I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi folks - Please save me from pre-meditated modemicide.

I have just changed ISP from ADSL BT to DSL Virgin.

They've given me a stupid cable modem ( Scientific Atlanta) that is giving me so much grief.

I can connect my laptop via the Ethernet port on the modem (eventually) but when I try to connect the PC via a different cable it comes up with Limited Connectivity .. Grrrrr

So I tried to connect via the USB port and the same problem.

I have tried to change the control panel settings but to no use.

It took me a couple of days to get the laptop to connect via the ethernet cable but I have no idea how I managed to get it sorted!

I ask for your sagely advice

Need some direction here:

I have ME-o.s. on master drive, XP o.s. on slave drive.
Managed to get XP functioning , but having modem problems.
XP did not find modem, however, I was successful installing
it...but, it can't start up. Looking at ME-o.s., I've found that
it also has a WDM-Enumerator listed, and in XP-o.s., I don't see one to select in "add a new device"... (do not have modem- software, but modem functions in "ME" )

...what does one do from here?

Not really. The ADSL router doesn't have the correct WAN interface. You need a standard router with an Ethernet WAN connection.

In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there any way to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901?

Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection. I am using Windows 7.

I have searched high and low for an answer and am at a loss as to how to fix this issue. I have a u300 modem that with smart view or just drivers seems to work fine directly hooked to my computers. However when try to attach to the cradlepoint router it recognizes the modem however it shows it as off line and network miss configured.

Both modem and router have up to date firmware. I have used 3 different ctr500 routers with the same result. And yes it is compatible according to cradlepoint. And yes I have tried to connect another usb device that a friend had and it connected with no problems.

My service provider is melinicom who is a reseller for the sprint network and yes the device is a sprint franklin u300 device

I am trying to install a new ethernet modem/router to replace my speedtouch usb modem given to me by Orange.

However when I power down unplug the old usb modem and plug in the new ethernet modem/router nothing happens. Within network connections I also have the Orange connection which I have also tried doing it on.

Am I being completely stupid here? Can I not use the new modem/router that doesn't belong to Orange?

Do you have a user name/password for that account? You normally have to program the WAN section of the modem/router with that information to get a connection.

I don't know the model or the type. The stuff I put in when installing it in the control panel(it was already physically installed in the computer, but wasn't dialing) is a bunch of guesses.

This is all the info I have about a modem that refuses to work right:

"Port: COM1" - I set it up that way when intalling through the control panel and I have no idea if that's how it should be set up.
"Interrupt: 4
Address: 3F8
UART: NS 16550AN
Standard 56000 bps V90 Modem" - Again, I set the bold part up when installing via the control panel and have no idea if that's set up right.

"Identifier: USRK2_Gen"

I googled the identifier and found that it was a USRobotics modem, but that's all I know about it.

Hey, I am trying to install a USB WWAN modem on my Vista laptop (2.33 ghz, 2 gb ram) and when i follow the instructions on the software provided, it says to insert the usb modem and let windows recognize it and install it, and go from there.

the problem is, once i put in the usb drive, vista recognizes that there is a new device in, but once it tries to install it, it won't recognize any drivers on the disc thats inserted, and doesn't find anything on the rest of the computer.

the modem has been successfully installed on two XP machines, and one mac, so i know that its possible to do, but its not letting me do it on my laptop...

I would say check the mfg website and see if you cant find some updated drivers for it or even check google and see if anyone has "hacked" the XP drivers into working with Vista. I know that Vista's been having lots of issues with past and current third party products and so it could just be that your modem is incompatible with Vista or you just need to look a bit more for newer drivers.

Basically, I want to use software like UltraVNC to be able to control a remote computer with my host computer. Neither computer will have access to the internet and are connected via two external modems. Can anyone give me the step by step procedure for this and how it is done?

You want 2 modems as in a 56k to a 56k?

Easiest way I can think of for something similar would be 2 NICs and a crossover cable to direct connect the two PCs.

A:Connect a Wireless Modem to ADSL modem for Wifi

The "nokia siemens SL2_141" is a modem/wireless router combo; I assume that "A Wireless Modem of MTS" is also a modem/wireless router combo.

If my assumption is correct you can use the Nokia as an ethernet switch and wireless access point ...

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. [You will not need a cross-over cable if one of the "routers" is a computer.] Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wireless routers).

For reference, here's a link to a Typical example config using a Netgear router

So I am updating my churches network and came to a setup I have never seen before No one at my church knows anything about the setup except when they built the addition about years ago they ran quot a bunch of Cat quot They ran - jacks in every room I have a closet full of about cat cables of which only actually have RJ s on them and only of Router Modem Modem, to what....? back to Switch to which actually go to a computer That stuff I was able to figure out What perplexes me is the hardware setup I have seen modem to router to switch This install has a Comcast Modem with a built in port router lines go to separate magic jack pro Modem to Router to Switch back to Modem, what....? jacks One is a straight cable to a wireless linksys router The last is a straight cable to a port switch There is then a crossover cable from the wireless router to the switch as well So on the switch port goes direct to the modem and port is a crossover to the router and back to the same modem I can figure out for the life of me why there is a loop going on here In either case the setup worked So the duplicate line did not have an issue I am so lost nbsp

A:Modem to Router to Switch back to Modem, what....?

I would disconnect the cable going from the switch back to the modem/router combo. You're right. This loop is not proper. Loops should never exist on a switched network. I'm curious as to whether traffic is being forwarded around the network properly or if the switch being used has spanning tree support and might have shut down one of the ports wired up to the upstream network device.

First of all let me start off by saying that my modem is defective and overheats so i lose my dsl sync every hour. Found out it was defective by numerous hours of scouring the forums. Anyways i recently found a router/modem combo and was wondering if i could just use it solely as a modem seeing as that i already have a wireless router.

I have a US Robotics Sportster Voice Modem from '97 and i needed updated drivers for it. So after downloading it from the site, i followed the directions and rebooted but the modem redetects and re-installs itself with the existing driver without asking for the new updated driver. How do i use this thing?

A:modem driver

Try installing the modem manually. Leave the non functioning modem installed, go to the Control Panel>. All New Hardware. Follow the directions but dont let it self detect new hardware. Pick the modem to install, point it to where you saved the downloaded drivers. It should install with the new ones and if it works, you can go back and delete the non functioning one from Control Panel>Modems

I just acquired a machine with an internal 56Kb P&P modem. The system found it and loaded a driver. It is identified as a Conexant SoftK56 PCI Modem(M). The driver is identified the same way (?) It seems to want to work and connect to my ISP - but it dials and dials and dials. In aprox 50 attempts it has connected just once. My external 56 (same machine & phone-line/lead) connects just fine every time. I have experimented with some of the settings (buffer sizes, port speed, etc.) and moved to different PCI slot. Nothing helps. Can someone recommend another driver or provide info on Conexant Semiconductor modems (problems, reliability, etc). Thanks in advance.....................bk

That is not the entire line from the HiJackThis log, is it? There should be some numbers at the begining of the entry, perhaps 04 ? Please post the entire entry.

And just to be clear, are you using this modem to connect to the internet with a dialup connection? Or are you connected on a high speed connection and you must disable the modem in order to be connected? I am a little confused.

If you are using the modem, how is it that it does not work? In other words, do you receive an error message? Does it not dial out? Please describe in more detail exactly what is happening.

Excuse the question if it seems at all DUMB! Though I've been using computers forever I don't know how they work. So, I have a Dell Dimension 8200 that constantly crashes when I'm on the Internet. It crashed yesterday and I had to use the Power button to shut off the computer. Now I can't connect to the internet anymore. I can't even pull up the logon screen! I attempted to jiggle chords and reset my DSL equipment but nothing worked. I then tried reinstalling the software 1st without removing the previous version. When that didn't work I removed the old version OF SBC and attempted to reinstall again. However, the installation process gets locked up and never gets past the point of attempting to connect to the internet. WHAT'S GOING ON?! CAN i FIX IT? Or, just get a new computer?

Anyone know where I can find one. thanx

A:USB cable modem driver Help!!!

what I think you need is a USB network adapter. These are cheap! A network patch cable is even cheaper!
By connecting the router to the PC with a USB cable, the system is asking for a driver for the router, not the cable.
Installing wireless should need only 1 patch cable to connect the PC to the wireless router. Is there an easier way?

I don't see updating the modem drivers speeding up connection, they tend to be more for conflicts with other device drivers. More than likely its a software problem with applications installed on your pc trying to access the web when you logon choking your system and slowing down your connection. Try posting in the network forum those guys might be able to tell you how improve your internet speed by closing start up programs etc.

I am looking for the drivers for a Zoom Internal V90 fax modem. I have looked everywhere, and can't seem to find the right ones. Can someone point me in the direction where I might find them? I have Windows 98 SE. Thanks,

A:Zoom Modem Driver

Weezie, Take a peek through these drivers and see if they work. You will need your modem model number.

Assuming you have a PCI v.90 modem, you could use this link to pick out your model:

So uh I have a motorola surfboard sb modem and I recently got windows bit I've been for modem not driver bit working 64 trying to get the modem to work with an usb cable but the driver apparently doesn't work with bit operating systems I know using an ethernet cable would be a lot easier but I need to use both because I have two computers on my network and in order to play some games like starcraft together with my modem driver not working for 64 bit brother without any extrememe lag I would need the second cable for the second ip address So is there anyway that I would be able to make this work I can't seem to find any driver downloads for bit and all the help threads I've seen were ones where people only needed to use just the ethernet cable Any kind of solution would be helpful like contacting shaw for an new modem buying one myself dunno if thats possible or anything Especially with starcraft coming it would suck if I couldn't play online with my bro

A:modem driver not working for 64 bit

Hook it up by USB to your computer. Then go into the device manager and right click on it. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste the results here. I'll see if I can find something for you.

Hi Dell Dimension Windows XP Home IE Firefox K Dial-up ISP MSN Conexant HSF V K RTAD Speakerphone PCI Modem I am a firm believer in the quot Driver PCI 173.037 56K Modem HCF Conexant If it ain t broke don t fix it quot adage so my question and your answer may very well result with me doing absolutely nothing unless this would be a recommended safe upgrade to my present Modem My Modem is the Conexant HSF V K While perusing the Internet I happened to come across Driver downloads for Conexant Conexant Modem 56K HCF PCI 173.037 Driver Modems like mine Conexant Modem K HCF PCI I won t bother going into the woes of having K Dial-up That being said the main problem that I do have is randomly losing my Internet connection about - times during the day Since I have no forewarning this sometimes results in lost data within a project I might be working on I have contacted my ISP MSN and according to them there is no problem with my connection or any reason they can suggest as the cause and asked me if my Modem was working properly Ok so that leads me to look in that direction and possibly consider adding this Driver But I d like some confirmation or even discouragement from anyone having experience along this line before I do anything that I might later come to regret Thank you Telstar nbsp

Following successful reinstallation of W98SE (finally) I now have the problem of my external modem - a Multitech Systems MT5600ZDXe. I have installed the driver but it is looking for a file - where do I obtain one of those?

A:Modem driver problems

try using the search feature in windows. It's been a long time since i used Win98 but I believe you'll need to check an option for hidden files and folders in the search.

Hi All.
i am very new to this forum and this is my first post.

i have an adsl connection from my local ISP. the problem is recently i bought a vista machine and my modem driver is not working in Vista.

I have tried to download it from the modem's(Aztech) website, but they do not have a driver for vista. Now my only option is change my internet connection with another ISP.

is there any other method to solve this problem?

can i share my internet connection with Vista?

adsl modem is working with XP SP2

thanks in advance

A:modem driver problem

Is it an external modem? If so, im guessing you have it connected through USB.
You can contact your ISP and try asking for a Ethernet moden insted, you dont need any drivers for that method.

looking for a driver for a rockwell pci modem series m1-5614m3 high speed fax modem fcc reg # 409tai-32589-m5-e
thanks for the help

A:rockwell modem driver

Rockwell just makes the chips - they don't make modems... The FCC number isn't working - 409 isn't showing up. The m1-5614 isn't finding me anything either....

Any other numbers or names on there?

Maybe someone else will have better luck with the numbers
