Windows 7 doesn't load after 'windows error recovery'

Q: Windows 7 doesn't load after 'windows error recovery'

Hi, i have a dell inspiron 1545 installed with windows 7. I started it this morning and installed the latest version of free AVAST virus protection which then told me to restart the computer. So after doing this, It didn't load properly after taking my password and came up with a blank screen. So i manually turned my computer off after having waited for it to load (which it never did) now when i turn it on it comes up with the 'windows error recovery' screen. I have tried every alternative way of booting it up including 'safe mode' all which didn't work and the screen ended up blank every time. I must have tried it at least 15 times but still had no joy. Please help???? is there anything i can do without taking the computer to pieces???
Thanks
Ollie

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 doesn't load after 'windows error recovery'

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I assume that also "last good configuration" didn't work. I do not know what went wrong, but it's sounding like a "Recover to factory defaults" or a new install may be your only choices.

Maybe this will help http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894391

Basically you should run windows update to see if that helps

A:Windows Security Center Doesn't Load - Error 126: Module Could Not Be Found

Hi JosherZ,

there is a chance that the laptop still has some remnants leftover from the infections so it may be an idea to get the all clear from one of our HijackThis experts:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...sting-log.html

However, it could just an issue caused by the problems you had with the SP2 installation, if you can slipstream an installation disc with SP2 on, you may be able to fix the problem with a repair installation. You could also try the System File Checker (sfc) to see if it can detect any problems with the system files:

- Start -> Run -> type:
sfc /scannow
- Click OK
- Insert disc when prompted

Hope that helps

PLease can someone help I believe this a virus. Computer prompts for Windows Xp Startup Password that I do not know.

It says: This computer is configured to require a password in order to start up. Please enter the startup Password below. Below the space to enter the password you can hit ok or restart.

After unsuccessful attempts because I do not know the password a system error comes on the screen.

lsass.exe- System Error Which says: When trying to update a password, this return indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct.

This does not allow windows xp to open and the same startup password prompt box occurs in safemode. I have tried using the toshiba satellite l 25 s119 series recovery disk but to no avail, it not does work. Can anyone diagnose this for me? Thanks,
Matt

In Task Manager - go to File, then to New Task. Type in "explorer.exe" (wihout the quotes) and press Enter.Does this restore your desktop? Also, try iexplore.exe to see if you can bring up Internet Explorer. If you can, then go immediately to http://safety.live.com and perform the free online scan. The second image is an alert telling you that the site that you're trying to visit doesn't have a valid security certificate. It's a caution for you - so if you don't know what site it is - don't go there!

I have recently installed Windows XP Pro (I had several problems while doing so, as it kept freezing mid-installation, but i eventually managed to install it). Anyway, now that I've installed it, it doesn't load upto the welcome screen - it gets to a screen saying "welcome", but doesn't go beyond to the welcome screen with all the user names etc. It only loads in safe mode. Could anyone please help me?

hi all,

not sure what's wrong, it's been since yesterday that my PC won't start. The first thing I did was to use the windows start CD and followed the procedure suggested here http://www.tomshardware.com/news/win7-windows-7-mbr,10036.html

I went on the BIOS changed the Hard drive BBS to the SSD, and normal HHD, nothing..
oi reboted from the CD i did select the command prompt recovery tool, and
executed the bootrec.exe /FixMbr, which worked, but then the PC still doesn't load windows....

Any input is welcome, thank you!

Hi number,

What did you do the day/night before the PC stopped booting? Any software or hardware changes?

Also, are you able to boot into Safe Mode?

What is the furthest screen you get to when booting up the PC?

After having some problems, I have reinstalled windows normally, everything seemed going smoothly, but while the pre installation was loading, at around 80% i started to get these messages: impossible to copy the file logonui.exe , drmcien.dll , drmv2clt.dll
so I ignored these files, the pre installation finished, then I didn the actual installation, but... something happened.
When windows starts up now, it enters in an infinite loop, it starts, but then rather than loading the OS, it goes in the start page again (the one where i am asked if i want win 2k or xp) it keeps on starting over again but... the OS doesn't load....
what can I do?

Hi,

Are you trying a reinstall. repair install, or a clean format and install? This might help to know what the problem might be.

In the past couple of months my laptop has been acting strange It started with my USB mouse not working It would work to Windows load doesn't want 7 one minute then not the next and I would have to unplug Windows 7 doesn't want to load and put it into a different USB port until it quit working altogether but worked fine in another computer After the mouse incident it started something different I'd leave the room with a webpage open and come back to a screen saying windows wouldn't load and to either system restore or use the other option for it to fix the windows problem System restore will not work it says the files are not existant and the other option doesn't work either I get a 'windows start up has failed do you want to send a report to microsoft ' and that will not work either I have to press restart over and over and over and it will not load windows So I have to shut it down and wait awhile before I can attempt to start it up again Somethings it works and sometimes it doesn't and I have to do it all over again As time goes by i notice it s getting more frequent Can anyone shed some light on this for me THe laptop is only three years old It's an Acer Aspire Thanks in advance

my win7 doesn't load after the "starting windows" page.

re-installed it so i can't even go into safe mode because it says it needs to be in normal operating mode to resume installation.

it was working fine one day and at the next boot up, it won't load anymore.

help anyone?

what build are you running? did you add any hardware or software that could be the culprit? do you know how to repair your installation?

First off sorry if someone has already posted with this issue I am a strong believer of quot if you Windows Doesn't Load Explorer can't find it on Google you'll never find it quot but this is Windows Explorer Doesn't Load really starting to get on my nerves a bit Windows Explorer Doesn't Load as I've spent hours of my time trying to get to the bottom of it times out of when i open an explorer window whether it be 'My Computer' from both desktop shortcut and start menu shortcut or control panel devices and printers etc I get a blank window The green loading bar at the top slowly progresses through and then hangs towards the end I once left it for hours to no effect I was wondering if you guys had any idea on what the issue could be and how i could fix it If i restart my machine it fixes the issue briefly then starts again I have found a work around however If i open my computer then right click the 'My Computer' shortcut on the right hand tool bar and click 'Open in new window' explorer opens perfectly and then works for about half an hour before breaking again Hopefully you all have enough information and some genius out there will solve what i could not Thanks guys

A:Windows Explorer Doesn't Load

As a side note. I tried to replicate the issue in safe mode and as far as i'm aware, there wasn't one... But obviously the screen res was making my eyes implode, so i couldn't stay like that for too long.

Thanks

Hi all,
I've been having start-up problems. Whenever I put on my laptop, it loads to the place where I put in my password and doesn't load the desktop. It simply displays a dark/black screen with my cursor only. I have to keep forcing a shutdown and rebooting hoping my desktop will load. Meaning once it gets to my user account screen and I put in my password, it attempts to load me into the desktop screen but I end up with my cursor and a blank screen. But in safemode, the desktop loads alright. Any suggestions please?

looks like the user profile settings are amiss. I would first try a system restore to see if you can get it back to operating normally. Click start, go to accessories; then to system tools; then to system restore and see what the most recent restore point is before this started happening and i would tell it to restore back to that point. (i hope im on the right path here with this answer)

Lately when I boot my computer opens, but it doesn't connect to the internet and my icons do not appear in the tool bar. This forces me to do a hard shut down and reboot (restart just hangs up and never restarts). Has anyone experienced similar problems or is this unique to my five year old PC?

Hi,
I have tried everything in order to get my Windows 8 store to load so I can upgrade to 8.1.
Nothing seems to work, I have tried a clean boot, resetting settings, change date/time, clear proxy etc.
The weird thing is IE works in desktop mode but doesn't work in metro mode.
Does this have something to do with it?
I am at a loss and it is very annoying!
Thanks,
Terry

The other night we had a power outage. The next morning I booted my computer only to get the "Windows Repair" or "Start Normally" options. I chose Normal to begin. Windows never loaded after almost an hour. I shut down and chose Repair the second time. Windows loaded files but never booted into windows after even a couple hours of letting it sit. I bought a new harddrive thinking that might be the problem. I've tried booting from the Win 7 DVD on both the old and new drive. I get to the "Starting Windows" screen and it just sits there on both drives. I've let it set for as much as 4 hours. I've looked through the forums but have not found this exact problem. I've tried the AVG boot disk and it crashes also. Any ideas?

After 3 days of searching through the forums I finally tested my memory. I had ONE bad stick of RAM. After removal...it works fine.

Use the mem test that is linked in these forums.

Hi,
I'm having a problem with catalyst drivers. I installed Win7 32-bit yesterday and everything was working fine until I installed catalyst control center, which now causes the system to stay stuck on the blue windows wallpaper without explorer or mouse cursor. I can get to safe mode and perform a system recovery, then I can boot normally. I also tried multiple versions of drivers, but it always does the same thing. Im using Radeon HD5770, Gigabyte P43T-ES3G Mobo, Intel Core2Quad 2,5 GHz (not sure about the exact model number) and 4 GB Ram. Everything worked fine before reinstalling windows and my system specs are exactly the same as they were before. Any ideas? Thanks.

If you have replaced the Motherboard unless it is exactly the same as the old one then you will have to re-install Windows other wise it won't work.

A:Windows 10 Doesn't Load After Dell Logo.

You might try doing a (google) search for "black screen dell windows 10" and evaluating some of the information in the results to see if one of the workarounds might apply in your case.
I had what reads like a similar issue to what you describe many months ago, and one of the workarounds allowed me to regain access and address the underlying issues.
Good luck.

So I recently upgraded my motherboard, RAM, and CPU. After doing some quick adjustments in the BIOS, I attempted to load into Windows to make sure everything was correct. Upon the Windows loading up, the logo freezes for a second, a BSOD appears (which I cannot read as it disappears within a fraction of a second) and the computer restarts.

I've already gone through a couple of passes using Memtest without any errors, so I think the RAM can be ruled out. I was hoping I could get advice on how to prevent the computer from restarting so I can see the BSOD and further provide information depending on the error.

A:Computer Upgrade - Windows Doesn't Load

You may or may not know this, but when upgrading the motherboard and CPU, it's best to do a fresh install of Windows. When moving to a brand new motherboard (specifically of a different model, same with CPU), Windows sometimes won't be able to load due to the configuration change.

If you can get around this, there's still the off chance of performance issues and just a whole mess of things. I would recommend a brand new Windows install, as it should be.

According to Lenovo's Windows 10 Upgrade website, the IdeaPad U410 is not supported (it doesn't appear in the supported models list here):https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/do...As you can see, the S410 is supported but the U410 isn't listed. If you scroll up to the top of the page (or press the 'Home' key) you'll see this:"Date: Oct 02, 2015""Lenovo supported systems list for Windows 10 Upgrade. If your system is not listed, it hasn?t been tested for Windows 10 upgrade and is not supported"That may account for your problem. With laptops especially, you are supposed to check the manufacturer's website before you upgrade it to Windows 10.message edited by phil22

Combofix should be used as part of a malware removal process, not as a standalone tool. The probability that you are still infected with malware is extremely high.

I suggest you follow this guide to create a malware removal thread.

My computer got infected with 'Winsecurity toolbar 2.1' (a spyware) and to fix it, I installed and ran SuperAnti Spyware (reviews say it's good). It then asked me to restart the pc, which I did manually. When it reached the 'click your username to continue' stage, the usernames weren't there. I opened my user with Ctrl+Alt+Del but then only the wallpaper showed up, no icons. I then tried to load it in safe mode but now only the blue screen ('windows is starting up...') appears and it doesn't go any further.

Please find me a solution. ANY help would be highly appreciated...

Many thanks...

A:Why doesn't Windows load (not even in safe mode)?

Once you log in (without any icons)
Do a Ctrl + Alt + Del again
Hopefully Task Manager opens
Click on File-->Run-->explorer.exe

Do your icons now show?

If so, do the following:
Check the Shell value for Winlogon in your registry (start->Run->Regedit). Under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
should show:

Shell REG_SZ explorer.exe

Or download this tool: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/XP_FixLogon.zip
This utility checks for the correct GINA value in the Registry and will allow you to restore it, if its incorrect.

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here.

Panasonic CF-W8 laptop, 3 years old, never had any previous issues. It was fine when I left the house today, but when I came back a few hours later, the screen was black and had text I didn't understand. I rebooted, and it said that Hal.dll was missing.

So I looked online to see how to fix it, but when I rebooted again, the screen simply turned black and stayed black after the initial boot-up. When I check the BIOS, it says "Hard Disk Empty." I tried using the Windows recovery CD, but it says that there's no hard disk.

Does this mean that the hard disk failed? If so, what are the options to get my data? Before shelling out the big bucks for data recovery services, I'd like to see if there's anything else I can do.

Thank you in advance for any help!

A:Windows wouldn't load, now BIOS doesn't see HDD

It may be that the hard disk has failed.
Please try these free, bootable hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html

If it's a UEFI system (mostly for WIn8 and later systems), you may have to disable SecureBoot and enable CSM/legacy in order to boot form the disks.

To see if you can recover your data, try slaving it to another computer to copy the data off of it.
If that doesn't work, then we can try data recovery tools before suggesting a data recovery service.

Hi @Lauren80, welcome to the HP Forums!  I see you have determined the hard drive is no longer functional. As this is not something I can help you to simply fix, I can suggest you replace the hard drive to resolve the issue.  I'd recommend calling in to speak with a phone agent as they can look up your product and may be able to help you to setup an replacement.  What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detectStep 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone numberCase number and phone number appear.I hope this helps.

Hi,

One day all of the sudden I can't load Windows Media Player. I on the Task Manager to see what happened. Whenever I execute Windows Media Player 11, wmplayer.exe loads but goes off in a second. It's gone! What's happening?

Windows XP Service Pack 2
Windows Media Player 11.0.5721.5145 (WMP_11.061018-2006)
Windows Internet Explorer 7.0.6000.16512 (vista_gdr.070625-1522)

A:Windows Media Player doesn't load!

Well, since no one replyed, I uninstalled Windows Media Player to revert to the old one. I went back to Windows Media Player 9 series. When I execute it, (finally) an error message appeared. Well, the issue was an old issue. I googled the error message and solved the problem. Later I installed Windows Media Player 11 again and it was fine.

Solution:
http://xperiencexp.blogspot.com/2005/06/windows-media-player-internal.html

Windows Media Player "An internal application error has occurred"

The Problem:-When you try to start Microsoft Windows Media Player, you may receive an "An internal application error has occurred" (or a similar) error message.

Cause:-This issue may occur if one or more of the Jscript registry key settings are incorrect. This behavior may also occur if the Jscript.dll file is missing or damaged.

Resolution:-

1.Click Start, and then click Run.

2.In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.

3.Click OK.

4.Click Start, and then click Run.

5.In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.

6.Click OK.

If either of the files do not register as expected, or if you receive an error message, the system file may be missing or damaged. To extract the missing file in Microsoft Windows XP, follow these steps:

1.Click Start, and then click Run.

2.In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.

3.Click Expand File.

4.In the File to restore box, type the name of the file that you want to restore.

5.In the Restore from box, type the path of the Windows XP .cab file where you want to restore the file, or click Browse From to locate the Windows XP .cab file.Note The Windows XP .cab files are stored in the I386 folder on the Windows XP CD.

6.In the Save file in box, type the path where you want to extract the new file, or click Browse To to locate the folder that you want.

7.Click Expand.

8.In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click OK. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.
That's all!

Hi, if you did not create a recovery USB, you can order one from HP.  This is Windows 8.1 not Windows 10?  You might also try booting into safe mode described here.

I am posting from my phone using voice to text so please bear with me. Here is what I was doing prior to being unable to load windows:
I was ripping one of my DVDs into an MP4 file using a software from brorsoft. I have been using this software for about a year. It crashes once in a while but other than that never has created any system issues.
After I downloaded AVG antivirus when I thought I had a virus and then turned out that it was not a virus I had trouble removing the AVG antivirus here's where the problem started.
I tried uninstalling AVG antivirus in safe mode but an error occurred so I'm not quite sure if the uninstall completed successfully. After that I have not been able to load windows and whenever I restart my computer it crashes just prior to loading windows XP and restarts the boot cycle over and over again.

A:Windows XP doesn't load and boot cycles over and over

Tap F8 at boot and select Disable Auto-Startup on System Failure. Reboot and see what error if any is shown on the Blue Screen if there is one. You may also want to try "Use Last Known Good Configuration" in the Advanced Boot Options.

I have a 2 month old Dell Inspiron 660 running Windows 8.1.that came with windows 8 installed but I upgraded to 8.1 off the internet. Everything worked okay until I did a scan and cleaning with ccleaner. Pretty soon startup was very slow going from the Dell screen to the lock screen to the password screen to the windows welcome screen but windows would eventually load. Now the startup only goes to the welcome screen. That little circle of dots starts spinning and keeps on spinning but Windows never loads. Did I erase some registry files when I cleaned it? I got on Microsoft's live chat support who said they could fix it for 99 bucks but I don't have a dollar much less 99. Does anybody know how I could fix this for free myself?

I also wanted to know how load Dos from win 8.1 and how to boot win 8.1 in safe mode.

Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all!

Hi Breedlove, Welcome to Eight forums.

Found a link for you. Step By Step How to Solve Windows 8.1 and 8 Black Screen Issue upon boot | Virtualization blog

In short, you have to go to Safe mode and disable the graphic card and monitors and then reboot. If this resolves, fine. Else, update the drivers for your graphic card.

Ok, when i tried to remove a virus by deleting some registrys, i may have deleted some wrong registrys that starts up the computer. When i restarted the computer windows comes up normally but it does not load anything, its just loads the background and nothing else. I tried restarting in safe mode and "using last good configuration" with windows 2000 professional, but it just stays at a blank screen. The only way I can think of fixing this is to create a floppy disk with my other computer to fix the registry, i have no access to the registry though my other computer. Any help?

I had a problem that I have searched on the web and found different solutions My situation is not usual yet so Windows have enough Tip: space File Doesn't 7 Recovery this may not help many people I have Windows Pro installed on an Asus Maximus V Gene This has UEFI that allows booting from a GPT disk greater than TB I have a TB Seagate installed and it has kind of been a hassle The default of the UEFI is to boot with legacy BIOS and not UEFI So every time the bios is updated it will reset and that will make it not boot since the system disk is larger than TB and I have to go in and reset it But now the UEFI of this motherboard is mature so that problem is no longer the issue it was Similar to how BIOS used to always default to IDE Tip: Windows 7 File Recovery Doesn't have enough space instead of AHCI Now this setup works great But to get to the problem I would use quot Windows File Recovery quot that is kind of hidden in the control panel and then would use a TB external USB drive to make the backup It would start the backup and after a few hours would state the hard drive doesn't have enough space But it was obvious that it does Here is the solution and it really only applies to people using a GPT system disk bigger than TB with UEFI that supports booting from this I had to go to the USB external TB hard drive and quick format it deleting everything on it and then deleting the volume in disk manager Then right click the left side of the menu that shows the drive and make it into a GPT drive Then create and expand the volume like usual Now it works just fine Here is what may have happened Just a guess The Tip: Windows 7 File Recovery Doesn't have enough space MBR type disk will have too many partitions that are too small to put in the TB hard drive even though the total storage measurements are the same size TB really But there is a danger to doing this I also have two other computers but they will not boot with UEFI with a greater than TB system disk If I were to make the external backup TB drives that are hooked up to them into GPT drives then the computers would not boot from them if they were used as the backup boot drive But maybe Windows Recovery would just look for the necessary files and move them onto the system disk A long winded explanation for a problem that probably afflicts very few users

Hi there, my problem is that I have windows 7 64b home premium. It came with my laptop Toshiba and I had to make a recovery disc in order to reinstall windows if I have to. So I did the recovery disc in a DVD RW drive. It shows that the recovery disc is ok, I can see the folders on it (boot and sources). The problem is that when I insert the disc in the DVD drive it doesn?t start. I tried to restart my computer, after that insert the disc, or insert the disc and then restart the computer, then go to my computer right click and autorun?and nothing. I don?t know how to start the reinstallation. What I'm doing wrong?
Thank you in advance.

When I turned on computer it showed a message that system did not turn on properly. It gave me choices what to do:
-refresh PC
-reset PC
-advanced options
I've chosen system recovery in advanced options. Everything would be fine, if it would keep same settings before the problem occurred. I spent a lot of time getting settings right. And that would be okay, if it happened once. But it happened second time in period of two weeks. I don't want that error happens again.

Hello

I am trying to take some training videos at a website (www.bentley.com). The videos are in windows media player format embedded in IE. I selected 4 trainings. So these are in my favourite list. I launched the first video, a new window opened and it started buffering the video and then the video started.

I face a problem when I closed this video and wanted to go to the next one. A new window opens with windows media player embedded in the window but it doesn't do buffering to play. Interestingly, it still showing the title of the previous training that I closed. Looks like it is getting stuck in the memory.

I have been facing this problem for 5/6 days. I will really appreciate if someone can tell me in solving this issue.

I am using IE 9 on Win7 (64bit.

Thanks

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help. Windows won't load at all, I just get a bsod flash up. Same thing happens with safe mode. For some reason I can't even system restore or format/reinstall windows from my cd. (after I click install nothing happens just sits at the loading screen)

Any suggestions?
I've attached a photo of the blue screen

A:windows doesn't load l/a bsod flashes on screen

This BSOD will not let you to boot to the desktop, in either mode.

The most typical causes of a stop 0xED is a failing HDD or dome mismatch boot records. If the second one is the issue, then a clean install should be possible, which is not as you said.

Test the HDD using Seatools for DOS. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use ...

Take both the short test and the long test. Let us know the results.

Hello

I am trying to take some training videos at a website ( www.bentley.com).

Thanks

A:After upgrade Windows 10 desktop doesn't load correctly

It might be an update that has jammed. On odd occasions discharging the motherboard has unstuck things, like this:Turn off computer and remove power plug. Remove main battery too if it's a laptop. Before trying again hold the Power Off/On button down for at least 20 seconds. It probably won't help but it's quick to try and you might be lucky.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Dear Tech-head supermeisters,

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I had a shop format my HDD (as I couldn't get the Windows XP Pre-installation Evironment to get past the bars at the bottom bit to get to the options screen). I now boot from the recovery CD-ROM and get the same hardware check and then Starting Windows Pre-installation Evironment... message as before and when the white bar has covered all the bars at the bottom of the screen, the computer stops moving forward and the screen goes blank instead of booting into XP and giving you options as I understand it should. Same as before I clean formatted the HDD. What's holding XP up? Any answers greatfully received as I am ready to trash this hunk of junk and go spend some money I haven't got.

I have an ASUS laptop which used to have a recovery partition. I used a function to make recovery DVDs and proceeded to format the partition.

Well now Windows won't boot. I attempted to use my recovery DVDs but after taking 10-15 minutes to boot it loads to a screen with a graphic (wallpaper) and stays there.
It doesn't tell me to load the next disk, it doesn't give me any kind of menu, does not accept any kind of input (including ctrl-alt-del).

Any idea on how I can make this work?

I got a new PC with Vista in January and it worked pretty well until about mid-November when the thing started freezing randomly and wouldn't unfreeze even for Ctrl Alt Del Eventually it seemed to get fed up and made me a new account and pretended to have deleted all my files original account Glen new account Glen GlensPC so Vista Load Recovery Windows Can't Failure, they both showed up as merely quot Glen quot which were still located in the original place Then control panel no longer worked I tried cleaning the registry but with no luck Virus scans and spyware scans picked up nothing Also it kept telling me that my quot Vista is not genuine quot despite the fact that I'd already validated it However the original freezing problem sort of disappeared Until today I got fed up with it and decided to do a recovery because Restore didn't have any effect whatsoever So I did the recover and half-way through it stops and says quot image not found quot or something similar before turning the computer off When I turned it back on it said it couldn't load Windows that quot vital files were missing quot so I restarted and Vista Recovery Failure, Can't Load Windows F 'd it tried again got the Vista Recovery Failure, Can't Load Windows same result Image not Found Tried times in Vista Recovery Failure, Can't Load Windows total and nothing worked So I'm at a loss My system HP iPower Windows Vista Home Premium auto-updated to SP Intel Core Quad Processor Q MHz MB DDR DDR Mhz GB SATA

A:Windows won't start, won't load recovery options either What can I do?

Hello and welcome lala now if this were me I would try this
Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 you will need to make a bootable disk and setthe BIOS to boot from the optical drive or USB if you decide to use asrick. Personally I prefer a disk.

This will run indepedent of Windows and scan for malware.

I have Toshiba satellite notepad C850. How do I reset my bios so that it will go back to default factory settings, pressing F10 does not work on my CD-ROM so that I can boot from it. Will a master disk from Toshiba work better then a recovery disk

A:Recovery disk will not load, windows is locked

DAVEDerek, what are you doing up so lateAw shucks - must be a distinct lack of self control :(Natty1950As the first disk ran through and the second one didn't it does make me think the second disk might be impaired. I know it sounds crazy but sometimes a clone of a faulty disk (burnt at the lowest speed) can work if you care to try making one. I think it's because producing the clone is a steady read rather than in fits and starts when you are using the disk.A look into BIOS at the setting given in the screenshot (without any disk inserted) might have been worthwhile but I assume you can't get in there or something. Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

A:*HELP* Windows Won't Load After Using Compaq System Recovery

Ouch! The "Safe" recovery as I see it won't remove any malware.
The first thing you have to do is get you data off. You have a number of ways to go about this.
One is to pull the hard drive and attach or slave it into another computer and copy your data off that way.
Another is with a boot CD that allows you to access your hard drive from outside of Windows. There are a few options:
Both of these require you be able to "build" the CD's on another computer, which you have obviously, and access to an XP CD or at least, an i386 folder.
Ultimate Boot CD for Windows
http://www.ubcd4win.com/
The instructions are on the website. You boot the computer with this CD and then copy your data to CD's or a USB drive.

BartPE
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
Same sort of a deal.

Another is with a Linux "Live" CD, but we will leave that for now.

You may end up having to re-install Windows, which might be faster and easier that fighting this issue.

Luck!

A:Windows won't start, recovery disc doesn't work...

I've seen this happen a few times with jumps in current (which may have came from your lightning storm). It's not the SSD/HDD, and in my case, it was the southbridge controller failed, which houses the SATA ports. Specifically, voltage regulators were overheating, and after 15-30 seconds of attempted use on the SATA ports, it would halt it's process.

Possibly the most irritating part of the whole thing was that I could idle a system or RAM process (BIOS/memtest/etc...) with no problem. It was once I tried to use any mass storage controller that I had no luck.

I've heard of ways around this, like rigging a case fan to hang perfectly over the regulators and run at full speed to keep them cooled, but that was ridiculous for me, I just replaced the board.

For fun, have you tried swapping your SSD with a spare drive (if you have one) and loading a clean install of Windows to rule out what I'm referring to? If you can get up and running with a test installation, it will help determine where the issue lies.

Windows uses to display that start bar Windows loads normally till it gets to the point when startbar should appear where it does nothing alt-tab displays nothing 'Startbar' program doesn't load, how to force Windows to run cmd.exe/explorer.exe? either Only way I 'Startbar' program doesn't load, how to force Windows to run cmd.exe/explorer.exe? can run anything is by booting in Safe Mode with Command Prompt From cmd exe auto-starting I can start explorer exe and then other programs However since it s in Safe Mode I can t start internet which is what I really want to actually be able to research my problems Only way I got internet now is that I tried restoring a System Restore Point it didn t fix the start bar but that loaded non-safe mode windows with a link to the Windows Help Center program from which I could start IE and then browse to the hard disk I can t really have this as the only way to access internet Okay what I most want to know right now is how to make normal non- Safe-mode Windows boot up either explorer exe or cmd exe straight away before it tries to load the startbar I m probably due for a new computer anyway it s kind of old but I want to be able to use internet and access files in the meantime I assume this could be configured in the registry if anyone could tell me what to do I assume that things could be fixed with a Windows reinstall but I don t have the CDs though I have a legal copy of windows I even have the license number stuck on the computer here But I couldn t find the CDs when I moved out of my parents house a year ago and relations aren t too good so it will take a long time to get CDs off them or buy new ones I don t have internet access anywhere but here either so it s really important I have it so I can do stuff like buy nd hand WinXP if needed or buy new computer Also I work from home so no internet really throws a spanner in the works So my main priority is getting access to the file system and internet while working around the lack of startbar so it can tide me over till I can fix it Also I think the program which was supposed to fix the malware was supposed to run at startup but it doesn t Uninstalling it didn t change anything I disabled the only reference to in in the startup section of Spybot Search and Destroy but to no effect I used to use the program RunAlyzer to monitor change startlist since it has far more places in registry but now it crashes every time I try and load it nbsp

A:'Startbar' program doesn't load, how to force Windows to run cmd.exe/explorer.exe?

Try running SFC /Scannow from command line (you will need the XP CD) to reinstall the missing or corrupted Windows files.

Otherwise I suggest I would find a friend and get him to copy the XP CD for you to use (as long as you have your Product ID still, this is legal, you just need the files).
Alternatively, get hold of Vista or a Linux CD.

Hi, I have this problem where I am trying to go into my documents and into a folder that has many files in it. Sadly when it tries to load a box comes up saying that "windows explorer does not respond."
It shuts down, my tool bar disappears and then loads right back up.
I have tried system restore points, still nothing.
A Few times of just shutting down.
Deleted files, re-downloaded files.
It started today for no reason, no files have been downloaded or any programs.

I would love to know what I could do about this. :c
I have Windows Vista Home Premium.
Thank you, and hopefully I get a answer!

A:Windows explorer doesn't respond, Documents fail to load

1.Run cmd.exe with elevated previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:

sfc /scannow

2.If point 1 not help open event viewer (Start>>Search>>eventvwr.msc) go to Application section find errors relate to explorer.exe and post here full version of error messages.

A:Numerous errors. Windows 7 will not load recovery from disc.

I'm assuming you tried booting into safe mode and that didn't work? Safe mode loads very few drivers, so if that won't boot, it means a fundamental Windows system file is corrupted (thus the digital signature error you report). Which one? Well, there's the nub, eh? You tried booting into the DVD and selecting "Repair"?

There's more hackish ways of handling the situation, but even on Linux systems, where the package manager will tell you which OS file is corrupt and how to un-corrupt it (by installing the original package on top of it) and where I know how things work on a fundamental basis (I design Linux distributions for a living, duh), often once I get a live CD loaded and the filesystem checked and mounted, I copy the data I'm interested in to another drive and reinstall then restore (well, actually, I don't restore, since I always partition my drives as a system partition and a data partition and an install never touches the data partition, but I copy the data elsewhere anyhow before I do the re-install). Past a certain point it is more effort to fix the install than it is to re-install.

So anyhow, before doing something drastic like re-installing, check the SMART data on the drive first, the drive may need to be replaced. I just checked SpeedFan with an external USB hard drive and it *will* read the SMART data on that hard drive, so you can use that external USB case and check the drive using SpeedFan on your laptop. If you see any red ovals next to critical things like "Reallocated Sector Count", you probably should just reinstall onto a new drive then copy your files back over.

If you can get to your BIOS check to see if your hard drive is listed. if not then more than likely its failed and will have to be replaced. thats the first thing i thought of since what you have tried so far hasnt worked.the fact that the computer is about 7 years old the hard drive might be the culprit.

So guys Yesterday I was on PC everything was fine okay then I Windows (1080p) [SOLVED] suddenly load the doesn't resolution proper turned off PC because I went to sleep But when I woke up my PC resolution SUDDENLY changes to x and I can not change it back to x o O beacuse maximum resolution is suddenly x What am I supposed to do I swear I did not install any software which could do it I just normally turned PC off then at the morning I turned it on and bum my resolution [SOLVED] Windows suddenly doesn't load the proper resolution (1080p) is low Please help me somehow Thanks BTW This happend to me also around a half year ago on the same PC just the same problem so I reinstalled windows and everything was okay but you know I don't want to reinstall my win still when this happens I suppose it happend because of freaking windows update which I noticed while PC was turning off but I don't really know where could be problem with automatic windows update though I am using Windows Ultimate -bit

A:[SOLVED] Windows suddenly doesn't load the proper resolution (1080p)

I think Windows must have installed graphics drivers as part of the automatic updates. Please check the installed updates and look if graphics drivers are among them. You should be able to uninstall it and reboot. When it comes to automatic updates, latest is not always the best, especially with drivers. I prefer to get drivers from PC or GPU manufacturer's website, even if a newer version is available through Windows Updates. As long as it doesn't add a new feature (rarely does) or doesn't fix a security issue/vulnerability or some bug, it's not necessary. No matter the case, you should try reinstalling your graphics adapter (uninstall the existing version first). There's a tool being referenced a lot here that would help get rid of the drivers and it's associated files for a clean install to minimize the possibility of components from different versions conflicting with each other and causing some undesirable behaviours. I'll post the link to it if no one else does by the time I find it.

Hey guys! I'm new here and have a really serious problem in my friend's computer!
My friend told me that he opened some king of game (.exe file probably) played it for a while then his computer suddenly restarted itself. However, the problem is that since then his computer doesn't seem to load the Windows startup screen and instead it loads the BIOS setup screen directly after turning the computer on. (It doesn't seem to even try to load the Windows Boot.ini file).
It just shows the motherboard splash screen with a message "Loading Setup..." and then enters the BIOS setup in few seconds.

Do you know anything about this problem? Please help!

Thanks in advance!

Try changing the boot order of your bios setting and boot from CD to do a repair see if that works !

* Many computers out there are not configured to boot from the CDROM. If you cannot boot from the CDROM, this is probably due to the boot order of your computer being incorrect for CDROM booting.

You have two options:

1.) You can change this in the BIOS during POST, which is usually the very first screen displayed by your computer when you turn it on.

2.) Many newer computers have a selectable boot menu by tapping F8, F10 OR F12 right during/after the first POST screen. This will allow you to temporarily boot from a CDROM.
To enter your BIOS, most users here will press the DEL key.

Most users with Dell, Gateway, Sony & HP systems will press F2.

Many Toshiba laptops are F2 or require you hold the ESC key when you turn the system on. Your notebook will report an error and prompt to press F1 to enter setup. Do exactly that.

Compaq users will usually have to press F10.

IBM typically uses F1 or F2.

Other brands may have different keys to press to enter setup, but F1, F2, Del, Tab and CTRL+S or CTRL + ALT + S are the most common ones I'm familiar with. Often, the BIOS will display what button to press to "enter setup" during POST.
When you enter the BIOS setup, you need to change the boot order. The CDROM should be setup before the Hard Drive. Each BIOS is different !

Once changed then start a re-install from there !

Good Luck hope this helps !

I have an Inspiron 7520 and uninstalled and reinstalled the new version of Dell Backup and Recovery Manager -- upgraded to premium to make sure that I would have full ability to use the program. Note: the old version didn't work at all -- hung up on backup, etc.
I have rebooted.
When I try and open the Manager interface, I can't. All I get is the clock logo with the hand spinning. I cannot set the destination. I cannot select what I want to back up. I've tried this several times and just get the spinning clock which I end up ending through Task Manager.
I have tried opening the Manager from the installed link on desktop, from my list of programs, from the Start menu, and from the tray icon. Nothing works.
Any suggestions?
Nan

A:Windows 8 Dell Backup and Recovery Manager doesn't work

I have the same issue with the non premium version, I made the mistake of upgrading to v1.0.0.4 that is available for download and now have the same spinning clock, the program never loads so can't do anything with it. I have tried twice now to uninstall and then reinstall but still the same issue with spinning clock.
This is on a brand new XPS 8500 running windows 8. The reason I tried upgrading is that the version I had would not create recovery disk on usb key (would take forever to see the usb key and then would fail with pretty much useless error message before writing anything to the usb key, all it would do is format it to something that could no longer be read by windows.
