Acer laptop 7520 shuts itself down after few seconds

Q: Acer laptop 7520 shuts itself down after few seconds

my acer laptop 7520 shuts itself down after booting for few seconds.
It has Vista but dont think its a software / virus issue. As I got into BIOS / booting menu, it did not stay there. it shuts itself down.

I removed CD rom from laptop but had same result. It has two 1GB rams, I removed them one at a time but had same result. I then removed Harddisk and tried to make it boot from USB, but had same result. It was shutting down after 10 - 30 seconds. I see the Fan running when ever I start the laptop. Fan is very clean. no dust, dont think its a heating problem then.

please can some one advise what could be issue.

I ran it on full battery but had same result. Then I removed battery and connected the power cable into laptop, same result. it shuts down after few seconds.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds as though its over heating. You might try taking a can of air and blowing the vents out. If this has not helped. You may need to take it to a repair shop. and have the thermal pads replaced.

Sounds bad.

Are you able to run Memtest for any length of period? Search for YUMI Multiboot. Download that, install it to a spare USB stick. Download memtest from yumi program. Boot off of stick and run memtest.

If not get a new motherboard/cpu off ebay.

I've a Acer 17" Aspire 7520 Gemstone Vista Laptop.

The computer powers up and then switches off and it powers up in a loop. Nothing comes up on the screen.

Could it be a ram failure??

Any suggestions what the problem is otherwise

I have a Acer Aspire 7520 laptop that used to have Vista installed. I've been playing with it some and installed Ubuntu some time back. Got recovery and system disks from Acer to reinstall Vista but keep getting a window saying something about windows/vista not able to install with this hardware. I haven't changed any of the original hardware and have reformatted the drive with both fat and ntsf but get the same problems with hardware message.

Hi everyone

My laptop Acer aspire 5750 shuts down after few seconds at power on. I have checked the ram, hd, battery, power pack on a similar brand laptop and are all working good.

I removed the fan and heat sinks, cleaned them plus the inside cover. After all this I had every thing back together powered on machine and found fault still persists.

At the moment right now I think I have a faulty mother board caused by a short.

I need assistance if anyone can help me get around fixing this fault.

Thank you

A:Acer Aspire 5750 Shuts down after few seconds of powering up.

If you think it's caused by a short, you'd have to remove the board from the shell, lay it on cardboard, and try and power it up that way.

If everything is secured in place, I'd lean towards motherboard failure as well.

Hello all.
My sister in laws Acer aspire 5750z-4885 was recently sat on and the screen is cracked. I was going to replace it for her but before I order a new screen I was wondering if it is even just the screen and not something else that I cannot repair. The laptop since getting the screen cracked will shut off after powering up in about 4-7 seconds or so I haven't used a stop watch lol.
I am wondering if perhaps there is a short or some other dmg caused by the screen being cracked that will not be remedied by replacing it. I have limited experience with cracked lappy screens. Thank you all so much for any and all replies I love this board and it has helped me many times in the past.

A:Acer aspire 5750z-4885 shuts off after 4 to 7 seconds

Yes, the cracked LCD screen can be the cause of the shutdown. Replacing the LCD panel is not that difficult for someone experienced, but for you it might be too much. You have to disassemble the top cover without breaking the plastic. The video cable might not be included with the new panel, so you would have to use the old cable. The cable connection to the panel is very delicate...

What happened prior to the problem? There are many possibilities as to why it would exhibit those behavior. The first thing to check if the CMOS battery is dead or needs replacement. You would have to open up the laptop and read that manual and remove certain parts such as RAM, HD, network card or reseat the CPU and check if there are burn mark on the mobo itself.

Remove any addon component (like any external USB connections)
Remove any disc in the CD drive
Try blowing out the fan again (actually you may need to really open the laptop up, and clean and re-paste the CPU heatsink - but this is difficult)
Also reseat and blow dust away from the Ram card(s)

Hello everyone, first post here and of course it's a problem.

I have a Compaq Presario that I just bought off eBay without a HDD. I got the HDD today and went to plug it in and wouldn't you know, the Computer Starts up, I see "Compaq" and then it shuts down. Right before it shuts down it shows the Power Light disappearing on the Status bar on the Laptop. I could really use some help. The only thing I did was disconnect everything to get a bad floppy drive out. I'm a Mac person myself, so I'm not sure whats going wrong here.

Starting from around a week ago my VAIO VPCSA GG would randomly shut down as if the power is cut off then restart itself to seconds later Sometimes it would happen after 3 Laptop seconds itself down, randomly restarts later shuts I d used it for a while but other times it would happen repeatedly right when Windows is just booting up causing the computer to get stuck in a boot loop I ve ruled out many possible causes It s not overheating I ve monitored the temperature and the laptop would randomly shut down even when not in heavy use Also if the computer overheats it would normally shut down without Laptop randomly shuts down, restarts itself 3 seconds later restarting itself after It s not the hard drive or the OS The problem persisted even when I booted from an external device with the hard drive completely removed It s not the memory I ve done numerous memory tests and they never showed any problem I ve tried removing the memory card leaving GB of memory that s integrated into the motherboard but the problem remained The interesting thing is that the laptop would never shut down randomly when I m inside the BIOS menu or when I m running memtest In fact after running memtest for a while the random shutdowns would not happen again for a long period after at least minutes The problem usually comes back after the laptop hasn t been used for a while the next morning It s not the BIOS I ve tried flashing a new BIOS but the problem remained It s not the battery or the charger The random shutdowns can happen when running on battery or AC power even with the battery completely removed It s not the CMOS RTC battery Even with the main battery removed the clock didn t get messed up after hours The CPU seems to be getting stable voltage It would go up but never drop below V I ve run the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and it reported no problem Has anyone experienced the same problem I m running out of idea for possible source of this problem Is it likely just faulty main board Is there anything I can do to save my laptop Any help would be greatly appreciated nbsp

A:Laptop randomly shuts down, restarts itself 3 seconds later

What version of Windows ? 32 or 64 bit ? Just to be sure it also shuts down when on battery power without the charger connected ?

As it seems to run ok in the Bios that implies a Windows problem so run it in Safe Mode (with Networking if you want Internet access) and see if it still shuts down then. Safe Mode uses only basic drivers so it could help find the culprit if it's a driver problem.

First check with malwarebytes, for malware.

Take the memory diagnostic test to make sure memory is ok. 1GB is never going to be enough.

Go to search type cmd, then right clikc do not hit enter. In CMD type sfc /scannow. Any small corruption will be fixed.

In the device manager make sure that all drivers are ok. You will see a yellow warning marker by any defective drivers.

Make sure your drivers are up to date

Shut off you A/V If it runs faster, dump it and get MSE Microsoft Security Essentials.

Then come back and report.

Sounds like a mobo problem. could be a capacitor bubbled up and leaked, could be a short on the board, could be a crossed/not grounded pin. I would see if it has any warranty.

When I start Blackshot, it opens up to the character page. When I click create a character, my computer screen turns black.

Then the laptop either shuts down after a blue screen pops up saying that the computer was shut down to prevent damage.

After a while the screen comes up again saying that the display driver had stopped responding.

I tried leaving Blackshot the way it was, but the computer went black for a while then it comes up again saying the display driver stopped responding. Then it goes to the blue screen.

When I close Blackshot after the screen comes back up again after going black, everything works normally.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire, it is a Vista.

I don't know what information you need to solve this problem, but if you do need information please ask.

I forced a restart, and after the initial boot screen it was left on an almost completely black screen with a white blinking underscore in the top left corner, even left for a while this didn't change.

I've tried restoring default settings in the f2 Boot Menu, leaving the system shut down over night, but nothing else so far as I don't want to damage it further.

Please help!

So just today while i was on my PC, it randomly shut off. No warnings. Nothing.
I thought it overheated so i watched some TV and came back an hour later hoping it would start up fine, but instead my computer made it all the way to the desktop then shut off. After it shuts off it continues to try and start back up by itself but fails and shuts off.
Ive gone through and made sure all the wires are plugged in securely and it still hasnt fixed the problem. Everything seems to be getting power which leads me to believe that i might have a bad power supply.

I Have fitted a new motherboard (MSI K9AGM2) toegether with an AMD Sempron cpu and 1 gig ram purchased as a package. The unit booted up but while I was in setup keying in date and time everything shutdown (unit ran for 5 mnutes). Now when I try to start it goes for 1 to 2 seconds then everything shuts down including fan on power supply. If i unplug the Jpw1 (power for cpu) it keeps running ok and doesn't switch off without the cpu. Heat sink checked and reset - doesn't seem to be hot and couldn't in 1 second. Have unpluged power to hard drive and cd but that doesn't change it. Must be something switching everything off at startup. Any idea's??

When I try to turn it on, either it won't come on at all, or it will start to boot up, but after about 3 or so seconds, it shuts off. Any ideas on what could be causing this problem. A:PC shuts down within few seconds

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Can you boot into safe mode?

Can you access the bios?

Try disconnecting anything not required to boot the system. Just leave 1 stick of ram/hdd/video card/cpu/mobo and see if it boots.

Check that the heatsink is properly attached.

Check the mobo for any swollen or leaking capacitors. See HERE for further info.

See if any of the above helps.

Hello, I have a computer that I have built about 2 or 3 months ago. It works great up until the other day I decided to turn it on, but it turned on for about 3 seconds, then shut off and it does it every time I try to boot it up. I have changed the power supply and it does the exact same thing.

System Specs are as followed:

AMD Athlon 3800+ (Single Core)
1GB Ram
450W PSU
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS graphics card
ASUS M2N-MX SE Motherboard
160 GB Hard Drive

That is pretty much it along with 4 other fans here and there. But as you see, I have heard lots about this problem so I decided to change PSU's but it does the exact same thing. So I am thinking its not my PSU.

Please help, its my gaming computer and is literally killing me cuz its not working!! lol but yea, any advice/help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

I reseated cards & replugged everything in again looking for bad connections. Any suggestions? Motherboard? Ram? Hard Drive?

A:Solved: XP Shuts Down after a few seconds

You might try unplugging the hard drive and see if it still shuts down after a certain amount of time. If the same thing happens, pull the memory and see if you get beep codes and whether or not the pc still shuts down after the same amount of time. If pulling the power to the hard drive takes care of it, it is probably a software issue.

It has done this for a long time now - I use firefox mostly but could do with IE7 working properly as well.

When I start it up it loads and the tabs appear and then it shuts itself down sometimes if I start it up again it will work OK but sometimes it will continue shutting itself down again.

I have tried the windows install of IE7 from the microsoft site and it appeared to be installing it (reinstalling) but the same problem persists....

I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's computer which I'm sure is infected with some kind of virus. She has XP home edition. After the icons load on the desktop, an error comes on stating that MSN has detected an error...she also said that the Microsoft send/ don't send error comes on the screen. After she hits don't send or even send, that's when the 60 seconds start to count down and shut off her computer. Any suggestions??

Woke up to notice that my computer was off. I typically leave it running all the time.

Wouldn't start. I press the power button, the processor does it's thing for about 5 seconds, beeps and then shuts off. Happens like this every time. Cleaned the fans and lubed them. Noticed that the fan over the heat sync wasn't moving. Replaced it. Still will not stay on for more than 5 secs. Even when nothing is hooked up other than the motherboard.

Had the power supply tested as this happened to me a year ago. Tested fine. Had it looked at by a 'professional' but could not figure out.

Running an Orion power supply. AMD 1.2ghz. 512 ram. 2 hard drives, a cd drive and a DVD drive. 16' monitor, Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse. Windows XPSP2.

It sounds as though I m shuts powering up... after seconds PC off having the same problem or a very similar one as dmdmkm on a PC I m working on I ve worked on computers for years and this is PC shuts off seconds after powering up... the first time I have come across this problem I was PC shuts off seconds after powering up... brought an eMachines T AMD Athlon w W power supply that would no longer boot when the power button was pressed My first guess was that either the power supply was dead the power switch on the tower was broken or the motherboard was fried To kill two birds with one stone I bought a new tower with a W power supply and transferred all the components over to it Now when I go to boot the PC it powers up for - seconds and then shuts right off The only things plugged into this motherboard are a PCI modem and a stick of memory MB DDR PC everything else is built into the motherboard If anyone has a suggestion that can help me either fix this problem or narrow the problem down so that I can identify exactly what s wrong with the PC so I won t have to go though all of this again if it ever shows up in a future PC it would be greatly appreciated Thank you nbsp

Hi, my computer turns off after about 10 seconds after pressing the power button.
If i try to power up again ( after it turns off)i get nothing, so i have to turn off the switch in the back and wait a few seconds.
After waiting it does turn on for 10 seconds and shuts down again.
I'm thinking power supply ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hope I'm in the right place.

A:Computer shuts down after 10 seconds

Not sure this will help, but it may be useful, . .

The power button light located on the front of the computer illuminates and blinks or remains solid to indicate different states:

If the power light is green and the computer is not responding, see "Diagnostic Lights."
If the power light is blinking green, the computer is in standby mode. Press a key on the keyboard, move the mouse, or press the power button to resume normal operation.
If the power light is off, the computer is either turned off or is not receiving power.
Reseat the power cable into both the power connector on the back of the computer and the electrical outlet.
If the computer is plugged into a power strip, ensure that the power strip is plugged into an electrical outlet and that the power strip is turned on. Also bypass power protection devices, power strips, and power extension cables to verify that the computer turns on properly.
Ensure that the electrical outlet is working by testing it with another device, such as a lamp.
Ensure that the main power cable and front panel cable are securely connected to the system board.
If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
Ensure that the voltage selection switch is set to match the AC power at your location (if applicable).
If the power light is steady amber, a device might be malfunctioning or incorrectly installed.
Remove and then reinstall the memory modules.
Remove and then reinstall any cards.
Remove and then reinstall the graphics card, if applicable.
Ensure that the processor power cable is securely connected to the system board.
Eliminate interference. Some possible causes of interference are:
Power, keyboard, and mouse extension cables
Too many devices on a power strip
Multiple power strips connected to the same electrical outlet

I've already replaced the PSU, added some arctic silver to the cpu, disconnected everything except for the 24pin and 4pin aux connectors. The computer turns on, then shuts itself off almost right away.
I disconnected the 4pin aux connector, so just the 24pin was connected and NOTHING else, and it stayed on. So I pinpointed it to the 4pin....what does this mean?

A:Computer shuts down in 3-4 seconds

which graphics card are you using and can you boot into Safe Mode? if so, uninstall your graphics drivers and then reinstall them. it's sounding like the graphics card or the drivers are to blame, which is a fairly common problem. Windows may not be booting because there is a problem with the driver and therefore needs to be reverted or updated. the card could also be overheating in which case you may need to let it cool off before trying to boot windows again.

A:PC starts up for a few seconds then shuts down

It could be a heat problem. Remove and reinstall the heatsink and when you reinstall it, be sure you have full contact between the bottom of the heatsink and the top of the processor. And be sure to use a light coating of some kind of heatsink grease or the like.

The problem started after i reinstalled XP, for system slow performance issue.
After XP installation, the noise from one of the system's fan was too much
and the PC shut down abrubtly.

Now the processor (intel) starts,Motherboard LED glows, CPU fan runs, but shuts down after few seconds. Now there's no much noise from any of the fans, but the fans do work.

No POST, No Video. Keyboard does not respond. No LEDs glow on Keyboard.
Not able to enter BIOS.

I've reseated RAM, CPU and also have cleaned the RAM.
All physical connections are correct.SMPS Works fine.

Please help me with this...

A:My Desktop PC shuts down after around 20 seconds of start

I'd say system slow performance followed by high fan speed followed by shut down sounds like the CPU overheated. Since you now get no post, it sounds like the CPU is damaged. My 2 cents.

>  [came] from a computer I found on the side of the street, someone had no use for it any more and set it out there. Maybe, that "someone" was having intermittent problems with the motherboard, and, being lazy, did not "responsibly recycle" it, by just tossing it to the curb, where you found it. Turn it off.Disconnect the power-cord.Disconnect the power to the CD/DVD and to the 3 disk-drives.Reconnect the power-cord.Turn it on.Does it still "burp" and restart itself? If so, turn it off, disconnect the power-cord, and remove the two sticks of RAM.Then, reconnect the power-cord, and turn it on.It should "beep" after not detecting any RAM, if it's working properly.Again, disconnect the power-cord, and insert _one_ stick of RAM, preferably from some other source, and see if changing the RAM changes the symptoms.

A:System powers on for 2-3 seconds, then shuts down

It is probably the power supply

The power supply is probably going bad. You may have over loaded it, or it might have recieved a shock of some kind (power surge maybe?), or it is just not as young as it used to be.

What ever you do DO NOT use the 230 setting on the power supply unless you live in Europe.

do you have a surge protector? if you don`t you should get one. If you do it may need to be replaced. :approve:

If it`s not that then check the processor. you may have done something when you were cleaning the heat sink.

Hi Millurn welcome to the site.

seem odd that they Would BOTH not work. Might be the CPU might be at fault here. I am surprised that it does not work as everything is compatible.

It also sounds like it might be the PSU. Can you get hold of another 400W plus PSU and see if that works. If so then you know what the Issue is.

A:Help! Computer starts for 2 seconds then shuts off!

This going to sound real annoying to you.

But remove the motherboard again !
Check when removing that all posts and wires (bare) are not touching eachother
If possible (better to do this) "bench test"
ie nothing connected to back of motherboard except video (onboard preferably - if pos) and power, (and ram and cpu and heatsink/fan)
Short the power pins (screwdriver will do) and hopefully it turns on.
To turn off pull the power cord (or short the power pins for 3 secs)

If that worked, do one thing added at a time
Then re-install m/b and test again.

My friend's computer decided to stop functioning recently without warning. No new hardware was added, no new software, nothing changed about the computer much at all. He just tried to restart it one day, and it wouldn't. Unfortunately, I don't have much in the way of specs, but here's what I've done:

? Cleaned out TONS of dust
? Made sure fans are spinning
? Tried different power cords and outlets
? Swapped/added/removed RAM
? Unplugged all external devices
? Disconnected CD drive

After all those (not all at once of course), the computer still shuts down about 5 seconds after being turned on. It doesn't even make it to the BIOS screen before it just shuts off. About once in every 10 tries it will run properly, but fails again after turning it off. Any ideas what may cause this?

(p.s. Sorry if this is in the wrong category, I couldn't figure out where to put it since I don't really know the problem)

In scenario 2 with the IDE out the PC got past the boot menu, showed the safe mod, run normally etc options for a few seconds then cut out.
In scenario 3 with the orange flat wires from the hard drive and DVD drive switched and the IDE in (friend said this might work) it got to the part where the squares create the windows flag and cut out almost immediately.

Welcome to the forum. It's not clear have you just got this PC or has it worked OK before? If its a new PC have you done a clean install of windows not tried to use an old install

Have you tried formatting and putting on a clean load. Sometimes, when upgrading, old drivers from a previous O/S can wreak havoc with a system. It's the best suggestion I can make at this point.

I turned on my computer this morning and too my horror it shut down after about 2 seconds.

I have tried other ram and things, no difference, the hard drive is starting because it vibrates when you lift it, all the fans are starting up fine.

I tried taking out all the wires and re-seating them, and I have noticed something - you know the yellow and black came with the 4 pins that goes into the motherdrive, when I take that out the machine stays on but theres no graphics on screen, but when I plug it back in - it just shuts down again.

Anyone know what is going on? or how to fix this?

You mean the four pin plug that powers the CPU on the Motherboard?

Try having a check on the CPU fan, it may be faulty
To test it, you could unplug the CPU Fan, and try turning on the computer (do note that this will only be a few seconds test)

Other than that, I'd say Power Supply faulty

So I've built countless computers and you always gotta have that one problem that keeps you down! I built my first I7-930 last night. I turn it on and it goes on for maybe 20 seconds or so and shuts off, reboots and then goes off. I know it could be a lot of reasons. I have a good quality antec PSU and a good Evga X58 motherboard. I had 3 sticks of ram in and then tried all 3 separate in and same problem. Now, I think it could be the cpu overheating. with the 20 seconds i had, i was able to get into bios and check the status of the computer. I noticed the temp of the cpu was 85 Celsius. that seems wayyyyyy too hot. I removed the stock thermal paste and applied arctic silver 5 which i always do. Maybe the heat sink isn't on tight enough? It's pretty snug. any ideas?

The machine powers up and I am able to get to the screen at which I push the DEL key to go to BIOS settings but the machine just powers down. The green mobo light remains on. I get a no signal on the monitor and the fans quit. I have checked all connections but can't put my finger on it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Here s the story Whenever I try to start up my computer I hear seconds. Computer during startup 10 after shuts off the fan on my graphics card start to kick up quite a bit and then it slows down and kicks up again and then the computer shuts off The thing is if I pull the battery from my mobo let the CMOS default and restart the computer it works just fine Windows starts up and everything But when I click quot restart quot it just completely shuts the computer down doesn t restart and it goes back to step until I pull the battery again and it starts up just fine I originally thought it could be windows some virus or something so I decided it was the best time to try windows so I wiped my HDD s and put Windows RC on Computer shuts off during startup after 10 seconds. it Windows gets on it but NOPE same problem persists So it s not a lt bleeping gt virus then it has to be something to do with my graphics card or mobo right I decide to start my computer up without the power plugged Computer shuts off during startup after 10 seconds. into my graphics card but my computer still shuts down after seconds so the problem isn t my graphics card What the lt bleep gt is Computer shuts off during startup after 10 seconds. going on I m on it right now so i ts not like it s a powersupply problem It has something to ing do with the BIOS CMOS Anyone have a clue Or what I should do nbsp

When I start IE8 for the first time from boot up, it shuts down on its own within ten seconds. I then reopen it and runs normally from there on.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.

I built my PC this summer and it's had few problems with the actual windows os and not the BIOS. So it's been working fine until two days ago. I leave my computer on 24/7 basically unless it freezes for some reason. Well I left it on on Friday night and woke up to the windows start bar and start menu being frozen. I could click everything else. So, I shut it down with the PSU switch. I turned it back on to see that it turned right back off within seconds. I tried over and over but it just kept doing it. I can't get to the BIOS screen at all. The amount of time between shutting off seems to vary. Can someone please tell me what's wrong and what to do?

Hi First off let me say that I m fairly competant with computers I ve been building my own rigs for about - years now and usually am able to problem solve my own issues Recently however I ve come up against something I can t even diagnose so I m coming to you all here seconds Shuts Down after Computer Solved: 1-3 and TechSupportGuy because you ve been very helpful in the past The Problem Yesterday while playing a game that doesn t require Solved: Computer Shuts Down after 1-3 seconds any heavy graphical or processing power my computer crashed straight power-down and this made me concerned about perhaps some issue with my cooling systems so I reinstalled SpeedFan and CoreTemp to get some solid readings off the Solved: Computer Shuts Down after 1-3 seconds similarities of both However the temps were reading around c under full load Memtest for my processor I let this run for a while to make sure of my readings Other temperatures on my mobo were around - c and my video card was running around c idle I m pretty sure that memtest doesn t utilize any graphical processing power right My next step was to test the video card under full load so I loaded up Battlefield and instantly crashed This was seriously concerning so I tried the test twice more Both times when my computer had to render anything serious it immediately crashed However on the third test the computer wouldn t restart It would start up the LED s would turn on inside the fans and on the mobo and video card and then immediately shut down It repeats this process every couple of seconds as though it were a dying animal struggling to get up my poor ol girl As I am at a point where I can no longer diagnose it myself I m coming to you all for help I have a very tight budget as a student and I need to be as sure as possible as to what the issue is before I try to replace any parts Hopefully my tests before it dying help rule out any options nbsp
