I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Hp pavilion dv6500 screen blank

was the screen replaced with the correct make and model...?

Did you change the inverter over from the old board or did it come with one, (inverter: a small board usually across the bottom of the screen)

when you fitted the board did you make sure you seated all the conenctions properly..

I am currently working on an HP Pavilion dv6000 series lap top and no CD is being recognized in the CD ROM. I even went into device manager and the CD ROM doesn't show up in the hardware. It pops open when you press the eject button on the outside and the green light turns on when a CD in is the ROM, but other than that it is not working. Any ideas???

Thank you!!

Hi, Your machine is an HP Pavilion dv6565us : Yes, it supports 4GB max:        Up to 4 GB (Up to 1 GB may not be available due to 32-bit operating system resource requirements) Using   667MHz DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm). The last manual on the following link shows you how to add/replace RAM on your machine (from page 5-12): Regards.

Okso, I got this laptop from my girlfriend(which is now my ex-gf)which she had lost down her stairs, only god know how. Anyway, surprisingly, the comp got away with any damage, other than around 14 lost keys and some minor exterior damage, screen is ok too. But it wont boot Windows at all.. It boots with Linux without problems, i am of course using a different HD than the original one. I tried both XP, Vista and 7! None works, i cant find any answer to my specific problem so im turning here! :D Please help me though :)

A:HP Pavilion DV6500 (6610eo)

Specs on the laptop and the HDD being used, and how you're installing Windows (hint - if you can install it, which requires more than one reboot, then I don't understand what not booting would entail).

Please get specific with the details of the machine, how you're installing Windows, and what you've tried to resolve it thus far.

No DMP file included in upload try this method either you renamed *.dmp something else like *.dmp.txt or you didnt run Jgriffs app as admin
If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.

I'm tryin' to re-install the OS using the recovery cds (1 & 2). However, it's not working. I've followed the instructions to the letter. The instructions, on the HP website, state that when the recovery cd #1 is in the drive it will automatically start the re-install process. But, it doesn't happen.1. Insert disc in drive.2. Turn on computer.3. It jumps to the "loading windows files" status bar at the bottom of the screen (black).4. Then it turns windows, nothing is wrong with me, blue.5. Then, a DOS windows opens with "X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" in the title bar. Within the DOS window it says,"SHOW SERVICE MESSAGE IF EXIST...DETERMINING USER PARTITION'S DRIVE LETTER" It never gets any further, no matter how long I wait. The drive light stops blinking.I appreciate any constructive help offered & thanks in advance.

A:HP Pavilion DV6500 Vista will not re-install

They left out a step in the instructions, with the disc in the drive and restart the PC, start tapping F9 key repeatedly when you see the HP logo, this should bring up the advanced boot options page, select your cd/dvd drive and hit enter key several times.

It currently uses Conexant HD audio codecs... but here lately, whenever I record something with Fraps or Hypercam, the audio is bad... it sound garbled, to say the least. A friend I know all the way in Scotland uses Realtek HD codecs, and his Fraps records fine... incredible even.

Should I delete my Conexant audio codecs, and install Realtek codecs? I heard Realtek is better anyhoo, so i'll be upgrading my sound, right? Or do you guys believe that I should just leave it alone.

Thanks for helping me numerous times in the past

Any advice would be appreciated Thanks!

Didn't know if that's info that should also be mentioned.

I would really appreciate your help, since I have exhausted hours searching for a solutions. I have an HP Pavilion dv6500 with Windows Vista installed, it has crashed. I can not get to the system recovery screens you show, my computer automatically goes into the Recovery manager. I am able to get into advanced boot options however there isn't any option to fix computer etc. I run the recovery disk and at the end I get a message that says recovery failed details or retry. I have tried either selection or just hitting x to get out and it just restarts the recovery manager again. Any help would be appreciated, I am not very knowledgeable with computer lingo.

What if repair computer is not an option?

Did you create the recovery disks when you purchased the laptop? If so, use them to recover the system.

Have you replaced the hard disk in this unit from original? i.e. There is no recovery partition now?

Hi I bought HP laptop with the above said model from HP on st of september in sweden but i want to install Orcad v on my laptop but this software is compatible only for upto windows server or previous version of microsoft operating systems so when i want to install windows XP operating system i couldn t able to install since it was saying that it didnt recognize the hard dv6500 pavilion boot operating vista dual lapt a with HP on system installing windows disk and its necessary drivers in hard disk as well since I bought this laptop only to use orcad v version latest version as my primary need when i approached their service point they said it is not possible and you can find it in our website also about non compatibility of the other operating systems even it is from microsoft installing a dual boot windows operating system with vista on HP pavilion dv6500 lapt also but they did not say while i am buying laptop from them about the compatibility of other operating system it is due to faith on HP laptops but now they say that it will not then it is of o use to installing a dual boot windows operating system with vista on HP pavilion dv6500 lapt buy laptop from HP since they are controlling the freedom of choice of choosing operating system to use on HP laptops by the customer It is simply cheating the customer if any body suggests about how to get hardware drivers to install on HP laptop it would be a great help for me thanks and regards vasu nbsp

A:installing a dual boot windows operating system with vista on HP pavilion dv6500 lapt

Try and read this.

It mentions finding the intel SATA driver, putting it on a floppy, and pressing F6 during the WinXP install and loading the SATA drivers.
Then WinXP installer should find the hard drive.

However if you want to keep Vista around, you will have to resize your partition before attempting to install XP.
To do this you would need Partition Magic or GParted.

Then when you do install XP you have no guarantee that you will be able to find drivers for everything. Since HP doesn't seem to want to support XP, you will probably have to try installing drivers from the hardware makers. For example if the motherboard uses an Intel chipset, you will need the reference drivers from intel. I think it uses a GeForce video chipset, so you would need drivers from Nividia. You would also need ethernet drivers from whoever made the network chipset.
Its going to be a bit of searching.

If you can return it, try and find someone still making xp laptops, or at least still offering drivers for the hardware if you choose to install xp.

Hook up the laptop to an external monitor. If that works then the LCD screen has failed, and needs to be replaced. If you get nothing with the monitor, but the computer sounds like it is booting up, then the video chip on the motherboard has failed and you will need to replace the motherboard.

Hello there, Recently, the screen on my 23xi monitor started to go blank after some usage (the time varies).  When this happens, the power light on the right corner of the monitor remains lit, however the power button doesn't do anything when pressed.  I don't think it's my computer putting it to sleep, since I've already checked my power settings for that, as well as the ones on the monitor's OSD.  The only way I can get a video image back is by unplugging and replugging the power connector located on the back.  I've had the monitor for only a year and a half.  Any ideas? Thanks!

Gentlemen I Installing On OS Advice Notebook dv6500 recently bought from a thrift store an HP Pavilion Entertainment Notebook PC Limited Edition model Advice Installing OS On dv6500 Notebook dv The bottom of the service tag has it identified as dv se -- nothing like introducing a bit of confusion to the mix It has a GHz Centrino duo gigs of RAM and a GB HDD with some form of Linux on it Originally it shipped with Windows Vista Premium My questions for you revolve around various options for getting it back with some form of Windows OS I've come up with some options but I don't know which -- if any -- of them are realistic Option This is my preferred option since it's free and I'm a cheapskate Since the computer has a legible product key sticker on the bottom could I install a downloaded copy of Vista that came from Microsoft and use the product key to get it to install and activate properly If the product key is only valid for the HP OEM version of Vista then I guess this option is out and I would need to find an HP OEM disk see option Option Getting a recovery disk that is supposed to be all the original files from HP that were installed on the machine at shipping HP doesn't offer these anymore for this computer but there are sites like Restore Disks which purport to have copies for -- nearly three times the price of what HP would have charged Is this a legit' product Would the OS activate with the product key on the computer like it would with the rescue kits directly from HP Option Buy an OEM copy of Windows This is the most expensive option but Win has extended support until where Vista is only supported for something like another months I haven't investigated this option in any detail so I don't even know whether this computer's hardware will even run under Win and it seems to me that some Windows OS would need to be already installed to be able to run the Win Adviser to let you know this Option Try to install Windows XP I've read posts from people who claim to have successfully installed XP on this class of machine The biggest headache seems to be hunting down XP drivers from the manufacturers of the hardware components The upside of this is cost -- I already have a retail copy of XP that was running on a now retired computer -- the downsides are limited usability no internet possible hardware problems and hassle trying to find drivers I realize that there are illegal options but I'm trying to stay kosher I don't envision needing to store large amounts of files on this machine so the existing HDD might prove servicable cheapskate remember Any constructive comments from those more familiar with these matters than I am will be appreciated I don't want to junk what could be a useful computer Thanks for your interest Grant

A:Advice Installing OS On dv6500 Notebook

You need to have a Vista OEM disk of the same version as the license. If it is Vista Home Premium, that is what you need to have. It will work and we can find you the drivers as they are still posted here. It does not need to be an "HP" version of Vista but it does need to be an OEM copy of Vista. I am not aware of any place right now that you can download an OEM copy of Vista from Microsoft. They used to host such .iso downloads but stopped that maybe 18 months ago.   Windows 7 will work well on it and is a much better option than Vista although there are some publicized tweaks to Vista that can actually make it run almost as well as Windows 7. Vista just had terrible memory management so Windows 7 will run better on Vista-era hardware than 7.  Windows 7 and Windows Vista have a lot in common and generally can use the same drivers.

I have an HP DV6500 with an AMD TL-64 processor and the NVidea GeForce 8400M GS graphics card. It's the rs085av model.

I recently installed Windows 7 Pro 32 bit, and I managed to install all the drivers except for two items. It shows "Coprocessor" and "Unknown Device" as incorrectly installed. I don't know what the Unknown device is, but it might be my cd drive (slimtype DVD A DS8A1P ATA), which also isn't working. Also not working is my ethernet port, which is on the motherboard.

So, if anyone knows what drivers I need to grab to get those to work, or if I need to reinstall the chipset, I would love to know.

I say either DV6500 or DV6000, because my computer says both (the stickers say 6000, the systems stats say 6500 lol)

When you guys bought a HP Pavillion DV6500/6000, it came with a Microsoft Word right? Unfortunately, that Microsoft Word was limited if you don't put in a 25 digit code.

Did that 25 digit code come with the computer when you guys bought it? I looked all over my box, the computer, and I couldn't find it. It's a really great program, and I'd love to keep it, but if I don't input a 25 digit code within 20-some uses, it'll become useless (I can open but I can't edit).

Did HP Pavillion DV6500/6000 laptops come with the Microsoft word's 25 digit activation key? Thanks!

This is a HP G - CL notebook pc he has had it for a little over a year He was on his email today and all of a sudden it went to a black to just giving screen, a but blank wants went screen blank fix screen and froze up He rebooted it and when it restarted it gave us two options to restart normally or to let it fix the problem which was recomended and so we let it fix it It sat for about an hour or more with a black screen while we waited finaly changed to a dark blue then light blue then finally a box came up and wanted us went blank screen, wants to fix but just giving a blank screen to click on went blank screen, wants to fix but just giving a blank screen a opering drive below to fix the problem but there was no operating drive listed in the box below It then said in the bottom to click load if nothing there so we clicked load and it wanted us to insert an installation disk to load the drive and he had never got no instalation disks when he purchased the laptop It took him about min before he could get out of it it was moving very very slow and not wanting to respond It ended up shutting itself off and when it came back on it asked us again which option we wanted we tried the normal hoping it would give us something besides a blank screen it started to come on normally then it jumped back to the first screen to give us the options again it ended up deciding for itself to do the recomended option before we could click on anything and went back to a black screen That is how it sits now we have a white mouse arrow on the screen we can move around it dont act frozen no more but al lit has is a black screen We need this fixed we have things on that laptop business related we have not got put on back ups yet We are using my computer to find a answer because with the black screen we can t do nothing with the laptop THank you nbsp

The easiest fix for your problem is to call HP parts, give them the exact model and serial number of your machine and order a set of recovery discs. A set of recovery discs will bring the machine back to original configuration.

A:Black Screen/Blank screen after screen replacement

Not all laptop screens are the same. It is important to get a "replacement" screen, not a "compatible" one.

On the back of the laptop screen is a product sticker (you can only read this before you install the screen). On that sticker is the manufacturer and model #. You can use that number to find exact replacements.

How did you come to choose the LG screen?

Hey everyone I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while or has been in the past Was upgrading to windows I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process However around when I last looked at it it was just black screen this stayed this way for about - hours I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen Is this a known (no screen just Black Screen to blank) but cursor of Doom Booted login bug or could there be a possible issue The problem seems a bit different Black Screen of Doom but Booted to login screen (no cursor just blank) as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem Also side note I upgraded my pc when windows first publically released but rolled back because I had about min shutdown times So not sure what is Black Screen of Doom but Booted to login screen (no cursor just blank) going on and any info would be greatly appreciated Thanks

A:Black Screen of Doom but Booted to login screen (no cursor just blank)

I never had a problem upgrading like you've experienced but I experiencing Windows 10 upgrading process is the longest time taken ever compared to previous versions. It took me 1 hour+ to finished.

Play around a little bit to get used to it then did a clean install. No problem arise, seems working fine.

The point is, problems always happen after upgrading, to solve it just perform installation from scratch (clean install).

After the Starting Windows screen a blank black screen with a cursor that I can move pops up that lasts a minute (shouldn't happen with SSD, used to be ~10 second boot). Afterwards the login screen will appear as normal and everything works as normal. This doesn't happen when I boot into safe mode.

I attached a list of start up services, installs, and scheduled tasks, along with my latest boot log.

Any suggestions?

Windows Backup was disabled in "Services" for an unknown reason. Also, I was looking for "Backup and Restore" at the top of the list of services instead of Windows Backup at the very bottom of the list. I didn't look in "Linux Backup and Restore", either. Duh. Anyway, good news, easy fix. Done.

"Start > right click "Computer" > select "Manage" > select "Services" > select "Windows Backup" from list and double click it. When the pop up window opens, if the pull down says "This service is disabled" click on the pull down and select Manual. Click "Apply". "OK". Done.

Now, just go to backup and restore in the Maintenance folder on the start menu program list, click it and Backup menu is there ready to go.

I cant get into my desktop. When i start my pc XP loads, and it starts the last known good configuration. I then seen the xp loading screen.

Next i should be able to see the login screen, however this is a blank black screen, the mouse is visible and i can move it around the screen, but i cant see anything to log into the desktop.

I dont know why this has happened, it was working last night. The only thing i can think of was my brother switched the power off as it was shutting down. The shut down had automatic updates running (i think) at the time the power switches were turned off.

How do i solve this so i can see the login screen and get into my pc?

Hope someone can help, cheers.

Boot into Safe Mode Options Screen (the one with Last Known Good Configuration on it) by pressing F8 at bootup and choose

Hopefully this will open System Restore, so restore to before the problem started

A:Windows half installs, blank screen after BIOS screen

When the PC reboots after copying files it should then read from the boot device, it may be possible that the BIOS is set incorrectly with the boot device not being set as the bootable drive.

Go into BIOS and ensure that the first bootable device is the HD you are loading windows onto, also remove any devices attached to the bootable drive such as any slave drives and that the jumper is set to master, not slave or cable select, if the CD rom that you are loading windows from is slaved to the master drive then place it on its own IDE channel and rerun the setup from scratch.

The only other time I have seen this happen is when the drive itself is flaky, that was only once though and I had to replace the drive.

Hello everyone. I'm new the the forums here (as in just registered), but I need some help please. Basically after attempting to open firefox today (as I have probably over 20 times a day for the last year at least), I received a blue screen of death, and now my computer seems to be shot. I know how difficult it is to diagnose something without being able to see it, so I made a short little 4 min video of me trying to turn it on and what it does. Hopefully this has happened to at least someone before.

Blue Screen of Death - YouTube

A:[SOLVED] BSOD help. Blank screen after BIOS pop up and blue screen while trying to re

From the video you provided (which is great, by the way)... your system is failing to POST. Essentially if the system detects that a device or component is failing to provide the accurate information, which ensures that it would then be safe to run, the system will not POST.

From the looks of it, your hard drive or memory appears to be the issue which is the issue in most of the cases like this as you're BSOD'ing right after loading the Windows disc and after it loads the files necessary for the install.

My current advice:

1. Clear / reset the CMOS and try booting up and or loading the disc again.

2. If possible using another system, possibly a laptop... etc, download and run Memtest86+ -

Download Memtest86+ here:

Which should I download?

You can either download the pre-compiled ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).

How Memtest works:

Memtest86 writes a series of test patterns to most memory addresses, reads back the data written, and compares it for errors.

The default pass does 9 different tests, varying in access patterns and test data. A tenth test, bit fade, is selectable from the menu. It writes all memory with zeroes, then sleeps for 90 minutes before checking to see if bits have changed (perhaps because of refresh problems). This is repeated with all ones for a total time of 3 hours per pass.

Many chipsets can report RAM speeds and timings via SPD (Serial Presence Detect) or EPP (Enhanced Performance Profiles), and some even support changing the expected memory speed. If the expected memory speed is overclocked, Memtest86 can test that memory performance is error-free with these faster settings.

Some hardware is able to report the "PAT status" (PAT: enabled or PAT: disabled). This is a reference to Intel Performance acceleration technology; there may be BIOS settings which affect this aspect of memory timing.

This information, if available to the program, can be displayed via a menu option.

Any other questions, they can most likely be answered by reading this great guide here:

3. Connect the hard drive to another system and run chkdsk on it, connect it back after and try again.

4. Contact iBuyPower and let them know your system suddenly out of the blue is experiencing hardware failure and will not POST.

Need help here.

I have a HP laptop DV9543cl with 32bit Vista. Last Thursday (6/3/2010), Vista update icon showed up and asked me to install the update. As always, i did that. Once install was done, it asked for a reboot which i did. It started booting up again and when it finished Windows logo screen, it went blank and no display with all the other lights were in correct status. I waited for a long time before attempting a reboot. Since then i don't see anything on the screen after the initial BIOS screen (Which is also all jumbled up). I tried F8 (BIOS) and F11(Restore) but no screen. Don't know what to do but i am pretty sure that Laptop is working ok just not displaying anything. I am going to try Remote desktop on it now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Compaq Presario C300. Somehow the screen cracked and of course was not under warranty. I purchased a replacement screen online and followed the directions to replace. It was relatively simple, however, now when I boot up the computer, the backlight comes on for the whole screen, but shows up blank. Did I just not fully connect something? Is there something simple I can check before I bring the whole darn thing in for service anyway? This is what I was trying to avoid in the first place. The whole laptop was only 800 and the new replacement screen was $199 (as opposed to the quote for $450 I got to have it replaced).

Anyone have any ideas I can try?

A:Replacing Compaq Presario C300 LCD Screen: blank screen now

You have to make sure you bought right screen for your laptop. Check your connection cable hasn't any damage on it. If it still shows only blank screen, i think not coming enough power for screen (wrong screen).

Yes, you've got a few malware entries in there (a CoolWebSearch hijack, and a couple of trojans), though it's not going to be easy to remedy without seeing the complete HJT log. Can you possibly copy the log to floppy and then post it from the other computer?

What's the Windows OS?
eg. Is it Windows 2000 sp4? Or is it WinXP Pro sp2?

What version of HijackThis is it? v1.99.1 is the latest version.
Is HijackThis.exe running from a permanent folder, and not from within a zip file in a Temp folder?
This is important. Make sure HijackThis.exe is installed in eg.
C:\Program Files\HijackThis
Re: your questions at the end of your post:
Don't worry about WINNT / winnt and System32 / system32
They are both exactly the same (whether smallcase or uppercase or a mixture).
svchost.exe is legitimate and is an integral part of Windows NT/2k/XP (Services Host).
It is normal to have multiple instances of it running.

Anyway, try this for now...
If possible, please download the following apps and transfer them to the infected pc.
CWShredder (free standalone version)
AboutBuster (tutorial)

You will need to unzip to a folder on the good pc,
then open AboutBuster.exe
click the Update button
download the updates
then copy the entire AboutBuster folder over to the infected pc.
Download the attached file.
The zip contains a .bat and a .reg file.
Unzip them and copy the .bat and .reg file over to the infected pc.
Make a copy of them on the desktop and in My Documents.
You could also run them both directly from a floppy.
However, don't run either just yet.
I will tell you what they do and when to use them later in the instructions below.

On the infected pc...

Boot into Safe Mode

Close all windows.

Run HJT scan again

I'm getting a blank screen when my computer boots up. Not even a Bios screen or anything. But, Win 7 seems to boot up fine in the background. I can hear the welcome chime in the background after a little bit.
I was in the process of putting in a new SSD when this happened. Tried to unplug it and restart, but same problem. Now I have everything else unplugged but the graphics card, and the old hdds. Still nothing but blank screen.
I'm wondering if it's the graphics card or the power supply that are spotty. Fan is spinning on the graphics card, but I'm not sure what to make of that by itself.
Not quite sure what to do now....

I have a refurbished, out-of-warranty Gateway Profile 5 desktop. The screen is totally blank. I contacted Gateway. They are pretty confident the built-in display is defective. I was able to attach a second display which would also go blank just after the Windows XP Pro splash screen appeared. Using the 2nd display, I was able to access the bios. When I looked at the display setup, it was set to LCD & CRT. Not thinking, I changed the setting to LCD since I wasn't using a CRT. That disconnected my 2nd display, so I now have two totally blank screens. How can I re-access the 2nd display and then also avoid a blank screen when Windows XP boots up?

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Windows 7 has a very robust System Restore. Have you tried invoking System Restore? You can access System Restore from the Advanced Options menu by pressing F8 during startup, selecting Repair Your Computer from that menu, select the keyboard layout, then choose System Restore from the System Recovery Options screen which appears. Choose a restore point before the issue arose.

If you're able to perform a System Restore, post new logs from DDS as this one shall be closed to place you in the queue.

I was trying to remedy the "plugged in but not charging" problem, clicked on something in the power section in a screen that came up after clicking on the power icon, and the screen went blank. I tried re-starting. I removed the battery and AC and held the power button for 30s. No change. When I power up, everything seems normal until the Lenovo splash screen comes up, the spinny dots start going, then the screen goes blank and stays blank. If I pull the AC, the screen  blinks on for 0.1 second before the machine dies. HELP!

There are at least 45 to 50 updates available for Win7. Please update Windows from Windows Update and see if that fixes your issues.

Once that's done, please resubmit the reports and we'll see what we can extract from them then.

When rebooting my computer, after the windows splash screen the screen just goes blank. A few days ago I put back an old Nvidia Ti4200 card into the machine (which has previously worked fine on it). It booted up with no problems. However, now it just won't boot (it's probably the second time it's had to boot with this card). The only think I can think of is that I tried installing the latest nvidia drivers which crashed (however it had not yet started copying the files).

Any ideas?

EDIT: Nevermind managed to fix it, the VGA drivers were corrupt

I'd say that faulty install was probably to blame. If you haven't already, try going into Safe Mode and doing a system restore (if you're using XP). Otherwise, I'm not sure at the moment.

Our organization requires Laptops to be Encrypted with a PIN #. One of our Laptops is giving me trouble. I have Bitlocker turned on and fully encrypted and have require Startup PIN with TPM in the Require additional authentication at startup in GPEDIT. I also have the Enable use of Bitlocker Authentication Requiring preboot Keyboard input on Slates enabled. When turning on the Laptop Bitlocker comes up with the light blue screen where you enter the PIN but the screen is blank. It doesn't say Bitlocker or have a box to enter the PIN #. Now I can just type the pin # and press enter and it works and loads windows as normal. I obviously can't give this Laptop to a user like this.

Anybody have any suggestions as to a resolution to this issue.
Thank You.

Screen goes blank after the "Windows XP Home Edition" comes on. At first, it looks like a normal boot process. The indicator bar below the logo is moving. But after the screen goes blank, it does not reappear. The hard drive is still running, the audio is still working, but still no screen. Raster is visible, but no text or any other video. Works in safe mode, even tried to restore to a day that is was still working, but still no go. FYI- this a Dell Inspiron 8200. Would appreciate any help or leads before I using the system restore CD.

Probably your resolution is set incorrectly. That's the only thing I can think of.

btw Windows screen after loading screen Blank I did do a search and looked through a ton of the posts but couldnt find this specific problem and in fact I know a Blank screen after Windows loading screen way to fix it when Blank screen after Windows loading screen it happens but I m more concerned with preventing it from happening Heres the setup computers all exactly the same hardware software Dell GX i think thats the Windows XP sp ATI x i think - Regardless of the exact video card it uses the ATI Catalyst control center Ok so i come to a computer - its past the point of screensaver to where windows quot turns off quot the monitor I try and get back in but the screen remains blank and is not responding I ll hold the power button to shut it off restart it It will go through the start up process dell splash bios info etc windows loading screen then BLANK and unresponsive Now after shutting it down again i will be prompted about how i want to start windows since it did not start normally I ll do safe mode and get in just fine The fix is to go to display properties and change the resolution amp restart after that windows starts normally So why is this happening I know its not responding because for one there are no beeps when there should be trying to press random buttons while the station is not logged in - CTRL ALT DELETE to enter password box and pressing the power button does not shut it down as it would the login screen nbsp

If System Restore was enabled, run it from the task manager.
File > new Task > %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe
Download this free utility and boot with it To check the ram ....

When I try to run any full screen application, my screen goes blank. The computer does not freeze, in fact the application keeps running normally; there is just nothing on the screen.
I'm using a notebook with a Radeon 9700 mobile video card. Anyone ever seen a problem like this?

A:Screen goes blank when I run full screen applications

Oh and I ran DXDiag. It worked fine until it got to the full screen test. When it tried that, the same problem happened. Screen went blank and there was nothing I could do. Had to restart the computer
