Microsoft Office 2013- Unable to open files from Mapped Network Drive

Q: Microsoft Office 2013- Unable to open files from Mapped Network Drive

Hello Community,

I'm having an issue here, and reading through threads and forum posts - i'm getting nowhere.

I get no error messages when trying to open a file from a mapped drive.

I have a user onsite unable to open any Mircosoft Office 2013 files from any of his mapped network drives. If he takes the files, copies them locally to his laptop, then open perfectly fine. However, if i try to open a office file from their mapped drive, it just opens up a blank document.

--I've done the changing folder name of the Microsoft folder within %AppData%, still no luck.
--I've tried repairing Microsoft Office, still no luck.

I don't want to uninstall office, then re-install as i will have to drop the computer off our domain (Group Policy for some reason, blocks office.) *I'd prefer this to be the final option.

Surely there must be a fix around? Much thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Greetings,

I'm a former IT Systems Technician, and my girlfriend is a work-from-home writer. I've recently migrated her PC's original processor and ram from an HP motherboard to an ASRock board, linking the original WD Caviar Blue 1TB drive to the board as a secondary drive to collect documents and storage from, while running Windows 8.1 (up to date) on a Seagate Barracuda 250GB for the main OS and programs drive.

With those specs out there in the open, now it's time to get to the root of the problem.

As a work-from-home writer, my girlfriend depends on the ability to save her documents to Microsoft's OneDrive and upload them to her publisher, but with this error showing up, she cannot get them to save. I have never seen such a message in my many years of IT service, and I'm completely baffled.

I am the administrator... So now I turn to you guys for help.

I have three computers networked together via a Linksys Wireless Router. One Dell running XP Pro, and two HP laptops (wireless) one running Vista Ultimate x64 and the other running Vista Home Premium x32. I have all issues resolved (that I've discovered so far anyway) except one. There is a shared external hard drive conneced via USB to the XP, which I have mapped to both Vistas. I can see it when I open 'My Computer' but when I click on it I get an error that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to view the item." The odd thing about it is that I can access the contents of the drive by right-clicking on it and choosing either 'explore' or 'open.' I can access drives mapped from the Vista(s) to the XP on the XP just fine, just not the other way around. Any ideas?

It used to be that double clicking on an Office file would open the file. Now, with Office 2013 a double click on a file is not opening the file, it is just opening the related Office program (Word or Excel, for instance). How do I get the file I'm double clicking to open with the Office program?

Thanks.

I have several users in my organization that is starting to Mapped Cannot a Open Drive on Files experience issues opening files on drives they have mapped on their computers This is happening with multiple file types including Word and Excel files Cannot Open Files on a Mapped Drive and PDF files It also isn't every file just select files There is no rhyme or reason to the files and to make sure the users have security permissions to open the files Also the issue seems to be spreading The users can't open files now that they were able to open before When the user tries to open the file they will receive the error message quot 'Mapped Drive Letter File' cannot be found Check your spelling or try a different path quot for Microsoft Products or quot There was an error opening this document This file cannot be found quot for PDF documents If the user goes directly to the shared folder through the network path ie server folder folder they can open the same exact files with no issues nbsp I have tried numerous resolutions to try and fix this issue including Going through the registry and deleting any instances of the mapped drive or previously mapped drives with that name Making sure the security permissions were correct Disabling quot Enable Protected Mode quot in Adobe Reader and Disabling Protected View in Microsoft Office Putting the settings for our WINS server back in the network settings We moved everything to DNS recently and had thought that there was an issue with name resolution for the mapped drives Recreated the users profiles on their computers thinking it may be a profile issue I did try the users logins on a different computer and we were able to open the documents nbsp If it was just the one user I would say that it the issue with that computer but the problem is happening to several users on different computers to different files and as I stated above they users can't open files that the could open before through the mapped drive Any ideas of what the issue may be and a possible resolution

I haven't had Microsoft Office 2013 a week now and I already am having problems with opening documents that are in Microsoft Word's native format (docx). The problem lies within Windows and not word it seems. While the icon for docx files show the Word 2013 icon, it refuses to open with Microsoft Word 2013. Windows tells me that it does not know how to open docx files. It worked flawlessly since its install last Wednesday downloaded right from Office.com with the user name that was provided to me by KVCC, the college I attend. Office 2013 licenses are provided to all students as of 2016. Not even a week later, it is messing up. Word can still open .doc & .odt files but not docx files. There are a number of results on the internet where a problem with Office 2013 not being able to open docx files, but none are the problem I face, windows not knowing how to open it.

Well for what it is worth Pen they can do some extraordinary things with malware these days so as long as the security is up to scratch you should be ok - to a point because none are 100% foolproof.

I've recently upgraded my computer and windows 7 to 64-bit and I just noticed that I can't search my documents on my network drive.  I've read the various posts about this on the net and the solution is either to live without it or turn on offline files.  I turned on offline files and told windows to rebuild the index and waited for it to complete and it's still not working.  I see in the indexing options control panel applet that "offline files" is in the "included locations" column.  Any ideas?

A:indexing mapped network drive w/ offline files not working

If you go to Control Panel>Indexing options, click on the Advanced button. There should be tabs for Index Settings, File Types and Add UNC Location. Add the path to the mapped network drive. Note: Some versions of Windows 7 don't seem to have this tab, for some reason.

Microsoft Outlook 2013 (365) continues to crash every 2 months on my laptop. I have had 3 sessions with Microsoft support online since November. They are unable to fix the problem so it won't continue to reoccur. They have reinstalled it on 3 occasions and within 2 months, Outlook is unresponsive. Cannot receive/send any email. All my email I have to get on my iPhone using pop secure server from GoDaddy redirect. It not GoDaddy cause I can see the email if I go to GoDaddy email and they say it is an Outlook issue with Microsoft.....

There is one computer in our peer-to-peer Windows network that will not open MS Office files that are stored on shared network drives on other computers. PDFs open just fine, but not MS Office docs. It displays a message that the file could not be found even though I can see and double-click the file. I can right-click and copy a networked file, paste it anywhere on the the local computer and from there it opens fine. It is a Dell Vostro, running Windows 7 (Home Edition). There is another one identical to it that works just fine on the network. I am using MS Office 2007 and MS Office 2003 on the this machine. Unable to select Microsoft Photos app for .svg file association when using the Open With context menu

So I tried installing ownership context menu to actually access the Microsoft Photos app, which pointed to the directory, C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\

But there is no exe in that folder, and it seems when checking task manager and opening file location of the Microsoft Photos app when it's open, it points to a created folder inside the above folder. So it creates an individual folder each time the application is open.

The option isn't under Settings \ System \ Default Apps \ Choose default application by file type

Again, I run into the same problem without being able to select the application when trying to choose based on the .svg extension.

So there is no way of selecting the Microsoft Photos app to associate with .svg

Hello,

A charity is considering upgrading its workstations to Office 2013 from Office 2007.
They have lots of files in the .docx, .xlsx, .xlsm, and .xltm formats that they would need to access on a daily basis.

We have an upgrade on our computer units here in the company, my problem is when users save their 2007 excel files an error pops up, Errors were detected while saving "File Name". Microsoft maybe able to save the file by removing or repairing some features. To make the repairs in new file, click Continue. To cancel saving the file, click Cancel.

By the way, the files were save on the file server and users access them through single roaming profile that we created with full access on their folders.

This may be a result of inadequate security permissions in Windows. ACT! Word Processor" and I close this window and another window pops up and says: "The word processor driver is not running."
What do I do now? Can this be fixed. I changed all the permissions in ACT to allow. Still doesn't work.
Thanks for any help.

Whenever I try to install Microsoft Office 2013, the progress bar reaches full then reverses about half way then I get an error saying "Microsoft setup bootstrapper has stopped working". I have already tried clean booting, safe mode, turning off AV, using repair kit. I tried installing Microsoft .NET framework but it said my OS already comes with it, however I cannot find it in Programs and Features.

A:install of Microsoft Office 2013 Pro Plus

Update on this topic, talked to Microsoft support they tell me this is normal to be this size and also due to my system settings and specs.

Since i installed it again, was 57 updates, although i can not see how big each update is now, do not think i downloaded 3GB of updates unless they expanded during installation.

Said something else about language packs possibly being cause, do not see any of those in the updates. When i reinstalled it i usually do not uncheck anything not to be installed, just all the defaults.

Revo uninstaller
shows it at 1279.80MB but again not including updates and service pack.

I have Microsoft Office 2013 Standard Edition.
I have done custom install i.e Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Shared Tools & Other Tools only.

Why updates are downloaded/installed for all not installed office features too OneNote, OfficeProject, Outlook, OneDrive for Business, etc...?

Is there any other way I can install only needed features mentioned above with Office 2013 Standard install package so that updates for not installed office features are not downloaded/installed?

Not as far as I know, that's one of the benefits of Office, you get all the Updates.

Hey there!

When i tried to install Microsoft Office 2013 i get a message saying "This 64bit product may not be installed with Microsoft Office Click-To-Run" so i went and uninstalled ALL previous versions of Microsoft Office and tried again, Again i was still prompted with this message, any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

A:Cant Install Microsoft Office 2013

The "Click to Run" only works for the 32 bit version as far as I know. If you are only using Office 2013 for home or small business use Microsoft recommend that the 32 bit version be installed, as there are actually more features available on the 32 bit version. Of course the 32 bit version works perfectly on Windows 7 x64. I use the 32 bit office 2013 Pro on my Windows 7 x64.
If you wish to install the 64 bit version, load the Office DVD & then Open to explore the files & if you check these you will find the 64 bit version, then double click on that & it will install the 64 bit version.

Hi guys,

A friend of mine showed me her laptop today and she showed me something that i find very weird. Her Microsoft Office 2013 has an FPS counter on the upper right side and lower right side of the window pane! I have no idea where did this come from and if it is even possible to remove it. She's greatly annoyed by it and I got very curios about this thats why I am posting it here. Btw, here's a screenshot of it.

As usual, any suggestion would be appreciated highly. Thanks!

Hi,

Could some explain to me the upgrade options for somebody who already owns Office 2010. I found a page where you can upgrade for free and choose between a one year Office 365 subscription or the program itself, could you explain that to me please.
https://www7.downloadoffice2010.micr...&culture=en-US

Also, what features do I miss out on if I don't pay for a subscription? Ans if I upgrade will the Office 2010 installations on my XP machines still work? (Office 2013 no longer supports XP or Vista) If I do upgrade would these installations cease to be valid?

Sorry for all the questions but I find the new version.upgrade/license thing slightly confusing.

Thanks.

I have Microsoft Office 2013 I think I have deleted something I shouldn't have as Microsoft Office 2013 is not displaying very well all the things you click on to are missing. What have done wrong or deleted and do I get it back or restore?

A:Microsoft Office 2013 not displaying very well

Hi Darksky40, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You could try a System Restore to go back to a point before you deleted whatever it was that caused the current problem.

You could try an Office Repair. To do that open Control Panel, select Programs & Features, then scroll down to Microsoft Office, right click on it & select Change & this will provide a couple of Repair options.

If none of the above work you will have to reinstall Office.

hello,

I installed Microsoft Office from the preinstallation and the key that was given to me when I purchased the computer.

After this installation, were present only the following applications:
Excel 2013, One Note 2013, PowerPoint 2013, Word 2013.

Publisher was therefore absent.
So I downloaded. Now I can not find it in applications. I do not see how I could "run".

I can not find it in the uninstall list of programs ccleaner.
But I am still a line "microsoft office home and studying."

During installation, I have had a window informing me that publisher was installed.
This has happened to me with another software I can not remember the name.

I absolutely need to "publisher" who have difficulty with implementation "scribus", including implementation of table totally "Border", cover and rim.

Thank you for helping me,
Emile Gicquel

A:Microsoft Office 2013 will not install

Hi Willm,

welcome to Eight Forums! Good to have you aboard.

About your problem. It is not a problem related to you adding an extra SSD and moving a library. That stuff doesn't influence the Office installation.

Before I can give you advice I need more information. Please provide the following info:
Is it a plain Office pack or the Click-To-Run Office pack?Do you try installing it from a DVD disc or from a standalone executable?Where did you buy the licence? What kind of virusprotection are you using? (i.e. Windows Defender, McAfee, Norton etc.)

I just can't install Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 which I downloaded from it's official web site.
I'm using Windows 8.1 64 bit right here.
I can install Microsoft Office 365 with no problem (but I've uninstalled it for some reasons) but this one is just too much...

I can run the installer, but when it is in installing process, then one of these things happen :
1. Says "The file powerpoint.en-us\PowerPointMUI.msi could not be found
But I can see in that folder that that msi file is really exist.
2. Says "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 encountered an error during setup,
3. Crashes.

I've tried using clean booting, or compatibility troubleshooting like trying it on Vista or Win 7, but really nothing works.
Please help me, I'm losing my mind here, really need this thing ASAP...
Thank you.

I am trying to store some information to a document on Word Microsoft Office 2013 and I have been saving most of the information I managed to do most until started saying Word(Not Responding) what is happening and how can I get this sorted? I am trying to save to a USB Flash drive but that is not working sometimes or the USB is faulty.

Check this MS website for a possible solution to your problem. I notice from your System Specs that you only have 1 gb of RAM, so that may be adding to problems if you are trying to multiple operations at the one time.

For years I have used Microsoft Office but never used the Outlook part for emails. With Live Mail on its way out I thought that I would try it out. I have set up my accounts and can send and receive with no problems and it is slowly populating all the various Received/Sent/Deleted sections.
I have loads of contacts in the Contacts section but what I have yet to figure out is how to get the To: box to autocomplete the email address as I start to type in the recipients name. I am finding that I have to look up the email address and get that inserted. I am sure that there must be an auto complete but I have yet to find it.
All suggestions gratefully received.

As far as I'm aware, there is no auto complete function on Outlook. Then again, I might be totally wrong. Terribly sorry that I can't be much more help.

Once you hit exit a popup saying "Microsoft Bootstrapper has stopped working" comes up. I have no problem installing Office 2010. Any way to fix it? Using the same copy I can install it in Windows 8(same computer, dualboot) and my other Windows 7 HP desktop.

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my Microsoft Office 2013. My licence has expired and I have time until the 14 of July to fix the problem.
I saw there is an Office 2016 coming out so I don't really want to buy a new licence.. is there any way to re-activate my 2013 version in the meantime?
I know there are some software that let you activate Office, but I honestly don't know if I can trust them and how to use them..

Thank you for your help!!

Hello, I installed Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus about a month ago. I thought I made a copy of all of its contents that were in a file folder: Word, Excel, OneNote, etc. Unfortunately someone jumped on my computer and did something with this file folder. I cannot find the file folder of shortcuts on my PC. I just need to locate the file folder in my C drive so I can make another shortcut folder on my desktop. I don't think they're missing or deleted from my system as it still pulls up Word when I click on a document. I imagine that someone deleted the file folder on my desktop for some reason and I may need to locate each individual program to get back that folder. I tried copying the Microsoft Office folder from my C drive as well as Microsoft Office 2015 but no dice. Any help is much appreciated and thank you in advance.

A:My Microsoft Office 2013 Has Disappeared From My Desktop

Check the Recycle Bin. If they were deleted they should be in there and you can restore from the Recycle Bin.

Or if this is recent, run System Restore using an available restore point that is BEFORE they did whatever they did. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

System restore will not delete any user data or e-mail.

You need to purchase Office 2013 Pro
When you do it will ask you if you want to upgrade
and of course you pick this option

Once it finishes you will be upgraded to office 2013

I've recently encountered problems with Word and Excel programs. Windows 8.1 operating system. For some reason the program will open and then give an error message that the program stopped working. It gives an option to repair but that does not work. Repairing from the control panel does not work and gives another error message to go online to find a solution. I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. Downloaded the program to reinstall but continue to get the same errors. Does anyone have a similar problem... or solution?

Hey all,

When I try to run any of the Microsoft Office 2013 programs, they start up, give the menu to create a new document, then suddenly the window flashes and zooms off stage left before you can choose an option. Same thing happens when opening an already existing document... there is no icon in the menu at the bottom to show that the programs are still running, so it's as if the programs shut down, but there is no error message or anything. My wife is getting frustrated - she's a school teacher and needs to create and edit documents for her class - please help!

I have a qualifying copy of Office 2010 Home and Small Business.

Recently I just claimed the offer. But how about the old copy? Will it be invalidated instantly if I install the 2013 version? I'm not sure if I will like my 2013, so would like the ability to go back to 2010 if possible.

A:Microsoft Office 2010 to 2013 upgrade offer.

I'd be a bit wary of Office 2013. I read that Microsoft has changed the licencing so that Office 2013 is licensed for a single PC only and that the license may never be transferred. Which means if you upgrade or buy a new computer, you need to buy Office again!

Hi

I have a USB drive that until yesterday was fine.

Now some files won't open although I can still see all the files.

If I try to copy one of the files to another location I get a Data Error: cycle redundancy check.

If I try to open an excel file I get an error saying that the file may be read only, or you may be trying to access a read only location or the server the document is stored on is not responding.

Is there a way I can repair these files. To be honest I only need to get the vba which is stored the files, then I can recreate new files.

It is not just the excel files it is all different file types, the strange thing is that some of the files do open....

Cheers

Kev

A:Microsoft Office 2013 Install unsuccessful, error 1603

Looking through the log file you have posted it appears the setup is failing because of a permission issue.

Setup.exe is being run from the G:\ drive.

You need to copy the Setup file to the C:\ drive before attempting to run it.
