Preferred Solution: Windows wont load \$Windows-BT\Windows\System32\winload.efi

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map and listings:

1. Type Disk Management in Start Search box.
2. Open Disk Mgmt. window and maximize it.
3. Type Snipping Tool in Start Search box.
4. Open Snipping Tool, choose Rectangular Snip, click New, draw a box around full drive map and all listings.
5, Save Snip, attach using paper clip in Reply Box.

Tell us what is on each partition.

Normally you would assure SysReserved or C is marked Active then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times to fully repair or rewrite boot files. Try that first. But they have be corrupted beyond repair.

Two problems.
#1. I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows7. Can't start windows...keep getting this --"File: \windows\system32\winload.exe Status: 0xc000000f Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt." How do I fix this?
#2 I tried the System Repair disk, and also System Recovery disk. However when I try to change the boot priority order in order to use a system repair or system restore disk, it doesn't work and when I go back to check the order, it is always topped by USB FDD, not even the hard drive.
How do I make the change stick, and what is that missing file? HELP!!!

I've been getting an error message every time I try to upgrade my Win Pro install to Win When I researched the issue Load Windows Missing Winload.exe - Corrupt or Failed to I discovered that somehow my system partition was only MB instead of the usual MB that Windows creates when installing This probably because I cloned the drive from Windows Failed to Load - Winload.exe Corrupt or Missing a TB mechanical to my current GB SSD a year ago In any case I attempted to resize the system partition by using Partition Wizard to first shrink the OS partition then expand the System partition to fill the extra unallocated space Everything went smoothly with the resize but now I can't boot Windows - I just get the error in the title of this thread every time I knew it probably wasn't a good idea to mess around with the beginning section of the OS partition and I'm really kicking myself in the pants right now for not doing a disk backup first like I knew I should have So far I've only tried the bootrec commands and system repair but neither have worked Can anyone provide some additional methods I should try

A:Windows Failed to Load - Winload.exe Corrupt or Missing

I finally got this issue resolved! Not sure what did it other than pure dumb luck. I kept at it with System Repair and the bootrec commands. It was strange that I kept getting different results each time. Sometimes System Repair would crash, sometimes it would say no problems can be resolved, ect. The bootrec commands were the strangest. At the very end when I would run "bootrec /scanos" it said 0 OS detected. For the hell of it I decided to do fixboot, fixmbr and rebuildbcd one more time and it seems to have worked!

My OS is back online and the System partition is a solid 300Mb. Time to do a disk image and then try the Win10 upgrade again!

EDIT: It seems I spoke a little too soon. I can boot in to my OS now and log in, but ONLY when my USB flash drive is connected. It seems that bootrec put the boot configuration on that drive instead of using my System partition on the SSD. When I run bcdedit within windows it says "device partition=I:"

Since I can't run the bootrec commands within Windows, how should I go about changing this? See the attached image for details.

I m posting this in the Vista forum because this has never happened with Windows or XP I bought two exact duplicate models of hard disks I set up Vista Ultimate on one of my systems I used Acronis True Image to clone the operating disk to the factory-new never-used same model disk as a backup drive in the event the first disk failed I put in the clone to be sure it runs but I get the error mentioned in the title of this thread Now if the second disk is supposed to be a clone of the first why does this happen and how can I fix it I m not married to Acronis for this job so I would use any disk cloning tool that makes a sector-for-sector copy I use Norton Ghost for making sector-for-sector raw image forensic copies of PATA drives but these are SATA drives and Ghost simply sits there like Tarbaby and he don t say nuttin to no SATA drive nbsp

A:Windows wont start: \windows\system32\c_1252.nls is missing or corrupt

I just tried to boot up using a windows xp mce 2005 cd, but my version is 2004, and the results were the same as before.

I saw some screen shots of the recovery console online, and it should look like
"C: \WINDOWS>"

however my screen shows
"C:\>"

Everytime I type something here, it just says "There is no floppy disk or cd in the drive."

It doesn't ask me which windows installation I would like to log on to, or ask me for my administrative password.

Does anyone know anything about this, or have any advice at all?
I really dont want to mess up my computer any worse than it already is by changing things I dont understand.

UPDATE:

I got a windows 8.1 disk made and it allowed me yo boot from the CD, but it's SLOOOOW, it takes minutes to load reset or w.e (none of them still work), or open the command prompt.

I ran chkdsk /f /r /x but it didnt help. chkdsk /r ends with:
"A disk read error occurredcc0000185
Insufficient disk space to fix the Usn Journal $J data stream."

Before when I ran it, I'm pretty sure it let me restart and booted into windows, not now.

Next I tried bootrec.
/fixmbr - succesful
/fixboot - succesfull
/rebuildBCD - Total identified Windows installations: 0
/scanOS - Total identified Windows installations: 0

Next bcdedit
Nothing worked "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found."

Next sfc /scannow
"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."
Then sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\Windows
"Windows resources protection didnt find integrity violations"

BCDBoot c:\WindowsFailure when attempting to copy boot files

Next diskpart - but I forgot what I did before that may have worked. All i can remember is I had to select a disk or volume, and do something with it.

Hi,

I am getting this error when I start my laptop.

"Could not load or run C:\Windows\system32\pmnnl.exe specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry"

I am running a Windows Vista Home Premium version. I have a licensed version of Norton Anti Virus running on the system.

I have gone thro the other threads for this and have found the same problems reported by other users and I am guessing this is due to some malware. Is it possible to use the same solutions provided ?

A:Avg Free Edition Scan: Found C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts And C:\windows\system32...

The entries you see below the local host are really BAD sites which are being redirected back to nowhere (your computer), so they can't call out. I don't know what put those entries in, quite possibly AVG or some other application you've used. They're a good thing. But ...In some computers, mine included, if a large hosts file is used, the DNS service has to be disabled. Otherwise the computer can get very, very slow for the internet access.More and better details herehttp://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htmand a quote:Editors Note: in most cases a large HOSTS file (over 135 kb) tends to slow down the machine. This only occurs in W2000/XP/Vista. Windows 98 and ME are not affected. To resolve this issue (manually) open the "Services Editor"Start | Run (type) "services.msc" (no quotes)Scroll down to "DNS Client", Right-click and select: PropertiesClick the drop-down arrow for "Startup type"Select: Manual, or Disabled (recommended) click Apply/Ok and restartrestart = REBOOT is a must. You can also stop and then disable the DNS service from Control Panel.See about the middle of that writeup. If I were you, I'd read the whole article. The thing that puzzles me a bit is that your hosts file isn't all that long and it sure is missing a lot of other very bad things.

A:Installed Windows Service Pack 3 Now Windows won't load past Windows Boot Load Screen

Hi sirdanceal0t,
I had a similar problem when Windows XP SP3 was released it was only designed for Intel processors, so if you have a AMD processor it will cause your system not to load, if you are running a AMD processor if i were you try and get back to the System Restore Point or if that fails reimage your pc and just before installing SP3 looks for the patch/fix for your processor model, then install SP3 and it should all be fine.

On the other hand if you have a Intel processor i woulldn't know what to advise.

Do a hardware/software reset with your BIOS:Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
(If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

After doing those steps, clear your CMOS by entering the BIOS (see your system manual for steps to enter the BIOS), going to the EXIT screen, and loading setup/optimized defaults.

..Update..A computer guy came and looked at my computer. He said I needed a new fan.. so I don't need help with that now. My Sims game also works now.I just need to know if I'm infected.. and if there's something wrong with my Spybot.. and how I could change my hosts back or whatever is wrong with them. Thanks. I have a new problem now though.. I can't watch videos on Mtv.com. When I pause them, they won't load anymore. Only if I play it.. and I don't have a very fast internet so.. it loads slow. So it always stops every 5 seconds. It's very annoying. It did it before.. but then worked sometimes. I thought it might have been the site or maybe a lot of people were watching it, but it hasn't been working at all now. Can you please help me with that too?

Finally, on one of our computers we decided to remove all of Norton to go with another anti-virus; unfortunately, on rebooting we could not. During a repair-install of XP to keep all of our programs using the XP install CD an error came up. As a result of this apparent error we cannot "install" SP2 from CD, nor install any downloaded SP1 updates from Microsoft. We've tried everything we can think of.

Might be a failing Hard drive. Get to your bios and see if there is any diagnostics there to do a hard drive test. On some motherboards its delete on others its F2. If there is no diagnostics on the bios i would make a USB bootable diagnostics and do that.
I just had the same problems and found out the hard way that it was a hard drive.

Hi, I just got a new computer and am already having troubles it does not matter how many ways or times I try to delete it from start up it comes back
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Execute] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Tools\DelFolders.exe
I had XP Pro on an older PC and never had this problem, I chose to install XP rather than Vista because I was informed that it was early days and it a litle too buggy, I am no computer wizz by any means and I find this to be very annoying, any advice given would be followed to the letter, I downloaded the Hijack this in order to generate a boot log but I dont think that this is a virus but having read the "before Posting" so I have not posted my log here.
thanks for any help given..

Hi there, Please help me!

I ran a registry cleaner (not for the first time) and after my PC crashed and came up with the following message :

Windows could not start because the following file was missing or corrupt:

\windows\system32\config\system

I have been looking on the net and seen a work around where you copy over the system file along with some others, from the c:\Windows\repair folder to c:\windows\system32\config\system. The thing is that in my repair folder there is no system file!!
I do not have an XP disc as my PC has a partioned drive and on the second drive is a recovery area, but I do not know how to use it or access it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

Go to this site, and download 'Hijack This!'.

Unzip it, launch Hijack This, then press Scan, and press Save Log

This will generate a text file that will list all running processes, all applications that are loaded automatically when you start Windows, and more.

open that file
Go to Edit | Select all
Now click Edit | copy to copy it

Hello,

When I run the AVG Scan, I get the following result:
1- "C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll", result = Change, status = Changed
2- "C:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe", result = Change, status = Changed

This has made my internet extremely slow and sometimes (more often than usual) my computer freezes or applications take a long time to load.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Goku

A:Avg Scan: "c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll" And "c:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe...

It is normal that AVG shows that files have changed. These changes could be due to windows updates etc. You should only worry if they also show as infected.

A:Windows wont load

Howdy Ravensbane..

Have you tried pressing last known good config (the last time it worked) I knw that is not the exact wording but something like that towards the bottom.
If that does not work you might want to open the case (while unplugged) and look for a small silver battery and remove it for a good 30 seconds then put it back in..This will reset the BIOS (Basic input output) that should cure your woes

The jolt has either damaged the hard drive or corrupted Windows. I hope you have back-ups of your data. It's an all-in-one computer and difficult to work on but you should have little difficulty reaching the hard drive. Maybe you can repair Windows if it's a software problem otherwise you will need to replace the hard drive.

safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt
last known configuration
start windwos normally

when choosing any of the options, i get the windows XP loading screen where the task bar goes left to right and straight after that, i get a blank black screen.

does any one know what the problem could be?

Hw can i resolve this problem?

A:Windows xp wont load up

If you cannot get past this very early part of the Boot process then typically that would mean that the Boot routine does not know where to find Windows.

In simplified terms the Windows XP startup process follows this sequence (please note that this is simpliified)

PHASE 1 : Start > POST Sequence > Partition Table > MBR > Boot Code > ntldr

PHASE 2 : ntldr > boot.ini > ntdetect.com > ntoskrnl.exe > hal.dll > REGISTRY > winlogon.exe > lsass.exe > User Logon

If the sequence gets as far as ntldr and ntldr is not found then a message "NTLDR is missing" will be displayed. If you are not getting that message then the boot sequence is probably not getting as far as ntldr.

If the problem lies with the Partition Table then you should receive the message "Invalid partition table".

Now the only part of the sequence that occurs between the Partition Table and the ntldr is the MBR > Boot Code. Therefore if you are getting neither an "Invalid partion table" nor an "NTLDR is missing" message then the most likely cause is a corrupt MBR and/or Track 0.

If you use imaging software such as Acronis True Image (or similar) then all you need do is restore the MBR and Track 0, reboot and the problem should be resolved.

If you don't have an image of the MBR and Track 0 then get back to the Forum.

Welcome to bc. Windows 7 will do hyper terminal just fine. Sounds like you have a bad hard drive.

Does the ram count happen and can you get into bios setup? It's usually one of the function keys, f10 or f12, I don't know exactly on the eee pc.

If you can and you have a usb drive you can search google for guides on how to put xp or a rescue cd on the drive, boot to it, and correct the drive error.

If it was a "theme" setting program, its probably damaged NTOSKRNL or similar.
Thats fairly serious, and I would suggest booting your PC from the Windows CD, and choosing the Repair option for a start.

A:windows wont load up

For someone as me (and others as well of course) something like installing an operating system is child's play as we've done it dozens of times, but I do understand that it's not that simple for others

I really do encourage people who'd like to try reinstalling an operating system on their own, It's really not dificult once you get the hang of it

If you are not certain of yourself then you can always use a helping hand, you can find several tutorials on the internet which guide you step by step through the installation procedure. Do make sure you have all the drivers of your system ready for when you reinstalled your system, their are standard drivers included in the vista installation, but you better install the drivers that fit your hardware. If you have the CD's containing your drivers, you're good, if you don't you can download them from the website of the hardware's manufacturer. When you download it, make sure you know the type number of your hardware because every piece of hardware has its own drivers.

Another important factor that you have to take into account is your processor. Before installing double check whether your processor is a 32 bits or a 64 bits processor because operating systems come in 2 kinds lately, 32 and 64 bit version. If you install a 32 bit operating system on a 64 bit processor, or vice versa, you won't get optimal results from your processor.

If you are really not certain of yourself, ask around in your vicinity, your friends, your family, ... whether there's someone who IS familiar with reinstalling Windows and ask if they have some spare time for you to guide you during the reinstallation.

I've talked to my boyfriend about your problem, and he quite certain that it's your GUI (graphical user interface) which is messed up and he also says best thing to do is a reinstallation.

He also wants to know whether when you try to boot up your system, whether you hear beeping sounds from your computer and how many beeps.

I'm not a pro at this, but I will try to help

Hi topkartracerFirstly, does the computer reboot when this happens? From what you have described it seems like you are either havign hardware or driver issues. Even possible malware.Try seeing if you can boot into safe mode. Reboot your computer and tap f8 continuously.Let me know if you can successfully boot to safe mode.

but this time when it started to boot , it suddenly stopped saying disk read error.
I went to the store where I bought the computer and they gave me a new hard disk, saying the old one is damaged.
I tried to install windows xp on the new drive but it says "installation failed" (without any special reason given).
I have also noticed that even when i dissabled the usb driver in the bios , it still detect the mass storage harddisk connected (in the screen where you press del for setup menu ).

Welcome Jamestone

See if you can boot into Safe Mode (keep tapping F8 while the laptop turns on, you should get a list of options shown, one is to boot into safe mode).

I'm assuming this is caused by software and not a hardware change, you haven't changed anything have you?

Try this. As it's booting, continuously tap F8. This will (hopefully) take you to a screen where you can choose boot options. Try 'Last known good configuration'.

If that doesn't work, come back.

A:Windows Wont load

What was the last thing you did or what did you do differently the last time you used it. Install any programs, updates etc....Any sign of life at all? Giving us the brand name and model number would be a big help and I should add this has to be hardware so it should be covered by warranty as well.
One easy thing to do is pull power supply out and the battery which is usually released by switches on the laptop underside. Then plug it in again without the battery and try to boot it.

For some reason, Windows XP is not loading. It says Windows did not start succesfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. When I try to start it on SAFE MODE, it says a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to the computer. Unmountable_boot_volume. It also says, techinical information, STOP: 0X000000ED (0X826A9D80,0XC0000006,0X00000000,0X00000000). This is on a blue screen after doing Windows recovery. Please help!

Hi,

DDR2 refers to the RAM. From what you have said it sounds like the RAM has gone faulty. Do you have any other PC's in your house that are simular to yours?

How much RAM do you have in the PC? If you have 2 x Sticks try removing one at a time to try and resolve the problem.

Try booting up in safe mode(f8 key at boot) to see if you can use your main account, if so, backup the data you need right away, then check things like what is starting up with windows and such and update us then.

When you say load screen do you mean the load screen for the disk you have in or does it just keeps going back to the last known configuration and other options screen. My question is have you been into the bios and set it to go to cdrom first.

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Your issue is probably putting a hard drive that has an O.S. on it from another system and trying to boot it. You are probably having driver conflicts.
In order to use that hard drive in the new system you are going to have to fdsik/reformat and install a fresh copy of your O.S.

Sure it will boot from the other machine, it is set to that particular system and its hardware.
I hope this has helped

Start with the sfc /scannow command from an elevated command line in safe mode.

if you still have issues with sfc being unable to repair anything , use

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

and then restart the PC and re-run sfc /scannow again.

Hi SarahMarie,

You can try performing a check disk repair and see if this process resolves your issues. You can perform a check disk repair using a windows xp cd or you can also try performing a check disk repair in safe mode. Is your computer able to get into safe mode at all?

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Las Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (Your most recent settings that worked)

Start Windows Normally

No matter which option I choose, it just comes back to this screen.

Thanks

On that screen where they have safe mode options there is an option to disable auto reboots after an error. Turn that so the machine doesn't restart automatically and get the error message/codes that are displayed.

you might get away with an 'in-place' upgrade (re-installation) but it is more likely that you'll have to re-install the operating system from scratch to avoid any glitches.

simply moving the hard drive into another computer (and your computer is now VERY different) rarely works out.

Hi there, really sounds like your computer is giving you an informational message called a blue screen. If your system isn't powering down then the likeliness of the hard drive being dead is not as much of a possibility but still possible.

There are a couple things that can be wrong that come to mind with this type of machine and the information you've posted (Which is minimal at best).

The machine either has bad memory, a virus or indeed the drive is failing/failed.

hey guys been awhile since i've had a problem, but here it goes. I turned my computer off last night and when i went to turn it on this morning, windows wouldn't load. It went to the screen that says you can start it in safe mode or normal mode or any of the other ones. But when i choose any mode the little white bar at the bottom of the screen loads, but then it freezes. Or if i choose safe mode it floods my screen with a bunch of command lines then freezes. I need a little help here guys because i am baffled. I know this has happened to me before but i do not remember how to fix it.

I do computer work on the side, and I have no copies of any windows CD, I have had a few people ask me to fix their computers because they cannot load into Windows. I am able to run Ubuntu to recover their data, but how to I get their Windows back up and running. Is there like a recovery disk available online or something, I dont know. But 95% of people do not make backup disc or have their CD's. What is my option, without installing a illegil copy.

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Did you replace the CMOS battery? How long does the computer stay on for before locking up?

Do the following: Boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Then type: chkdsk /f and restart the computer.

Let Windows check for a bad hard drive.

After that is done. Download Memtest86+ and use IMGBurn to but it to a CD. Then change the boot order to boot from thr CD and allow MemTest to get 20 passes. That will check for bad RAM. Write down any errors (red) and post back.
