Preferred Solution: downloading/Installation ISSUES

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try turning off 'User Account control' in the User Accounts control panel.

I've tried downloading a few programs, but they all seem to end with the same result. Once I try to open up the program using the shortcut, it says the item has been moved or changed so the shortcut will no longer work properly. I try opening it manually without using a shortcut, but I can't find it anywhere. The folder where it should have the software is empty.

I'm starting to get impatient, I've tried solving this problem on my own for a day and a half, and I'm going nowhere. Is it a problem with my Windows Installer?
Also, this problem only occured to me about a day or two ago.

I am using XP home and not sure what to do when I have installed something. It tells you to exit all open windows - what does that cover.

I have Avast antivirus, Zonealarm, microsft antispyware, spybot S&D, Spyware blaster and Kodak running - do I have to exit all of these (surely I will leave myself unprotected). I have just been closing a few of them down but would really like to know the correct thing to do = do I also have to come off the internet?

Grateful

Liz

A:Installation after downloading

In general, "Close all open windows' refers to items that are actually open on the screen or things running in the menu bar. It does NOT refer to things you see in the systray (system notification area - generally lower right).

You should NEVER have to disable your antivirus or firewall to download or install an application. You *may* have to tell your AV and/or anti-malware apps to allow the installation, as they may be watching for and notifying you of this type of activity.

When I downloaded the Windows 8 iso from my Vista desktop, it defaulted to the 32 bit version, I guess because 32 bit is what is on the desktop. But I want a 64 bit iso. How do I specify that?

Thanks

A:Downloading Win 8 installation iso

Hello Vincenzo,

Unfortunately, you can't specify which one you wanted. Instead you'll need to redownload the Windows8-Setup.exe file on a 64-bit PC to be able to get a 64-bit ISO.

Hope this helps,

i re-installed norton once more, stupidly

i've gone from 1.3 gb free space to 994 mb
norton a-v 27 mb

i'm not touching that program again until i get some info --

how do i reclaim that space?
how do i load it correctly?

Just installed my new motherboard and memory. I had problems getting my windows 64 to download. I finally got it downloaded but now no updates will install I get error code C8000643 when I try to push for updates. I can't get any of my games to install I should say. They download but will not install. I have some other issues but I think if I can get these taken care of the others will fix themselves. Any one?

I had the Windows 10 install files in $WINDOWS.~BT and $Windows.~WS totalling >5GB. A few days ago I decided to also download the Windows 10 ISO.

I've now found that the 5GB+ installation files have been deleted.

I'd like to have both options regarding the upgrade and so would like to re-download the installation files. How do I get them re-downloaded?

If I click the Get Windows 10 icon the only option is Upgrade Now, not what I want - unless that will initiate a download and then give me the option of not starting the actual upgrade.

Hope this makes sense.

A:Download installation files deleted after downloading ISO

I know you want to have both options, but it really is not necessary. You have the ISO file. That's more than enough.

As to the disappearance of $Windows.~BT and WS....................
Did you do any disk cleanup using the built-in Disk Cleanup or using Ccleaner ?
Did you recall you selected to delete the "Previous installation file " in order to delete windows.old ?
I know that happened to me when I used Ccleaner and selected that option under Advanced heading.

I am having issues with my download speeds. I have went on numerous sites and checked out our dl speed and its saying its what dsl is suppossed to be giving us. (which is 256kps both ways) But on any other site that i am loggin on and dl from, its only givin me 35-40 kps. (like a games site or a movie site, anything and everything).

Can anyone point me in the right direction to what might be happening here? Thanks.

A:downloading issues

You're confusing bits and bytes. You have a 256kbit connection, and you're downloading 35kbytes/sec.

35kbytes * 8bits = 280kbits

Looks fine to me.

I have a problem ( one of many) with downloading I download, process says it is downloading ( only takes a couple seconds) and when I go to the folder to get it, the folder is empty. I have been trying this for days. I also am not able to right click to choose the option of opening containing folder . Another thing I see is, the symbol to the left of where it says it downloaded, looks like a notepad or something.

A:Downloading issues

The first thing you should be doing is updating your system - you only have service pack 1 installed, and many Anti-Virus programs willl not work properly on that.

What Anti-Virus do you have installed? What other AV have your EVER had installed on that machine?
Have they always been kept up-to-date - or has the subscription lapsed beofre being updated/replaced?

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

I am currently running Windows Vista, and lately have been unable to download a single thing. When I try to download something, it acts as if it does download, but when it finishes, I can't find it. I look in the folder that it says it went to, and its never there. I try going into the recent items tab on my start button, and I am able to find it there, but when I click on it, a window pops up saying that there is a shortcut missing, and that its looking for it. Please help me.

A:Downloading issues

When you click the download link and the download window appears, are you choosing "Save" or "Run"? You should be choosing "Save" and then should be choosing a location to save it.

The best way to have complete control over your downloads and not lose any of them is to create a folder right on your desktop and name it Downloads. When you start a download and choose "Save", direct it to be saved in that folder. You can download and save as many files as you want. You can then install them at your leisure.

It's my guess that your downloads have been saved by default in one of your temp folders.

I'm running ie7 with windowsxp although i sometimes had the same problem with ie6. When i click download on rapidshare or a similiar site, it often takes forever for the download window to pop-up. When the window does popup, my download is usually really fast (sort of like it's been downloading the whole time, but the window just decided to show up now). This usually happens after i've already had 1 or 2 normal downloads. It's not always like this, but it's becoming more and more frequent. For whatever reason, i prefer IE to Safari/Firefox/etc so i'm looking for solutions other than changing browsers. Please help!

A:Issues downloading!

Hello Vicious26 and welcome to TSF,

I'm not seeing anything here. Please do the following:

Run an online scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
Make sure you click the "Free Online Virus Scan" in the upper right hand corner of the page under the Free use Activescan header. We do NOT want the default spyXposer scan. Click on the Scan your PC button & a 'pop up' window shall appear. * ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
Click On 'Scan Now'
Enter your e-mail address & click 'Scan Now' ...begins downloading Panda's ActiveX controls.- 8MB
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Click on see report
Then click Save report
Post the contents of the report in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

In IE the download window immediately disappears, and in Firefox the download "cannot be found". The file pretty much just completely disappears when it is finished downloading. Hi all I Issues with Downloading ve been struggling with this issue for the better part of weeks now and have been searching up and down the net trying all kinds of solutions but still this problem persists so let Issues with Downloading me explain The Problem I am unable to download exe files from the web using any browser on any Issues with Downloading of the computers connected to our home wifi network The issue seems to have developed randomly as things were all fine up until a few weeks ago Also if I try to check for windows updates using any of the computers connected it will fail as will trying to update nvidia drivers on the pc In the case of downloading exe files from the internet and the nvidia drivers the download will simply stay at b s speed - simply never begin Again this happens now on all computers on the network I can browse the internet just fine although i ve noticed that more images that usual don t seem to load properly but downloading seems to be the main issue Not everything is affected though for example downloading updates or programs via Steam works without a hitch and I can update virus definitions through the Malwarebytes program just fine although that wasn t the case for all malware spyware programs Attempted Solutions As for attempts to fix the issue I ve tried several fix it programs from microsoft scanned using bitdefender malwarebytes superantispyware and numerous other fixes including resetting IE and internet options and sfc No viruses or malware was ever picked up I also called my ISP who came out to look at it I live in an apartment there is a box for the ISP near the roof with ethernet cables that come out from there and drops in through the window don t ask Anyway someone from the ISP came out to look at it and when he plugged his laptop directly into the cable bypassing our wifi router all together which connects to their box he faced the same issue unable to download exe files They never fixed it and are now trying to pin the problem on us saying that they see download activity as I can browse and download other file types like pdf and zip thus the problem is on our end I guess I m just curious about what those with more knowledge might think about this issue and if they have any ideas as far as fixes Is it possible that their server is blocking something such as specific upload requests packets or is there a minor fault in the cable that could cause disruption such as this Ideas and suggestions are welcome Many thanks nbsp

With two security suites "protecting" you from each other it's a bit surprising that you can do anything. Uninstall both. Then run Symantec's Norton Removal Tool and the Webroot Removal Tool. You may have to run them multiple times.

After you get completely rid of them and your PC is operating more or less normally again you can, if you wish, reinstall one of those security suites, but you should never have multiple firewalls or anti-viruses running.

For whatever reason, I can't seem to download anything from internet. I have tried both IE7 and Firefox3 and all I get is a box that says "Active Download (Unknown time remaining). In some cases it downloads 99% of the file then stops. Other times it downloads 1% and stops.

I use Windows Firewall (I have tried shutting that off and trying..no go) have scanned it with CWS Shredder, Ad-Aware and Spybot...nothing. I can't even download Panda Activescan

A:Downloading Issues in Vista

ok here is what it might be. first off if there is already an antivirus program that came with vista then any other spyware/adware blockers or antivirus programs that you installed most likely cause the problem for some reason alot of the freeware spyware/adware antivirus etc tend to conflict with windows vista and case downloads to not work or even "disappear". I had to uninstall avg in order to be able to download anything.

If you can't get any of these programs/updates download them on a non-infected PC put them onto CD/USB flash drive then transfer them to your PC.If you think you are infected submit a hijackthis log to the HJT Forum. How to submit a hijackthis logDownload HijackthisTry running the following from safe mode (Getting to safe-mode) Sysclean you'll also need the virus template file from here lpt***.zip remember to extract the contents of the zip file into the same folder as Sysclean.comorDrWeb CureITorKASFX which is powered by the Kaspersky AV engine, you will need internet access to update it. If you haven't got net access in safe mode, update it before you use it.If your good with the command line also try Sophos Command Line scanner this command will scan all of your hdd's SAV32CLI.EXE -F -di -remove -dn -mbr -all -zip -p=avscanlog.txt and give you a log file to review afterwards. Also try installing and running A2 Free and Ewido again run from safe mode.I'd also run Spybot(Spybot Tutorial) and AdawareIf your using Win2K/XP run adaware/spybot from "safe mode with command prompt" If your using Win9x just run it from safe mode the command line options aren't needed..At the C:\ prompt type the following:-cd\C:\progra~1\spybot~1\spybotsd.exe /autocheck /autofixcd\C:\progra~1\lavasoft\ad-awa~1\ad-aware.exe

Simply downloading a program (MBAM* or any other legitimate security application) would not break your internet access or browser.

Did you run a scan with MBAM and it detected and removed malware?
Some types of malware (and the removal thereof) can result in problems with internet access.
This can often be repaired with the help of malware experts and the guided use of special tools.

There is only one version of the MBAM installer; there are not separate 32-bit or 64-bit versions.
That particular message likewise suggests the possibility of infection.

Since you are having problems with "many programs not working", it sure sounds as if you could be infected.

I would suggest getting formal, guided help from a trained malware expert, either here or at another reputable computer disinfection forum.

Hi, I've got some issues with whenever I download torrents (legal downloads of course). Whenever I so much as open any torrent client, all of my other internet stops working. All of the internet in my entire house too, not just my computer. This only seems to happen in my Se7en installation, but not on my Ubuntu format.

I've tried uTorrent, Vuze, BitLord, BitComet, and BitTorrent.

Any ideas why?

A:Issues with torrent downloading

Yikes - you might need to take that up with your ISP. Sounds like they've clamped down pretty tight in your area. Mind me asking what service you have?

Also, does it happen when you so much as open the client without opening a torrent file? Or only when a transfer is initiated?

Cheers,

This isn't the first time I've posted here about this problem and after the first time it did seem fixed for a while However after a few weeks said problem returned with a vengeance Etc... Updates, Issues Downloading, Automatic and I am on the verge of throwing this laptop out the window The problem is this I turn on my computer and everything is running smoothly Automatic Updates, Issues Downloading, Etc... and quickly But then in between five and fifteen minutes a little black box appears in the screen that resembles the quot command prompt quot box and it says quot C Windows system wuauclt exe quot on the top bar The box itself remains blank except for the little flashing white line Automatic Updates, Issues Downloading, Etc... Not only that when I tried to shut down my computer after the black box would appear it would tell me that it was quot Installing updates of please do not shut down or unplug your computer quot This screen would remain from anywhere between fifteen minutes and an hour before finally shutting down After some research I discovered that this was the automatic updating feature and that it could be corrupted by viruses I ran every scan I could and as far as I can tell this has not been caused by a virus So I posted here and received some instructions about cleaning and stopping the automatic updates And this did stop that little black box from appearing for the amount of time I would have my computer on However when I would turn it off and then turn it back on the little black box would pop up again Stopping it every time got annoying so I shut the automatic updating system down out of pure frustration Then as I am a college student and downloading assignments are a necessity for me I tried to download instructions for a term paper The computer claimed I downloaded it but it wasn't in my download box and then when i searched for it on the computer it wasn't there either This happened two days after I shut down the automatic update Then in the right hand corner of the screen I started getting warnings about how I had security problems because I shut down the automatic updating Is there anyone who can tell me how to permanently get rid of that black box and fix the automatic updating part of System And if possible tell me if my shutting down the automatic updating system for a few days destroyed my downloading capabilities A fast response would be much appreciated Thank you

A:Having Issues Downloading Files Over 50mb

Hello Grimyone and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. It does appear that there are multiple anti-virus applications running on this computer (McAfee and BitDefender). Running more than 1 anti-virus application at the same time can cause file access and resource issues and if there is an infection the multiple programs can block each other from dealing with the infected file. I highly recommend that you choose which application you want to keep and uninstall the other one(s) to prevent these problems. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For browser and internet related issues I would suggest posting to the Web Browsing/Email and Other Internet Applications forumThe techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to internet application issues. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it.Cheers.OT

It's not really too big a deal, more just a royal pain in the @$$

When I right click, and save image as, when using IE, it always saves it as a BMP file, with the name of the image "untitled". Even with images that I previous DLed it will pretend they're BMp rather than JPG

It didn't used to do this awhile ago, this is something new.,

Help ?

(to check and see if it's just the site, which I know it's not, I DL a lot at http://www.depthcore.com/v4/core.php?p=packs )

I have been having a few problems with my computer over the last week. I have tried updating four applications (iTunes, Apple Safari, Adobe Reader, and Windows Media Player) and have gotten the message that the digital signature is invalid and the publisher was unknown and then it fails to install at all.
There was also a message coming up about a script error needing to be debugged but then when it tried to debug, it didn't do anything for over an hour. I had thought that there might be a possibility that I had gotten a trojan horse or something like it. I have Norton 360 though, and it hasn't caught anything.

A:Several Problems including downloading issues

Make sure that the time & date of your computer hasn't been changed and is accurate. This is frequently done by malware, and can also be a symptom of a dying CMOS battery.

I am having issues when it comes downloading files from the internet. I usually use sites such as www.adrive.com and www.megaupload.com to download files to my computer, but for some reason the files I attempt to download display that it will take 20 hours to download a 700MB file (megaupload), usually it takes about an hour to download a 700MB file. Also when I use adrive it will say "Sorry, but the file is too busy. Please try to download again in a few minutes.", but I really do think it is something wrong with my computer and plus still megaupload says it will take 20 hours to download a 700MB file, when it usually takes an hour. Can you help? If you have any questions, please ask. HJT file is below.

I have Safari set up to where my downloaded files go to a folder on my desktop.

Just recently I've run into some problems. When the files is downloading, I can check to see it's containing folder, which happens to be a temp file.

Then once it's finished, I cannot open it because it says that the file has moved since I downloaded it. I checked the previous temp file, and it was empty. I also checked the folder where my files should be routed to, and it is not their either.

I am running Safari on my HP Laptop, using Vista.

A:[SOLVED] Safari Downloading Issues

in your safari download manager, right click the file you downloaded and click on containing folder. It should open the folder the file was downloaded in.

Hey all got a customer's computer in here with a download problem...There is one user account on this Windows Vista machine that has an issue with IE 9 when downloading files. The banner at the bottom after clicking save says "running security scan" and then "could not download this file" after that. However, the file actually does download and it runs just fine.On IE8 the problem doesn't exist at all, files download with no issues every time and no error messages. The issue only occurs on ONE user account on the system. Other users download just fine regardless of the IE version.Anyone seen this before?

heres wht led me to believe that the tempary internet files and/or cookies and/or history folders were corrupt. If I try to change the amount of disk space that the tempory internet files can use it says: Please select a value between 8 and 8 for how much space Temp internet files may use. If I choose 8 its reset to 0 and I beleive that's why the youtube/online vids don't work.

A:downloading issues - itunes/router failing??

Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
See if that helps with the issue.

Hey, download and install EasyBCD.

Once you have done that:

Code:
- Open it up
- Click Add/Remove Entries(in the "EasyBCD toolbox" list of buttons)
- Under "Add an Entry:" click the windows tab(if not already selected)
- Fill out the options as so:
Type: Windows Vista/Longhorn
Name: [The name you want to come up when booting]
Drive: [The drive/partition you have vista installed on]
- Click Add Entry
Alternatively (still in EasyBCD) you could re-install the vista bootloader (self explanatory under "Manage Bootloader"), but you'd have to also go through the steps above for XP.

Cheers,
Jamey

Hey guys, i'm not sure where this should go i decided to post it here, pardon me if it is the at the wrong place. =x

I have an issue with my system since the start when i bought my computer. It seems as though i can't install certain files. Concerns me to not be able to install games on this computer. Occasionally, there are games that require me to "open with" something once i click install when running the installer. Since i have nothing to "open with" with, i am hence unable to install.

I'm currently running a vista 64bit, i have a feeling the issue has something to do with it. I tried repairing it and all, doesn't seem to have an issue.

Would be nice to resolve this issue. Thanks guys.

Hi RCAASTRO and welcome to Tenforums.

One question: Do you need to "upgrade" or can you clean install? If you are willing to clean install, I'm sure we can do this easily. If you need to upgrade (because you have software you don't want to lose), then there will be a lot of work involved, and I can't guarantee success. I have seen quite a few W7 upgrades that end up with issues, which are corrected by a clean install.

If you need to upgrade, please start by posting a screenshot of your Disk Management for us. Thanks.

A:XP Pro Installation Issues

Your motherboard should have come with a floppy containg the SATA drivers.

When you boot to the XP CD, look for a message at the bottom that says "Press F6 to install Third Party Drivers" (or very close to that). Press F6, insert the floppy, and XP will load the SATA drivers so it can see your new drive.

Hello first I want to thank Brink for his helpful tutorial I have recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite L issues Installation -S which was a cheap but perfectly sufficient laptop for my purposes I would like to set up a dual boot with the Windows that came pre-installed on it and a completely legal copy of Windows XP that I just purchased on ebay Upon following method two outlined by Brink partitioning my hard drive via the Windows disk manager Installation issues was no problem but as soon as I tried to install Windows XP I ran into a problem My computer crashed before the installation even began giving me a blue screen of death with a quot Stop x B quot error I Googled this to find out what it meant and soon learned that I was facing a very common problem with SATA driver incompatibility From what I gathered by reading some help threads it seems that I need to download some kind Installation issues of SATA driver that is compatible with my particular computer and then either use a program called nLite to make a quot slipstream quot CD that has the needed driver as well as the Windows XP installation on it or copy the driver files to an old floppy disk and use a usb-connected floppy drive that is recognized by my system as an A drive to install the driver by pressing F at the beginning of the Windows XP install setup OK seems simple enough I could go either route To my good fortune I even have such an external floppy drive as well as blank floppy disks that have been sitting in my closet for years My problem is that I have no idea how or where to obtain the needed SATA drivers going to the Toshiba support pages for my laptop does not seem to help at all they only list Windows drivers as possible downloads Is there some kind of general SATA driver that works for most computers or do I need one specifically designed for the laptop I bought Where can I get it Then there is an additional quot complication quot to my question For some reason I thought it might be a good idea to enter the BIOS and look around to see if maybe I could change something that would make it work out That is when I stumbled upon an option that mentioned quot SATA quot that could be changed from quot AHCI quot to quot Compatibility Mode quot Honestly I shouldn't have screwed with these since I had no idea what they meant but being easily lured I changed it to quot Compatibility Mode quot thinking it might make it well compatible Windows then started and downloaded about or drivers automatically upon startup some things with quot ATA quot in their names so it made me think I was on the right track so I restarted and tried the Windows XP install again This time it worked out Only when XP started it had a terribly small and horrid resolution right click on desktop - gt properties - gt only lets me change the resolution from x to x and it had absolutely no ability to connect to the internet neither wirelessly nor via Ethernet This is quite terrible so I used another computer to download the Net Framework and EasyBCD then moved them to my laptop with a flash drive and finished Brink's tutorial I rebooted and started up windows and looked again online for information about quot compatibility mode quot and it seems that while this makes installing Windows XP possible it is not the recommended method since one loses AHCI mode which cannot simply be turned back on in the BIOS without some drivers or something like that SO if any kind soul has bothered to read all my lengthy ramblings and can set me straight your help would greatly be appreciated At this stage my guess is that the Windows XP I have installed is lacking a bunch of drivers it needs This may explain my I am prevented from changing the resolution to something better than a very stretched out looking x and why I cannot connect to the internet So what should I do Should I reinstall windows XP in AHCI mode and either slipstream a CD or use the floppy drive to install the SATA drivers If so where do I get ... Welcome to sevenforums.
Sounds like you need to go into your device manager in win 7 and find the name of your graphics card and your network adapter. Go to the manufactures web site and find xp drivers download to 7. Then go to your xp and copy them from your 7 partition and install them in XP. This is a usual problem in an xp install. If Seven is working good for you and xp only has two missing drivers then you are doing good. I would stick with what you have going and see if you can fix it. Good luck to you.

Midway through the setup process, right before installation, the disc had an error. The setup was interrupted and the disc was permenantly damaged. Hello janemma,

Were you able to set the cd-rom as the first boot device in the BIOS?

I think you also have the boot menu at the Dell logo press F12. This should also give

you the option to select the cd-rom drive.

Is that the WinXP disc that was shipped with the system?

Look like you are trying to run the disc from within Windows. (not gonna work)

If you are able to get to the boot menu you will need to make sure that you have

your data files backed up as everything will be lost( unless you are trying to run the

repair option)

Hi guys,

I had XP a little while ago, and decided I wanted to learn Linux. The plan was to have a dual boot set up. Unfortunately, I misread/misunderstood something (i forget which) and I formatted and installed Linux by mistake. No big deal (i thought), I'll just whack XP pro back in, Re-install and do it again. However, the XP setup reckons it can't find my hard drive.

Linux works fine though, I'm using it now, and running XP in VirtualBox when I need it. I would however prefer to do it the other way around, and run Linux in VirtualBox, within XP.

Any ideas of how to get the XP Setup to recognise my hard drive?

A:XP Pro Installation Issues

The hard drive is being recognized in the BIOS right?

Windows doesn't see the hard drive at all? Have you tried unplugging the hard drive and then plugging it back in? It's odd that Linux runs fine, but Windows fails to see the hard drive.

Hi all I am new here and decided to try to install windows 7 on one of my computers. I Have a Asus A8v mb with an Opteron 2gig processor, 2 gig of memory and an ATI All in Wonder video card. I installed a clean 160 gig hdd and flopped in the DVD.

What happens is I get to where it sez you have to load a driver? I have done everything I can think of to load a driver (?) to get past this screen but it refuses. Of course it doesn't tell me what driver either. So I am shooting in the dark.

I have reset my bios to default to no avail. SOOO I am looking for a wiser one than I.

I have tried both the 64bit and 32bit versions with exactly the same results.

Can someone illuminate me on what to do next?

Thanks

Try the driver for the hard drive controller (mass storage controller) of your motherboard. In .inf form (not .exe form. If it is in .exe form then you probably need to extract it)

Do you have a Windows XP install disc to try? because it might let you get to the point of hard drive detection (just before installing the OS). If it can't detect any hard drives then it shows that special driver is needed. Although Windows 7 does support some newer SATA/RAID controllers so it is hard to say for sure.

Hopefully someone comes along who owns this same motherboard and can give you a definite answer.

Hi,

I have windows xp sp2. While tryin to install office communicator 2005, it fails and shows me the below message "installation was interrupted. no changes were made to the system'. Attached is the verbose log
Any help on resolving this would be helpful

A:Installation Issues

Hm, the message isn't very informative. You may want to try installing SP1 and see if it makes any difference. It's probably not the best suggestion, but that's all I can offer.

You could very well have a corrupt download. Have you tried downloading a new copy? Try a different mirror if there is one available.

Hi Lacc, sorry to hear that but looks like an issue with the hard drive.
This tutorial will help you wipe out your hard drive completely and then attempt to reinstall Windows 7. It works on Vista as well as windows 7.

Hope this helps,
Dinesh.

The lab in which I'm an intern recently got two new custom-made PCs. Here are the (what I think is relevant) specs:

CPU: Wolfdale E6500 2.93GHz
Motherboard: MSI G41M-S01
RAM: 4GB PC3-8500
HDD: Seagate 500GB SATA2 7200RPM
GPU: GMA X4500

Now, as I try to install Windows 7 Enterprise, courtesy of my school, it simply won't install. At the screen where I pick the partition to install it in, I keep getting an error, saying "The computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." This is on an untouched, straight out of the factory, hard drive.

The funny thing is, I downloaded a copy of the latest build of Ubuntu, and that installed completely fine without any issues.

Does anyone have any clue as to what might be going on?

I downloaded the windows xp 64 bit trial and burned it to a cd. I was just going to go buy a copy of xp pro, but a friend recommended I try out the 64 bit edition since the system that I recently built can actually take advantage of it. Also Iím a little light on cash now, and I figure this will save me the 200$ at least temporarily. So according to what I read, the setup should boot on its own from the cd, so I went into my BIOS and changed the boot order to boot from the cd before the hard drive, except it still wont load setup. To make matters worse, I read thereís no way to initiate the setup through the command line, so I cant just use a 98 startup disk and do it that way.

I actually burned 2 cdís at the time to be safe, and verified they both function on the computer Iím currently using. This is a completely fresh install as well, there hasnít been an OS installed on the hdd ever. The computer is detecting the hdd and the cd/dvd, so I donít think that is the problem. Not sure if it matters or not, the hard drive is a SATA drive, and the cd/dvd is just a generic cd/dvd. The error Iím getting is something along the lines of Nvidia boot agent starts, then fails, then I get an error thatís something along the lines of *Please insert system disk and press any key*. It appears to be trying to boot from the cd, I can hear the drive spinning, then it fails.

Im not completely illiterate when it comes to computers, but this is my first time building my own system and doing a completely fresh install of xp. I tried everything I know, yet I still canít figure this problem out. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. If you need the exact error messages just ask and I can get them, since I only have one monitor I have to disconnect the computer Iím currently using to see them.

Did you do a quick format or a full format when the drive was out of the system?

Blue screens during setup/install will typically be caused by a failing hard drive or bad memory. Both should be checked before doing anything else.

In order to test the hard drive you can run one of the diagnostic programs below. The files, in ISO format, will need to be burned to a CD using a program that can burn CD image files.

Hey guys, I am trying to install Windows 7 on my computer. For some reason, it loads up to the part where you select the language. Then when it says "setup is starting..." i just get the busy little circle thing. It's been like that for about 15 minutes, is this normal?

Hello rosefox911, welcome to Seven Forums!

First: If the Windows 7 install disk is one you burned yourself it may be a bad burn and needs to be done again, if so this would be the first thing to try.

Use the free ISO burner at the link below to burn another at a speed of now more than 4x and select to let the program to verify the disk before it finishes.

ImgBurn Free ISO Burning Software

Second: After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "secure erase" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old Windows drivers, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to; it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.

Well, as many of you know, I've been trying to install Vista. I have 2 problems I cant solve.

1.) When installing via ISO image w/ Daemon tools, I get an error saying I need at least 452MB in any partition. WTF?! I tried with a 120GB partition, both unallocated, and formatted NTFS. How can I get around this? My friend did the same and had no problems.

2.) When installing via CD, I get asked for CD/DVD drivers. I found them, BUT Vista installer doesnt read the .zip, .exe, or the .bin extracted from the .exe file. Nothing seems to be working, and I know these are the right drivers. Help? My drive is GSA-H20L I got the drivers off the LG website. Vista install asks for a folder too, and i tried putting all 3 of the file formats in a folder. Still, nothing.

And yes. My PC is fully capable of Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
Please help???

I initially had a problem getting the Windows 7 DVD to boot when in DOS. I realised I had to change enable legacy support for USB keyboard in the BIOS. This worked.

Now though, when the disc loads, it goes to the screen Windows is setting up files, or whatever and the white bar fills at the bottom. Then goes to the black screen with 'Windows Starting' and the flag logo in the middle of the screen, then when it changes to the blue screen, I can see and move my mouse cursor, I can hear the disc spinning in the drive, but it just stays at that screen. It doesn't prompt me any further, it just stalls. I can still move the cursor, but nothing happens.

A friend suggested removing the jumper pin on the hard drive, but I'm not too technical with those and would hate to damage the pin.

I'm also using a wireless keyboard and mouse which connects through a USB. I've heard USB connections can muck with the setup and do not have a wired alternative to try out.

Any ideas? Am I on the right path?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.

I hope this is in the correct place and I hope I make sense.

I use comcast internet and all is good with speed and connections. However my problem is that when any software tries to connect to the internet to test my internet speed or even just to update itself, it does not work. I have experienced this for both world of war craft and now Half Life 2's steam software.
I was wanting to test the free trail of WOW and it needs to test my net speed, but it wont work nor does the updates for steam. I can connect no problems to the net with my browsers.
Though my security software updates itself just fine.
Any Ideas?

Thanks

I ve recently had to reinstall windows xp on my dell as there was an unrepairable error with the xp operating system that could only be fixed by a fresh install and cleaning the entire hard drive I installed windows without a problem and all the onboard drivers for the motherboard however when i came to install my X-Fi Soundcard i haven t encountered several errors and i just can t find anyway of fixing the problem The strange thing Titanium Installation X-Fi for Issues is before i reinstalled windows i had this soundcard working perfectly for over a year First of Installation Issues for X-Fi Titanium all when i was installing the software drivers from the cd onto the hard drive the installation froze at Installation Issues for X-Fi Titanium at updating windows system files So i had to close the installation and remove the parts that it did put on the hard drive using a registry cleaner I then tried another install and this time i did it in safe mode which in this case allowed everything to install without any crash and finished the installation and asked me to restart When i restarted the control panel icon was in the bottom right but there was no sound When i double clicked it it stated there was no audio device present How was this possible when i had got my soundcard in my pci express port And before this question is asked no i don t have my onboard sound enabled and the drivers for it were uninstalled When i went onto the sound devices window it had the X-Fi soundblaster logo under the sound device however when i clikced onto its properties there was no way of changing the system volume it only had options for inputs volumes and levels and i don t think even these were working correctly Under the codecs tab in sound the X-Fi driver was present The thing that confuses me about this whole situation is that before i reinstalled windows i had this soundcard working for over a year Why has it stopped working now A hardware error but it was working literally a few days ago just before i had the windows blue screen error which i believe is completely unrelated to the soundcard Or is this a software issue Is there some missing files that i need on my machine before i install this soundcard This problem is really driving me insane if you can help me out you d be doing me a big favour If you need anymore information on this situation i can tell you more Please help me i want to listen to my music again nbsp

A:XP installation issues, a saga.

Option one; if you know what folder the second install is to such as your original install is C:\Windows and the second is C:\Winnt or C:\winxp then you boot to the original install and then you delete the folder the second install is in and then you go to start / run and type MSCONFIG and hit enter and on the boot.ini tab click "Check all boot paths"
It will discover the missing copy and remove it from the boot.ini file and it will no longer be there.
If unsure where your second version installed, then go to control panel => system => advanced => startup and recovery => settings => system startup and click the edit button .
You will see the boot.ini file
It will look like this
[boot loader]
timeout = 30
default = multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

but will have an extra line there for the second version.
See how this says \Windows ? well there should be a second entry with \Something else.
If unsure , highlight all the text there and copy it and past it here.
Someone will tell you where the other copy installed.

I posted this on another site but have not yet received a response so I figured I'd try posting it here as well Here is the original post and replies on SSD Ultimate New Installation with 64-bit W7 Issues Okay so I just bought this Intel SSD and a nice OEM copy of Windows Ultimate -bit for my friend The computer Installation Issues on New SSD with W7 64-bit Ultimate is currently running on an i with gigs of corsair RAM and a Diamond Radeon HD X which at the Installation Issues on New SSD with W7 64-bit Ultimate moment is loading on a gb seagate with XP -bit So the general Installation Issues on New SSD with W7 64-bit Ultimate fact that the computer is working under these circumstances which is also allowing me to post here at the moment leads me to believe that all of these components are functioning properly I am even able to access the SSD while booting off this other harddrive However when I boot from the Windows disk and do a fresh install deleting and formatting any and all partitions on the SSD and starting from scratch the installation gets to the point where it says quot completing installation quot which appears after restarting once I believe and then after that it goes to the windows logo screen After the logo screen the G keyboard lights up and says G which tells me that it's loaded to something however the monitor says quot entering power save mode quot and turns off Basically there is no signal going to the monitor Now I'm not able to tell if the computer actually froze at this point or is just no longer sending a video signal If this were a problem with the graphics card wouldn't it also be apparent with what I'm doing now booting XP from the other drive At this point in the installation process I've tried booting into the SSD with safe mode which works BUT it tells me that it can't complete the setup process in safe mode and that it will restart so it can continue I tried Advanced Boot options like the low graphics mode and some diagnostic mode Neither worked So naturally I tried deleting partitions and reformatting and reinstalling windows about two more times both with the same result however on the second time it actually froze on the quot completing installation quot screen So right now I'm at a loss as to how I should proceed It doesn't look like the SSD is faulty since it's brand new and shows the so far installed windows files on it while viewing it from this other boot So I'd like to avoid an RMA until I can be sure of the problem Unfortunately I don't have access to another video card to try in the computer and the motherboard doesn't have on-board video so that's out If anyone has any idea what I should try next that would be as simple and pain-free as possible please let me know I'm hoping this is something very simple and stupid that I'm just not thinking of - Alright so it happened again I install Windows and after it restarts to load in logo comes up and then bam the monitor is no longer receiving signal It almost seems like it's sitting at some screen waiting for me to do stuff but obviously that's not gonna happen if I can't see the damn thing - Something interesting that I noticed I loaded into the windows disk and tried a repair and it had the drive listed as D rather than C for some reason Although it found no problems and is still not working I see no way upon creating a fresh install to set the drive letter is this possible Also I have the other drive unplugged at the moment so the SSD is the only one on I don't see any reason it would have set it as D Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

A:Installation Issues on New SSD with W7 64-bit Ultimate

Is your XP64 on the same drive as your Win7 x64? I know seperate partitions, but it sounds like thers a problem with the MBR(master boot record) and windows 7 is unable to load the drivers it needs.

Image and try installing Windows 7 on the SSD by itself.

EDIT The problems below are still out-standing but before I can work on any of them I need to get my computer to actually start - see thread WinXP: issues hal.dll re-installation and in the Hardware section here EDIT Above problem has been fixed which solved half of this problem in the process see above link I ll leave this one open for now in case anyone has any clever WinXP: hal.dll and re-installation issues ideas for making the WinXP re-install less painful but the really serious part of this problem is solved OK I had some issues previously which I asked about here I got a lot of good ideas but none worked so I WinXP: hal.dll and re-installation issues ended up re-installing Windows XP So does anyone know any way to get Windows to automatically re-recognize my installed programs or do I have to re-install manually reconfigure the Registry for that to happen And if the latter why on earth do people treat re-installing Windows as if it s trivial This is a massive pain Anything at all that makes this easier would be very very much appreciated EDIT cont d - problem below is solved by reformatting the disk and re-re-installing Windows More importantly my problems don t seem to quite be fixed This is really really weird - I still get the hal dll error message unless I have the Windows XP Setup disk in the drive and simply don t press any key to boot from the CD-rom Having any other disk or no disk in or booting from the HDD first with or without the Setup disk all result in the hal dll error What on earth does that mean Any help there would be appreciated nbsp
