Solved: New computer build work with old build's Windows 7 Disc?

Q: Solved: New computer build work with old build's Windows 7 Disc?

My current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: New computer build work with old build's Windows 7 Disc?

It won't activate and you will end up in Safe Mode permanently. One machne = one license. You need to buy another full version. But you can do it if you don't use 7 on the old machine. You will just have to activate by phone and explain. Then if you go online with both, one will deactivate and go to Safe Mode.

Is it recommended to use the disc that comes with the MB or download the latest drivers beforehand from the internet to install on a USB key?
Do I have 30 days to get a Windows 7 License from the day I install the OS?

A:New Computer Build install with MB disc or get drivers from internet

Yes, you have 30 days to activate windows, take your time there`s no rush.

Depending on how old the motherboard is, there may be newer drivers at the website, to me it doesn`t really matter, you can always use the disc then upgrade the drivers manually, there aren`t that many to even worry about.

The disc that came with my Sabertooth Z170 is awesome, just check what you want to install and you`re off.

Don`t ever loose that disc, put it right back in the box when you`re done with it

Hello, this is a continuation of my previous thread, not sure what happened to it, but I would like to finally order the computer.

I want to list my finalized version, just to make sure so I don't have any doubts. Will the power supply work with everything? What about the motherboard? Just wanna make sure on all those general questions.

Are you referring to the Windows 7 7100 RC ISO?

Also, as far as burning a "recovery disk", windows is not detecting your DVD burner?

Don't use daemon tools to mount ISOs, use MagicDisk
Mount ISO Files - Freeware MagicDisc Download

If you want to burn images, use ImgBurn.

http://www.imgburn.com/

Windows may not be detecting your burner correctly, i have had this happen on old burners in older apps. With IMGBurn you can update your firmware on your DVD drive, which then it may detect it correctly after updating and rebooting.

in IMGBurn
Select "Write image file to Disk"
use the 'Tools' -> 'Drive' -> 'Check For Firmware Updates

Do you have the Razer Synapse software installed? That seems to have been what's caused it for me. Unfortunately I seem no longer to be able to trigger the update, darn it, as Windows now feels it has updated and all's fine (it hasn't).
uninstall the Razer software and try again. Hopefully it hasn't messed you up completely.

Windows 7 has reached RTM builds
and there will be several candidate builds in RTM.

first candidate build of RTM is build 7260.

6.1.7260.0.win7_rtm.090612-2110 - RTM branch build

compiled on 12 june.

You may ask why the first assembly win7_rtm has already been collected on 12 June not 15 June. There are several working groups involved in the process of assembling win 7 RTM build and will be assessing the quality of assemblies. Once the assembly is collected and its quality is confirmed, only then they put to the vote.

you may take time to understand all of these steps and procedures, so only the assembly from June 12 and June 15, attained the status of the real candidates for the final RTM release.

Edit :Link Removed.
but im not sure in news thread we quote links but not allowed in discussion threads

Assuming you updated to 14295 through Windows Update ?
If yes, try to reinstall using the newly released 14295 ISO file.....
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...mkD9g%29%28%29

Download the iso file that corresponds to your Win 10 Insider Preview version ( i.e. language and bit-version )> save it to a folder.
Right click at the iso file > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
Installation will begin.
No product key is required.
Activation will be automatic.

Hopefully, reinstall will fix the problems.

Im curious... I purchased a DELL preloaded with VISTA last year... it ran really slow and asked about downgrading to XP with in the 2nd day... DELL allowed me to and sent me the XP disc and install info. My question now is.... since I purchased the DELL w/VISTA HOME... and did not use VISTA on that system, am I within my rights to install that on another PC since I purchased the OS and never used it on the system? Your thoughts please.

A:using DELL disc for new build?

No, because you did not puchase a retail versionof the OS. You have an OEM copy that is licensed to be used only on the System that it was originally installed on. Attempting to use it on a different computer is a direct violation of the OEM EULA. You would further find that it is actually set up to run with the drivers and chipset of the original computerand if it even actually installed would not run properly if at all.

A:Installing OS on New Build Using HP Recovery Disc

You can`t use Recovery discs from another machine to install windows, it wouldn`t be legal.

If it came with no operating system you have some options.

Install Windows 10 Technical Preview for free.

Download Windows 10 Insider Preview ISO - Microsoft Windows

Buy Windows 7 or 8.1 from a vendor like Newegg

Operating Systems, Microsoft Windows - Newegg.com

Or you can install any version of Linux or Ubuntu, also free.

Looks good. The only thing I would change would be the hard drive. I would go with a WD black series drive. These are pretty heavy duty units with a 5yr warranty. Other than that, I see no real problems.

I am not a fan of antec pw supplies since I had a few die after 1~2yrs. I now recommend corsair pw supplies for high end builds. It is up to you if you want to go with the antec pw supply. Another option is an antec case that comes without a psu and then install a corsair, seasonic, PCPower&Cooling or other quality psu.

I am a fairly savvy computer user. I have installed RAM and understand a bit about the components of a computer. I have a new monitor and only need a newer system. Mine is 5 years old. I know there are guides to building my own computer, but I also know I would need to make sure items, such as DVD burner, motherboard, cpu, etc. are all compatible. How much should I know before I go into this? Is it a HUGE savings over buying a system already together? We have a Fry Electronics here in town and I know they have everything I would need. I would be happy to hear any/all advice.
Thanks!

First thing to do is go back over all the connections. You could easily have a couple wires in the wrong place. Also make sure all the connectors from the power supply are hooked up properly to the motherboard.

The recovery disk that came with my machine is now well out of date and I want to make my own, with all the latest drivers etc. I am running XP SP2 but XP came as an OEM inbuilt provision. The manufacturer (Tiny Computers) will not release a copy of the XP disk to me unless I pay the full XP price!
Do you have any suggestions?
Many thanks in advance, trevorjd.

Hi,
I built a new computer and seem to possibly be having AGP Enabling problems? Not sure if it is with the new mobo or just a program I was linked to that tests AGP. ANyway it says my AGP is not enabled at either 1X, 2X 0r 4X. The mobo is a ASus P4PE. I checked bios and it says set at 4X but..........? No real known issues with gaming problems but wonder if I am missing something?
My system is Asus P4PE mobo, Intel P4 2.4 Ghz processor, 256 DDR PC 2700 memory, 80 gb HD, Creative Labs GE Force 2 GTS Pro video, onboard digital soundmax 6.1 capable
If anyone can help I would appreciate it or just tell me maybe I am losing my mind and that it could be the program is not reding the AGP properly. That program is from www.entechtaiwan.com just called AGp if that helps.

Can I install Icon Packs designed for Build 7600 to Build 7601?

An Icon Pack was saying install on to 7600 only and after I checked my regedit, I learned that I have 7601 (Probably SP1, I don't know).

Would I have any problems if I install the icon pack?

Thanks.

A:Can I install Icon Packs designed for Build 7600 on to Build 7601?

You can normally install icons anywhere you like, on any machine or system which uses them, they are merely small graphics of various types. Unless the "Icon-pack" is using software to install something else, ( in which case be careful what it does), you can install it anywhere.

Some "Icon-packs" make extensive changes to system files, are dependent on the system to which they are installed, and best avoided.

Did you burn the iso to a bootable media, then insert the media to the computer ?
If that was what you did, then you would NOT see the Mount option.
Instead, you would see the Setup option. Use that to start the installation.

Check all your parts against www.newegg.ca, www.tigedirect.ca, www.bestdirect.ca, www.directcanada.com, http://www.bewawa.com/

Also you may want to consider the newer Phenom II X6 processors, 6 cores versus 4 and Turbo mode to automatically overclock the cores as needed: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103851 Should be on par or better then the 965 in most things and should improve with newer games that are more multi-threaded.

You can also step up to the new AMD 800 series chipset, the 880 and 870 do not support Crossfire like the 790, but the 890's do if you did want CrossFire Support - only if you device to buy another HD 5850.

The board you choose is nice in the fact that it too has USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0 support.

Hi everyone,

I just built a new computer, everything seems to power up (fans are working, drives are spinning), but I don't have any input on the monitor. Here are the computer specs:
ASUS M3N78 PRO AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8300 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.1GHz Socket AM2 89W
OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
Thermaltake TR2 RX W0134RU 550W ATX12V Ver2.2 SLI Ready Modular Passive PFC PFC Power Supply
Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Sony NEC Optiarc 20X DVD±R Burner Black SATA Model AD-7200S-0B
Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E 120mm Case Fan
I know the monitor is working fine since it works on two other computers, but it doesn't recognize any signal from this computer build. Any suggestions?

Ok well, I recently purchased parts for my computer, and I got everything installed just fine(or so I thought)...and so when I push the power button everything comes on fine: I hear the hum of the drives and see the CPU/Video card fans running fine.

However...I plugged in my monitor to both DVI and VGA, and I'm not getting a signal. The monitor works fine, I played it on my Xbox 360 via HDMI, so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.

But there is no image on my monitor...

If you need any more info let me know. I just really want to get this thing working.

I've been stuck on build 11102.rs1_release.160113-1800.
Going to Settings. Update & Security, Check for updates says "your device is up to date".
Checked for updates at least 10 times and always get the same response "Your device is up to date".

I don't want to download an ISO and clean install - I'd like to get the insider updates through
the standard update process.

Any suggestion or solutions?

Thanks

A:build 11102 will not download latest build 14271

Try this - worked for me in a similar situation.

I deleted all folders in the software distribution folder, selected to leave Insider Program from updates menu, rebooted, rejoined Program and then it found the updates. Try just deleting folders first and checking for updates. That works for some but did not for me (it was the leaving and rejoining that seemed to do the trick).

If you try rejoining and leaving, make an image backup of 11102 first, just in case leaving and rejoining should cause it not to activate (especially if you never started from a valid 7/8 licence). Good idea to make the backup anyway in case the upgrade fails (you would then have to go back to 10586 and start afresh)

A:Windows XP Pro Install Problems on new computer build

Hi hiltinc,

It seems the problem is Windows XP SP2's support for PCI-Express expansion slots.
You need to have a version of XP with SP2.

Perhaps entering the BIOS and disabling the PCI devices will help?

Or:

Hi . . .

A bugcheck with 0x0 parms like the one in your screenshot usually indicates unknown hardware failure; corrupted installation or other unknown.

Where did Microsoft Windows 7 Professional x64 OEM originate from? Is it a 90-day trial?

We (BSOD Analysts) are experiencing difficulties as the Windows NT Kernel was updated late last week and we have not yet received new symbol files, so at this time there is little else I can do.

I did go through the other files, including Event Viewer -- that's where the licensing info was listed.

A:Windows XP Pro Install Problems on new computer build

Have you went into bios and set it up? Time date etc,,,. With most
things you can set to auto. But say your video card is agp, you must
tell bios that, or say your harddrive is a sata drive, by default bios
will be set to Raid, you must set it to Ide, that would be the biggy.
Windows will not install it you have it set to raid. I think there is a
a option to select whether or not you are using a pci-e video card.
Take your time, and go through bios.

A:Random BSOD , New build computer with windows 7

Welcome to SF!

This is a volunteer site, and not paid tech support, so a paypal donation is unnecessary.

Looks like RAM is causing the issue. Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder. Boot from the CD, and run at least 5 passes.

Somewhat unusual situation here. A machine running the latest build (11102) got badly infected by malware. It was such a major attack that I was about to reload the earlier day's image from my Windows Home Server. But it seemed even easier to revert to the previous build, not yet removed from the Windows.old folder. This I did, and everything soon was running fine as expected.

The issue is that the Updates check is not offering Build 11102 again. This isn't a showstopper; I'm sure there will be another newer build soon. But it would be nice to be back up on this latest build, just as all my other Win10 machines are running.

Does anyone know how to make this happen?

A:How To Get Latest Build After Reverting To Earlier Build

Hi,
If you have set it on Fast ring, it will be updated after 24 hrs, so need to be patient.

Hi All,
I am currently running OS 7 Beta RC Build 7100. Were do I get this newer version, is there a big difference? And am I able to upgrade to the newer Beta?

I realize that October is fast approaching for the RTM but I plan to keep running the Beta for a couple of months past the Grand Opening.

Is it possible that all the updates that I have received equally add up to the newer build?

A:Upgrade from Build 7100 to Build 7264?

I'm still wondering where people got build 7600. :/
I'm running the same build as you, but this beta is gonna expire soon, so we got no choice but to get the RTM.

A:Best Utorrent Build For Vista Ult. X64 Build 6001

hi ,,, i also use utorrent,,, as regards tweeks, there is not much you can do,,, its more to do with your hardware if you want faster and more stable downloads and what profile your broadband is,,, im on an 6meg profile and achive about 5 meg as im about 2km fromthe exchange,,, i use a site called kitz.com in the uk and they sugest useing a router and resetting the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_transmission_unitif files collide then it has to be sent again,,, if the mtu is set to high it could be to fast and collisions happen and it has to be sent to you again slowing the download,,, default for ethernet setup on a windows os is 1500,,, to high,,, i reset mine to 1423 and torrents take less time now because files dont have to be re sent.http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/index.htmlook in ADSL tab at the top of the page and then "tweeking mtu" ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, good luck

A:New desktop computer build - Windows can't find the hardrive

Mystery solved. After 6 hours tooling around with the manual and the BIOS a bright spark suggested setting the BIOS back to the default and Bingo !! I had to delete the MBR partitions that I previously created, it didn't like them ("On EFI systems windows can only be installed to GPT disks" ) but I now have W7 installed on a GPT setup.

Many thanks for any interested readers.

Hi,
Bought this stuff from Newegg last week. Just can't get it to go. Bios picks up HDD but won't go through post sequence. Can't even format my Maxtor HD with the Maxtor CD. Seems like something is blocking access to the HDD. All help appreciated. Does anybody see any compatability issues?

I am wanting to know if this build should work or not. This is my third build and well I start the computer but it shuts off after 5 seconds and then reboots and I'm unsure of what is wrong.

A:Should this build work all together?

If the system is "running" for 5 seconds then I'd check to make sure that the CPU cooler is fitted correctly. The Intel stock cooler can be tricky if you haven't fitted many before. The cooler should be rock solid with no movement . The ends of all four push pins and the barbed edge of the scrivets that the pins sit inside should be sitting above the rear of the motherboard PCB.
I presume also that you have the CPU fan of the cooler plugged into the CPU fan header on the motherboard?

If the cooler is loose, remove it from the board and clean the heatsink base and the CPU heatspreader of thermal grease ( lint free cloth and isopropyl alcohol), when both surfaces are clean and dry, apply a rice-grain sized drop of new thermal grease (you'll need to purchase) and refit the cooler.

And yes, the system should work together. The RAM is qualified for the board which is the usual point of contention

i am also running a nvidia 9800 gt graphics card with the build aswell as 1 rear and one front fan if that helps with the psu question, thanks again.

A:Will my pc build work?

Just a few thoughts;
1 Do you really really need 16gig of ram?
2 I have never heard of the pw supply you linked to and what specs I can find on it do not make me think it is a quality unit. Up to you however I would give serious consideration to a corsair or seasonic pw supply.

A:Solved: Going from xp to windows 7 custom build

When you insert the Windows 7 DVD and boot from it, are you seeing the Press any key to boot from CD or DVD command?

I'm not sure what you mean by "when I get to the menu it won't show up".

Even if that computer has a display adapter that doesn't support and have drivers for Windows 7, that won't stop it from booting and installing.

I'm wanting to build a studio PC for composing and recording music. I've never built a PC before, and I'm wondering how I can tell whether all the parts and OS I've chosen will work together before buying.

I tried asking Newegg customer service, but they "don't do product recommendations".

I have a pretty good idea what I'm doing, I think.

Here are my parts, if you're interested:
-- Asus AM3 mobo (Newegg #N82E16813131366)
-- AMD Phenom 2 X4, 2.6GHz, 95W, w/ heat sink
-- NVidia GeForce 9800 GT, 512MB (Zotac)
-- 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM (G-Skill)
-- 640GB, 7200RPM SATA HDD (Western Digital)
-- SATA DVD burner (Samsung)
-- Mid ATX case w/ 500W power supply (Sigma)
-- Vista Home Premium, 64-bit
-- Haven't picked a soud card yet.

those components will indeed play together nicely, double check the specific ram kit with the support list though, Asus can be a little touchy about the ram used. here is your boards support list

I don't know where my last thread went with this but my Xonar DG sound card will not work in the Asus p8Z77-V board. I have tried setting the BIOS updating the BIOS the chipset the whatever and I have even heard back - eventually form Asus in Taiwan to try putting in the new BIOS etc etc etc.

Frankly I am getting very tired of this after a week of trying to get the thing to go, and it has been one thing after another. I just don't know what to try next the whole darn thing is so convoluted and just about impossible to follow.

Now short of changing the brand of board I shall just have to stick with the onboard audio which is so disappointing.
Any other ideas please.

A:Xonar will not work in new build

If the Xonar is PCI (not PCIe), many of the newer motherboards do not have a true PCI slot, but just a bridged PCI slot from the PCIe bus. Some PCI devices will not work or work correctly in this type of PCI slot.

I see a lot of problems with the bridged PCI slots on audio recording forums.

Hi there,
I've recently built the first pc i've ever built for my friend for his birthday. Though the build has gone well, the airflow is fine and temps are running low, I can't seem to install Windows 7.

The Spec is as follows;

MB: ASRock x79 Extreme 3
Processor: i7 3860 3820 3.60Ghz
Patriot 8Gb Ram
PSU :Coolermaster 750W
Windows 7

I'm having trouble with the Bios and exactly how I should set it up, as the windows logo hangs when installing and won't go any further.

Any more info you need please just let me know as help is much appreciated, my friend still doesn't have his present working!
Thanks.

Hi
Recently (3 months ago) I built my computer. Couple of days ago, I decided to swap out my CPU cooler with a Corsair H70 water cooler and swap out some other fans. I had to take out a bunch of things and I wanted to do some cable management so I unplugged and replugged a few things. So after everything was fixed up and put back into place, I booted it up. It just went straight in the bios, after exiting it just went back. It does this every time. I checked and double checked all my HDD sata's and the hard drive is spinning I can feel it it. I have Windows 7 installed and this has worked in the past. Any tips or suggestions? Just ask for more info!

I'll cut right to the chase; I built my new computer and I'm installing Windows 7 for the first time. Its stuck on "Preparing your computer for first use".

Methods I've tried:
Startup Repair via Disk
Unplugging my disk driver
Resetting BIOS

Specs:

1TB WD HDD
Gigabyte H170M-D3H
16 GB Ram DDR4 Hyperx Fury

This is very frustrating and I really wanna get this up before Spring Break ends ;~;
Thanks in advance!

(P.S - I'm a new scrubbo to these kind of stuffs so sorry for any inconvenience :-( )

Corsair Dominator TWIN2X PC8500 4GB DDR2

Unfortunately it doesn't work.

Well, everything seems to fire up but my monitor wont come out of standby.

What could be the problem?

Both 8pin and 24pin is connected to the motherboard. I have tried to connect the monitor to both the onboard GPU and the ATI 4890 GPU with wvery cable possible.. but with no result..

Also, I have gone through a checklist I found on another webpage and EVERYTHING seems to be installed correctly.

I get the following series of beep codes;

1 short beep then a long break

then 1 beep and two seconds after another 2 beeps.

then a little break on a few seconds

then another beep.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Hi, I have a HDD docking station that I use as extra storage for all my files. On my old core 2 quad it runs perfect. I connect usb switch on and the drive conects via atapi bridge. However I just built a new rig with a Gigabyte x99 SLI board with usb3 (backward compatible) and i7 5820k cpu. When I try to connect via usb it pops up installing and goes through searching for appropriate drivers but then says failed unable to install. Anyone have an idea what the problem is?

A:HD docking station won't work on new build win 7

Have you tried connecting it through all possible ports on the case?

I've seen odd behavior with docks. I have one that can connect by eSATA or by USB. The USB connection quit working entirely--regardless of which port I use on the case.

Do any of your other USB devices work through the same ports that fail with the dock?

Good, except for the E6600. Get the E6400 and overclock it (should overclock well with that board and your ram, without blowing up your processor in 3 years). Will save you quite a bit of money that way.

Also just a personal recommendation. Get the Enermax Noisetaker II 485W PSU instead.

The new build (7127 is the only new 1 so far) is available on most torrent sites. If you are having no issues with the RC build 7100 then you may not notice any difference, although, 7127 does seem a bit faster.

BugCheck 1A, {41790, fffffa8006d27560, ffff, 0}

- The 1st parameter of the bug check is 41790 which indicates a page table page has been corrupted.

Code:

Used Page Table Entries has fallen below zero which implies a 3rd party driver is very likely causing corruption. I took a look at your loaded modules list and I saw you have both Bitdefender + COMODO. This is causing NETBIOS/file system conflicts as you have two active solutions running, which in the end leads to memory corruption.

---------------------------

1. Remove and replace BitDefender + COMODO with Microsoft Security Essentials for temporary troubleshooting purposes:

BitDefender removal - How to uninstall Bitdefender

MSE - Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

2. Uninstall Samsung Rapid Disk.
