Preferred Solution: Svchost.exe network service taking all my memory!!!!!!!!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What makes you think that svchost is using a lot of memory?

Hello,

Seemingly out of no where (this computer is a couple years old) my internet on my PC would just stop working (started about two weeks ago). Malware searches and virus scans turn up nothing. Noticed that SVCHOST.exe was taking up about 30-40% of my CPU under network service username (if that helps). I did some googling and found some info regarding superfetch and turning it off, so I did and that did nothing to help the problem (that I can tell).

I also ran RogueKiller X64 since the issue and cleaned three registry issues...

Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks!!

A:SVCHOST Network Service taking up 30-40% of CPU

Not sure if this will help at all, but the services that seem to be associated with the spike in cpu usage are CryptSvc, Dnscache, Lanmarworkstation, and NlaSvc.

Ending the process doesn't seem to cause any issues, except making my internet work like normal until the processes restart.

I have an issue on this laptop that when I open up the lid one of the services that runs under svchost.exe starts eating up CPU cycles/RAM for a long time before computer comes to normal. If I bring up Task Manager and locate the offending svchost.exe process, then right-click it and select "go to services":

It brings up a whole bunch of them (about 10 or more.)

So I was curious to know if there's an option to tell CPU and RAM usage per service (and not just svchost.exe) so I can kill (stop) the offending one?

A:How to tell which service in svchost.exe is taking up CPU clocks, RAM?

It is most likely the Windows Update service. You can confirm this by stopping that service when the high RAM/CPU usage occurs.

Recently this has been happening: http://i.imgur.com/1Mc7v1B.png
So I ran a search and found this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/494636/service-host-local-system-cpumemory-hog/
Is this still the best way to go about fixing it? If so, would anyone mind looking at the results for me?
I'm on Windows 8.
I have an intel i72700k and 16 gigs of RAM.
Bonus problem: My CPU is going up to the high 50% range usage and I'm not running anything big or much of anything period, going into task manager reveals that a large majority of the CPU is being used by nothing.

Hello.

I have multiple svchost processes running, but one's taking up a huge amount of memory. The problem is that this one process has multiple services running and I don't know which one(s) I have to do something to in order to fix the problem. It's currently running:

Windows Audio
Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Cryptographic Services
DHCP Client
Error Reporting Services
COM+ Event System
Fast User Switching Compatibility
Help and Support
Server
Workstation
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness (NLA)
Remote Access Connection Manager
Task Scheduler
Secondary Logon
System Event Notification
Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing
Shell Hardware Detection
System Restore Service
Telephony
Themes
Distributed Link Tracking Client
Windows Time
Windows Management Instrumentation

At first, I thought the problem was being caused by Automatic Updates so I disabled that and it seemed to run fine for a while. However, with these services, it's running between 94-99 CPU and over 600MB memory usage. Please help.

Thanks

Task Manager>Processes>View>Select Column>Check PID.
OK, you've created what I think you're looking for. Now open the Command Prompt>tasklist /svc

After messing around for a couple days online googling how to end this massive memory usage problem i've come here for help. I took a screenshot of the services listed under the specific svchost that is taking up all the memory.

I am running windows vista and also am not able to update for another reason i assume, related to this issue.

My question is, which service(s) specifically are the ones that need to be stopped?

Thanks in advance.

A:SVCHOST.exe taking up too much memory

svchost.exe file can sometimes be damaged causing errors, high CPU and slow performance.

verify that that file is good

one other thing you can try is creating a new user account

make an administrive account, log on to it, see of you still have the problem

Hi as of recent the problem up lot taking of svchost.exe memory. a I am experiencing is that the process called svchost exe is using up a lot of memory This problem started yesterday and the last thing I remember doing is surfing the web with google chrome and then chrome's pop-up blocker blocked a pop-up window I had chrome's adblock extension enabled as well I'm not sure if that pop-up window in chrome had anything to do with triggering the svchost procress though I know for a fact that I had a similar problem before with svchost but then it went away after about days Assistance would be appreciated in helping me solve this problem Thank you Note I notice that when I restart the computer the svchost process decreases memory usage gradually then increases it I believe the second instance of svchost there are multiple ones is the one that's causing the svchost.exe taking up a lot of memory. problem It's the one that starts up at around K This instance of svchost always increases to a maximum of around K Here's my dds log DDS Ver - - - NTFS AMD Internet Explorer BrowserJavaVersion Run by Yovanny at on - - Microsoft Windows Home Premium GMT - AV ESET NOD Antivirus Disabled Updated FAE- -A - DB- B E DFA SP Windows svchost.exe taking up a lot of memory. ive researched this thing that i see taking up all my memory in task manager, but i cant find anything that solves the problem. i also have a program called system mechanic and did a few scans with it to try and get rid of a few uneccesary svchost's but it never worked. anyone know how to free up any memory by taking away a few of these processes?

Hello. While I was uninstalling a printer from my computer, I had to restart my computer to completely remove it. Since then, my computer has been slow. Everything loads longer than usual. I already tried a number of scans for infections. My browser is especially affected, as I didn't close it before restarting, and a video was playing while it restarted. I already tried re-installing it too.

The only thing I find that is abnormal is that svchost.exe is taking up more memory than usual in the task manager.

Hi all,
svchost is causing problems once again. Through some similar threads I believe I have narrowed it down to the possible culprit I just dont know what to do to fix it. My cpu is being taken up and my ram. Sometimes it will take up so much ram it just blows up and then starts over again a few min later.

I ran process explorer and can see that a few threads keep on creating themselves over and over. kernell32.dll, ntdll.dll, and the flash10e.ocx. I ran maleware after having the pjw.exe virus and killed 16 files. The side effects of the virus went away but I still have this problem.

A:Why Is Svchost Taking Up So Much Memory Usage?

This little tutorial might help you identify what is utilizing all those resources: How to determine what services are running under a SVCHOST.EXE process

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/162267/why-is-svchost-taking-up-so-much-memory-usage/
Relevancy 75.25%

On my recently reinstalled Windows 7 machine, I find myself often running out of memory--a problem I've never met before--despite having added an additional gigabyte of RAM to the machine so that the laptop now has 4 GB of RAM. Windows occasionally closes my web browser, saying that there's not enough RAM. The most memory-hogging Svchost process can take up around 100,000 K of memory.

Is my computer infected?

A:Svchost taking up lots of memory

Use these programs to find and remove both adware and malware.

Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the
Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.
After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here
Double-click mbam-setup-2.X.X.XXXX.exe to install the application (X's are the current version number).
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
Once MBAM opens, when it says Your databases are out of date, click the Fix Now button.
Click the Settings tab at the top, and then in the left column, select Detections and Protections, and if not already checked place a checkmark in the selection box for Scan for rootkits.
Click the Scan tab at the top of the program window, select Threat Scan and click the Scan Now button.
If you receive a message that updates are available, click the Update Now button (the update will be downloaded, installed, and the scan will start).
When MBAM is finished scanning it will display a screen that displays any malware that it has detected.
Click the Remove Selected button.
MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so.
While still on the Scan tab, click the link for View detailed log, and in the window that opens click the Export button, select Text file (*.txt), and save the log to your Desktop.
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can also be viewed by clicking the History tab and then selecting Application Logs.
POST THE LOG FOR  REVIEW.

Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Scan button.
When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message

Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
Click the button.
For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
Double click on the icon on your desktop.
Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
Click the Start button.
Accept any security warnings from your browser.
Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
When the scan completes, click List Threats
Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
Click the Back button.
Click the Finish button.
NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

Hi I'm having problems with one of my svchost's taking 240,000K of memory. This is an awful lot and certainly isn't what it should be! If anyone knows a possible cause for this and/or how I could fix it that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

A:svchost.exe taking 240MB of memory.

More than likely to be a viral infection.

Any other issues happening ?

First do an online virus scan here, http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

Click the "Scan your PC" button at the above link, and download the necessary files it asks you to. The scan will take some time to complete.

Then download Adaware Se Personal from here http://www.download.com/3000-2094-10045910.html?legacy=cnet

Update it and run a scan, fix everything it finds.

Then download and run Spybot search & destroy from here, http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html

Update it also, and run a scan, fix everything it finds.

After the above steps are completed, download "Hijack This" from here, http://thespykiller.co.uk/files/hijackthis_sfx.exe

Run a scan and save a logfile, Copy and paste the log back into a post here.

DO NOT fix anything with Hijack this until advised to so.

Everytime I start the computer, after the usual startup stuff and about 10 more minutes, an svchost.exe service starts up and very slowly increases and increases and increases how much memory it is using until it is using like 500,000 K and the computer is super super slow and unusable. Then eventually it drops back down to a smaller number and becomes usable again. Then in a little while it starts going up again. And eventually, whether that service is a low number or high number, I can't seem to open any programs up. I double click, they act like they are going to load, but then nothing.I also have an ark.txt but it is too large to upload. Here is a linkThanks for any help.

One of the svchost.exe processes seems to suck up a ton of memory for some reason (up to around 700mb). The process goes away by itself if I leave it alone, but it has caused a few out-of-memory game crashes in the past and generally slows down all programs while running. I can end the process, but the problem usually comes back randomly during another session.

I noticed the svchost.exe group name was netsvcs, which I believe were in charge of these services: AeLookupSvc, BITS, EapHost, IKEEXT, iphlpsvc, LanmanServer, MMCSS, ProfSvc, Schedule, SENS, ShellHWDetection, Themes, Winmgmt, and wuauserv. Malwarebytes and Avast turn up nothing, so I'm not sure what it could be.
I have attached the logs from Farbar Recovery Scan Tool for review.

Hello,

I recently have a problem that the computer gets really slow after I wake it up from hybernation. I checked the Resource Monitor, and it seems that the problem is with the process

svchost.exe (netsvcs)
a few minutes after I wake the computer from hybernation it's memory usage starts rising until it consumes all available memory - up to 96% and more, as you can see in the screenshot. If I restart the computer the problem is gone until the next hybernation.

 svchost.png   147.01KB
  0 downloads
I scan the computer regularly with MalewareBytes, and I also ran ESET's online scanner, but the problem persists, so I don't believe it's a virus issue.

Would very much appreciate help on this.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on Dell Inspiron N4030, 3GB RAM, Intel Core i3 2.27GHz.

Thanks

Update:
I tried now to stop services that I've seen elswhere that are supposed to be harmless to stop, and after I stopped the process wuauserv the memory usage came back to normal. The only other service I ended was BITS, which did not affect the problem.
But - and I dont know if there's a connection - a few minutes later the computer crashed. This is what it said after reboot:

The problem is svchost.exe (localservice). I have posted an image which contains all services under that process.

Please help me SevenForums, you're my only hope.

A:Svchost.exe constantly taking up about 50% CPU and lots of memory.

Is this happening every boot? Open a resource monitor and switch to CPU tab, sort by CPU. See if you can get additional info, take a screenshot if you can and post here.

Hi Folks,

When I start my computer, whether it is plugged into the internet or not, an instance of the svchost.exe service starts sucking up all of my CPU within about 2 minutes of booting up.

I discovered this by pulling up my task manager after quickly logging on. Note that if I boot up, wait the 2 minutes before trying to log on, my system hangs. It seems to hang within 2 minutes of booting up windows, regardless of whether I am logged on or not. If I do log in and watch the Performance tab on the task manager, the CPU usage starts gradually climbing until it is completely maxed out. I then checked the Processes tab, and see that it is one of the svchost.exe processes that is the culprit.

Any advice on how to troubleshoot / fix this?

Thanks kindly!

A:Service.exe taking up a gig virtual memory!

Usually you don't post a hijack log unless requested to do so.

Sorry but clearing your event viewer logs is a bogus suggestion for addressing services.exe memory usage imho.

What would have been nice would be you posting a picture of task manager with the services.exe using 1gig of memory and what your other performance stats would look like.

This means you need to expand your task manager so you can see
vm size
peak mem usage
mem delta
page faults

Then a view of running applications would be nice also.

I'm currently seeking help regarding the w/ svchost.exe, Updates, high For usage taking Checking forever memory checking of updates on my computer Checking for updates is already taking hours It's been over a year since I have updated my computer I decided to update it today as to make good use of the free time from work and to get the Windows Upgrade notification before its too late Windows Updates states Most recent check for updates March at AM Checking For Updates, taking forever w/ svchost.exe, high memory usage Updates were installed at March at AM BUT when I checked my update history the last installed update was the Windows Update Agent installed Checking For Updates, taking forever w/ svchost.exe, high memory usage at July The date I posted this thread It seems like it installed when I shut down my pc and restarted it Also the svchost exe process connected to the Windows Update is taking a huge approx k from my memory and memory usage is at Only have gig ram with only gig available And upon checking for updates there also appeared a TrustedInstaller exe process And PLEASE DO NOT REPLY A COMMENT JUST ASKING WHY I TURNED OFF WINDOWS UPDATES we all have our reasons Any solutions

A:Checking For Updates, taking forever w/ svchost.exe, high memory usage

TrustedInstaller always runs when checking for updates - it's the main engine for installing them, and is used to check the integrity of partially-downloaded updates.
(Yes, there are many valid reasons for turning off updates! )
Installing the Update Agent resets the WU system to a large extent, and Windows Update has to start again from scratch - the first scan always takes a long time as it rebuilds the database. In a system with limited RAM, this can indeed require a very long time! 2GB is bare minimum for an x64 install - you'd really be much better off using a 32-bit OS in that amount of RAM.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Hello! Service Host: Local System CPU is taking up a lot of memory on my Windows 8 HP Envy 17. It's at a whopping 196.8 MB. When I'm watching a Youtube video or reading manga, the fan did not spin fast or get hot. It only did when I watched anime on Gogoanime. Now, the fan heats up as the memory and CPU go up over the smallest things like taking pictures on the webcam or downloading updates like Cyberlink for the Youcam via HP Support Assistant. I haven't run System Restore since I recently reset my laptop to factory conditions. I have like 5 Google Chrome 32 bit opened and one of them is like around 102.5 MB.

I would appreciate any help.

If you are wondering why it shows the AV off, its cause I had run combofix earlier and had not turned it back on when I ran the forum mandated loggers.

A:Very High Memory Usage By svchost.exe->Wlansvc Service

Heres a great example of what happens when my internet drops out, I'm not sure what else to call it. These are two ping tests I did to the same server less about one minute apart. The first was done while my internet was fine, the second being tested during a spike.

Ignore that it says 7 am, It has the wrong time zone listed. That just show's that the tests were one minute apart.

Hello,

When I boot my WinXP SP2 computer, I typically get as far as the desktop without any icons and the systray item, like anti-virus and firewall taking a long while to boot. Eventually (a few minutes) everything is showing normally, however, an internet connection is impossible and programs take an eternity to launch.

All these problems are apparently resolved when I open Task Manager and delete "Svchost.exe NETWORK SERVICE", which typically consumes 99% of CPU resources. I simply end the process and the computer is ables to connect to the internet and everything else starts working normally.

Could you please help me rectify this problem?

I have scanned with various online scanners, anti-virus programs, spybot, ad-aware, windows live onecare safety scanner, ccleaner and others. My firewall is Kerio and current anti-virus is Antivir.

Thanks,
Niki

Another post mentions a similar problem. I'd suggest killing that svchost.exe process - then visiting this link for a free, online scan of your system: http://safety.live.com Choose the "Full Service Scan".

The Windows XP Task manager shows that there is a svchost Network Service running, however I do not know to what that applies to.

At times it actually stops me from surfing the net and when I end task it I have no probs surfing.

Can anyone elighten me as to which program I may be running OR how to stop it in the services area.

I cannot seem to find it under the services management.

Thanks in advance to whomever takes the time to assist me.

I got a weird one going here and hopefully somebody here will have the 'fix' SERVICE svchost.exe NETWORK for it started last night when I got home and booted up and svchost.exe for NETWORK SERVICE couldn't get online tried this tried that nada rebooted a few times and had some serious issues on a couple of the boot attempts finally after using control panel gt Network Connections gt repair I got online things were mighty slow I eventually ended up in the task manager and notice svchost.exe for NETWORK SERVICE my CPU was constantly and my cpu temps were above C when 'ideling' tsk tsk not good at all I figured at this point something was alive and eating away at the CPU so I started my search I booted into safe mode and noticed that cpu usage was normal so figured it was a running process problem after killing off about of the running processes I finally noticed I had have instances of svchost exe NETWORK SERVICE running on of which had an unbelievably high usage I killed it off and viola cpu back to normal great so I 'figured' it out kinda only kinda because I can't svchost.exe for NETWORK SERVICE figure out where what is causing the duplication of svchost exe only got one NIC card listed in the device manager etc so I'm stumped anybody got a clue as to how to hunt down and get rid of the second instance normal results with HijackThis and all scanners so I'm clueless and would really like to avoid what I'm beginning to suspect is the solution which is a reformat and clean install

Just a question I wish to ask: is it normal to see the Svchost.exe under the Network Service use 100% CPU Usage when I successfully connect to Internet? Although it goes down to 0% again when it goes to a certain amount of memory in a couple of seconds, I couldn't help but wonder if someone else's computer has the same problem with me. I'm using P4 1.8GHz, and memory over 1GB (1GB and 256MB, to be exact), using the modem ZTE ZXDSL831, given from my ISP Streamyx.

Dear Experts,

I run a XP SP2 and having problems with svchost.exe NETWORK SERVICE. As soon as I boot the PC, svchost.exe NETWORK SERVICE starts consuming 98% of the CPU resources and slows my pc unbearably.

Usually I kill the process and continue working but need a more permanent solution.

Thanks in advance.

Some spyware may be infected on your PC and pretending to be svchost.exe, try running spybot search and distroy, and adaware. You may just get a result.
There are just so many spyware problems!

On start up my system is very slow. Looking at Task Manager I found that
'svchost' was using up 50% of CPU, very nasty. Coming back after being away for about 20mins scvhost was down to 0% CPU????????????
What goes?

Svchost.exe is taking up 98% of CPU for anything up to 90 minutes after I start up XP which means my PC is unusable for that time. This started after I installed SP3. I have downloaded Process Explorer and that shows that the culprit is wuaueng.dll What can I do?

Well, i don't know what is the problem. When i go to the ressource monitor (in the memory) section, i see a svchost.exe(local system network restricted) taking up to 222k of ko by itself. I don't know if it's due to this but yesterday i've found many trojans horses on my computer (they're all gone now, cheked with 3 anti-viruses). Can it be a problem or is there a way to solve it because i don't know which process to stop (so many svchost). My used RAM is always growing. Was at 39% (idle system) this morning and now im up to 51% when idle)

Please help me

I've been having an odd problem as of late and am not entirely sure on what to do about it you see I've been having too taking up svchost.exe much CPU? some slow down issues with my p c and the process that I've discovered to cause the slow down svchost.exe taking up too much CPU? is svchost exe I know that svchost exe is an important process for the computer but the odd thing is that one of the svchost exe processes seems to run at very high rates and usually doesn't come down Its strange but it seems the more I do certain things on my p c the more this processes cpu usage goes up and stays there It wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that it doesn't reset until I restart my computer Usually svchost.exe taking up too much CPU? it starts at about k on my task manager but will usually go up to - k and stay there until my computer is restarted Unfortunately during a virus scan with my avast antivirus scanner the svchost exe process goes up to k cpu usage where it then causes slow down I've done research but nothing seems to yield helpful results The process when traced to its roots is located in the system folder I can't seem to find the root of the problem and I am unsure whether or not this could be because of or even if it may be causing my recent BSODs BSOD link here A few BSOD's in the last month I've attached an image of the task manager with the svchost exe process highlighted and running at k This is the only things I know how to do that may help as of right now If there are any ways of assisting you further please tell me and I will do my up most best to provide you with assistance

A:svchost.exe taking up too much CPU?

The numbers quoted and showing in Task Manager are memory usage, not CPU usage which is 0 throughout the list. There is no relationship whatsoever between CPU and memory usage. While these numbers do seem high it is unlikely that this alone would cause your problem.

More information is needed. A screenshot of Task Manager - Performance tab would be very useful. Do this when the problem occurs.

Suddenly this system, which was operating ok, has started to become very hot. I traced this heating to high CPU usage and further to an over-active svchost.exe (screen shot below).

I'm not very technical but from reading online I gather this may be associated with Microsoft Updates (Updates appears to be up to date). There was a hotfix offered by Microsoft but it concerned Windows Framework 3.0 (can't recall update number) but I checked thoroughly and couldn't find any such listing or update item.

So I'm rather stuck.
svchost is of course a legitimate and required Microsoft component but I find this overheating and taking up of all the CPU disconcerting and also it slows every other activity.

Any suggestions in as plain English as you can manage ... would be very helpful.

Manually install this update:

If that does not fix the CPU usage, the try these steps:

A:svchost.exe is taking up 50% of my CPU

You can download a utility named "Process Explorer" from Microsoft: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx

It displays a tree view of the processes and services running on your PC. Under each "svchost.exe" you will see a few services running and the CPU time for each. That should help you determine which one is causing the problem.

I can't seem to find the problem... I downloaded all windows update, checked for virus, etc. And yet, the process still consumes tons of CPU.

A:svchost.exe taking up too much CPU

You will notice that you have several svchost.exes running--these are just umbrellas for the services that run within each. You should get free SvchostViewer and compare the PID of the high CPU% svchost.exe to what it shows you, and you will still see numerous services within--so it may take some guesswork and trial to determine which is gobbling your CPU but at least you have a chance of finding it! Good luck!

Having a major problem with svchost.exe. Everytime I restart the computer an instance of svchost.exe uses a new PID and takes up 95-100% of cpu. I have to find the instance and then "end the process" to use the computer. I have scanned with PCtools antivirus, PCtools spyware, AVG antivirus, Pctools maestro, registry booster 2. All spyware and malware have been removed according to those programs. Registry has been cleaned, defragged and compressed. Still have the same problem.
The different PID's being used have been 828, 1500, 1884,1108,636,1648.
How can I find the problem and correct this situation??
Thanks in advance for your help and guidence!!

A:svchost.exe taking 100% of cpu

Follow the exact steps that are provided below: Do not miss out any:

Perform these steps leaving the svchost crash dialog open.

1. Click Start->Run, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the open box and click OK.
2. Double click the service "Automatic Updates".
3. Click on the Log On tab, please ensure the option "Local system account" is selected and the option "Allow service to interact with desktop" is unchecked.

4. Check if this service has been enabled on the listed Hardware Profile. If not, please click the Enable button to enable it.
5. Click on the tab "General "; make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic". Then please click the button "Start" under "Service Status" to start the service.
6. Repeat the above steps with the other service: Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
================================ NEXT ================================
Re-register Windows Update components and Clear the corrupted Windows Update temp folder
1. Click on Start and then click Run,
2. In the open field type "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
3. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" message, click OK.
4. Please repeat these steps for each of the following commands:

REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL

After the above steps are finished reboot.

Since temporary folder of Windows Update may be corrupted. We can refer to the following steps to rename this folder

1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window.

net stop WuAuServ

2. Click Start, Run, type: %windir% and press Enter.
3. In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to SDold.
4. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window.

net start WuAuServ

If having a problem with renaming the file named SofwareDistribution -
'Error Renaming File or Folder , Cannot rename SofwareDistribution: Acces is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that it is not curently in use'

When you're modifying the properties of the Automatic Updates (aka wuauserv) service, change the startup type from 'Automatic' to 'Manual.' Then reboot. The effect is that the service doesn't start at all on bootup, so there's no need for the net stop command. After all is said and done, recommend changing the startup type for that service back to 'Automatic.'.

Hi!

have a look at www.happysysadm.com/2010/11/svchostexe.html for troubleshooting

In any case if you had error with memtest86 and you constantly get a bsod, you probably have to change your faulting RAM module... no workaround for this, sorry.

I am running windows xp sp3. I have all the new windows updates. My problem is that my srvhost.exe memory usage can get over 800000k and the CPU usage often goes up to 100%. This svchost.exe is running netsvcs. I disabled automatic windows updates and also disabled almost everything at startup. Startup only starts phztsbo4 which is associated to my hp printer, googlequicksearch which seems to be fine and Belkins 802 which in my network connection. I ran antimalware and loaded Norton. Both ran with no errors. I've spent a couple days trying to figure out what is wrong and still can't fix it. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I reformatted my recently (2 weeks ago) and today, updated my PC through Windows Update (almost 200) and after, my pc is laggy.
I went to Resource Monitor and found the process "svchost.exe (netsvcs)" is taking about 512 mb RAM (My total physical RAM is 1GB.
What do I do? Thanks in advance

EDIT: I don't know what happened, but now it's back to it's normal state (500 MB RAM in use). And even if it was in 90% RAM, it was just like nothing happened, little performance difference (w/ Chrome open). I will post if it really is a problem to me.

A:"svchost.exe (netsvcs)" taking up RAM up to 95%

Chrome itself will sometimes use more than 1GB of RAM...IMO, you have insufficient resources (RAM) to effectively do very much with a Win 7 install.

Typical processes like browser and system security software...by themselves...will frequently use more system resources/RAM than you  state is your situation.

Hello, recently I noticed my computer was running really slow so I checked windows task manager and saw this.

I attempted to stop the tasks but shortly after doing that my computer froze and forced me to shutdown, as I logged back in it came up with the same results.

Any idea on fixing this?

Hi all I ve been having this problem with svchost basically since I ve had this laptop I bought this computer the week SP was put out and I upgraded to XP Pro SP as soon as I got it Then I was running a spyware scan and Up 50% Svchost.exe Taking Usage Hangs Cpu virus Svchost.exe Hangs Taking Up 50% Cpu Usage scan and it detected something Svchost.exe Hangs Taking Up 50% Cpu Usage it called adware virus No other details What it did to my system was create a minute hang during the startup process and other problems I just found later I ve fixed all but one of the problems and that is the svchost hang Svchost exe has instances running on my system at once which isn t much of a problem What is a problem is the largest one K currently but I ve seen it to K or as low as K will freeze when the system comes back out of hybernation It doesn t always do it but it does it more often if I put the computer into hybernation after listening to music It will then take of the CPU power which drives the fans on my computer crazy and slows the system a little The only way I ve seen to get rid of it is to close the bad svchost in the task manager and restart the system If you just restart the system will not restart with svchost doing this Also when this particular svchost is closed in the task manager the sound will not work I ve tried uninstalling my wireless card drivers regular network card drivers and sound drivers and then reinstalling them but it hasn t fixed this particular problem The problem svchost is listed under the username quot SYSTEM quot in the task manager The others are in quot SYSTEM quot quot NETWORK SERVICE quot and quot LOCAL SERVICE quot Do you think posting a hijackthis log in the hijackthis forum would help Thanks

A:Svchost.exe Hangs Taking Up 50% Cpu Usage

Well, the best thing that you could do is to restore your computer back as far as you can, I don't see how a new computer can have the problem instantly before doing anything. I've seen the programming side of a trojan and when I went to see what it would save as after the initial program was run (When the trojan was activated it would delete it's install file and implant itself into svchost.exe because if you delete that.. your computer is pretty much messed up) I remember that because my computer used to be messed up after I ran that program (I was stupid when I was in 6th grade...) and it messed up my laptop for ages, dont remember how it got fixed. If that doesn't work, take tg1911's adviceHave you tried starting in Safe Mode? How to start Windows in Safe ModeReboot into Safe Mode with networking, which will allow access to the internet.Update your security programs, and run them. That's my advice atleast - wait for someone better to come along though haha. Hope I helped.

Everytime I start my laptop up svchost exe netsvc immediately takes up threads and within netsvc threads 560+ up taking svchost.exe -k minutes renders my laptop unusable when left unchecked and I have to shut it down manually with svchost.exe -k netsvc taking up 560+ threads the power button Furthermore when I try to end the process it starts itself up again taking up the same number of threads The only way to get my laptop to work is to open up the resource monitor the moment I get into the desktop where I can sort processes by of threads and end the process everytime it uses the insane amount of threads until it finally restarts using around While I am not exactly sure what threads do I know that it's the source svchost.exe -k netsvc taking up 560+ threads of the problem because svchost exe netsvc doesn't increase cpu usage as far as I can tell and my laptop runs fine when svchost exe netsvc uses less threads While my solution to the problem works I would like to find a permanent solution Also I used the Command Prompt to find out what services it was running using a command I found online AeLookupSvc Appinfo BITS Browser EapHost IKEEXT iphlpsvc LanmanServer MMCSS ProfSvc Schedule SENS ShellHWDetection Themes Winmgmt wuauserv I saw on another forum can't seem to find it in my history that someone with a problem that sounded the same stopped the iphlpsvc and it fixed the slowdown but they didn't explain how they did it On another forum svchost exe -k netsvcs Slowing Down Computer Solved - Windows Help Forums someone mentioned to try separating the services into different svchost exe's using the Command Prompt and they gave an example but when I did the same thing it said that I didn't have authorization to do it which is odd It's also apparently now malware Norton doesn't pick it up and the exe that's running it is in the System folder with all of the other svchost exe's like it should be I don't want to be trying anything that I may later regret so I'm hoping to get some help here

Does the same thing happen in Safe Mode and/or Safe Mode with Networking?

Access the Windows Advanced Boot Options:Press F8 every second or every half second when your system first turns on or restarts. Some BIOS systems may not recognize the F8 being pressed unless it is pressed very rapidly. Others require the F8 key to be pressed with a longer interval in between. You may have to try different methods of pressing F8 after the Power On Self Test (POST) screen in order to reach the Advanced Boot Options screen. For reference: the POST screen generally has the name of your motherboard (ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, etc.) or the name of your system's manufacturer (HP, DELL, Toshiba, etc.) as an image/logo or in text as it proceeds through the test, and it appears just prior to seeing the Windows logo for the Windows loading process.

After rebooting, a single system svchost.exe takes anywhere from 40-99 percent of my CPU consistently for as long as 15 minutes, making doing basic tasks frustrating. Several svchost.exe's are running, but only one is taking a ridiculous amount of CPU. I'm running XP, so I don't have the services tab in Task Manager. What do I do to terminate and disable this punk without crashing my computer?

Hi all I am having an issue with my windows installation Few days earlier I just amount up unusual taking ram SVChost.exe of formatted my C drive only SVChost.exe taking up unusual amount of ram and re installed my -bit Windows Ultimate then I also turned on windows update service and updated my windows installation to service pack Also several other updates including net framework amp windows defender definition also got downloaded amp installed For past SVChost.exe taking up unusual amount of ram or days I am having an issue Every time my windows boots I notice the one of the instances of svchost exe is using an unusual amount of ram around gb almost Also the cpu usage is constantly close to if I terminate the process from the task manager manually after a while it is resuming on its own again and exhibiting the same kind of behaviour If I terminate it again then it's SVChost.exe taking up unusual amount of ram shutting down finally and then the ram usage and cpu usage are coming down to a normal level I don't know what might be causing this problem I've attached the image from task manager highlighting the specific process for your convenience

So, uh yeah why? its split 58% utorrent 41 svchost.

Why does it have as many connections and usage? What is it doing?

A:svchost taking up as much bandwidth as uTorrent, why?

It's probably utorrent itself using svchost, or one of your browsers, or anything you're online with. Seems everybody goes through svchost.

Hi,

Recently, SVCHost.exe is taking up a lot of memory. Did all the necessary scans and removals but it's still the same. (I'm using Avira Anti-virus)

Attached are the Proccesses, Performance and Services tab from Task Manager. And useful text logs from scans. Do let me know if I need to provide anything else.

Thanks in advanced.

A:Svchost.exe Taking 50 % Power Of Cpu + Weird Stuff

HelloApologize for the delay in response we get overwhelmed at times but we are trying our best to keep up.If you have since resolved the original problem you were having would appreciate you letting us know If not please perform the following below so I can have a look at the current condition of your machine. Thanks and again sorry for the delay. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save to your Desktop.alternate download siteDSS will do the following:Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, Internet Cache Files, and empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for an analyst to review.Automatically run HijackThis. It will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed. So if HijackThis is not installed and DSS prompts you to download it, please answer yes.You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges when using.Close all applications and windows.Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts. If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not
malicious. When the scan is complete, two text files will open in Notepad:main.txt <- this one will be maximizedextra.txt <- this one will be minimizedIf not, they both can be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder. Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.-- When running DSS, some firewalls may warn that it is trying to access the Internet especially if your asked to download the most current version of HijackThis. Please ensure that you allow it permission to do so.-- If you get a warning from your anti-virus while DSS is scanning, please allow DSS to continue as the scan is not harmful.NextPlease do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScannerClick on Accept ButtonYou will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan SettingsIn the scan settings make that the following are selected:Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
Scan Options:Scan Archives
Scan Mail BasesClick OKNow under select a target to scan:Select My ComputerThis will program will start and scan your system. The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected. Now click on the Save as Text button:Save the file to your desktop.Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Hi,

I've been trying to remove some malware (according to Malwarebytes, a miner) masking itself as svchost.exe.
It's taking up a good 50% of my CPU usage, so I would really like to remove it.
After removal with Malwarebytes and restart, it keeps popping back up.
Location that I can see is in "C:\Windows\Temp".

I've attached "FRST.txt" and "Addition.txt".

Thanks in advance.

I saw this topic on the forum - svchost exe netsvcs maxing all and taking feeds svchost.exe CPU audio streaming available CPU out by streaming in audio feeds and although this seems to be an exact mimic of svchost.exe streaming audio feeds and taking all available CPU my problem I didn't think it was proper decorum to piggy-back onto his question svchost exe netsvcs maxing CPU out by streaming in audio feeds When we turn on this bit W desktop it almost immediately starts playing what sounds like overlapping radio stations Looking at taskmgr show that svchost's memory consumption climbs to where it's using over KB of memory and the performance grinds to a halt Ending the task stops the audio I ran a quick scan of Malwarebytes in safe mode it detected a backdoor trojan which I removed and rebooted The radio was still audible and svchost was still maxed out I killed the process and downloaded Rkill and TDSSkiller I ran Rkill in safe mode it detected a zero access virus I stayed in safe mode and ran TDSSkiller It detected the zero access virus and I clicked on Quarantine It apparently quarantined nothing because a normal reboot brought up the same symptoms I didn't want to go through the complete scenario of solutions offered to the original poster so I never attempted the elevated net stop WMPNetworkSvc Should I be doing that or something else

Hi,
First, let me explain that Virtual memory is used when your RAM is filled up or when you put a laptop into hibernate mode (hibernate mode essentially dumps your RAM onto the hard drive so it can pick up where it left off even after power is shut off).
Since the general shut down of Windows 8 or 8.1 likes a combined hibernate  so that windows can start up quickly, I consider that this issue is caused by such shut down and fast boot.
I suggest we disable fast boot to check the issue:
To Turn "Fast Startup" On or Off in System Settings on this article:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/6320-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-8-a.html
Also, we can try to reset virtual memory to see what?s going on.
Configure Virtual Memory in Windows 8
http://www.trainingtech.net/configure-virtual-memory-in-windows-8/
If the issue persists, please test it in Clean boot mode:
How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If the issue doesn?t appear, you can determine which one can be the cause by using dichotomy in MSconfig. Checking on half of Non-Microsoft service and restart, determining which half of the services cause the issue and repeating to check half of the problematic
half services.
If the issue persists in Clean boot mode, let?s run Process explorer to view which program calling service host causing this issue, and we can remove it to see what?s going on:

Process Explorer v15.40
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Detail steps you can refer this blog:
How to troubleshoot high cpu in the System process
http://blogs.technet.com/b/yongrhee/archive/2009/08/07/how-to-troubleshoot-high-cpu-in-the-system-process.aspx
It could help you to determine which process detailed under svhost.exe cause the issue.

Hello everyone!

I've been having this problem for approximately a month.
This particular file, named svchost.exe (size: 942KB), located in C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Temp is giving me some bad times.

Everytime I log in my Windows account, this file starts executing itself, and is shown on Task Manager as the image proves it.

The most straightforward solution would be to delete this file permanently.
When I do that, it reappears after rebooting or logging out and then logging in.

I've tried deleting the whole content of the specified folder above, and yet it still shows up again, aswell as all the other "temporary" files.

I asked around, before posting this problem here, and one of the possible reasons could be a malfunctioning windows update.

The goal is to get rid of this nasty file permanently.
Can I count on your help?

Thank you for your time,
-Razraal

A:Resurging svchost.exe*32 TempFile taking needed CPU runtime

The svchost.exe process is vital for w7 to operate. If you succeed in deleting it the system will be bricked.
The svchost.exe is an internal kind of OS that w7 uses to run its own processes. I have from 11-17 or more instances of it running. This particular one may be caused by a program you installed a month ago.

Partially Solved After installing Norton software I had the first two symptoms svchost exe and explorer exe taking mass amounts of memory seem to have disappeared - I'm not sure as i've only had one restart and been on for two hours but I haven't had either of the huge memory uses so far For people having those problems it seems resources large taking explorer.exe svchost.exe, of amounts up the two culprits were security risk Trojan Viknok B inf and Trojan Vikadclick That said I am still having a few problems - svchost.exe, explorer.exe taking up large amounts of resources Anything opening Windows Explorer the program that lets you view files folders etc takes - seconds to load if I load Computer or My Computer it can take - seconds Before this it would usually only take a couple of seconds to load - I still get Webpage Error popups constantly asking if I want to debug - this happens very frequently even if I check the box labeled do not show this message again - When I shut down or restart the computer the screen flashes black a couple of times and in that interval a blank window surrounding the entire screen pops up for a split second It is difficult to describe but imagine if your desktop was open in internet explorer or something having a menu bar and the minimize expand and close X options in the top right like most windows programs do This by itself doesn't pose much of a problem but it started the exact same time the other symptoms began occurring so I am a bit concerned I will leave the original post intact below for future reference and people having similar problems -------Original Post-------- Hello Within the past - days my laptop on Windows has been acting quite slow and upon looking at my computer resources through Windows Task Manager and Process Explorer I found that two processes svchost exe and explorer exe were taking almost GBs out of the GB I have of memory I have tried Malwarebytes scan and Rootkit but both have come up clean I will post a few things I have found out svchost exe I understand that this is a normal process but there seems to be one rogue svchost exe among the bunch that usually starts up around minutes after a bootup of the laptop and stays starting with a low memory usage around K but gradually rising to more than GB at peak though it generally lingers around the K area One thing I have noticed is that the svchost exe that rises in memory usage does not have its typical Parent services exe - it has had both none and svchost exe as its Parent in different cases which also made me suspicious It also seems to be accessing a long list of addresses when looking at the TCP IP tab The process can be terminated but starts up again on a reboot of the laptop explorer exe The explorer exe process does not start immediately but rather at a time around minute after the desktop has booted up Like the svchost exe it starts at around K memory usage but also gradually rises until it reaches more than GB at its peak It seems that this process is parented by the real explorer exe and cannot be terminated by itself access denied however upon termination of the real explorer exe and thus the display of the desktop this process shuts down afterwards taking anywhere between - seconds to terminate Upon looking at the TCP IP tab it seems to be accessing an extensive list of various websites some of which I recognized as facebook amazon twitter none of which I even access on this computer I have attempted restoring the desktop after manually running explorer exe after terminating it and the same thing happens - after the desktop restores it takes about minute until the second explorer exe shows up and starts increasing in memory usage Maybe more than one two infections In general my computer is much slower and the fan is much noisier than usual I assume because it has to work hard to output the power for the CPU After closing both of the processes above however it seems that using other programs is managable - with...
