Switching memory

Q: Switching memory

My E: has a free 12 gigs and I was wondering if I could somehow switch that to my C: The C: doesn't have enough memory to complete the task I have to do. Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Switching memory

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was told to repartition my hard drive, which I did. However, now my computer only wants to use the memory on my C drive, which it only has around 3 GB free, instead of using the 'New Volume' D drive, which is still empty. My computer believes I don't have memory and now I can't bring in more songs for my Itune because it will run out of memory when I know I have more free. I use Windows Vista on a Dell Inspirion E1505 computer. Can anyone help me?

Hi guy's just wondering if it's possible to get windows 7 to switch audio drivers when you switch to another user account.

For eg.. normal speakers device for my personal account and then have my multichannel device (profire 2626) set as default for my other user account 4 studio work.

Atm, if i change it on one account it changes on the other account which is annoying and i'd just like to set default device for each account so i don't have to do this.

Thx

A:vid cam switching

Your video software is probably looking for the camera on the serial port now.

If it has configuration settings somewhere, you may be able to tell it that the camera is USB, not serial.

If not, you will have to reinstall the software.

Yes, I had a spare Hard Drive laying around, and I'm considering installing windows 7 on it. However, it will void my warranty if it ends up screwing up. However, the only problems with the damn thing are Hard Drive crashes. Dell is sending me a new hard drive tomorrow to replace the crashed one.

So, I was wondering, would I be able to switch out hard drives easily in case the one that might have W7 on it crashes (without having to deal with DELL so they won't find out)

Thank you,

Hello,

That topic has been subject of several painful headaches for me. I have tried searching the forum but can't seem to find the answer.

I am currently running Vista 32 And would like to switch to 64. My system is 64 compatible And i have 4 gig of ram.

1 : where do I get the software. I have a genuine 32 bits.

2 : how could i backup my whole system ?

3 : is there a free upgrade (or discount) for Windows 7

thank you !

Unless you recently purchased your computer and have a coupon to upgrade to Win 7, you're gonna have to buy the OS.

Purchasing info:

you can purchase with educational pricing if you qualify.

Otherwise, you can purchase from vendors such as www.tigerdirect.com

I was wondering if anyone knows how to move Windows 7 license from one PC to another. I originally installed it on my desktop to try it out but I want to move it to my laptop.

A:Switching PC's

Either change the license key of Windows 7 on your desktop, or format the drive so that it's no longer in use (it is against the EULA to use the same license on multiple machines at once). If you ran out of activations you will need to call up Microsoft and explain the situation.

You'll need to clone the 40 to the 400. Seagate (and maybe samsung) have a utility that can do that for you. Or you could use Norton Ghost or Acronis TrueImage or something like that, but those cost money.

Hello there

My computer has started to randomly reboot itself with a message "your computer has recovered from a serious error"appearing. It also has started to freeze quite alot and will only work when manually rebooted.

Anyone got any advice please

A:Switching itself off

Hi scarisbrick, welcome to TSF..

Before the problem started, did you install any new software or hardware?

It would also be a good idea to find out your system temperatures and voltage readings as that would help diagnose any possible heat or PSU issues. You can do this with freeware programs such as SpeedFan or SensorsView (both can be found easily via Google).

Do you hear any weird 'clicking' sounds coming from inside the box? Also, when booting do you hear any beeps?

Finally, if you go into your Event Log, you should be able to get more information on the stop errors as that would probably point us in the right direction to finding out whats causing the problems. To access your Event Log, click Start -> Run -> type: eventvwr.msc -> Click OK. Expand the System section and post back on errors which are logged at the same time as the freezes or reboots.

Hello,

Presently have my desktop pc connected via an ethernet cable to my house Router.
The Router talks to my Comcast box.

If I get an additional PC for my kid, due to space limitations, they would both be located pretty close

We can share a single Monitor between us by just using one of those HDMI switches, but would rather
not switch physically the Ethernet cable.

Could a new PC connect to the Internet wirelessly via the Router, while leaving the original

I'm considering swtiching from Win XP Pro to Win 7.

'm running a Dual boot pc, both with Win XP Pro. If I install Win7, will I be able to load Win 7 on both HDs so i can still dual boot?

What if i have to reformat my HD, will I need to buy another license? I never had any problems with my Win XP license.

A:Before switching over to win 7

To install Win 7 twice you'd need two licenses for Win 7, same as you should have two licenses for XP to dual boot. If you only have one XP license, you are violating the EULA.
If you only have one XP license, you would need an upgrade version of Win 7, and a Full version of Win 7 to dual boot. If you want to dual boot XP and Win 7, you'd need the Full version of Win 7. If you get an upgrade version, you can no longer use the version of Windows that you upgraded, until you uninstall Win 7.

Reformating does not require a new license. If you are using an upgrade version, you can't just show it the old CD during the install as you could with version proir to Vista. MS says you would have to first install XP, then upgrade again, but there are ways around that.

I've had enough of "getting used to" Win 8. I am going to instal Win 7 and get 8 off my laptop. The question is whether to go with Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack (Software) or Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack.
I am not a builder, just an end user. I have read where someone had trouble when he installed 7 over 8 but used the home edition and when he changed out the hard disc it wouldn't let him reinstall 7. I don't mind paying the extra if its needed but I do not want a lot of extra gear meant for system builders.

As long as you do not break any of the Dell shipped hardware when adding any 3rd party hardware, the warranty is still good. But if you were to crack the case cover or damage the motherboard pins while doing this, we would not cover them.

At the beginning of last year I put together a new box with a 1.5 T WD cav. blk. Installed W7 and was up and running. Because of family matters I never got to use it very much. during that time I purchased an OCZ Agility 4. Decided to replace the WD with the OCZ. Thought it would be a snap! disconnected the WD and connected the OCZ. Put the W7 disc in and the first thing it asked for was a driver? Boy was I surprised! After reading the post on drivers I now know I will have to go to OCZ for drivers. My question is I remember reading about a way you could transfer your operating system from your HDD to a SSD. Is there any one out there that could give me some info on this? It sure would help not to have to start from scratch. Thank you for any help or info!

Ok, so my birthday is comming up and I was thinking of upgrading my RAM in my laptop. It currently has 2GB and I want to upgrade it to 5GB. I know I will need to have 64 Bit Windows 7 to take advantage of all that RAM. Will it be possible to reinstall Windows only using the 64 Bit version and use the Key that I got with my laptop? I heard that it is interchangable as long as you don't switch versions (like from Home Premium to Ultimate) and don't switch computers.

A:Switching to 64 Bit?

Hello there.

The easiest way to go would be to upgrade to 4GB or 6GB, but 5GB? it's kind of senseless (no offense, senseless in a "weird" way) because you'd have to buy a 2GB module and a 1GB one..

BTW, try to find the same RAM vendor/model and timings, mixing RAMs is not a good idea

I downloaded that patch at the end of the thread and am now scanning it with the trendmicro housecall online scanner which will prob take all day on her computer!!

Now, when that is completed I should be good to go with the SP2 update??

40GB hard drive
CD-RW Drive
DVD-Rom Drive
64mb nVidia video card

thanks for anyone who can help

A:Switching from XP?

id say its worth betwen ?170 and ?250 depending on where you sell it and whther you include monitor, operating system etc.

also switchin to macintosh is not that bad, it takes a bit of time to get used to the layout but its quite easy to use, although baring in mind some programs on windows arent available on macintosh and although most arem, they are not as up to date as windows version would be.

Hi.

I need some help switching from Windows XP to another operating system without any professional help. If there are any guides or something it would be a big help if someone could point me to one.

Also I haven't decided which OS to switch to yet so any suggestions are appreciated and will definatley be considered. I use my computer mostly for downloading (pirating ) music and looking things up on the internet. Not much more than that.

In case anybody is wondering why I want to switch it's because I don't trust Microsoft's products after some things that I've heard about them. I don't believe I can trust them with my privacy anymore.

Thanks.

I've always hated IE and loved Firefox, but Firefox seems to be going downhill on the stability side. Mine crashes all the time, even without extensions or anything. IE8 is performing very very well for me on Windows 7. I hate to say this, but I think Firefox is dying.

A:Switching to IE

have had firefox do that to me before -- a complete uninstall (wiping all user files) then reinstall recovered it -- bookmarks/passwords etc all backed up so nothing lost ..... never thought of going back to IE, never had to.
First browser I used much was netscape whose code firefox is based on ... didn't think much of IE when it came along with Win95 ... nothing much changes there

At the current time, the only programming language I know is VB, and I want to expand into C/C++. The problem I have is that the way I taught myself VB was primarally through programming games, and C(++) lacks the built-in support for graphics. This makes it hard to work up motavation to learn C or do anything with it.

The question is: where would I need to look to get the ability to create non-console/graphical programs in C/C++?

Whatever the solution, it needs to work in Windows.

A:switching to C

Evilmrhenry,

If memory serves me correctly, (I haven't checked out the site in months) you may find a "freebie" download using the link below. I dug this one out of mothballs. I have a footnote with it "write graphical programs using C++". I hope it solves your problem if you haven't found something already.

Has anyone here had any success in switching mobo's over from VIA to NF2 without having to re-format and re-install the OS? Seems like a lot of extra crap to go through to change mobo's.
Seems like there would be some way to delete or clean out all the VIA drivers?? Mike

A:switching from VIA to NF2

changing motherboards is nearly always call for a reformat seeing as just about everything (IDE, AGP, System, USB etc) drivers are replaced. You might be able to unistall the VIA drivers but other than that a reformat is best for speed and stabilty.
Hope that helps

When was the last time you tried it out? There has been a number of changes. No Amazon Music though, and I don't know about Bleacher Report to answer that. Instagram is great on Windows 10 Mobile and is actually updated decently. I don't use Facebook to tell you how that is.

A:Switching over HDD's

I recommend doing it the way that you want to

I can't tell you how many thousands of times I have plugged another HardDrive in internally, then backed up, without issue. (as long as not set to boot from the secondary harddrive )

It is possible that Windows (not the boot part though) may assign different drive letters to your CD\DVD drive or new HardDrive
This is normal
When the HardDrive is later removed
And Windows starts up again (with the original HardDrive)
Any drive letter change will return to as it was before

Note: C: will not change drive letters (but external USB drives may <- eg just for the sake of the argument)

Go for it :grinthumb

Not quite sure where to post this and not sure that I even really want the answer. I'm assuming that it's hardware related but may be wrong.

This has happened twice now. Once a month or so ago and just now again.

I was working with a few windows open and a couple of apps, can't remember exactly but probably word, photoshop elements, IE, Outlook...

Without any warning, screen goes black and machine goes into reboot.

Now this has happened a second time I am concerned.

Does this description give anyone any ideas as to what the cause might be?

I don't think it was such a good idea with me doing that since he only has 256 MB of RAM and the power is like 2 GHz which is okay I guess. But, would it be a good idea to add my old 512 MB of RAM from my old computer to his computer? I tried doing this before to my sister's computer, but the computer completely stopped functioning and smelled like it was burning. I'm not sure if I should go ahead and give it a shot or not. Secondly....I made a complete hard drive image of my primary hard drive with all of my apps installed....Can this be used after I install the 64bit version of my OS or am I reinstalling everything?

Thanks

You will have to install all applications. All except for the so called "portable" applications (usually quite small) and you probably don't have many of those.

I bought a Z50-75 a few months ago. Occasionally it switches itself off without any warning at all. Sometimes this happens a couple of minutes after switching on, sometimes after 30 mins, most times it doesn't happen. I don't move the laptop around much so I don't think it is a problem with overheating (else why is there such a variance in behaviour ?) Does anyone have any idea why this is happening ? Thanks.

Alright, i downloaded Vista RC1 back in August, and have been using it ever since and have loved it. When I installed Vista, i know that it made a folder in order to put all of my XP files so i could reach them again, and I assumed that meant I could get onto XP whenever i wanted through MS DOS. I'm trying to load some music onto my cell, and the way it is set up, it requires XP since Vista deleted the loophole it used. Problem is, i cant figure out how to get into XP again. I remember there being something to do with pressing a certain button when the computer starts up, but i have no clue what button that is or when. Any help would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!!!!

A:Switching OSs

You cannot use xp again. At least not without wiping out the disk and reinstalling.
From your post it sounds like you installed vista to the same partition you had xp installed in. If you wanted to use both os, you needed to install vista into another partition. You would then be presented with a boot menu when you start the system [so as to choose which os you want]

BTW vista setup gives you a warning message to the effect that when you install to a partition that already contains an os it will put those files in a folder for you HOWEVER you will not be able to use the previous os. You have access to the files for data / backup purposes however the previous os will not function.

We live in the UK and are switching from BT to Tiscali.

This is really frustrating, and can someone please remind me of what actually happens when you connect to broadband for the first time? I keep reading about activating it with a "username and password given to you (or selected by you) from the ISP"....

But, with my current BT account, I could buy a completely new router, or reset my current router back to factory settings and/or even bring 2 different computers into the house, and I would never have to enter this password. So it's only on the initial first connection? Where do I go or what do I do with windows or linux to get to the screen which prompts me for this mysterious username and password?

A:Switching ISP

Depends on the broadband. Normally, cable does not require a login, but ADSL does. Most folks place a router between the modem and the network. That way, you only have to put the username/password in the router and never have to worry about it again.

As a boogy bonus, you don't have to install anything on the computers on the network.

Hello,
I'm currently running Windows Vista and XP in dual boot on separate hard drives. It's really annoying to have to restart my PC and fart around with the bios settings to boot from the hard drive (OS) I want.

Striker Extreme
Intel Q6600 Duo Quad
8800 Ultra
4GB RAM

My first question: Is there any way I can choose which hard drive/operating system I want to boot up from a windows splash screen?

Secondly: In an ideal world I want to be able to switch between operating systems (Vista/XP per example) whilst in one or the others explore screen (desktop). I have researched programs like VirtualPC but would like to know if there is there another way of doing this without forking out for the software?

Thanks in advance

A:OS Switching

The only way you can switch between OS in windows is how you already mentioned virtually.
To dual boot it is better if both the OS's are on the same drive in separate partitions.
This way through a boot loader the default will OS will load unless you choose a different OS at startup
Another way is two pc's and switch between using a kvm switch, which is what I use here also good for backup

A:XP Keeps switching off

It could be a hardware problem, but we should start here:

Right-click My Computer and click on Properties.
Click the Advanced tab and in the 'Startup and Recovery' section click Settings.
In the 'System Failure' section check these boxes:
'Write an event to the system log'.
'Send an Administrative alert'.
Uncheck the 'Automatically restart' box.

Go to Start => Run and type in "eventvwr.msc" {without the quotes}

Look under Applications and System for any Errors (with the red cross icon) at about the time of the failure. Double-click on these for more information and a hyperlink (in blue) to a possible solution from Microsoft's database. These error messages often don't help much, but can sometimes give us a clue. The more essential information is the EventID, the faulting module, file or process, the Error Code from the blue screen. If you're still not sure, click the double-page notepad-type icon which copies the error information to the clipboard. Paste into Notepad and/or into your next post. If there are many Errors, collect them into one Notepad .txt file and attach it to your next post.

==========================

Create a minidump crash log

Right-click My Computer and click on Properties.
Click the Advanced tab and in the 'Startup and Recovery' section click Settings.
In the 'System Failure' section check these boxes:
'Write an event to the system log'.
'Send an Administrative alert'.
Uncheck the 'Automatically restart' box.

In the 'Write debugging information' section, select 'Small memory dump (64KB)'.

The next time you experience a crash, the computer will blue screen, an event will be written to the Event Viewer, and a minidump file will be created.
The minidump file(s) are located in C:\Windows\minidump. They are dated - month-day-year. You can attach this folder to your next post. If possible, zip it first.

Soon I will Switching over fo\rom Win 2000 to XP Pro. I have a home network and use a broadband connection. As XP is Different than W2000, I would like some advice as to how to setup the XP pro account and security settings for broadband... Should I use a password to log on the computer..ect.

A:Switching over to XP Pro

I use XP Pro and have Broadband through AOL, using the McAfee firewall so when I downloaded the latest version of SP2, it's firewall deferred to McAfee and everything went smoothly. My wife and I have separate logins but neither needs a password so we don't even get a Welcome Screen any more. To do that, I went from Start>Run and typed in control userpasswords2 and then hit Enter. Untick the "Users must enter etc" box in the Users tab and then set each account name and password for the system to remember.

As for your Broadband connection, you can connect with or without your browser client by setting up an old style dial-up connection but how you do this will depend on your MODEM or router.

While you have the opportunity to start afresh with XP Pro, I suggest you create a slipstream version of the OS with the SP2 and burn it on to a CD ready to install complete. Try to restrict the number of programmes that set themselves to auto start to save having to tinker with msconfig and wind up with a Selective startup. For the first time in four years with XP, I'm now on a normal startuip and boot from on-switch to dektop is 29 seconds. Selective will always take longer and has the potential to cause problems

Hello and welcome to the forums! My secret agent name on the forums is SweetTech (you can call me ST for short), it's a pleasure to meet you. I am very sorry for the delay in responding, but as you can see we are at the moment being flooded with logs which, when paired with the never-ending shortage of helpers, resulted in the delayed responding to your thread.I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. If you have since resolved the issues you were originally experiencing, or have received help elsewhere, please inform me so that this topic can be closed. If you have not, please adhere to the guidelines below and then follow instructions as outlined further below:Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze. I need you to be patient while I analyze any logs you post. Please remember, I am a volunteer, and I do have a life outside of these forums.
Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, all tools need to be started by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator!
If I instruct you to download a specific tool in which you already have, please delete the copy that you have and re-download the tool. The reason I ask you to do this is because these tools are updated fairly regularly.
Do not do things I do not ask for, such as running a spyware scan on your computer. The one thing that you should always do, is to make sure sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date!
Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
I am going to stick with you until ALL malware is gone from your system. I would appreciate it if you would do the same. From this point, we're in this together ;)
Because of this, you must reply within three days failure to reply will result in the topic being closed!
Please do not PM me directly for help. If you have any questions, post them in this topic.
Lastly, I am no magician. I will try very hard to fix your issues, but no promises can be made. Also be aware that some infections are so severe that you might need to resort to reformatting and reinstalling your operating system.
Don't worry, this only happens in severe cases, but it sadly does happen. Be prepared to back up your data. Have means of backing up your data available.____________________________________________________ One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan and password stealer. This type of infection allows hackers to access and remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it contains any other sensitive information, then from a clean computer, change all passwords where applicable. It would also be wise to contact those same financial institutions to appraise them of your situation.I highly suggest you take a look at the two links provided below:1. How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud, and CC Fraud?2. When should I re-format? How should I reinstall? We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. Let me know what you decide to do. Hi , just wondering , I have a 4GB laptop (dell inspiron n5010) with i3 350 processor and 500 GB HD ... lately I wanted to play the most recent GTA and what happened ? well the game booted but barely have i gone out of the first corner the whole background disappeared ... I went to my graphics settings and it says Generic PnP Monitor and Intel(R) HD Graphics
-Chip type Intel HD
-Dac type Internal
-Bios info : Intel Video BIOS
-Total Available graphics memory 1696 MB
-Dedicated Video Memory 64MB
-System Video memory 0MB
-shared system memory 1632MB

Is there any way to increase the Video memory on my laptop ?
I will add to it that in the Bios itself there are no options available for me to even lower it they are all kind of @[email protected]
I have been trying everything even updates from intel etc but not helping...

A:How to increase video memory in a shared memory system (Dell Inspiron n5010)

All you can do is max out your system memory, if it isn't maxed already. There might be an option in the laptops bios to increase the shared video memory

Is there a way to swap these values? default windows 8 drivers has 256 shared system memory but 0 dedicated video memory but after installing sis mirage 3+ drivers dedicated video memory has gone up to 256mb and shared system memory has gone low to 64mb. Editing sis drivers maybe? but how?

A:Swap Shared System Memory and Dedicated Video Memory values possible?

Shared memory is changed in the bios. Find the button to go into the bios and go under advanced or graphics, then look for video memory.

Hi Everyone from Bleepingcomputer.com,

I am facing some issues with my laptop.

I always noticed my CPU, Memory, Physical Memory usage are running quite high.

Wonder is it normal for my computer?

I always feel the temperature is quite high and my fan keep running fast all the time even with just running some lite program. Sometimes my computer also turned to Blue Screen.

Please find the attachments to see my Task Manager.

My windows xp 64 bit runs super slow after windows loading sign and it takes me 2 hrs to open up the desktop and transfer 6 images. I use 2 RAM's of 2gb (kingston DDR2). When I opened up BIOS, it showed 640k as base memory and 126m as extended memory.
There are no details under the computer title if I try to check the properties of computer or maybe it is just taking too much time to display. the desktop is fine, my computer still works but takes hours to do a simple task. it all started all of a sudden. Also I would like to know if 'unganged mode' is fine as it is displayed when the system boots. I tried to check another different RAM on the computer, but still no change, so I am confused regarding the problem.

Hello, I'm running a 64 bit Windows 10 laptop. On idle, the System process is showing a high memory usage of more than 150 MB, usually more than 200 MB. Using poolmon the pooltag SpDN showed up with a memory leak. It leads to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver, iaStorV.sys. How should I go about fixing the problem?

A:High memory usage / Memory leak caused by Intel driver

Hi,

Since this is a Intel driver I doubt the WDK can fix it.
You may try to see if there's a more current version of Intel's RST available for download and see if that fixes the leakage issue.

Cheers,

I have just bought some new memory, 2 x 1 gig, inserted it and ran the test. I get one error in the Stride38 test. Address expected is different to the one returned.

I know which chip it is, should I send it back, or is this 1 error acceptable for the system?

Thanks for your response

I know the question is awkward. So hopefully, I can explain it.

Say that I have a 500 GB external hard drive. But as it turns out, there's only 465 GB according to it and my computer. Why isn't there 500 Gb, but rather only 465? This also applies to mp3 players like iPods.

Why is this?

Can I do something to get back the "hidden" memory?

Hi I am helping my parents troubleshoot their trojan extreme causing slowness leak usage. or system Memory high memory and computers My feeling Memory leak or trojan causing extreme system slowness and high memory usage. is that they are both infected with the same virus trojan but I can find it or figure out what is going on The each have identical laptops and both are experience identical problems Both are running Avast and both systems are not turning up any discovered viruses or trojans during scans I am on the verge of completely refronting both of their laptops and am really hoping I can avoid having to do that I suspected that maybe they were both infected with poweliks but the below FRST shows at least Memory leak or trojan causing extreme system slowness and high memory usage. I think so that neither are infected with that trojan I am now thinking its a memory leak on some recent driver app update - but either trojan or memory leak I am not finding it Symptoms After a clean reboot within to hours both systems begin to get very sluggish both audio and video starts to skip and lag both mice bounce around like crazy when trying to move the pointer After about hours the laptops simply freeze to the point that they have to pull the Memory leak or trojan causing extreme system slowness and high memory usage. batteries to get them to shut off I had my Dad run FRST on his computer below are the results FRST Scan results FRST txt Scan result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool FRST txt x Version - - Ran by Preston administrator on PRESTON-HP on - - Running from C Users Preston Favorites Downloads Loaded Profiles Preston Available profiles Preston Platform Windows Home Premium Service Pack X OS Language English United States Internet Explorer Version Default browser FF Boot Mode Normal Tutorial for Farbar Recovery Scan Tool http www geekstogo com forum topic -frst-tutorial-how-to-use-farbar-recovery-scan-tool Processes Whitelisted If an entry is included in the fixlist the process will be closed The file will not be moved C Windows agent x exe HP C Program Files x HP SimplePass TrueSuiteService exe IDT Inc C Program Files IDT WDM stacsv exe DisplayLink Corp C Program Files DisplayLink Core Software DisplayLinkManager exe DisplayLink Corp C Program Files DisplayLink Core Software DisplayLinkUserAgent exe Avast Software s r o C Program Files AVAST Software Avast AvastSvc exe Avast Software s r o C Program Files AVAST Software Avast afwServ exe Carbonite Inc www carbonite com C Program Files Carbonite Carbonite Backup CarboniteService exe Garmin Ltd or its subsidiaries C Program Files x Garmin Core Update Service Garmin Cartography MapUpdate CoreService exe Hewlett-Packard Company C Program Files x HP Common HPSupportSolutionsFrameworkService exe Intel Corporation C Program Files x Intel Services IPT jhi service exe Microsoft Corp C Program Files Common Files Microsoft Shared Windows Live WLIDSVC EXE Microsoft Corp C Program Files Common Files Microsoft Shared Windows Live WLIDSVCM EXE Intel Corporation C Program Files x Intel Intel Rapid Storage Technology IAStorDataMgrSvc exe Intel Corporation C Program Files x Intel Intel Management Engine Components LMS LMS exe Intel Corporation C Program Files x Intel Intel Management Engine Components UNS UNS exe Microsoft Corporation C Windows System LogonUI exe HP C Program Files x HP SimplePass TouchControl exe DisplayLink Corp C Program Files DisplayLink Core Software DisplayLinkUI exe HP C Program Files x HP SimplePass BioMonitor exe Intel Corporation C Windows System hkcmd exe Intel Corporation C Windows System igfxpers exe Synaptics Incorporated C Program Files Synaptics SynTP SynTPEnh exe IDT Inc C Program Files IDT WDM sttray exe Garmin Ltd or its subsidiaries C Program Files x Garmin Express Tray ExpressTray exe Team Corporation C Program Files x Team Corporation Sync Sync exe Microsoft Corporation C Program Files Windows Sidebar sidebar exe Hewlett-Packard Company C Program Files x Hewle... I can't end tasks open new programs even things like deleting a file take minutes Once it reaches or my screen starts flashing black kind of like if you blink fast I have to hard restart every time this General Win7 memory leak and Unknown memory usage? happens This is not normal I've had quot experts quot on other forums tell me its win using the ram to its greatest Its not As soon as I restart and open my usual programs browser steam openoffice winamp utorrent my ram is at around or percent If I leave the same programs open and just leave it on for hours the ram gets to and my screen starts flashing and I have to reboot If you look at the rammap and process explorer shots the most ram intensive programs are chrome and firefox but they only use mb each Everything else is only - mb and do not add up to the gb my computer uses after only a few hours The thing I noticed is that the quot page table quot is using gb of my ram don't know what it is though I tested my hdd using crystaldiskinfo and hdtune and found nothing Although I did replace the factor hdd with a larger gb one and imaged my previous hdd But I don't think this is the problem since I've had the new hdd for a year and the problems started in the last few months My ram is gb gb factory and gb corsair select I bought afterwards I tested my computer with memtest and manually rebooted with each stick and the same thing happened only faster because of the less ram it must be a software issue Ram Use Note both these show the screenshots when my computer was at like gb ram is unaccounted for Ram Use - Imgur

A:General Win7 memory leak and Unknown memory usage?

Hi mesohamster welcome to SevenForums

First I recommend uninstalling Avast then we could go from there . Using Revo Uninstaller

Click on the app inside RevoUnistaller and choose uninstall
Click on Yes to agree you want to uninstall
If you get the builtin Uninstaller for the app use that and once you're done click Finish
Back inside RevoUninstaller click on Next
Let RevoUninstaller scan for left over registry keys . Click on Select All and choose Delete .
Once done click on Next.
Let the left over files and folders be locates then Click on Select All then click Delete then Next and you should be done .

Restart PC

It seems that I've been getting low memory issues ever since upgrading to Win10, but I'm not 100% certain if thats the issue. I thought about uprading to 16gb ram, but I'd like to know if theres some other fix for this. I can't multitask as I used to be able to. Sometimes problems occur just running 8 tabs on chrome and a game(Blade and Soul). The numbers just don't seem to add up.

A:High Memory Usage/ Low Memory Popup on Win10 8gb Laptop

Hello svader55 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

On the first impression I would have to suspect the problem is with the upgrade itself where you might end needing to see a Clean Install of 10. First however you can try a few things out to see if this is only a minor glitch. On an older 7 model by HP the upgrade seen last summer was a disaster waiting to happen which I had enticipated and saw an immediate clean install to follow! Of after going from the 32bit 7 Home Premium to 10 Home x86 I subsequently changed that with a second fresh install the 64bit Windows.

The initial tool would be the System File Checker you would run from the Command prompt(admin) option when right clicking on the Start button. You simply scroll down to that option to see the new window open up. At the dos like prompt you then simply type in "sfc /scannow" and press enter to get the tool underway.

The tool will then scan all the important system files and if finding one or more corrupt or missing will often be able to replace them but not all unfortunately from cab files tucked away on the local drive. With previous versions the rec for having the Windows dvd in the driver was made in case the SFC had to extract something from the Windows media there if the problem was more involved. This is why the suggestion for the possible need to see a fresh clean install of 10 is being made here.

Unfortunately buggy upgrades are all too common regardless of which version is being upgraded over. But you likely saw the option for 10 in the 10 app? or in the Windows Updates perhaps? if not seeing 10 downloaded separately. The appearance from the images you provided suggests the problem is the memory being mapped out to hardwares while that first item being a 32bit app taking upto almost 1tb seems a bit high.

Hello,

I've been experiencing sluggish performance, browsers were laggy and non responsive after having many tabs.

I found that the solution to improve performance was to change Virtual Memory values and disable "paging file size" for all drives.

Now the computer performance is amazing, everything responds properly but now I'm getting error messages of low memory and getting crashes. A few minutes ago the computer crashed to a black screeen.

Here are the values I have right now in Virtual Memory, what else should I do to stop these crashes? I already tried a few different values but the problem still persists.

Any suggestions?

I have windows 8 on a Lenovo desktop PC with an AMD A4 5000 APU 1.5 GHZ., 4 GB ram.
I downloaded a game called Rohan Blood feud a month ago and every so often this common error comes up after clicking my character after I log in. memory 0x77 at referenced memory cannot be read. the error itself is hit and miss, sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't. I have narrowed it down to three possibilities. Game guard the hacking prevention system built into the game is not compatible, not having enough ram to process the game request at the time i try to run the game or There might be an issue with AMD catalyst control system being out of date and is interfering with my game. Is there anything I can do besides uninstalling and re-installing the game? I have done this 3 times and it is only a temporary fix since the error is back after 2 game plays.

I'm posting in the XP forum because I was under the impression that I had/have windows XP. The complete message is

"Windows NT has found only 495K of low memory. 512K of low memory is required to run Windows NT. You may need to upgrade your computer or run a configuration program provided by the manufacturer"

The computer is a 2001 or 2002 Dell Rev. A03, It won't load windows and I can't seem to access any boot menu. I have not made any changes to the computer's hardware.

A:Windows NT has found only 495K of low memory. 512K of low memory is required to run..

Windows XP is of the Window NT File System (NTFS) family. Download the ISO image for Memtest in my signature and burn the image to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature. Boot off of the newly created CD and run the tests with ONE stick of RAM in at a time. testing individually. If you get any errors, that stick is bad and needs to be replaced.

Is there anything I need to know, basically? Is there a particular version i should download, security settings i should employ, things like that. Doesn't Microsoft's update site only work with explorer? I'm kinda ignoring the mozilla board, seems pretty active in here, and it's not really that off-topic. Maybe I shouldn't even get firefox.

A:can i have some help in switching to firefox?

Download from Firefox - Rediscover the Web and double-click to install. Just follow the instructions.

You can use Firefox as a replacement for Internet Explorer, but installing Firefox does not remove IE.

We are using the HP USB to Ethernet adapter on our Field Technician laptops. We do not want their wireless NIC active when they use a USB to Ethernet adapter. Basically, we'd like the logic and functionality of LAN/WAN switching to apply when our LAN connection is made using the HP USB to Ethernet adapter. Is this possible? On a side note, the LAN/WAN switching works great when using the laptop's built-in Ethernet port.

Before I get too involved with what I'm about to do, please tell me if I can simply take my HDD out of one computer and put it in another, and still have it work. I'm using XP, btw. I have a feeling the XP security stuff will prevent me from doing it, but I'm hoping there's a workaround.
(I just don't feel like doing all that backing up and reinstalling process, and ghosting is not an option right now.)

Thanks!

Well first of all hello.... i'm new here so bare with me if im not giving enough information.
I jus bought a laptop thats has window vista and right now i dont have a router but untill i get one im trying to put the usb cable that connects to the modem onto my old computer wich runs on a windows ME and the internet wont work can anyone help me?

A:Help on computer switching

If you want to use the USB cable then you're going to need the installation CD that came with the modem to install the software. If I were you I'd skip the USB cable and just use a Cat-5 cable to connect the Ethernet port on the modem to your network card on the computer. Make sure your network card is 'setup to receive IP addresses automatically'. Your computer should receive an IP address from the modem and hopefully the internet is working.

Does switching from windows ME to windows XP cause you to lose all you data including programs, music, videos anything like that?

A:Switching to WINDOWS XP

Hi, if you were to use the Windows XP Upgrade then technically, "no" however knowing Windows ME, it'd all go wrong and you'd lose everything. What i'd suggest (as I suspect the others will) is to backup everything, format the hard disk, and install Windows XP from fresh. What most of us seem to do is have a 2nd hard disk with all our data on, the you can just unplug it when you make major changes and you know all your data is safe, maybe something to think about?

If you have a modem with Ethernet connection, you just need a wireless router, they're frequently on special for $15-20.
