I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an HP Pavilion dv4 that was connecting to wireless just fine one night. The laptop lid was closed putting the machine into hibernation for the night. The next day the laptop would no longer connect to wireless.

When I try to manually connect to a wifi network, it tells me it can't see any networks. Just to test I turned on my phones hotspot capability and told the laptop to rescan and it still didn't see the network.

I shutdown the laptop so that I could physically check the wireless card. I made sure that it was properly seated and that the wires connecting the wire part of the antenna to the chip are secure as well.

The wireless card is a Broadcome 4322AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n

Please let me know if you need any other information to help me troubleshoot this

A:Windows vista stopped viewing wireless networks

There is most likely nothing wrong with your laptop's wireless adapter, otherwise Windows would have reported an entirely different error (such as "wifi adapter not detected") and you would have been unable to even open the "Detect wireless networks" window.

There is a checklist here which may help: Troubleshoot problems finding wireless networks

Hi,
Can anyone PLEASE help me with a problem of view web video's, ie. News, Curent Affair. I am using Vista Ultimate x64 and at first everything worked fine with Web Video's, now for some reason every time I click onto a video link I get a message about installing a Flash Player(Adobe) which I have installed at least 6-8 times. I do get a message that the Flash Player has installed ok, but still I can not view Video's and get referred back to installing a Flash Player. Any help would be truely appreciated. Thanks.

Have you uninstalled Flash? Use the uninstaller from here: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html#uninstaller and then reinstall it.

Also reset all of IE's Security Settings to defaults (thats under Tools -> Internet Options in IE).

Does anyone know how to force IE7 to dispay its content across the screen rather than having to scroll down the list? I seem to remember a fix for XP in the distant past.

Are you thinking of the Microsoft Digital Image Standard 2006 Editor, or maybe just the simpler MS Paint program? For either one, just right click on the file name, select Open With (not just plain Open) and scroll down to and select Choose Default Program. If the program you want is not in the list of Recommended Programs, click on either Browse and find a program on your computer, or the blue link that will help you find a program on the internet. Once you're chosen the program you always want to use to open JPEGS, make sure you check the checkbox just above that blue link.FYI, if Paint is the program you're thinking of, it's most likely here on your computer: C:\Windows\System32\mspaint.exe.If the other one (or a similar version) is also on your computer, it's probably here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Digital Image 2006\pi.exeHope this helps!

When I burned it on my desktop I did the quick format (sonic DLA asked to format), added the files

I have been using a live feed for watching my security cameras when I am away from my business using Windows XP for years. I have just upgraded my computer and my new one has Windows Vista Ultimate installed on it.
Now when I go onto the website it won't show me any feed. Instead I am getting a tiny box on the left hand corner of the screen where the feed normally is. If I hit the play button I get a box up telling me "Active X downloading, please refresh". Earlier I installed an active x control on my computer and this has made no difference. When I refresh nothing else happens either.
I have also gone into security settings and enabled everything to do with active x.
Any help would be really appreciated.

What type of feed is it? In what format does the feed play? Maybe naming the program would help answer some of the questions.

When you right-click the box, do you get any information about what plug-in may be responsible or needed?

Have you disabled Flash or scripting with any of your anti-spyware apps?

Hello,I have a problem related to font problem in IE 7 of vista.I was using windows XP previously and all the required nepali fonts was installed on it .But now since I have clean installed vista on it i am having problem with viewing some nepali site like http://www.newsofnepal.com and other even after installing all the fonts which was in my windows xp before.Instead of showing the words of this site in nepali it shows some rectangle boxes. But the amazing thing is that I have no problem with reading my previous microsoft word files which was typed using nepali font and also firefox installed in this vista machine also shows the words of newofnepal site in nepali. So could anyone please provide me the solution for solving this problem in internet explorer 7 of vista. Thanks

A:Problem Viewing Some Website In Ie 7 Of Vista

The rectangle boxes usually mean that the proper languages haven't been installed. I'd check in Control Panel (Classic view)...Regional and Language Options...Keyboards and Languages tab....Install/Uninstall Languages button. You should be able to install the Nepali language there.FYI - I have no problem viewing the page even without installing the Nepali language pack - so I'm not sure exactly what the issue is here.Try going to Start and type in "iexplore -extoff" (without the quotes) and press Enter. This will open IE without any addons. Then navigate to the http://www.newsofnepal.com site to see if you can read it then.

Being very new to Vista I have yet to discover a lot of its tricks. At the moment I get quite worried when clicking on a folder to, for example, drag a file to it, the only indication of this selection is a very feint, and hardly discernible, light blue. On several occasions the file has ended up in the wrong folder. I am sure there must be a way to make this a clearly seen darker blue (as with all previous Windows versions) - for the benefit of those of us with eyesight less than 20/20!

Have a problem absolutely none of the local experts can help me with. On my PC running XP, if I have multiple windows open at once and the cursor/pointer happens to touch one of the windows in the background it immediatly brings it to the forefront. This used to only happen if I actually clicked on one of the background windows, but now just merely passing over it with the pointer brings it to the front. HELP, annoying as you imagine it is.Mod Edit: Duplicate topics have been merged into this one. Duplicate post was removed. ~tg

Seems like we've had this one before, or one like it, but I'm not coming up with much. Have you tried a different mouse? It seems reasonable that there may be a wiring short at the mouse end that simulates clicking when you move the mouse. Are you using any software like Intellimouse? Go to Mouse in the Control Panel and make sure you don't have Quicklock enabled, and check your double-clicking speed. Try changing the speed a bit slower or faster and see if the problem persists.

I have a huge collection of very small (8x8 to 16x16) images that I need to look through. It would be nice if I could see each picture zoomed in to a larger size, since it is hard to make out the detail with the naked eye. However, when I try to zoom in using Windows Explorer, the displayed size of the images doesn't change at all, only the space between them. If I open the image with Windows Photo Viewer, which came with my computer, I can zoom in and out using the mouse wheel. However, the moment I move to the next or previous image, the zoom reverts back to the normal setting, forcing me to zoom in again. This quickly becomes unbearably tedious for thousands of images, and I was wondering if there's a better way to let me see the zoomed in images.

Can anyone kindly let me have step-by-step directions how to view DVDs on my laptop in Windows 8.1?If you allow me to be a little more "daring", may I ask you to send me a list of step-by-step directions, not a video, as I am hard of hearing and my memory is a little faulty, unless I view written text which I can easily copy and print for reference. The method I was using until a few months ago won't work now, I have no idea why !Am outlining the method hereunder for your guidance:-1. Right-click on the COMPUTER icon.2. Right-click on the DVD icon.3. Click OPEN4. Click on VIEW > TILES5. Open the first file in the list that now pops up with WINDOWS PHOTO VIEWER. Many thanks in advance.GUZEPPI (aged 77)

I'll try and describe this as best I can - I often have a lot of MS Word windows open at the same time, and windows seems to vary between showing me them as small preview windows or a vertical list when hovering over them in the taskbar - I only want to show them as a list, but can't see how to do this?

Any replies most welcome as all these 'mini window' previews are annoying the hell out of me!

TIA

A:Viewing Open Windows From Taskbar?

Hello DekHog,

It depends on if you want all icons to never show thumbnails preview windows and only lists, or just have it set to show a list after so many windows are open instead.

If never, then you can use one of the options that you like best in the tutorial below to do this.

Taskbar Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable

If only after so many windows are open to have the list, then the tutorial below can help show you how to.

Taskbar List or Thumbnail Previews Mode - Change

Hope this helps,

I am having difficulty viewing a mixed content CD. I have a CD that has audio and video on it that I have purchased. The problem is that when I put it in my drive it only shows the audio files. I have tested this with another computer and when I put in the disk it only shows the video files. What is the work around so that I can choose what files on the disk I want to access please? I am sure it is something simple, but I just cannot figure it out.

Thanks,

I have looked at many webpages and still unable to solve
this issue. Maybe someone here can help. My printer broke down but I kept the windows printer spool file (.spl) and need to view the data from it since this is all I have from the document. The spool (.spl) file has a EMF header and was created from pcl6.
I wish to view that file but all I get is garbled text if I open it with wordpad etc. Is there any program or way that I can view it because the data(only text not photos) is in that spool file(3 Megs in size) but the printer broke down and I have no way of viewing it.

I tried Ghost script and other PCL viewers with out much luck since my file is a .spl

Please help..

Thank you in advance,

Peter

For work I create church bulletins on my new Win 8 laptop. When viewed on a windows 7 or xp computer, the document is too big, even though it is created with the same font. I spent hours on the phone with Microsoft and they walked me through Publisher 2013, but that didn't help. I really think it has to do with the operating system. I have tried everything. No matter what OS I create the document in, it appears fine on the screen, but when viewed in anything lower than win 8, it needs to be tweaked to fit properly. I have even tried saving the doc. in earlier versions of publisher and that doesn't work. Any advise?

Thanks,
Suzanne

I remember reading sometime ago it was possible to view a clickable list of all my Windows 7 files through Internet Explorer.

Just wondered how to do it and if it was a good idea?

A lot of my files are also on 2 connected External Drives F Drive and G Drive.

A:Viewing windows files in Internet explorer?

I suspect you mean view all files on a computer using Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer.

Right click Computer and select Open. Expand the arrow in front of C.
Expand the arrow in front of Users.
If you click on your name (don't let the lock on your name scare you), you will see folders with your files in the right hand pane. Click on any of them to see what they contain.

For an external hard drive: be sure the drive is attached.
Click on computer and you should see the drives. Click on either drive to see the contents.

My guess would be possible bad sectors on the hard drive...the alternative would be to guess some sort of file corruption.I would try running the chkdsk /r command on each of the drives with this situation.Start/Run...type chkdsk /r X: (where X: represents the respective partition/drive) and hit Enter. Spacing must be exactly as shown.Alternative method of running same command: In Explorer or My Computer, right click on the drive, select Properties, select the tools tab, and click on the Check Now button. Hi, I have a bit of a problem.

My local area connection disconnects during or after loading a streaming video on sites like youtube, or even the new member help video for this website. Disabling and enabling the connection seems to fix the problem until I load a new video.

When down, the connection will keep its name, but say no network access. One or two times the name changed to unidentified network.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

I know that by right-clicking and selecting 'arrange icons by> picture taken on' would sort out the problem...but for some reason when i right-click its not one of the options! Anyone know how to get that option back? The folder is customised as a photos folder...and only contains jpeg images, so i don't understand why i cant choose to arrange them by picture taken on, when i can do it in other similar folders!

You sound suprised... that puzzles me... Why would you put images from different cameras in the same folder...Hate to say, but it's beyond me
Make a folder for each camera... then copy and paste to the cameras folder

I am on XP Media Centre 2002 SP2. My Windows Explorer has developed a sudden habit of crashing EVERY SINGLE TIME I either click on a 'Back' icon or click 'Back' on my mouse side button. It ONLY happens in Explorer, not in Firefox, IE, Media Centre, Thunderbird or anything else I use the 'Back' function in.

I have not installed any new programs recently, but I do approve all security-related Microsoft Windows Updates, so am totally up to date on them.

Does anyone know if the latest round of updates contains anything a bit dodgy? It's certainly possible that this started at around the same time as my last update a few days ago...

Many thanks for any advice or tips!

A:Solved: After viewing video - minimizing and opening windows becomes choppy

I believe I solved my problem. I decreased Graphics Hardware Acceleration and that seems to have fixed things. Apparently a recent upgrade (maybe Adobe Flash) set my display setting for "FULL" Graphics Hardware Acceleration, which my oldish AGP 2x 4x video card memory (only 64MB) cannot handle. I suspect this happened when Adobe Flash upgraded to Flash 10, which automatically sets graphics hardware acceleration to "full". I noticed that Flash 10 requires a minimum of 128MB memory when using full graphics hardware acceleration, thus prompted me to rollback the amount of hardware acceleration for my display.

If anyone else has an oldish XP using a video card with less than 128MB and using Adobe Flash 10 that struggles with system graphics after having viewed a video (especially in full screen mode), then I suggest you try this: Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot > Move the "Hardware Acceleration" slider bar from "Full" toward "None" until it corrects erratic graphics on the display.

I hope this helps anyone facing the same strange (choppy/shaky/jiggly) graphics issues I had after having viewed a video.

Hi, all.. I read through the late 2009 thread titled: "Solved: Joining W7 netbook to MSHome group". I am having more or less the same problem. My XP computers can see and access each other, and can at least see the Windows 7 PC; however, the Windows 7 PC cannot see the other PCs on the network. The workgroup name is WORKGROUP. I went through some of the steps suggested in the 2009 thread. I found that I could ping the PCs by IP address, but not by name. The PCs are set up for file and printer sharing. Also, none of the PCs can see the Ubuntu PC.

Incidentally, the Windows 7 is 64 bit Home Premium and the XPs are XP Professional, SP3.

I guess my major concern is access to a printer connected to my XP desktop; although it would be nice to be able to access the shared folders on the PCs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys,

Recently picked up a Go Pro Hero 2 last week, and I've been making videos. They are being filmed on 960p and 1080p. The video isn't choppy, but the sound is. How do I fix this?

I've read that I should update some codecs? Update the drivers?

I attached a picture of the specs.

The Graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 6150SE Integrated.

I was planning on upgrading the graphics card for a 1gb ddr3 and a new power supply (500watt). - Would doing that fix my problem? Again, only the sound is choppy.

It's driving me insane!

Thanks, Dan.

A:Choppy sound when viewing HD video in Windows Media Player/Quicktime

Ok. I checked out the stickied thread at the top of this section about Realtek HD Audio codecs/driver updates. I updated it, and it still is choppy.

EDIT:

Is there something wrong with my Windows Media Player? It's the latest version.....

EDIT:

The sound is fine in Quicktime. Just messed up in Window media player. -_-

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Cannot keep "thumbnails" as default viewing option throughout Windows Explorer programs & functions

Running XP Home, Version 2002, SP2

All my folders are set to thumbnail in windows explorer, but when I go to send a picture on msn or open in another application the pictures are in list view.

This requires an extra step to view the thumbnail, having to go to "view menu" then check thumbnails to preview files before opening/sending.

I have scoured the internet for a solution, to no avail.

Anyone be so kind as to lend any expertise on the issue?

Thank you.

Is the COA sticker on the case of the machine readable? - can you see the whole of the Product Key? (DO NOT post it!)

If so, you can clean install Vista using downloaded files, after creating your own boot disk.
First task is to download and create the disk
You'll need to download the appropriate files from this list -
http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/57-windows-vista-direct-download-links
You'll want the Vista SP1 Ultimate disk (either x86 or x64 depending on your machine) in the appropriate language.
the Ultimate download for Vista will install all the usual editions of Vista - dependent only on the Key use, so make absolutely sure that when it comes to installing, you use your proper COA Key from the sticker.

Follow the instructions for creating the ISO and DVD from the files.

Once created, it's a fairly simple matter to boot from teh DVD, and then install Vista.

Hi,

I have a couple of Windows XP computers and a couple of Vista computers. I share files, printers etc. and it all runs great.

One of the family has been away, and now they have come back their laptop won't connect to the XP computers. It connects to the Vista (and Win7) computers just fine.

It must be something wrong with the laptop, as my other Vista/Win7 computers connect fine to the XP ones perfectly.
I have tried disabling firewalls.

The error I get is:
Windows Cannot Access \\COMPNAME

If I click diagnose I get:
"COMPNAME" is not a valid hostname

The laptop is running Windows Vista Home 32bit with SP1, using it's wireless connection. One of the XP machines is wireless, the other is wired and both are XP Pro 32bit with SP3.

Can anybody help me out please?
Many thanks...

I have a similar issue with my new Vista 64 Home Premium HP Laptop as well
Actually I can see the share folders from the XP (to the laptop) but I get a access error when vista trys to connects to the XP Desktop.

It could be norton but it seems unlikely...as the XP connect ok to the Vista Laptop

after some googles and so forth I have not found a soultion yet

I have a 2007 Dell desktop that never had any updates. It's a friend's computer and I started doing all the updates through the updater, there were about 90. This was working ok and then after restarting it was stuck with the screen configuring updates - part 3 of 3 do not turn off.

I didn't realize there were all these problems with Vista until this had already happened.

When I try to complete updates from windows updates, I keep on trying to install/download Windows Vista SP 2 and I get an error -8007045D. I have been trying to troubleshoot this for too many hours and I have learned that there are different issues that could be causing the problem.
I have tried all of them, and not one works for me.
I did receive a piece of advice from the forum here which I am now trying. Inst/download from Windows online, manually for my Vista 64 bit system. I am hoping it works and in addition, I am hoing that the windows issue was the reason that my windows in general were sluggish and freezing often.
Does anyone have any other ideas of what could be going on with my system?
Thanks

If you have a key then you must have originally had Vista. Where did it go?

IMO, stay clear of torrents, P2P in general. The malware forums are full of user`s with problems originating from d\l`d via torrent files.
