I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i dont know if this helps but i had trouble with the volume on my keypad and it turned out to be a seperate surround speaker system on the computer needed switching on. i dont know if you have extra speakers fitted but i would try turning dial on the switch if you do. if not sorry other than trying the volume on the task bar is not on mute i have no idea.

First off, I hope this is in the proper sub-forum. If not, then I apologize in advance.

Anyhow, last night I installed Windows 7 with the upgrade disc I received from HP, and everything went smoothly. It is the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit edition. The only "issue" I've had is that the volume light on the laptop is now constantly red. It's usually white when the volume is on and red when muted, and you can toggle it by tapping it with your finger. This action still does toggle volume/mute, but the color remains red.

It's a very minor problem, I know, but it would be nice to have it returned to the way it's supposed to be. If anyone has any ideas on the situation, your help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion, and the volume control is on the keyboard. This is fine, except that half the time it doesn't appear to work. I have to restart to get it to work again. Any ideas?

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7, and I have a problem with the volume control; not that it's not working correctly, but that it is.

Volume control on a dv6 is done through a touch-sensitive panel above the keyboard. This is the only way to change the volume using your fingers (there's no other buttons on the keyboard that have that function).
The problem is that there's no way to change the volume without switching to another window, alt+tab style. If I'm playing a game or a maximized movie, changing the volume immediately switches out of the game window or un-maximizes the movie window. Just changing the volume is a huge pain.

Does anyone know of any patches or fixes that change this?

I just recently purchased this laptop on Amazon, and when received, I noticed that the volume tends to fluctuate on it's own without me doing anything. It is most noticeable when playing music on Spotify and on some games. I have looked everywhere to an answer for this problem and have not found one that works yet. This computer is equipped with beatsaudio, but it is through Realtek.

Things I've tried that have not worked:

Updating sound card drivers to latest versions

Disabling beatsaudio

Going to Enhancements tab in the Playback devices Properties settings. (There is no Enhancements tab)

Setting the Communications tab under Sound to "do nothing"

Hello! My girlfriend bought a laptop yesterday and she is trying to get her headset to work. The sound works she can hear everything perfectly but the microphone either it doesn't work at all or the voulme is really low. Its one jack for the headset a combined one.she tried a headset with usb and it worked fine. any suggestions? the record devices is set to 100% volume I was thinking maybe it's something with skype but she checked those settingsbtw the warranty and the return warranty doesn't end just because you uninstall and install new audio drivers doest it? that would be really weird because I wanted her to try that to see if that works. Is there any kind of settings we should check?

So, i have reinstalled my laptop, installed all the driver and etc, sounds had working great, but because i thought "This is beats audio it's a shame if i didn't used it's full potential" i installed the beats driver. At first i didn't notice it, i gone to play Skyrim but the intro sound seems to be a bit odd, then i decided to exit and open the Groove Music and play songs, AND THIS is where i know Something is wrong. I usually play EDM-genre Music, and at the beats drop it seemed odd, the volume is shrinking, but when it's on an slow part it's volume went up again. I Tried using other songs and every song has the same problem, how do i fix this?Information:- i have tried using the fix where you change the frequency of the audio and it did not fix the issue- i'm using 6.0.1.7548 Rev.A driver (sp7341)

I have a HP Pavilion DV6-7080ee. From day one, the sound volume level is heard to be contunally changing when listening to music. No amount of adjustment seem to improve this awful effect. I see that other users on this board are complaining of exactly the same problem so I've posted this so that hopefullt HP can see that its affecting a range of their devices - if they do read this ? Ive tried all the suggestions so far, e.g. Disabling beats, adjusting the "space", using the "Movie" mode, reinstalling drivers (both via Recovery tools and manually) etc...but as with all the other owners, the improvement is not 100% Please HP can you please try to get to the bottom of this.

@alwend Hi,Perform a Hard Reset:1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards.2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 1 minute.3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (do not connect the battery), press the Power button and check is your problem solved or not.

Hey there,

I've tried all the normal things - online troubleshooting through Dell and Windows (running 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium), plus updating drivers, uninstall/reinstall device, checking through media software settings (VLC, iTunes) - and cannot seem to figure out why my LEFT speaker is playing at what sounds like 10-20%, versus the RIGHT one playing at 100%. No major update or change predated this issue. Simple Windows Update stuff, but I purposely don't let Windows touch my "manufacter" drivers etc.

Anyone with a clue as to what else I can try?

THANKS!

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

So I have a Blue Yeti and I'm an online animator voice actor Whenever I record audio on my Blue Yeti OR any other mic I record about - inches from the mic and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as I yell or whatever This is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted However afterwards it means I have really quite recordings Not a problem right Now that it's recorded right I can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right WRONG I'm not an audio expert so I must be missing something But why in GODS NAME would the audio distort and peak AFTER it's recorded successfully It's all there it's all clean audio If I turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds CRYSTAL distorts increasing volume Blue Recording Yeti, audio volume Soft with CLEAR All I want to do is do that INSIDE the computer so that when I upload it to youtube people don't have to turn their speakers so far up But if I increase the clips volume in the computer it distorts It sounds awful Why I tried in Sony Acid and Audacity and they both do the same thing Why Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio I seriously don't understand what I'm missing here I can take sound effects and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud but mine just fall apart If anyone understands audio stuff please tell me what I'm doing wrong

A:Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

I have a home recording studio using Sonar X1 software.

I don't know about Acid, but it should allow clean recordings. Audacity the same way.

I record, generally, in the -10 level with my recording program, at 24 bits/44.1 Khz. At -10, I have plenty of headroom and can then adjust the levels after the recordings and at mixdown. I export the mix as a standard 16 bit/44.1Khz wav file and then "finalize" whatever I want to do to the song, including levels, with "Goldwave" (an audio editior).

I assume you are converting the audio to MP3? If that is the case, that may be where the distortion is occuring? I find that 128Kb MP3's are very poor and at a minimum use 198 Kb MP3's.

Have an external USB hard drive caddy with a naked Raptor drive sitting in it which has one partition that is the entire capacity of the Raptor drive...this is an 'active' volume.
1. Can someone tell me if I delete the volume under Computer Management>Disk Management>Delete Volume will this return it to being an 'inactive' volume?
2. Also can you tell me after deletion will I need to initialise the drive in the usual way like when one installs a new drive in a PC?
3. Upon reboot will Windows just offer to initialise it within Disk Management?

I want it to just be a simple, basic, single partition drive just for data backup. In past it was my OS drive which is when it was made an active volume. Using W7/64bit professional.

I have a truecrypt encrypted volume which is my entire hard drive.  This contains the windows OS and my files(one of many backed up encrypted copies).  I would now like to implement a 2nd truecrypt volume inside this present truecrypt volume.  Truecrypt calls this a hidden volume.  The idea is that at boot-up, you can use one of two passwords.  The one you choose dictates which (the primary or the hidden) volume.  The easy way to do this is to do it when first creating both truecrypt volumes but I did not realize I wanted to create this hidden volume until now.  All of the instructions I have seen require you to dismount the encrypted volume which will host the hidden volume first.  However I can't do that because I need that volume decrypted in order to run the truecrypt software which performs the function.

Any ideas other than decrypting the encrypted volume and starting from scratch?

I have an HP f2105 21" monitor running on Windows 7 x64. Recently the Volume Icon keeps appearing on my screen, and automatically increases the volume to 100%. I have not made any significant changes in my operating system. The Icon stands in front of all other screens and cannot be dismissed. It quits when it's ready after a few seconds. It pops up every 3-4 minutes or so. My drivers are up to date. I've tried disconnecting the monitor and reconnecting it. Turning it off and on, etc. So far nothing has helped.

Hello melb1946Does your keyboard have volume buttons? I know in my experiences I have sometimes run into similar scenarios. In my case the problem was accidentally hitting the volume button on my keyboard. How is your sound setup in Windows 7? Is your monitor set as the default sound device? Do other sound devices increase their volumes?Probably one of the best ways to isolate the problem would be to put the monitor on another computer and see if the sound continues to appear and go up.

A:Scanning and repairing volume (\\?\Volume...) on startup

The problem you are seeing could be caused by the Win8 "fastboot" feature. Disable fastboot and see if that fixes the problem. It can occur on dual boot and other multi partition configurations.

Hello sevenforums,
I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.

First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.

A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Hello, Ten Forums!

I was wondering whether it were possible to open the volume mixer instead of the volume control when left-clicking on the volume icon in the tray. At the moment I have it set to open the old classic menu, but not the volume mixer.

So, is it possible?

Thanks.

A:Very quiet volume although all (?) volume controls are maxed.

As you say the sound over your TV is excellent, there is almost certainly nothing wrong with the performance of your on-board sound. Without seeing them, am I right in thinking that you take a lead from the audio out at the back of your computer to the speakers, and their internal amplifier drives the sound output ?  If so, and this may be very silly, is this lead plugged into the correct socket at the back of the computer ?

Failiing that, see if you can borrow some speakers from a friend, any speakers at all will do. This will enable you to determine if the problem is with your speakers or the sound output.

A:Volume mixer becomes unresponsive when I change volume

The G35 headsets I found, doing a search, are 7.1 surround sound headphones, USB connected and with a volume control in the headset cable. Is this what you have? If it is you should apparently be controlling the volume from the headset's volume control and not the PC???

Hello everyone! I run Windows 8.1, and have been having a strange issue lately. A reformat and fresh install did nothing to help this.

Seemingly at random, in my volume mixer, specific programs will drop to 10% level. If I turn the volume all the way back up, it'll only go back down a bit later. I've tried this with / without my realtek drivers. Also, I've set the option under "Communications" in playback devices to "Do nothing", and this still hasn't helped. Any VoIP programs I use I've turned off ducking, and yet the problem still persists.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

So I recently moved my microphone/headset plugs to the rear jacks of my computer, the reason I did this was because when plugged in to the front jacks, my microphone had a white noise I couldn't get rid of, the rear jacks doesn't have this issue, but my mic volume is quiet

I think it might be a driver issue? I know its not my mic because when plugged in the front, people can hear my voice fine but there's just static noise too, and it's sort of loud

A:Microphone Volume is quiet, even at maximum volume

More PC info is needed. Including what sound and sound driver you have.

The front panel jacks are just an extension of the sound jacks. Usually if there is problem, the front do not work correctly but the read does. Are you plugging the mic into the correct Pink jack? If it were plugged into the wrong jack that can happen.

A:will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

mmmm....actually i've had a very similiar problem....not quite sure how i fixed it though. Try updating your drivers for your soundcard, that might help. Also(obviously) go into control panel, and mess with things from there. Also, do you have any errors with any sound drivers of any kind? i know if....kind of nuke some of mine(stupid me) with an anti-adware program....if you have that could be part of the prob, and those usually aren't to hard to fix, just take a little time.

the problem is that when xp pro was newly installed to the sata raid0, the system volume was placed on c: (wd160gb primary ide).
as soon as i remove the c: drive (mobile rack), and power up, ntldr cannot be found (presumably because windows is looking for a drive that is not there)
i have moved the system files to the sata raid0 and adjusted boot.ini, but this does not help.

how do i move the system volume onto the sil sata raid0 so that i could boot without any other partition? is this possible without re-installing?

I've been having a problem recently with my volume on my laptop, a HP M6-1125dx. I have noticed that slowly over the course of a few days I have to keep turning the volume up higher and higher to have the same volume come out of the speakers. I used to consistantly be able to keep my volume around 15, but now I''m having to turn it up to 40 or 50 after a few days. It goes back to normal after a restart though (even a 'soft' restart) and then blows out my ears because either I've forgotten to turn it down before restarting or windows did it to me automatically.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I have no idea where I should start since I couldn't find info of anyone having a similar problem.

Hi everyone I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD s or MP files with Windows Media Player I had the volume turned all the way up Player controls Player control ? Volume volume also Real Media in Media player and Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ? also in Realtek HD Audio Manager but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before I recently un-installed quot Discover stream hub Discover exe quot and thought that this might have had something to do with it but that does not seem to be the case I decided to try to play an mp file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer the mp files sounded normal again plenty of volume What surprised me is that if I close Realplayer with it s volume control turned up then open the MP with Medial player it will sound normal in media player plenty of volume If I turn the volume control in Real player all the way down close it then play a file with Media Player there will be no sound at all Somehow the volume control for Realplayer is effecting and overriding the volume control for Media Player Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this might be happening Has anyone else ever experienced this type of thing It s not a big deal now that I found out what was going on but tracking down problems like this can drive you nuts It seems crazy that the volume control from one program would control the other I m just wondering what might be going on I m using Windows XP Media Center Edition SP On an HP Pavilion a on computer Thanks John nbsp

A:Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ?

Hi John

The reason that this happens is that when you change the volume in real player, it changes the 'Wave' volume for the whole system. I don't pretend to know too much about this but basically, real player changes part of the system volume which also affects the volume in media player. To see this for yourself, open Real Player and then go into Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices under control panel. Click on Advanced Volume Controls under the 'See Also' heading on the left. There should be a column labelled 'Wave'. If you now change the volume in Real Player, you will see this changing also. As a result, it changes the volume system wide. Hope this solves your confusion.

I just got a new ac11 sound bar.
It is impossible to adjust sound volume using its volume knob.
But I am able to adjust sound volume with the windows volume control widget.
My OS is windows 7 .

I tried my ac511 on another laptop, the volume knob works well.So I guess the hardware is all right.
Could anyone help me with this?
Thanks very much!

A:AC511 SOUND BAR,could not adjust sound volume with volume knob

Based on your tests, the AC511 hardware is ok.* Turn the comptuer and monitor off* Mount the AC511 to the monitor slots after removing the plastic strips* Plug the AC511 USB cable + USB extension cable directly into the Windows 7 computer USB port* Turn the monitor on, then the computer* Re-test

Running Windows XP. My volume icon disappeared and the computer no longer makes sounds and I can not hear online applications like You Tube.

If I download a file I can play it back and hear it just fine and I can play items in Windows Media, Quick Time, Real Audio, etc.

I have checked the volume tab in the control panel so the problem is more complicated then that. I can not find the original disk to reinsert the driver. This is a dell inspiron 9400 and I have SigmaTel and the troubeshooting tells me there is nothing wrong with it.

I have run all my virus scans and Malware programs.

Any ideas.

Hi there from another site

Quote:

1) Go into Control Panel -> Programs > Programs & Features and find the "Conexant HD Audio Driver" program ? uninstall it.
2) Restart the machine (Note that you will have no sound at initial startup).

Give it a try, you shouldnt have any sound till you login and it should install a new audio driver.

Let us know if it makes any difference, if not another option is to find a newer driver on their site and install it.

I think I've successfully installed truecrypt on my back up media HDD. I chose the option to make an Outer volume & also a Hidden volume.

Apparently both were created successfully, but I can't seem to locate the Hidden volume to add files to it? I've entered both passwords correctly & I can see the main Outer volume when the disk is mounted, but I don't see where the hidden volume is or how to create a new folder within the hidden volume?

Don't mount the outer volume. Enter your password for the inner volume only.

Ok so I am currently running Windows VIsta Home Premium. Recently I lost my volume in my toolbar, by the clock. I am kinda computer savvy (as in i just got my vista cert. and am i my first year of OS) but i cant figure out how to get it back. I tried to right click and add it but it is grey and unclickable. I've tried searching "Volume Mixer" and nothing came up. I know I still have it because I am running it on a laptop with touch volume control.

I believe I might have downloaded and uninstalled a program which in turn took my volume with it

Can yall help me out?

Hello,

For the last few months, I have been noticing a volume box appear on the top right side of my monitor. This randomly happens, I don't touch any buttons. It doesn't happen everyday, but when it does, it keeps popping continuously or pops up once and stops. I am worried that my computer maybe hacked, is this function possible for the hacker to do? I am not sure if someone else has control over my computer or I am just paranoid.

Thank you,

I have been trying to help my niece who has Windows 95 find out what happened to her volume. Her sister-in-law was trying to get the printer to work and totally wiped out everything on it. She had to reinstall Windows 95 and now there is no sound. It says there is no sound cards installed. I was told to come here to get an answer and that I neede to install the driver for the sound card. Where do I find the driver.
I have done all I know to do, being I am fairly new to computers. Is there any one who can help me. I posted on the "All About Windows Forum" and no help. Thank you.

Hey everyone. I've been having troubles with my windows volume control. I'm currently running SB Live! Audigy. I also have an onboard sound card (ac97 realtek, it is disabled). Even if I crank up the volume all teh way up, both main and Wave, it is still relatively quiet, especially since Im wearing headphones, and maximum volume should literally deafen me. So I thought it was the soundcard. I removed teh drivers and reinstalled them. Nothing. So I disabled SB Live! (I actually removed it from the computer altogether) and reenabled my onboard soundcard in BIOS. Same thing - volume too quiet. It's definitely not an issue with power shortage - I have 450watt psu. I think the problem started when I accidentally started Windows with both soundcards enabled. Anyone knows a registry key I need to delete in order to reset the volume control? Any help is welcomed.
Thank you!.

I have a strange problem with xp. When I try to adust the volume of my speakers, using either control panel or the keyboard, I can either set the volume all the way up or completely down. When I try to set the sliders inbetween, they just move up again all by themselves.

When I use the keyboard buttons, the green image stays on my screen until I reboot.

Admittedly, I am using very cheap speakers that pick up am radio. But I don't see how the speaker's quality (or lack therof) has anything to do with the control panel.

Thanks in advance for any help!

A:Volume -- all or nothing

Sounds as though the keyboard buttons may be stuck. Try your volume with a different keyboard, one with no buttons, and use only Windows to adjust and see if that solves your problem. I have seen some keyboards with extra buttons go bad and do what you have trouble with. If not, then some software is over-writing your volume. I mean, that maybe a "player" (ex:Winamp) has taken control of the volume settings.

Ok, I installed the drivers and everything as I've done several times.

The first time I did it I had the same problem, and I searched online and found out that I had to type something in "run" under start. I forgot what to type in there, whatever it is, it gets into some sort of advanced control for the sound on the computer. In the advanced control or whatever it's called, I changed some sort of input device or something like that. Then my mic was backto normal volume and everything...

So does anyone know of any type of command to type in start > run to get into any audio control panel or w/e. Like the properties section.

A:Mic volume is very low

This is a website that will provide you with run command options: http://www.ontechnews.com/computer-tips/shortcuts/useful-run-commands-for-windows-vista-and-xp/

I think the one you may be asking about referencing your particular issue would be:mmsys.cpl
When accessing this command it takes you to the Sounds and Audio Devices>Properties
>Advanced This will take you to a screen that has a tab that reads Options. After clicking on the options You will then click on properties. This will provide an area in which you can adjust the microphone volume.

A little something for the more learned of us:

For awhile now, I've noticed a very strange thing happening the volume of sound, both when gaming and just listening to music. When I turn the knob on the speakers, the volume will sometimes continue to rise or decrease, and I'll have to quickly turn the knob the other way. Sometimes, it will even get louder or quieter without even touching the knob. I've fooled around with the volume controls and things of that nature: even reinstalled the drivers for my soundcard. To no avail!

Could this be a faulty soundcard? I've had it for close to two years. Possibly a driver thing? OS thing? Speaker thing? I have no idea.

I'm at the end of my string here. Desperately attacking the volume knob to avoid awaking the parents has caused more than one death in UT 2003 : P

Thanks in advance!

A:Volume Changes

Well, if it is more likely when changing the volume, it is almost certainly due to the speakers, as the computer has no way of knowing the speaker volume.

Not quite sure how to fix the problem, however. If the speakers are cheap, you might consider just getting a new pair.

I'm having a problem with my mic volume. One day i decided to adjust it and make it a bit lower because some people in a PC game were saying it was a bit high. So i did and lowered it to about half way. After i was done i shut my computer off. The next day i came back on and i noticed that my mic volume was all the way up, but it still sounded like when i put it half way. This gets repeated every time i adjust it and restart my comp. It gets lower and lower and lower and i cant seem to put it up high enough for people to hear me. Please help.

A:My Pc Volume=(

I don't know why that would happen unless there were a "dontsavesettings" policy in the registry -- and I'm not sure if that would apply to the sound settings at all. If you had it, other user settings would not be retained as well.

But run regedit and have a look at the keys below to see if the policy is in force:

http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/152/

What sound card do you have? Some provide the ability to save "profiles" for different settings which can be loaded on every boot. Perhaps you have created one and don't know it exists -- or could create one to resolve the problem.
