Preferred Solution: System reqs for up and coming games and graphics cards?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi magemofo,
can you tell us a little more about what you want from this machine/ like what res do you want to game at, what is your budget, do you want to overclock, do you do any video editing or rendering, etc. actually if you supply the answers to these questions it will help us get you better recommendations

ok, im about to ask the question that was just asked about 3 times, but me and several associates want to know.

does anywone know when the new directx10 cards will be coming out? and if so does anyone know whate flavor of processor?
my freind just recently invested in a 7600gt, he went for the low cost card so he could upgrade to a dx10 card in the future. and im going crazy to upgrade my 6800gt, but i dont think any cards will support dx10 right now. i know you can play alot of dx10 games with dx9.0c, but i want to take full advantage of halo 2's engine. ive scanned all the mag's (or at least the ones i get) and i dont see anything recently about dx10.

Thanks in advance

A:When will the new directx10 graphics cards be coming out?

NVIDIA's G80 DirectX 10 chips and ATi's R600 DirectX 10 chips are due in the upcoming months. NVIDIA's cards will release sooner though. Check out the news here.

Even though almost all the current graphic cards are AGP based
I was wondering whether there are any worthwhile games that can be played on PCI based graphic cards ?

Thank you.

A:Games on PCI based graphics cards

The only so called decent card left in the PCI arena would be an ATI Radeon 7000......This is a 64MB DDR card that's not too shabby for a lower end priced card.......
Hope this helps...

I recently played NFS Hot Pursuit 2 (released 2002), and the next day my Graphics card busted. The strange part is that I have been playing Robin Hood Legend of Sherwood AND Harry Potter 4 (both released after 2004 and with higher graphics) for over two months now and no problem arose. Could it be that NFS, and car games in general, exert greater pressure on the VGA Cards than normal strategy games? I am wondering whether to discard NFS or to play it, so this question is meant to help me decide whether I should continue with it.

A:Do car games exert greater pressure on Graphics Cards?

Probally not the game itself

Graphic cards are known to give out anytime no matter what is in use

Just take it as it failed and look for a suitable replacement

Also games like that especially older tittles won't put a fraction of pressure on the GPU
as newer tittles like SKYRIM CALL OF DUTY etc

your card was probally old and time for it to move on to the after life

If it is still new and have a warrenty just send it in for repair but if not chalk it up to age

I have had ongoing problems with a home built pc that I bought some time ago. At one stage it was working fine but the HD died and needed replacing. That was when the problems began. As it needed to be reformatted I was lost without all the drivers.Anyway my specs are as follows:
2 processors running Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80Ghz
CPU speed 2.80GHz rated at 4.20GHz
Ram 1023.5MB
OS XP professional Service pack 1
Disk space 177.4GB
Direct X version 9.0c
Minimum sound card
Video card and this is where I have the problem. currently NVIDIA GeForce FX5700.
My question is what card will work best on this system .The games I would like to play would be Fear, Ghost Recon etc
Any suggestions would be appreciated

I think I may already know the answer but....

Can you have 2 different graphic cards on the same system?
I know you can't run them (different cards) in SLI, but could you I have two installed but only 1 "abled" and the other " disabled " in device manager.

The reason I ask is that I have a free graphics card that I won. It is an ATI ALL-IN-Wonder that I want to use to transfer video to DVDs. It is a PCI-E x16 (256mb)and says it will be good for games also.

I was wondering if I could have another nVidia card just for gaming ?
Then 'switch' between the two ?

A:2 different graphics cards on same system ?

I was wondering if my GPU is compatible with my new MB.
It is an ATI All-In-Wonder x600 PRO. I am having horrible driver issuses with this card. I am crashing to the desktop and locking up. I can't even complete a benchmark test.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and gotten the latest MS updates.

It led my to wonder if an ATI card is compatible with a MB based on the nVidia chipset?

Any thoughts ?

Hi there,

My computer came with a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP card, which is apparently a Graphics/Video Card with onboard video (or the other way around, video w/ onboard graphics) Now, this is a terrible card- it can barely play any modern games. I want to get a new graphics card, but I'm concerned if I install a new Graphics Card, that because of the onboard video, it will affect this greatly, or if I actually need a video card instead of graphics. What do I actually need, and will it adversely affect anything on my PC.

I can provide more information if you want...

A:Windows 8 minimum reqs

Download this guide "Windows 8 Developer Preview Guide" page 17

Windows 8 is built on the rock-solid foundation of Windows 7, and it features many improvements in
performance, security, privacy, and system reliability. Everything that consumers, developers, and IT pros
have come to love about Windows 7 is still there ? only better. Refinements to the kernel improve system
responsiveness, security, and performance. Improvements in the driver model and tools chain for driver
development improve system stability and reliability. And Windows now runs on ARM devices as well as
x86 and x64. You?ll benefit from innovative security features and your apps run faster on Windows 8.

System requirements
Windows 8 works great on the same hardware that powers Windows Vista and Windows 7:
1 gigahertz or faster 32-bit or processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Of course, taking advantage of touch input requires a screen that supports multi-touch.

Apps run on ARM, x86, and x64 architectures
In addition to running on x86 and x64 devices, Windows 8 delivers even greater flexibility by running on
ARM devices. Depending on the technology you use, write your Metro style apps once and they can run on
any supported architecture. You can also take advantage of the unique capabilities of your customers? PCs.

Hey all, what are your opinions for the minimum requirments TO GET 60FPS? At the moment I have a PII300mhz, 4mb INTEGRATED/ONBAORD video, 288mb ram, and WinME. My friend has like an old HP computer with Win98SE, which is really unstable for him, and like 600mhz, and he can get around 60fps averege on 640x480, which is what I want. At the moment, I get around 15 to 25 fps, and it drops REALLY fast when I get in a firefight. This is in 640x480 in D3D mode, cause my video cant even support OpenGL.

So would you all say a OpenGL enabled video card and maybe around 600mhz computer would do the job? THANKS!

A:60fps Min Reqs Cstrike

Your problem is the 4MB integrated video and the PII300.

I have a Celeron 766 with 8MB integrated video, and it was able to get playable FPS at 800x600 OpenGL. With a GeForce4 MX420 PCI card in it, it was able to play perfectly fine at 1024x768. I never looked at the FPS, but it was definitely very playable. So I would just look into getting a decent video card, even a GeForce2 will be fine for Counter-Strike, and you'll be able to use OpenGL mode.

I have a Dell wireless 2350 broadband router but I do no own the power adapter. Nowhere in the manual or on the device are the power parameters marked. Can anyone who owns one measure the voltage an tell me if it's AC or DC? I could try plugging in power supplies but I don't want to fry the router.

A:Need Power Reqs Dell 2350 Router

You are probaby going to have to contact Dell or their support formus and give the complete part number markings, including revison; because the specifications show both 5V @ 2A, and 12V @ 0.5A ratings. Meaning the 2350 router has at least two versions.

I burned our an ethernet switch at work due to a similar issue with a Linksys EZXS16W. When the original quit working I bought a replacement with the same model number, figuring I could use the old 12VDC power adapter. It burned out and Linksys customer support claimed there was ever only one version that used 3.3VDC, so I must have used a wrong adapter. Wrong!

Ok, recently, it was confirmed that in order to run Battlefield 3 on Ultra you will need 2 graphics card. Now here is my question, what will I need in order to be able to support these 2 cards.

The cards are 2 Radeon HD 6850.
I have AMD Athlon II X2 255 Processor 3/11 dual core.
8.00GB RAM
Crosshair IV formula motherboard
Power Supply - 350w (I know I need to upgrade, but I don't know how much I should have.)

A:What do I need to run two graphics cards?

I think you misread the quote from the EA guy. He said that you will need two GTX 580's (or equivalent) to run BF3 on highest settings. Two HD 6850's are are about equal to one GTX 580. You will be able run the game with one or two HD 6850's, just not on highest settings if this person is to be believed.
You will need a PSU of 600w BTW. Secondly, BF3 is going to use up to 8 cores like it's predecessor and using a dual core is going to limit things for you.

A:Two Graphics Cards

I haven't had a great deal of experience with SLI myself but I can answer some of your questions to a certain degree. I am sure someone with far more knowledge will come along at some point.

1) From what I have seen in general, unless you are running two high end cards in SLI it is generally better to upgrade a single card for a better, single card. Of course, if you upgrade your cards aswell that will give an even better boost however it will double the cost.

2) Yes, both cards have to be the same.

3) Yes

4) Is your motherboard running an NVidia chipset? I don't know if it has changed but it always used to be the case that to use SLI you need an NVidia chipset.

SLI is the name given to NVidia method of running two cards, ATI use Crossfire which is essentially the same thing.

I've been looking to upgrade my graphics card so I can get a decent FPS going when I play any games or whatnot, but I have no idea which card would be a good replacement.

I currently have a run of the mill Dell Inspiron 530s and unfortunately, it only has space for a low profile card, which from what I understand limits my options by a lot.

It has a 3gb ram and a 250watt powersupply. The processor it has is a Pentium Dual core @ 2.20 GHz.

I would appreciate it if you guys could recommend me a decent low profile, x16 pci-express card that is below $100 and won't be bogged down by my low power supply.

Hello, I am new here so bear with me. I want to get the new Sims 3 game coming out in a few weeks. I did the system requirements lab, and it said that my video card was not up to par. I have the Intel Mobile 4 Series Express Chipset Family. Is there any way to replace this in a laptop or upgrade it so that the Sims will play efficiently? Also, can someone explain to me what the difference between integrated graphics and discrete graphics are? And why discrete are better. Thanks, sorry if its a lot.

A:Different Graphics Cards

Integrated graphics cards are integrated onto the motherboard of a computer. Discrete cards, also known as add-on cards are added to the computer using a slot (PCI, AGP, PCI-Express 16x with desktops, laptops are a bit different.) You can propably (depends a lot on the connectivity in your laptop) add a graphics card, but it will be external:
Where to find one of those and how much they cost, no idea. What I know is that they're not worth it. If you want to play a game, get a good game-capable laptop, or a same level desktop for 50% less.

A:I don't know what graphics cards will fit

Hi Fastboy,

Here is a link to your motherboard manufacturer's website with all of the specs and more for it.

GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Specification - GA-6VEML

According to it, you have 3 PCI slots (white ones) and 1 ISA slot (brown one). It says that the motherboard already has a integrated video chip with a VGA output if you wanted to use it. If not, then you can use any older PCI (not PCI-E or PCI Express) graphics card.

Hope this helps,

You are not able to use onboard graphics and a graphics card at the same time.

You can use 1 card to power 2 monitors (and sometimes more depending on the card)

A:Two graphics cards?

Yes it is. Your notebook has the Intel/AMD switchable graphics setup. For low demand graphics processing the notebook uses the Intel HD graphics. If your notebook needs more graphics 'horsepower' such as when playing video games, the AMD graphics kicks in.

I have tried the graphics card in the pci express 1 slot by itself and that does not work either.

Can anyone help, I have seen lots of conflicting info on the forums.

A:Two Graphics Cards

Do you have the right drivers installed for each card?

nvidia will not (by default) allow an ATI card to be the primary video card.

With a single card in the pci-e x1 slot, do you get a signal in safe mode?

I just put up a post in another seciton asking for general help with my computer's capabilites, but this refers directly to the double nvida geforce 8600 GT I have in my system. Is this a good graphics card? ( within reason)

A double 8600GT shouldn't be bad at all, but it's not at all top of the line... Can you please fill out the rest of your systems specs, it's easier to help that way Now what's the problem, your games are not working the way you want them, that's it? Or is there a problem with your SLI? Check your device manager to see if it shows the two cards, then they should be fine. Also, here's a link to update your drivers: GeForce Release 182

A:2 graphics cards

For most people, 2 graphics cards is overkill. Hardcore gamers are an example of someone who would be interested in this kind of setup.

If you are wanting to run the latest PC games at high resolutions on full settings then two graphics cards may be something worth looking into. If that is the case with you, just post back and we can help you pick the right setup.

The downsides are price of course, not only are two cards expensive, but also the costs of having other components that support diual cards (motherboard and power supply).

I was just wondering what specifications you should pay attention to when comparing graphics cards. I was just looking at base clock and boost clock speeds on a couple different cards and noticed, for example, that the GTX 770 actually has higher base and boost clocks than the GTX titan. This leads me to believe that there is a lot more to it than base and boost clock speeds since obviously the GTX titan is better than the 770.

A:What to look for in Graphics cards?

They are different video cards, the GTX 770 is essentially an overclocked GTX 680 with a higher memory bandwidth so its a different GPU than the GTX titan and 780 and a different amount of cuda cores. Because of this, it can do higher clocks to keep up performance while the other cards have more Cuda cores but will consume much more power and heat to do the same clocks which is why they don't do it. Its all about that balance!

Hello biesty and welcome to the forums

No, not the normal way anyway. Your graphics card isn't powerful enough to run aero, and it isn't supported in your drivers as the Radeon 9200 doesn't support DirectX 9.0, you have 8.1. You can use various customisation software to mimic the effect though:

I want to buy a new graphics card and this is the one I had in mind BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC 512MB PCI-E Video Card

I did a little looking around for prices on newegg and I came up with two more video cards that are similar but different in prices.

Zontac GeForce 9800 GTX
Evga GeForce 9800 GTX
BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC on Newegg

The BFG card is obviosly better, and I'll probably end up buying that one, but is there really that much of a difference between the cards?

My second questions is the power supply. I'll definatly need to buy a new powersupply, but i don't want to spend a lot of money on it. I found this one on newegg - Apevia Power Supply - is it good enough to run the BFG card and why/why not?

BFG and Evga are both excellent brands, you can't go wrong with either. Apevia is crap and I wouldn't even think about that. There are some Thermaltake units at good prices.

Have a 250W PSU and CANNOT put in anything's an HP Slimline. Most graphics cards have a 300W requirement or greater. If I stick in a card with a 300W requirement what would the logical result be? Crummy performance? Not work at all? Not looking for answers that are guarantees, just educated guesses from greater experience than I have.

Bottom line is I need a card no longer than 7" (otherwise it hits the HD cage) and can adequately run on 250W. Just as an FYI this is the card I'm considering: - SPARKLE SX84GS512S3LNM GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Hi guys

I posted a few weeks ago re upgrading my old Ge Force 6800 to something a bit more up to date, but have since decided I'd be better to go the whole hog and get a new rig.

I'm looking at a choice between the following:

Dual nVidia GTX 550 Ti 1GB PCI Express Graphics Card
ATI HD6870 1GB PCI Express Graphics Card

I gather the dual nvidias would be faster than the individual ATI, but would it be a marked increase? (I'm looking at the moment to play Skyrim at a decent rate, but obviously there's the future to consider).

I've not had a system with 2 gpus before - is there anything I need to be aware of or is it basically the same as having 1 card to the end user?

Any advice much appreciated!

Connecting two nVidia SLI or two ATI Crossfire cards together would practically double your performance while connecting them together as if they were one card. There are issues that can arise from SLI or Crossfire (I have only read about the issues), so if possible it might be best to get the performance you need from one card.

If you are thinking about SLI or Crossfire for a future upgrade, you might consider changing the 550Ti to 560/560Ti. The 560/560Ti closer matches performance of the HD 6870.

I've not had a SLI or Crossfire system either so consider my post as opinion based on what I have read over the last two years. Even though not completely accurate, I base allot of performance levels from PassMark - G3D Mark. The reason for the inaccuracy is mostly from the scores being influenced by Over-Clockers. The benchmarks do give a general guideline for performance.

Which motherboard are you using? I would go for the NVidia myself, as it's what I use on my system (not that particular card, but an 8800GT). However, I would base my actual decision on your chipset - if it is NVidia-based then I would go with that and if AMD-based then the ATI card.

A:Graphics cards

What the reason for the purchase?

If you have an NForce4/5xx/6xx series motherboard then you can buy another 7600 series card and run the cards in SLI.

If you want multiple monitors support, more then two, then you can just about buy any other card to do that.

If you have an Intel or ATI chipset based motherboard then you can't do SLI with a second 7600 series card and you have to buy a better card and the 7600 will no longer be useful at all.

i just got a new comp and just found out it only has a pci express x8 and x1 and 2 pci slot. what graphics cards can i use that will play BF2 and other games

A:graphics cards

please correct me if I'm mistaking(I still run on good old AGP ) but as far as I know, one can run pci-express cards that are x16 on a x8 slot. It will run slower, but if you have a good card, it will run any game easily. The speed difference isn't that much. Anyway, it really depends on the games you want to play. If indeed you can run x16 pci express cards on a x8 slot, you can choose any card you want.. my advice is to choose one from the 7 series(anything in the nvidia geforce 7 series will run BF2 just fine) but with an eye on the future, a 7600gt is recommended. If you have the money to spare, an 7800gt/gtx or a 7900/7950 are even better. If you have money to burn, go for either the 8800GTS or 8800GTX. (these are from the new nvidia geforce 8 series) these are the top of the line cards at the moment, but they're expensive. Can someone please confirm that x16 cards will run on x8 slots though? thanks.

edit: did I just sound like an nvidia fanboy? I just completely forgot about ATI. it's because I've always used nvidia... hmm, well, the x1800/1900/pro/xt/xtx will do just fine too. At the moment, the 8800GTX is the best card on the market though, but I dont know if that's what you want.

Well first off, that is a good card. I am running a 9500GT myself, and it works great.
If you do want a better graphics card, then you are looking at around 200-500 dollars, depending on the memory.

First off, are you looking to keep NVidia or is ATI ok? For NVidia, the GeForce GTX 280 is the best of the best.
ATI's best card is the Radeon HD 4800 series, once again, best of the best.

Those two will give you the best picture quality available.

However, I am unsure as I am looking to get a mid-high end graphics card but I also want the most for my money, as anyone would. That being said I am told that there isnt that much performance difference between a new generation. For example I heard that between the 760 and the 960 you only get a few extra fps.

But as I am also told, there is no purpose in having the gfx card if you dont have the display for it. I want to game on this, so what GFX card should I get?

A:Graphics Cards

The one reason to upgrade your GPU would be to keep up with the new games for a longer period of time
than the older GPU will. But, this entails allot of other components. PSU , CPU , motherboard compatibility.

As far as the screen refresh rates is concerned, if you already run a 120Hz panel then, going to a 240Hz will bring
little to the viewing experience but, being able to handle more screens at higher resolutions will enhance your

So, it depends on what you're looking for , longevity or just handling more screens at higher resolution and / or
higher refresh rates (Hz.)

Hi all,

I recently bought Everquest 2 for the PC and found out that my GeForce MX 420 won't allow me to play the game. I, in my burning desire to play the game, convinced my friend to let me barrow is graphics card until I got a new one. He has a GeForce 3 Ti 200, and it works good, but I am looking for something a little better. I'm looking for a card around $200. I need to know what is good and why. What is the best card I can get for around $200 or under?

All help is greatly appreciated.

Actually, i think that guy was just trying to be smart.

Need to know if your graphic card is a AGP slot or a PCI slot.

You actually need not do any setting as i believe the graphic card comes with a CD installer!

The process along the CD installer would update the bios, registry info.

Its a simple job. i think if u have some knowledge of computer installation, you can do it.

when i tried to check what type of graphic card i have on my hp laptop i found that i have 2 actually
1 is called intel HD garphic familly with 1GB memory
2nd is called radeon with 1,8GB memory what does that mean? by this question i mean does i have 1 GPU'z or does those 2 actually come together?

A:I have two graphics cards. What does it mean?

you have 2 graphics cards. one is dedicated, in your laptop solely for the purpose of providing graphics (the radeon). The other, the intel HD graphic family, is built into your processor. Chances are, the radeon is better. Although i dont know, depending on what radeon model you have. almost all of them will be better than the intel though.

Hi, i have a Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard with a Asus Radeon HD 4890 graphics card, and i was thinking about putting in an extra graphics card just for the extra monitor slot so i can use all my 3 monitors. I have a friend that also has the 4890 and did this with a Nvidia card. Will it work with my Sapphire Ultimate X1950 Pro?

And where on the motherboard should i put it? If you look here, 1 is a PCI-Express x16 slot (x4 electrical) and 3 is a PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slot (x8 electrical)

Hello, I need to upgrade my graphics card with something that supports 4k resolution and at least 1 HDMI output.  Ideally it would have 2 HDMI outputs and support 3 displays, but my hopes are not super high on the latter.  I also see products out there for external graphics cards and unsure if I should choose an internal or external.  Could someone help me figure out what I need? Thank you!
