Preferred Solution: how can i enable virtual scroll on my laptop touchpad

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello and Welcome to TSG moeenali.

You will need to download the drivers for the touch pad. As well as other drivers such as chipset drivers.

Drivers for Win 7 32 bit

Drivers for Win 7 64 bit

Here's a link on Using and Configuring the TouchPad in Windows 7

Hi!
I got my Precision M4800 and I'm really about it.
But! I dislike the touchpad for one reason : No option to enable one-finger scroll. I'm kinda "old school" with touchpad and I don't like using my the two-fingers scroll and all the "fancy " features and the touchpad software don't have this specific feature.I tried the old driver version (7.0), but it's not compatible with Windows 8.1.
I can see a lot of values in the regedit ( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alps and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alps ) but I don't know which one it can be,
Do you know if a generic ALPS drivers exist? Do you have a solution for this issue?
Thanks!

A:Enable one-finger scroll on Precision M4800 (ALPS touchpad)

Run the DellTPad.exe file in C:\Program Files\DellTPad.  This will give you an older interface which includes the one-finger scroll.

This isn't really hugely problematic but its starting to become really annoying whenever i go into the control panel to look at the mouse settings it says:
Unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device driver

i have tried reinstalling the driver but nothing happened

any help would be greatly appreciated

oh also the windows on my laptop keep going over the taskbar that is unrelated but that's also irritating and i don't know how to fix it and its making the task bar pointless because i have to minimise everything to find it.

thanks

A:The touchpad on my laptop wont scroll

For the Taskbar: right click the Start button (lower left corner) and click properties, click the Taskbar tab, and make sure the "autohide" checkbox is not selected.

For the scrolling problem: did you reboot after uninstalling the driver, and do the reinstall after booting?

for some reason randomly a message will pop up that the symantics touchpad has shut down. this has happened three times in the past hour, but never before. i downloaded the driver from the dell site and when i installed it and restarted my computer it worked fine but about an hour later it happened again. and again.

dell support has been no help at all, cant even contact tech support because my warranty ran out.

i have a dell vostro 1500, XP, two years old,

anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
thanks

Can you quote the exact text of the message.
Also can you have a look at the event logs and see if there is something there that gives a clue.

By the way, it is Synaptics not Symantics

Upon installing Norton 360 v4.0 on my Sony VIO vgn-Z520N using Vista Business I realized that the touchpad functions were no longer available, in fact they were missing from the control panel options for my mouse. I contacted Symantech support and through their efforts they only managed to delete most of my passwords stored in the 360 login files (they did an uninstall then re-installed 360).

I contacted Sony who provided a link to the mouse driver. I installed the driver but no touchpad functions are to be found.

Norton 360 v4.0 has a bug that deletes the touchpad functions and they do not know how to fix it...Anyone got ideas on how a 'non-tech savvy' user can fix this problem?

A:Norton 360 v4.0 Laptop Touchpad Scroll Disabled

Hi Tom_C1,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The issue you are having is due to a problem with the drivers for your trackpad. In the thread on the Norton Community Forums it is suggested that you acquire the correct drivers and to then install the new drivers. There may be separate drivers for the trackpad functionality besides the normal mouse drivers and I would suggest that you install the latest version of those drivers.

If by chance you have not already done so, please manually run LiveUpdate in Norton 360 and complete a "Comprehensive System Scan" to make sure there are no infections present. There is the possibility that there are infections on your machine which may have corrupted the drivers.

Thanks,
Mike

Can somebody please help me? This is driving me nuts.

For about a week maybe more, I cannot get the laptop screen to scroll when I use my touchpad.

I have Windows 8, 32bit operating system. I use Google Chrome browser, and my computer had/has Synaptics Device Driver on it. I went into the control panel Mouse section and I get this pop up message (attached). I am not sure if I can uninstall this because I don't know if my mouse won't work at all? I tried installing the driver again, but I don't know if that did anything?

I don't really know anything about this and would be grateful if somebody would help.

A:g50-70 touchpad/scroll?

hi fangovk,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you have an ELAN Touchpad, it's likely that the feature is disabled in the registry. Try to check this article on how to enable these hidden features then reboot the machine and observe if you now have an Edge Scroll (a.k.a. One Finger Scroll) option.

Note:
The procedure requires you to merge a registry file to enable all the ELAN features. Ensure that you create a System Restore point or a registry backup just in case you need to revert back the changes.

I just purchased a new xps 15 and, unlike my family's touchpads and my old xps's touchpad, this one does not have side scrollbar. If it does, I am completely dumbfounded on how to activate it. I love the option of scrolling on the right side of my touchpad and I would enjoy having it on this computer.

Please help and thanks

A:How do i get scroll on my touchpad for my xps 15

I had the same problem until about 5 minutes ago. Go to control panel -->Switch to small icons --> Click "mouse" (far right column for me) --> Click "Device Settings" tab on the top right --> Click "settings" (on the middle right hand side) --> Double click "Scrolling" (second on list below "overview") --> Click "One-finger" scrolling--> Check the "enable vertical scrolling"  and "enable horizontal scrolling"
- For some reason Dell set the default to two finger scrolling so if you can't find the above menu try placing your index and middle finger about half and in apart in the middle of the trackpad and pull down like you normally do to scroll with one finger
                         --Hope that helps :)

Are there trackpad drivers for Windows 8? Class drivers?

My Spectre is only 1 month old and my TouchPad scroll feature isn't working. I've gone to Settings-Add. mouse options- ClickPad Settings. Two-Finger Scrolling is selected. I've unselected and saved. Reselected, saved and still not working. I've then selected the vertical and horizontal scrolling. This isn't working either. The TouchPad is working for other options, rotating, pinch zoom, etc. are, however, working. The only thing not working are either scrolling options. This just recently happened over night...

I have the same problem with the touchpad/trackpad. Chrome, IE, and Edge two finger scroll acceptably.   Windows (start menu and settings) and metro apps will work after a reboot until you click on something and then scrolling breaks completely (or behaves very erratically in these applications). I've tried reinstalling the touchpad drivers (trying to uninstall fails for me) and creating the "UseScrollCursor" registry key that some people have reported, but I haven't had any success. I'm glad I purchased with a 15 day return policy. I will wait a few days to see if a fix comes out, but I can't live with this type of bug.

Hi all,After I upgraded to Windows 10, my touchpad started working strangely and annoying. Firsly, when I scroll with two fingers, then remove one finger, but keep moving another, scrolling continues for a second and only after that my mouse starts to move. And secondly, after I put 3 fingers on touchpad, then remove 2 and start moving the one that was left, mouse won't move. The issue is probably somehow connected with drivers for touchpad. If somebody had the same problem, or knows at least what is causing it, please comment, I'd really appreciate!

I have a HP G6 Notebook, OS: Windows 7

My touch pad is functional as I can move the mouse, right and left click work just fine. However neither the two finger scroll nor single finger scroll work when I turn on my computer. I have to manually go to Control Panel, Hardware, Mouse and just open the Synaptic program and then it works. All my preferred settings are still checked and saved since the beginning of time and the preferred mouse selected, is the touch pad.

The touch pad retains all of it's scrolling capabilities until I turn off then turn my computer on again. I thought I could resolve some of the issue if I pinned Synaptics to my bottom tool bar, but Synaptics does not show when I turn on my computer either.

Any thoughts?

hi,

I have a Sony Vaio laptop and recently the scroll on the touchpad stopped working. This is very irritating, because now i actually have to drag the bar to scroll through pages instead of using the scroll. I have gone to the option screen and still nothing. Please help.

A:Solved: scroll touchpad not working

Maybe the touch pad drivers are the problem.
Try re-installing the touch pad drivers.

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my Acer Aspire 7750G-6645 Notebook computer.  Everything seems to work fine except that the touchpad scrolling doesn't work. The touchpad for this notebook isn't 2 finger it's a up & down band on the rightside of the touchpad that you gently slide your finger over it up or down to scroll.  If it's a Driver issue which driver do I needto install because I don't see a Windows 10 driver for the 7750G LAPTOP I have. How do I go about fixing the scroll issue? I'm pretty much just a novice when it comes to dealing with computers so please to sure to type it out step by step. Thx If you need any other of my computer specs let me know.

I updated my computer about 1/2 weeks ago and the 2 touch scroll feature doesn't work. I went to advanced touchpad settings to see if I could fix it there but the results were that it is on. I went to check if maybe I did it wrong and sure enough it still
didn't work at all. Can you please either give me a step by step guide on fixing this or a link to a bit of software that fixes this?
And yes the touchpad is up to date, the system won't even let me click it.

Enabled reverse scrolling for the touchpad in the Synaptics setting, but it only works on some apps. Seems mainly to work on 3rd party applications (ex. Chrome), whereas most system windows and similar still scroll unreversed. Highly annoying when your scroll constantly goes different directions Can't find any other setting to adjust this. Seems like the Synaptics driver took over the more detailed settings you usually see in Windows 10. But didn't fully take over.

Hello,

when I open PDF file in Fx (open in new tab), I can scroll only that PDF file, however if I change focus to other tabs it doesn't work (external mouse is not affected, only touchpad).

Closing PDF tab restores scrolling ability.

Any idea how to resolve this?

Hi, a few months ago I called dell to have something on my computer fixed (I don't remember what it actually was). The dell rep remotely took over the computer and cleared out a bunch of the programs from startup in various locations. Since then I have not been able to use the scroll and multi-touch features on my mousepad. I can't find where to turn this back on and re-installing the driver has not helped.

I would appreciate any help you guys can give.

Hello, I can't get the touchpad scrolling to work with Windows. I tried installing/reinstalling and updating the driver but nothing worked. I tried installing Ubuntu on the laptop, and there I got multitouch scrolling even without drivers, so I don't really think the touchpad can't support scrolling.I'm running latest Windows 10 with latest drivers from Lenovo support page. Why is this problem? Is it the Windows or the official drivers for Windows are bugged?(It won't work with 7/8.1 either, tried them all)

Hey there,

i recently got a harddrive replacment for my Qosmio f60 laptop and windows had to be reloaded.
When my laptop was previously working i could two-finger scroll on pages and such,
Now i cant, and i cannot find a setting for it anywhere.

ive downloaded a driver called 'scrybe' which allows me to do this,
but i would much prefer not running an extra processor and just using the laptops default function.

Can anyone explain why my laptop previously let me do this and now cant? and how i could fix it?

thanks heaps!

Maybe the Synaptics touchpad driver is not installed?
The Synaptics driver provides additional touchpad features.
Therefore I recommend installing this driver.

The settings can be found in control panel -> mouse -> Advanced tab -> advanced settings

HOW TO RESOLVE TOUCHPAD SETTING RESET ISSUES Download version 18 of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver and Software.Navigate HP's Software and Driver Downloads site (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html) to find the latest approved driver for your model.  Filter by version, selecting Microsoft Windows 8.1 on the dropdown menu.  Look for the download in the "Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices" category.  If a Synaptics driver with a version number starting in 18 is listed, download it.If a Synaptics driver with a version number starting in 18 is NOT listed, download the driver directly from HP (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp68001-68500/sp68198.exe).Download the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/wushowhide.diagcab).Change the Windows Update Services setting from Automatic (Delayed Start) to Manual. In the Control Panel, select Administrative Tools and open Services.Scroll down to Windows Update and double-click it to bring up its properties.Click Stop to stop the service from running.Change the Startup Type to Manual and click OK.Uninstall version 19 of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver. In the Control Panel, select Device Manager.Click the "+" next to "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" to expand that category.Double-click on the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad to bring up its properties.Navigate to the Driver tab and click Uninstall.Check the box to delete the driver software for this device, then click OK to uninstall.Uninstall version 19 of the Synaptics TouchPad Software (HP Control Zone). In the Control Panel, select Programs and Features.Scroll down to HP Control Zone (published by Synaptics Incorporated) and uninstall it.Restart your computer.Install version 18 of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver and Software.Run the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package and hide updates to the Synaptics TouchPad Driver.  (Doing so will block your system from automatically reinstalling or showing updates for version 19 of the driver.)Change the Windows Update Services setting from Manual back to Automatic (Delayed Start).Restart your computer again.Rejoice!  Your TouchPad settings will finally save across sessions again.

Enter the control panel and look for the touchpad control panel. In my HP Omen 15 product loan it was a Synaptics application. I found that upgrading to Windows 10 appeared to have removed the tick mark to the right of the scrolling feature. It was working before I upgraded. I put the tick back in and scrolling started working again.

I was recently deleting items I didn't want running from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Since I done this, Scroll on my Synaptics Touchpad does not work on startup unless I go into control panel, click mouse and then it just comes alive. I know it's not the end of the world but its annoying doing this every time I turn my laptop on.
On researching this problem iv'e since discovered msconfig and now realise this is a much easier and less destructive way to turn things off that I don't want running. On this point, there is nothing in msconfig startup for Synaptics for me to enable/disable.
Please help. Iv'e seen a thread on here very similar to this from 2 years ago but after 5 pages it was never solved.
Please someone help.
Thanks
Gary

One day I realized I had lost pinch and scroll functions on my touch pad. Don't know why.
So I tried to install a Synaptics touch pad Driver. This provided the missing functions but the Cursor got delayed and the sensitivity of the touch pad was restricted to a certain spot. Therefore I de-installed the Synaptic Driver again.
The sensitivity issued got cured but I still had no pinch and scroll function on the touch pad.
Therefore I went to the Toshiba download site and learned that the ALPS Driver was the original Driver.
I tried to install this Driver (as requested for 64 bits).
The installation seemed to pass smoothly. After re-starting there is still no pinch and scroll functionality and nowhere the driver is found neither in the programs list nor added to the "mouse" Screen in the System functions Folder.

How can I get that pinch, zoom and scroll functions back to my touch pad?

A:Satellite L50-B - lost touchpad pinch and scroll functions

This sounds like program interference, you will need to perform a clean boot and disable firewall and antivirus and then try and install the driver. Here is a description on how to perform a clean boot, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

Dell Studio 1535

I've successfully installed Windows 7 on a clients laptop, the thing is the touchpad won't scroll anymore after having installed W7.

I have all the drivers and everything, even the driver for the touchpad.

I just can't figure out to set/configure the touchpad to scroll again.

Note: The touchpad itself does work, but it just won't scroll.

Any help is appreciated.

Do you have x86 or x64 Windows 7? You say you have the drivers, confirm that it is these (pick for your correct version)

Hi all I have a Lenovo Yoga Pro laptop running Windows zooming Chrome causes random and jumping - scroll Touchpad and I use Chrome currently on Beta and Canary builds Because the x resolution is mostly Chrome - Touchpad causes random zooming and scroll jumping problematic in Windows I have it set to x In Chrome I use the touchpad to two-finger scroll up and and webpages This works except every time I put two fingers to the touchpad I see a faint animation of a square zooming in and then randomly every so often pages zoom way in in such a way that changing zoom levels with CTRL and CTRL - doesn't change it The ONLY way I have found to zoom back out is to actually do a pinch gesture on the touchscreen I know you can disable pinchzoom in Chrome but the problem with that is that I WANT that to work when I use the touchscreen I have disabled pinch gestures on the touchpad itself This is driving me nuts and I can't figure out what I am doing on the touchpad to cause the zooming It also randomly scrolls ALL the way down a page This might help I've asked this in Chrome support but am not getting anything useful there

A:Chrome - Touchpad causes random zooming and scroll jumping

Does the issue exist when using IE ?

Recommend you contact Lenovo customer support or look thru user's guide if available. May have to do with your preferred resolution setting. Another thought is to download the basic Chrome instead of Beta and Canary.

For no reason at all. (as far as i can recall). I was just doing random stuff on pc (like every other time), surfing the web, while I just recognized my scroll on touchpad isn't working. I tried rebooting pc, turning touchpad on and off, but didn't hepled.

I have Satellite R850 2R notebook with win7 on it.

A:Satellite R850 - scroll on touchpad stopped working

Try to check if Windows update has installed something today and roll back OS to earlier time (two days back if possible) using system restore tool.

I don?t know if this will help but you can try it. Several times I saw that synaptics driver update is offered by option windows updates.

Not sure if this is due to my hardware or some setting in Windows 7. I have Win 7 Pro x64 on a Sony Vaio ZPCZ11. Using the MS Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 7000. In the file view of Windows File Explorer, if I click in the space and wheel scroll, everything works fine and the scrolling is smooth. But when I click in the Navigation Pane (Folder List) and try the same thing, it wants to scroll an entire page at a time. I cannot get the smooth mouse scrolling to work in this Pane! Any ideas how to fix this?

A:Cannot enable smooth mouse scroll in Windows Explorer Navigation Pane

Well, if anyone cares, it appears that my scroll rate was set too high...even though it works well in certain apps and areas, it just goes too far in Windows Explorer. Set to a lower rate, it scrolls in the Nav Pane normally.

I just loaded the new windows 10 operating system on my Pro Book 6440b and I am having a problem with the Synaptics Touchpad driver. Most of the functions work properly with the touch pad but there is one issue that I cannot resolve with the Window 7 driver for the touchpad. The finger scroll function will not work in any of the newly formatted Windows 10 OS windows. I wonder if their has been a patch made for this driver problem or if it is an ongoing issue. I know the mouse pad works fine all functions since I reloaded all of the drivers after a complete system restore in the windows 7 OS.?????

I have installed the Elan touchpad driver I can't get it to scroll correctly.

In addition an Elan touchpad .exe run box comes up at every boot which does nothing when Run. I finally browsed to it in the Programs folder and deleted that .exe file so it wouldn't pop up at every start.

It shows installed in the Device Manager, however doesn't have the functions I had in the Samsung factory install. This and the sound driver don't seem to work right when installed, as though there is more software needed that isn't on the Downloads page at Support for NP-RF511.

Hi I experience differences in the scrolling speed across software programs e.g. windows pathfinder as compared to Spotify or Stata in Windows 10. In fact, it goes anoyingly fast when working with .do-files in Stata or when I scroll my songs in Spotify. I have to use the arrow keys or PgUp/PgDn which requires a click on the right window to be activated. So, could you please help to solve this issue? Indeed, I find that changing the two-finger scrolling on the touchpad trough Elan Smart-Pad works in google chrome but just not very well in say Spotify, hence this new thread. BestJohan

Hi the Alps touchpad driver for W that is currently supplied by Toshiba does not have an option to adjust the vertical scroll speed of the two finger gesture With the default speed even leaning the fingers downwards without moving them results in a scroll that is equivalent of PAGE with Updated Driver scroll Satellite speed? - adjustable Touchpad Z30 DOWN e g way to fast The version I use is the latest one from Satellite Z30 - Updated Touchpad Driver with adjustable scroll speed? the website tpdrv- zip There is a registry entry in HKEY CURRENT USER Software Alps Apoint that make the situation a bit more bearable set ScrollLines to but there is no way to adjust if further it in the settings or the registry A newer Alps Driver from another company has this option and scrolling works like it should on the lowest speed but it does not support -finger rightclick Why does toshiba use an outdated driver that is missing this critical function Is there a new driver available Did anyone find a fix for this

A:Satellite Z30 - Updated Touchpad Driver with adjustable scroll speed?

Hi

From my knowledge notebook manufacturers modify and adjust the own drivers.
The driver versions are always different and are not always comparable with driver versions released by other notebook manufacutrers.

As you said above:
the Alps driver released by Toshiba does not support the scroll speed but at the other hand it supports the 2-finger right click.
The other driver supports the scroll speed option but doesn?t support the finger right click.

Well it would nice to have an driver which would support all the mentioned options.
So I think we can just wait and hope that the next releases will support some more nice-to-have features?

A:Portege Z30 / Replicator Audio driver Issues + Touchpad scroll

I think the user manual contain some parts which refers to different Toshiba models like Portege Z30-A /Z30t-A / Satellite Z30-A /Z30t-A

Some models are equipped with NFC function but cannot say for sure which models support this feature exactly.
Fact is that in many cases the additional M.2 connector is free for such additional modules.

Regarding UEFI mode: check if BIOS update would add it. Some notebooks supported such function after the BIOS update.

Hi,
So, I've recently installed Windows 10 on my device. All went smoothly and it runs pretty well, except for one minor, yet very annoying issue: two finger scrolling doesn't work in Windows Explorer. It works perfectly fine in other applications such as Chrome or Edge. It just doesn't work in Explorer (not IE, Explorer the file manager).
I also have a pointstick in my keyboard, which also scrolls perfectly fine in Explorer. A external mouse also scrolls as you'd expect. It's just the two finger scrolling on the touchpad. I've updated the driver to the newest available on the Dell website, I've tried older versions of the driver... nothing works unfortunately.
Like I said, it's not a major issue, but it sure is annoying.
For the record, it's an Alps touchpad using driver version: 10.1207.101.102
Does anyone have the same issue and/or has found a solution?
Thanks in advance!
