I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Does anyone know how to install the Dell Wireless Utility for AT&T on a Dell Latitude E6500? I was able to install the 5520 drivers using the method here http://blog.marc-seeger.de/tag/5520/1 but I can't figure out how to get the utility to install. When I try to install it I get a message "Not a dell compatible system" The file I am trying to use for the install is DELL_MULTI-DEVICE_A05_R216783. Thanks in advance.

The usual cause of this is a missing installation of the Dell notebook system software - has that been installed?

Hi!
I purchased a Latitude E6500 (original delivery October 2009 w/ windows vista), with an installed Windows 10 Home Edition, from a Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher.
The Dell Product Support Page generated by the Service Tag says the "Product is not tested for Windows 10 upgrade" etc., etc.
The Device Manager shows the majority of Device Drivers as being Microsoft 2006 vintage with the following exceptions.
All are Provided By & Signed By, Microsoft
All are Dated 10-29-2015 - Win 10 public release July 2015.

All are Version 10.0.10586.0

System Device - High Definition Audio Controller
System Device - Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator
Sound, Video and Game Controllers - High Definition Audio Device
DVD / CD ROM Devices
Speakers (High Definition Audio Device)

Can I use the "Dell Command | Update" tool to update all Drivers?

I've got newly created hard drive images with Vista Business 32-bit and Vista Ultimate 64-bit on separate partitions. It seems I've installed all the appropriate drivers, and yet when I put an SD card in the SD reader, nothing happens, and I don't see it in Explorer or Disk Management.
In Device Manager, I see SD host adapters --> SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller, and driver appears to have installed correctly, just nothing happens upon insertion of an SD card.
My HP laptop will read both SD cards just fine, but I can't get the E6500 to read them.
Anyone have any ideas?

A:Latitude E6500 SD card reader not working?

I was looking for an answer to this issue with no solution at this moment. I have an e6500 too with the same problem, Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bits installed fully updated. My system can read any SD Card with a USB Multi Card Reader but with no results using de SD Card Reader. I understand this is a Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller (IDE ATA/ATAPIControllers) with a rimptsk.sys driver version 6.0.2.3 provided by REDC. Despite everything looks good with software and hardware it does not recognize any SD or MMC card (I did not try others) withou regards the brand I put into.  Reinstalling OS is not a solution anlymore. Solution approches maybe: 1)  Hardware replacement 2) Waiting for a new driver capable to manage this because is clear it's not a problem with SD or MMC card but Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller or SD Card Reader Adapter. 3) SD Host Controller in doing wrong bridge with Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller or.............................

I just saw the new Client System Update utility for my E6500, downloaded, and installed it on Win7 x64. I've been talking about Dell creating such a util for years and finally Dell did.

However, it does not work. After I press the Check for updates button, after a bit it comes back with "Check for updates failed" and the GUI-U15 error in the logs. I tried many times, including after a reboot. Also, the app just disappears (probably crashes silently) when I go to Advanced->system details.

Any ideas? I was excited to spread the word around about it but can't as it doesn't work at all.

Windows 7 Dell Inspiron laptop, works normally 90% of the time.
Then occasionally, the S key will act like its held down and/or stop working altogether for a few minutes, then return to normal. It will do this in all programs.

Any ideas what this is? There doesn't seem to be anything under the S key, and like I said it will function normally 90% of the time. As it's a laptop and I'm poor I can't replace the keyboard and don't want to cellotape a usb keyboard to it.

Whenever i tried to rename some folders on my mp3 through the usb on my laptop , a popup appears that says , the driver that this file or folder is stored on does not allow long names containing blanks or any of the following characters .

It wasnt like this before , i could rename long names last time , my mp3 mem stick is about 8gb , so i dun think it has any reason to do with the memory it has . Please help!

A:NEC VERSA E6500 USB HELP!

Hi,

Are you using any special software to manage this MP3?

The size of the MP3/USB has nothing to do with the file restrictions, it's strictly limited to Windows AND the application itself. You might want to contact the suppliers support asking how many characters are allowed.

Other than that you can try restoring the device, if applicable.

I have a Latitude E6500 with WXGA screen, part number X397H.  I hoped to upgrade the screen to WUXGA, perhaps part number RX392 (LTN154CT02).
It seems it will be necessary to upgrade the inverter and video cable because the number of CCFL tubes will increase from 1 to 2.  Is this correct?
Since both screens are 15.4 inches, will the replacement screen fit properly or will it need a whole replacement top half?

A:Upgrade screen in E6500?

Before embarking on an upgrade (yes, both those parts will need to be replaced), if you really want the upgrade, it may make more sense to buy a complete used system -- they're not all that much more expensive than the price of the parts alone.

It should work, but carefully investigate the need for a larger heatsink from the M4400.  You have a pin-grid CPU (the BGA CPUs are soldered, not socketed).

Hello, I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 5558 with Windows 8.1 64b installed. I can't use touchpad gestures, no scroll, no pinch to zoom, etc. I have installed the latest drivers from here but after install (which says it is succesfull) nothing is showing up in my taskbar or control panel or program files.

A:Dell Touchpad gestures not working on Dell Inspiron 5558

I found the fix here. Install Synaptics 19.15.2 Windows 10 64 Bit  even tough you have Windows 8.1.
Install like this:
1) Extract the files to another folder
2) Open the folder with extracted files copy the path of the x64 drivers
3) Go to Control Panel>Device Manager>Mice and other pointing devices
4) Right click mice and other pointing devices, select Update Driver>From Hard-Disk
5) Add the x64 drivers path
6) Select Dell Touchpad
7)  Install drivers
8) Restart

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.
Please help me out.

A:My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.

Hello. The problem could be either in the hardware or the software, so you need to test each. Perform the tests below -- it doesn't matter which one you do first.

To test the speakers, perform the Quick Audio Check in the ePSA test. If the speakers fail the test then they have failed or become disconnected. (Click the link for instructions on how to run the test.)

To test the software, switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native driver. [This test assumes that your laptop has the Realtek audio driver. If you get to step 2 and do not see "Realtek High Definition Audio" then go to the Dell support page for your model and download the Realtek driver that Dell provides for the version of Windows that the laptop is running.]
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If the speakers work correctly only with the native driver, then the Realtek driver is buggy. If the speakers work correctly only with the Realtek driver, then the native driver is buggy.

If the speakers worked during the Quick Audio Check (above) but do not work with either driver, it could be that the sensing mechanism in the headphone jack has failed, making Windows think that there is a plug in the jack when there is not. There is a full explanation of that issue in the Headphone Jack FAQ.

Think you made out pretty well on this deal, in addition to the higher cpu clock you also have a faster front side bus.

A:Being held hostage..

Hi there, welcome to the TSG Forums.

They did ID some of the the problems as a virut and virut a/b among other trojan downloaders and false security ware.Click to expand...
Virut is a polymorphic file infector. Almost immediately it gets on a machine it infects all the exe files including essential system files and the tools we use as we use them.

This link might be of interest to you.

mekiemoes blog about file infectors

I don't like to have to tell you this but it would be irresponsible of me or anyone else to attempt to help you clean a machine with this infection. The real fact is that trying to cure it will not work and will endanger other machines connected to the net. Not only that but in time, a reasonably short time, your machine is likely to become unbootable. This as the infection progresses.

The latest version of Virut infects virtually all files, so backup is risky. Files ending in extensions .exe/.scr/.htm/.html/.xml/.zip/.rar/.doc/.jpg/.pdf have all been found to be infected and there may be others. If you back them up and replace them afterwards, it will infect your computer again.

The only solution for your computer is a complete wipe of the hard drive i.e. re-format followed by re-installation.

Go to WindowsXP Clean Install for instructions how to format and reinstall Windows.

Hi, recently 'something' deleted my DEP exceptions. I've not seen that happen for a long time. Then it happened again. I even suspected a ccleaner upgrade (hmm, surely not!).

Anyway, given that, do you know where they are held? Or how to back them up?

I tried regshot, before and after adding one, but it found nothing. (Compares registry snapshots).

Searched for DEP exceptions/back up/ backup/ location etc etc...

Thanks!

A:DEP exceptions- where are they held?

Hi, I can finally answer my own question:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
appears to be where the list is recorded.

Using Process Monitor with careful filtering, after several attempts, a list of exactly the exe's recorded as exceptions appears here.

I (stupidly) accepted a free download of attractive backgrouds.

When I next started up, the first thing that came up was a supposed antivirus programme seemingly scanning my Computer for problems.

When finished it gave the option "Fix".

This took me to a site which asked me to buy the product.

I turned it down and attempted to delete it.

After much time, I eventually deleted off screen using task manager.

The screen then froze, and windows would not load, so I could not do anything about it.

I have tried in safe mode, to no avail.

It is obviously some kind of blackmail.

Is there any way of doing a system restore through the F buttons ??

Please help. I am using a borrowed Computer at the moment.

In the last three weeks, whenever I open Word or PowerPoint I get a pop-up with "Your control key is down. Do you want to open Word/PowerPoint in safe mode." Both programs act squirrely--Select in Word automatically selects the whole paragraph, for example. In my email program, Eudora, when I move to a new message, it keeps the previous message open.

Think Pad Edge, 8 MB, AMD dual core processor, Windows 7. The keyboard has been replaced and the computer fully checked out by a tech, with no joy. Has anyone seen this before, and if so, what can be done about it, short of buying a new laptop.

Thanks in advance,

Duane

Hello. I came here because El Goog was proving unhelpful.

A day or so ago my nephew was left alone with my parent's computer, as expected things went south. The computer in question thinks that a + key is held down constantly.
I have tried other keyboards, I have tried no keyboard, so it can't be a keyboard own issue. I have restarted more times I can count, launching in safe mode and even uninstalling all keyboard software in the Device Manager. So far, nothing is working and I am at the end of my very limited tech-fu skills.

The computer is a Fujitsu desktop with Windows 7.

Thank you in advance.

A:Computer acts as if a key is being held down.

Have you tried using
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore
to restore that computer to a date and time BEFORE your nephew got his hands on it?

My operating system is MS Vista and I have been using Internet Explorer 7 until recently. While still using IE7, I attempted to get on and, instead found an ad for GameSecure. My screen was frozen, and I was unable to get out of this except through TaskMaster. I later tried downloading IE8, but this made no difference. I cannot use IE at all because of this. Instead I must use Mozilla or Google. What can I do? (If this is the wrong part of the forum for this question, please direct me to the right place.) Thanks

Create a directory on your hardrive to save HijackThis.exe. A directory like c:\hijackthis. If you do not do this, you will not be able to use the backup/restore features.Download HijackThis from:HijackThisSave this file into the directory you made previously and then run the program. Click on the Scan button and when it is finished click on the Save Log button. A Notepad window will open with the contents of this log. Click on Edit then click on Select all. Then click on Edit and then Click on Copy.Create a reply to this post, and right click in message area and select paste to paste the log into the post.Someone will reply to you after reading this post. DO NOT fix any entries unless you understand what you are doing. To see a tutorial on using HijackThis you can click on the link below:How to use HijackThis to remove Browser Hijackers & Spyware

A:Computer is held hostage

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro (http://housecall.trendmicro.com). Make sure to select the Autoclean option. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Download Winsock2Fix (http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/Winsock2Fix.zip) and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gmbsvr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\inf\imgftp.exe

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Web Rebates

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

A repository of all current knowledge regarding CryptoWall & CryptoWall 2.0 is provided by Grinler (aka Lawrence Abrams), in this tutorial: CryptoWall and DECRYPT_INSTRUCTION Ransomware Information Guide and FAQReading that Guide will help you understand what CryptoWall & CryptoWall 2.0 does and provide information for how to deal with it and possibly decrypt/recover your files. At this time there is no fix tool for CryptoWall.CryptoWall 2.0 uses its own TOR gateways...see Updated CryptoWall 2.0 ransomware released that makes it harder to recover files. There is also a lengthy ongoing discussion in this topic: CryptoWall - new variant of CryptoDefense.Rather than have everyone start individual topics, it would be best (and more manageable for staff) if you posted any questions, comments or requests for assistance in that topic discussion.ThanksThe BC Staff

I have to start it.), Ad-aware, spy-bot, the yahoo toolbar spyware program and the AOL security programs. They all clean what ever they find, but the problem dosen't go away and there is always new stuff the next time i run it. Please Help Me.

Thanks,

A:My Computer is Being Held Hostage (I think)

Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.

I recently purchased anti spam plus from CA Security. When I went to download it, PC Pitstop Optimizer popped up offering a free scan. Thinking it was a CA Security product, I clicked on it. Well I found out that it wasn't a CA Security product. CA said they just promote it. Since then, my computer is running extremely slow. I contacted CA and they said they couldn't help me get this removed from my computer because it's not their product. I wouldn't have clicked on PC Pitstop Optimizer if I wasn't purchasing CA product. I have removed it from programs, recycle bin. I went into search all files and it's not there but it has still slowed my system down. I went and purchase more memory. It didn't help. My husband is furious with me for doing this damage. It is his computer. We are seniors and not very technical. Can you help me please?

A:Computer being held hostage

When is this 'extremely slow' operation occurring? Online? Offline?

The Optimize Scan doesn't really do a whole lot (deletes some cache and temp files) although it does tweak some registry keys.

This can be reversed (so they say);

' Can I undo the changes it makes?

The hard disk clean-up permanently removes unnecessary files and cannot be undone. All of the other utilities in Optimize can be completely reversed. The very first action Optimize does before making any registry setting changes is to make a backup of these settings. When you run Optimize it will give you the option to restore the registry settings back to any point before the application was run.'

The CA Security Anti Spam Plus package you installed will, obviously, slow your internet operation somewhat, and this could be noticeable if you have an already slow connection or system. Why? Because it is interceding with the communications to protect you as designed. You cannot get good protection without some hit on performance.

So, reverse tha changes made by Optimize, then click start, run, type msconfig, and under Startups (or Services) look for CA Security items and uncheck them (this doesn't remove them, just stops them from starting next time you boot up).

Then reboot.

Does your system seem 'faster' (like before?).

Re-enabling the CA software is the reverse -enter msconfig and put the check marks back and reboot.

Note: after using msconfig, on reboot you will get an ominous message about having changed settings - check the box to stop it annoying you and carry on.

Hi there! So, my dad's laptop has a wonky situation going on. I feel like I could fix it if I was right next to him, but I'm trying to help him through text messages (I live a few states away).

Anyways, his computer is acting like he has the alt key held down at all times. Additionally, when he hits the left shift (but apparently not the right shift?) button, the computer makes a beep. I feel like there's some setting that's causing this, but I can't think of what it is! This occurs even if he uses a USB keyboard, but he's unable to disable the built-in keyboard, so I'm sure that's not much of a help.

For the record, I already had him check the accessibility options, and sticky keys (et. al.) are all turned off.

A:WIndows acting like the alt key is held down

Most likely something got spilt on the keyboard, is why it is doing this.  You can get a replacement keyboard for around $35 for most laptops.

This happens when I alt tab and alt tab back into HoN/other games or while holding alt to use items and ping etc
HoN/other games start behaving like my alt key is stuck down when I am playing, so I can't use skills and when I try to use the skill hotkeys it attempts to use items like I was holding down ALT. I end up button bashing and continuously alt-tabbing to fix the problem, this almost makes it unplayable. I also go to click the map and instead of panning, it pings and annoys/confuses the team.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad running Windows 7, I called Lenovo support and they were not help at all and couldn't find the solution anywhere.

Note - this problem only occurs when playing HoN, so frustrating.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

A:Windows 7 Behaving like alt is held down.

Hiyya upto and welcome mate might sound rather flipping obvious but is your Alt key - actually sticking down? the top surface of the key may look as if it comes back up but the microswitch undernaeth - well I am assuming it is a microswitch of some sort itself maybe faulty. If this is a brand new machine mate I'd be taking it back just to get that checked out - anythings possible eh?

If it were an old machine I'd say get the service manual and flip the key out and clean but....

One way I suppose would be to disable the keypad if possible and plug in a USB device.

Hi Winger.

Welcome to BC.

Try REVO to uninstall the program -
www.revouninstaller.com/

RegSvr32(together with the name of the DLL) is what puts it in the registry, but I don't know why you are getting that message at the moment.

Let us know how you get on.

Good luck.

This is what I get when I try to copy a file from the backup dvd i made when I was still using XP.
I double checked that the disk was working properly and the files were there OK by opening the file in another computer using XP and another using Vista.

After getting too excited and stupidly clicking to upgrade my machine straight from XP to W7 without reformatting it created the windows.old folder and some other stuff but the problem is I get the error message in my topic title whenever I try to transfer a file from the disk.

Any help? I have a feeling this wouldnt have happened had I reformatted my stuff first and then done a clean install... ugh...

Hi

Sounds like a permissions issue with the root folder of your hard drive. Any number of things could have caused this but here is a tutorial which should fix your problem...

Take Ownership Shortcut

"Taking ownership" will override the evident lack of permissions. Follow the tutorial carefully.

Hello,

I've been having a problem where my mice (I've tried several) don't click (left or right) when I'm holding an alphanumeric key down. For example, I'm playing a video game where I need to move (w,a,s,d) and click at the same time, but am unable to.

I am able to click while holding down shift or click.
I didn't have this problem Windows XP so I'm thinking it's windows 7 based issue...

Has anybody experience this problem and knows how to fix it?

Also, how would I go about updating the mouse drivers?
I downloaded a zip file from dynex for my DX-WMSE (model) mouse.

A:Mouse not clicking when alphanumeric key is held

Welcome to Seven Forums.
Has this always happened with Win7 and in all games you play or specific ones only? You probably don't need a mouse driver since Windows has one. Only special functions, if needed are enabled with a mouse specific driver, ie, turn lights/logo off/on, etc. the mouse should function normally.

That said, go to the Dynex site to see if they have new drivers, unless that is what the zip file is.

Greetings all,

Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere already. I used the search option, but couldn't find any threads on it. So please bear with me.

My AVG Anti-Virus picked up on the following virus:

\ice\fire\traymgr.exe Troj_VB.JUC

and I don't know how to get it removed. In fact, it has spread to my USB drive as well. Every time AVG is run (autorun on startup), it picks up on the virus and moves it to the vault and deletes it automatically. However it keeps coming back.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! If you need to know specs or anything of the sort about my computer please let me know.

On a side note...I tried to install and run ComboFix, so that I could copy and paste the log on here. Everytime I try to install it I get a message stating "Can not install on this OS." After some research, I have found that ComboFix does work on my OS (Vista). I'm at a loss.

I had genuine cause to run chkdsk from a command prompt yesterday (on my 8yr old Acer) because Acronis 2015 which I'm beta testing reported a problem imaging the drive (a bad sector).

I wondered... once chkdsk has run then the bad sector must be marked as non usable for future reference. Is that information held somewhere on the HDD (modifying the firmware) or is it somehow stored in within the OS.

If the former then its "permanent", if the latter then the information would be lost if for example you recovered to a disk image made prior to running chkdsk. Anyone any ideas ?

A:CHKDSK. Where is record of bad sectors held. HHD or OS ?

I think it's both ways. Windows takes out, so to speak a bad sector out of table and eventually, if recoverable, data to other place. HDD's SMART also relocates bad sector (as much data as it can find) to a spare area that every one has and doesn't let OS to access that bad part.
Programs like: Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring or Download HDDExpert - MajorGeeks and many others can read SMART data and show you exactly what it found and did to HDD.

My 8gb kingston SD card which has worked fine for a year was pushed to far into my computer one day (past the click/lock thing) and it got stuck so I had to pull it out with a paperclip and tweezers. When I pulled it out I noticed that it was scratched at the back but only on the plastic part but now whenever I try to normally put it in my computer or camera it doesn't read. But if I push it farther then the click the device recognizes it but won't let me record video or put files on. Does anybody know how I could fix this?

Hello, I am having a very strange behavior. When I press and hold the SHIFT key, it will not persist. For example, if I wanted to type a row of "*", I press the shift key and hold it, and it will type "*****888888". This happens on the laptop keyboard, a USB keyboard I attached, and the on screen keyboard, so it does not appear to be a hardware problem.

It seems as though the shift is activated for only about a second when I press and hold the shift key, and then it reverts back.

The same thing happens to the CTRL key. Very annoying when trying to do cut/paste (ctrl-c/ctrl-v).

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance!!!

I now use a digital camcorder, but in the early 90's I was using a Sony Video8 camcorder.

I have 60+ tapes that I can't play/view, much less copy to a DVD, as my old Sony camcorder is broken. I always used it to playback my video tapes by plugging it directly into the TV. I checked w/ a local repair shop and they want $150 to repair it. All I need it for is to playback the tapes so I can copy them to DVD. After than, I'll toss it.

I can't find "anything" that will play the Video 8 format. Also, It is my understanding that a vcr tape converter does not exist for this type of format. I can't find anything on EBay and I've asked everyone (friends, family, etc.) if they have an old Video8 camcorder and they don't.

Can someone help?

It was working one day, but when I woke up the next day the problem occurred. The computer stayed on all night so it shouldn't be a startup issue. Ran an antivirus scan and used a registry cleanup tool, but neither came up with anything.

Also, this is a laptop with a built-in keyboard so I can't really just get a new one and I really don't want to use an external keyboard for my laptop.

I've tried searching all over the Internet for my problem, but everyone else suggests turning FilterKeys OFF instead - my problem seems to be the exact opposite.

Just to be sure it's a keyboard problem, I would try using a usb external one for testing. If it turns out the problem still exists, then the utility at the following link may help;

Email was sent from a third party notification app server more than a month ago. I received the email back then, but received the same email more than a month later. Email header has the same date the email was originally sent.
It really seems like email was sent and then being held on the email server (Groupwise) for more than a month.
Anyone have any idea about what may have caused a behavior like this?

A:What Will Cause Emails To Be Held On The Email Server

I've experienced this before with my new ISP, in this case it was only a week. But my previous ISP had some problems and I would get e-mail that had been sent upwards of two months ago, this is why I changed ISPs. In short, it has to be a server glitch at the ISP. Perhaps someone else can elucidate on this.

This issue persists even with different keyboards and mice. Makes it impossible to type or do anything of note on the pc without on screen keyboard as when I try to type the pc thinks i want new tabs on browser, to bring up an "open file" prompt or various other functions related to modifier commands.
Sticky keys are completely turned off
I have swapped OS from Windows 10 to Windows 7 to start from scratch in case of registry conflicts
Have tried all the solutions I've seen on google

No idea what to do next. Any help would be appreciated. Hitting alt at any point will shut down the pc.

Currently typing this from my partner's laptop because on-screen keyboard sucks :s

Hi Guys,

I have had this laptop for about 12 months and have had no problems. I have been reading and writing to drive C, D, E and F into user created folders as well as to the root of each drive. I am the owner/administrator of the machine with all permissions.

Yesterday I went to create another batch file and save it to drive C, and suddenly I no longer have the privilege.

I have done a complete restore from my weekly full system backup but this did not resolve the problem.

Any Ideas?

A:A required privilege is not held by the client.

Hi Cornwall, Welcome to Sevenforums.

First thing that needs to be done by you is to run antivirus (whichever you are using), Malwarebytes. You can download Malware bytes from here Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

Run both of them and then do a reboot. If this solves your issue then good. Else, we have to check something else.

As you mentioned that you did system restore. Do restore boot options.

1. Go to Boot options (F8, F12).
2. Select Repair from the menu.
3. Select an admin account, then enter its password.
4. Select System Restore when prompted.
5. Set Windows back to a point before you locked yourself out.
6. Reboot and check if you are able to write now.

Cheers!

If you boot with a Linux LiveCD, you can copy files off the hard drive to a USB stick. Since it is booting Linux, it should bypass all problems that Windows has.

Go here to download Ubuntu 10.04 ( There is a newer version, but I am going by my existing setup, so follow along and choose 10.04 ) http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download Save the iso file.

Then download ImgBurn from here: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Install ImgBurn and run it.

Choose "Write Image to Disc"

At the top of the Imgburn window, where it says "Source" click on the folder with maginfying glass icon; Then navigate to where you saved the ISO file.

Then click on the bottom area of the window depicting hd write to CD.

That should create the CD.

Now you want to boot with the CD on your PC. Check your BIOS so that it chooses to boot using the CD first. You are looking for the Boot menu, boot priority, or something along that line.

Once you boot into Ubuntu, pull down the Places pull down menu. Choose the ## GB Filesystem. That would be your hard drive. You will be able to see all folders in your drive. Now copy off the files you want to a USB memory stick.

A:Keys don't repeat when held down unless FilterKeys is ON

Hello Tukkun and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might be able to change the registry here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\Keyboard Response

AutoRepeatRate: a value of 15 equals 64 characters per second on my keyboard. A value of 30 equals 32 characters/sec but any values in between don't translate properly.
AutoRepeatDelay: should be at least 300, but a higher setting (400-500-1000) may work better for your particular typing style.
BounceTime, DelayBeforeAcceptance: I leave them at 0. Your mileage may vary.
Flags: is 35 if enabled but will cause FilterKeys icon in the system tray. 34 will disable this.

You could try playing around with these settings to see if they make a difference for you. Any registry changes will probably require rebooting for them to take effect.

   Warning
Before making any registry changes it's advisable to make a System Restore Point or save and export a copy of the registry "just in case". Improperly changing the registry could brick your computer.

Do you want to activate your anti-virus software now?" It displays a website of www.jezebel.com in my internet address. This is a windows XP home edition computer. Can you help me? Thanks.Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum, due to the request for malware a log by staff. ~ Animal

A:Computer is held hostage by ransomware?

Hello findmyway ,This isn't ransomware, it's System Tool.....Let's disable the main file manually so you can run some tools. Do you have access to a flash drive? What I want you to look for is in Application Data (If using XP, otherwise Program Data). There will be a folder, with a file in it of the same "name". This will appear random, but it has a pattern. Look for letters and numbers in this order: lower case, upper case, lower case, upper case, lower case, then 5 random numbers. For example:Folder -----> pEeHl02508\pEeHl02508.exe <-----file insideDelete the folder. Now, download the following tool to a flash drive from a different computer, then put it on the infected one and run it.This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. 1. Download this file - combofix.exe http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe 2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please.Note:Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall. If you have trouble running it the first time, then rename ComboFix.exe to findmyway.exe and try again. Thanks, tea

When i try to open this setup file, it gives me this error "A required privilege is not held by the client" I have full administrator right on my pc. Would upgrading to windows 10 fix this? Attachment 65413
- Windows 8.1
- 64Bit OS
- HP Laptop

I have had this error in the past and had to do a system restore point but when this has recently started happening again, i had no restore points to go back to. This seems to happen to most applications. I have tried running the exe as an administrator, doesn't work. Also tried to run from external HDD. Googled around a lot but nothing useful Nothing seems to work! Any help would be very much appreciated :)

A:A required privilege is not held by the client

Strangely, "administrator" is no longer the equivalent of superuser. Files are owned by System and TrustedInstaller quite a bit with associated permissions fairly restrictive to others.

For stupid example, C:\windows\temp is no longer accessible by "administrator".

Anyway, there is a convoluted way to get sufficient permissions by "administrator" to do what you want to do -see the "Advanced" button of the "Security" tab when you right-click on the object you want to access and click on "Properties".

In my case (and that MIGHT mean all 64-bit 8.1 Pro systems or not) the permissions of the parent directory (folder) can also cause problems when trying to enhance "administrator" permissions on an object inside that directory/folder.

I finally gave up on accessing temp via the windowing system.

But, in uSoft's wisdom, opening an Administrator-level CMD dialog allows you to command-line access anything. Example:

Since this is a common problem, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a tutorial here to (try to) get access via the windowing system.

I was using the new Edge browser on my laptop today to try to find a solution to a is by Help. being hostage web site. held Need Edge a Microsoft problem and now I have a new problem I got onto Microsoft Edge is being held hostage by a web site. Need Help. a website that put up a prompt to install some software that I don't want The prompt only has an option to install the software and when the prompt went up on screen the screen went gray which now won't allow me to select another open Microsoft Edge is being held hostage by a web site. Need Help. tab open a new tab or close the tab Edge will not allow me to close Edge either I can currently close Edge with Task Manager but the next time I open Edge it restores all of my open tabs including the one that's prompting me to install something It seems to me that there has to be some way to either get rid of the open tabs if Edge is locked onto something like this Is anyone aware of how I can get beyond this error

A:Microsoft Edge is being held hostage by a web site. Need Help.

Well, I was able to get out of this mess on my own but I'd still like to know if there's any other way to resolve an issue like this. I noticed that when I launched Edge there was a brief moment before the page loaded where I might have an opportunity to select another tab. Took me several tries but I finally was able to select another open tab and once I was able to do this, I then closed Edge specifying that I wanted to close ALL of the open tabs. Once I re-launched Edge again, everything was OK but I checked settings and I could not find anything that would allow me not retain open tabs when Edge closes or would prompt me to restore or not restore an open tab when edge is opened. My concern is that this time I was lucky and had another tab open that I could select but what if the bogus web site was the only one opened or the connection to the bogus site opened too fast to allow you to select another tab?

Interesting title, I'll explain. I need to repair/upgrade my windows 7 using my windows 7 disc, but when I click upgrade, it goes through this compatible mode and then gets help up, it says it's getting held up by a program called Nero - Burning Rom. I tried uninstalling it from Ctrl panel, deleting the registry of Nero, deleting shortcuts and anything else I could think of, same error. Any help? Tried re-booting a few times. Nothing.

A:Gateway M-1625 acting like Windows Key is held down

Try swapping keyboards. If you can do that or just buy a cheap one for $5 just to see.
You don't need a special driver for the keyboard to use the keyboard unless there are many hotkeys like the MS 5000 for example.
That's my opinion, I think the keyboard my be faulty.:approve:
You can also try this, if the Windows key doesn't work, try [CTRL] - [ESC], it does the same thing.

Press the shift key 5 times quickly then cancel out of the message box.
