Case fan replacement/repair

Q: Case fan replacement/repair

I've had problems with my PCs fans in the past and I've always had to go to a PC shop to have them replaced when they started acting up. I have heard, however, that the process of replacing the fan is easy and a lot cheaper to just do yourself. The fan that I am having trouble with in this instance is the case fan and not the processor fan. In fact, the hardware check (del at boot-up) shows that the fan in question is not spinning at all even though I am hearing it make some funky noises from time to time Anywho, is this a process that is the same from PC to PC or is there a site I will have to visit to determine the procedure/parts needed for my particular case?

As always, any given help will be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need to replace a 40mm case fan (which was added as an afterthought), but there are brushless, etc.

How long should this type of fan last in daily usage (in addition to other fans)?

I see costs for fans from $2 to $7 on this size fan (does cost have any bearing on how long they'll last)?

This is for my desktop.

Any fan should last several years in normal operation. I would not expect much of a correlation between cost and longevity.

Get a reliable brand--Scythe, Nexus, Noctua, etc.

Fans that small can't move much air without spinning very fast, so you should expect it to make a racket.

Firstly, not sure if this is the right place, but seems to fit to me.

Im looking to replace my current set of [rather noisy] case fans which are a mix of 80mm and 120mm ones.

So far I have come up with two options:

Xilence Red Wing: Computer Supplies and PC Components from Novatech
Enermax Magma: |Specialtech.co.uk

If anyone has experience of either make, Id be happy to hear what you think of them. Noise level is the prime criteria rather than leds etc.

here's a few ''near silent'' chassis fans you may want to look at....
1... ''Noctua NF-s12b flex'' are great fans, 57CFM Low static pressure

2... ''Sharkoon Silent Eagle SE'', 1000RPM and comes with resistor wires to further lower RPM and noise if you wish, excellent performer too.

3...''Noiseblocker NB-BlackSilentFan XL1'', 1000rpm / 41CFM @ 13db....

Computer: HP Pavilion 9900 (Custom)

I noticed my case fan stopped working so I purchased another fan (Aerocool X-Flow) After connecting the fan to the case fan connector I noticed the new fan isn't working either. It's a 3 pin connector, my question is if I only have one case fan connector and it isn't working is there another way to connect the fan? Thanks in advance for any suggestions

*sob* why do all technicians for dell not seem to understand english? I thought they were doing something to bring tech support back to the us.

Ok - you know how the case fan sits in a black tray with a green hood and slides into the slots on the back of the case?

Can a generic fan be attached in there somehow? The current one is fastened into the little tray with these rubber things that don't seem to want to pull off.

Why couldn't they use regular ol' screws?

Why why why why why?!!!

Thanks. lol Back to Amit-but-you-can-call-me-dave....

Recently got a 3500 off of ebay, happy with it as it does the job I want well, however, it looks a bit tatty and has some damage (due to age etc), and I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere to get new replacement housings for the portege 3500 and approximate costs. I've looked around, but can't find anything anywhere.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

A:Portege 3500 replacement housing case

Hi Daniel

Usually all parts can be purchased from the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country. The technicians should be able to order the original parts from the Toshiba head stock.

Here you can find the ASP which is responsible for your country:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/generic_content.jsp?service=EU&ID=ASP_SUPPORT

So just make a call and ask for the assistance.

Good luck

I would suggest doing a search for the bottom case using Lenovo's FRU number.  Page #88 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual shows a FRU of 90202691 for the bottom case which is used on the G500, G505 and G510 models.  Here is a link to the manual for your reference......

What cases do you guys recommend as a replacement (Non-Dell cases)? I can't get my hands on MT or SFF cases

Does anyone know of a generic replacement AC'97 audio cable and front 3.5mm front port replacement kit available? In this particular pc, the audio cable that connects from the audio header on the mobo to the front 3.5mm jack has been damaged badly (it touched a hot soldering gun). I wouldn't mind replacing the front jack anyway since I have to wiggle the plug in it to get any sound. Needless to say, because of the damaged cable, the sound output is scratchy and very weak.

Any sort of generic replacement would do since I don't care about drilling a hole on the front of the case on this pc case if I have to to accomodate a new jack. I've looked for hours but can't find anything.

Anyone here ever repair a crack in a laptop case? I have one on the top outside cover that starts by the hinge and is radiating towards the outer edge. The laptop is only three years old - an Acer Extensa 5620Z. Its a stress crack and you can see it open just slightly when closing the laptop. I've taped it up some - I know it isn't a good fix, but hoping it will help relieve some of the stress until I can find a way to patch it.

A:Repair laptop case

My daughter had a similar crack in an Acer Aspire laptop a few years ago. I used some epoxy glue to attach a thin aluminum sheet over the crack. That lasted about half a year and then another crack formed.

You may be a victim of problem that is common in some Acer laptops. The failure mode of the hinges is to get tighter the more the lid is opened and closed.

I have an HP Pavillion Slimline, model # s3020n, and my problem is that my tower case is rather scratched up.

Most are minor scratches, but one or two is deep enough to be felt.
My question is twofold:

1. Will they be a problem or weaken the case integrity? For now, they just look ugly, but as long as I'm careful to avoid any rough usage or surfaces, will it get any worse or should it become a matter of concern?

2. Given that the case is black metal, my father suggested black shoe polish would cover up most minor scratches, but I was wondering if that was wise. Also, are there any other products or solutions that would be better?

Any help would be appreciated.

My laptop has been with Lenovo for almost a month. There's nothing wrong with the motherboard/machine/screen. Just the hinges. It should take less than 10 minutes to fix it. I contacted the customer service last week and a case manager contacted me. That was 5 days ago. I sent her an email and she has yet to reply to me. I contacted customer service againa and they were no help. They gave me the same info I can get from the repair status page (they made me wait 10 minutes to tell me info that I can read on the repair status page. WTH?).   Just return my laptop. Issue me a replacement with same specs or refund my warranty fee I paid. Because this is 1 BAD service.  There's no professionalism, no sense of accountability.  serial number AB20452746Lenovo Service Order = 7023648811

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270. When I press the power button, the power button light turns amber, I hear some fans spinning, and the CD drive spinning. However, it never gets to the boot screen (or any screen). If I open the case and press the power button, however, the power button turns green and the computer works fine (loads all the way up and functions like normal). If I close the case after it has started, it continues to run fine. I'm guessing / hoping it's not the mother board or power supply that has directly gone bad... but maybe there is a connection or something? that changes from when it's closed to when it's open. I've heard of something like... the motherboard is shorting out by touching the case... but I'm not really sure where to look for that / how. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hello I've been unable to access my custom build computer since around yesterday I chose to restart my computer at around that time just because it was slowing up a little and I usually do that to help I had not installed any updates or new programs since days ago when there had been a few windows updates Upon returning to my computer I noticed that it had been unable to startup and had gone straight into system repair with it with repair Can't loop system - Startup repair restore/repair/commands being 'unable to repair this computer automatically ' I rebooted several times and noticed that it was not a visible BSOD but as soon as the 'starting windows' icon began to appear it went straight into startup repair I tried to boot into safe mode tried to load previous good configuration and all of the other advanced recovery options including system restore image and many command prompts This is what it shows after being unable to repair automatically Problem signature name Startup repair Startup repair loop - Can't repair with system restore/repair/commands offline Problem signature Problem signature Problem signature unknown Problem signature Problem signature Autofailover Problem signature Problem signature Corrupt file then my O S version Locale ID This diagnostic occurs every single time I run the startup repair Also command prompts I have tried using the WindowsRE command prompt and the one found on the 'repair your Startup repair loop - Can't repair with system restore/repair/commands PC' option on the windows installation disk are -All bootrec exe fixmbr rebuildbcd scanOs fixboot to crop up with the message 'completed successfully' and 'installations of windows ' -Chkdsks of my D disk where my files and windows are located now - sfc scannow which also shows no problems either -moving the SAM BOOT Software files using a guide I found on these forums I have sufficient anti-virus protection and must stress I didn't download any new software yesterday however I do frequently run the registry cleaner option of CCleaner if that is of any importance Again all efforts to bypass the load and boot into safe mode or with last good config all just automatically lead me into startup repair with a seemingly infinite loop of 'could not repair this computer automatically' If it must come to it I am willing to do a windows complete reinstall if that is the only way to resolve this but I just wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions of commands for me to try or anything like that I see a lot of people having this 'looping system repair' issue but their's were resolved I am not much of a tech whizz and I just want to know what the issue is if it was by one of my fault's so I don't mess it up again and how to solve it I have never had this issue before it was completely random and I build my PC from scratch in January If you need any more information please let me know Thanks I am running Windows Ultimate x bit and my HDD is connected via SATA GB S Braefost

Now another question comes up regarding modifying the cooling of my case/ computer etc.

I was wanting to carve two 3 1/2" holes in the top of my case, for two 12cm fans. Now I know fully how to do this, however, I was wondering which direction the air flow should go. Should the fans blow into my case? (Like I suspect) Or should I have them blow out?

The orange highlights are the fans I wish to add. Which direction should I have the air flow setup?

A:Case airflow question before modifying case

I would have them sucking air out. Hot air rises, and the side panel fan will hit the VGA's mb, etc and spread out, also they are right next to the PSU. You wont have any really big difference either in or out , but I would have those two pulling the hot air that manages to make it to the top of the case out. and negative pressure tend to run a bit cooler overall.

You might be better off doing a clean install. You won't need to enter the key as its already been associated with your computer.

Backup any files you want to keep first.

I am not certain but it may take the install files from the recovery partition (perhaps someone can confirm this), I know this worked with a recent HP job I did.

Hi, check the following link.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392/en-gb
Boot from the Vista DVD
Follow the link above to reach - Command Prompt.
At Command Prompt - Type.
bootrec.exe
Press Enter.
It will now give you some options.
Type
bootrec /fixmbr
Press Enter.
Let it finish fixing the Master Boot Record.
Type Exit and exit Command Prompt [remove the DVD] and restart you pc.

If the above does not work - use the DVD and back to Command Prompt.
Type

Let it finish fixing the boot sector.
Type Exit and exit Command Prompt [remove the DVD] and restart you pc.

I would try and back up any needed data and files first, before you do the above.

A:Cannot access windows after win repair -- safe mode & repair setup conflicts

First of all you could use any Linux Live-cd program to make a bootable cd from a downloaded iso file and then boot to Linux and then copy and paste whatever files you need to a usb flash drive or external hard drive.
What I would suggest first though is boot to first "r" for Recovery Console and run "chkdsk /r" to repair the hard drive.

Hi all - my laptop refuses to boot and when I start in repair mode I get the BSOD with just the cursor visible and nothing happens If I reboot in safe mode then it hangs at windows system drivers bootdefragdriver sys I have researched and believe this driver is linked to Glarys Utilities but am obviously unable to uninstall the program or driver because I can't boot into Windows I therefore downloaded an ISO file and created a USB boot disk as per one of your tutorials with the intention of rebooting option mode, no boot repair repair BSOD but disk upon UBS created into repair mode but when I boot from the USB BSOD upon repair mode, UBS boot disk created but no repair option and press F there is no repair mode option All it does BSOD upon repair mode, UBS boot disk created but no repair option it try to reinstall windows from scratch which I am reluctant to do Does anybody have any suggestions of how I can either delete the bad driver if that is indeed the problem or how I can still get into repair mode from the USB drive Many thanks

A:BSOD upon repair mode, UBS boot disk created but no repair option

I think if you don't want to reinstall then you could try booting the laptop with a Linux live cd/usb and renaming/deleting bootdefragdriver.sys and seeing if that helps

Hi,

I have a problem with my HP Pavilion MS228UK. When I power it on, it runs Startup Repair and then gives me the mesage 'Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically'. In the details all the tests were completed successfully with error codes '0x0' except the last one which gave 'error code 0x490' with the message 'No OS files found on disc'. I ran the memory diagnostic tool which found no faults. I have tried to boot system recovery using F11 but that is not working either.

All help appreciated
Thanks

Does the BIOS detect the hard drive? Is there a hard drive diagnostic that can be run (there usually is when a memory diagnostic is also included)?

I have a Packard Bell easynote (TM98-GN-030UK), and have had it since Christmas.

On Wednesday, it failed to startup, flashing a quick blue screen and then immediately rebooting. Therefore I cannot get information from the blue screen.
The startup repair option goes to a default blue screen with green nature-y bits. It loads no options, even if I leave it for an hour.

I have tried the system repair disk. It goes to the same background, asks for my language/keyboard settings, and then when I click 'next' again does nothing.

So, I cannot access any kind of repair or restore options as neither does anything beyond show me the default background.
Thanks,
Alsvid

Post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Help Forums so we can check your disk config.

If you can complete collecting the info requested in Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 7 Forums post it up in Crashes forum if this thread is not moved there.

Otherwise work through these same steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start which try everything to repair unstable Win7 including hardware tests if indicated, and if necessary getting a baseline perfect Clean Reinstall.

You also want to do your System repairs only from the WIn7 DVD (provided) or System Repair Disk, not the automatic repair which depends on possibly corrupted files.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
here

Install and run it, look for an entry similar to "WordPerfect". Delete the entry and all should be fine.

Hello. My friend recently encountered the error "Disk read error occurred."

It seems to be because her MBR is damaged, according to other forums I've read, and a partition recovery program that listed her MBR partition as damaged.

When I plug in her drive, the partition that holds her Windows 7-64 OS is absent(the computer hers interacts with is also Win7-64)

Her recovery partition on that drive seems fine, however. Is there any way I can copy that partition from her drive over to a blank drive that I have, and use that to repair her other drive? Or is there a way to recover her damaged drive? I'm not too good with this kind of thing.

If anyone knows the best solution for fixing this without having to wipe the inaccessible main partition, that would help a ton.

A:computer won't start, startup repair can't repair os version mismatch,

Hi and welcome to TSF this is about your error code
Bug Check 0x74: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO
The BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO bug check has a value of 0x00000074. This bug check indicates that there is an error in the registry.

Parameters
The following parameters appear on the blue screen.

Parameter Description
1 Reserved
2 Reserved
3 Reserved
4 The NT status code (if it is available)

Cause
The BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO bug check occurs if the SYSTEM hive is corrupt. However, this corruption is unlikely, because the boot loader, known as NT Loader (NTLDR) in versions of Windows prior to Vista, checks a hive for corruption when it loads the hive.

This bug check can also occur if some critical registry keys and values are missing. Thee keys and values might be missing if a user manually edited the registry.

Resolving the Problem
Try restarting the computer by selecting "last known good configuration" in the boot options.

If the restart does not fix the problem, the registry damage is too extensive. You must reinstall the OS or use the Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) that you previously created by using the Windows Backup tool.

Hello, I recently got hit by an aggressive trojan that started with disabling my sound, and crippling my internet connection to finally causing my windows XP to stop booting correctly. It would just freeze moments after the desktop loaded, becoming completely unresponsive.

I tried to do an OS repair but that too failed. Repair was unusually slow then ground to a halt at the 29 minute mark (Performing Configuration Stage) with some sort of +COM failure (sorry forgot to write down the exact details). Repair setup is not able to go beyond that point, so I restart the process. Same thing happens, repair gets stuck at the same point, and now I can't boot up XP at all because it goes straight into repair.

Is there anything I can do to save this installation? A reformat and reconfiguration of my PC takes days to do and I'm short on time.

A:XP repair has failed and computer is stuck in a reboot-repair loop

I doubt there is anything you can do at this point to avoid a full wipe and reinstall. You can run off a live linux version if you need to get work done before you get around to actually reinstalling XP and configuring your computer, but your XP applications will obviously not run in such a setup.

Hi,

I am unable to start up my laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium). TOSHIBA Satellite C660-1J6
It is stuck in a loop of 'attempting to repair this computer', which is unsuccessful and restarts.
There are no restore points to use.
I have received the BSOD which disappears quickly during startup.
I am able to start up in Safe Mode - however when I get to the login screen, the mouse and keyboard do not work.

I would highly appreciate any help or advice with this.
I am happy to reinstall windows as I have everything backed up. However I am unsure how to do so as I do not have a CD.

Kind regards

A:Startup Repair- windows cannot repair; Stuck in restart loop

Firstly, a Windows 7 install disc is a dvd, not a cd.

You would have to find a working PC to download a Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 Iso File, either 32 or 64 bit, let`s assume you need 64 Bit.

After you have downloaded the iso file you have to burn it to a dvd at no faster then x4 speed. So the PC has to have a dvd burner and you`s need a blank dvd.

Everything you need is in the following links.

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/techno...-download-tool

Free ISO Burner

Clean Install Windows 7

You can also use a usb stick to put the iso file on using Rufus. The usb stick must be at least 4 GB in size.

https://rufus.akeo.ie/

You must also have a readable key on your COA to activate windows after you install it.

You will also have to install at least your network/ethernet drivers to get online. Then get your other drivers, and run Windows Update, which will take a long time, sometimes 24 hours.

Have more questions, just ask

A:Cannot boot windows - Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically

Update
I unplugged two USB cables leaving just the keyboard and mouse an rebooted. Windows starts just fine but then starts to install drivers for three USB devices. Not sure what they are as all I have plugged in are the keyboard and mouse. Any way of finding out what devices Windows installed drivers for?

All of a sudden my computer crashes every time when starting up the computer When it gets to the quot Windows quot screen with the small moving startup. repair on crashes Windows repair 7 restore, Can't install or dots that form Windows 7 crashes on startup. Can't restore, repair or repair install the windows logo it Windows 7 crashes on startup. Can't restore, repair or repair install crashes just as they start their animation I've tried using Startup Repair as well as command line repair possibly the same thing but they are telling me that they aren't finding anything wrong Also reverting to a previous state results in an error and I can't do a system restore because I have no system restore points I was able to backup all of my most important files thanks to Windows 7 crashes on startup. Can't restore, repair or repair install that excellent guide on here which tells you how to use the quot load driver quot window to do it So I'm confident that my hard-drive is still mostly functional since searching through it went fine with no corrupt files or anything noticed At first I thought the problem was something other than my hard-drive installation so I put my hard-drive into another computer which was working fine and experienced the same problem I read about the quot repair install quot option and got really excited that this might fix my problem However I read that you can only do it while logged in which again I cannot do and this was confirmed when I tried to do it anyway This sounds like the perfect option for me but I can't get the computer to let me log in whether in safe mode or not Does anyone have any other ideas about what I can do I'd really like to avoid doing a fresh install of Windows if at all possible I'm sure there has to be some way to fix this since I'm able to access all of my files on the hard-drive Thanks very much for any responses

I took delivery of a new (and expensive!) PC in January but last week it started giving me constant and varied errors.

The isssues range from Blue screen, black screen, failing to load windows, startup repair needed often, system restore needed often, and when it does load windows there are various error messages.
System info:
Intel Core i5 2500K
Win 7 Home Premium 64bit
Original OS installed on the system, an OEM version
PC just a few weeks old

Any help and guidance is much appreciated...

A:BSOD, Startup Repair, System Repair and other errors on nearlly new PC

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

If you have Raid > update its Driver.
Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver verifier

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Special Pool", "Force Pending I/O Requests" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen.
Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly.
The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.
If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation.

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

You could try going into safe mode, hit F8 during boot up.  Not real sure but I would then go to windows update, it may see the bad load.  It is worth a try!

Hi,

My system recently got infected with a virus and i cleaned it using my antivirus software but my command prompt is acting weird.

Example:

I open command prompt and it gets directed to my "c:\documents and settings\admin\> ping 17.120.0.1" when i ping my router from here its able to ping no problem.

Now i type in

"c:\documents and settings\admin\>cd c:\
 c:\>ping 17.120.0.1
 c:\>ping 17.120.0.27
 c:\>
 c:\>cls"

It automatically pings another ip and clears it repeatedly

What should i do and how to replace/repair command prompt without running a OS repair.

OR IS MY COMPUTER STILL INFECTED

As you are at Sevenforums I suppose you're talking about Win 7.
Please give us more info about your hardware (Laptop) as brand, model, amount of memory etc.
Is your windows disk from the laptop manufacture?
Do you have a backup of all your data files?
If you're trying to do a clean install, don't you have a BIOS factory recovery option (beware, it formats your HDD)?

Boot up using the Startup Repair CD or Windows 7 DVD. (not the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disk) If you have a Netbook, you will need a CD/DVD drive.

I'm trying to fix my brother's friend's laptop - my suspicion is he dropped it - the hard disc is almost certainly where the just Sys - Repair repair load tools background Disc not does problem is That said I hooked it up to my desktop and it's quot usable quot in the sense that I Sys Repair Disc does not load repair tools - just background can access the repair tools via my W OEM disc to try and run utilities on it The problem is that I'm probably going to be stuck running CHKDSK and I don't want to tie my main desktop up to do this Now the irregularity is that it took about minutes to finally load through the dialogs and get a CMD open After which it took about minutes for CHKDSK to finally access the failed HDD G in this case The first file segments came back unreadable so it's clearly not in the best way Anyhow I'm trying to use his laptop to do this job so I don't have to tie up my desktop doing it It will boot from the System repair disc but it just boots to the background that blue Windows one with a moving mouse It could just be taking a really long time but I was wondering if anybody could tell me how to get this working or if it's worth my while to wait If not does anybody have any suggestions for how to get the data off the HDD Thanks

Try a linux live cd.

They are often better than MS tools for this kind of thing.

I am in major crisis mode because my laptop is stuck in startup mode and can't repair itself. I've tried a few command tricks but most of them require safe mode, which I can't access at all. Also, many threads have mentioned reinstalling windows 7, which would be fine if my disk drive hadn't burnt out recently. I am terrified of losing all my files so I don't want to toy around with anything. Thoughts?

A:Startup Repair on laptop cannot repair computer automatically.

Welcome DelaneyNicole.

Sounds like a shame that you do not have a backup of your files.

Some things you could try:
> Try accessing windows repair from boot (press F8 and select the recovery option),
> Borrow a disc drive from another system (maybe a friends?),
> Use a bootable USB drive with say some version of Linux on it to access your files.

Do you know what happens to cause this problem?

Regards
Stephen

I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:\CI.dll is corrupt".

I am so worried I won't be able to fix this and will lose everything! Any help is so greatly appreciated!!

A:Startup Repair - windows cannot repair this computer automatically

Reinstall Windows. It's faster and easier. I never do a system repair. Usually installing windows , drivers and most of the useful programs takes about 2 hours and finally You have a new system. Virus scan and system repair takes much longer, and it's not so successful .

Fooling around on my laptop ( Acer Aspire 5920 ) last night, set it down for a few minutes while I went to the kitchen and came back to it frozen.

Had to force it to reboot by holding the power button, and when it rebooted it took me to the 'Startup Repair' screen, and then tells me after a few minutes of looking busy that 'Windows Cannot Repair this computer automatically.' I've made 17 repair attempts so far. Apparently my last successful boot time was in 2008.. which is a lie, aha.

I would very much like to save a few files from the computer if it's going to need a complete format, there's a good couple of years worth of writing and artwork that I'd be heartbroken to lose.

Any help is greatly, greatly appreciated.

I've also run Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool under someone's recommendation but it doesn't seem to have detected any problems.

I've purchased a recovery .iso from neosmart, but it refuses to boot from USB saying 'Disk Error, press any key to restart', and it ignores me trying to tell it to boot from CD. I don't have any recovery software that's been provided with my laptop, it's just disappeared into the ether if I ever had any.

I started my PC yesterday, and it goes straight to startup repair which fails to fix it every time.
It starts up normally with the HP logo but then it says "Windows is loading files" and goes to startup repair.
I don't have the windows 7 CD and I dont have a restore point to go back to... I tried booting windows 7 from a usb stick but it just went to the startup repair again tho (maybe i didnt do it right, used rufus on a windows 7 iso then simply plugged it in on my pc)
Couldn't get to advanced boot options even while mashing the F8 key nonstop since I turned the computer on. The only thing that seems somehow useful is the command prompt, that for some reason using X:\windows\system32> instead of the usual C.
I'm really lost at that point and any help would be great

Try chkdsk c: /r /x (/x forces dismount of the drive).

If the chkdsk scan runs but does not fix the issue, then please go back to the Command Prompt and enter sfc /scannow. Reboot once finished to see if it has fixed your issue.

Assuming that you do not have a Vista DVD

On another computer burn a recovery DVD

Create a Recovery Disc

If you do have a Vista DVD, post.

How it started I had some problems with installing Rollup for Windows XP MC edition and called Microsoft tech support They told me to find my restore DVD from Dell and reinstall windows because the error is most likely caused by a missing corrupt file Then they proceeded to say they ll call me tomorrow at The Problem I started the installation process Everything is fine until it gets to the point where the screen is on installing It gets stuck at precisely the point where complete/restart at won't start repair XP repair & all after attempted won't it says XP won't start at all after attempted repair & repair won't complete/restart quot XP won't start at all after attempted repair & repair won't complete/restart minutes left quot in installation process I note the process at the time is quot installing devices quot I wait about a little under hours and no progress Sometime at around hour after it gets stuck at quot minutes left quot I get a pop-up to insert a quot Creative something quot CD and push OK I assume it s a file in the restoration DVD but it s not after looking through it and I simply hit cancel and it seems that installation proceeds albeit still stuck at quot minutes left quot mark After waiting annoyed at no progress I hard-reset my comp and repeat the process about more times getting the same result stuck at quot minutes left quot I didn t wait hours like the first time Finally after the rd hard reset I get a Windows XP installation screen that says quot restarting installation process quot this happens everytime if I start boot-up from HD instead of CD like the first time then a black screen comes up this is the new result I see my mouse but nothing else Please help me with this I fear the microsoft people will tell me to just reformat and I really want to avoid that because I have a midterm in a few days and important notes and programs I need to use for homework are on the comp P S Everything I have relating to Windows XP Media Center OS is legit and from Dell nbsp

Hello. I am having a continuous issue with my computer. I apologize in advance for being an amateur at computer repair so please bear with me if I need to better understand some terminology.

My computer is continuously crashing. It reboots itself or turns itself off. I don't always see the BSOD when it shows up but I imagine it flickers every time it crashes. One time, I saw it, and it said "BAD POOL CALLER."

Every time it crashes I do the recommended startup repair just to get it to work again. It always tells me that Startup Repair cannot fix this computer and then it reboots and everything works again for awhile. I thought everything was fine and dandy a couple weeks ago and now it is starting all over again. Please help! Thank you

Apparently my computer had double files on the c drive so I deleted ten yesterday, before running a disk clean up. I also deleted several miscellaneous programs (not on C) installed when I bought it. today however it failled to start normally. I've tried what was recommended on system recovery options ( command prompt, window memoery diagnostics) but is hesitant to do a system restore/system image recovery as I don't have a piint in time for it to restore too.It has some really important pictures that I don't want to lose. please help me figure out what is wrong.

A:start up repair failed to automatically repair computer

After "startup repair" you have a choice to click. Something like "view diagnostic details". Click on it. What tests were done and don't have status code 0x0? Give all details please.

You uninstalled programs the way you should?

Created it with no problems, apparently at least. My BIOS is set to boot from CD drive...so why won't my machine boot from the system repair disk? There were no errors when disk was created. My machine just boots to windows.

Anyone else experience this with Win 7 Professional?

Any tips?

A:System Repair Disk not booting into repair options

You can also access the Repair console by booting into the Installer, or using f8 at bootup if you have the 100mb boot/repair partition installed along with Win7.

A:Compaq CQ58 Automatic Repair Couldn't Repair Your PC

Hello,Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. Welcome! I am sorry for the issue you experience. It seems to me that your HDD is failing - in this case you need to purchase new HDD or better SSD and replace the faulty component.  ** If your computer is still under active warranty period - you need to contact HP support for assistance and free replacement.>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html   ** If your computer is not under active warranty period - you need to purchase it on your own. You can buy one from big tech stores in your area or online (2.5 inch SATA HDD) . However, I'd recommend you get SSD instead of HDD as they are more reliable, a lot faster and way better compared to old-fashioned HDD. More reasons you can find here >>http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001396.htmSSD vendors/brands I'd recommend - Samsung, Intel, Toshiba... Here is how to replace the faulty HDD with new HDD or SSD >> https://de.ifixit.com/Guide/Compaq+Presario+CQ58+HDD+Replacement/28934  Once you replace the faulty component, you will need to install fresh copy of the desired operating system.  Usually the computer comes with Windows preinstalled by HP (OEM Windows).  If you have previously created recovery media, you can use them to install back Windows and restore to factory default condition. If you do not have recovery media, you can such from HP (about 30 USD) or from 3rd party vendor reselling HP recovery media. I turned on my computer this morning and it loaded to a blue screen that read "start up repair, Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" it then gives me the option to send to Microsoft so they can create solutions or to exit and the run computer off. I am able to hit esc when the screen pops up and run a hard drive test. The test did not show anything. How do I fix my laptop?

A:Start up repair, Windows cannot repair this computer automat...

Cgadrim Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! If the problem is only corrupted boot files, it might be repairable. You will need access to a working PC in order to create the media needed to repair your PC boot loader. You will need to create something known as a Win7 Repair CD.  This will repair the boot loader files, and if that is the problem, your PC will boot OK after that. This can be obtained (for a fee) from this link:  http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windows-7-system-repair-discs/When you download this file, it will be an ISO file.To make a bootable CD from it, you will need to download and install ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/Once you have that installed, run it, select the option "Write image file to disc" and select the ISO file you downloaded, and point it to a blank CD.Once you have that, run it, in the Device entry, use the pulldown to select the USB stick.  Down near the bottom right, where is says "Create a bootable disk using", select the ISO file you downloaded.-------------------------------------Boot from the media you created, and follow the directions in this link: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html Yeah, I know that says Win7 but that and Vista have the same boot loader files. You will probably have to run Startup Repair three times for it to fix all the boot loader problems. When done, your PC should boot OK.Good Luck

I have read other threads with this happening and nothing has worked for me. I can boot in safe mode, with networking and with command prompt. Chkdsk /r or /f does not work, it freezes half way through the process and does not proceed. Same for sfc /scannow. I have a flash drive and was able to download all necessary drivers from acer and install them but it still will not boot. I have tried system restore and it still will not boot. It was a 2nd hand PC and I do not have a disk to reload OS. Please help, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi I cannot Repair automatically Startup repair computer this moved my computer from a desk to Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically a different position all went smoothly and gently however when I restarted it the mouse didn't work and was accompanied by a 'USB device has malfunctioned' error message I put the mouse into a USB on the front instead and it worked I then found the keyboard wasn't responding either so moved that to the front USBs Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically as well - both now worked The computer was unresponsive so I switched it off but when it started up it went to the BSOD which flashed up way too fast to read before being replaced by a Windows Error Recovery which gives the options of Launch Startup Repair or Start Normally I went with Launch Startup Repair This tells me it can't repair it automatically and gives the details of The Windows Repair Problem SignatureProblem Event Name StartupRepairOfflineProblem Signature Problem Signature Problem Signature UnknownProblem Signature Problem Signature AutoFailover Problem Signature Problem Signature BadDriverOS Version Locale ID What I've tried so far Disabled autorestart to see the BSOD just says runs Chkdsk Starting in Safe mode - goes straight to BSOD Run chkdsk from the command prompt It started in X so I changed to C which is my bootable - 'Windows has checked the file system and found no problems' I then changed back to X but 'Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected' I've seen other threads that have managed to recover from this type of error eventually but is it less painful to just reinstall windows There's no data on C that I'm worried about - it's a GB SSD and all my important stuff is on other drives If reinstalling is the simplest way how do I go about it I have the product key probably or could upgrade to Windows Many thanks

A:Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically

Hello, and Welcome

Have you tried doing a System Restore using your Windows 7 install disk?

Good afternoon.

My system died and a repair shop said the mobo was dead. I purchased a new barebones kit. I am using the video card and hard drive from the old PC in the new kit. Ram, mobo, and CPU are new. I hooked it all up and it would not boot. It asked me to do a system repair. Unfortunately when I got this I lost the ability to use my mouse and keyboard. After some searching I found a setting in BIOS that I enabled to allow the computer to recognize legacy keyboards and mice. I thought I was brilliant and I would be up and running soon. After 3 attempts at repair it now says it can't do it and asks me to send the info to Microsoft. I have tried system restore with all the dates available but upon reboot it kicks me back to the recovery option again. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
