Change Browser Language and Interface from Arabic to English

Q: Change Browser Language and Interface from Arabic to English

Hello. I'm an American living in Saudi Arabia. I just bought a Toshiba ultra book. It is very sleek and nice. But everything shows up in Arabic when I use Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. The default language in the control panel is already in English. The location is USA. The desktop is in English. But browsing is all in Arabic. I don't want it to translate...I want all the browsing to be in English. HELP!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Press the Windows flag key + R and in the Run open field type: intl.cpl (press enter)
Check that the drop down box under “Format: English” is set to “Match Windows Display language (recommended)"

I would be a little leery that something malicious may have been installed on the computer to cause this unwanted change. You may want to update and run any AV and or anti-malware programs you may have installed.

I recently downloaded a software which interface is written in Bulgarian and when I open it all the buttons and menus instead of appearing in Cyrillic are a string or question marks such as ?????? whose count depends on the length of the word in Bulgarian. Does anybody know how to fix that so they appear in Cyrillic? I've tried everything. I installed a Bulgarian language-pack update, I changed the OS language to Bulgarian and nothing. Please help. I've Googled this problem but am getting conflicting views on how to solve this problem. I bought a laptop in Paraguay, with Windows 7 Pro pre-installed. I thought this would be handy and it was cheap as chips so bought it. Little did I know changing the language from Spanish to English would be such a chore. Is there a simple trick I'm missing?

I can get by but it would be so much easier to have it all in English. For instance, I just tried to put my camera's SD card in to the slot and it came up with an error message that I couldn't even read!

I don't have the Windows 7 installation disks...

Thanks in advance.

A:Need to change language from Spanish to English

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Your easiest way round your problem would be a Windows Anytime Upgrade from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate, which would give you access to 34 language packs via Windows Updates.

Obviously, you'll need to choose your region before you make your purchase, but all it involves is buying a new product key, which is then e-mailed to you.

Then it's Start>All Programs>Windows Anytime Upgrade and follow the instructions to enter your new product key.

Wait half-an-hour or so and it's job done.

Does anyone know if this is possible? To be clear I am not talking about display language or input language as there are many posts about this.

Currently my settings are as I want them:

Display language : English
Input language : English (United States) - French
Format : English (United Kingdom)
Location : France

I did a clean install from USB (upgrade from OEM Win 7 Ultimate). My language was reset to French - probably as the original Win 7 machine was bought in France. I have changed the input/display to English but whenever I install software (today GoogleDrive, Dropbox, Lenovo drivers) the language picked up is the system language.

Is it possible to change this?

I have a laptop that came preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Basic Simplified Chinese. I already know that Home Basic can't use MUI's, and I know that there is no English LIP (or so I think).

HOWEVER, if there IS an English LIP, where can I get it? Obviously Microsoft isn't giving me the key. If there isn't an English LIP, is there any other way to get the interface language changed?

If there isn't another solution I guess I will upgrade to Ultimate, and then download the MUI. But will MUI's completely change the default system language?

Sorry for so many questions, but I'm really desperate!

A:Interface Language Change?

You can use Vistalizator to change interface's language. Take a look here Vistalizator - change display language in Vista Home and Business
Give it a try
And not all MUIs change ALL the interface language, something will stiil be in another language, for example i had a Vista in Russian, but not all was translated in Russian, some things (very few) were in English.

which is an LIP.

Then go to control panel, click on regional and language options. Then click on the keyboards and languages tab. On that there should be a list of display languages that you can install or something saying install display language. Choose English and install it. Then choose English on the Display Language menu. I recently bought a Toshiba Laptop in Saudi Arabia. It came pre-installed with an Arabic version of windows 7.

I have managed to change most of the language options to English under the control panel, but the core of windows is still Arabic, I see this with the welcome message in the beginning and some install/uninstall and error messages.

After contacting Microsoft support, they said that I should contact the manufacturer (Toshiba) and ask for a new OS in English.

Can anyone help me?

Kind regards,

As far as I know you have two options:
1/try to order original recovery installation disc on
2/you must install own OS version using original Microsoft installation disc

If you use option 2 you must buy Microsoft disc and pay valid licence for it. All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can download from Toshiba download page

I've just upgraded from IE7/Vista SP1, x86, ITA to IE8.
Everything works fine except one thing: IE8's Live Search accelerator to tranlsate text is in arabic-english as default instead of the expected english-italian. If I change to english-italian settings won't be saved.

If I use InPrivate browsing or disable Protected mode it's ok instead.

This problems has been already reported by other users some months ago with the betas: Microsoft Translator Official Team Blog : IE8 Beta 2 - Translation Accelerator

Did a fresh install of Chrome hoping to clear some spellcheck errors.

When I restarted the new install, my toolbar and "wrench settings" are in Spanish. Browser is in English. Went to "Advanced Settings" and this is set to English. Searches are in English,

But the toolbar shows "Applicaciones" instead of "apps". Instead of "Bookmarks" I see "Otros Marcadores"

Please see attachment screenshot "Toolbar.doc"

FWIW All the Gmail settings are in english.

using Google translate I translated "Zekrom Black is in Kuwait" into Arabic because I am making a picture in photoshop about friend's archeology intern in Kuwait so the title was going to be that in Arabic. but Windows 7 is copying the translated text backwards, even in notepad, it goes right when I hit the left arrow until it hits the word "Zekrom" (Zekrom is at the wrong spot in the pasted text (different than Google)) then Windows 7 goes in the right direction.

how do I get Windows 7 to paste the text properly and go the right direction?

You can still change the keyboard to write in Arabic. Whether or not you can read Arabic, I dunno But the OS isn't available in Arabic per this statement

*Note: If you used the Hindi or Arabic language versions of the Beta, thank you for helping us test those languages. Because the RC is not available in Hindi or Arabic, we encourage you to either install Windows 7 RC in another language or reinstall a prior version of Windows before the Beta expires on August 1, 2009.

Hi kisk:

My gut reaction was 'lol' at that screen shot; I've never actually seen the Arabic language pack in use. This was from a malware infection?? But let's address your problem, shall we?

First, let's start off by going into detail about your 'Regional and Language Options'. Was the regional options set to English? In the 'Language' tab, is the 'Text Services and Input Languages' option set to English as well?

Also, are you able to use a Win XP installation CD to repair Windows? If I'm not mistaken, there is an option to select your default Regional Settings there as well. Post back here with more details! Good luck. =)

1. Deleted the new programs from the change and remove programs.
2. Ran Mcafee - nothing noted
3. continued to get popups
4. deleted directories with same name "tool bars and extensions"
5. continued to get popups
6. downloaded Malwarebytes and found several pups and quarantined  all.
7. rebooted.
8. No longer can i log in, language seems to be Arabic.
9. I tried to refresh but would not work- it made me log in. this is where i noticed that the language was set to ARABIC 2.

A:SP2 installation problem in Home Premium 32bit - Arabic language pack?

Is there anyone out there who can help me? I'm still struggling with the problem, and as Vista has been rather buggy for me lately I've started experimenting with Explorer alternatives. This has helped, amazingly, and quite a bit, but it's still only a stopgap measure. I need SP2, and the many fabled fixes it brings.

Still getting the same "due to a system error" message from my full boot. Should I try Safemode again, or is that just going to give me the same issue about the language pack? Does anyone know a way to get rid of one of those things?

Or should I just be waiting for the multi-language installation of SP2 in the hopes that that will work? Considering that I only have English listed as installed, though, that seems like a sad option. . .

Since upgrading to Windows 8.1 my keyboard is no longer set to English (United Kingdom) - so I keep getting US keyboard settings for various characters like @ when typing ! In Windows 8 I could change the settings easily in Control Panel >Clock, Language, Region. But now when I go to Control Panel> Language it seems that English (United Kingdom) is only available as a download. I tried to download and install the update but although it downloaded OK it was taking so long to install that I cancelled the operation in desperation !

A:English (United Kingdom) language

since upgrading to Windows 8.1 I've had a number of problems, some I've been able to sort.

But I am having trouble getting the English(United Kingdom) version keyboard. In the Language section of the Control Panel it is shown as my preferred setting, but if I roll mouse over it then says it's 'available' to download. Tried that, downloaded OK but wouldn't install ('hung' for over 30 minutes doing nothing before I gave up and cancelled !). Didn't have this problem with Windows 8 (or any previous versions of Windows either). You mentioned nVidia but are you actually asking about the Win8.1 installation? All of the Windows installations I've done from the CD [WinXP and earlier] or DVD [Win7 and later] had a screen early in the install that prompted to choose a language. Apparently Windows includes many languages as it's unknown which country it will be used in and the correct one has to be chosen. I think part of the Win7 DVD requirement was for the Anytime Upgrade feature.

This is a new problem when I type in Spanish. I do not think I had this issue before. When I type words in Spanish such as "mejor" which means better, it is automatically changed to "major" which of course means something entirely different. This happens with many words, another example is "haciendo" (which is a tense of the verb to be); it is changed to "hacienda" which is something like a type of house and so on. Most of the words are underlined in red. I already tried adding the language bar for Spanish, but all that does is change the keyboard as well as the names of the folders from English to Spanish, which is not what I want. I want to write properly in English without going back to check word by word. Can anyone help???Thanks, Ana

A:Language Issues (Spanish/English)

Hi Ana, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The issue you describe is not a Windows issue. It simply means that your word processor is using English spell check. Your examples confirm it; mejor is not English where as major is, and again haciendo is not English but hacienda is, so in both cases the spell check "thinks" you have made a typo and auto-corrects it.

Not knowing which word processor you are using, please consult the manual and / or help files of the word processor to find out how to turn Spanish spell check and dictionary on.

This Microsoft page tells you how to change proof reading language on Word:

If this happens when typing on browser, for instance on web email client composing messages, consult the help files of that browser to find out how to add Spanish spell check and dictionary.

You can add a language by going to control panel

(that's how I added Greek)
then when you are in word you use either alt - shift or ctrl shift to flip between the 2 languages....(there should then be a little icon in your system tray that shows [EN]....for english and in my case when i flip [GR] for greek...

Failing to repair my old Dell, I bought a Lenova laptop with XP Professional here in China. Unfortunately, the only guaranteed method for getting Windows in English is to buy an original CD, which is 1,900 RMB (187 GBP). That's far too expensive for me. However a friend says he may be able to install Windows 7 Ultimate, to which a language packed can be added that allows the language to be English.

But he hasn't tried it before and isn't sure it will work. Does anyone know about this?

Windows 7 costs just as much as WinXP, and you would also need a license key.

A:Symbols showing instead of English language

Try restoring a backup the program might have made before "fixing" your computer.

You should definitely avoid Registry Cleaners, Boosters, Optimizers, TuneUp Utilities... This type of software will do a lot more harm than good. Most members coming here with WEIRD symptoms had their computer messed up by malware and/or registry cleaners. There have been reports from members saying registry cleaners had fixed a specific problem with their computer. Although it might be possible in some cases, legitimate files still in use will be deleted in the process, crippling some programs and Windows applications beyond repair.

Keep in mind that they will always find "errors" to fix, even on a fresh Windows install! In itself, this should be enough to convince non-believers...

Hello Everyone,
As I travel to the north on regular occasions, I bought a Lenovo G585 laptop in Spain, where I live. It had W.7.Home Premium installed in Spanish.
I have now upgraded it with the free installation of W.10.
As with all things downloaded in Spain, there is rarely a choice to obtain the download in English.
After the download I found a way to change the language into English.
That done, the keyboard no longer responded correctly!
I am also not able to use the search facility Cortana as it is unavailable in Spain.
Is there any way that I can have the W10 OS language in English AND make the keyboard respond to its designed (Spanish) keys?

(I am writing this on my desktop which has W7 Ultimate in English installed!)

Thanks in advance for any advice,

A:Problem with setting English language

Yes you can and it is the same as in 7 if I remember correctly.

Search for Language in Control Panel. Click on Options in the English Language.

On Input Method click on Add Input Method and scroll down the list until you find Spanish. Then remove English.

This only affects your keyboard - no other regional or language settings are affected.

For Cortana to work you need your language, region and speech have to be the same - it doesn't care about the keyboard. If your language is US English you'll need to make sure you set your region to US as well. As region affects things like search results and news I leave mine where I am and don't use Cortana but it is up to you - I've just not found a use for it yet.

Try this....

Go Start > Control Panel > Classic View > Regional Settings and Language > you should be able to alter the language to English [Australia: UK: US etc.].

Once you have completed the adjustments, you might have to reboot the computer for them to take effect.

It might be because Microsoft is a US company and the de facto language of Windows is US English.

Not that that solves your problem, but that might be an explanation as to why you can't get rid of it.

If you want everything in English, then you must buy an English version of Windows XP, you cannot change Polish version into English as there are no English components included.
