I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

@Lukenj? If you left the printer program / software on the computer during the migration to Windows 10, the Microsoft check service that looks for incompatible programs would likely have just left it alone. The problem is that even if the existing printer program is of a version that should work, the software on the computer gets mangled during the migration process. You need to remove the existing printer program from Programs and Features / Apps and Features and replace it with a freshly downloaded installation package. Dear Daveatthewell,
Troubleshoot this in the windows 7 Laptops.

To reset the printer port, follow these steps: Click the Start menu, and then select Control Panel>Hardware and Sounds>Printers.
Double click the Printers option. The Printers window appears.
Right click your printer, and then select the Properties option. The Properties window appears.
Select the Ports tab, and then check mark the USB option.
Click the OK button to save and exit. (Courtesy Samsung)

Hello All,

This is my first Post on this forum and i would like to ask for help on an irritating issue of a network printer.

I am a system administrator in Thomas Cook Goa location and in one of our branch there is a shared printer on a
particular hostname. Now here's the problem ...

All sharing ralated settings have been done in the Antivirus and firewall to which the printer is connected to.
the other computers can ping this PC, but when i try to type \\follewed by hostname or ip address I get an error message
saying that i do not have permissions to access the location.

The printer sharing pc was on win 7 and the other was on XP so i installed win 7 on the other pc also but still no luck...

Any advice??

Thanx in advance

Hi all,
I used mail merge in Microsoft Word to create several pages of labels. When I try to print using a Hewlitt Packard LaserJet 4Si, one page will print correctly then the printer will stop with an error that I need to load paper. Once this error comes up, I have to completely reset my printer in order to print Anything.

The error also says I must use Manual Feed. But when I load the paper into the manual feed, only half the page will print. The rest looks likes it's running out of toner. Again, I have to reset the printer.

Any ideas on how to get my labels to print correctly?
Thank you much! =)

I have a PC that has to connect to a server through a modem for security reasons.
While it is connected to the modem, a screen needs to be printed.
The printer that is being used is connected to the local network.
While connected to the modem, attempting to print gives the error "The RPC server is unavailable."

Windows XP Professional SP3
Printer server is Windows Server 2008
Modem is old 56k modem connected by serial port (don't think that matters)

What I've tried:
I have tried modifying the routing table to force connections to the subnet that the computer and printer are hosted on.
route -p add MASK METRIC 40 IF 0x2
ip for the PC is, ip for the printer is, IF 0x2 is the integrated NIC
The RPC service is running, and I have also started the RPC locator

Any suggestions what I should do next?

A:Unable to print to network printer while connected to modem

These are correct

ip for the PC is,
ip for the printer is, IF 0x2
but this is not

route -p add MASK
and should not be necessary at all, if the PC gateway is on 10.1.61.x

Instead, get the output of ROUTE PRINT and post that

I run XP Pro on my desktop which is hardwired to my WIFi router. I have a laptop that can make a WiFi connection and use my printer, also hardwired to the desktop.

Whilst I can print as many copies as I wish from my desktop, no matter how many copies one wants from the laptop, it will only ever print one!

Can this be a) explained, and b) overcome?

A:Unable to print multiple copies on shared printer

Is the printer shared on the Desktop? and is Simple File sharing turned on? If so, on the laptop, go to Printers and Faxes, and Delete the printer. Now on the laptop, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the desktop computer where the printer is attached (ex) \\computername and press enter. It now should show the shared printer and any other shared folders on the Desktop. Right click the Shared Printer and press Connect. The shared printer will now be listed on the laptop. Print a multi page document by opening it, and going to File/Print and changing the amount of pages to print.

A:Printer won't print from my laptop

From the Lexmark X8350 support site:

Attention Windows Vista Users

If you have installed your printer on your PC using an original Lexmark Driver CD that came with your product and you are experiencing problems when printing, you may have installed the Windows XP driver.

Follow these steps to resolve:

Disconnect your USB cable from your printer.

Uninstall all Lexmark printer drivers on your PC.

Download the correct Vista driver for your model.

Install the driver on your PC.

Important! Do not reconnect the USB cable until the install software prompts the question of how the printer is connected.

Here is the Windows Vista download link. Select the X8350 download link from the list.

When the next page appears, there'll be tabs for XP and Vista, so make sure that you select the correct tab.

My advice would be to download the driver package for both XP and Vista and then burn them off to a CD-R so you'll have them for future use as needed.

I have long printed from my laptop to my printer - wirelessly. Some time ago, my wireless router went down and I had to reconfigure to print via USB for awhile. Since the wireless has been back up, I can't print from my laptop. My daughter prints wirelessly from her laptop. My husband prints via USB. I've done my best to make sure my settings are right, but nothing works! One thing - when I got the new router, it couldn't handle my network name the way it had been before, so I changed it. Perhaps that messed something up - but I sure don't know how to know, nor how to fix it. Any ideas out there?!

Hey guys, been banging my head on the wall about this issue.

I recently purchased an Epson XP-205 Wi-Fi printer, and I set it up on my network and installed the drivers to my laptop, initially I could print over the network, but since a restart I can't. I have tried an uninstall and reinstall of the printer, but to no avail and if it matters, I'm running W7 64-bit.

I've ensured the printing programs are part of my firewall exclusion rules, and I can access the printers set up page via, also as expected, the printer is "pingable". On top of this my Android tablet is able to send things to the printer, so I'm sure it is an issue with my laptop.

I'm tech minded, so feel free to rabble on, I'll understand.

A:Laptop can't print to wireless printer

I assume that there is now a printer icon in your Notification Area showing the print queue of files you've tried to print. Examine the settings in that to make sure the printer is not in a "use offline" mode.

In Devices and Printers right click on the printer - Printer properties (that's not the Properties choice at the bottom) - General tab - Print Test Page. What happens?

I have never seen that and have no clue what it is talking about, (thank you Bill Gates).
If you look in the printers, the correct printer says ready and there are no documents in the queue.

The printer works fine and the other computers can print to it.

Rebooting the computer and rebooting the router don't help.

My desktop has a USB Wireless dongle to enable connection to my wifes wireless laptop also running Windows XP SP2.

I have set up the file and printer sharing and can access the folders I have permitted access to.

I have enabled the printer sharing.

On the laptop I can add the printer via the network printer option and the laptop can see the desktop printer.

The only problem is when I try to print the printer fails to print anything.

I am able to print from the desktop but that is all.

Has anyone else had this problem?? or can anyone help sole this issue

Printer is HP Inkjet
Laptop is VIAO
OS is Vista
The printer works fine after booting, however the printer does not print though the job show printing and the job cannot be deleted in these conditions:
1- the laptop has gone to sleep and is "revived" and then we try to print something local or from gmail or other online doc
2- the laptop is closed but not turned off and when it is reopened and "revived" - same problem

The only way then to make it print is to reboot the laptop - then and only then the print jobs start.

Any idea?

I have a brand new Dell laptop with Windows Vista. I have an HP printer that worked fine with my old computer. I have downloaded the HP driver for my printer from the official HP website (I've deleted and repeated this process several times). Prints go to the queue but don't print. The scan function works, so the connection is fine.
HP techs tried to troubleshoot but ultimately gave up and blamed Dell.
Dell blamed HP before even trying to help, and recommends that I call their tech support line and pay them to troubleshoot.
Microsoft is currently trying to troubleshoot but has been unable to solve the problem.

This is driving me crazy!!!

There was an old thread with this same concern and I tried all of the suggestions posted there The most frustrating thing about my scenrrio is From XP Printer Vista to Desktop on Can't Print Laptop this freakin thing worked fine till I uninstalled reinstalled my printer on the pc I have a Lexmark x connected via USB to a Desktop running XP My Laptop is running Vista Business and connected to my Desktop via a Netgear wireless router I can access files on the Desktop from my Laptop and access files on my Laptop from Can't Print From Vista Laptop to Printer on XP Desktop my Desktop I can print from my Desktop but cannot print from my Laptop I know that many others have had the same problem and have tried the solutions that solved their problems -- none worked for me Solution - This is how I got my Vista Laptop to Print to a Shared Laser Printer which is connected via USB to my XP Desktop computer On your Vista Laptop Go to Control Panel - Choose Printer - Then Choose Add Printer Choose Add Local Printer Click on Create a New Port the default in the drop down list is Local Port Do Not Can't Print From Vista Laptop to Printer on XP Desktop Change this Click Next You may have to type in Local Port You will then be presented with a list of printer manufacturers Select your vendor and specific printer from the list If your printer is not listed select the closest match My printer is not on the list nor can I find any documentation on the web as to which is the closest match A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name Type in computer name printer name For example My computer's name is Office and the printer's name is Office Printer so I typed in Office Office Printer You can find out the name of your printer by Browsing for available network printers BEFORE you do step number above This is accomplished by doing step number but select Add Network Wireless or Bluetooth Printer Vista will search for available Printer Right down exactly how you have named your XP printer You should now be able to print from you Vista Machine to a XP Printer So this was moot for me to do When I attempt to quot connect quot from the Vista Laptop this is the error message I get I tried dlding Vista drivers to install on the laptop but they turned out to be Vista installation files that obviously installs the whole program on the laptop No point in installing anything Vista-esque to the PC cause that will over ride the operational drivers that I have running now I truly am stumped Thoughts

I want to know if the ability to print from anywhere in the world to a printer. My initial setup i was thinking of was this:

The laptop pulls up the IP address of a wireless print server which is connected to a wireless router (where it gets its internet from). The person using the wireless laptop gets the IP address of the print server, some how configures the computer to print to THAT IP address, and the paper should come out of the printer. Correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

P.S. it would be nice if i could be told how much this will cost.

HP4110 All-in-One / Windows 7 ...

When linked with XP this printer came up with an on-screen box when it ran out of paper:- add paper, then 'Continue' or 'Cancel Print'. Now, on Windows 7, there's nothing. Have tried turning the power off for 30 seconds and all the other 'fixes' mentioned in general shopping around, including checking the paper type, size, etc., but nothing works. The Printer dialogue box just continues to display 'out of paper', despite the fact it's already managed to print out an error test sheet.
Any ideas anyone please?

A:Use my laptop to print from a printer attached to a networked computer?

Here is a wizard way to set up file and printer sharing.

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a Windows PC other than XP or 2k Pro.

Windows XP firewall (if SP2) will be properly configured by the wizard. You must uninstall or properly configure any 3rd party firewalls on each machine. Unique computer names and same workgroup, of course.

The Shared Documents folder is automatically shared. Any other folders (or drives) or printers you want to share, just right click on them and sharing ... . When sharing a printer, accept the offer to load other drivers if your other PCs have different Operating System(s).

When you first go into My Network Places there will be nothing there. The first time you click on 'View Workgroup computers' will probably result in great disappointment. It takes awhile (20 minutes or so) before all the computers in the workgroup get up-to-date and accurate lists of the other computers. Often you can speed up this process via Search for other computers.

When computers show up in My Network Places, double click on one to see its shares. If that includes a printer, you can right click on the printer to connect to it.

I am one of 3 laptops connected to a wireless printer (Brother MFC-9120CN all-in-one). The printer was working fine and now all of a sudden it wont print. The printer icon shows print error. My Laptop is an Asus N10J series with OS - Windows XP home.

My email & internet connection works fine, only printer has stopped printing.

Have checked Windows firewall and it's switched to Off, have set printer to 'share' mode in printer preferences & tried adding new printer on the add tab and still unable to print.

Prior to print problem occurring, I had several auto windows updates auto installing & had a problem with laptop keyboard keys printing numbers instead of letters, which I managed to fix.

Any suggestions on how to fix the printer would be greatly appreciated.

Whenever I print to the shared printer on my Windows 7 desktop, the print job will just sit in the print queue. If I stop and then start the print spooler, the job will print. It happens from an XP laptop. Print jobs sent from the local Windows 7 computer print just fine.
How can i solve this one ? :(

This issue with some particular laptop running windows Xp and windows 7 Home

A:Whenever I print to the shared printer he print job will just sit in the print queue

So, the Windows 7 Desktop has the printer physically attached to it and it's shared?
And the XP laptop is sharing the printer through the network? If I understand you correctly?
If so, on the XP Laptop, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Are there any devices with yellow flags? Or Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? Or any listings for the printer? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Now go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall any drivers or software for the printer. Now,go to Printers and Faxes, and if the printer icons is there, Right click the shared printer icon and Delete it. And Restart the computer. Now when the computer comes back up, go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in the model# for the printer and download the driver for the printer for XP and install it. Now, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the Windows 7 machine (ex) \\ComputerName and press enter. A window should open up with the shared drives on the 7 computer, with the shared printer. Right click the shared printer and choose Connect. This will add the printer to Printers and Faxes again. Right click this printer/Properties and print a Test Page.

Hi, are you using any printer sharing (USB device share) software? This can cause such behaviour. Additionally it could be a USB glitch - have you tried changing the printer to another USB port? If it's a network printer or you are trying to access a printer on another workstation then there would be other steps to take...

Obviously you need a printer that has sufficient consumables on hand, and silly as it sounds, make sure there are no paper jams...

I have an HP C5280 printer running wirelessly via a TP Link wireless print server and D Link Di 624 wireless router. I can print successfully from either my desktop (which is connected direct to the D Link router) or either of my laptops (wireless). However, when I select the double-sided print option I get a print error message after re-inserting the odd number pages to print the other side of the paper and then click 'continue'.

Could I resolve this by connecting the printer both direct to the desktop using USB AND leaving it connected via the wireless TP Link print server? This would enable me to print double-sided from my desktop (as I did before when the printer was only connected via the USB desktop port).

I'm working at an office where when you hit the Print Screen button, it causes a printout in addition to the normal copy to clipboard. I just want to copy to clipboard without wasting toner and paper. It can't be a program on the computer as it's clean with just Windows 8.1

It actually happens on all the machines (whether Windows 7, 8, or 8.1). Is it a program installed on the server? Is it a setting in Windows? How do I stop this behavior?

A:Print Screen button will print to the printer! how to stop

By definition the print screen function only sends the image to the clipboard so if the printer is also involved then something else -- some other software installed on your machine -- is the culprit here.

One way to find out what it is is by unhooking the printer and then watching the screen to see what error messages pop up when trying to use the print screen function.

A:Print Server won't print on new printer

Did you install the drivers for your new printer? (Obvious, sorry, but I have to ask) Best bet would be to uninstall all printers and printer software you have and start over from scratch.

The print server doesn't have to support your printer - all it does is take the data sent by your computer and forward it to the USB port. Your printer however has to support the print server. Some printers require a bidirectional connection with the computer and that cannot work over the network.

Does your print server suppirt several types of connection? It could be any combination of LPR, SMB, JetDirect and any proprietary protocols. Try something else than you are using right now.

Did you check the ports section of the Konica printer? Sometimes people change the port the driver is working on and this will redirect where the print is going to.

I have a HP932C printer that has been working for years. I have an XP desktop PC and a laptop using a wireless netowork. Yesterday, prints from the desktop have the black character very light or unreadable. The color prints fine. Printing using the laptop and the same printer works fine. After the problem started I did update to the current driver from HP on the desktop.
How can the black not work from the desktop but does work from the laptop?

A:HP932c won't print from desktop will print from laptop

The only thing that comes to mind (mine anyway) is that the Print Quality setting (or some other variable setting) is different on the desktop.

So if the cartridge is going low on ink, and the laptop is printing best quality and the desktop is set to Draft quality, that might explain the difference.

Just a shot in the dark!

My Mom Unable printer install old printer, Windo uninstall to drivers, update has an HP laptop She recently purchased a new HP printer and I have been trying for the last days to get it to install connect I've been in touch with Unable to install printer drivers, uninstall old printer, update Windo HP but the links they provide aren't resolving the issues First using the CD that came with the printer hangs up at around - It doesn't not show up as installed I copied the CD to the desktop modified Setup exe in CFFExplorer and Run as Administrator and it appears to completely install however when I go to Device Manager it says no driver is found I sometimes have the option to update and sometimes that seems to work but I can't access it through Add a Printer which has the green bar run across the top then pulsate and freeze Trying to install using the driver I download from HP results in no installing screen appearing but it does hang up in the background and the only way to stop it is to Restart The same thing happens if I try to use HPs Wizard I've installed several HP printers through the years and not had this much trouble That doesn't even include the dozens of times I've had to reinstall my own HP printer because of its contrariness Additionally attempts to uninstall the old printer results in it hanging up freezing soon in to the process whether I try to uninstall from the Start menu file or Uninstall program I'm not even being able to get the Windows Updates to install - that process also just hangs up freezes FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while so there are many updates however when I just choose at a time it still sits at and never moves FYI the printer when connected is with the USB and I've tried all USB ports on this just in case Am still in touch with HP but they are sending me the usual links so I'm hoping perhaps someone here can think of something a little less ordinary Thx

A:Unable to install printer drivers, uninstall old printer, update Windo

Hi columbia93, welcome to 7F!

Printers are touchy animals, when installing any printer you have to follow the install procedures exactly as described by the manufacturer.

This may be the root cause:

FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while

Not that you haven't been able to check it, but there may be an accumulation of problems on your Mom's machine that also are stopping the update process.

I am trying to find one of 7F's tutorials on improving performance of a computer, but it boils down to cleaning out all detritus that a machine can accumulate of a period of time.
I did find this but there is another one: Hard Disk Space - Free Up and Recover The first three options would help

Run Antimalware/virus scans, run a Check Disk then a sfc /scannow then try to uninstall that old printer driver, and if that works shut down the machine, and try to install the printer without the HP disk, when it looks, but asks if you have the disk say no and allow the OS to install what it has.
It is my understanding that HP Printer drivers already come with Windows 7.

But do the cleanup first and see if that helps.

I've recently driver Printer on in Win10: use install to printer is Unable bought a new laptop and have Unable to install printer on Win10: Printer driver is in use Windows on it I can't get my printer a Canon Pixma MG to fully work Initially I just plugged in the printer Windows would automatically install the drivers and it would succesfully print However it wouldn't scan Therefore I picked up the manual and read you should install the software on the cd-rom supplied together with the printer before connecting the printer to the computer So I uninstalled the printer from Devices confirmed the printer is no longer listed under devices and did a reboot with the printer disconnected from the computer and turned off Now I insert the printer's cd-rom and select to install the drivers from the menu that the cd-rom presents This produces the following error message Printer driver is currently in use If you are not using the printer driver it may be used by other users on this computer Exit all applications and printer properties and then try again If you still have a problem restart the computer and then try again I don't know how to make this work In the Task Manager I don't see any applications that I suspect use the printer Also rebooting and immediately starting the cd-rom just produced the same error Could it be that the operating system itself has the printer drivers in use Any idea what to do

A:Unable to install printer on Win10: Printer driver is in use

Forget about the CD disc. It probably does not have Windows 10 driver for the scanner. Head over to Canon web site and search for latest drivers compatible for Windows 10.i_Xp/Vista/W7/W10 Usermessage edited by XpUser

I have an HP PSC 2110v all in one printer that all of the suddent will not print jobs. I do get a print out of the Menu Report but cannot print from Notebook or the c prompt. Everytime I press print, the computer sounds like it's getting ready, but nothing comes out. When I press print several times and open the printer details window, under status, it says "printing" then changes to "deleting print job". What could be going on? Obviously the power is on, and everything seems to be connected to the computer properly. I do have low link, but I have totally ran out of ink in the past and have never come across this problem. Please help me...thanks for your time!!!

If you are using a cd to install from, then I would suggest downloading the driver from HP's website. Click Here for a link. The link is for the PSC 2410, I don't beleive that they have a 2410 SCI.

I have a new Toshiba (intel pentium) laptop with Windows 7 on it. It runs on wireless internet. I can't get either of my two printers (Canon ip1700 and Canon MX300) to print when I try to print from my Toshiba.
My desktop computer is older and has Windows XP, and I can print from both printers using my desktop computer.
What do you think could be the problems with why I can't print with my laptop? Thanks for your help.

A:Printer won't print

You need to go to and download drivers for win 7 (either 32 or 64 bit) depending what you are running.
Then go and edit your system specs under User CP at the top in case we need to follow up or you have another problem.

I have a netgear router from comcast and I have my printer running through it. My wife has a laptop and it uses the same router. Her computer is connected to the internet and prints perfectly. My desktop is connected to the internet with no problem but all of a sudden I can not print. I printed yesterday with no problem. I have restarted everything and I hooked up a new ethernet cable from the router to the printer - no luck. Comcast is less than helpful and wants me to pay for troubleshooting on their router. Any ideas what happened?

I have a Lexmark E312 L Optra printer that was connected via USB to a brand new Compaq Presario running Windows Vista Home Premium. Brand new computer.

We turned off the computer last night due to thunderstorms (we're in Tampa.) Not the printer, though it's connected to a strong surge protector.
The printer worked perfectly well through its' USB connection yesterday.

Then, this morning, there were two problems:
1. First, the printer would only print a test page no matter what we tried to print.
2. Now, the printer doesn't seem to be recognized via USB. No matter what we try to print, it won't. I'm not certain what's going on. It is as if the computer "sees" the printer, but won't communicate with it.

Any suggestions are VERY welcome!

A:Help! Printer won't Print!

The printer could still have been zapped in spite of the surge protector. Surge protectors are good for "normal" spikes, but those caused by lightening are not normal.

Try this.

1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the USB cabe and printer power line.
2.Wait about 1 minute and connect the power suppy then the USB cabe.
3. Turn on the printer.
4. See if you can print something.

Only other thing I can think of would be uninstalling/reinstaling the printer to see if that might help.

Just hooked up my HP 1510 All-in-One Series printer and unable to print from internet and computer. Followed all instructions and it keeps telling me everything is OK when I troubleshoot, sigh!!! Any advice would be appreciated at this point. Thanks... [email addr. removed by mod]

A:Printer won't print!

I removed your email address. Have you really been a member for eleven years and don't yet know that we only help publicly and that posting your address like that is a spam magnet?

You can use the all-in-one to copy, so you know that there is nothing wrong with the printer itself?

Hopefully this is a stupid question and it's easy to answer, but for some reason my printer won't print. It is a "Lexmark Z43". The power light on is constantly blinking and I don't know why, and that may be the problem. And even when I unplug and plug back in the printer, it goes back to blinking and I cannot turn it off.

This may be part of the problem for it not printing. The printer is connected properly and everything, and I've tried every other port, and still, it doesn't do anything. Can anybody please give me a suggestion on what to do to solve this problem? Thanks!

A:My printer won't print!

I've only ever had HPs, but if there are two buttons on your printer, press the one that isn't the power button.

Perhaps you should consult the manual?

It will print if I use F8 and use Command Prompt Only.
It will print using dir >>lpt1 in a Dos Prompt window
It will not Print in MS DOS mode using dir >>lpt1(pc will lock)
I have updated the Bios on Compaq's request. They have been of no help. Kept pawning me off saying its not a problem we would have in our database.

Posting in all caps makes your post more difficult to read.

Have you tried scanning for a virus with recently-updated virus definitions?

Have you tried cleaning the print heads? Check your manual; the procedure is different with all printers.

My HL1440 printer died. With that printer I was able to print from windows XP as well as from Peachtree 10.0 version which is a DOS program. This program requires a parallel cable port
as well as a printer that will emulate HL8PS printer or HP Laserjet I or something similiar.

I called Brother, but they stopped making HL1440. I do have HL2040 with a parallel cable, but
according to Brother, they do not have DOS driver for that printer.

Is it possible to find a printer in the market that will help. I do not want to change my software,
because I cannot find printer with parallel cable and DOS driver.

I will appreciate any help.

Best regards,
Gulab Gidwani

A:Need a printer to print from DOS

You're better off moving to a USB printer as few systems now support Parallel connections.
A USB printer is rather cheap these days and if you move to better OS or Application, then it will still be supported.
Why waste time with 1998 technology?

I have had my printer for about 2 1/2 years and it has been great until about 2 weeks ago. I can make copies but if I try to print from my computer it gets to 55% and then stops and it doesn't print. At the beginning of September it was printing fine, but for the past two weeks I can not get it to print anything. I have tried updating, uninstalling and reinstalling, and restarting the computer, even took it for a long truck ride home to consult with my mom and it still didn't help. Can please help me? I am a college student who has a lot of homework and papers to print and really need my printer to be working.

I have the HP 5550, and I also have a Lexmark printer. The Lexmark prints OK. When I try to make a file print to the HP, it tells me THE FILE DID NOT PRINT, and it put it in a holding file. What have I done so far?

I have disconnected the HP, and removed the HP software that was in the computer. I put
in the CD that came with the printer, and I plug in the computer when told to do so. I go thru the start-up process as requested by the CD, locating this printer at LPT1.
It works mechanically on start up with the print heads moving and returning to the proper place.

I thought the CD might have been corrupted, so I got another, but the same sequence happens again.

Grandma -

When you attempt to print, what is the name of the printer that comes up in the printer dialog box?

Is it Microsoft XPs Document writer?

If so, check in your Devices and Printers app from the start menu or control panel. If you see a green check box next to the XPS printer, than that has been set as your default. Right click the picture of the printer you want to use and select "Set as default printer".
