Solved: Windows Vista / ACER Erecovery issues!!!!

Q: Solved: Windows Vista / ACER Erecovery issues!!!!

I have an Acer Aspire 9815WKHI Laptop running Windows Vista Ultimate. Most of the time when i start my laptop it goes through the BIOS and POST as normal but when it gets to loading Windows it stays as a black screen.

About a week ago i tried an Acer Erecovery to do a System Factory Restore but it failed and I had to do a hard reboot. Since then I have had major problems, it seemed to have wiped the systems from 2 External Hard Drives and it is having the startup problem. It wont let me do a system recovery or a factory restore.

Can someone please help me and also work out why it is wiping the External Hard Drives system.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Always unplug usb devices from pc when installing an os.

when finished with your recovery then proceed with hooking up your externals

Hi,

I got my laptop (Acer Travelmate 6292) with Windows Business Vista installed. At one point the SP2 was downloaded and installation was started. Then I ran into what appears to be a typical bug for Vista; the system gets stuck in a loop and keeps on shutting down and restarting, every time it gets to the screen "configuring updates: stage 3 out of 3, 75% complete, do not turn off your computer".

As I don't have the DVD, I cannot do the Windows-repair. I tried to do a restore through Acer eRecovery, but when pressing Alt+F10 at the white ACER BIOS screen, the system just continues starting up and ignores the command.

Can someone help to get out of the loop, without having to use the Windows-dvd? Preferably by just setting the system back to an earlier configuration that worked, but other solutions are welcome too.

A:Windows Vista loop and Acer eRecovery

Woodstar,

Windows Vista Business SP2 is around 435MB, and takes some time to install. Especially with the mobile processor. Is there a chance that it's just working away in the background?

Can you get to the Desktop without it throwing you out and rebooting? If so; Check for updates on Windows Update.
Click Start , click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.
In the navigation pane, click Check for updates.
After Windows Update has finished checking for updates, click View available updates.
Click to select the check boxes for the updates that you want to install, and then click Install.

Note; If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or provide confirmation.

Hello,

I brought an Acer Aspire 3003LC with WinXP preloaded.
I brought it to try out Linux and are having fun with Ubuntu at the moment.
I removed the second 20gig ACERDATA partition as it was empty (I thought) to make room for Linux.
But I see now that eRecovery from eManager still tries to use this parition so the laptop slows when ever it tries.
My question is, how do I totally disable eRecovery? as I can do my own backups. Guess I should have done this before I removed the ACERDATA partition, ah? but didnt know about this feature.

Thanks

A:Solved: Acer eRecovery

Actually, may have solved this one.
I disabled check.exe using msconfig as it belongs to the Acer backup Manager which I do not require.
I can concentrate on learning Linux now!

You need to get into the bios. You need to change the boot order to the CD drive. (one of the screens in the bios should have a way to set the boot from cd to the #1 spot. Once you do this the recovery cd's will work.

Is there any way to get the eRecovery management or could someone else maybe sort me out with this?

Hi,
A warm hello to all members of this forum.

Recently, I got an Acer z5610 AllInOne computer.
Everything is installed and working fine.
The problem I have now, is that I need to install a second hard drive(64 bit SSD)

I opened the case, installed the drive, and windows recognised it immediately.

Now I want to change the system from old HDD to the new SSD. Is there a shortcut? Acer eRecovery doesn't seem to support system drive change.

Thanks in advance!

Hello ethanasi, welcome to Seven Forums!

Before we make any specific recommendations will you please post a snip/screen-shot of the entire disk management drive map with a full description as to which drive/partition is which, so we can see what you have going.

In the Windows start menu right click computer and click manage, in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window that opens click disk management and post a snip of that.

Be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

I've used the installed Acer Erecovery backup program regularly when prompted by the application.
After the last backup all backup points has disappeared - it shows no backup points exist
Prior to this backup there were a number of points shown by the log.
The D data drive is about 1/3 full

As far as Acer goes my laptop dies not exist so I can't email their support site.
Could you suggest what I can do to access these points please?

Any help greatfully accepted.

Although there has been no response so far can I add some more info here?
Looking at drive D there is a hidden folder: erData.
In a sub folder there is one call Images. This clearly holds all the backup files, date stamped over the life time of my machine.

I've tried Acer support but there is no way of posting a question since the site all revolves around current machines.
Any suggestions please?

hi. i'm just confused about one of the options of the acer erecovery management,
the "restore operating system and retain user data" option. i'm thinking of
using it actually.

my current OS is windows7. originally, my OS was vista. there is also a backup OS for windows vista in my laptop (the one in the hidden partition).

i just want to ask: if i use the "restore operating system and retain user data"
option, will i be able to retain and use my windows7? and not the vista?

thanks... hoping for an immediate reply.

A:acer erecovery management

If your recovery partition has vista and you have win7 now on the system partition, I doubt you'll be able to use the erecovery options at all. Even if they work, they'll restore vista. If you ever want to restore vista, you'll probably need to mark the recovery partition active, then boot to it.

Once you overwrite with another OS, recovery partitions dont really make too much sense. Best strategy is to first backup an image of the current OS, then reinstall the new OS. That gives you a painless way of reverting to the earlier OS.

Hi and welcome.
If the 'built in eRecovery partition' is damaged in some way - you will never be able to restore it to factory settings.
Your only option may be to use a UBS Dvd drive and re-install Win 7.
Dvd drive similar to ones shown here.

I ordered a "Recovery Disc" and a "System Disc" for my "Acer Aspire M1100". The discs loaded correctly (I believe so). The "Acer eRecovery Management" is the problem, it has been loading for 6 hours now. Is this normal ? If not what can I do to fix this issue?

Windows Vista Home Basic
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 4000+ 2.60ghz
3327 MB RAM
32 -bit Operating System

Thank you for any help.

A:Acer eRecovery Management

"Normal" to me means to use a Recovery disk to "recover" the computer's operating system to factory default condition. Is that what you did with the new Recovery disk? If not, what?

What is the System Disc? What does it contain or do?

What are you trying to do with the Acer eRecovery Management? (Whatever you are doing 6 hours does not sound normal.)

I'm running Acer eRecovery v7.7.8 with recovery disks. Having run smoothly, it has been on 98% for about half an hour. Is there something wrong or is it at some naturally slow part of the recovery process?

Thanks.

A:Acer eRecovery slow

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Recovery from discs is always slower than using the on board recovery partition, but it shouldn't take more than two or three hours from start to finish when using discs.

Give it a bit longer as it can take some time to configure the files.

This is a beaut after a string of fluke circumstances I had to order Acer's eRecovery disks I had to install Windows on a new drive They consist of System disk Recovery disks and a language disk I booted off of the system disk and made it through most of the third recovery disk when the power got interrupted I wasn't sure how smart the set up program was Would it pick up where it left off or would I need to just start over and let it wipe out what I had done so far It didn't pick up where it left off Rebooting with either the recovery eRecovery Disks Acer disk as the boot device Acer eRecovery Disks or off of the hard drive resulted with the error Windows has failed to start Insert your Windows installation disk and restart your computer Select language and then Repair Acer eRecovery Disks your computer Unfortunately Acer's programmers don't allow you to do this I put in the original system disk that worked fine on the brand new empty drive However with the unfinished install the disk doesn't allow a re-install It says Please complete your operating system install before doing system recovery I can't What idiot at Acer doesn't allow for a failed install where a user can't start over With an empty drive it gave options from recovering the OS to doing a full factory install recovery but with a failed install it doesn't allow the option to wipe out what was done and start over It's absurd I'm going to boot from an Ubuntu DVD try to delete the files and see if the System Recovery will do an install like it did initially How can a company release a product so poorly implemented I guess they figure a Windows install never fails

A:Acer eRecovery Disks

Update: I booted the PC with Ubuntu and deleted the files, hoping the system install program would start again but it must be checking for hidden system files because I still got the message "Please complete your operating system install before doing system recovery". Unbelievable. I posted this on a YouTube video posted by Acer Support on eRecovery since trying to contact them on phone or email seems difficult. They always require my serial number and when i enter it I am told my machine is no longer under warranty.

I have an Acer Aspire 5253-BZ660. It was running slow so I reformatted the hard drive. I've used both the recovery discs and the recovery partition and on both when it gets to the Clear.fi program it freezes. I mean I've left the computer on overnight and when I wake up it's still there. I was able once to get out of the erecovery and use Windows 7 but I can't get it to do it again.
Is there anyway I can get out of the erecovery and just use my computer?

I've used both the recovery discs and the recovery partition << I think you should try one or the other and not both - Do they both stall on the same item ?Hi -http://www.acer.com/clearfi/download/ << Link for Clear.fi Zip file download if this helps -You may be able to download the Zip file in Safe Mode with Networking, or transfer it to your Acer with a USB drive -Good Luck -

A:Cannot get Acer eRecovery to recognize a new HD

Try wiping the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command from the Win7 installer or System Repair Disk accessing DISKPART At PC Startup.

If this fails, wipe it again and this time format it NTFS Primary marked Active using Step 2.2 in SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation.

If this fails make sure HD registers in BIOS setup, reset BIOS to defaults and try again. Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Did you make the Recovery Disks. If so use them. If not try making them now. You can also order them from Acer Tech Support.

Or find a Win7 retail installer to clean reinstall with the Product Key on COA sticker which is a superior install. Details in Perfect Install link below in my signature.

A:Acer eRecovery Management glitch

90GB of data on your C: drive? It certainly is "clogged up"!

If you want to 'start afresh' with a clean installation of XP you need to do a recovery from the backup partition which should be on a hidden partition on your C: drive.

Here is the standard Acer Recovery Instructions:

1. Power on the machine
2. At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the “Alt” key and press the “F10” key simultaneously to start Acer eRecovery
3. Once eRecovery has loaded, click “Restore to Factory Default Settings”
4. Click “OK” to continue
5. From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
6. Once eRecovery has run, press “OK” to reboot unit.

IMPORTANT!

Back up all your user files (Documents, Pictures etc) to the D: drive before doing the factory recovery because everything on C: drive will be overwritten with new data!

If you then want to create a backup image on to a hard drive you'll have to use a third-party disk-imaging application as even the current version of Acer eRecovery is unable to do that.

So, I bought an Acer 5742 with Windows 7 last month, and I have reason to believe I was attacked by a virus.

Losing hope, I try using the 4 recovery disks GeekSquad gave me when I bought the computer.
I choose the option to restore my computer to factory defaults while backing up my personal files.

Everything goes smoothly up until the "updating system" part. According to the time-elapsed, it's been 10 hours since its been frozen on 99% (still on Disc 3 of the 4). I'm going to put in Disc 4 and leave it for another couple hours while I go to school.

If I don't see any changes, I'm going to force a shut down and reboot the computer.

Will this harm my computer, and possibly corrupt my system?

(also, I know it's only been 10 hours, but that's still pretty long for system recovery, don't ya think?)

Hi,

I'm trying to restore my Acer Aspire to factory settings and have run the eRecovery Management tool using the recovery discs I made when I got the laptop. Thanks in advance.

A:Acer eRecovery not completing reboot - stuck at 13/29

Have you made any partition changes to the original set up? When you do the Factory Restore, you must make sure that you have two partitions( C:system and D: Data).
The hidden partition should be left alone.

Ok so here's my problem...

I bought an acer aspire 1640z some time ago now and ive never once had a problem with it!

I now want to create a back up disk/disks to safetly have them to hand should anything go wrong, my problem is usuing empowering technology, ERecovery to be precise I click to make a back up image onto a disk, it asks me to insert either 5 cd's or 1 dvd disk and then i hit next, then everytime this error comes up!

Making BackupDisk1 needs Drive(:)
Space 700MB/4GB for CD/DVD

Now there isnt anything wrong with my disk drive i can still pay dvd's and games, and i can still write to dvd's and cd's.

Could it be my Empowering Technology Disk drive path registry files have become mixed up?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Acer eRecovery not working -- need fresh install

Can you post a screen shot of your disk management window? To get there, click start orb, right click computer, select manage, in the left pane select disk management. You should see all your drives and the hidden partition containing the OS that should say healthy (recovery partition).

Following my other thread about HomeGroup and wifi printing issues I took the advice of the seller of my new Acer Aspire E - - to reset to factory setting The user manual instructions he supplied did not correspond with my configurations so instead I took the Acer erecovery screen after Acer of Black Death erecovery route After a long night of backing up all the data on the computer it took several hours and DVDs following instructions for Acer erecovery Recovery Disc is back in the DVD player got the error message that windows cannot startup run can't recall exact message Not many Black screen of Death after Acer erecovery options so clicked ok on dialog box On bottom of screen a bright quot progress Black screen of Death after Acer erecovery bar quot looked like it is loading and then the laptop shuts itself off Waiting for it to turn back on but it did not DVD tray would not open so had to use the paper clip trick to open it thinking pushing Black screen of Death after Acer erecovery it in again would trigger some response Nothing The blue power light is on and the blue indicator to the left of it lights up for a second when I press hold power button but nothing else happens The screen is black as death and there is no sound indicating that anything is running How do I get this thing to quot wake up quot so that I can reinstall the material on the backup discs

After system restore with eRecovery following persistent malware infestation the system loads software to initial configuration. This process stalls at "Installing Office 2010....21/35" and I cannot bypass it. System reboots normally but this screen reappears and won't allow any other action like Task Manager to get by it. I don't need or want Office 2010 so how do I get around this?

Can you perform the eRecovery from within Windows? Some OEM's like Acer and Dell include this functionality via Windows under Start Menu.

Hi I don't know much about fixing computers and how to explain this so I'm just going to include everything acer gets in the Problem eRecovery way installing win7, that I've done about this problem I have an Acer Aspire laptop and wanted to change from Vista Basic bit to Windows Ultimate bit I put in the Win disc and did the whole installing process But when that was finish and Windows quot finalising quot it fades out and restarted then a File Not Found pop up saying quot cannot find file C Problem installing win7, acer eRecovery gets in the way D D Images WSI when try to determine UI language quot I clicked OKAY then it goes to Acer eRecovery Management with the message quot how would you like to restore quot I chose quot restore system to factory setting quot and I couldn't see it fast enough but there was a table grid saying something about Source Hard disk partition then another message pops up saying quot restore failed - reason xa quot click okay to restart So I restarted and try the other option which is restore system from CD DVD and was told to insert backup disk or system CD I don't have any of those or where do I find it I can't use my laptop now so I can't create a backup disk or whatever acer eRecovery wants Then when the Acer screen starts during startup I pressed F and go into boot Played around with the boot priority order to be able to run the Windows disc again and this is the order that boot up the cd for me Network Boot MBA v Slot USB CDROM IDE MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ QJ IDE Hitachi HTS K SA USB FDD USB HDD I don't know what the other ones does but I moved the 'network boot' up to st Pressed F save and exit enter to boot cd then installed Windows again I chose 'custom' for a clean install and was shown three partitions I don't know what they are until now but I only have a slight idea In the quot where would you like to install quot there are Disk Partition PQSERVICE size gb free space gb Disk Partition Acer C something along that line size gb free space gb Disk Partition D size gb free space gb The first time I install Win I chose Partition D drive because it's the only one with enough space left Then when it gets to the Acer eRecovery thing where it said something about Partition but it disappeared too quickly I thought maybe I should've choose Partition So on the Win Install Windows program I chose Repair your computer and check to see that Win is in my D drive and Vista is in my C drive When I went back to reinstall I formatted Partition my C drive to make room for the installation and have backup all my files on disc But same thing happened acer eRecovery gets in the way at the end and I can't go anywhere else Then I went back to quot repair your computer quot again in Windows Install thing to see that now Vista is gone and Windows has moved from D drive to C drive Does that mean that Windows is completely installed on my laptop but acer eRecovery is stopping me from using it I also went to quot command prompt quot and type in fixboot but it was quot not recognised quot Do I really need to restore If Windows is successfully installed why can't I just boot up my computer and use it Can I get pass this eRecovery thing Everything is in full screen so my laptop is pretty much useless now What do I need to do now Sorry for writing a tad too much S but that's what i tried so far Please help Thank you

Long story short, I edited the boot.ini file where I wasn't supposed to (On my Acer Aspire One AOA150), now I need to boot from the XP installation disk to use the recovery console to fix it, BUT when I boot from the XP Home Edition disk, it starts eRecovery.
What can I do to boot the disk instead of eRecovery, so I can rebuild my boot.ini?

Hi there So i have this desktop computer which i built from an old Acer Predator The only Hardware left from the old pc is the RAM and the HDD though I recently swapped motherboards I now have the MSI z -g and yesterday my pc started to prompt me with my windows not being genuine I tried to reenter my activation code without much luck I then watched a SP1 Boots Management to Win7x64 Acer eRecovery video on youtube which told me to download some software to fix the problem Considering the over k views and the overall positive comments i took a chance Now after ive run the software Open activator or Win7x64 SP1 Boots to Acer eRecovery Management something my pc continuisly boots to Acer eRecovery Management Ive tried to run the complete factory reset but the program seems to stop and the pc reboots automaticly while it is quot Updating System quot Then it boots up again and prompts me to reset my hdd once again Anyone know how to fix this Been considering just reinstalling windows but it would be nice if i could keep atleast the other partion of my hdd Thanks in advance

A:Win7x64 SP1 Boots to Acer eRecovery Management

first of all, you cannot use the operating system that came with acer, that is why it was declared non genuine. when you replaced the motherboard, you should have purchased a new os to be legal and genuine.

I have eRecovery discs for my Acer Veriton VZ4620G.
Disc #1 starts eRecovery Management and proceeds to "Select Restore Type", but I cannot get any further.
I have left-clicked and right-clicked on every option, but the only way I get any response is "Exit"
Then the cycle starts over.
The only drive listed in the Boot Menu is the DVD.
I would like to be able to retain user data, but anything is better han what I have now, which is nothing.
The thing just quit after running a one-time free AVG tune-up.
However, I am not faulting AVG, because I like their software. It is most likely something which I did, not the software.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

I am using the Acer eRecovery option to recover Windows 7 operating system. However when it reaches point of installing Office 2010 it freezes and does not move forward. Wanted to know if there is a way to get past this , even if I can bypass the Office 2010 install and complete the Windows OS install.

A:Acer eRecovery management for recovering operating system

I don't know if there is a way to get past the stalling, but you should be able to do a clean install of Windows 7 without using the eRecovery partition if you have a valid Certificate of Authenticity sticker containing a 25 character Product Key.

You'd end up with a fresh Windows installation without any of the other stuff Acer may have included--no Office, no extra stuff. Just Windows 7.

You'd need to download a Windows 7 ISO and burn it to a DVD or get it onto a USB thumb drive if you don't have a DVD burner.

Hi All,
I have a friend at work with an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop running Windows Vista Home Basic and AVG Free Version.
Vista is running so slow it’s not funny. IE: to open the pictures folder will take about 45 – 130 seconds and then to open each photo it will take up to 3 minutes.
The first thing I could find is it only has 512mb RAM shared with the graphics card so I have ordered 2 x 2GB DDR2 667MHz RAM Sticks for her.
I should get them Monday or Tuesday.
Is there anything I should be looking for that would slow vista down so bad?
The other thing is that Acer have split the 80Gb HDD into 2 x 35Gb Partitions, I was thinking of reformatting the HDD back to just 1 x 78Gb Partition.
Does anyone have any theories on this matter?
Thanks for your help and comments
Andrew

It sounds like hard drive....

However have you tried the following?....
1 Try and restore Acer to factory settings (start pc and ALT=F10). If hard drive hasn't melted this will access recovery partition.
2. Look for diagnostics within BIOS to see if you can check HDD
3. Are you able to boot via USB/External Drive, where you can run a chkdsk?

If all else fails and it's still in warranty....get them to look at it.

I've tried downloading a few programs, but they all seem to end with the same result. Once I try to open up the program using the shortcut, it says the item has been moved or changed so the shortcut will no longer work properly. I try opening it manually without using a shortcut, but I can't find it anywhere. The folder where it should have the software is empty.

I'm starting to get impatient, I've tried solving this problem on my own for a day and a half, and I'm going nowhere. Is it a problem with my Windows Installer?
Also, this problem only occured to me about a day or two ago.

This random action could be a failing battery on the Mobo (what looks like a coin). If the unit has some age to it this might be a simple first expense. Batteries do not last forever and some do fail from time to time.

Hi everyone i ve been having a lot of problems with my laptop I don t even know where to begin maybe from the beginning There was this time around or so days ago that i installed a thing?! to this fix a massive Isn't way issues with Solved: Acer there laptop certain program called Revo Uninstaller It let me remove residual files left by uninstalled software Best of all i thought at the time was the fact that Solved: Isn't there a way to fix this thing?! Acer laptop with massive issues it allowed me to delete registry keys added changed by the said software Soon my laptop started slowing down When it became critical i decided the best thing was to do a clean install of windows That was when the brown stuff hit the fan The laptop refused to boot from the disc Luckily i have a desktop computer so i opened up the laptop took out the hard drive and hooked it up to the desktop I used the desktop to format the laptop s hard drive and to install windows It was late so i left it and came back in the morning I got a message saying something about i o error and the installation was cancelled After that i returned the drive to the laptop and bought a USB stick I was able to transfer the installation files and make the stick bootable So i used it to start the installation once more The same error came up At this time i was told that the error came due to some components acting up As advised i disconnected the DVD drive and one stick of RAM When i tried the installation once more i got a different error something like Could not set offline locale information I was frustrated so i tried something different i tried installing Ubuntu but the display stopped working just as the installation was about to begin So i tried Fedora same thing I even dredged up an old Windows XP installation it didn t even load the setup files I was frustrated and luckily came across an article about the locale error It said that possibly the harddrive was failing and i could install windows by creating several partitions and hoping one would not contain as many damaged sectors Prior to this i had run chkdsk and sfc scannow chkdsk failed to create and store the result log file and sfc just failed I did as stated and Windows installed So now that windows was back i ran a command that would query the drive s health but the test results said everything was ok I m not sure if it said the truth However Windows is still slow and frustrating I think it s a hardware problem since even after over clean installs everything is still slow The specs Acer Aspire z Windows Home Premium SP bit Current W Professional SP -bit initially GB RAM GHz Dual core Intel processor Anything else you want to know please ask So what is causing all this Is my hard drive failing or is my laptop just dying Is there a way i can fix this Something else it doesn t seem to recognize usb devices It plays th Device Connected sound but nothing shows up in the removable devices list nbsp

Hi new here just looking for a bit of advice as i'm stumped A couple of months ago i switched of my perfectly working laptop went to switch it back on again and had blank screen with just cursor I tried re-installing the OS but a combination of wrong discs and stress meant i gave up Finally got around yesterday to paying someone to re-install the OS and low and behold startup windows issues. 5315 Acer 7 w/ a working laptop Until last night when i Acer 5315 w/ windows 7 startup issues. went to turn it back on again and this time startup wouldn't get past the quot breathing quot windows image The person who repaired Acer 5315 w/ windows 7 startup issues. has now re-installed yet again fortunately at no cost to me but i'm now terrified to switch off incase it happens again The person who repaired it says its not the hard-drive as he ran a diagnostic and it's working fine He's also done checks for viruses and malware each time and found nothing Oh and system restore won't work once the startup problem occurs Has anyone came across this before and can reccommend how to fix the issue as i'm guessing it's only a matter of time before it happens again

A:Acer 5315 w/ windows 7 startup issues.
