Q: Solved: HP Pavilion

My desktop, that is getting ancient (2007) but had worked well, went to black screen a few days ago and a restart didn't help. I thought it was dust build up so I opened it and cleaned it and then it did the same after starting up normally. I couldn't get the screen back, so I went to BIOS and didn't see anything that I thought could help. I did the diagnostic and no errors in the memory, processor or hard drive were shown. I did a system restore to a date before this happened and things are okay right now. Would my running the "log" that is sometimes pasted in questions on here help you know what the problem was/is?
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

I could do a complete system wipe/resinstall as I've done on computers in past, if that is advisable.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I think that light is suppose to be blue. I tried to install a wireless driver, but that did not work. What should I try next. Thanks

Hey guys, I am working on an HP Pavilion XT345 Laptop. The problem is someone jerked the cord out of the power supply and broke the nipple inside the laptop. I am trying to disassemble the laptop so I can solder the nipple back into place, the problem I'm having is I can't seem to get the thing apart. I tried most of the black screen suggestions and short cuts. all seem to work for me but just for a short time. the longest so far is about 20 minutes.
after that the screen goes black again.
In the control panel I set up my computer not to power down go to sleep,
no screen saver nothing. It was down so long I did not want it to start with
a black screen again. but now it still goes black after about 20 minutes.
what else can I do to keep my screen on without keep going black.

Seeing as this is an old laptop, it could be that the screen itself is going bad. They're not to hard to replace for a DIY and not to expensive. HP PAVILION DV6700 CTO LAPTOP LCD SCREEN 15.4" WXGA CCFL SINGLE (SUBSTITUTE REPLACEMENT LCD SCREEN ONLY. NOT A LAPTOP ): Computers & Accessories

A:will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

I've installed flash bios and used the hoover on the vents (which was recommened by hp support) but i'm still having problems.
I'm just wondering if there's anything i should try, maybe it's worth taking the heat sink out to give it a clean..?
I ran 'hardware sensors monitor' today and the cpu cores got up to 77*c (while the cpu's working at 100%) before i stopped it . I also just noticed that the bottom rubbers that are near the cpu fan and hdd are missing, seems like the heats melted the glue and they've fallen off.

Any help or advice would be appriciated!

I somewhat recently purchased the above-mentioned laptop (several months ago). It has been great, running quickly, smoothly. But, recently, out-of-the-blue, it has begun to freeze.

A few days ago, it started to freeze for about 2 seconds, then stutter through a second, before freezing for another 2 seconds etc...etc...During these instances of freezing everything would stop, from sound to the cursor.

The problem has been getting progressively worse, and now my laptop will not boot Windows. It will just sit on the loading screen for half an hour.

Before it came to this point, I ran virus/spyware scans and found nothing. I tried a system recovery to a more recent time, but now it has stopped working altogether. Any suggestions?

Have always (almost always) had the situation that if choose restart it will log out and go to black screen and not restart (I'm sure it isn't shutting down). Just sits there and only by powering down can one start back up. I recall finding something on the web to make a change so that Windows XP could be sent through restart OK. I think it did for awhile. Well, I'm back at the point that only way I can do a restart is ultimately turn the computer off. Any ideas?

Hi, I've recently been having issues getting a wireless connection with my laptop (specifically dv6700) running vista. I had previously run it for 2 years without issue, but after returning from Sweden (where there was again no issue connecting wirelessly) I have often only been able to get local access. This isn't on all networks - my University library network works fine, for example, but my flat's personal network as well as my parents' network, as well as a local cafe which I had previously connected to fine, only get local access.

I've seen this is quite a common problem but haven't seen a definitive solution so was wondering if anyone could help?

When a CD is inserted, the drive light flashes green light several times and the cursor shows a disk shape flashing for a few times, (normal pattern) and then a normal cursor appears and the disk drive light is flashing orange. The drive (m) shows up in "my computer"; but inserted disk is not read and or noticed.
The device mangager says no problem with driver; I reinstalled driver anyway, no help; checked bios, it shows the drive. I'm running xp service pack 2 and used system restore to an earlier date before problem; still no help. I think the hardware is finished but don't want to buy a new one if it is a software problem. Would appreciate any advice.

I tried to start my computer a few days ago and it wouldn't start. Worked fine the day before, no issues but now when I press the power button the fans come on and the tower makes a beeping sound. Nothing shows up on the monitor and after a few seconds the monitor goes to sleep like it's not receiving any signal from the computer. Ican't run the sysinfo program for obvious reasons but it's basicly original other than it's running XP instead of Vista, and it does have some extra memory.

Hello everybody, I don't know if this goes on the xp section, so move the thread if necessary. I was recently on craigslist and saw a HP Pavilion Media Center TV PC m7490n for $50.

Here are the specs. It has Win XP MCE 2005, Dual core Intel Pentium D/940 3.2 Ghz, 2gb RAM, DVD+-RW with disc labeling and lightscribe technology, 9-in-1 media card reader, 500gb hard drive, tv tuner, and more.

It doesn't work, but I had 3 questions. Is this media center just for media related things or can it be used as a normal computer? Is it worth it for $50? And lastly, if it is usable as a computer, can I wipe the whole OS and install XP or 7 on it to use it like a ordinary computer? Thanks!

What is wrong with the computer? If you don't how to fix it, then it is only good for parts and not worth $50. Media Center Edition has extra Microsoft software to play Music, Movies and TV. If you got the computer to work, then you would have to see it is has drivers and support for Windows 7.

I'm working on a hp pavilion zv5000 with malware problems. Does anyone have any experience with the keyboard on one of these? I practically have to pound on the keys to get them to work. And forget trying to get a capital letter. Are they all like that (which I would find hard to believe -- nobody would buy one) or does this one just have a problem?

A:Solved: Pavilion notebook keyboard

If typing normally on the keyboard doesn't work, then there's likely a hardware problem. To fix the malware, connect an external keyboard. If the owners of the system want to fix the keyboard problem, it would probably need to be replaced (assuming an external keyboard works fine).

Depending on where you live, and how much HP is willing to go in fixing the beastie will determin what course of action you could possibly take. Yelping enough at HP may get you a new machine. BUT, you may also have someone in your local government that can help as well.

Here in the States, most states have a Lemon Law - now in many, it only covers automobiles. But in some, it covers all household appliances and devices, and can include computers. It would depend on which state or location you are in. If you can't get satisfaction from the manufacturer, contacting or searching your local Attorney General's web site might prove fruitful.

HP use industryu standard motherboards, but their own BIOS versions.
They do not use non-standard connections on the standard motherboards.

But they often use non-standard size power supplies, measure the physical size and check before you buy.

Pentium Dual-Core Mobile Processor T3200 (2.0 GHz)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

i'm sure this might be comparing apples to apples but i have to ask.

is the Pentium Dual-Core Mobile Processor T3200 (2.0 GHz) faster than the AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core Processor for Notebook PCs QL-60 (1.9GHz)? from what i gather they seem to be similar in performance. and is the ATI RadeonHD 3200 Graphics better than the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD?

i'm sorry for asking so many questions. this is my first laptop purchase and want to make a good decision. i am on a budget of $550-650. the only flaw i have found with these laptops is the battery life. can someone help me find which system will be better. thanks again.

My friend wants to upgrade his HP Pavilion 7924 PC - (1GHZ 128MB 30GB)
1) add more memory
2) Improve graphics

1) Looking at the motherboard - He has 1 more free slot - so I should be able to put a 128MB card in there - or depending on price and the graphics - replace with two 256MB cards. (I'll look the memory up on the sites for compatability and max etc)

But its the graphics I'm concerned about
Looking at display options - The intergrated card had 4MB on it
On the front of the PC printed it states
Intergrated Intel Direct AGP with 3d graphics - 11MB shared Video memory TV out.

On the motherboard theres no AGP slot
He just has 2 free PCI slots.

a) can I put a PCI graphics card in the PC - and will that be any better
b) somehow getting the 11MB to work off the shared memory

Could someone help me find a audio cable wiring diagram for the front panel audio on an old HP pavilion a1420n case? I've tried HP and their sites (yes sites) are all useless... I got a nice "here's how to plug your headphones into the headphone jack" poster, but no internal wiring diagram. I've got a new board and processor in this old case and everything works except the front audio jacks. It's annoying to have to unplug my speakers to plug my headphone/mic combo into the back. It might be that I've just got the wiring to the new board wrong and need to change the wiring harness to match the new boards configuration. But without a diagram to figure out what's wrong... I'm really frustrated. If anyone could help I would be very thankful.

Thought that this title would get someone's attention.

I have a Pavilion a250n desktop PC that has hardware issues. It has XP home installed.

What I would like to do is replace the original motherboard, cpu, and memory with:

Biostar K8M800 Micro AM2 motherboard
AMD Sempron 3400+ CPU
2GB ram

But I want to keep the original Hard drive, OS and files. I have already replaced the PSU to a 400W, with no problems.

Will there be a significant issue when I try to boot up?

From what I've read on other forums is that most PC companies (HP, Dell, Gateway etc.) don't put full OS versions on the machines, and that the product key code on the machine might become invalid.

Can anyone elaborate on this?

A:Solved: ripping the guts out of HP Pavilion

Well I did do something similar to what you're speaking about. What happened was I built my new system with a HD from my HP computer. What happens is it asks for the product key again when you boot the system up. The probably is, if you try to reformat, which I tried to do, it doesn't let you use the same key again. And anyways when you do have to re-validate it when it boots up you usually have to call some microsoft number to get it validated first.

I have a hp pivilion 9795 that a friend of mine found in someone's trash and I need to find the motherboard diagrams. I know it works because I booted it up after putting in a new hardrive. I had to change cases so I forgot some of the hookups. Can someone help me find the diagrams.

A:[SOLVED] HP pavilion 9795 motherboard diagram

Hi there,

I went to HP and managed to track down the system to this link.

HP 9795

It says that the MB is from Asus.

I'd try going to this site and seeing if you can narrow down which model it is. Mobo ID Tools

Then you can go to the Asus website and get the diagrams you're looking for.

A:[SOLVED] Recycling old HP pavilion XP laptop--reformat?

Hi joangolfing,

Download a good hard drive erasure program called "DBAN". I use this program and it's a really good hard drive erasure. Run the long pass which will take a long while, about 12 - 14hrs or so. I believe with the long pass, the program goes over your hard drive like 7x times.

Here is the link: DBAN Download | Darik's Boot And Nuke

Make sure to back up any important data you have on that computer onto your external hard drive or USB flash drive. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask, thank you.

I'm piecing together a computer from parts of other computers, and I'm using the mobo and sound card from an HP Pavilion XL775. I found the sound card driver online, but I can't find anything for the video that's integrated into the mobo. Right now, the only option I have is 640x480, 60Hz, and 16 colors. My brother-in-law (who had the computer originally) threw out the installation discs, so no luck there. I've spent a lot of time searching online, but I can't find anything.

1 more thing I should mention... I've installed Win98SE, but the computer originally came w/ WinME.

I bought a PS3 a while ago, and connected it up to my philips 26" HD ready TV. All was working fine.
Recently though the TV has been in Use by other members of my family, so i barely get any time on the PS3.
So i hook my PS3 to my HP Pavilion f1904 1280x1024 monitor via DVI. the problem is that, When I turn my PS3 on my monitor says, Resolution Out of Range.
My guess is that the PS3 is trying to get the max resolution out of the monitor, and it is trying to get the monitor to display 1280x1080. I know that the monitor supports 1024x768. Am I Right?, if so, does anyone know a way to get the PS3 to get down to the 1024x768 resolution.

I have an HP Pavillion Media Center. Hand me down from my son. Three years old. The hard drive crashed and after days of discussion with Sam, Jack, Cheryl et. al. in India, they sent me Recovery CDs. That did not work and it was determined that the hard drive was dead. Of course the parts salesman encouraged me to buy a new computer. I need to know if the computer is worth saving. I was hoping just to buy a hard drive because it has many extras that I would not purchase again for myself. Does it make sense to revive a computer that is 3 years old? HP quoted $300 for a new HD.

Hi, and thanks for the help, in advance.

I bought an HP Pavilion dv6000/with Vista about 6 months ago, I have had overheating problems with the "laptop" since, almost the first day I used it. It overheats and shuts down. Usually, when I turned the laptop back on, after allowing it cool, everything was fine, however, 2-3 days ago, it overheated, while on a cooling pad, shut down, and now I cannot connect to the internet. When I go to "Manage connections", it says that I have an unidentified network and am only able to use "local" and not "internet". Also, my ethernet card is not being recognized, at all, as being installed, yet, my wireless is connected, and working, though, I don't use wireless, as yet.

What could the problem be, and how might I correct this?

I have an old HP Pavilion ze5300 that was running Win. XP. I wanted to update the operation system so I called myself putting Windows Vista on it. I purchased the copy of Vista new, but used it once before. Unfortunately, this is a no no with Microsoft. Well I would like to put the copy of Windows XP back onto it. Can someone explain how I can restore windows XP back onto my HP Pavilion ze5300 without having to purchase another copy.

When my computer loads now it attempts to load MS Vista, but it asked me for the serial key for the software, when I enter it. I get a message telling me that I've used it once already. And I did. But I assumed for $79 I could use it again. I can't figure out how to restore XP. Please can someone help with this. Once again, I have a HP Pavilion ze5300.

So, I have finally got my computer working after downgrading to XP Pro.
Everything has been working great until the other night when the Internet stopped working.

At the moment I am in my office, I have my laptop connected via the wireless network. I am not able to browse to a website using Internet Explorer or Safari. Though I am able to do a ping in the command prompt and each packet is sent and received with no problems.

I have now shut off the wireless capability and connected to the network via a network cable. I have restarted each browser and I am still unable to browse the internet. And again, I am able to do a ping in the command prompt and each packet is sent and received with no problems.

What is the deal here... anyone have any ideas?

HP Pavilion dv6853cl Notebook PC I'm considering buying a refurbished one of these, which, groan, comes with Windows Vista. I can't seem to find out when this laptop first came out. I have an HP Pavilion 2000 299WM notebook. I switched out the RAM sticks (from 1GB to 2GB) and put everything back together and now my laptop will not start. Correction: it starts - the lights on the keyboard light up, but there is no display and no noise from my fan that starts with booting. Everything is plugged in to the mobo the correct way and all the parts are new or close to new and work. Why is there no display?

There is no DVD drive as it took a leave of absence 8 months ago, and the battery and HDD were just replaced. HDD is running Linux and Windows, but that does not affect my display. I hooked up an external monitor and still no display.
