I have a Study Guide with questions in Microsoft Works Word Processor and I wanted to fill in the answers in a different font and color. But every time I click the question I want to answer, it automatically changes to the font and color of the question. So I have to type the answers and then highlight it and change the font and color manually. I have a ton of questions to answer and it is getting to be really time consuming to have to go back and change them all manually. Is there a way to set the font and color to be locked and never change even if I click a word or line that has a different font and color?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Just like Word, each area can have its own font and other settings.
You are going to have to put up with this, as the author did not set up the study guide to be used in this manner.
Hello. I have Microsoft Works Word Processor.
I have a Vista operating system.
When I open up a word document to type,
I want it always to open with another font and size,
not the current one. (times new roman).
It is hassle to change this everytime, and then it goes back to times new roman whenever it wants.
I cannot find out how to do this.
I cannot even find a "preferences" in case that would work.
Instructions at the link below:
I have been attempting to create labels in MSW word processor in XP operating system.I select the preferred font and the first label is OK.When I begin the second label the font reverts to the New Times Roman default font. Can someone advise me on how to change the default font in this particular process and also maintain the selected font size. Patrol03
Since tables are being used, you need to select ALL of the Cells in the table, then, go to the menu and then Fonts and then select the font and style that you want. This should be valid for that document.
i just went from windows 2000 to windows 7 professional and we had to reinstall all programs....
i need to open my company logo which was saved in microsoft office word 97-2003 - my new program is microsoft works word processor - i have tried saving it in different formats on my old computer but nothing seems to be working....
Hya everyone. I hope i am in the right forum. Could someone tell me how to change a letter in Microsoft Works processor into word format. My son is trying to email his c.v. to companies and agencies but got a letter from a couple stating unable to open file attachment please email in word format. We do not have microsoft word just microsoft works.
Check this Microsoft page and see if helps.
Where can I download this? I don't know why I can't find it ANYWHERE. It's on my win 7 desktop, but I want it on my laptop. Can someone please find me a download link? If it's not free, then a paid download is fine.
it is discontinued software now
you still see copies on Amazon or Ebay, but it is very much buyer beware
I am wanting to help my mom. She can never remember to save her documents using Word (thats all she will be comfortable with) in rich text format or in .doc. The program first choice in the "save as" menu is .wps which is unreadable to many she has to submit documents to and also takes up much more space. Is there any way I can change the defaults or just make the .rtf the first choice in her choices of saving files?
thanks bunches in advance
When using the Microsoft Works 7 Word Processor I am unable to open a document that I have previously Saved, the computer hangs and the following message is displayed.:
"The procedure entry point [email protected]@@[email protected] could not be found in the dynamic link library dlbtutil.dll."
I have Googled the message without success and no previous relevant messages can be found in the Bleepingcomputer forums
Please can anyone suggest the cause of the problem and how it can be resolved?
Hello - I copied a file from someone's computer onto a floppy. When I put the floppy in my machine I received this message " Works cannot open the file because the file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or the file may be corrupt." The computer I copied the file from is running windows XP. The computer I tried to open the file on is running Windows me. The windows me computer does have microsoft works word processor installed on it . So It should be able to open the program. Both computers were purchased within a year and a half so programs should be compatible. I have tried opening the file with Word but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions? Just for clarity the file I cannot open is from " Microsoft works word Processor.
I downloaded this program and it fixed the problem
I bought my computer in ish maybe and it came with Windows Vista Home Premium -bit It also came with pre-installed software and of those pre-installed software included Microsoft Works Word Processor I upgraded to Windows Ultimate -bit last week and I have been painstakingly installing my programs back after I messed up the Works Microsoft Word Processor installation First I installed Windows Home Premium -bit then I realized I put in the wrong disc Microsoft Works Word Processor so I then put in Windows Home Premium -bit then I upgraded to Ultimate -bit All my programs got messed up in the process and I basically have a clean install of Windows with a Windows old folder containing my programs in a folder which all need to be re-installed I can see my Microsoft Works Word Processor but it won't let me run the installation on it I tried running it in compatibility modes for every available option but nothing works I also ran it as an administrator How can I legally re-install these programs I purchased I have tons and tons of wps files that I want to be able to open with a program I purchased with my computer Yes I have heard of OpenOffice and it does not support wps files I do have Microsoft Office Professional installed but it can't seem to open wps files unless I'm wrong
Microsoft Office 2013 is capable of opening Works 6-9 documents in a Compatibility mode.
To do that in Word 2013 you need to go File - Open - Computer - Browse.
In Open window you have to select a filter:
All files (*.*) or Works 6 - 9 Document (*.wps)
I was typing a document, saved it and closed it. When I went back to get I got this message:"In order to open this file Works needs to use a file converter, which may pose a security risk if the file you are opening is a malicious file. Choose OK to open this file if you are sure it is from a trusted trusted source."
When I click OK I get this:"Works cannot open (file name). The file may be in use by another application, the format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or the file may be corrupt." and then receive a blank page.
Does anyone know what this is and how I can get my doc. back. This is happening with a few docs. but not all.
Please consider this only a suggestion as I am not sure I understand the program problem you
are having, . . as I am only familiar with word pad, etc.
but open a new file of the word processor and click save and then check the drop down under
the title window and check the options you have to save as, is it possible that an optional choice may be what you need to do ?
Are you able to find the documents that you are not able to open ?
Hi Everyone I did Microsoft Works Word Processor a quick search of the forums and didn t come up with anything similar to the problem I ve just started having with MS Word I ll be working on a document and saving my work every so often Then all of a sudden Windows starts telling me that it can t save the file I goofed and didn t think quick enough to get a screen shot of that message However I was able to copy past everything from the document I was trying to save to a new document which is what I did as I had already had the same thing happen to me a couple of times before Then when I clicked Yes I get quot This quot message OK so then I click No on exit to close the Microsoft Works Word Processor document and got quot This quot asking if I wanted to save the changes to the document Then I Just click No because that s the only option that will let me close that application Then when I try to open it again I get quot This quot dreaded message Have any of you guys ever run into anything like this before It doesn t seem to matter if the document only has ten pages or if it has one hundred ten pages Nor does it seem to matter if I have a lot of images in it or none at allI am at a loss as to what to do to prevent this form happening in the future At least I have a work around that I can use so as not to lose my entire document but this is still just a bit nerve wercking Thanks for any help or advice guys Wendy
We've had more than a few Works problems latelyYou might want to look at these:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297061http://support.microsoft.com/ph/1188http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/264021/microsoft-works-word-processor/
When attempting to access Microsoft Works Word Processor, I get an error message that reads:
Microsoft Works Word Processor has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I haven't gotten any notification, and this has been happening for several days.
Um, sorry to bother you all with this but I need a bit of help with a works word file. The program does not want to open saying that it is in use, format not supported or its corrupt. I've tried re-installing works to no effect and I doubt its corrupt since I can see the text inside with a little space like a square between each character. Unfortunatly, its image heavy since its college work.
I really need to get this open so I can print it and hand it in, any ideas?
Oh, and I'll send it to someone willingly if they could turn it or transfer all the stuff onto a Microsoft word documant or Openoffice. I'll be eternally grateful.
Is there any way to alphabetize a list in Microsoft Works Word Processor 8.5?
You need to add the items to a table and then you should be able to do the sorting.
Look in the "Help" and search on 'sort' and the last entry is a helper.
My computer recently had a virus, a friend came by to fix it and everything is up and running like before, but my Word still isn't working. I have a Desktop hard drive hooked up so i don't want to restart my computer. I tried changing the program in my set associations panel, and still nothing. Any other advice?
You mentioned that you changed the file association, so when you click on a .doc file, what program is starting up right now?
I've just bought a new computer (running on VISTA) with Microsoft Works 8.1 pre-installed and am having a problem. When I type a document and try to e-mail it, nothing happens. I don't get error messages -- just nothing happens.
Will appreciate any suggestions.
I'm doing a science lab report and I'm typing it up right now. I am almost finish but I'm having probz with the data table...how do I Merge cells in Microsoft WORKS, I can't find the option no where, I don't know if I'm just simply looking over it or what...so yea, can anyone tell me how to do this?
Or is it so that you can't do this in MS Works...if not, wht software can I use to do this?

I have Windows XP Pro SP and version of Works Now when I start up the Works word processor and I use the quot Open quot function it always opens in quot My Documents quot When I use quot WordPad quot it opens in the last folder used Is there a way to make the Works word processor act like this If not is there a way to change the default opening folder Also is there a way to change the default location where a file is saved Also since this is closely related I ll ask this When you use the Open function in the Works wp you get the quot Open quot dialog box At the bottom there is a drop down box called quot Files of type quot It always opens with quot Works Document wps If you click the drop down box one of the options is quot All Files Is there a way to change Changing default opening Works the in the folder/directory word processor it to this Thanks royeo nbsphttps://forums.techguy.org/threads/changing-the-default-opening-folder-directory-in-the-works-word-processor.593339/
I am going to do a clean install of windows xp home. i have 98 now and all my notes are on microsoft works word processor. does xp home have works word processor, or does it just hav word??? THANX
Ah, neither....they are stand alone programs.
I reset the Microsoft Works Word Processor to default with a different font size. It worked fine. Then, while setting up a printing for envelopes, I tried to reset that as a default as well. Big mistake. Now when I open the word processor program it comes up as the envelope function and I cannot get the original page for letter writing back. Microsoft was no help when I accessed their web page (too far over my head in their explanations as well as being not too user-friendly for my level of understanding). Does anyone know how I can get it open the right way again? I use Window's Vista on an Acer Extensa 5620. Thanks.
This only applies for the Works word processor, the common one in Works NOT spelled with a capital W, as in Word.
First, only do this with the Work word processor not going.
If you really only want one default word processing template in Works (and it sounds like you do), and if you have no other templates that you want (and it sounds like you don't) then you can just delete all templates in this folder:
Then, just start up the word processor and see if it is fixed.
If that is not the case, just let me know and I will adjust and tell you what else you can do, instead.
I'm not much of a fan of the word processor that came with Vista. I was wondering if there is an update that makes the word processor better; or, if not, is there a different processor that you guys can recommend to me?
I have been pleased with AbiWord 2.6.2, which is a freeware based word processor similar to Windows, but a little bit better. Here's the link.

When i open Microsoft Works Word Processor an error pop ups saying:
"Microsoft Works Font Cache has encounted a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
I was just wondering how to fix this problem. If you need anymore information then just say.
Thanks in advance
You might have to reinstall the Works suite, or try restoring your computer to an earlier state. but have you considered using a different, more modern productivity suite such as Open Office at openoffice.org ?
How can I change the default settings for font and size in Microsoft works word processor? It always comes up 10pt. I would like it always to start at 14pt.
Hello,I've been having this problem with Microsoft Works Word Processor for as long as I can remember. I'm finally hoping to get an answer as to why it happens and how to fix it.Every time I copy something, for example, a passage from an email I typed, and then try to paste it into a new word document, this is the message that pops up:If I try to do it again, the process just repeats itself. Why is this happening, and how can I fix it?Thanks so much!MicheleEdited to add:I've never been notified of a solution as the message states will happen if one is found, and, as I mentioned, this has been a problem for well over a year.Merged topics ~ Hamluis.
Hello,This is another problem that I've been having with Microsoft Works Word Processor. I tried to get help with this a long time ago, but it was never really resolved, from what I remember. For some reason, whenever I try to open a document that has previously been saved, reopened at a later date, and re-saved, I get this message every time I open it again. I just end up hitting save again and replacing the original copy with the new copy even though they are exactly the same. Previously, a "helper" on Bleeping Computer told me they thought it was happening because my computer was shutting down on it's own, but this is not always the case. Anyway, here's the message:Thanks,Michelehttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/386759/microsoft-works-word-processor-problem/
For some reason I can no longer open Microsoft Works Word Processor or any of the files I created using this programme. When I try to do so I get the following error message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".
I uninstalled the programme and then re-installed it subsequently but still have the same problem. All other programmes in the suite such as Microsoft Calender, Database, Spreadsheet etc. are all opening OK.
If anyone can throw some light on this issue I would be most grateful.
do you see a file called
if so double click on it and see if it runs
then we can work out the shortcut for programs
My system is Windows XP and I feel my computer user level is just basic. I have lost all the history in my Microsoft Works(7.0) Word Processor. (no clue how it got lost)When I go to My Documents I can see all the files from history but I cannot open any of them. When I try to open a file it directs me to buy Word Perfect(R) 11 software with an upgrade to Word Perfect 12 for $99.00. Should I buy the software? Is there a way to move the files back into the Word Processor history? Next to each file in My Documents it says WPEntrust Signed Document.
MS Works has nothing to do with Word Perfect! MS Works is related to MS Office. If you are looking for your documents, have you tried launching Works and going to File/Open to see what is there? Perhaps you had a trial version of Word Perfect in your computer, too. If you like the word processor in Works, perhaps you should upgrade to Word 2007 instead -- Word is a much larger, more diversified program than the abbreviated version in Works.
Hi there guys.
Okay so here's the issue.
I have an HP Pavillion a813w that had Microsoft Works pre-installed on my computer.
Now, I just did a roll back, totally reformated my computer on April 10th to total factory settings once more, so my computer is relatively unbuggy, or so I thought.
However, when I was sent a document from a friend today via AIM, and I scanned it with my virus scanner, it was clean. It had me say yes, I agree to the EULA, and then as it was loading up, it just seemed to disappear, I couldn't open up the document, and I have tried rebooting, and restoring both and it would do nothing.
I'm wondering if there's a reason for this..
I'm trying to figure this out, first time I've ever had Works do this, before I reformated that is.
Hi. I'm helping my grandparents with their new laptop and am showing them how to use the Works Word Processor. For some reason, after the first time we send something to print with multiple copies, it will only ever then print 1 copy even when you specify you want more. Has anyone come across this before and know of any solution, as its very annoying to have to print single sheets each time! Thanks in advance
For some reason, when I click on on Microsoft Works, I get a quick flash of it trying to open & then NOTHING!!
I have sooo many important saved documents that I really need to be able to open again...
I have gotten rid of Microsoft Money & maybe Microsoft Office as well but not sure...
Any ideas on what I can try??
From how you describe it,it looks as if something is denying it.such as your firewall or if you are using Firefox you might not have it as allowed, these are just guesses however, take a look at this site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241165
I have some old files transferred from a previous computer that say they are "Microsoft Works Word Processor" files. I have a version of Works on my current machine, but its word processor element appears to be Word. Word does not like these files. I am pretty sure that I have tried to OpenOffice them as well.
Any ideas of a free prog that will read these or, even better, convert them to a more standard format?
I used ABC Amber text convertor to convert a batch of old works files to word. Check it out here.
I have had a search of the forum and can't find a solution to this, so apologies if it is a known / obvious fix for the experts!
I have created a document in Word 2000 that includes some "Windings" symbols. In opening the document on other machines in Word 97, some of them have changed font colour and turned into "Wingdings 2" and others have remained in "Wingdings" but changed font colour.
Wingdings is definitely an installed font on the machines I have tried, and it appears to be a consistent change on those different machines (i.e. replaced characters are the same and colour changesare the same).
[We are all appear to be using the same printer drivers and are using Windows 98]
Slight error in the above. Gone back to original machine and checked document. When opening in Word 97 the font isn't actually changing as I did use "Wingdings 2" in the original anyway, but clolours are changing and the actual symbol used in "Wingdings 2" has changed.
So basically the two problems are:
1 - font colours are changing on all the symbol font characters (whether "Wingdings" or "Wingdings 2").
2 - a different symbol is being used for those in "Wingdings 2" on the Word 97 machines.
I was in MS Word 2007 the other day when I found a perfect font for a title. Knowing that I'd want to use it in other formats, I opened up Photoshop & InDesign to create a larger version of it. However, Photoshop refuses to use the font (you select the font and it just disappears). I did a little research on the internet and found out that the font I'm trying to use, Gautami, is supposed to look like this:
Gautami - Version 1.21
However, I opened up the otf file and got this preview (which is what I'm looking for!)
Here it is in MS Word:
And now in Photoshop:
Can anybody tell me why this is happening? Did my fonts get switched up somehow? I'm dying to use the font as seen in the Word document :/
Thanks a lot for your time!
LMAO - apparently, word automatically put it in Arial because it can't interpret that font. Thanks and sorry for bothering!http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/233533-font-only-works-word.html
Whilst using Word the font size keeps changing. I have to keep using the zoom slider to return to 100% which is so annoying. Can anyone help please?https://forum.toshiba.eu/showthread.php?88800-Using-Word-font-size-keeps-changing
The computer I am currently using has Microsoft works, useless in my opinion. When I create a document in the works word processor, and then try to send it to someone who does not have Works, it opens on their computer as a mish-mash of squares, symbols, letters, etc.
I tried saving it in another format, but the same result occured. Is there a solution to this other than spending a few hundred dollars on Office or Word? Thanks for any help.
Welcome to the forum.
Save it as a Rich Text Format file type (.rtf) or you can also have them install the converter which allows Word users to open up Works files.
I have done this before, successfully. Now when I go through the steps, and say YES to saving a default font, it does not save it. I am not messing with styles or anything else--just trying to change the default font for the Normal style. All the steps I try seem to work, but when I go back into Word, the change has not held.
Word 2000 default font is Times New Roman 12.
How can it be changed to, say, Georgian, Courier New, or other fonts & the size you want for it?
Ok, I've been using word for a long time now and recently downloaded and installed a new font, unfortunately when i tried using this font to type in microsoft word the program automatically changed the font back to times new roman after about 5 lines. I changed the font back to the one i had chosen to use and it took about a line and a half for word to revert back to times new roman without my consent or permission.
Is there a reason this happening and if so what can i do to fix it?
Not sure if it matters, but I'm using Word 2007.http://www.vistax64.com/software/283686-word-auto-changing-font-while-i-type.html
My younger brother was using the computer and while in Word he accidently chose some option that made the font go red. There was a narrow straight line to the left of the line where the font went a different colour. What was this and how would I get rid of it in the future ?
He has put "track changes" on.
This highlights added text by the colour, and indicates changed content areas with the left margin bar.

Hello, everyone. My name is Kaydee and I'm new to the board.
Can anyone tell me if there is a recovery process I can perform on a Compaq Presario to retrieve acidentally-deleted text?
If your running XP you may be able to do a system restore to before you deleted the text providing the document was resident on the system.
I have a list of 100 items and want to alphabetize the items. Does anyone know how to do this in Works word Processor?
just bought an word xp works 7.0 processor e-machine last week with pentium chip and MB memory nice fast machine just big enough to cope with AOL reason i had to let my old pc go it couldn t cope with memory xp works 7.0 word processor needed for AOL front-end loading in all my days i xp works 7.0 word processor never known a server provider to need as much pc memory to connect online Another problem has arised i m in the middle of sending off resumes by email all the technical agencies want your resumes posting in word doc format my problem is the new machine came with MS works which saves in wps format The word processor that comes with it is a terrible hashed version of WINWORD it is awful why are all the new machines being supplied with XP operating system that only allows MS works to run I ve tried to install WINWORD for XP but the system won t allow install so now i m stuck with a word processor that saves in wps when all the agencies use doc this must be happening to lots of people out there buying the latest machines I suppose it will be okay in a few years when everyone is using MS works this looks the way to go for word processing but at the moment they are not i ve spent the last few days going to sites and forums to look up people with similar problems and there are people just like me with my exact problem i ve looked for any clues or answers but none of them look like they will work so i m gonna have to rig up my old windows MB memory computer for word processing in WINWORD and use my new machine for connecting to AOL why do MS have to tinker with things they had a good system going with windows operating system and microsoft office installed nbsp
also...before anyone replies with:
works 7.0 allows you to save as .doc file,.....yes it does, but from what i've been reading on other sites when you open that works .doc file in WINWORD it screws it all up into a mess....I may as well just send my resume as a .txt file in notepad.
Also, there is a convertor software that allows conversion from .wps to .doc, but not all agencies who ask for your resume in .doc format will have this convertor software....and I heard that the convertor software also messes up the document...so there is no way around this. I'll have to wait a few years until i see agencies and companies wanting your resume sent in .wps format.
I have just done a clean install of W Ultimate bit on different Desktops One is a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo P the other originally an HP Pavillion which now has an Asrock Mobo I have reinstalled all my programs--no problems there I use MS Works Word Processor This worked fine on both DT's under XP However it now works only on the Fujitsu but not on the HP The problem is it doesn't find the Files in My Documents With Word Processor open when I try Processor 8 Word MS Works to open a Document the My Documents window comes up with the message No Files found---there is no list of Files shown---though all files are in place in My Docs Folder They can MS Works 8 Word Processor all be opened by individual clicking in that Folder---they just don't appear in Word I have repaired Word Processor---I have uninstalled it and reinstalled from original CD I have even cleared My Docs Folder and reloaded all Files---makes no difference I don't like MS Office---so who can tell me how to get this to work--as it does in the other PC---and as it did on both machines under XP SP I get no error messages of any kind Thanks Robbie

I have Wndows XP Home with Microsoft Works Word Processor.
I find that while writing the application continually/periodically fades back to a non-editable state and I have to continually re-click back on it so that my typing actually appears in the doc. Sometimes I have been writing for quite some time only to realise that it is not appearing in the doc. This becomes very frustrating when one is writing a manuscript.
I hope someone can shed light on why this is happening and what I can do to stop it?
Thanks in anticipation.
i have vista home premium. ffter about a year of cuuting/copying and pasting suddenly i have a message appearing ' unable to proceed as the as the transfer exceeds the limit of the word processor capacity' even when trying to copy one word or line. I believe this thread has appeared before but i have only just registered.
Here is a microsoft article on your problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/268762
Hi All I have had a rash of Windows error messages saying that Windows couldn't open Works Word Processor MS several of my wps files and saying that they might MS Works Word Processor be MS Works Word Processor corrupt I don't want to give up on those documents just yet so I downloaded a Microsoft Office Word Viewer the old one to see if I could open them with it Then following the installation instructions I clicked on the wdviewer exe installer and got yet another error message This one said Windows Installer The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation Now as I am the only system administrator of my PC and I haven't set anything like that that I can remember at least I would like to know where to look to see the policies that I'm supposed to have set Is that something that I would have done through the Control Panel or through the tools settings in Firefox and why would it only affect this one download I mean I download install and run everything else that I want to on this thing with no trouble so why would that program be any different Thanks for any help Wendy
Don't know what's going with the installation of the Word viewer, but I will tell you about opening up .wps files:MS Works and MS Word (full version) can open up .wps files. You would either have had to save the Works file as a .doc file first, or convert the file using Word after the Works Converter was added to your Word program.Read this Microsoft KB article regarding this issue: How to open a Works document in WordMy students have come to me many times for assistance with something like this, and without the converter, you can't open it. Rather, you can, but it looks like jibberish.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/272922/ms-works-word-processor/
I have MS Works Word Processor version 8.5 and it has worked perfectly for some time, but recently when I try to copy and paste it says "The information you copied exceeds the size limit for pasting into the word processor. Try reducing the size of your selection, & then copy & paste again" It doesn't matter how much I copy (5 words or 50 words) it does the same thing.
If I copy my information and paste it to notepad first then copy from notepad & paste to MS Works it works fine no matter how many words I copy.
This happens whether I copy from Internet explorer or other documentation.
Thanks for any ideas.
Win Vista Home Prem. SP2
Mine does the same thing.
My OS is Windows ME I had saved several word processor documents to CD disc and was working on one I closed it out then tried to open it again and got the following prompt quot Works can t open M report wps The file may be used by another application the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters or may be corrupt quot This happened to three other files processor works word MS on disc but the last one is ok Since I m not a wizard at this stuff is there anyway to get the files to open If it has been corrupted I MS works word processor m probably screwed If not what can I do The stuff on disc wasn t something I can duplicate from memory I made the file with Adaptic CD Creator which is also supposed to create regular CD-ROM type discs but I ve never been able to get it to do that I tried the program s own quot scan disc quot to repair it but it s a lot more limited than my computer s scan disc and it didn t seem to do much nbsp
1. You can't repair a CD-ROM with scandisk.
2. Files on CD-ROM cannot be changed unless you have a re-writable CD-ROM disk.
3. I would never suggest anyone even attempt to work directly from a CD-ROM, rewritable or not.
4. Copy files from CD-ROM to hard drive, then right-click in Windows explorer and remove the read-only under properties.
Ask in the Other Software forum about CD-writer software.
Sorry! Wish I could help more.
I got the new version of word today on my brand new computer and I need a word processor for my job, and its not letting me pick it as my default one. When I go to the control panel and try to do it from there, it still doesn't pick it up. Why is this happening and how can I go through and change it?
Hi all, just 2 weeks back i've come across a new problem in Word2000. I've a friend try to change the font sizes in Word 2000 when using Arabic Fonts. But she is unable to do that. But if she were to try changing the Arabic Fonts size in Excel 2000, she will be able to do that. I've tried logging on as another user id (Windows 2000) but the problem persist.
Have also tried to repair office, un-install/re-install office, re-create a new profile for her, but nothing seems to work.
Hi Folks- My wife is trying to write a short story on Microsoft Vista works word processor. The margin settings keep changing as she writes, no matter how many times she changes them back, they won't stay on the settings she has chosen....also after 2-3 pages of written text, the whole screen goes blank and she loses everything she has written. Any help would be greatly appreciated (before she throws her new computer through the wall.

First, remove your e-mail address immediately. Click edit under your first post and you can then delete it.
Second, welcome to TSG!
Third, Works-doesn't, I'd get Open Office. You can download the whole office suite free.
It is compatible with MS office files by saving document as word type file.
Is there a way to turn word processor to Spanish or do I have to clean sweep my computer and turn the whole thing to Spanish???
This is probably a dumb question with a simple solution but, so far, I can't figure it out. I'm trying to write an outline for a research paper using Microsoft Works on my new Dell laptop with Windows Vista installed. Problem:
Every time I try to type a lower case letter (for sub-section of outline) as soon as I type a period or make a space, the small "a" immediately changes to a capital "A"(which I can only use under Roman numerals).
What am I doing wrong or how can I adjust this error?
Will appreciate any solutions. Thanks.
Ah, the joys of the intuitive Microsoft selection of programs... What you need to do is open up the program options for auto-correct and tell it to stop doing automatic capitalization. If you like this feature, you could type "A. " (with the space), select the "A" and then type "a", and then click after the space.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/problem-with-works-word-processor-194609.html
I've just been to see a machine which is running Works v7. The problem is that the word processor is unusable because it is going too slowly. It's "running" on WinXP and when I check the system performance I see that it (WksWp.exe) is using around 99% CPU time even though it's not actually doing anything. There is also the sound of much disk activity.
Is this a known "design feature" or is something going wrong elsewhere? I'm told it's been like this since the m/c was first bough a couple of months ago and no other application shows this behaviour.
>> It's "running"
Sorry, but LOL.
>> Is this a known "design feature"
Stop it, you're killing me.
Err, apparently yes.
Im in the process of typing my term paper. I have works word and i start typing in it, like half way done it freezes. I restart the computer does the same thing, it doesnt freeze right away. i have win 98 thanks.
Does this freeze happen with other programs? If so, then perhaps the processor chip is getting too hot and everything will lock as you stated. If it's a desktop, make sure the fan on the processor is spinning and a wire is not touching it (causing the fan to not spin).
My sister was running word processor like 2days ago and it was fine now i try to use it and it tells me the following >>>
>>>>>Windows Cannot access the specified device, path or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. ????
The path is >>> C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\wkswp.exe
What does this mean and what's wrong with it? the rest of microsoftw orks is working fine i even uninstalled it and reinstalled it but it did not solved that problem any help pls? :'(
Does anybody have an idea how to change the default font and text size for footnotes in word 2003. I can do it manually as in highlight and right click the text and set the font that i want. But as soon as i insert another footnote it reverts back to the original font setting and not the one that i previously specified.
Edit: I should add that this is in an existing 80 page document.
I have been trying to copy and past into MS works word processor. but I get a message that says "the information you copied exceeds the size limit for pasting into the word processor. Please try reducing the size of your selection.
What does that mean. I've never had a problem copying and pasting before. But it was on a different computer. This computer is less then a year old and runs windows vista. Do you have any idea what is wrong here and how do I fix it?
Are you using Rich Text Format?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/268762http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/297596/copy-and-pasting-into-ms-works-word-processor/
I have created some flyers in open office on an older computer than let me go to a font size of 96. Now using Works 7.0 word processor I find it only goes up to 72. Is there some way to get larger fonts?
In Word at least you can highlight the font-size, then over-type with whatever size. Try that in Works-WP
I have Microsoft Works 8 and all of a sudden the Word Processor isn't loading. Everything else is still working. I have unistalled this program and reinstalled it, but still the Word Processor doesn't work. The error message I get is "Microsoft Word Processor wkswp.exe - entry point not found" It also makes a reference that the dynamic link library could not be found. Why is this not working and everything else in Works 8 is running ok?
Any help on this would be great.
I believe this rhread has been dealt with some time before i registered but...after i year without any problem in this regard, my microsoft word processor is giving me a message when i try to cut and paste ie: 'the information you wish to transfer exceeds the size limit of the word processor'
This happens even when cutting or copying one word or line!
When I try pasting from the internet into works word processor it freezes and closes. Just recently started doing this. Please help.
My friend uses MS Works (version 8 or 8.5, I imagine, as her computer is a little over a year old) on a Vista operating system. When starting its word processor in whatever form, using a shortcut or from the Start menu, for example, the word processor fills part of the screen only. The maximise button has no effect. The bottom edge can be dragged to the bottom of the screen, but the side edges cannot be dragged left or right in the same way. Every attempt to obtain a full screen image has failed. This applies to the word processor only and has only recently occurred; the spreadsheet continues to open properly, for example.
My Works 8.5 word processor won't open. A box tells me that it has gone into recovery mode. I've tried rebooting with no luck. Does anyone know how to get my program back?
I'm using Windows Vista on a Compaq desktop. When using the MS Works Word Processor it is always on "Times New Roman and font size 10". I don't use either of those but the processor is determined to make me like and use them. So anything I do is an excuse for it to go right back to them and I have to switch back to what I like and it is a pain. Grrrrr!
My question: Is there any way I can lock my preferences, for instance Arial and 12 font size?
I need a step by step list to make the font sizes of my return address envelopes bigger by about two levels. I am happy with the font size of the delivery address default, but the return address default is too small. The guide I found on line wasn't very helpful, as it read like brain surgery!
I have legacy Word experience using Word 97-2003, and envelope settings were much easier to select on those versions! Note that I want to keep the return address envelope font size as the default envelope setting.
I would like to have Candara as the default font for the above programs instead of it reverting to Times New Roman each time.
Is this possible please?

Reboot after any changes you make.
I need help uninstalling an add-in to Microsoft Works Suite 2006. I downloaded a program that helped me remove the actual program, Microsoft Works, but the add-in is still stuck and I can not for the life of me get this add-in to unisnstall.. This hole thing has been causing me problems for sometime now, it keeps making my WIndows Installer pop up flashing on the screen about fifty percent of the time I'm on my laptop. I have windows 7 if you need that information, I realize now the program has compatible issues..I finally got the program gone someone please help!! It is call Microsoft Works Suite Add-In for Microsoft Word.
Every time someone sends me a word file attached in an email , it comes thru in Works. When that happens, any comments on the sidebar are automatically lost. I need to receive files in MS word, not works.
I tried to follow your instructions to change my default to Word but when I try that, I do not see Word as an option , but I do see everything but that. I could sure use some help. I wondered what would happen if I deleted Works from my PC?
I am running Windows 7 with MS Word 10. I thank you for any assistance.
What is works?
Word 2007, which I've used for years, didn't come with my new computer, but Works 9 did. In order for recipients who have Word to open word processing documents I create with Works 9, I've been changing the Save As from (*.wps) to (*.doc) on each one, before sending. Is there some way I can change the default Save As to (*.doc), so I don't have to remember to change it every time?http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/how-can-i-change-save-as-default-in-works-9-word-processor-432855.html
I bought a new Computer about 7 weeks ago With Vista home premium pre-installed on it, along with Microsoft works word processor 8.5 and I can't paste text into a document with works word even when I'm trying to copy only a few words. It only happens with web pages and stuff like that, but I could Copy and paste stuff like that in XP to notepad, Word pad, etc. Can I not do that anymore or do I need a new Program or something. It says"the information you copied exceeds the size limit for pasting into word processor. Try reducing the size of your selection, and then try copying and pasting again." I have to go to paste special and selecting unformatted text. How can I fix it so I don't have to do that, because it gets really annoying?
Was it possible to print a document that has a unique font and you are going to save it in a pen drive and print it to another computer??
I mean, is there any trick so the font will be preserve?or what?
I think it all depends on whether that font is available on the pen drive. What happens when you try it?http://www.sevenforums.com/microsoft-office/183584-microsoft-word-font-issue.html
When I select the font I want using view>format>font, the next time I use Word it always comes back to New Times Roman. What can I do to make it stay at what I selected until I want to change it again? Thank you.

I've been using Microsoft Works Word Processor for a processor of because nulls not searchable Works word embedded files few years on Windows and it works fine However I was dismayed to find out that I cannot do a bulk search for text across multiple files It turns out that Works embeds nulls between each character So CAT in a file is C null A null T null There is no way with any search program that I know of to search all the wps files in a folder Works word processor files not searchable because of embedded nulls that have the word quot CAT quot in them I could keep two copies of every file one in txt format but my goodness what a pain So I'm looking for a A program that will do bulk searches of wps files embedded nulls are tricky you really can't type them in or b Another program that is similar to Works Office is NOT similar to Works it's a pain in the neck to use Any help would be great appreciated Thanks Donald
Hi Donalds, welcome to the Seven Forums.
It's years since I have even seen Microsoft Works, I am afraid I am not able to tell you how to search files with those embedded nulls.
However, if I recall it correctly Works can also save using the Rich Text Format (.rtf). If so, you could try if the document content is searchable when saved as .rtf. If so, you would not only solve your issue but also make your documents more interchangeable, as the .rtf files can be shared, opened and edited with almost every modern word processor.
Trying to remember the various features of Microsoft Works word processor, I think I'm not too much wrong by recommending you the Windows 7 native WordPad word processor, to use it instead of Works. WordPad has all features needed for composing, editing and formatting complex documents. It also handles embedded images very nicely.
I bought a new Computer about 6 weeks ago With Vista home premium pre-installed on it, along with Microsoft works word processor 8.5 and I can't scroll up or down the Documents and get to a certain point. It just Goes really fast from the top to the bottom and I can't get to the middle of a document. Also, I can't paste text into a document with works word without going to paste special and selecting unformatted text. How can I fix it?
I Windows XP Pro, SP2.
Can you change the default folder that displays when you open a file in the Works word processor? It always displays My Documents. I'd like to have it display something else or at least the last folder you were in. Like in WordPad.
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me.
I have a document that was emailed to me that I need to answer questions in and then email it back.
I want to make all my answers in red bold fonts.
But after each word I type and then hit enter, the fonts change back to the origional color.
Is there a way to temperarly lock this until all the questions are answered?
I started a new word document today and the font is too small to read. I restored my computer to a week ago, and problem still exists. font is o.k. on all other programs. Does anyone know how to correct this? thanks. ruthearlene
On the word page there should be a "font" number size in the top task bar. Chose the font you like...http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/489093/font-on-microsoft-word-documents-error/
Operating System Windows XP home sp2
My Microsoft Word program has for some reason locked Times New Roman font style in BOLD type on my document creating page. I have gone to Format-font and set the style to REGULAR which is what I want and had previously--(a correct preview is displayed) but when I hit the default button the font style does not change back in Word !
I have repeated this several times but my word page still types in Bold! I have checked other using other font styles and everything shows BOLD.
Help please, Tom
You can try searching your computer and deleting/renaming the file Normal.dot which is the template that Word uses for all documents. To find the location of your template file click TOOLS >> OPTIONS >> FILE LOCATIONS and then select User Templates in your list of file types and click the modify button and the path to your template file will be displayed.
It's usually something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
After finding this file in your computer, rename it to something else like Normal.Old or delete it completely and then open Word. Word should automatically recreate the Normal.dot template for you. If it works properly after renaming the template file, you can delete the old one since a new one will have already been created.
NOTE: Normal.dot may be hidden so you may have to go into your Window Explorer options and change them to show hidden files and folders before doing your search.
(MY COMPUTER --> TOOLS --> FOLDER OPTIONS --> VIEW --> SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS)
I have a problem. I bought a new laptop and the font is quite different to the font I use on my windows 8. Please can someone help me to fix this problem?
Here's the right font.
My font now in Windows 10 - Word 2013.
The wrong font and how it looks. It looks weird and "skinny". I have no idea. I read some tutorial about DPI and if I disabled it from the compatibility. I did that and this didn't change. For now I'm using my old laptop because this is such a frustrating problem. Please help me to fix it.
Thanks a lot.

I am running Microsoft Works XP and have used the Word Processor to create a resume. I have saved the resume to My Documents. I have sent it out as an attachment to e-mail. Those receiving the e-mail say they get an error message that they can not open the program. The receivers usually ask me to resend as a Word Document. As far as I know it was orginally sent as a word document. Does anyone have any idea of what is wrong and how to fix it???
what is the extension? . . .doc?
just deleted micorosoft works and installed microsoft word(office) BUT now i cant open my old works documents? I have read alot about this but just wanted to check here before i did anything. Im sure i know what to do but just wanted to see what other methods are suggested? thanks!
What version are you using?
e.g. for 2003:
Hi Everybody I have been using the word processor in Microsoft Works Version to do a lot of writing and I have just had a devastating experience with it When I had first started using it I had learned Processor Word Microsoft Trouble With early on that I had better be making a habit of saving my work regularly or the Microsoft Grinch would jump up and tell me how sorry it was that Microsoft Works had encountered a problem and wanted to go home without letting me save my Trouble With Microsoft Word Processor work So saving my work after ever third of forth paragraph has become a habit with me and that's what makes what happened to me today even more puzzling I'm running Windows XP home edition with SP I had seven or eight IE browsers open doing some research and trying to get some photos downloaded for the project that I'm working on SpyBot started telling me about a change that had been made saying quot User-Specific browser toolbar value deleted quot and something about BarLayout At the same time whichever IE I was using when that message had popped up would quit letting me copy paste But then when I would close that browser I would get another SpyBot alert saying that that same value had been added The only action that SpyBot would accept in either case was for me to press the OK key otherwise it just kept spitting back that same alert At the same time I was using Yahoo messenger to chat with a friend and things just started going haywire So I hurried up to save and close everything that I had open and clicked the restart button to turn my PC off just to get everything back under control Then comes the devastating thing that I spoke of earlier When I tried to open my document after I had gotten my PC restarted it wouldn't open Instead I get a little message saying that works can't open the file because it might be in use by another program I finally managed to get it to open by using the quot recover all text thingy but when It did open oh my There were a couple of really messed up paragraphs above the title of my document and all that remained of the body was about ten of the rough draft that I had started working from and none of what I had written over the past several days This pointing down was at the bottom of the document Daine's haS Definition Term Definition Term Definition List Definition List Address Address Blockquote Blockquote Preformatted Preformatted z-Bottom of Form z-Bottom of Form z-Top of Form z-Top of Form Times New Roman Times New Roman Courier New Courier New HP Officejet series Letter Letter Letter none none none none lt Automatic gt lt Automatic gt General Everyday Printing General Everyday Printing Microsoft Works Word Processor Microsoft Works Word Processor wkswp exe C Program Files Microsoft Works wkswp exe C Program Files Microsoft Works wkswp exe winspool HP Officejet series USB I HAD A GOOD WEEKEND Ch amp Re-Done wps I HAD A GOOD WEEKEND Ch amp Re-Done wps Quill Story Group Class Has anyone else ever had this happen Do any of you know of anything that I might be able to do to recover what I lost Oh and one other thing I had also gotten several quot IE Error ffff quot error massages when those browsers had gone wacky Any help of advice on this thing will be greatly appreciated Thanks Wendy
I am not a great authority, but it looks like you may have prematurely closed the Works document especially if you were downloading something that you were incorporating into the text. The garbage at the bottom of the recovered document seems to be formatting information. I doubt that a good saved copy now exists, especially if you have saved over any prior file name.
When I am working on a document that is of much length, I generally do a manual save at a good place to stop (chapter one, for example) and then continue, but rename the file and perform periodic saves to the new file. That way, if one of these doesn't "take" I can at least retrieve a large portion of the text by returning to the saved document (chapter one). Later, I can always merge the major saved portions.
I want to set up a address book in Microsoft word processor and can't find any way of doing this. The site asks me to merge my address book and I don't have one to merge. Is there a method to bypass merge?
All of a sudden when I open Microsoft Works Word Processor it enlarges all of the icons on my desktop and makes my pictures look distorted. Also, the program it'self is very large on my screen. Help!
I've got a template in my Word documents that I reuse often and today when I was entering new information there were several error notices (that little gray box) "Microsoft noticed an error and must close" and even though I re- opened and I saved it - now when I open the document the font is completely different (HUGE) and it won't allow me to change it. Before I create a new document and copy and paste it correcting the size difference to the new one is their way to bring the document back to the way it was before?
Sorry - it seems that the error that was caused by Microsoft closing only affected the document when I accessed it through "start". When I opened My Documents - it opened the correct version. Sorry I didn't check that before posting!
When I want to copy and paste something like text from a web page, I have to copy and paste it in notepad, then copy it and put in my word processor. I have to copy and paste pictures seperately. I want to know how to copy and paste text and pictures directly from web page to word processor. Can any one help me?
This is really weird. Can you highligt the text on web page, right click and choose Copy. Then, go to your Microsoft Word, right click on page and click Paste. Did it work? Or what you can see when you do like that?
