I bought a Dell Inspiron laptop new in Italy in the close burning the and keeps DVDs drive the fails windows burning spinnin When but December from a major computer store The computer came installed with Windows Home Premium Italian and I have installed on it an original version of Microsoft Office When burning DVDs the windows close and the burning fails but the drive keeps spinnin XP Professional Edition English The CD-ROM unit is a Matsushita DVD -RW UJ Since I bought the computer I have sometimes had difficulty burning DVDs with the When burning DVDs the windows close and the burning fails but the drive keeps spinnin built-in Windows burner function that I access from Explorer Often in the past I have ended up with partially written DVDs Nevertheless by using high-quality DVDs I have been able to burn DVDs successfully most of the time using the Windows utility I last used the utility successfully a couple of months ago when I burned a couple of DVDs to backup some photos Since yesterday I have been trying to backup my most important files onto DVDs The attempt has failed in every case First I copy about GB of files from drive C onto drive D in Explorer These are several hundred files divided into three different directories consisting mostly of PDF Word Excel and JPG files some of them with names in foreign scripts like Cyrillic Japanese or Chinese Then I insert a new DVD either Verbatim or TDK and attempt to master the DVD by selecting the option write to disk from the Explorer menu whether from When burning DVDs the windows close and the burning fails but the drive keeps spinnin the menus at the top of the screen or by right-clicking on drive D in the lefthand pane of the screen A window pops up asking me for the name of the disk whether I want it to be flash or one-time only and the recording speed x x x etc Once I click continue to start burning the DVD a window pops up to tell me that Windows is making an image of the disk and then the window tells me that it has begun mastering the disk giving me a countdown of how many minutes are left minutes to minutes depending on the speed I choose But no matter what name I give to the disk and what recording speed I pick after - seconds the popup window and the Explorer window both suddenly close and the DVD unit s writing light goes out but the DVD unit continues to whir at high speed forever Here are the results I got yesterday with separate DVDs On the first DVD I used Windows s burn utility on a Verbatim DVD and I ended up with files burned onto the DVD making it unusable On the second try I used some simple burn software that I had used before Roxio Burn on a TDK DVD and ended up with files burned onto the disk but from different folders than the files burned by Windows On my third attempt after going offline shutting down my antivirus software AVG and using Task Manager to shut down processes from that other burn software Roxio Burn I used Windows s burn utility again on a TDK DVD and ended up with the identical files that had I ended up with the first time though this time I had chosen a lower writing speed In all three of these attempts the DVD unit continued to whir after the windows had closed until such time as I ejected the disk manually When I first encountered this problem yesterday I thought the problem might be caused by my antivirus software AVG Free Edition interfering with the writing process because after one particular automatic update by AVG about two months ago I began having problems with AVG blocking Skype and placing some of my Nokia cell phone software in quarantine But by disabling the HIPS element of AVG I was able to resolve those problems several weeks ago and begin using Skype successfully again But just to be sure today I disinstalled AVG completely and installed Microsoft Security Essentials Because I had read in a forum online that Windows might have conflicts with other burning software that was also installed today I also disinstalled the only burning software that I had installed Roxio Burn and did a cold reboot Before attempting to burn a DVD again today I also used Task Manager to shut down some other processes that didn t seem necessary such as a Nokia autolauncher and a Java autoupdate process I also changed the time delay for Windows sleep or power-save function to one hour I inserted a new TDK DVD accepted the disk name proposed by Windows chose for the disk to be permanent rather than flash and chose a burning speed of x After seconds I received a popup window with the following message ST Service Scheduling has stopped working I ignored this message and did nothing because often in the past when I have succeeded in burning DVDs with Windows s utility I have had this message appear but if I do nothing I almost always have the burn proceed successfully In this case though after another - seconds the Explorer window and burning-countdown window both closed the DVD light went out but the DVD continued whirring at high velocity The DVD unit did not respond to my pushing the expel button by hand and when I tried to expel the DVD using Explorer I only got an error message so the DVD could be expelled only by shutting down the computer When I turned the computer back on I discovered that no files at all had been written to this DVD In case it may be of help below are the details from the ST Service Scheduling error message in Italian sorry Whenever I get these ST Service Scheduling error messages I get them twice i e after choosing Close one time the same message immediately appears again and I have to choose Close a second time Nome evento problema APPCRASH Nome applicazione STService exe Versione applicazione Timestamp applicazione ae c Nome modulo con errori STString dll Versione modulo con errori Timestamp modulo con errori e d Codice eccezione c Offset eccezione abcc Versione SO ID impostazioni locali Informazioni aggiuntive a e Ulteriori informazioni a e d b ad b a e Ulteriori informazioni a e Ulteriori informazioni a e d b ad b a e Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for correcting this problem and burning DVDs successfully Thanks a lot Sysinfo Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version OS Version Microsoft Windows Home Premium Service Pack bit Processor Intel R Celeron R CPU GHz Intel Family Model Stepping Processor Count RAM Mb Graphics Card Mobile Intel R Series Express Chipset Family Mb Hard Drives C Total - I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
My guess would be theres something wrong with the dvd drive.I also have the same computer.Either the laser in it is shot or needs cleaned or the whole drive has failed.https://forums.techguy.org/threads/when-burning-dvds-the-windows-close-and-the-burning-fails-but-the-drive-keeps-spinnin.1027134/
Doesn't automatically ask to burn when new DVD or Cd is 'injected'.
This just started happening for no reason whatsoever.
Why everything online has to be so complicated?
I bet you think that^^ all the time, huh?
Anyways, Win7, 64, thanks for any light you can shed here...
What program are you using to burn the DVD?http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/242180-burning-dvds-does-not-close-out-files-when-done.html
Here are the links to the threads I posted on other message boards figuring it was a problem just burning movies- but it's obviously more of a problem:
Also, can the drive in an HP 5070us be replaced? Someone said it can't but the HP customer care guy said to bring it in for service to get it replaced.
If I go with an external burner, do the newer DL DVD burners burn CDs as well?
Now it gets weird-
I had an older CD I had a few pictures on so I put that it and tried using DeepBurn. I hit the wrong folder in My Documents, but anyway, it was able to burn the Word, Excel, and BMP images in that folder.
So I tried burning pictures, but got a HARDWARE ERROR: TRACK FOLLOWING ERROR. When I tried burning and ISO image onto DVD I got MEDIA ERROR: (12,128).
How could it burn files, but not ISOs and pictures?
The Acer recovery manager will only let me make a recovery DVD drive and I want it on DVDs.
The selection to burn to DVDs is greyed out.
Is there a way to burn the data from the DVD drive to multiple DVDs.

What exactly is a "recovery DVD drive"?
I know what DVDs are. I know what DVD drives are.
You say "burn the data from the DVD drive". More confusion. A DVD drive doesn't hold data. DVDs do.
What do you think you want to do?
Help I have an HP b DVD burner I use the Nero software that came with the burner My system has MB RAM XP SP and a watt power supply I just replaced the IDE data cable for the DVD and CD burners and switched power supply leads The burners use the secondary IDE port The hard drives use the primary The DVD burner is about months old and has burned burning with and HP drive DVD Nero fails 6 disks fairly regularly since I installed it DVD burning fails with HP drive and Nero 6 Some turned out to be quot coasters quot but not to the extent I experience now I also downloaded and installed driver updates from HP and removed the burner from the device list and let XP discover it again I can t get it to burn a DVD The software reports the drive is empty or not ready and I just put a new blank DVD into the drive Or it burns about and fails I have different brands of DVD disks Dynex Fuji and Maxell The Dynex will usually burn at - x the Fuji anywhere from - x and the Maxell usually at x All now fail without completing the task The Nero software will burn a CD nicely even using the new Memorex x burner I got for Christmas Any ideas or suggestions nbsp
I need help asap burning pictures to a dvd-r. I am using Windows 7 on a hp laptop. I keep getting the error message that the dvd-r that I am trying to use is not supported by my system. Can someone please help me fix this so I can burn my pictures? Thank you...Wrenie
OK, first has the DVD-R already have files burned on it? You can only use a DVD-R once, unless you chose to not close the session after burning. Next, what software are you using to burn the DVD? This may seem obvious, but do you have a DVD/RW drive?
Be sure you are using a blank DVD-R that is a name brand not a generic (Phillips, Sony, TDK etc) Try using the free program CDBurner XP and choose to make a Data Disc, and drop your photos into that.
Nero Burning ROM crashed during burning and now my DVD drive is unusable. I cannot open the drive, I cannot shut down the computer because it says "Waiting for DVD Drive D:" and the drive runs like it is still burning despite the program doing the burning is no longer open. It isn't even in any process. What can I do to make the drive stop?
Go to Task Manager...shut the system down from there.
Turn system off....hard shutdown if necessary...disconnect the optical drive.
Sounds to me like it's a hardware problem moreso than a software problem if you cannot manually open the drive.
Every time I try to burn a DVD my windows shuts down completely then reboots I have a hp pavilion dv6000 laptop computer and 2 DVD drives (one internal [factory] one external [hp dvd 1170d])this happens when burning on either drive. It did work fine a couple months ago. Both drives burn CDs just fine this only happens when burning to DVD.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!
I want to burn DVD's using windows DVD maker on windows 7 but losee the sound once I try to playback using the newly burned DVD. The image is perfectly clear but no sound.
I had a look and the only filter I can see under options is the AVI decompressor. If I listen to it by clicking review movie I get sound but once I burn it to DVD sound is gone. I tried different file formats and still the same.
Anybody have any ideas to fix this issue??
Hi Jenni Leigh, welcome to Seven Forums.
I found it to be too slow & unreliable, so I use Free Video Converter | MP3 MP4 AVI 3GP MKV DVD | FREE Download
I made a slide show on Windows Movie Maker (on XP), and currently I have no DVD burner hooked up on my computer. I was thinking I could copy it to a flash drive, then bring it up on another computer and burn it to a dvd. Will this work, and am I missing any details that you can think of in order to get it to work? I need to know ASAP because it's for a wedding dinner on Thursday.
I Have An Acer Aspire M 15.6 inch laptop
With a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GU61N Drive in Devie Manager
All of a sudden I Can't Burn DVD's Anymore ....
I can still burn cd's ... but not dvd's ...
I reloaded my entire system to no avail and cannot burn dvds again
I went into the registry and deleted the higher and lower filters and it started working again for a while
but now it has stopped again ... and yet once again .... there are no filters in the registry now so i have no idea what to do
Is this from a batch of DVDs you've used previously? They could be defective. Get some new ones (different brand - make sure you aren't getting from the same manufacturers batch) and try them. The optical drive is obviously working since you can burn CDs so it sounds more like a disk issue rather than a hardware issue.
I've tried Nero 8 &9, cdburnerXP, Roxio, Ashampoo and "every" disc fails to burn using these programs. On the otherhand Imgburn works fine.
I'm running Windows 7 Professional and had Ultimate running with the same outcome. Latest version with all updates.
It's as if anything that doens't burn in the same way that Imgburn does will fail. It doesn't even get to burn to the disc actually it will do it's intro and then say fail. I can hear the drive spin up but after about 1 minute says burning failed.
I also tried using Burrrn to burn FLAC files to an audio cd and Burrrn fails as well. I probally could handle it and use Imgburn but how do I burn FLAC files with Imgburn? I most likley will revert back to Vista until WIndows 7 SP1 comes out.
Hmm well there could be multiple problems -
1. What write speed are you trying to burn at? Don't burn @ maximum best will be 6 - 8x.
2. I'm using Alcohol 120% and I've never had a single burn ever fail I don't see why thoes programs would.
3. Are you sure you have a properly working DVD burner?
Its weird that only ImgBurn would burn but none of the others..... Hmm have you made sure the disc ImgBurn burns works? Anyway answer theses and I'll get back with whatever information I can as soon as possible!
I have a video clip that I took with my home video camera. I used windows movie maker to create a WMV file in windows XP. I now tried to burn it to a CD using windows Vista. I tried both Windows Media Player and the windows media center. Both of these programs ended with a burn failure. The windows media player gave me the message that I had no burn rights for the file.
How do I embed burn rights into this file?
Thanks in advance for your responses
Left click on the "burn" button in Media Player and select "Data CD or DVD" for your home video clips.
I have been trying for three days to convert and burn to DVD a movie that I downloaded as an .avi file....I have converted it many times with many different programs and whenever I try to burn it, it is always too big for the disk. The closest I have come was with WinAVI which converted it into two files...however, they are still too big (over 5 gig)....I am totally lost!!! what do I do next???
is there any way that i can burn a DVD disc using my CD writer? or do i have to buy a DVD writer?
I am having a queer problem I recently bought a Sony DVD Writer I have been burning my movies onto DVDs in the past couple of days On an average to burn GB of data on the DVD it takes about - minutes it says burning at X speed I am using the OEM version of Nero which came along with the DVD writer Now the problem is sometimes it takes only minutes to burn GB of data which according to me is next to impossible Note that all the files I am burning are DIVX or XVID encoded AVI files The DVDs that took minutes to burn do not play properly either on a standalone DVD Player DivX compatible or on the computers DVD drive The video files have broken sound skipping video etc and some of the files dont play at all Whereas the DVDs that took about - minutes to burn work perfectly fine Could anyone tell me what can be the possible cause Is this some known error Any help will be truly appreciated Thanks nbsp
First i just wanted to make a DVD I tried using a couple of different dvd burning software like Aimersoft and Nero both always fail to completely burn my videos so i tried just putting the dvd into my computer and clicking the burn files to disc and then tried to make a dvd like a usb drive but it wont complete the format. It will however let me burn cds using Windows media player and itunes. Can someone please help!?
you need to encode them right,
try using windows dvd maker.
Sounds like your trying to make SVCD's .. and that's not what you want these days.
My father in law just bought me a DVD-R -RW burner I see adds burning DVDs? in the paper all the time burning DVDs? for dvd-r and dvd r what is the diffrance between the can I only burn on the -r ones My mother in law bought me a sony digital camcorder I have children and live miles from them not far enough away I think they are trying to tell me something here I know they want me to make some home movies of the kids for them even though I have not figured out how to transfer the movies from the camera I am still working on that so the first question is what is the dif about the dvd s The nd one is I want to make it so that when I send them the movies that they can watch them on thier dvd player I have seen some softwear that is called DVD-x for making dvd movies is that what I need or is thier something else that is better I still need to get a DVD decoder so that I can even watch dvd s on my computer now Thanks nbsp
I've heard DVD-R is better. Is that true?
Really? Because I recall hearing the opposite. I don't believe either is better than the other. I do recommend burning at the lowest speed possible and maybe buying from the second cheapest brand. If you do that, you should't have a problem.http://www.sevenforums.com/software/103119-dvd-r-dvd-r-burning-dvds.html
sorry guys just didnt know if this was the place for this.
any way i just purchased a new dvd burner and was wondering if i was going to have trouble burning back ups of my dvds. my siblings mess everything up so i want to make copys of my dvds so they can watch them. a friend told me that it wasnt possible without the right software please help!!!!!!1
Hello.. I have some old movies that I would like to burn to DVDs. I have 4.7GB DVD-R's that I bought and I am using Nero 8. The first time I tried burning a DVD I used NeroVision and I used a video guide. In the very last part where you choose to burn to a dvd it showed the person choosing their dvd drive, but for me the drive wasnt there, so I chose to save it to my documents. I have a Dell Dimension 3000 and im pretty sure it has a Burning Drive because where you put in the disc it says compact disc ReWritable and the DVD rom symbol. Should I use Nero Burning Rom instead or can someone guide me through the process?
Any help Appreciated!
Ok to start with you can't burn dvd movies that are copyright. For example like The Hulk or Spiderman. As it would be illegal. Now if its home movies you are after to burn new copies now you can do that. And i don't think your computer has a dvd burner. If it did it would say something like dvd writer. now i might be wrong though. Now i have read your computer has a dvd reader though.
hello all! I am trying to burn dvds through either nero or sonic dvd LE up till recently I was able to burn the dvds. Now I am unable to burn. I get a error that states on Nero that I no longer have enough temp space in my C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCAL~1\temp. and on Sonic it just tells me that I dont' have enough temp disk space to burn. I have deleted everything in all the temp files that I have found by doing a search and I am still having the problem. Is there something that I can do to keep me from having to restore my computer back to factory? I am running Windows XP. Thanks.
try defraging, restarting, doing a disk-cleanup, all that fun stuff.
then (if you can) re-install the burner and your dvd burning software.
Hi all. I've got an HP Pavilion 750c, 1.8ghz, 80gb hard drive about half full, and I recently installed an HP 530i dvd burner. The burner burns cd's just fine, but I can't get a DVD to burn to save my life. I'm using captured home video, BTW.
First I tried ArcSoft Showbiz 2, which came with the burner, and with most of the DVD's I burned, the menu shows up, but I can't get any further. I click on the menu and nothing happens.
I have downloaded the InterVideo WinDVD Creator 2 trial version, and it seems to burn OK, but when I go to play the disc, the colors are all dark and wrong. I've tried to play them with RealPlayer, InterVideo DVD, and WMP.
I have tried this with cheap discs from Fry's and some Memorex ones too, just to see if it was the cheap discs. Now I'm plum out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated.
I use Sonic MyDVD version 5.
MyDVD does not have all the bells but its the most stable program I have used by far!
I have used it to capture at least 350GB of video from Mini DVD tape and have burned several hundred DVDs.
DVD buring, you will soon find, is not an exact science.
Others in this forum can help you better if this proves to be a hardware issue.
If you want to try a MyDVD trial hit http://www.sonic.com/
You also might want to check out your DVD burner vs. blank media options, etc. @ http://www.videohelp.com/

Are the dvds that are burning in 6 mins, burning at higher speeds than normal? (above 20x) Sometimes faster burning speed can reduce the quality of dvds you burn from your computer, try burning at a slower speed to see if there is any improvement maybe?
I have never burnt a DVD before and have absoultely no idea what I'm doing. can anybody help me!!!
Do you have a dvd drive, and software that supports dvd burning? If so, all you need is a blank writable dvd, insert it into the drive, and create a compilation from your burning software and burn it. Don't know what you are burning, and it makes a difference. A search at www.majorgeeks.com will give you numerous free burners.Good luck.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/28987/burning-dvds/
Finally got through my first day with Windows 7, must say it does get easier.
I'm trying to get the programmes onto my new system that I ran using XP. I've been using Nero 6 on my XP system, can anyone please advise if there is anything in the new Windows 7 that can burn CDs and DVDs or should I try and download Nero 6 if it works with a 64 bit system?
Sometimes when upgrading OS from Windows XP to Windows 7 the programs might not work in Windows 7 because Windows is a lot different compatibility issues. Try going to the Nero shortcut right click on it select Properties the click on the Compatibility tab then change it to Windows XP SP2 or SP3. See if that helps.
Have you tried XP mode with Windows 7? http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

I would like to burn it onto a DVD disc so I can watch it on my television via my ordinary DVD player.
Can anyone suggest a good software package that will do this job.
Is it possible to burn 2+ hours of video file to a standard DVD disk ?
I have no problem burning aound 1h 40m of video.
Unless, there's a compression software that would work.
My System :
Windows XP Professional 32-bit
2.8ghz AMD Processor

NVidia GForce 210 w/ 256RAM
I've checked limitations of my System, and I'm pretty much sure that I can't use dual-layer disks.
Any Suggestions ?

I have a HP computer with a DVD burner and finally figured out how to burn my camcorder footage to a hard drive and then burning it to a DVD. Ihave DVD+R's and when I'm finished I can play them on my computer but not on my DVD player or my son's Sony Plastation 2 so I can watch it through the TV. I called my free tech support through HP and one guy said call DVD manufacturer and he can help you change settings so it will work I don't believe this so I called back and someone else said if it plays on the computer it should play on the DVD player for the TV. Do you need a special DVD player for television so it will work. Any comments or suggestions. THank You
I believe that many more older DVD players used the DVD -R format.http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/19201/burning-dvds/
i have a friend who believes that if he buys a dvdr or dvdrw, he can just rent a dvd movie (ex// the matrix), burn it, then give it back, thus owning a dvd movie at the fraction of the cost (or borrowing someone else's movie, buring it and giving it back). I dont believe it is possibe. Is he rite or Im rite?
Firstly, what you are describing IS piracy, IS copyright infringement, and IS illegal.
And even if your friend gets a DVD writer, there is still CSS encryption on the DVD. This means that, for example, if he was to copy the files from the DVD onto his hard drive and then try to play it, it would not work very well at all, because 1/4 of the content he had copied to his HDD would be gibberish.
If he wanted to copy DVDs, he would need a piece of software which strips the CSS encryption from the files as they are written to the hard drive before he burned them to a DVD. I believe that such software, although available here and there perhaps, is also illegal now.
There is software around to rip DVDs to Divx files to burn to CDs.
Lastly, I don't believe that this "friend" of yours exists, and that in fact you are talking about yourself. So why not come clean about that??
But if your question is, is this possible? Yes. It is. If you strip the CSS encryption away whilst writing the files from the DVD to your hard drive, and then burn those to a DVD disk, yes. I have seen it done.
Used to use Nero to burn audio cds and video dvds. Do I still need to use burning software or is windows7 capable of the same in the following situations?
Burning audio cds by dragging mp3 files and having then burned as an audio cd.
Burning video dvds by dragging and burning the video_ts and audio_ts folders.
Windows DVD burner seems to only burn movie files like mpg which are converted during burning to a playable dvd. Haven't tried the burning of mp3 files through windows media player yet.
Not sure it helps you, I guess it's more of a vote-like thing, but personally I still use Nero. I don't see any advantage in using the built-in burning capabilities, given that I do have Nero already. Maybe if i had to decide whether to buy it or not, I would think more on the issue, but since I did that already, there seems to be no issue at all.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/101921-burning-cds-dvds.html

You have to find out in which form the film is posted in. Most films are uploaded in a form of compression to enable people to download them quicker. You need to post here the type of compression used in the films that you cant play. For instance, if its an AVI file, the film will only play in a DVD Player that supports AVI. You can convert the files into another type of compression, or you can convert it to Vob files, which all DVDs are produced in. But if you post the details, I will try and help you more . I have brought some Memorex DVD+RWs but I am having trouble burning DVDs.
The problem is that the PC will not recognise the DVD+RW disc. So every time I go to 'write these files to CD' I get stuck on the wizard when it asks me to insert the DVD, I have done but the PC is not recognising the disc.
I did it before using nero, I put a CD-R in and using Nero I made a CD which played video on my DVD player, but I am not sure if this is the same.
I looked on Device Manager and I have a SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SM-348B. I am running Windows XP Home.
Can I actually burn DVDs on this PC?
If not, what do I need to download/buy to get my PC recognising the DVD+RW discs and enabling me to burn a DVD.
Hello, this is my first post and I'm completely oblivious to what I should do or say, so here goes. My operating system is Windows XP and my computer is a Dell Inspiron that came with Sonic Media for burning dvds, etc. I've used this program for over a year and now it says "Error in scanning image to selected drive, free up 4GB on any drive and retry" I only have one harddrive and it has 33GB free space. So what could be the problem?
When I burn cd/dvds with Windows 7 built in burning software and windows media player all my burns are successful. When I try to use Nero, CD Burner XP or imgburn, it fails. My computer is plenty fast enough(2.8ghz, 4gb ddr2, 250gb sata hd) and I tried reinstalling windows 7 without nero or deamon tools and tested with CD Burner XP, it still failed. I am using Sony blank CD's and also tried a few other name brand. I am burning at the lowest speeds. I purchased a brand new dvd burner and the firmware is up to date. The error I am getting is "Could not write to Disc". It fails randomly anywhere from 3%-30%. Any ideas? Again, windows 7 native burning works fine but other software does not. Same pc, same blanks, same burner, same hardware just different software. Any Ideas at all?

Hi I m trying to burn a DVD to backup some files e g docs photos music but am having trouble I use a Compaq Evo N v laptop that has a built-in DVD ROM drive I ve tried the Trouble DVDs burning following putting a blank DVD in the drive then going to Windows Explorer Selecting the files to copy and then pasting them on to the DVD drive d This then created temporary files and by right-clicking my mouse I got the option to write the files to CD This gave me the error saying that there is no disk in the drive So I installed a copy of Nero and tried using their file backup Trouble burning DVDs wizard However when trying to select the DVD drive it said I needed to select a valid target So I thought it might be because I was using DVDs so I put a CD-R in the drive The drive read the CD and automatically opened up a Windows Explorer box showing me that there was already a file on the CD There was still plenty of space left on the CD however so I went through the Nero wizard again but got the same message about having to select a valid target I m now at my wits end and don t know what to try next Is it just me being dumb or could it possibly be a faulty disk drive I wonder whether it might be the latter as I ve been using the drive to copy my music CDs onto my MP player and the drive doesn t always recognise the music CD Any advice on what I should do would be greatly appreciated Many thanks nbsp

Make sure that in the drop down box for recorders your DVD Burner is showing and not "image recorder."
So I ve been researching this for a while now and I just can t succeed in burning a DVD that ll work on most DVD players I just found a program called DVD Flick that converts it into VOB files which I think might Burning DVDs universal be the right format for what I m looking for I tried it a few days ago I accidentally converted the movie without burning so I dragged and dropped it onto the DVD I tried and played it and no success I m going to try and going straight from convert to burn since it has the option I just don t want to be waisting to many DVDs Am I on the right track or does someone else have a program they prefer I have AVS Video Converter which I ve been using for my iTouch and PSP and Burning universal DVDs see that also has a DVD converter option which I ve yet to try Thanks nbsp
If you dragged and dropped, you made a UDF format DVD. If you see the option in DVDFlick to burn, go directly to that instead of burning the files separately by another method and that will work fine. You can use another burner, but make it the standard ISO format if you do.
When i burn a dvd in nero, it just doesnt seem right. the read buffer stays at 100% but the write buffer goes up and down constantly. to 99% then 27% then back to 83% and random numbers like that.. I have 8x TDK dvd+r and when i burnt at 8x i got pretty much everything was a dud (a coaster) and last night i burnt at 4x and it took a lot longer than nero predicted and it was fine... but when i burnt 4x i actually saved it to an image then burnt the image onto the disc with nero because i was sick of wasting dvd's so i tried a new method. I was just worrying about the write buffer mainly. i think that is affecting burn time and performance. my specs:

and playing videogames Hi first post here and apologize in advance because it s gonna be very long Some months ago I changed my old case W power supply with a new one W three fans temperature sensors etc From that moment on sometimes when I try burning DVDs DVDs rebooting when burning PC escpecially at high speeds x x or playing videogames which depend a lot on the GPU such as Sims or The Movies my PC reboots I managed to solve the videogame problem unchecking the quot Automatically restart quot box But the problem still remains when I try and burn dvds not cds weirdly and not always just when the computer feels like it Sometimes I burn three dvds in a row and everything goes ok PC rebooting when burning DVDs sometimes the PC restarts as soon as I instert a dvd No blue screen of death no information on the event viewer according to windows everything is just fine Let me tell what I did with no success of course - changed IDE cables - changed DVD burner - changed RAM - tested the power supply I didn t do it myself but a quot professional quot and he said it was ok I still have doubts though - changed IDE controller which doesn t seem to recognize my DVD burners btw - changed DVD blank media - changed OS from XPpro to Linux The only thing that made things work for a while was inverting the IDE channels usually I have the HDDs on primary and the DVDs on secondary For a few days it worked until yesterday when I was burning a DVD the system freezed and after a reset the BIOS had a really hard time recognizing the sec IDE At first I thought my Hdd was broken so I inverted the channels again Result the HDDs work but I still have problems burning DVDs So if you have ideas or suggestions feel free to post them Thanks nbsp
hi everyone having trouble with some dvds that wont analyze 100% therfore i cannot burn.tried dvd shrink, dvdfab5, clone and express burn. do i need a different program for these specific dvds. thanks tanyapm
if you're trying to make backups of movies then use ripit4me with dvd shrink and dvddcrypter
bear in mind not all dvds can be hacked, but I have not found one yet that ripit4me cannot break. Of course this is only for legitimate back up purposes. Anything else would be illegal.
Hey all Looking for suggestions This one s a challenge that I doubt anyone can resolve One harware change I just reinstalled XP Pro No glitches on installation The hardware change was a New Gig Hdd and it is Slave to my primary HDD the DVD drive used to be master by itself on the secondary IDE channel now it has my CD burner as a slave I ve run Windows Memory test for hours and BSOD DVDs Burning when memtest for hours All good RAM CAS I ve check the HDDs with the drive s utilities all good All other functions work perfectly But now when trying to burn DVDs with ANY software I get BSODs and make coasters Sometimes I can burn th of the DVD sometimes it doesn t get through the lead-in PAGE FAULT BSOD when Burning DVDs IN NONPAGED AREA and IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL are the errors Sometimes there s a warning that the system is about to BSOD as the servie driver service SVCHOST DLL will crash just before a BSOD The box has onboard audio NICs a GeForce video card and an additional PCI USB controller These were present before the re-install of XP And I was runnign SP before the reinstall and am again now I have shut off the quot Enable CD Recording on this drive quot option for both drives in the Drive Properties window I ve reset the BIOS PCI configuration data so it could re-organize the IRQs associated with the PCI cards I ve moved cards around in different slots at random because PCI slots seem to couple IRQs with neighbors I ve upgraded the firmware on EVERY device component I could find and I ve clocked the RAM down as slow and clocked it up as fast as it goes All that s left is messing with shuffeling drives around on the master slave primary secondary I have removed the new HDD already but not put the IDE devices back in the old config That will be next Does anyone have a CLUE as to what might be going on I ve made WAY TOO MANY coasters out of x DVDs to continue on my own CDs burn just fine still DVDs used to burn just fine with this drive This is my last joust with Windows XP Pro If I cannot resolve this I m moving to a REAL OS Debian Linux - Thanks in advance nbsp
What type of usb 2.0 controller?
This may be a suspect. I had one so I could run

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and ...
Seems to me it was an Adaptec aspi package that caused my errors.
d/load and install the latest aspi from Here
It may not matter if you have any adaptec products or not.

My PC switches itself off while burning DVDs. It used to work a few weeks ago but now it just dies and I have to power it back on. I've made no changes at all to my hardware config or operating system.
I don't think its' overheating as the PC can run for days without any issues.
Are you sure that it is not going to sleep or into hibernation?
I have a cd/dvd player and a cd/dvd burner that I use to make copies. I have room in the case to add 3 more burners. I would like to burn 4 copies at a time. Will this work? If so, how? I use Win 7/64.

Several burning apps can perform that function. I've done it in the past using Alcohol 120. However, the burn speed is greatly reduced. In my instance, it was slightly faster to burn two discs at once that it was to simply burn one at a time.
I am using Nero to burn my dvds. When I copy a dvd, it only takes about 5 minutes to make a backup of one of my dvd movies onto a 4GB blank dvd. Yet, when I use Nero to turn a bunch of AVI into a dvd (not just a data dvd but a movie dvd), it takes about 2 hours to burn that 4GB DVD.
Can somebody explain to me why this is? Is there a way i can get this done alot faster?
The extra time witht he AVI fiels is probably due to Nero converting the AVI files to burnt hem.

I've got an HP laptop w/ Vista on it. I tried to burn some DVDs and here's what happens every time:
1) Insert DVD, auto loads in HP Quickplay, cancel out.
2) File Explorer > Computer: Select DVD Drive and click "Burn to disc"
3) Window pops up: "There are no files to burn"
4) File Exlpore DVD, select all, then click "burn to disc" > same window pops up.
then I open WMP, go to the burn screen and try to drag the files to the drag and drop section but nothing moves. I've tried some other things but everytime it always ends with the window popping up saying "There are no files to burn." HELP! I just want to use my DVD Burner...
Windows Media Player can't burn DVDs. You should be able to burn them through Windows Explorer. Are you sure the laptop has a DVD burner and not just a CD burner?
I have an external dvd burner that is giving me lots of problems when I'm trying to burn dvds. It is plugged into its own outlet so it is recieving adequate power, it's plugged into the main usb port, and it is set up correctly (as far as I know). It's a 16x burn but it wont ever burn a perfect dvd at speeds any faster than 1x when it decides that it wants to. I've wasted 2/3 of the blank dvds that I've bought so ANY suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
I searched and couldn't find any updates for anything, but I also ran the nero cd-dvd speed tool and found that it ran along a normal path but it had large spikes in it about every 1/10 of the cycle. I'm not sure what I can do to correct that, if anything.
This will point you to Nero CD-DVD Speed Tool download. Documentation link there too.

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I'm trying to burn some video files to DVD using ConvertXToDVD, however the videos are 1600x1200 resolution and when I view the DVD it misses out the edges of the video. As if it's zoomed in a bit. Is there any way to burn these files so the whole video will be viewable?

I have had a laptop for 6 months, with a DVDRW, has been working fine until last week. When you look at My Computer is shows the drive as a DVD-RW, as soon as you put in a blank DVD to burn an image, the icon on My Computer changes to a CD-ROM and does not allow me to burn a movie.
I have tried different media no success
Tried deleting the driver and getting XP to pick it up no success.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Is it possible to burn a DVD from video stored on my hard drive without using a program such as windows moviemaker ?? Thanks !!
Yes, but not if you want to play the DVD. You can burn any file to DVD, but most video files need to be encoded or converted to the right format before you can burn a DVD that will play.
Hey, i'm having problems when it comes to burning dvds, usually it takes 20 minutes to read them only about 10 to write them but lately my DVD drive has only been reading at 2x, taking about 1 hour and 6 minutes to copy them, i have tried going into the RegEdit and i changed some stuff in there and it worked temporarily. Any idea as to why this is happening? Help would be appreciated.
Hi Gbizkit and welcome to TSF !
At what speed does your burner read regular DVD's (DVD you bought) ? Are you still using the same media brand as before ? Can you read the DVD's you burned at the normal speed on another computer ?
What's your burner brand and model ? If you don't know you can find out in the device manager (start => run => devmgmt.msc) under DVD/CD-rom drives. Check on the burner's manufacturer website whether the media you're using are fully compatible with your burner.
Use kprobe to test the quality of the burning. Ideally PIF should be under 5 and PI under 50. If it's more than ten times that then you should seriously consider writing at a slower speed to ensure that you'll still be able to read those DVD's in 3 or 4 years.
What settings did you change in the registry ?
Hi i have tried burning a dvd with winrar and and imgburn today but when i try and play the dvd it says bad disc... can someone please help me solve this problem???

What is the best software for burning DVDs in XP? I can burn to CD on an external CD/DVD burner drive I have, but apparently XP does not support burning to DVD, and there is no driver for my external that enables the feature of the drive. I know it's possible, because of all the machines that came with an internal DVD burner that had XP on them. The only difference between those drives and mine must be the driver software. Mine has internal drivers that use the OS functions only. I did check for updated drivers with the manufacturer, but there weren't any that addressed this issue.
I am sure somebody else has had this problem over the years. What should I do? The free burner utilities available do not enable this feature for my drive. Would software like Nero make it possible for me to burn to DVD?
try that one please
i burned a dvd and the dvd stops playing and then I used a software to check the dvd and it said a medium error then a read error
Bad or unsupported disc.
Try again using a different disc. Also consider using quality media. Read more here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm
Any comment on this site's claim that you can "burn DVD's to CDs ... entire DVD movie without any loss of DVD quality":
Has anyone actually tried it?
I have an internal CD-RW, and wanted a DVD burner. I bought an external LG GSA-E40N/L. Works great.
When I get a new PC, a DVD burner will be included. Thus, I will have 2 DVD burners. Or should I ask for no DVD burner on a new PC? A DVD-ROM or a CD-RW instead?
My question is this: I want to have 2 DVDs of copies of photos, work, etc. Is it ok to burn to an internal CD-R/DVD and an external DVD simultaneously? I want to save time, and burning at a slow speed such as 16x would take too long if burning one at a time. Besides, what's the point of having 2 DVD burners then?
With the full version of Nero there is an option to burn to multiple burners, but I am not certain it will work with an external, I don't know why it wouldn't, I am just not sure if it will.
When I try to burn a DVD in Vista, usually around the end when it is 'finishing' the DVD I get a BSOD and the DVD is ruined. I'm using this Toshiba program that came with my computer for burning DVDs. Another thing; I usually get a BSOD whenever I insert any CD or DVD too.

I have a Canon Vixia HFS100 Camcorder (with SD Card). I was able to transfer the videos from my SD card to my Lenovo Laptop with Windows 8. It does have a DVD/CD tray for burning discs. The problem is that I can't figure out how to burn DVDs of my videos. I have a Roxio Creator program from my previous computer that I loaded onto my Lenovo but I still cannot figure out how to transfer my uploaded camcorder videos. I have no problem burning CD's from my ITunes library.
Does Windows xp contain the Question in XP DVDs about Burning logic for burning DVDs or is this logic only available through DVD hardware drivers I have an HP y CD DVD R W pretty sure Question about Burning DVDs in XP it s also and until now I ve always been satisfied burning to CD However I have known for some time that the burn to DVD feature was unavailable to me I know the unit reads DVDs a feature I use fairly frequently for installing software or playing music or movies The unit works like a charm and it has been great so I am fairly certain that it is working fine Also I scoured the internet for threads on the topic this is the second time actually and it always comes down to the same thing At least one of the posts in each of the threads that I have found has mentioned that Windows xp does not support burning to DVD I Question about Burning DVDs in XP asked around years ago and someone told me that service pack solved this problem so I installed it but I still can t write or burn to DVD What I would like is a definitive kernel of fact so that I can proceed with a course of action I really need to be able to burn to DVD so I would like to Question about Burning DVDs in XP know what exactly are the facts with xp and burning DVDs Must my DVD player s driver have the logic for the burn feature to work for DVDs I contacted HP a few years ago First I tried a driver that was written for the B model of the DVD mine is Y It didn t work but it was the only one available so I contacted HP help via e-mail I got a response but it was definitely not what I wanted to hear They just weren t going to listen to my problem Sort of an quot I don t know but I am definitely not getting into this issue with anyone goodbye and have a nice day quot response That left me with the feeling at the time that I was in the middle of a tussle between Microsoft and HP over who should be writing the compatibility code for the various hardware peripherals I almost felt like HP had a grudge with Microsoft over having to include special functions in their drivers when they felt that xp should support their hardware products Personally I guess I can sort of see their point if this is true But hey Microsoft is the giant Seems like when they make up their minds on a issue they just leave the issue in the past no matter how easy it would be for them to issue a fix My suspicion is that all the programming for burning to DVD must be in the DVD driver for me to be able to burn to DVD in xp and that HP missed the boat with their driver It s a real shame to me because the unit is really an excellent one and it was MADE for xp The speed is great and the quality is top I am very confident with my burns to CD Anyway thanks ahead of time I would really like to replace my suspicion with some facts so anyone with the definitive truth about xp and burning DVDs please reply nbsp
This might turn out to be fairly long winded, please bear with me!

A little bit of history:
My DVD-RW drive conked out a couple of months ago, and I had an engineer come and replace it (under extended warranty). I used the drive at least once after that to burn a DVD. I tried burning a DVD a couple of weeks ago (Nero 7) and got an error message, but didn't have time to investigate. Tried burning an audio CD last week (Instant CD+DVD) and got an error message, but was again pushed for time so didn't investigate. I've been working six days a week for the past couple of months and I finally have a weekend off so here I am!
Ah, apparently this message is too long, so I'll post the other half in a reply.
Both DVDs one - ROM and other RW are not operable after burning DVD. Attempting to uninstall and reinstall but DVDs are not recognized and can not play. Below is message under properties for each DVD drive under Properties.
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
What next? Note restore point was not operating so not an option.

Thank You. Sam.
My dvd writer came with Sonic myDVD authoring software. I have been able to write files to a DVD using EasyCDCreator fine but when I try and write a video DVD of files I have got from the web it imports them but when I try to write them it says they are incompatible!
Do you know of any other good DVD Writing software that lets you record video DVDs
and will these DVDs be able to be viewed on a home DVD player
I use DVD+R discs
Does it say why they're incompatible?
Check out the burning software from BurnWorld.com

running win7 x64 I have a sony optiarc ad-7240s sata dvdrw. It is seeming impossible to successfuly burn any DVDs on my setup. I successfuly burnt a dvd iso using imgburn few months back when I had XP installed. In win7 Using the inbuilt burning no matter I burn an iso image or data dvd with master format I get a dvd with visible concentric circles discontinous writing!! last time I also got a 0x80004005 error. to my surprise the dvds read fine but some files work and others no error just drive seeks on forever. I never have installed any 3rd party burner so no chance of conflicts. I tried free iso burner it showed error:aborting message and ruined my dvd. I checked many forums and found even many 3rd party burners are having failures. Please advice a fix or a failsafe 3rd party burner.
It sounds like you're having driver issues. You should check the dvd burner manufacturer's website for the latest Windows 7 drivers. That may fix your problem.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/96622-strange-problem-burning-dvds.html

I use XP media center to record TV programs, but when I try to burn them on to DVDs I get the message "Unsupported file type". Is this because the programs are copyright protected?
However, maybe the file type isn't actually supported. You may need extra software to convert it to a DVD format, depending on which burning program you use.
I use Windows XP Home Edition. I have converted 'avi' file formats into 'vob' format in order to burn dvds for standalone players but a lot of times the audio sound are not in sync with the video. The software I use to convert these files are from boilsoft.com (AVI converter v. 2.28) and I use IfoEdit v. 0.96 for DVD authoring. How do I fix this?
I as well use xp home. When I want to burn dvd for standalone players I use avi/mpeg cd maker, I find it works well. you can check it out here. Its free to try
http://www.avivcdmaker.com/?source=overture I hope this was helpful.
Whenever I try to burn a DVD, it loads up to 99% and then I get a message saying that I have a lot of sector errors (I think it was over 50 this time), and it asks if I'd like to continue anyway. Anyway, I've wasted like 3 DVDs already because of this (they're not rewritable), and I'd like not to waste any more.
For clarification, I've done nothing different here. I ripped the DVD with DVD ripping software (I own the DVD, so this is legal), then burned it with ImgBurn as I normally would. I didn't change any settings or anything.
Does anyone know what might be wrong? And sorry if I'm somewhat unclear. I would type up exactly what the message said verbatim, but in order to do that, I'd have to waste another disc. I hope this is clear enough.
hi there all, small prob i have, on my desktop everytime i burn a dvd video the resultant dvd is unreadable by any of my dvd players( xbox, dvd player, laptop) but if i try reading it on my desktop its fine, its not a batch of bad dvds as i have even copied the same movie to my laptop and burned it fine from there. any help please !!!!
Hey. I'm trying to burn an hour and a half long DVD using Sonic MyDVD Plus. When I play the disc in any player the audio and video aren't synchronized. What I'm trying to burn is a show I recorded using media center(.dvr-ms). I've burnt 30 minute DVD's before with no problem. I was wondering if the problem is my computer, the file type, the discs I'm using, or the program. I'm using Memorex DVD+R Lightscribe discs and Sonic MyDVD Plus. The show is in the default media center file type (.dvr-ms). My computer has 2 gigs of RAM, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Processor 4600+ . Thanks for any help you can provide.
I had a problem when i tried to use Sonic MyDVD when i had it, i could not burn big files.
Try and use DVD santa, it is a great program to burn video files to DVD

CDBurnerXP and InfraRecorder are two good freeware burning programs.
Hello Fairly new to this so probably best if I post my system Solved: no burning longer DVDs spec to get the ball rolling Currently using an Acer Aspire laptop running Windows Vista -bit Intel Core Duo Processor Solved: DVDs no longer burning T GHz MHz FSB MB L cache GB DDR DVD-Super Multi DL Left a few bits out but those pieces of information appear to be the most relevant The issue I am having is in burning movies to DVDs - I used to do it all the time had no issues in the past Simply stick a DVD in the drive open up Windows DVD Maker figured it was a good idea to say which piece of software I was using and hit Burn As I said previously I ve had no issues with this Always worked fine and played perfectly on both stand alone DVD players laptops and an xbox However just recently I can t seem to get them to burn Movie files I ve previously been successful with will no longer burn either so that ruled out the possiblity that just my recent movies we not burning The error message being display when trying to add to be burnt is as followed quot files were successfully added file could not be added The file Directory FileName avi is not valid or is corrupted quot The majority of files are in avi format I also downloaded a converter to convert them to mpeg and mpeg when converted they did not give off the error message when added but would remain on after clicking burn That s pretty much the issue not installed removed any programs recently to knowledge that would change anything Have also tried to include as much detail as possible in hope that someone may have an answer solution Any help would be greatly appreciated Regards Chris nbsp
Last 2 times I burned DVDs (from video files) with my Nero software errors occurred in the background (not in Nero) and it seemed to make the burn take longer. In Event Viewer I think I saw Event ID 17 and 29. I put my cable modem on stand by and turn off as many processes as I can that run in the background to conserve resources. My CPU runs at 100% while transcoding the files to burn. Whole process usually takes 3 to 4 hours. These last 2 times it took over 5 hours. I suspect because other things on my PC were going on in the background. The DVD gets done finally and works fine.
Is it possible to burn DVDs in Safe Mode? Would this be a good idea, so that all the back ground processes are at a bare minimum?
a nice quick safe way of shuting down all the programs running is a program callled Smartclose its free and it closes all programs and prossess excpt for the ones xp needs to live on.
also when your finnished you can restart any thing it shut down just as easaly. though i find it better to just restart my pc.
theres no ads or spyware or anything to worry about. i love this program and use it when i run defrag or play a game
heres what that site says
SmartClose is a handy tool that allows you to close all currently running programs - a task often required during software installations to minimize conflicts (or during defrag operations). This can be a tedious task when performed manually, and usually requires a restart to get all your programs back up and running. With SmartClose however, the entire process is simplified and automatic, as it stores the running program information is a system snapshot and not only closes all applications for you, but also restarts/restores them later. The program can be customized in various aspects, and a quick wizard also allows you to exclude programs from being closed or restored. It will automatically skip applications that are required for the Windows system to run. In addition, it supports services, as well as Explorer and Internet Explorer windows and saves their current location, so they can be restored properly.Click to expand...
Hello all you Computer Gurus,
I recently formatted my HD and re-installed Win XP, and I installed all my programs, etc., including the XP Codec Pack. Now, whenever I try to transcode/burn downloaded .avi videos to DVD, it won't work.
For example, when I try to use "TMPGEnc DVD Author," it wouldn't even open the video, stating that it could only access the audio portion of the video, but not the video portion. And, when I try to use "Nero Vision 4," (part of Nero 7 Ultra), it would open the video (I could even play the video in the program usind the DVD preview feature); however, when it begins to transcode the video, the program immediately shuts down.
Keep in mind, before I formatted my HDD, everything worked fine with both programs when it came to transcoding video. Now I'm left just scratching my head!
Thanx, I look forward to some valueable input on this!
Have you tried more than one .AVI file? are all of your device drivers properly installed after the new installation of XP? If so try updating your video card driver from the manufacturers website and reboot computer.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/problems-transcoding-and-burning-dvds-340729.html
I am trying to burn several short videos on a dvd. When I convert them from AVI with WinAVI, they turn into generic VOB files. Nero Burning Rom will only let me burn one VOB file onto a dvd at a time. When I try to rename the subsequent files, Nero will not accept them onto the files-to-be-burnt list. I want one DVD of all my short video films.
Also, Nero will not burn MPG, MPEG, WMV, or MPE files so my Cucusoft converter is of no use.
Is there better software I should buy? Or do I need to download specific plugins or codecs?
I am a complete novice here. Thanks!
