When I'm connected to the Internet, I get the black screen with the Windows XP logo flitting about if I've been innactive for 2 mins. Can I correct it?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Only when connected to the internet?

These crashes are DirectX/graphics card related. DirectX comes installed with Windows, so this may indicate Windows corruption. It may also be that you have corrupted drivers or a graphics card hardware problem.
If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.
Run a system file check to check Windows for corruption: Click Start Menu
Click All Programs
Right click Command Prompt
Click Run as administrator
and press Enter
Once it is complete, make note of the message. If it says Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations., restart your computer and post back
If the message does not say Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations., restart your computer and do steps 1-6 again.
You may need to do steps 1-6 up to three times with a restart in between each run to resolve all corrupted files.
If you still have corrupted files after a fourth run, post back here with the following:Click Start Menu
Open your C: drive
Copy and paste CBS.log or CBS (it may not have the log extension) to a location you will remember.
Compress (zip) the CBS file and attach the .zip file to your next post.
Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.

When I closed my laptop today, the silver back came away from black border around screen on the lower left corner by tne hinge.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/silver-back-is-coming-away-from-black-border-around-screen/td-p/5681482

Screensaver is enabled and so is 'Display welcome screen when coming back from screensaver'.
This works most of the time, however on a regular basis the screensaver will resume to the following screen and just stay there forever.
The only thing to do is to press the power button, at which point a popup alerts that a user is logged in, do you still want to shut down.
I need help ASAP. My computer was having many issues today, so I did a system restore. When it was done, it downloaded updates, I only restored it back to yesterday. Now, when I log into my account, the screen stays black and all I see is the pointer. What can I do to solve this? The PC is shut down right now.
Usually, system restore is used to resolve problems like this. You might want to consider doing a clean install and see if that has any affect. Hopefully your data is saved on an external or flash drive. There's also additional options that you can find here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Resolving-stop-blue-screen-errors-in-Windows-7

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. Please help. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. I'm hoping there will be a patch or service pack or some update that will fix this. Any ideas why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?
I had the same problem at first. Then one day the listing of all my apps disappeared. I did a refresh and lost a lot of programs but the files were still there. Then I noticed that the problem with the apps had fixed itself and they worked. My feeling is that the initial install wasn't complete and the refresh completed the install. Recently, after loading my Epson printer's CD, the apps once again disappeared. Had to do a system restore. Now I am having trouble with my screen just being black and not coming on at all...even after a reboot. Win8 has a lot of problems.http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/12839-windows-8-pro-screen-goes-black-back-lock-screen.html
A few times now I have been in internet explorer and then the screen with go back and forth from black screen back to internet screen and back and forth between the 2 for a few minutes and then will hit me with a blue screen with a bunch of writing on it and then will restart. It seems to run fine after the computer restarts itself but this has happened a few times now!
Can you provide a few details [remember we can't see or touch your system] about the hardware and software?
Hi I have a brand new laptop HP Envy with Windows Home Premium Sometimes when I come out of Hibernation mode especially a long-duration Hibernation I get a black screen that does not go away without me putting the computer into Sleep mode first The sequence of events goes like this The quot HP quot logo appears after I hit the power switch to turn on the computer The message quot Resuming Windows quot appears A black screen appears briefly with a blinking cursor black Hibernation... 7 when of out Windows screen coming in the upper-left hand corner The screen goes completely black a quot truer quot black than the one from Windows 7 black screen when coming out of Hibernation... step I can get rid of this black screen by shutting the lid of my laptop which sends it into Sleep mode and then lifting the lid again in this case the screen appears which allows Windows 7 black screen when coming out of Hibernation... me to click my username to access the desktop NOTE When coming out of Hibernation there are times when the black screen from step lasts only a few seconds but the fact that sometimes it lasts permanently without my intervention bothers me Can someone please help me resolve this Thankshttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/374221/windows-7-black-screen-when-coming-out-of-hibernation/
Hi people, i've just registered to this forum to ask you about this, Since i've made a registry defrag with TuneUp Utilities (which probably has gone wrong), when i reset the computer, and I logon to my user, it shows a black screen, then back at the logon screen. If I do it again, the user doesn't show up anymore!
It happened three times already, i had to make new users, and i'm sick of it. Any ideas of what could it be?
Yet another case of registry defraggers causing harm. In the future, you know now to stay far away from them.
I suggest a system restore to get to a point before TuneUp utilities. If that doesn't work, it will be time for a repair install.
I have Win7 Ultimate x64 installed on an brand new HP Pavilion s5-1205z Slimline desktop.
When I am reading an email or document the screen will just suddenly flash to a black screen for a second. Sometimes it does this several times in a row, and other times just once or twice. It is random and does not matter what program I am in, if I am browsing, playing a video on-line, or typing. I have installed Java and done as much troubleshooting as I can and can't find anything that relates to that kind of behavior at all in the Help Files or FAQ's.
Any suggestions of where I might look to see if I need to check or uncheck something, and what, would be very much appreciated.
Combining the info that you posted here with the info in this thread - I gotta wonder if someone is able to remote into your computer. If you are not too far along in setting up your computer, you might want to consider a clean install without all of the bloatware.
Unless you have a specific need for Java - uninstall it. If you need it, then it might be worth the security risk of having it installed. If you don't need it - then why risk having it installed?
I recently ran the auto upgrade to from and when my computer boots up I see the windows icon with the spinning dots underneath and then my screen says quot not supported quot After a few minutes the tv says quot no signal quot That makes me think that it is getting a signal from the computer that is simply not compatible until the screen saver kicks in and it gets quot no signal quot If i wiggle the mouse after the quot no signal quot appears on the tv it flickers and then says quot not supported quot again I am using a Lenovo q that runs to my MAG tv via hdmi I do not have another monitor windows icon Screen cusor at boot/no Black after to plug into although I am bringing home a monitor cord to connect Black Screen after windows icon at boot/no cusor to my tv in hopes that it will work If it does what setting should I be looking for to make the tv display work through the hdmi I use this as a home theater setup and have all my kids movies running on it It has worked great until now and I am regretting upgrading to Thanks for any help Nickhttp://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/33327-black-screen-after-windows-icon-boot-no-cusor.html
I have 8.1...Hp pavillion20.
I did download w 10. I didn't like it so went back to 8.1.
Did that ok. I uninstalled the KB3035583...that went ok but
the windows icon keeps coming back on my taskbar.
When a update appears to be downloaded. how do I check the number
of it first to see what it is. I think I might of let it go through last night when
I was shutting down.
]Is this 10 going to keep coming up? Anyway to get rid of it permanently.
I intend to stay with my 8.1 as I don't like 10 and it disabled a lot of my stuff
when I had it.

So sorry to be asking this, but it's been a couple days and I'm still needing some of your good help. Is there anyone who can assist me to deal with this malady? I send many, many thanks to you all.
I just bought a new HP Envy 17.5 inch laptop. I have found that if the screen is pushed back more than about 95 degrees that the screen goes black. This is unacceptable as the screen needs to go back for easy viewing. Is there a config setting I can turn off this?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/screen-goes-black-when-screen-is-pushed-back/td-p/5655151
So here's the deal screen Black Windows [SOLVED] after screen loading starting from the beginning Note I've been away for about a year and I just got back today I'm pretty psyched about Starcraft so I tried to install it a couple hours ago [SOLVED] Black screen after Windows loading screen The software failed to connect to the Internet to validate the installation At the suggestion of a member of another forum I ran ComboFix exe It totally fixed the problem I could have [SOLVED] Black screen after Windows loading screen stopped there but I was a little greedy I then installed Windows Updates on my computer up to but not including XP Service Pack I did this because SC II more or less asked me to I restarted upon completion and the problem began After the Windows loading screen the screen becomes black Shortly afterward there is no more input to the monitor it turns off I hear a beep every seconds from my computer but nothing else This continues until I restart Safe Mode and Last Known Configuration do not work I have the Recovery Console installed but I don't know what to do with that Unfortunately I disabled System Restore quite a while ago to save space I am fairly certain the culprit is these Windows updates What I would ideally like to do is well uninstall them I don't know how to navigate the text workspace of the Recovery Console though and I don't even know if it can be done I'd really appreciate any help at all It's so unfortunate that my computer worked great after a year of sitting idle and then I went and messed it up in an hour
Use an XP Installation Disk to run chkdsk, and hope your problem is HD errors.
If Safe Mode, Last known good configuration and System Restore are all not working, the only thing left is a Repair Installation.
Do you have a XP Installation disk ?
I am not able to login to any forum (php sites) since the last few days. Every time I try logging in, the msg. "thank you for logging in ..." comes up and though it tries to redirect me to the next screen, it ultimately comes back to the login screen asking for my username and password again. I have tried deleting cookies manually but its was of no use. I have also tried using mozilla but the problem remains the same. I have the same problem with all forums. have ran my AV(Mcaffee) but no virus showed up.
I am using IE version: 6.0.2900.2180
Win XP home edition, version 2002, service pack 2
please let me know if any more information is needed. please help me ASAP.
Thanks in advance.
Hi there asadhu...
Have you tried an alternative browser such as Opera/Firefox? Does the same happen with them?
Also, if you go to your Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Programs tab -> Reset Web Settings (remove tick from Homepage reset otherwise it will revert to default) -> Yes -> OK. -> Advanced tab -> Restore defaults -> Apply/OK.
Then clear your cookies/temporary internet files and history and relaunch IE and try again.
Any help or still the same?
Hi. New to the forum, bit not to tek toys.
I have recently set my PC from 8.1 to the free 10 upgrade offer.
Everything's fine, 'Except' down in the bottom right hand corner a message keeps coming up.... "Activate Windows. Go to settings to activate Windows."
I have gone to settings now, 5 times, & through the whole upgrade procedure 5 times too, including several system restores. Each time I get an on-screen message telling me everything's done, 10 is now fired up & running etc. The 'Activate' message disappears, everything's fine for a week or 2, then I switch the PC on & the message has come back again.
Anyone got any ideas? Thanx.
In an elevated ("run as administrator") command prompt, please run:
Post the result window back as a screenshot. There won't be any uniquely identifying information on it so you don't have to blank anything out. Basically we are looking for anything on that result that says "KMS". If it does contain KMS that would be your problem, but there is other info in there that might point to the problem. What you want to see in the results is "RETAIL" activation channel.
I have had my HP Omen for the past year and over time the hinge at the back seems to be coming further apart from the back. If I push the screen back down at the back it will move back into place but will then immediately move apart again. Considering the price of this laptop I expect to have it for at least another 1-2 years and at this rate, I am afraid that the situation with the hinge will continuously get worse.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Omen-Hinge-coming-apart-at-the-back-by-the-screen/td-p/5836231
Not long after the warranty expired, the metal outside portion of my laptop screen began to seperate from the actual screen, near the hinge. I have an HP Envy Touchsmart. I really like this computer, but now I can not open it because the screen is almost completely seperating from the housing. I have read of others having similar issues - but have not heard of a fix. Any thoughts?
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.
Hi! I have a old acer 1200 with xp home on it just as a computer for a young kid to play with. recently it started shutting down unexpectedly. or so it seemed. It actually seems to be going into standby mode, but when i hit the mouse or a key the screen backlight does not return. in the right light you can see the screen and manipulate it, but the backlight will not come back until you restart.
I have tried updating the video and display adapter drivers with no luck. there are no errors being recorded in event viewer either. Anyone had this problem?? any help will be appreciated.. Thanks.
You removed the old video drivers...and then installed new/fresh drivers?
Installing drivers on top of troubled drivers...can lead to frustration.
The black plastic around the screen is coming off and opens up about 3/4 of an inch both at the hindge and at the left lower side. I can push it in place, but it pops back off. Any suggestionshttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y50-Black-plastic-around-screen-is-coming-off/td-p/3335510
I'm posting this on behalf of someone else, since she can't access her computer because of the following problem:
This person's running Windows XP SP2, and only has one user account without a password. Hence, her computer would automatically boot up to Windows without having to select a user account, etc. However, this morning, the "Welcome" screen came up for the first time ever so I told her to click on her username, which she did. Her desktop wallpaper appeared, as if Windows was starting up, but the "Welcome" screen came back right after. She also tried to click the "Reboot" button at the Welcome screen, to no avail (the computer would reboot and show the same Welcome screen).
Does anyone know what can be causing this? As far as I know, she hasn't installed anything yesterday before turning off her computer.
Thanks enormously in advance.
Hello, I am working on a toshiba labtop
When I press the power button, the power light comes on, led indicator light comes on for power and battery charging comes on. The cd rom fires up, the cpu fan fires up. The screen stays black, The hard-drive led indicator stays off and the hard drive does not spin up. I have tried to reseat the memory and reseat the hard-drive. I have pulled the battery and held the power button without the the ac adapter hooked up for 60 secs, still nothing, hooked up to external monitor and still nothing. Any tips to try to figure this out?
First of all, its a LAPtop, not a LABtop, and secondly, I believe the problem could be the motherboard, although Im not sure because many things can cause something like this. Try some different memory in it, that would be the easiest option and if that doesnt work, it is most likely the video card. And the video card is very difficult to replace on laptops.

When I turn on my computer, the screen has an orange/yellow tint to it, sometimes it stays there for about a second, then goes back to normal. Sometimes it stays there until I restart.
I tried to screen capture it, but it didnt show up in the screen shot.
My display driver is "Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family"
I have an Asus computer running windows 7 x64
Im not sure if theres some type of driver I can download and install to fix this, or what.
I hope someone can help me out! Its a real pain to have to keep restarting until it goes away
Check your monitor cable, give it a little wiggle and see if that affects the tint. The fact that it didn't show up on a screenshot means that it is just the monitor, not the system itself.
Infected with Virus - used malaware (MBAM) removal software and deleted the files. irql_not_less_or_equal (0x0000000A) error occurred. After that, can not boot from XP CD to recover or even sony OEM logo is not appearing.
I get 1 beep code and blue screen most of the screen and black screen some portion. (phenix BIOS)
Attempts to get to BIOS with F2/F3/F8 did not help. Reinserted memory DIMMs and cleaned up inside little, no progress.
(vaio desktop PCV-RZ44g - XP, sp3)
Not sure what to do next. Appreciate your help. thanks.
If you are getting beep codes...something is seriously out of focus.
Have you looked the code up to see what it's trying to tell you?
I have lost my email icon off the start screen I was trying to move it .how do I get it back
You should be able to pin it from your 'all apps' list.http://forums.windowscentral.com/ask-question/441076-how-do-i-get-my-email-icon-back-start-screen.html
When i turn on my pc,the screen goes black right after the motherboard icon.Ive had this pc for a year now and everything was ok 30 minutes ago until i turned it off and on. Could it be a power supply problem? Any help is appreciated.

Hello, I have a dell latitude 6430u with windows 8 pro.
I have a very strange and very annoying problem - the screen seemingly randomly goes black with no cursor, anywhere in windows and then comes back again. Sometimes it remains black for just a second sometimes for twenty seconds. And it may continue going back and forth for up to maybe 5 times or more.
The computer is brand new (two weeks old). A this started about a week ago. But in the beginning it didn't go black randomly, but rather changed resolution randomly. I tried updating the graphics drivers and other drivers and maybe that caused the newer problem.
I would be grateful for any help,
The computer is brand new (two weeks old)
return it! ............ and get another one
Hi, My problem is that the screen keeps flashing black, just for a second, and then coming right back. It's not really a problem, but it seems like it's happening with increasing frequency. The computer is fairly new--less than 6 months old. It's connected to wifi most of the time, I run Opera as a browser, and have a Dropbox account I'm hooked into. I only have about 4gigs free on the hard drive, and the memory (as shown in the task manager) is usually around 85%. I work online, and do have a lot of tabs open at once, so the load can get heavy (that's why I switched to Opera, it was freezing up with Firefox's heavy load). Any insight would be appreciated--I just want to know it's not heading towards a crash! Or if it is, if ther's anything I can do about it. Thanks!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Screen-flashes-black-but-comes-right-back-on/td-p/5732292
Hi everyone. Sometimes a little knowledge is dangerous. Here's what happened After an automatic update last night, my Envy 150 notebook screen stopped working. I was able to connect to an external monitor with no problem. I figured it was related to the update, so I tried to roll it back but was not successful. So here's when I did the dumb thing: I thought maybe the monitor would work fine in safe mode, so I went into msconfig and checked the box to boot into safe mode. Well, now the display still doesn't work, but neither does the external monitor. And I can't figure out how to get it out of safe mode because I can't see what I'm doing with no monitor. Is there anything I can do to get out of this position? Thanks in advance.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Help-my-laptop-screen-is-black-and-I-can-t-get-back-in/td-p/5830373

Hi there, You said you were trying to install Windows 7 but which version are you trying to install. As you mentioned XP install fine, is it possible to access safe mode when this black screen is displayed, restart your machine and keep pressing f8, then from the menu choose safe mode. This way we can rule the graphics card as the culprit.
The other thing I can thing of is that the driver your installing on XP, needs to be XP driver and I am sure you have probably done this already but it is good to check. You could try also installing an older version if provided on the graphics card manufcaturer.
I would personall run a test on the hard drive, I would start with a check disk which can be done using safemode + cmd , the recover console or a live CD. This way we can test the Hard Drive for errors. The live cd I would recommend is http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ which provides many Hard drive testing.
I know the memory you have is new so I cannot say that you need to test it, however try the install with lesser RAM. I can't technically explain how in any way this will do anything, however when your troubleshooting you have to do many things.

I have a recurrent problem in my Toshiba.
Suddenly after some updates from Microsoft PC doesn't start.
It doesn't appear the login screen just the mouse icon, nothing else.
Tried the recovery console from windows but no luck.
My only solution was the recovery image from Toshiba.
It's the second time already I get this problem.
Everything else works great. Any idea?
Sorry I don?t understand this: +It doesn't appear the login screen just the mouse icon, nothing else.+
What mouse icon do you see?
Can you see the Toshiba splash screen while powering on the unit?
Does the system boots up or how can you see the mouse icon (whatever this should mean)?

I was having trouble starting my computer like many other people it seems - it would hang just after the quot starting windows quot screen appeared I had a completely black blank screen no mouse pointer nothing The only way to overcome the issue was by powering down and restarting windows which always seemed to get it running but very frustrating none the less I tried several fixes from this forum without success Thinking about it though I realised that my problem only began after I had reinstalled windows which I had done several times because of faulty memory - everytime I got the same screen after Solved black "loading screen windows" startup problem I know that advice from this forum frequently referred to ensuring all drivers were up to date so I checked mine via Device Manager All showed that they were the latest drivers according to Windows Update However I decided to manually reinstall the motherboard drivers from the ASUS website I had already done so for the chipset namely the SATA and LAN drivers To my delight this seems Solved black screen after "loading windows" screen to have returned my Solved black screen after "loading windows" screen computer to its correct working state with no startup issues Just thought I would post this info in case it is of use to anyone trying to overcome a similar problem
Thanks for posting your solution! Hopefully this will be of use to someone else. I will flag this thread to be marked 'Solved'.

Hi thanks startup, death Black at Solved: all blue with began screen screen a of for checking Solved: Black screen of death at startup, all began with a blue screen my question I haven t found an answer to my particular situation Dell xps m laptop w vista It all started with a blue screen w scrolling text after the fated restart The blue screen text said quot if this is the first time you ve seen this message quot and then comp restarted again showing the blue screen then restarted into windows repair mode after repair mode tried to fix Solved: Black screen of death at startup, all began with a blue screen the problem comp restarted then the screen went black blank right after the little windows loading animation where the bar keeps moving from left to right and there s a small windows logo It all happened fast so there may have been steps I forgot but that s the jist of it Now screen always goes black blank during startup after the windows loading animation so I can t start windows in normal mode I can start in safe mode if I manually force shutdown by holding the power button so I m not imploding with fear ok I am Possible causes This occured right after installing vista updates that restart was when I saw the blue screen Also occured the restart after running a patch called quot Vista TCP IP and UAC AutoPatch quot I downloaded it from softpedia the developer was listed as defcon and their website listed was securevista net but the site is down I found this out after the problem occured The patch had lots of positive reviews and lots of people on other sites also suggest using it to remove the limit of tcp connections which windows unnecessarily imposes Removing the limit supposedly increases P P filesharing speeds so it s a common approach to slow utorrent problems etc to patch the tcp sys file I have since quot unpatched quot it using the unpatch file which came with it but I m suspicious of the software developer now The patch originally disabled UAC user account control which is suspicious to me but I m not highly tech savy so I dunno if that s common or not I did also remove mcafee s security center I was busy I guess that was a mistake should always restart after each big change I apologize for the complication this creates in identifying the problem It s possible I did something else before the fatal restart if none of these three could be the culprit then I ll think harder about what that could be but for now these changes stand out in my mind I m assuming that windows repair mode s changes didn t cause this problem but I don t have any factual reason to believe that What could this be What can I do Thank you p s This is the last time I ever install software from a company that doesn t have an active website even if this wasn t the problem s cause nbsp
I've been working on a dell inspiron 1525 today and cant figure what is causing this problem.
The laptop boots, displays the post screen, and then the screen goes black.
You can boot into BIOS,
You can boot into the Boot menu.
You cannot boot into safe mode, the f8 key does nothing,
when using the boot menu, u can't boot into a windows disc to reload the operating system, it just goes black.
I did however manage to boot into a linux cd i have and run a HDD test (what passed) and a memory test (what also passed).
It does exactly the same on an external monitor aswell so I am lost with this one.
Any ideas would be appreciated
Which OS is on the computer?http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/solved-dell-inspiron-1525-screen-goes-black-after-post-screen-642561.html
hey i recently bought the 'complete edition' of BF2 including bf2, special forces, euro force and armoured fury. i've successfully installed bf2 and special forces but each time i double click on the desktop icon it loads up a small screen with the battlefield 2 logo on it, then my whole screen goes black like it should. but then it always returns to my desktop as if nothing has happened, without a tab in the bottom panel thing.
i've tried adjusting the screen refresh rate in the Video.con file through notepad to match my computer's, and also i've tried running the program as administrator and also in compatibility mode (xp sp2). what more can i do?
I had the same issues(and more) with BF2 with a Vista 64 bit install on a new PC a couple weeks ago. You appear to be doing the right things by running as administrator and XP compatibility mode. Hmmm...I assume you are actually logged in as an administrator with admin rights set up, correct? And when you run BF2 you are right clicking the shortcut and selecting run as administrator from the options there? Mine works fine now using the above procedure. The only other problem I had was crashing to desktop when in an online game. This problem appeared out of the blue at the beginning of April. BF2 would CTD after anywhere between 1 and 20 minutes..every time online. Turns out this started happening to many, many others.
It appears to be a new problem with the EA Download Manager. Once I uninstalled that and reinstalled BF2 from disk and run the game from disk the problem went away. So, if you are using the EA DM, you may want to uninstall it and see if installing and running from disk fixes your proble.
the only other thing I can think that I have read about causing this would be a conflict with you vid card and drivers., but I'm not up to speed with that particular issue.
Every so often my screen will go black and then immediately return to normal. I'm running the most currect Video Driver. There's no rhyme and reason when it will do it and it doesn't do it that often..... What could be causing this? Thanks.

This problem is been happening for some time now. I have not used this computer for a while. I update the Geforce driver and also all the window updates. I ran malware check and antivirus scans everything comes up clean. What can I do to solve this issues, I am at a loss and our local Microcenter Tech group says everything checks out. The screen will go black then may or may not pop back up. If it does pop back up there is a error message that says Video Driver Kernel error version 358.91 or the computer will reboot then post a message that it recovered for a system error. Any help on this would be great. Thank you.
That error seems to indicate a known problem with nVidia drivers.

I'm using Win Home Premium on my Asus desktop and am not a PC expert but managed up. starting TIMES screen after at Black back to get things so that after minutes it either sleeps or hibernates not sure which it's called in a way where the power usage goes down to about watts and the monitor screen shuts off too I think the HD shuts down too Then when I come back and click the left mouse button I can hear some kind of motor start back up in the PC and it takes me to my password screen I enter it and go back to what I'm doing without the need to reboot I like it this way But SOMETIMES instead of waking up like that I just get a black screen and nothing - no way at all to wake it up I have to shut off the power at the UPS turn Black screen at TIMES after starting back up. it on then do a complete reboot from the power on switch Is this a flaw in Win that it does that sometimes
Could be just a transient glitch/bug. You say this is a now and then thing? How often? I'm sure the "motor" you hear is just the HDD starting back up (spinning). How often between times does this happen? In my experience, and others may differ, I've found its best to shut your machine completely off every now and then. Thats not a recommendation, o.k., as not all agree on this, but it works for me. If this happens with some regularity, you could 1.) run a memory test 2.) Run a sfc/scannow to check/repair any corrupted system files. I'll post links to our tutorials on how to do these. Just click on the blue link and follow instructions. Hope this helps!

Screen randomly goes black then comes back on, no message saying display driver has stopped working. Happens every 10-15 minutes. Fresh install of windows 7 too. Anyone has this problem before? Should I try re-seating GPU?
ok so its not ever 10-15, just went 2 hours without it happening, wasn't doing anything GPU intensive, reading my mail..http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/323049-screen-goes-black-second-then-back-without-any-error-messages.html

The Viao laptop has been functioning fine.
A few hours ago it froze then a blue screen popped up and it restarted.
After restarting, it loaded the Vaio splash and then to a black screen with a blinking icon(the stick that blinks when typing).
I have restarted it, and it loads back to the same screen.
I have tried accessing the bios, but no go.
I removed the hard drive and restarted the computer again to boot into bios, still no go. Instead, any button I press makes it say the operating system is missing.
... a blinking icon (the stick that blinks when typing) ...That is properly called the cursor. When you first start the computer, watch the screen closely. Do you see a message somewhere on-screen that says something like "Press <a key> for Setup" (and the <a key> could be one of many such as F2 or DEL)? Pressing that key at that time should get you into BIOS Setup Menu regardless of the current problem, or whether the hard drive is attached or not. Let me know which key you see as needing to be pressed, and whether or not you can access the BIOS Setup Menu using that key.Re: blank black screen with blinking cursor on startupWhat you describe as happening when last using the computer, and the ensuing startup issue, strongly suggests a malware infection of the MBR (Master Boot Record). Let's have a look at the MBR.FIRSTLY, connect the hard drive back up to the laptop! Then, please try the following: You will need a USB drive/flashdrive and a new blank writable CD. Please do the following on a working computer:Download GETxPUD.exe to the Desktop.Run GETxPUD.exe
A new folder will appear on the desktop.Open the GETxPUD folder and click on get&burn.batThe program will download xpud_0.9.2.iso, and when finished will open BurnCDCC ready to burn the image.
Please be patient: This could take awhile - download file size 63MB.Click on Start and follow the prompts to burn the image to a CD.You will use this CD to boot the ailing computer from. Boot the ailing computer with the xPUD CD.(You may have to configure the Boot Menu or BIOS Setup Menu to boot first from the optical/CD/DVD drive.)
A Welcome to xPUD screen will appear.Click on File.Expand the mnt icon on the left (click on the little arrow beside the icon).
sda1, sda2 etc. ...usually correspond to your HDD partitionssdb1, sdc1 is likely to correspond to a USB flashdrive, external USB hard drive etc.Click on the folder that represents your USB drive (sdb1 ?).Click Tool on the top menu, and choose Open Terminal.Type the following at the hash prompt:
dd if=/dev/sda of=mbr.bin bs=512 count=1
Note: Leave a space between the following:
dd ... the executable application used to create the backupif=/dev/sda ... the device the backup is created from (the hard drive when only one HDD exists)of=mbr.bin ... the backup file to create - note the lack of a path - it will be created in the directory currently open in the Terminalbs=512 ... the number of bytes in the backupcount=1 ... says to backup just 1 sector
It is extremely important that the if and of statements are correctly entered.Press the <ENTER> key.
After it has finished a file will be located on your USB drive named mbr.bin.
Remove the USB drive from the ailing computer. On the working computer:Insert the USB drive, and navigate to the file mbr.binZip-up the mbr.bin file:
Right-click on the file and choose Send to .. > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
A zipped folder will appear in the same location as the mbr.bin file. Please attach the zipped file to your next reply.
This will allow the MasterBootRecord of your drive to be checked to see whether or not it is infected.
Hey, im new here ive tryed a couple of other site but no luck so, my problem here is that like a week ago this thing popped up about opera gold its a nice ware has ended and needs to close? so i clicked dont sent then my computer shut off, ok so i turned it back on and after the bios flash screen (where it says press f2 for setup Ect.) it just goes to a black screen. I've tried starting in safe mod it just keeps getting stuck on KDCOM.DLL and just sits there. Anyone got a clue what could be the problem?
I have been having this problem since a week or so. Broni has helped me in malware forum to rule out malware as responsible. My machine is clean and I was refered here for further help.
Here is my problem:
At boot-time, I see windows XP load screen with the progress bar, the progress bar advances to the end and then, the screen turns pitch black and all is see is an arrow cursor I can move around. I thought until yesterday that this was a permanent freeze-up, but if I wait, say, 6 minutes, the black screen disappears and windows then starts normally.
Last week, problem was intermittent, it now happens all the time.
Windows boot-up was fine before.
Please help me.
I had this tons of times with my old XP PC. It is normal if you have a lot of files on the HDD and you have little RAM. How much RAM do you have? What is the capacity of the HDD? And do you have the Windows XP disc? Would you be willing to upgrade the RAM and/or the OS if we must resort to that? Or would you rather just buy a new PC?

Hey Ok well it starts black windows of drives, both loading Two copy screen with XP, after hard screen same off with me managing to either corrupt windows or the hard drive on my original hard drive and when ever I try Two hard drives, both with same copy of XP, black screen after windows loading screen to boot off there I get to the windows loading screen with logo and little green sliding bar and then it restarts and keeps doing that Tried booting in safe mode and from disc but I cannot do anything with it in terms of booting So Two hard drives, both with same copy of XP, black screen after windows loading screen what Two hard drives, both with same copy of XP, black screen after windows loading screen I decided to do was get a second hard drive and install XP onto there and then plug my second hard drive in and see if I can transfer files off there to the new one I got XP installed fine on it but when it came to booting with both hard drives plugged in I came to problems I set which hard drive is the priority one in the bios as there is no pins on the back of this new hard drive and it got to the windows loading screen with the new installation i know this because the loading screens are different for both hard drives After the loading screen my monitors go black and nothing happens Windows loads fine when it is just the new hard drive plugged in even if the old hard drive is plugged in and set to disabled it goes to the black screen If anyone is able to give some advice on what to do or what could be wrong I would be really grateful Thanks Matt nbsp
Sounds like the old hard drive is faulty to me.
When I start windows normally, it get color distortion like this http://puu.sh/NXuz
And then it black screens. In safe mode everything is okay. The things that use same resources http://puu.sh/NXtn
Here is cbs log ( i can't read it)
Thanks for any help
I repeat, in safe mode it works normal, so i suspect driver clash.
Update or reinstall the video drivers.

We'll start with ComboFix. If it doesn't take care of the remaining issues, AVG may have caused more problems than if it had left it alone.
Download ComboFix from here
* IMPORTANT- Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications as they will interfere with our tools and the removal. If you are unsure how to do this, please refer to our sticky topic How to disable your security applications
Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.
NOTE: If you encounter a message "illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion" and no programs will run - please just reboot and that will resolve that error.
I will return this evening - we'll continue then.
I am encountering an issue of when the Dell optiplex 755 boots up, it boots through the Windows XP logo just fine, once it tries to transition between the logo and loading the system up, it just shows a black screen and nothing else happens. I tried using a bootable Windows XP flash drive to repair the system files and it loads the Windows XP setup ok but when it runs through all of the commands on the bottom of the screen and the last one says "Starting Windows" , it takes me to a blue screen (screenshot below). I have HIRENS and have done a lot of the chkdsk commands to fix the files and everything comes back ok. I tried to clone the hard drive with the same exact hard drive and still the same issue. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance.

Today I decided to try out Windows and after Black, logo Win8 Back-lit appears screen found the free trial of Windows Enterprise at MSDN I used the upgrade assistant downloaded to install windows and had to choose the option that deleted Black, Back-lit screen after Win8 logo appears my previous files since the original upgrade option was apparently not compatible with my windows The installation started and after the second-reboot my computer got stuck on a getting ready screen It then restarted again but this time would go into a loop where a screen would pop up saying my computer restarted unexpectedly or has encountered an unexpected error After clicking OK and the computer restarting the Windows logo with the spinning circle below appears for a few seconds then my screen turns black completely black and then goes to being back-lit but still being black I can't put the CD in to try to re-install windows since this was a digital download I also read on other topics that putting the computer to sleep and then waking it up again will fix this but I can't put the computer to sleep when I have no interface to work with I thought this might be a result of my graphics card so I reverted to the onboard car through the BIOS with no luck I've tried booting in safe mode with no luck and can only seem to get into the BIOS Computer HP Pavilion P series New Graphics Card Radeon Core HD Old ATI Radeon HD I can try to provide additional information if needed going to find the box the computer right now After searching around these forums I've tried going in System Recovery by pressing F at startup and get the following Recovery Your PC couldn't turn off properly The operating system on your PC failed to turn off properly and needs to be repaired Error Code xc You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media If you don't have any installation media like a disc or USB device contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer Press Enter to try again press F for Startup Settings Any ideas Help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance
Do you have restore CDs to go back to the original OS? If so, that's where I'd start, then you could try the installation again.
Also, somewhere in the upgrade assistant, it provides the option to burn a disc or make a flash drive to boot off of. Once you get the original OS back on, create a bootable disc for Windows 8.
About 75% of the time when I Restart/Reboot my PC (with XP OS) I get only a black screen after it goes down. In other words, when I Restart it takes the system down but doesn't bring the system back up again. I get no BIOS information, no mouse cursor...nothing - just a black screen. When this happens I have to shut off the PC using the On/Off button on the tower (which I'm always able to use successfully) and when I turn the PC back On again the OS system always comes back (as it should). As I said, this problem only happens about 75% of the time when I Restart/Reboot. This has been happening for at least a few months, but I don't really think about it until I Restart it because I leave the PC on 24/7. Any ideas what the problem may be?
I have a new ProBook G that I use most of the time with a Dell monitor w connected via the DisplayPort with the lid closed and after to monitor screen Black switching back external on the ProBook If I Black screen after switching to external monitor and back lift the lid on the ProBook the display switches to the laptop fine and if I close the lid it switches back to the external monitor Black screen after switching to external monitor and back fine However if I switch inputs on the monitor to view a different computer then switch the monitor back to view the DisplayPort that the ProBook is connected to the ProBook will not display either on the external monitor or on its own screen if I open the lid on the ProBook the display on the ProBook is black as well The only way I have found to recover the display on the ProBook is to force the laptop down by holding the power key until it powers off then powering it back on and letting it boot up I have tried cycling the lid and waiting to see if the ProBook will eventually output on the DisplayPort or the ProBook screen It won t I have tried the Windows P keys without effect as well as unplugging the DisplayPort cable from the ProBook but the display on the ProBook will not come back on The ProBook boots up fine on the external monitor nbsp I have found that if I open the lid on the ProBook before I switch the input on the monitor away from the ProBook then switch the monitor back to the DisplayPort connected to the ProBook and close the lid it switches back to the external monitor fine If I forget to open the lid on the ProBook before switching the external monitor away from the ProBook that is when I get into this black screen issue nbsp Prior to the ProBook I had a HP EliteBook p The EliteBook did not have this issue Lifting the lid on the EliteBook would ALWAYS cause the screen on the laptop to restore nbsp Power options are set to never turn off the display and never put the computer to sleep while plugged in which it always is When I close the lid is set to Do nothing The power button is set to put the ProBook in sleep mode when pressed I thought that I could use the power button to put the ProBook to sleep when it is the black screen mode in hopes that when I brought it out of the sleep mode the screen or monitor would come back Oddly when it is in the black screen mode the power button will not put it in the sleep mode nbsp Interestingly if I just power the external monitor off then back on it does not put it into this black screen mode nbsp Any ideas on how to recover the ProBook from a black screen without doing a forced power downhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Black-screen-after-switching-to-external-monitor-and-back/td-p/5622996
So this has been happening for quite some time now. While in game in almost every game, my screen will periodically freeze and turn black, then after a few seconds come back on to renew game play. This ONLY happens when I am in-game, not while anything else is happening on my computer. During this I can still hear audio from all sources but the game itself. The frequency of this varies from game to game, and some are even free of the problem, but it's become very tiresome. I've tried everything I could think of to fix the problem, including backdating and updating my drivers, but I'm no expert. I can only assume this has something to do with my card, any help would be appreciated
I've got 8 gigs of ram, an Nvidia Geforce GTX 660, CPU is a 2x 3200 MHz, couldn't tell you about the motherboard other than it came with the factory built tower.
Are you running the fan speed at automatic? I was having the same problem with my Radeon HD 7770 when the fan speed was set to auto. Going to a manual fan speed of 60% solved the problem and my GPU runs a lot cooler. Go into your Nvidia control panel and try setting the fan speed above 50% and play your game, bump it higher if you still get black screens. It makes your PC a little louder, but it's better than damaging your card with excess heat.
I don't think that the automatic fan speed modes work on either Radeon or Nvidia cards in the last few sets of drivers, based on the forum complaints that I've been reading lately.

It is a common problem on hp laptops.
Try Manually pressing Fn+F4
You may find that hibernation will work, whilst sleep will not, as sleep retains power to ram and many HP`s had a problem with the graphics card operating properly after sleep mode.
Ok I have my dad's laptop, can't figure out what's wrong with it. It's a 1 year old Hewlett-Packard, windows vista SP 1.
I'm tempted to just restore it. But if it's an easy fix, I'd rather not go to the
hassle of making discs.
We have a trend micro antivirus thing on here. It hasn't found anything.
Basically what it's doing is, every so often, the screen will just go black. It doesn't come back on, you have to shut the computer down and restart to fix it. The computer is not shut off though. You can still mess with the volume and turn the wireless thing on and off, via the onboard controls.
So I'm lost as to what to do. Tried googling it, couldn't find anything real specific. Thanks for any help in advance!

Hello team About since the beginning of this week My computer would without reason turn off the screen goes black and reboots This has happened about times now this week but prior to that it has never done this At first my primary suspect in my mind was Firefox Flash Shockwave because the time the shut-off happens it's when I was online I updated all software and reduced hardware acceleration in response However the last time this has happened I was not online so I'm ruling Firefox and Shockwave out I ran some heat tests with SpeedFan and my cores and GPU seem optimal unless occasionally exceeding C is a problem so I can probably rule overheating out it's not like the fans roar before the computer shuts off I did virus scans Screen) Computer Shuts Turns And Back (black On Off and they came up clean I have Computer Shuts Off And Turns Back On (black Screen) a Dell Studio XPS MT that has approached its th year this summer All of its hardware is stock except the power supply I had it replaced around May of this year because the original died out unexpectedly However since that time I had no problems with the new one I could give the name of the power supply but I don't have it on-hand at the moment Thank you for any assistance you can provide

Hi, I'm having a problem with my Dell Latitude E6400. When I'm not using it for a while the screen goes black (like into a sleeping mode) like all computers and laptops do. But if it stays black for a little while, and when I go to get back on it and move the mouse around or press the keys the screen won't turn back on but the computer is running because the light on the keyboard are lit up and I can hear the fan running. The only way I can get the screen back on is if I shut it down by pressing the power button on my keyboard and turning it back on.
Can anyone please tell me what to do or what is wrong with it. That would be much appreciated. Thank you
Being thirteen doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about.

I am having problems with the screen freeing when running multiple windows (Chrome, office etc etc). When I try to swap between windows, I get a freeze and I am unable to do anything.
The cursor can be seen moving around the screen but has no effect in any area. The Windows Key doesn't ppear, nor can I tab into another programme.
If I try and start task manager to see which program is causing this, it will not appear over the frozen image.
Is there a way of telling from an event log what program is failing?
Ok it all started when I XP cursor won't Black no Windows screen after with the screen. logo boot. ran Nod antivirus I ran it because I had some viruses on my computer that I wanted to get rid of After the scan there were some detected objects that were quarantined or deleted So then I restart my computer and after the windows xp logo there is just a black screen with no cursor And after awhile the computer will just Windows XP won't boot. Black screen with no cursor after the logo screen. restart and try booting up again I tried going into safe mode and safe mode with command prompt but I still get a black screen with no cursor The last known good configuration doesn t work either I m pretty frustrated because I did nothing wrong I am also having a feeling that nod might have quarantined some infected files that are essential for Windows Xp to boot I also do not have any windows xp disks with me because I lost them a very long time ago Is there anything I can do to fix my computer Thanks nbsp
Hi I would really appreciate any advice i've been trying to fix for four hours without any luck.
I have an Acer aspire 5732Z. I turn my laptop on and it shows the starting windows screen then just goes to a black screen with a cursor. I tried to do systems restore but it said that i did not have a system restore point. I cannot start in any safe mode.
I have all my pictures, uni work etc and im terrified i've lost it all. I've only had the laptop a year.
Any suggestion would be amazing
Hello seven11 and welcome to SevenForums!
I think this article will be fairly interesting to read.
Why is my screen black when I start Windows 7?
Hey need some help yet again Yesterday I downloaded Mission Against Terror New MMOFPS and I downloaded it Upon updating with the patcher my laptop went haywire It started opening up random IE windows slow speed etc etc I did a whole memory scan and a malware adware spyware scan There were several viruses and whatnot but Login screen and BEFORE Screen 7 Windows Black logo/loading! AFTER what is important are the files SVC exe and exe you'll find it why later on The anti-virus said that it had fixed deleted everything So I restarted my laptop hoping that I'd get it up and running in safe mode for any further scans Unfortunately when I restarted it after the windows loading screen which is right before login screen a black screen appeared With nothing at all Not even a cursor BLACK JUST BLACK with NO keyboard access mouse access But that's expected since it's BEFORE the login screen It's the same with normal boot boot that does that quot last best used option quot or whatever safe mode with networking etc etc All the same Black screen Good thing I had Black Screen BEFORE Login screen and AFTER Windows 7 logo/loading! WIN XP on my other hard drive So I booted up into WIN XP where I'm posting this from and did a FULL NOT QUICK system scan to find the SAME Viruses YET AGAIN SVC exe and exe along with some other minor tracking cookies and what-not Win XP on second drive is also having a few problems like IE shutting down every second using firefox now Think this is a whole system prob But why Didn't the antivirus-es fix it I say quot es quot because I used SuperAntiSpyware Norton NOD Malware Bytes and AVG I've tried the system recovery thing F thing on boot screen NOT ON LOGIN SCREEN Remember I can't reach that but that doesn't work either So any suggestions Btw The windows PRO bit that's corrupted not starting is on C and Win XP is on D Attached is a log of my most recent scans Thanks in advance
Hi your problem can best be addressed in the security section of the forum
I am not sure what's wrong, but I have uninstall nvidia drivers that gave me problems ie. 257.21, 196.21....etc. I am currently using 195.62. I am certain that it was a VGA driver problem, because it never happened again, till I decided to remove windows internet explorer and it did the black screen thing again. It restarts and instead of showing windows splash screen it shows a black screen. When I am at the black screen I can't do anything, I will have manually restart and when it boots up the second time it will load windows. It's ____ me off. I hope someone can help me here, and I appreciate it. Atm I am gonna reinstall IE 8 and let's hope for the best.
PS. I just bought this new HDD WDVELOCIRAPTOR 300GB. So it's brand new. Don't know what's going on.
Hmmm! Been having the same problem myself with 7 ultimate 64 bit. It only happens on a "restart". Cold boot works OK.
I just hit my reset button, get message to do startup repair or start windows normally.
Select the "normal" and all seems to work OK???????
I'd be interested if you can find a resolution to this issue. I gave up on it!!!
For the past several months I have been having problems with my HP desktop computer. When my system reboots I sometimes get a black screen with nothing on it or it gets stuck on the windows logo or I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.
The blue screen tends to happen with the computer goes into hibernation. So I changed my settings to that it doesn't happen but I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.
I have checked for malware, viruses you name it... nothing.
Windows 7 SP1
Intel core i7 930 @2.80GHz
9.00 GB RAM
Kaspersky Internet Security 2013
If you need further info please let me know. ;)
ps I had wonderful support several years ago regarding my laptop.. thank you once again :)
I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.
The best way to do this is to simply turn it off; it will also save on the electricty bills too.
When I am not using my machine, I turn it off, because here in South Australia we have the second highest electricity charges in the world.
I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.
Can you tell us what the blue screen says; usually this is due to a recent hardware or software change; however, in your instance it might be the Hibernation feature that is malfunctioning.
Post back with the information about the blue screen, please.
---Wow this is frustrating I just got done fixing two other computers- one was helping someone else fix their computer because they were seeking someone with basic expertise and here I am seeking someone with higher knowledge to help me out no screen screen, Windows logon bootup black Vista thanks in advance to all who contribute --- HP Media Windows Vista black screen, no bootup logon screen Center M FWindows Vista bit GB RAM NVIDIA graphics card and plenty of HD spaceF hardware diagnastics A-OK Suddenly this computer decided Windows Vista black screen, no bootup logon screen to malfunction without installing anything new or updates prior to its quot crashing quot I'm pretty wary to spyware and virus of the like so I am careful to what is installed and opened on this computer But for all I know when I was out of the house someone could have accessed the the machine infecting it with something I noticed before I left the house that it took a ridiculously long time to empty out the recycle bin has anyone else had this problem in vista I know there were a lot of high res pictures in there so I'm guessing quite a few gigs of deletion but after an hour it hadn't even progressed It said minutes and appeared to be frozen but was still moving I restarted the computer and tried the same thing-- exact same result lt --- this is the only hint I have as to what happened because before this everything was fine Anyway I got home and turned on the computer after someone turned it off and it just booted up the HP screen and then went to the windows logo loading page except there was no windows logo It displayed the loading bar and moving across the box at the bottom but just with no windows vista logo Then came the blue screen with the moveable mouse pointer I waited hours the mouse pointer still could be moved but the screen was frozen on the light blue hue right before the welcome screen or logon screen I retried this several times with this same result Even CTRL ALT DEL does not work Even more interesting I tried booting in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Command Prompt both with the same result of black screen with mouse pointer and the text quot Safe Mode quot in all for corners No progression after an hour of waiting Booting windows in quot last known good configuration quot didn't work either There was also a quot repair quot function that precipitated the same results as well The F Recovery Console at the HP boot screen did not work no matter how rhythmic my F pushes were-- not sure why I couldn't recover this system on the recovery partition since HP doesn't send you recovery CDs anymore Lastly I made a Hiren Boot CD followed with my own Windows Vista installer boot CD They both had the same result when booting straight from the cdrom error message on a black screen quot The System memory manager EMM EXE has detected an error caused by a fault in one of the device drivers or programs loaded in the system Due to this fault the system is probably in an unstable state and you are therefore recommended to reboot the computer immediately If the problem persists then try to isolate which program is at fault if you have loaded several then load them one at a atime until the fault appears then contact tech support department for that program Advanced technical information Exception Invalid Opcode DS CB etc etc let me know if you need all the alphanumeric encoding quot When I don't boot straight from the cdrom it freezes and says this quot FD mb System Type- Starting Caldera DR-DOSEMM Copyright etc etc etc lt ---- blinking cursor quot I don't think I'm leaving out much of all but any other inquiries let me know I find this problem extremely odd yet annoying I don't know what else to do this computer is barely a year old Tech support wants or something like for days on one issue even for a recovery cd they want Wow HP Anyways thanks in advance and cheers Nowachi
It may be that someone didn't turn off the PC rather that it experienced a damaging event and shut down.Suggest you check the RAM - remove and reseat and try rebooting. If not successful your mother board may be damaged - nasty thought. There is also this site which may be relevant.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831515If you can get your PC going suggest you check Event Viewer. Then restore files from the recycle bin and then use SHIFT/DELETE to get rid of them, delete a small file and see if emptying the recycle bin works OKPaulhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/233390/windows-vista-black-screen-no-bootup-logon-screen/
Watching a video in Windows Media Player...I wanted to get a screen of a part of the video. So I press PrintScreen...and travel over the MSPaint. Hit paste..and lo and behold...the screen is there...except the video is still playing! LOL
I tried to pause the video..then save. But when I reopen, where the video should be it is black. Is there a way to make screen grabs of videos in WMP? Thanks
I think this question has been kicked around before, I just don't remember what the answer was or how to query the search base here for it.
I'm going to move this to the All other Software forum, since it is really a Windows Media Player, not an XP question; I will edit the topic also.
Perhaps one of the denizens there will recall this one.
Here's one I remember: try IrfanView, it worked when I tested it.
More suggestions here:
Whenever the Windows loadscreen load Black after - it fixes Windows screen Nothing w/cursor screen passes the screen goes black and I can move a cursor around the screen I have had this happen before and fixed it with bootrec exe but I can't seem to get that to work this time Startup repair says it cannot help - Safe mode Black screen w/cursor after Windows load screen - Nothing fixes it has the exact same Black screen w/cursor after Windows load screen - Nothing fixes it black screen problem I have done chkdsk and sfc scannow - Didn't fix it When I Black screen w/cursor after Windows load screen - Nothing fixes it boot into Kaspersky Rescue from a USB drive it mentions that I need to shut down windows properly before continuing I would like to do this but I can't I have tried changing the active partition on information in some of these other threads - It didn't seem to work All disks are healthy according to the DISKPART and Partition Wizard I have done the HP hardware diagnostic scans and everything comes up fine I see that a lot of the advice on the threads is to do a fresh install - Is it really broken beyond repair at this point Does anyone have any other ways I can try and fix this problem
Hello saturnn and welcome to Seven Forums.
One of the Forum experts prepared this troubleshooting guide for Windows 7 failure to boot issues. Even though you've tried several of the suggested fixes I'd still go through the tutorial and try the steps in the order listed.
Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot
Last night I downloaded a to boots screen splash Computer Windows black screen after file from a Torrent site - Blackberry stuff I'm pretty sure most or Computer boots to black screen after Windows splash screen all was freeware stuff I just noticed that that file has been removed Kinda unfortunately because I did leave a comment on what happened to me and I asked if anyone else had the same issue I'm guessing maybe they did because it is gone now I ran my AVG scan on it before opening it It didn't find anything so I ran the executable It locked up at one point after I started getting virus warnings from some new program I did not write down what any of it was - I had to do a hard shutdown When it came up to my choices window i e choose Safe Mode Last Know etc I was unable to make any selections with my keyboard so it continued to boot Windows normally The XP splash screen comes on and then the screen turns black with nothing further happening I can do a hard reboot but I can't get into Safe Mode because the keyboard isn't working and normal windows isn't working either Got any suggestions Do I have some serious funk Did some piece of hardware decide to stop functioning properly power supply I have been Googling this issue without any success Sometimes it feels like you are the only one to ever have a particular issue This happened very late last night and now I am at work so I'm not able to touch it for the next hours or so The only two things that I can do right now is go into the BIOS settings or watch it go into Windows and then get the black screen I have not tried booting with any CDs or floppy disks yet I need a solution please Has anyone else experienced this exact same issuehttp://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/computer-boots-to-black-screen-after-windows-splash-screen-300933.html

Ok 116 error is caused by your Graphics card.
First thing to do is update your drivers from the NVIDIA website.
If BSODs continue Try HDD tests,
download gpu-z to check if your card is getting too hot, also is there lots of dust in the card?
Do you overclock your video card?
Hello After doing a Windows update my computer gave a Windows looking message that my hard drive was going bad and to Safe Mode Windows 7 NO screen, black screen then splash back up my data I was able to save my user files Then the pc crashed with a BSOD I disabled restart after crash Found the error was x B having to do with a corrupt bootcat cache file Could not Windows 7 splash screen, then black screen NO Safe Mode boot up windows except for semi windows with my windows disk and Windows 7 splash screen, then black screen NO Safe Mode Chose Repair in Recovery console however it told Windows 7 splash screen, then black screen NO Safe Mode me nothing could be repaired Through an option to quot find a file quot under the Recovery option I managed to copy a GOOD copy of the bootcat cache file and I appropriately placed it in E Windows system codeintegrity it was ONLY seeing C as a system partition my drive letters were all reassigned Sorry this is confusing and a lot of info Bottom line is my hard drive is not bad I see windows on it and all my files and the BIOS recognizes the drive It is firmly connected and NOT hot to the touch From a command prompt I did a bootrec exe fixmbr and also fixboot as the pc was not properly booting up it still would not boot properly I am totally unable to go to safe mode hitting F No matter what I do I get a Windows Splash screen and then my screen goes to a Black Screen with a White arrow cursor the hard drive appears to be trying to work the light flickers but it just hangs at the black screen Again it refuses to allow me to boot to safe mode It tries to load the Windows System recovery screen ONLY when I try to boot to the Windows CD I cannot repair it I don't have an image because it would not allow me to make one before it crashed It will NOT repair it cannot validate any system restore points and tells me it cannot restore on any of them I am unable to boot to safemode at all with or without the Win CD in my drive How can I recover from this I am percent certain my hard drive is NOT bad Something is corrupted and Windows won't load I've built many pc's and worked as desktop support hardware tech Splash screen then black screen and stays at a white arrow with the hard drive light flickering on and off
sorry for bumping. it seems people get a lot of responses to their questions and i was hoping to get the same kind of response.
Bottom line is, my computer tries to load Windows (7) with the splash screen, then goes to a black screen with an arrow and stays there.
I am unable to boot to safe mode.
I am unable to do a recovery from booting from the Windows 7 Install CD
Today i noticed that after my windows 7 logon screen i get a black screen with only my mouse pointer on it. i already tried restoring to a day before the problem but same thing happens. what can i do to fix it? seems to me that the problem started after i installed hotspot-shield i guess it cameout with some driver installer but i dont know which ones. help please.
I have had some trojans making my computer crazy for a about a week I thought I got rid of them with my antivirus but last night after I restarted my computer windows started up fine with the welcome screen. Then it just goes to a black screen some of the times when it started it would open the file explorer and I can still navigate every where. I tried the startup repair and restored it back to two different restore points but it didn't do anything. I can open the task manager with ctrl+alt+del and don't see anything running that should not be running. I have also run scan disk and a registry scan, has anyone had this problem before and is there a way to fix it with out having to format. Thanks in advance
what are you running
check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them
check you cleared the infections follow this

Hi, My screen is flickering and then eventually just goes completely black after a certain point when opening the lid of the laptop. It has to be at basically a 90 degree angle to the keyboard to function correct. Beyond that it begins the flickering.I've seen comments saying this common and due to ribbon cables. However I only bought my laptop at the beginning of the year and do not wish to fix this myself as I assume it's covered by warranty. How do I go about getting my laptop repaired?
System Specs are as follows:
System Model Inspiron 7559
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2601 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Mode UEFI
Ram - 8GB
Graphics Card - GeForce GTX 960mThanks,Steven
Start with a call to Dell support - the technician will troubleshoot with you and then if a warranty repair is needed, will initiate the process.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19987306
I've had this happened once or twice since I've had the computer, but so far today..world record, it's happened 3 times in one day. Which concerns me. Alot of the time, it happens when the computer is coming back out of sleep mode. The screen will flash black for literally half a second, and the taskbar at the bottom goes back to default settings. (Nothing else does.) And generally nothing will work In the taskbar when this happens. Example, my wireless will show that its active on my taskbar before it flashes, then it shows up with x over it after the flash happens. And I cannot go back and change it manually. I have to reboot. When I do reboot, it is back to normal.
Is there anyone who might have any idea what causes this to happen, or what I can do to remedy it? Thank you!

I would think that your first priority, assuming that your data is safe, is to obtain a means of reinstalling/repairing XP. I mean, that would be my first priority if I intended to run a system with XP on it and I did not believe that the system would run perfectly until I decided to retire/sell/junk it.
So my first suggestion would have been...contact Dell and inquire about recovery/restore CDs for your system.
As for your apparent option of taking it to a shop...that won't resolve the fact that you have no install disks of any type.
I've not ever seen an XP sticker that doesn't indicate which flavor of the O/S is installed.
