Preferred Solution: windows installer preparing to install pop ups

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have this dialog box coming up all the time............
It just sits there ....doesn't do a thing.............unless I cancel it.

I think the problem came when I wanted to uninstall Microsoft Home & student 2010.
I finally did this & have gone back to a system restore point but still have this Installer box coming up.
It is getting annoying & time consuming.
I have googled it & found a multitude of answers....some i tried.....others seemd to complicated.
I am a novice at this.

Anyone with the patience to help me please?????

A:Windows Installer ...Preparing to Install.....

It seems as if you have done a poor un-installation of Office. Only ever un-install programs using the Add/Remove function in Control Panel.

Try reinstalling the Office package, restart, un-install from add/remove, restart then open Internet Explorer.

This should fix your problem.

If not post back.

OK guys....This is driving me nuts. It never used to happen but now it does. Whenever I try to open Microsoft word or excel, or even when I run disk cleanup This box comes up entitled Windows Installer and the message inside of it says "Preparingt to Install"....This goes away after about 30 -45 seconds and the the stuff opens up....But it's a pain in the butt....I think it also does this for some other stuff too.

I haven't made any changes to the computer that I can remeber except running some anti-virus database updates.

I'm not too swift with computers and I can live with this if I have but DO I HAVE TO????

-----------Help please.....Kaara Larson

"windows installer preparing to install..." message keeps popping up every few seconds on my dell desktop with xp media center edition sp3. I thought it might be malware so I ran malwarebytes antimalware and found nothing. I read somewhere that I should install and run the windows installer cleaner so I tried this but it won't let me install the cleaner. It gives a message saying that another program is installing and this needs to finish first. I read up on not being able to run the windows install cleaner and tried to end one of the two msexec processes from the task manager. this was a bad idea as it caused me to have another message about spss 15 trying to install every couple of seconds in addition to the windows installer. This is really frustrating. Unfortunately, I have a dissertation to write. Can anyone help me out? Thanks

A:"Windows Installer - Preparing to install" Error Message

Wow. This is one of the problems that i had when using anything involving windows office. I use a beta copy of MS Photdraw from '99 i believe. when you installed an office prog or another prog that used the windows installer there was an option to 'install on first use' I believe that is where the problem is. I reinstalled the program in question, with full install and Ive yet to see the problem again. I could be wrong on your situation, thought id throw in my $.02

After executing a system restore due to a problem with installing Adobe Creative Suite 3, I reinstalled said suite successfully. Since then "Windows Installer - Preparing to Install..." appears and seems to cycle itself at least two or three times , every time I launch "Control Panel", "My Computer", "Network Connections", "Printers and Faxes", "Internet Explorer", open any windows folder, in other words, anything that has anything to do with Microsoft apps and services.

This does not happen when I launch anything non-Microsoft, i.e., Open Office, any Adobe CS3 app, Skype, etc.

I do not run any Norton anything (never been installed), I do run AVG free anti-virus and Zone Alarm free edition.

Computer Specs:
AMD Athlon XP processor 1700+
1.47 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Windows Explorer, preparing to install

Hi vnaff and welcome to TSF !

Have you added some hardware recently, plugged some new usb device, installed some new program ?

Repeatedly press F8 while the computer starts and choose safe mode in the menu that will appear. Tell us if it also happens in safe mode.

I reinstalled Office 2010 Pro Plus 2010. Now, if I attempt to launch the Word, I get "Preparing to install . . .", then "Please wait while Windows configures Office Pro Plus 2010". After it is done a message indicates rebooting is required. After rebooting, the same thing repeats. I did it in Safe mode as was suggested but to no avail. I did repair install but was no cure.
Any suggestion is appreciated.

A:Preparing to install then Please wait while Windows configure Office..

You installed Office 2010 along with Office 2010 pro? That wasn't a very good idea. You can only have a single office program of any specific type at one time installed on your computer. It is like installing firefox internet browser twice, but with more damage. Office integrates more completely into your computer and can cause more problems if not done right.

Your best bet is uninstalling all of it and attempting to install it again. Use Revo Uninstaller Free in advanced mode (it will be a pop up in Revo after you choose uninstall) and remove all traces (may need to delete extra files left over, which will be another popup). If you cannot uninstall it for any reason in Revo, try control panel uninstall programs (the normal method). If that doesn't work, download Ccleaner (you might do this in addition anyway) and run the registry scanner. Only delete registry items relating to Microsoft office. Any other registry items are fine to leave alone (this program has the potential to remove something you might not want removed if used incorrectly).

After that, Run this tool: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker multiple times if errors are found. Restart, and attempt a windows update (make sure everything is updated). Then try to install ONE (1) Office suite program. If it fails, run this: Repair Install and try again.

If you are unable to install MS office for whatever reason, contact Microsoft either to try to fix it or for permission to install office again (if the key you bought isn't being accepted a second time)

A:Preparing laptop for Windows 7 install - video drivers?

hi mate,

i was in the exact same position as you are are lol. I have a vaio though. It has 4 gig ram, the same card as yours. I had windows vista 32 bit too. So i ended up installing windows 7 64 bit on a separate partition and so far no problems!! I also used to use the mobility modder in vista but in windows 7 it hasnt worked for me yet. However in their forums some people report success with those drivers in win7 so i must be doing something wrong. But i dont think there is the need for modifiying the drivers just yet because the ones that install automatically when u install win7 are relitively new as well.

So i would suggest u go for win7 64 bit if u can, but make sure u have the other drivers available for your ACER, like motherboard, audio, etc.. Should be available on their website..

hope this helps

So after I did a repair install of XP for a previous problem I went to Windows Update. It said I needed to install Windows Installer 3.1 to continue. Instead of saying it was done, it said it was unable to install. Then I downloaded the file manually and went to install. It said something about not having permissions, or access denied. I thought it was because my system restore was screwed up, but that's now fixed, so I don't know what the problem is now.

Go to Control Panel | Programs and Features and uninstall Silverlight entirely, then go to microsoft and download the silverlight package and install it. I have had to do this a few times already, and it is annoying.

Hi

Ever since I upgraded to the XP Service Pack 2, I've had nothing but problems. The most annoying of which being Windows Installer/InstallShield won't install anything. It appears like it will install, then stops when it says 'Configuring Windows Installer', then I get this message '1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime'

I have checked out the support at the InstallShield website. They address the issue on the site, but none of the solutions help.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any possible solutions.

Thanks in advance.

I recently purchased software that requires that various Microsoft components be installed, including Microsoft Installer (MSI) version 4.5. I have tried to download the MSI 4.5 (WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe file) from Microsoft website but it will not install and leaves me with my current MSI version 3.1. During install of MSI 4.5 I get an "access denied" error, then computer undoes the changes and restarts leaving me with the MSI 3.1.

What would cause my system to not allow for the MSI 4.5 version to replace the 3.1, This is leaving me unable to install my recent software purchase.

I have Windows XP SP3/32 bit.

Ok Ive had this problem for about 2 weeks now.
Hardly anything will install without crashing. Im downloading what should be the correct installers of many things like java, shockwave and a lot more applications and they all crash within the first few stages within the installer and I get the error report thing. Same with AIM... It messes up 90% of the time I open it but it managed to install. MSN wont install either.
BUT ironicly. Every single VST and VSTi (theyre just plugins for music creation software... .ddls) Ive installed work - same with all my music apps.

One thing I tried was reinstalling windows installer. No luck - it did install but everything still messes up.

Im running XP SP2 on this machine simply because everything should work on it. Its the Professional 2002 version. I have 2GB of ram and a Q6600 quad core(this may be causing the problem, I dunno)

Thanks

After booting up and loading the desktop, icons, etc., I get a window that says Windows Installer is installing something, then configuring something called "Photogallery". While this is going on, I get another window saying something about Norton not supporting the repair function and to uninstall and reinstall. If I go to Norton, though, there appears to be nothing wrong with it.

Does anyone know what the heck this is about? I've tried a couple different programs to get rid of junk and fix the registry, hoping that would get rid of whatever it was, but it hasn't.

I reinstalled windows XP home edition with SP2 on my laptop and since then, the automatic update promts me to install Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1.
I hit install and after trying to install it, it says it was unsuccesfull....

Do I need to install this update? And if so, HOW?

If I don't, how do I stop it from showing up on the automatic update?

A:Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 Won't Install

Hello,That is an interesting error. If automatic updates refuses to instal the file, you should try instaling it manually. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en this is a link to the windows instaler page. Also, to stop an update showing in your update list, simply expand the update in question by clicking the plus sign and select the check box saying a variation of exclude from future searches.

Alternatively, You do a fresh clean install of a Legitimate Windows 7 first and then you can just purchase a full version of Windows 8.1 from the Microsoft Store and upgrade your Windows 7 to Windows 8.1.

First run a System Scan with Malwarebytes ..
Then run a System Scan ....
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Then Check which application that is causing these errors will be mentioned in the eventlog....

To fix go through your eventlog and read the msiinstaller errors and warnings...

From there you will identify which application is causing the problem....
Also please Post back the Results of your Scans ....

A:How can I stop windows installer at start-up and install Windows Outlook on my comput

Hey, see if windows installer is in your startup entries:

- Open the start menu
- Type "msconfig.exe" in the search bar
- Press enter to open msconfig
- Goto the startup tab
- Look through these entries for "windows installer" or the path to windows installer
- If you find it:
> uncheck the box next to it
> click ok and restart to check
- If not:
> Post back and i'll do some reading into it

Cheers,

Hello,

I have a problem that windows trys to install a missing program named Vongo. How do i remove this auto install at startup. Vongo is not needed on my computer.

A:Windows Installer Problem...keeps Trying To Install Vongo

Do you happen to have an HP computer? Apparently Vongo is preloaded on to some HP laptops. (at least all the references I found mentioned laptops)According to Wikipedia "Vongo is a video on demand service, owned by Liberty Media's Starz Entertainment, parent company of the Starz network, that allows the user to download and view movies for a fixed price per month."A quick search for removal of Vongo took me to cnet.com forums where there are 65 posts about Vongo. Apparently there are a lot of people who are unhappy about this being included on their systems. It seems that it's a bear to get rid of, going through Add/Remove to uninstall doesn't work. Here is the link to the cnet forum, you might find something there that will work for you.http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7587_102-0.htm...78&start=60

I am running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS. In an attempt to install the new iTunes 10 I receive an error that states that windows installer is not installed correctly. Is this a problem with Apple or with Windows?? This is the first time I have had a problem with an installation of any application with Windows 7. I did a complete uninstall of the previous version of iTunes and did so in the correct order per apples recommendation, and am attempting the download from apples recommended site. I have posted the same question in the apple support forum but I always seem to get better help with such fixes the the people here than with apple support. Thanks in advance for any help here.

Greetings Oh wise ones...

I am Running Dell 8300 Dinension/ XP/ SP3/ 512 Mem/ Intel 4/
My Canon printer died, so got a Used, (but known working in good condition) HP Photosmart 2410xi All-in-One
and have not been able to install it in spite of every suggested method by HP. I now notice that the Windows
Installer file is missing from the Services, and it had been there 2 days before this Install effort started.
It appears that all the dependencies required for the Installer are in place and started, but IT is not listed.
I can't figure what went wrong, but any suggestions to recover it will be appreciated. Of course every attempt to
install the printer drives, runs into the missing Windows Installer problem.

Thanks in advance for your usually prompt and learned advice.

Hi,

For the past week I have noticed that when I start Windows Live Messenger, the windows installer box comes up and says installing, then the messenger finally opens.

Now I notice that I can't uninstall or install any new programs, and when I do, windows installer says "The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed."

I'm not in safe mode. I've ran spyware scans and virus scans and nothing has came up.. So, I really have no idea what to do. I read to install something called windows installer cleanup, but I can't install any programs whatsoever..

Help is much appreciated:)

My Windows installation is many years old and gone through many hardware changes software installations and uninstallations and Windows itself has been getting progressively slower buggier and prone to odd crashes and hang ups I decided to try repairing the installation C:\ as install Windows sets C:\ its path own cannot to - 7 installer with my original install disc but found that my DVD drive is no longer functional Having used the official ISO from Microsoft to create a bootable USB for my netbook worked swimmingly Windows 7 installer sets its own path as C:\ - cannot install to C:\ For my desktop not so much When booting from USB on my desktop the Windows installer mounts itself as drive C while detecting my existing Windows installation as being drive D when it is actually and most certainly C I've tried forcing drive paths from within Windows changing boot order switching USB ports all manner of UEFI options pertaining to USB and it always sets the installer as C unable to set the Windows install path to C because C is in use by the installer I'm a bit too paranoid to try repairing Windows for fear of it totally screwing everything up with the forced drive path change and using a drive path other than C for a clean install is at best undesirable Would also prefer not to spend money on a DVD drive that I will in all likelihood use exactly once Motherboard which I'd wager is the culprit is an embarrassingly flashy ASRock P Professional

You don't boot from USB on the desktop.

If you are trying to do a clean install, you shutdown or restart and boot from the USB.

When my friend goes to install any software, he generally sees a message saying it is starting the Windows Installer, then a popup appears (attached) from Windows Installer that offers on option other than OK. Clicking OK just makes the popup go away, the install does not continue. I tried the install as administrator, did not help. I tried the compatibility troubleshooter, but it errors out without giving any info.

I've tried running the Microsoft tool that they offer for repairing Windows Installer, it finds nothing. I've also tried unregistering and registering msiexec.exe, did not help. Also ran regsvr32.exe /s %windir%\system32\msi.dll

Any ideas what I might try to fix this?

Thanks

A:Cannot install any software - Windows installer popup

Version 5, is that right?

I say it's time for an In-Place Install.

Also, check for Sirefef, it interferes with EXEs. It specifically disables EXEs so you cant install any AV programs so it may be interfering with the installer.

Do the programs that are there run? You can do a quick test for Sirefef- Rename your Windows Defender folder to Windows Defender Old. then try the installer again.

If that dont work, then dig out your Install disk, you gotta do an In-Place Install. But try an SFC /Scannow a few times, and then a DISM to rebuild the windows image, sorry, cant remember the command line - Its in the tutorials, I'll find it.

Here it is:

My version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.0 (I know it is not supported by Adobe) installs sufficiently so that I can use it (mostly). However the request for install the program is still in the Windows Installer. So each time I boot, I need to cancel the install of Adobe since it doesn't do anything, even when I let it run to completion.

How do I find and rid myself of the command that tries to install Adobe each time I re-boot the system???

Windows Vista 64 bit, running on an Intel duo-core system with 4GB RAM.

Thanks

Rick

A:Windows Installer tries to install Adobe over and over again at boot up

I had a similar thing when every time I ran a particular program it asked me if I wanted to install it. I straightened things out by using this KB utility. It might work for you too:

Hi and welcome to TSG!

Too bad you haven't had the chance to read the many many threads about staying away from registry cleaners. 2000 errors removed!!! You may have damaged your registry beyond repair.

So I, today, reformatted my PC.

After installing some bare essentials (anti virus and firewall mainly) I then loaded up the website for windows update.

I was prompted to install service pack 3 (after the windows installer update), so I did before anything else. After I restarted, I went to the update site again to do the remaining updates, but after they were downloaded, every install failed.

The same is happening with the Windows Live Installer (as I wish to install windows live messenger). However, I could install Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Media Player 11 with no problems.

Any help would be much, much appreciated. Anything I can do to help with the troubleshooting, just say.

Thank you.

[quick edit: Windows was installed with a service pack 2 era disk. Home edition, too.]

[Edit: After doing the method in this post, it now works.]

I have been getting a Windows Installer box everytime I open Explorer or anything from the Office 2003 suite.

I tried a reg fix that I found on a different post, and also running the Windows File Protection /scannow program. All it did was shorten the time that the box pops up.

Sometimes, not always but sometimes, I get a box saying some components are not installed, would you like to install them now? Then it tries to install them I guess. But nothing happens.

I have read about 20 other posts from people with similar problems, but nothing that seems to be just like my problem. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

I just installed Ms office 03 Pro. Every time I go to open a office program (word, excel, etc... this window pops up saying, (Windows Installer.. preparing to install) I did a full install from the beginning. Any one know why?

A:Ms Office 2003 (preparing to install)

I have found that when you install Office, you are best doing a "custom" install!
Don't select the "typical" option.
So when you do the former, the various programs are all listed for you to make your choices.
As an example if you don't want Access, you click on the small drop down arrow and select "not available".
That way you won't get an application that you don't want!
Likewise, on the more common ones like Word, Excel etc. click the arow and choose "run all from my computer".
The installer thingo often boots up when you may be trying to use a feature that was not installed under "typical".
It's not too late to do it now as by doing the "custom" bit, it will remove/add whatever you want without doing any harm to the already installed applications.

Sorry for starting a new thread for this. It seems unconnected to the isses I was having before.

I have decided to do a full re-install of windows 7, and have also decided to use my old WinXP disk to do a full format of both hard drives.

I delete all existing partitions, and go to create a partition on what will be the c: drive, and notice that it has also partitioned the D: drive without being asked to (not to 100% either)

I'm sure this didn't use to happen and that drives could be partitioned independantly. This seems very odd to me.

Could anyone shed any light as to why this is happening? I don't want to re-install 7 only to find it is still an issue.

EDIT - NOtice that both disks also have the same MBdisk Number, ID number and bus number. I'm sure one used to be 0 and the other 1? Am I going mad?

Regards

Paul

Why use the XPired CD to do the format if you have a Win7 DVD?

Computer is running Win7 Pro SP1, 64 bit.

MS .NET updates have been failing since June 2015 with error Code 656.

1) Tried .NET repair, updates fail.
2) Tried installing updates after clean boot. Updates fail.
3) Uninstalled .NET 4.5.2 using MS utility (through Control Panel, Uninstall)
4) attempted to reinstall 4.5.2 using downloaded offline installer, got error "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed".
5) ran a registry edit to fix Windows Installer as found on MS website, still cannot install.
6) ran .NET cleanup tool from MSDN
7) reregistered msiexec for 64 bit, 4 commands.
8) tried reinstall using web installer
(all work done under administrative network login).
Also tried reinstall when logged in as local system administrator, same error.

I still get "Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed" error when trying to reinstall .NET Framework 4.5.2.

I do have the option to revert to restore point and get back to where this computer was before all this started.

Advice?

Thanks!
Lynn

I am running Windows XP professional version 2002.  It has the Service Pack 3.  I am trying to install a scanner from my bank but I receive the following error message:

'The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.'

I worked with the tech support for the scanner.  He tried uninstalling and reloading the driver and each time he attempted an operation got this same error notice.  When he opened the program folder there were no files in it.  He concluded that the driver program was not properly loading and did not have a fix.

Is this error due to Microsoft ending support for XP?  Is it an error in my system?  Anyone have an idea how to handle this?
