

del [filename] also works - for a directory (maybe folders too) RD [directory] works

edit: if you do the Start, run, cmd /k thing then type 'help' you'll get a list of the limited MSDOS commands remaining in the poor excuse for DOS XP supports.

For details on those, type, for example, 'help del' and you'll get the possible options.

Not that I'm aware of, but if you click the start orb, type "cmd" (without quotes) then right-click "cmd.exe" in the search results, you can then select "Run as Administrator" (but you already knew that...)

Here is a part of the switches available to CMD.EXE (You can get more by opening a command line window, then type "CMD /?" (without quotes) and pressing <ENTER>:

Code:
C:\Users\Peter Dzomlija>cmd /?
Starts a new instance of the Windows command interpreter
CMD [/A | /U] [/Q] [/D] [/E:ON | /E:OFF] [/F:ON | /F:OFF] [/V:ON | /V:OFF]
[[/S] [/C | /K] string]
/C Carries out the command specified by string and then terminates
/K Carries out the command specified by string but remains
/S Modifies the treatment of string after /C or /K (see below)
/Q Turns echo off
/D Disable execution of AutoRun commands from registry (see below)
/A Causes the output of internal commands to a pipe or file to be ANSI
/U Causes the output of internal commands to a pipe or file to be
Unicode
/T:fg Sets the foreground/background colors (see COLOR /? for more info)
/E:ON Enable command extensions (see below)
/E:OFF Disable command extensions (see below)
/F:ON Enable file and directory name completion characters (see below)
/F:OFF Disable file and directory name completion characters (see below)
/V:ON Enable delayed environment variable expansion using ! as the
delimiter. For example, /V:ON would allow !var! to expand the
variable var at execution time. The var syntax expands variables
at input time, which is quite a different thing when inside of a FOR
loop.
/V:OFF Disable delayed environment expansion.

There is no such thing as Dos. Dos went the way of the Dodo bird, after 98 died. You have a Command window, that you can do certain things in. But what you are wanting to do, I am lost. It sounds like you are telling a story, not asking a question.

If you want to change a file name, you do it from Explorer in the Desktop. If you want to edit a file, you do it from what ever program was used to create the file.

I uploaded a copy of AVG to my own website so I wouldn't have to hunt for it and so I could use this ftp program to download it. After giving the "get" command with the file name, the file downloads. But when it's done...if I go to run it, a new command prompt window opens for a split second, shows nothing, and disappears. This has happened on two different PCs now.

If I use a web browser to download the files, it works. I'm not sure what to make out of this. Could I be doing something wrong?

Hi,

I would like to know what is the command for delete files and shortcuts on current user desktop.

Is it del C:\documents and settings\*\local settings\desktop\popup blocker stops popups.lnk?

Using winxp pro. I know it is easlier to use windows explorer but I am doing this for interest.

Thank you.

A:Need some help on command line pls.

You are roughly right. When you open the DOS box, it will automatically be logged on the current user's account: C:\Documents and Settings\Account Name\

from there, change to the folder where the file or shortcut is located (for example, type CD Desktop, then press [ENTER]. Then type DEL (name of file or shorcut) and press [ENTER]

For stubborn files which won't delete while Windows is running, open the DOS box then end the EXPLORER.EXE process which quits the Windows shell but leaves the DOS box open for you to issue the DEL command on the stubborn file. When done, bring up the task-manager again (CTRL-ALT-DEL), log-off then log-on to restart the Windows shell.

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I wanted to ask a tricky question.

I want to be able to access another PC via telnet (this I can do easily via RADMIN software) which gives the the CMD prompt access.

I then want to be able to launch a Sound file (or similiar) so that the user on the other end just hears whatever sound I have triggered (i.e. it doesn't have to launch WMP or similiar software).

Any ideas on how to do this?

I know it can be done as a clever guy I used to work with set it up and it was quite comical in the office when he was able to trigger cow noises, etc from anyone's PC by remoting in via the backend.

Cheers

Dave

Hi Alvin,

First, if you aren't prompted for where to download files, see the following article to make sure that happens: Not Prompted to Specify Download Folder for File.

Second, if you are prompted but don't like where it selects and want it to be a different location (like the folder on your desktop), check out the following article: How to change the default download directory for Internet Explorer | Windows Reference.

I hope this helps.

Start>Search>Name of File. Most downloads tell you when they're finished and if you need to manually install.

Foolishly signed up for AOL broadband (out of sheer laziness, I really should have known better!) and have found their online help to be a bit hazy in the area of commandline/batch commands.

What I want to be able to do is exit AOL, confirm my exit, exit AOL communicator (the nearest thing to POP3 that AOL offer) and shut down a few other programs I use all at once by means of a batch file.

Any ideas whether this is doable (the batch side of things I'm happy with, just the AOL command line stuff I'm not sure on).

Thanks guys.

How can I turn something like this:

6c,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,2c,00,30,00,00,00

into a Reg add command?

I need to turn a series of reg edits into a .bat to run, and am a little confused on how to convert between the two formats.

The original I have is from a .reg edit file, and I need to convert the keys to a .bat/ .cmd

Thanks!

Hi Everyone...When I go to my computer and hit start button then the run button and type in 'ipconfig' or 'config' and some times other commands the screen comes up just for a spilt second and then it disappears. Now I have been in my registry trying to tweak my computer using blackviper.com tweak XP. I don't know if this has anything to do with but its the last thing I have done. I not sure when this started either. I run windows XP Pro sp 3 and its running pretty good right now. But something is wrong and I not sure where to start so if this makes any sense to someone I need some advice Please....and thanks tooLeRoyjoeEdit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

A:command line

open a command prompt window first
type cmd and then hit enter, and the command prompt window should open and any commands you now type wont disappear

does win xp by default keep a log of command line commands executed?

i'm looking for a list of commands executed during the current windows session, but not the current command.com session (i.e. I closed the command prompt window, but haven't logged out)

also: does win xp keep a log of ftp transfers done by the built-in ftp command line utility?

Thanks much!

MS

A:Log Of Command Line?

No to both. I'm unaware of an easy way to do this, preferring to save my sessions with the screen capture utility and pasting it into MSPaint.

I want to store >> into a SET variable.

Normally, I would do this:
Code:
SET VARIABLE=>>
However this returns an error.

How can I store >> without using quotation marks?

It needs to be >> in order for my script to work correctly?

Hope you guys can help.

Thanks.

Following a recent re-installation of XP I've found that a huge chunk of my jpegs are inaccessable. (can't view, preview, print, copy, move, rename, etc)

It seems that the affected jpegs have lost their property data.

Can the property data be restored / edited / recreated? or have I lost my photos for good?

Hello, I have a Windows 7 Ultimate.

Recently I have been unable to change or even access some settings on my pc. I can't access user accounts- when I click on it, nothing happens. Same with other stuff like my screen saver and sounds. This is also happening when I click on the properties of a file. I right click on the file, click properties and nothing opens. This happens with all files (folders, pictures, documents...).

I have run several antivirus scans on the computer, opened it in Safe mode, done the sfc/scan too. Nothing has appeared to be wrong apart from the above.

You should only have one anti-virus. More than one can cause them to conflict with each other.

Every single time I view any file's properties context-menu right-click - gt Properties it always immediately launches an installation of an already-installed but disabled application As Betty Jo Bialosky so famously asked Whaaat I'm running -bit Windows Pro SP The app it keeps trying to I view it to file Whenever thing! any install properties, tries Weird: install is MacDrive but I Weird: Whenever I view any file properties, it tries to install thing! think that may be more incidental than anything else I say that because I experienced the exact same thing perhaps - years ago under -bit XP Pro SP except it tried to install something else I can't recall what Although MacDrive is already installed I almost never use it and so I've disabled all the services and all other startup stuff related to MacDrive using my startup manager So the puzzling fact that Win is so desperate to install MacDrive again is truly weird and extremely annoying It usually takes three attempts to cancel the unwanted installation after which the file's property window comes up normally I've thoroughly scanned for malware and found none Also I've some reliable registry check and repair tools Iolo's System Mechanic's Registry Tuner and Wise Registry Cleaner Afterwards no registry errors were reported at all What the heck is going on What bizarre connection is there between viewing a file's properties and a forced install of anything

A:Weird: Whenever I view any file properties, it tries to install thing!

Uninstall Mac Drive 8. See if that fixes the problem. If yes, install the latest version and see what happens if you still want to use it.

This morning I attempted to view the properties of one of my drive in Windows explorer. Properties is a selection on the context menu, but clicking it does absolutely nothing. I have 3 drive in my system and the same behavior is true for all of them.

To add to the mystery, properties works fine for files, directories and Computer. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium with SP1 fully patched.

Anyone have a clue on this one?

Hi,

I am not new to Windows at all, but I am trying hard to get this view back in my Windows 8 File Explorer from Windows 7.
(I need to link to a pic, as I do not know the correct terms for it.)

I think it is possible, just do not know how to get the disk size and space used properties to show.

As of today I can't do the following anymore:

- deleting folders using shift-del or just del
- view properties of folders and files using RMB
- view properties by using the "file" menu in the window-bar
- view properties of the files for which ZoneAlarm gives a warning

I can delete stuff by dragging it into the Recycle Bin and then emptying it.

I think the last thing I did before all this was uninstalling Norton 2005 Trial and installing AVG Anti-Virus.

I tried solving it by Windows' System Recovery, but that didn't work. I tried to see if there was a special recovery-option for vital files on the Windows CD, but if it's there, I can't find it...

Help?

A:Can't use Shift-Del, can't use RMB on folders/files, can't view properties of file...

Try Running the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.

Hi! I have a problem that I've never seen before. When trying to access properties via right click from a specific desktop icon, the shortcut goes straight to the taskbar, but will not open the properties window. I am trying to access the target box. This only occurs on 2 desktop icons. With all other icons on my desktop I am able to access properties. The 2 icons are Phoenix Viewer and Hippo OpenSim viewer. I have recently done a reformat of my computer and this problem has only surfaced from that time. I have ensured that show all hidden files is checked, so am not sure where to go from here to solve this problem. Can you help?

A:[SOLVED] Unable to view Properties in desktop Icon

Try deleting the icons you're having trouble with and then open your START menu, go to ALL PROGRAMS, mouse over the program you're having issues with and right-click it and select SEND TO and then DESKTOP (create shortcut). All we're basically doing is creating a new shortcut to see if your previous shortcut got jacked up somehow.

Good day!

Mike
